Pairing: Aemond and the privy, I guess?
Warnings: This is a crack fic. The request is all the warning you need.

Author's note: This is written as a joke between a mutual and I. If you're easily offended I implore you to employ the liberal use of "don't like, don't read". Community labels are for cops.
Aemond strives for perfection in all things. Growing up, he is teased mercilessly by his brother Aegon and his nephews, Jace and Luke. They perceive him as weak and pathetic, a Targaryen without a dragon. Truthfully, a more shameful existence does not exist for those of Valyrian ancestry; born with the blood to ride a dragon, yet unable to claim one.
When Aemond becomes the rider of Vhagar, the greatest dragon in all of Westeros, he makes a point to ensure it is an accolade he is worthy of. He studies history and philosophy to keep his mind sharp, trains with the sword to mold himself into a fearsome warrior and works hard to ensure he is viewed as nothing less than perfect.
This extends as far as his habits in the privy.
“What do you mean you don’t shit? Everyone does! I do it all the time!” Aegon says with heated exasperation.
“Not me,” Aemond says simply. “I am above such things. That is concentrated evil that comes out of the back of you.”
Maintaining a flawless facade requires diligence and discipline. Through trial and error, Aemond has managed to uphold his stoic reputation as a man with no taste for depravity for almost a decade.
There is a minor hiccup on his thirteenth name day when Aegon takes him to a pleasure house on the Street of Silk. The nerves that flutter in his stomach cause him to depart before he engages with any of the women that have been offered to him—not before he leaves a dirty protest on the floor, however, an offense for which Aegon takes the blame. His brother has to pay a fine of a golden dragon for the cleaning costs.
When Aegon questions him about it, Aemond simply shrugs and says, “I am above such things.”
Aemond awakens each morning in the space between the hour of the bat and the rooster, when the Keep is still quiet. As requested, the servants have left him a basin of water and a cloth, as they do every day. They know better than to ask why. Aemond carries it with great care to the privy and sets it on the floor, seating himself on the privy to move his bowels.
As he sits and strains, he ponders on the last time his Uncle Daemon had visited King’s Landing. He’d spent an age using the facilities, coming out afterwards with a smile that was almost proud upon his face, clapping Ser Criston Cole upon the shoulder and announcing, “I’d give that a moment if I were you, Ser Crispin. I’ve made quite the stench.”
He wishes he could shit so brazenly; Daemon is an accomplished soldier, an infamous dragon rider and shameless in his privy habits. Aemond both envies and admires him, but he is too deep into his ruse of not having normal bodily functions to backtrack now. Later that afternoon, Daemon had sliced Vaemond Velaryon’s head in half. Aemond is unsure of which act he is more impressed by; the thought of both makes his cock stir in a manner which disturbs and excites him.
Having had full elimination, Aemond sets about ensuring he is perfectly clean, removing all traces of his defecation from his person using the basin of water and cloth that he has brought in with him.
It is a task that is tricky to manage with just one eye. Over the years, there have been incidents where he has accidently daubed the wall with feces, to be later discovered by furious maidservants who have the unfortunate task of cleaning it off. Thankfully, his mother automatically places the blame on Aegon and he goes free without suspicion or a scolding.
He is better practiced now, however, and leaves no trace of his misgivings behind. Cleanliness is next to godliness, his mother once told him; he sends up a prayer to each of the Seven as he dabs at his soiled ring of muscle. It passes the time and helps occupy his mind from the humiliation of what he is having to endure.
On this particular morning, Aegon throws open the privy door as Aemond squats over the basin of water, his eyes going wide first with shock then delight as he takes in the sight before him.
Aemond freezes, mortification shooting hotly through his body from head to toe. Aegon reeks of wine; he must have decided to stumble back to the Keep, instead of sleeping it off in the bed of whichever whore he’d taken for the evening.
“I knew it!” Aegon slurs with a grin. “That is concentrated evil coming out the back of you! Just wait until Jace and Luke hear about this!”
He staggers away, his laugh maniacal as Aemond shakes with rage and embarrassment, hurriedly pulling his breeches back up.
Aegon says nothing further on the matter as the days pass, and Aemond assumes he must have been too far into his cups to remember. He breathes a sigh of relief. His reputation remains untarnished.
That is, until he flies to Storm’s End to take one of Lord Borros Baratheon’s daughters as his wife.
Luke arrives as they are getting acquainted, and Aemond wastes no time in ensuring he feels unwelcome. “Look at this sad creature, my Lord,” he says smugly. “Little Lucerys Strong. You are wet, bastard. Is it raining, or did you piss yourself in fear?”
Luke smirks and quips back. “Was your coat tarnished brown when you put it on, or did it get in the way while you washed your arse in the privy?”
Aemond flies into a rage. It is that day that Luke and his dragon, Arrax, meet their end at the jaws of Vhagar. To anyone that asks, it is a terrible accident, but Aemond knows the truth. So does Aegon. But his brother never says a word. And so, the One-Eyed Prince keeps his brown eye clean in private, and the matter is never spoken of again.
The battle between factions of House Targaryen indeed began over a throne, but not one made of swords as the history books would have people believe.

