Unpopular opinion: The narrative favors MARINETTE over everyone else, so get over yourselves if you think Adrien is being coddled or everyone else is not punished enough.
If it seems like she's being blamed for shit she didn't do, that's the narrative forcing the plot to center around her instead of someone else. If she does something that actually warrants punishment like stalking Adrien or leading Luka on, it gets brushed to the side. If she goes out of her way to snoop somewhere she doesn't belong like say, the Agreste Mansion, that's the narrative shoehorning her in instead of giving screentime to characters who needed it more like everyone who was already at the exclusive party (not just Adrien, but Kagami and Chloe too. Them along with Felix were in the same room and it's a waste the narrative didn't do shit with it). Marinette always "learns" the lesson of the day because she's the PROTAGONIST. If someone else were to learn their lesson, that's taking away from Marinette and the show doesn't allow that. If people like Chat Noir or Alya or Fu seem incompetent, it's because they needed to nerf everyone else to make Marinette shine because this is supposed to be her show and Marinette needs to be the most powerful piece in the board. If it seems like Adrien is doing nothing, it's because the show doesn't know what to do with him outside of being Marinette's trophy. He has to be "perfect" if he's gonna be a good prize, so the narrative pretends he is and ignores his less than pleasant sides. His actions ultimately don't matter. He can save the world from a giant pastry and it's just gonna be a footnote in the episode. He can "get away" with shit cause the spotlight refuses to hang around him long enough for it to bite him in the ass. He has no real power within the narrative. Everyone else has even less than him. They matter less than him. It's why the narrative doesnt say shit about your saint Luka for lying to Marinette's face about him knowing her secret identity.
It's always Marinette who has development and agency and power and can make a difference. She's not the martyr you like to paint her as. She has everything, the good, the bad and the ugly.
(The post this anon is referring to)
Okay, I will once again admit that I really phrased my response to that ask in a terrible way, and once again, I apologize for that bad take saying he was worse than Chloe and Lila combined, but I still stand by my claim that the show doesn’t call Adrien out for the things that he does compared to Marinette getting punished or blamed for every little thing she does.
Are you really going to ignore every single terrible thing Adrien has done while acting like Marinette is the real bad guy here? If not, here’s a recap of the things Adrien did in Season 4 alone...
He actively slacked off on his duties and got excited at the idea of someone almost getting akumatized, in addition to disregarding the responsibilities Ladybug now has as Guardian (Lies)
He repeatedly disobeyed orders for petty and selfish reasons (Lies, Sentibubbler, Wishmaker, Strikeback)
He refused to understand the boundaries Ladybug placed regarding their relationship (Glaciator 2)
He almost harmed innocent people, intentionally and unintentionally (Hack-San, Rocketear)
He got himself captured or brainwashed by an Akuma (Mr. Pigeon 72, Mega Lech, Guiltrip, Ephemeral, Penalteam)
He literally gave up being a superhero and left Ladybug to deal with the fallout (Kuro Neko)
He talked shit about her behind her back because he was left out of certain discussions and plans like the identities of the temp heroes, but as soon as she had no other allies, he acted like he always cared about Ladybug’s best interests. Oh yeah, and before that, he even whined about Ladybug not always trusting him WHILE SHE WAS HAVING A FUCKING PANIC ATTACK, FULLY AWARE SHE DIDN’T KNOW HE WAS CAT NOIR. (Strikeback)
And here’s all the stuff Marinette has had to go through in Season 4...
She wasn’t able to enjoy her relationship with Luka thanks to the growing amount of responsibilities in her superhero life (Truth)
She was yelled at by another Guardian who did nothing to actually help her (Furious Fu, Ephemeral)
She was shamed by Mylene for not doing enough to help the environment because I guess saving lives as Ladybug didn’t count (Mega Leech)
She had to deal with nightmares about losing to Shadowmoth (Sentibubbler)
She blamed herself for her mother getting arrested by a bunch of aggressive cops (Qilin)
She was influenced by her Kwami’s severe case of the munchies that she couldn’t control at all (Dearest Family)
She worked herself ragged trying to find a replacement for Cat Noir after being left high and dry by him (Kuro Neko)
And after learning her best friend went behind her back to not lose her boyfriend (Rocketear) she lost all of the Miraculous, and by extension, all of her other allies after being stabbed in the back by someone she thought she could trust while simultaneously being shamed for not trusting people, and need I mention the panic attack again? (Strikeback)
That’s not even getting into the routine stress of always needing to save the day while Cat Noir either slacks off in battle or sacrifices himself on a whim because he thinks her angry face is cute (Lies), or the fact that once she retires as Guardian, she’ll lose all of her memories relating to the Miraculous and her life as Ladybug (Miracle Queen).
After all that, you think Adrien has it harder? Adrien, the person who routinely screws around while lives are at risk, never takes responsibility for his actions, and will threaten to quit if he doesn’t get exactly what he wants, if he isn’t throwing hissy fits first? You think he has it harder than Marinette?
I get I said something stupid about how bad I think Adrien is, but you can’t act like he’s entirely blameless in this situation.

Hello there! I’ve been going around on several comic book forums and everyone seems to agree that 616!Tony is way worse, more arrogant and shady than MCU!Tony. His role in cacw was apparently nerfed compare for the atrocities he did in comics. So how different/worse is Tony in comics? Is it also true he dislikes mutants? Thank you :)
oh yeah, the fact that there are like millions of people with superpowers in 616 is what makes the most difference i think overall in the wrongful imprisonment part. In cacw he betrays his friends and sends them all to jail but that's just like a handful of people, he hurts more people and has more people on his side in the comics and that instantly makes everything worse.
He also makes a evil clone of thor so there's that.
they really try to walk the line everywhere else on tony being a good guy most of the time, but even when he isn't the actual villain he's still mostly messing things up for everyone else. If he's got a crossover into a series you like, 2/3 he's doing bad guy stuff, or being mind controlled or has had his tech stolen or hacked and the character you like has to deal with it.
He theoretically is wrong and learns his lesson way more often but given the nature of comics his personality gets reset and he ends up doing something else terrible. He doesn't get to become someone else bc he's a brand, he cant get lasting character development.
I wouldnt say he actively hates mutants. He's an establishment hero through and through, and i think he's threatened by the fact that anyone in the world could end up with the power naturally that he only has because of his extreme wealth and privilege.
If the mutants are at odds with the avengers it's usually him leading the charge and escalating situations. Also just a factor of the avengers being the worst superhero team though. They're never around when the x-men need them but if they've got beef with the mutants they roll up like america world police.
Anyway i think the current situation in comics is that tony's company got bought up by an anti mutant extremist using his resources to wage war on the mutant state krakoa, so in theory he's currently on the mutant's side but they are also in considerably more danger because of his business blunders.

finishing buffy s8 and starting angel&faith
spoilers under the cut
so, i did notice there were many writers in buffy s8 finally, confirming my suspicions that the badness of it wasn't joss alone. but let me tell you i was completely correct in thinking the last volume was going to piss me off. spike comes back and not only does she describe having sex with twilight to him, she KISSES HIM. i literally fell back onto my bed in exasperation. except she didn't actually kiss him, it ws a fantasy, which doesn't stop my annoyance, and neither does her immediately thinking she's gonna get into bed with him. i wanted to say like "buffy seems a little ooc, much more self-absorbed than she was originally". then i watched Hell's Bells since I was watching the dvd commentary, and her first words about Xander leaving Anya at the altar was "They were supposed to be my light at the end of the tunnel." and I was like oooooh nope she's still in character. just a bit worse, which is fair bc of the whole "leader of slayers" and "ultimate power" thing. also i was all excited about spike's design coming back in my last post bc of his nail polish, but then he's in like brownn boots and a tan sweater. idk just weird, i aggresively do not like it. i do like that Spike knew who twilight was immediately. very on-brand.