EP Review: Bladee - RIP Bladee (2015)
I'm going to assume everyone who follows me knows who Bladee is because he's insanely popular, but I don't think anyone who doesn't actively listen to a lot of his music will know this EP, as I barely even hear it talked about within the draingang fan community. However, despite it being pretty underrated, I think it's easily one of Bladee's best (as much as there can be a "best" in a discography as consistently amazing as Bladee's) and I want to talk about why I think that. Let's get into it :)
So the essence of this EP is essentially that it's Bladee rapping over oldschool Chicago drill beats, something he's done occasionally throughout his career, but never to the extent he did on this. This is actually why the first track, 7-Eleven is my least favorite. It's not even on a drill beat, it doesn't go with anything else on the EP. The hook is weak, there aren't any notable verses, and I don't really care for the beat. I think this track should've been cut or replaced by something else. It would make more sense and be more satisfying as a loose single, instead of setting a completely wrong tone for this release.
However, the 2nd song on the EP more than makes up for 7-Eleven's weakness. Butterfly is one of my favorite songs of all time, and I consider it to be completely flawless. Bladee's voice is mixed really well with a super bassy, but still kind of understated beat. He sounds like a fuckinn robotic angel or some shit, with the ethereal reverb, delay, and flanger(? might be chorus I'm not sure) effects, as well as some super snappy autotune. The hook on this track is so fucking good it gets stuck in my head for actual days every time i listen to it, and Thaiboy's feature is one of his stronger verses ever in my opinion. This is a GOD tier Bladee track that is criminally underrated.
The next track, MJ, continues the trend from Butterfly. Goddamn, this beat is fucking amazing, and Bladee's kind of minimalist vocal performance goes so well with the super busy, high energy beat. I will say, as much as I love Yung Lean I kind of wish both songs with him on them had been Bladee solos, as I think he kind of ruins the vibe a little bit with how much he switches up the flow from Bladee. The last 3 tracks all kind of have this vibe where Bladee is doing exactly as much as he should be, but Leandoer sounds kind of extra in my opinion, with a more aggressive, almost lyrical flow. I will say, I prefer his verse on this song over his verse on 50Sac.
On the topic of features, Pyscho, the 4th song on this EP, has one of the strongest in any draingang song ever. Bladee keeps to catchy flows, and lets the beat kind of carry the energy of the track (in a good way), and DAMN i get HYPE every single time i hear Adamn Killa start doing adlibs on the 2nd chorus. I also love the way the beat kind of switches up when Bladee says "And I'm wearin Dulce it's disgusting", just a minor beat feature that goes insane. I think Adamn matches the energy Bladee brings to the track well, while also having his own vibe. His flow reminds me a bit of Lil Reese on this song too (might be a stretch but idk I just hear it). This is definitely another highlight on this EP for me for sure.
The final track is honestly the last one to click for me. 50SACINMYSOCIDGAF takes the kinda minimal-lyric thing to an extreme, with Bladee only repeating "50 sack in my sock ion give a fuck" for the entire chorus, but it clicked for me and it goes INSANE now, especially when he goes up an octave for the 2nd half of the chorus. I also really really like Bladee's verse, it sounds kind of shy if that makes sense, a little sadder and more chill than the rest of the EP (except 7-Eleven) and it creates a great contrast with the high energy drill beat. However, I really don't care for Yung Lean's verse on this one, as he kind of disrupts the vibe in my opinion. I still like it, and I think Lean's verses on this EP are pretty good, I just think the tracks would be better with another Bladee verse instead. I actually have the same feeling about Bones' verse on Shadowface off of Gluee, and I love Bones just as much as I love Yung Lean, if not more.
Overall, this is one of my favorite ever releases from Bladee, and I think it's A-tier (only held back by my above complaints) and would be hall-of-fame level if the rest of Bladee's discography wasn't so strong that it overshadows it. The production is all pretty much fucking perfect (as it almost always is for draingang/sadboys shit) and it has some of Bladee's catchiest hooks and best verses.
9.5/10 (if u ignore 7-Eleven, which I do)