so angel kills giles and buffy doesn't stake him, but instead kills all magic. definitely needed to be done (poor willow, though), but it still seemed unrealistic that she didn't kill him, but i get why. angel&faith (abbreviated to a&f from here on out) pointed out the fact the angelus killed jenny in the same way, which i was surprised i didn't pick up on. faith gets giles' estate, which was a bit surprising but her explanation about it makes sense. that faith needed more help and all that. and faith is going to rehabilitate angel, which i love. angel's relationship with women like cordelia or faith are much nicer to me than anything about his relationship with buffy. and all magic is gone from the world except for the magic that's already there, tying these events to why the world is how it is in Fray (buffy having been the last slayer 200 years prior)
i'm curious to know how Willow was an Uber-witch then in the future, of whom Buffy goes back in time to kill. Also, Fray ended on a cliffhanger, the only continuation being when buffy went in time in s8. but i really want to know the rest of her story with Harth, especially because of that shocking kiss that's just like... what and why and what.
so warren is dead for good again, thank christ. everyone is mad at buffy for killing magic. it's all pretty fair since she boned twilight and birthed a whole universe and all that, being fairly selfish in their eyes, but since her and angel (mostly angel) were pretty possessed, it wasn't as selfish as it looks to everyone. but i'm glad they did it, a bit, because it brings us back to more of a similar world in the show. no more slayer military and all that, less bombastic fights and crazy mass demons. joss said "i learned what you like and didn't like" which i think means i'll like the seasons coming up much more. i don't like that willow has been nerfed, though. i love her so much, and she's so sad. and after goddesses and monsters, i knew she was into the snake goddess, and they're in love and she can never see her again. just... poor willow. i'm interested to know how that will turn out.
we also got to check in with riley, which i didn't care about, but it's part of the canon so i didn't skip it. and i was rewarded with finding out whistler is evil and an agent of twilight pulling the strings since buffy was 15. which was cool. oh! and giles leaving buffy the book that he pulled out in s1e1 was a nice touch. i dunno, the normalness of the epilogue gives me a lot of hope for s9 :) and so does the first vol of a&f
first off i'll say that I LOVE the art of a&f. Buffy art is really hit or miss, and while reading it i longed for the writing and art of Spike and Angel s5/6 comics (Urru and Lynch) even though when changing colorists/inkers around it could also be rendered hit or miss. But the a&f art? *chef's kiss*. The likenesses art great, the inking is amazing, I love the cell shading (which for comics is a much better fit to me than the airbrushing shading of buffy s8). I may be partial since it's the art style i'm personally trying to learn, and i'm seeing it being used professionally, but damn! it's really well done. and gone are the days of storyboarding being so confusing you dont know what's going on! i dunno if buffy s9 will lose that problem too, but here's hoping.
the characterization and story is really good, and angel is trying to bring giles back to life. i was thinking that wasn't really in character, but with eveything he did when he was (mostly) possessed by twilight, i can understand why. and faith promising to kill him, as usual. I just love it. it's got all the angel vibes of ats. I wonder how faith is going to reconcile that the slayers she helps want to kill angel. how she's going to allow him to bring giles back. it's a bummer, though, that new vampires that are turned since the seed was destroyed are like zombies. makes me uninterested in vampires. we get to check in with harmony at the end of the volume, which is fun. I love clem, he's continuously so cute.
i like the new villains. and they're working with Whistler, too. I'm interested to know more about the whistler lore. i wish they'd bring doyle back in some way. or cordelia. in comic form, not attached to an actor, i think i may actually like her, lol. i like that the seed rendered mohra blood unusable, since that could have changed angel's game completely, making him human. though, it doesn't make sense that he still says "i can't be what i need to be if i'm human". since he was human all through after the fall in Hell A and was able to save the world and all that while fighting demons constantly.
and what's up with that, too? so angel being twilight means eveyone hates him, he's infamous now. how does that reconcile with everyone in LA that he saved, making movies about he and Spike and Team Help the Hopeless, naming libraries after them and all that. Oh and I'm interested to know about the buddy comedy of illyria and gunn that was happening at the end of angel s6. i just love illyria and wanna know what she's up to.
TLDR: Joss says he learned a lot from doing buffy s8, seeing what worked and how certain things work in comic form. i feel like i'm going to enjoy the comics going forward, and really love a&f. the only thing that will make me really love s9 of Buffy when I start it, is if they change the entire art team (minus covers). I'm not sure if it's the inks that make it bad, but the shading definitely is bad. the pencils could be the problem, but since i can't see them, i'm not sure. the storyboarding was absolutely terrible, though, i had no idea what was happening a lot of the time. i'll be back after reading vol 1 of Buffy s9

Godzilla vs. Kong
So, the problem they have when they start is that they killed off all of the interesting Humans in the franchise.
So, we need to add some. What do we do?!?
Did you guess current year?, because you would be right. All of the men are fat, incompetent, cowards. Actually have a male save the day in KOTM? Well, don't worry, he'll be made incompetent.
All of the women? Flawless heroes. Of course, we need the power of narrative focus / protagonist-centred morality to make them seem like heroes, but that's going to stop us.
Another problem, one the producers openly admitted, is that Godzilla is just too powerful. So, they had to nerf him? They couldn't just have him not use his radiation breath, as a way to tell us that it's a mostly-friendly rivalry. Godzilla is also mostly aquatic, so by having them right away from the water, and not have him use his radiation breath, it would be pretty even.
Characters? Current Year.
Monster fights? Underwhelming.
What about the rest of the story?
The problem is that it's several stories. They apparently had several ideas, and just rubbed them all together.
One of the stories has King Kong escorted them into the Hollow Earth. This would be fantastic, if we got it.
MONARCH decides that they need to save Kong's life by hiding him from Godzilla. Because, as you know, King Kong and Godzilla have an ancient rivalry.
Oh, wait, we don't know that, do we?
Oh, their ancestors fought...
Ancestors?
*deep breath*
KOTM spent a good amount of time establishing the long rivalry between Godzilla and Ghidorah. Godzilla spends no time, and doesn't even treat it like it's new information. They also change the lore on the Titans, most of which are not members of a species, but are unique individuals.
Now, Skull Island is revealed to an entrance to The Hollow Earth. Skull Island (movie) was literally how the franchise confirmed that the Earth is hollow. KOTM implied it, Skull Island confirmed it.
So, they drug Kong, and put him in a dome on Skull Island, that has a projected interior to make it look like the jungle.
Kong figures it out right away.
Okay, what do we do now?
Take him into the hollow earth! How do you do that? By chaining him onto a ship. A ship. Godzilla is primarily aquatic. In order to have a battle between Godzilla and Kong on the water, you have to ridiculously nerf Godzilla, and Godzilla has this nerfed ability for the whole movie.
The next movie has Godzilla attack a megacorp. It turns out that the megacorp was building Mechagodzilla, but using two of Ghidorah's skull for telepathic control.
Spoilers: Using the skulls of Ghidorah was not a good idea. Shocking, I know.
Both of these would have made fantastic movies, but they combined them together, leaving everything hollow and pointless.
Oh, and there's a girl that talks to King Kong with sign language. Unfortunate, this part was done worse than Rampage. The Rock has the presence and charisma to pull it off. The rest of Rampage is terrible, but him talking to George with sign language was done quite well.

Dragon Ball GT 10
Tumblr media
✨GT Stands for Grueling Tedium✨
✨Is This Episode Worse than “The Roaming Lake”?✨
Yes.  Yes it is.  “The Roaming Lake” is fucking stupid.  For all its faults, it did not have a lengthy scene where the villains forced the hero to dance to the point of exhaustion.
This episode opens with the same scene of Goku, Trunks, and Pan jumping out of the ship to fight the worm monsters at the end of Episode 9.  They used to pull this trick in DBZ all the time, and I at least tolerated it there because I understood that the show had to pad things out so the manga could pull further ahead, but GT doesn’t have that excuse, and yet it abuses that trick way, way more.
Tumblr media
Back at Planet Luud, they bring in some enemies of the cult from the West Galaxy, and Mutchy-Motchy turns them into dolls with his whip, then feeds the dolls to the Luud idol in their temple.  It’s exactly like when he did it to that cultist in Episode 9, only with other aliens.  One of them is cosplaying as Vegeta, for some reason.
✨ Positivity Page✨
Tumblr media
Back at the planetoid, the GT crew was having a hard time fighting these worm monsters, until Goku discovered it’s a lot easier to grab them by the tail end.  This allows them to just have their way with these creatures, which seems kind of suspicious, but at least they gave a reason for the tide to turn.