One thing that worries me a lot as season 3 is finally dropping, is the consequences of the community's expectations.
This season has been hyped SO MUCH for so long, I feel like any little flaw or weakness is going to be trashed on mercilessly. I feared people will get so easily underwhelmed because of all the hopes we have and how epic and grand it was sold to be. Because of that, every single beat that doesn't quite hit as expected will automatically be considered ''bad''.
I already see people being disappointed and perplex and I just want to say, give it time. It's only the first episode and this season has so many plot points to install, obviously the first one is going to be a little confusing or messy. I also think, as silly as it might sound, that we just need to get used to the show again. After nearly three years without it, it's normal that it doesn't feel quite as natural to be back as it used to be. For many of us (me included), it doesn't even feel real yet.
Basically, be patient. Allow time for the dust to settle and return with a calmer eye. No show is perfect, this one definitely isn't, but it doesn't have to be flawless and insane all the time to remain great.

I’m here to express my interest in a deep dive! Since I’m not on TikTok, I’m always fascinated by what’s going on there. I also admit that I’m skeptical of the (for-profit) writing advice industry in general, but I don’t really have a great sense of the scope of it.
Hi! Thank you so much for the ask. Since I've been doing research on mainly pre-1800s styles so far, I don't have as much information as I'd like on this in terms of real citations. Though I do promise to update this post with more information through reblogs as time goes on (to fulfill the 'deep' part of the 'deep-dive')!
This will mainly be about my observations on this new attitude to writing I am seeing on tiktok, and through other people I've interacted with. It will be focusing on ideas, 'rules', and premises that I'm seeing occur, with my qualifications to write this being that I've been a proof reader, mainly for younger or newbie writers, for a few years now, study literature and linguistics, and generally find it a lot of fun to look at trends in writing and grammar over time.
Attitudes to Writing (as a whole)
Among the younger generations, I'm seeing the concept of a 'writer' being associated, in some subcultures, as being kind of cringe. And I think that's sad, honestly. I see a lot less readers about, too. Perhaps that's why.
I think that cringe culture has definitely done its damage in dissuading young writers and new writers alike. The demonisation of fanfiction and the mockery of anyone who's just trying things out is something I see everywhere. Personally, I see things such as fanfiction and the popularity of fanfiction among young people as great in terms of fostering new writers and encouraging the growth of new talent. Shaming people for experimentation, when it comes to art, will never be helpful. And yes, writing is an art!
Mocking artistic experimentation, however, seems to be something tiktok is very good at. Whether it be a 13 year old writing their first fanfiction or piece of poetry, or a seasoned professional with three degrees and a bestseller, the writing produced will not be perfect. Because writing is an art, and perfect doesn't exist.
This, actually, leads me into my next point.
Attitudes to Writing (in terms of learning)
This section will mainly be me talking from my experience of those who I have proof read for. Though I won't be naming any names (obviously).
As per my last point, I'm seeing a growing sense of a writing perfection, specifically in the younger writing community. In tandem to that, a sort of narcissism in terms of viewing whatever you've written as perfect, and not being open to the fact that it's genuinely impossible.
I've seen people get angry and defensive over corrections or recommendations for improvements, even if they've asked for them, and people request that I don't point out certain mistakes. Then whats the point? I hear you ask. The answer is likely either a certain shame in not being perfect, or a genuine view that whatever they've written must be flawless.
I understand being nervous. I understand confidence, and encourage it. But if someone refuses to acknowledge that writing is subjective, and that if you ask for criticism you will inevitably receive it, that someone is inevitably incompatible with writing. They will not improve, and that will stagnate them drastically. Those who have asked me honestly for criticism and have been glad to receive it were the ones whom I gave the least recommendations and corrections.
I note this here because it's something I'm seeing a lot among the younger people I'm proofreading for (below twenty). I feel like this goes hand in hand with the mockery of experimentation and imperfection I'm seeing on all sides of the art world online. Either that, or my before-mentioned observation that the average person doesn't seem to read that much; maybe people just think they're the best because they haven't read much else? Who knows. This is all speculation.
I'll also note the education system (in my experience) and it's approach to fiction writing. In my case, I found that it encouraged people to cater to mark schemes rather than quality; I can often see if someone is in high school doing creative writing, since there's often empty adverbs everywhere and a useless metaphor every second sentence. Not that there's anything wrong with adverbs or metaphors though— I'll get to that later.
Moreover, I sometimes see the idea that creativity can be taught. Personally, I disagree with that. Creativity, in my view, can't be taught—execution is what is taught. And that brings me onto my final point
Attitudes to Writing (execution)
Writing, again, is an art. There is very few ways you can write 'wrong'. To me, if it conveys what you want it to convey and is engaging, you've done well.
What I'm seeing, specifically through some tiktoks and some advice being thrown around online, is the rise of this nouveau-prescriptivism. As is with a decent amount of terms in this blog, don't Google that because I pulled it out of my ass.
Prescriptivism is real, however, and has been for hundreds of years. It refers to the idea that rules of how language should be written and spoken should be prescribed and adhered to; this idea has often been the basis for disagreements concerning AAVE, slang, and neopronouns (but that's for other asks or posts, if you want).
What I'd call this 'nouveau-prescriptivism' is the rise in unnecessary corrections and nonsense recommendations: make all your sentences short, never use adverbs, only use 'said', or never use 'said', and keep things simple at all costs. Oh, and don't forget the 'never start a sentence with a conjunction'—I've broken that rule quite a few times in this post alone. And I do it out of spite.
Beyond seeing these ideas and recommendations in advice etc online, I've also seen it through the recommendations of grammar bots and editor programs. For example, one I found being recommended on tiktok today: Hemingway.
Hemingway is an editor programme that seems to check for all the things I've seen bashed to all hell in some writing circles online. Adverbs, passive voice, complex sentences, you name it. It looks for those, marks your sentences if they are 'hard to read' or 'very hard to read', and rates your work according to readability so you can improve it.
But these sentences they flag up as hard to read are only hard to read to people who likely wouldn't get far in a book anyway. These sentences aren't incorrect, and they mostly don't need improvement. Moreover, the quality of your writing is NOT determined by how easy it is to read. If it was, those baby books with the pictures in would be top literature. All the time on some areas of the online writing world (particularly among the 'aspiring' writers), I see this view that complexity and high levels of detail are bad. I highly disagree. Sure, overdescribing can be an issue, but it has it's place. Adverbs and the passive voice also have their places in writing, and no AI or programme can determine where.