Mostly, I just appreciate this part because it’s satisfying to see these characters whoop some ass, without any bullshit nerfing or GT logic getting in the way.  They just punch, kick, and rassle the worm monsters until they’re all beaten, and there’s no stupid “twist” where one of the worms has a magic potion that makes Goku a baby, or Pan decides that they need to use stealth instead of overwhelming force, or anything like that.  It’s not much, but I’ll take it.
✨ “Good” “Ideas”, Poorly Executed✨
Tumblr media
During the fight, the Para Brothers were inside the Earthling ship searching for the Dragon Ball.   When they can’t find it, they decide that it must be on one of the GT crew, which means they’ll have to take it by force.  This leads to a nine-hour staredown, because this is all the episode has left.
Tumblr media
The brother’s do a goofy pose, then they take off their battle vests, which double as sound and lighting equipment, and then they do a goofy dance.  The heroes look on in confusion, until Giru and Pan begin to dance as well.  Soon, they’re all dancing, and even repeating the stupid chant the Paras are doing, even though they don’t want to.
Tumblr media
That’s right, it’s a spell of some kind.   You watch the Para Brother’s long enough, you get stuck imitating their dance routine, and before you know it, you can’t... stop... doing the monkey!  And while you’re dancing, Bon Para can just walk right up and beat the shit out of you.
Tumblr media
Honestly, this is so fucking stupid that it almost becomes enjoyable.  It’s honestly kind of satisfying to see someone beat the crap out of Pan, Trunks, and Goku.  But that’s kind of the problem here.  The Para Brothers suck, and the GT Crew sucks, and their fight sucks.  This episode represents a complete failure by everyone involved who made this show.
And you know, if it was a short little bit, I probably wouldn’t mind it so much.  Make it like a cliffhanger to round out the last few minutes of one episode and the opening minutes of another.  But no, this is the entire second half of this episode, and it just goes on and on and on.  And the first half of the episode was just padding and filler.   You have to imagine that someone working on this show probably thought they could stretch this out to a full episode, and they had to be talked out of it.
Tumblr media
The big problem here is that the good guys are so powerful, which means it takes for-friggin’-ever to wear them out.  So who saves the day? Turns out it’s the caterpillar monsters, who somehow get up from the beating they took, and attack the Para brothers.  I’m not clear on whether they were affected by the spell or not, but since they don’t have feet, I’m guessing it wouldn’t work as well on them.
Tumblr media
So the good guys take out the Paras while they have the opening, and I guess the caterpillar monsters don’t give them any more trouble since they know they’ll get thrashed again, and then Trunks and Pan search the Paras’ ship for the Six Star Dragon Ball.  Just as they’re about to give up, Pan notices something written on a terminal, and when Giru reads it to her, the ship’s computer decides it’s a command, and immediately takes off to return to Planet Luud.
This is easily one of the worst episodes of GT, and by extension, one of the worst episodes of anything related to Dragon Ball.  Hell, this might be the worst episode of anything, ever?  I’m trying to think of something worse, but nothing comes to mind.
✨ The Blade Braxton Memorial Haiku*✨
Fuck this episode
Fuck this shitty episode.
Fuck this episode.

Ok I finished trigun stampede an few hours ago and um my review of the show overall: quite a few epic moments, the last episode was mostly epicness with not too many complaints, it was fun to watch. However overall the way the plot is told is needlessly packed…. we need some time to breathe! I feel like I just watched 8 season finales in a row. It just KEEPS pressing on.
Just….there’s no TIME for anything! I feel like I would not have gotten attached to the characters of Meryl and Wolfwood at ALL if I did not know them prior. I certainly did not have time to get attached to Roberto, and I feel like his screen time is basically the same as Meryl’s. Like, there’s just major event-after-major event and absolutely no time for us to get attached to characters, because almost every single one of their interactions happens when they’re under pressure, which simply doesn’t give us a well-rounded impression of them.
+ Plus points for Vash’s Stampede redesign; he looks the least like his manga counterpart but I actually think he retains his energy the most out of all the characters. It’s cute!
+ Plus points for Meryl, I liked Meryl and I can’t wait to see her in s2. She didn’t do much in this season but I think most of her scenes were really fun and actually showed a lot of character when compared to Wolfwood. Maybe that’s just me ?
- Minus points for Elendira being a child!!! And…I think not trans? Why are you nerfing one of like three women in this season AND the only LGBTQ character in the entire series!!!
* Neutral points for Brad being an adult, it was actually kinda cute bc in the manga Vash is the one who’s like “aww look how much you’ve grown ☺️”.
+ Plus points for the Vash backstory at his “Home” overall, I thought that was a real nice touch, I enjoy how they expanded on it and showed his life after the fall but before he became “the Stampede.”
- Minus points for Wolfwood bc who is that. That’s not Wolfwood that’s Dogbark. He’s just edgy and nothing else, like I’m sorry but he’s boring. In the manga he’s fun bc he’s dark but the fun from his banter doesn’t just come straight from edge, he’s a little silly and it plays off Vash. And his “edginess” is actually sensical nihilism and not Hot Topic teenage angst, as it is in Stampede.
- Also ik Nightow himself not have the greatest consistency when coloring his skin but Studio Orange you could have made him slightly visibly darker. Literally I’m pretty sure even ‘98 anime was better and his shading flip flopped a LOT in that one. Also give him his nose back! No excuses.
- Basically NO reason to introduce Livio this early on, especially since we see them for ONE episode. Like you’re just cluttering the show by introducing all the cool stuff all at once. He’s completely forgettable, simply because SO much shit happens in this show! STOP IT!!!! STOP! PLEASE! JUST GIVE US! A FUCKING! MINUTE! TO! CATCH! UP!!!!!!!!!
+ However shifting the timeline around for CERTAIN things was done well (eg Vash losing his arm at that one place instead of July). Like I’m actually pretty impressed w how they recontexualized certain things to rewrite the plot as a backstory while still maintaining cohesion.
+ I love Zazie the beast! I’m glad we see a lot of them! Plus points!
* Neutral points for making Knives the twin with more Plant powers? Like where he doesn’t eat? I have no opinions on it, just wondering why they chose to do that.
+ I like Knives bubble wrap cloak a lot! I also like the piano thing, it’s really cool.
Ummmmm ya that’s my critique. Epic stuff happens but like it’s just all epic stuff. And epic stuff with no substance is worse than no epicness at all. I would maybe say the problem is that it’s all fanservice. But idk which fan this is servicing lol. It’s like….almost like MCU? Maybe it’s Marvelization. Maybe that’s what I’m looking for. Too much cool stuff. Just show me the fucking cat or something. Give me 1 (one) funny moment. Idk.
Edit: wait one more thing. I’m sad that they didn’t make baby Knives the more outgoing/hopeful one. I really enjoyed that in the manga, bc I thought it added so much to his character.

I always find it amusing when characters in FE games are really powerful when fought as enemies but suffer massive nerfs if and when they become playable, such as Saias having ten leadership stars that inexplicably drop down to three when he joins or, on the higher difficulties of Fates, Rinkah and Kaze having significantly worse stats when they first join the party in chapter 4 than when they were fought as bosses in chapter 2; what, did they slack off on training between chapters or something?
With Saias, I tried to come up with a ton of explanations back in the day to find a watsonian reason, and it was something like
his grandpa just died telling him his only value in life was to pass on Fala blood, so maybe his own morale isn't that high
Saias consciously doesn't give his 100% when he's fighting in Leif's army, as you can see with his death quote where he "retreats" when everyone else, even Ced, dies - maybe because he feels like he's fighting against Julius and he doesn't want that
The people he is working with (Leif's army) maybe don't trust him as much as the Imperial soldiers he was commanding in the previous battle
And then you have the FE6 mechanic lol, when red units keep their broken stats when you recruit them, and that's why Rutger is so damn good (ditto for Shin iirc?)!
But your mention about training made me think of that neat thing @renisfan made me notice, in CF, Dimitri as a boss has a higher brawling rank than in any other incarnation when he's fought as a red unit - and how this higher rank in brawling might suggest he and Rhea were training together during those 5 years!