If these novels were so terrible, they wouldn't have had such a literary impact on the world. Complexity is not bad. As with everything in writing, its use is dependent on how it is utilised. Know the rules well and you'll know how to break them—I would say, if this was a rule to begin with.
I think the promotion of programmes such as these show what I'm seeing as a rise in this view that writing has to be simple and uber-understandable in order to be good. Sure, good writing is understandable, otherwise nobody would understand it enough to see it as good. But cutting out descriptions and complexity will just hinder the creative output of the writer. The less rules, the better. That's what I think.

^ Another moment of great characterization in this episode (for both Rand and Eggy). Egwene has to make a decision and we as the audience already know which one that she truly wants to make, and which one Rand wants her to make. The depth of their relationship makes this all the more dire.

^ A lot of people cite this right here as Rand showing acceptance of Egwene’s decision to become the Wisdom’s apprentice, thus reducing the final act of this season. I disagree. I think he says this to her now for her sake, but doesn’t truly believe it for himself until the critical moment in the final episode. There’s a stark difference between simply saying that you “accept” her decision (and being upset about it deep down), and truly wanting her to live the life that she wants for herself.

Yeah, Carver definitely gets more development than Bethany does, though I usually keep this to myself, especially on this site lest I upset someone who thinks she's flawless and can do no wrong. It certainly seems suspect that mages who go against the Chantry get such a raw deal and the ones who embrace it are rewarded by the narrative, go figure. It's funny how Anders destroying a Chantry makes him irredeemable and people wring their hands but if Vivienne destroys a building? Crickets.
Dude I have complained about this exact thing!!! Especially within this fandom - there are countless people on this site who scream abuse at Anders as a character, only to turn around and call Vivienne a girlboss. You really don't get to have it both ways. Though I also emphasize that they are not the same. Anders attacks a system of power and oppression in order to incite a revolution in an effort to protect a marginalized group of people, while Vivienne attacks a marginalized community in order to uphold the system of power and oppression of which she has made herself a part. (Though I am able to acknowledge that she did so in order to preserve herself and give herself some power. I just don't like who she became.)
As for Bethany and Carver, I love complexities in characters and narratives, so I love that Bethany has this huge flaw of accepting Meredith's actions and denying herself basic rights, and I love how Carver, who is so stuffed full of flaws, proves himself to be a great man once he finally comes into his own, so great that he will humble himself, apologize, and accept your leadership at the end in order to face down Meredith, whom he absolutely perceives as a threat.
I also will admit that I love how the narrative rewards those who side with the Chantry and punishes those who don't - because, in the world of Thedas, that's exactly how things would go. 'History is written by the victors' and all that. The world of Thedas seems so very real to me because we are forced within that narrative, and our frustration and desire to break out of it is, at least for me, what instigates the choices I end up making. As if I myself am attempting some sort of revolution against the parts of the world that I want to see changed. Being forced to immerse myself in such a way makes me very happy.
Anyway, in short, Dragon Age is a story chock-full of complexities, both in the worldbuilding and in the characters. Simplifying any of that in any way is a disservice to a phenomenal creation.

Following up on my post from before about the first of the specials now that I’ve finished them all, spoilers under the cut. TL;DR/spoiler free version, they’re all decently fun, the third one actually makes it feel like an anniversary
First episode thoughts haven’t changed, it’s fun, standard Doctor Who fair, felt like it was made for everyone who stopped watching after 10 regenerated with barely enough context to get people over the jump, worked entirely because David and Catherine have amazing chemistry.
Second episode is filler, but with a purpose. One scene during the actual adventure exists to set up the plot, but outside communicating to Donna that the Doctor’s in a mess of an identity crisis and thankfully establishing that RTD isn’t going to hand wave away canon events, overarching plot isn’t really there but that’s fine. It was a lot of fun, and was silly and exciting. Definitely shined because again, David and Catherine have great chemistry. Didn’t feel like part of an anniversary.
And then Part 3. Objectively the best part of them all, and for three reasons: Kate Stewart, Melanie Bush, and the 15th Doctor. And those three are doing a lot of heavy lifting for me because I… have opinions that matter a lot to me, and absolutely no one else. The Toymaker is, I’m very aware, a biased narrator, but the way 11 and 12’s companions were portrayed in the episode’s puppet show rubbed me the wrong way.
Which might have been the point. Kill the nuance, give the death and not what came after, and cast the Doctor as the problem to make Donna doubt him and him doubt himself. Genuinely that’s going to be how I read it. And the blatant lack of mention of any of thirteen’s companions - probably because all of hers left. Completely alive, memories in tact, in their original universe.
The bi-generation bit is a little bit of a cop out but it was desperately fun, and I’ve come up with a working in universe explanation for myself so I can roll with it, even though I doubt it’s what RTD is going for. Pretty sure it’s mostly so they can try and give DT a spin-off and convince people to not drop Disney+ between seasons if they’re only using it for Doctor Who. Or milk the franchise the same way they’ve done it with Marvel and Star Wars and their own animated canon.
But back to what I was saying. It finally felt like the anniversary special we were told it was. There was a celebration of Doctor Who within it that was deeper than looking back exclusively at things done in Series Four. The past mattered. I hate to say this because Catherine Tate is flawless but it was nice to pull away from Donna for the little it did and give the Doctor breathing room.
I wish it didn’t take so long for me to look at it and say ‘yes, this set of episodes is meant to celebrate 60 years of Doctor Who’, but in the end I did get there, which is a marked improvement on where I was when we only had one episode. I’ll take it.
I won’t come back to it constantly like I do with the 50th. But it gave me the 15th Doctor. It gave me back Melanie Bush. I’m glad to finally have the Doctor I was promised all those ages ago. And I had fun. In the end, that’s all I ask of Doctor Who.

i’m such a fucking sucker for siblings as best friends ok. rowen has never had a friend she loved and understood better than evander. a lot of that stems from their childhood where rowen did not get along particularly well with any of her peers (overdeveloped sense of justice etc etc) and evander was willing to sacrifice his admittedly pretty shallow childhood friends to make sure his sister didn’t end up alone. their partnership is flawless and now they make some money killing people about it. not exactly evander’s preferred profession, but i digress. him and rowen are absolutely unstoppable and wouldn’t trade each other for the world.

it’s much easier for rowen to make friends now than it was when she was younger. she knows how to find her people. rowen’s connections are primarily made through experience and shared ideas, so when she finds someone with a similar kind of fire as her, no matter how subdued it may be in them, she has an easy time bringing it out and cultivating that friendship. it’s the kind of thing that really transcends age and personal history, which is why people like zephyr and alya aren’t intimidated by her. she’s definitely not someone you immediately think of as especially socially adept, but she has her moments.
4. Do they believe in love at first sight? Have they ever developed a crush or romantic (or erotic) fixation upon a stranger based on their appearance alone?
believing in love at first sight is a no. she certainly believes in attraction at first sight, but not love. that’s pretty easily seen with grace. it’s not her fault that grace looked so strikingly gorgeous in comparison to the shitty quality newspaper photos she’s gathered for intel. so that was a pretty immediate crush. …which wasn’t great considering that the two were not exactly allies yet when they first met. rowen and grace’s relationship evolved pretty gradually, but has also always been founded on their mutual attraction to each other. the love part in terms of emotional bonding gets a little messy, but it’s there and it’s important.