Silver generally has a problem with being too OP that the writers feel like they have to nerf him. Forces is I feel even worse in this regard than the comics are.
Though now that I think about it, the comics do seem to nerf most everyone besides maybe the villains. Even Sonic seems to be weaker than he should be at points.
Though Silver is definitely the worst off considering we see him almost singlehandedly take care of the Metal Virus after they got the Chaos Emeralds.
In Forces, it is indeed highly strange that Silver just... does not try to grab Infinite or throw anything at him or the like, yes. Especially since the former then is seen in the final battle! And similarly, Infinite never tries to death-beam Silver to hell like he did with the Avatar's companions in one flashback. Infinite is a powerful foe for sure, but I feel that the battle between him and Silver did not really show that very well. Still, I find it impressive Silver managed to last so long against him! With a diss against what Infinite is preaching on top, nice.
As for the comics, I haven't thoroughly reread any in some time, so I cannot say with certainty how nerfed everybody has gotten. I do think it's stupid that, when Eggman crashed their victory party at the end of the Metal Virus arc, NOBODY could defeat him until Sonic came along and did it in like... seconds. But in the same vein, Forces suffered that exact problem with the Resistance over the 6 months Sonic was captured, though there they have as defense that they were with less people and the entire world was overrun, not just one party. Still, I think the franchise at large might have an issue that Sonic and friends alike indeed are just so powerful, it becomes difficult to write a story wherein any of them really struggle with what Eggman throws at them. There is nothing wrong with powerful characters because Eggman can match that power, but I feel that making everybody suddenly struggle with what is, for all intents and purposes, a menial little dozen-people-against-one-robot fight amidst many others in their daily lives is not the way.
And indeed, in IDW Silver is powerful when the plot needs him to be and not powerful also when the plot needs him to be. I'd forgotten about the Metal Virus resolution for a second, where he indeed just changes people on a molecular level despite never having given any indication he can do anything like that, haha. And then for an entire planet at basically once! It's a creative solution for sure, but then indeed it becomes a bit baffling that Silver in his base form struggles with catching ten people in freefall, holding up a handful of tools simultaneously, or catching someone stuck within a whole slew of other items Silver was holding up already (if he telekinetically placed Duo on the chair, wasn't he already holding him in a grasp?). So yeah, I dunno. All I can say is that to me, it lacks consistency between the various issues of the comic itself and the franchise at large both.

Wait, ct predicted something correctly on July 3rd, 2021? I was a little off, and it’s not actually the real Adrien, but still. I will count this as a success.
Canix (nickname I made up) has to be that blurry concept art guy from the Lindalee Rose video. I think we were thrown off by the discarded color schemes because why would a dog be yellow and green, but he looks pretty similar to Sabrina’s design.
Polymouse looks so swaggy in the Lucky Charm sunglasses. I’m obsessed.
Pegabun (nickname I made up) is so cute! I love how her bunny ears are made out of the horse’s little Hermes wings. Kinda bummed that this implies no Alix, but I’m curious what Maribun is gonna do. Go to the future for help and bring back the “new character from the future” who isn’t Alix? Who will it be?
I really wonder what will prompt Ladybug to give Alix the rabbit miraculous when it does happen, though. She’s the “last chance hero”, but if the entire city being on fire while the whole team is getting rocked isn’t enough to warrant her entry, what will? Either things are gonna get a million times worse in season 5, or she’ll get it during some completely normal episode with a villain who is close to her and/or has time powers.
Speaking of the team, will all the heroes show up like in the previous finales, or is this team here all we’re getting? I love the idea of Pigella’s gift exposing Hawkmoth’s long term plan, Luka knowing the identities just has to be relevant at some point, and I just think the finale having every current holder is kind of a climactic expectation at this point.
I finished my post about yin yang pairs days ago, but so much started happening that I didn’t post it because I didn’t want it to get drowned out. Is now a good time? We saw the last four powers, and we’re getting a rabbit/horse unification, which are relevant to my post.
I’m hoping Astruc will serve us his usual twitter posts about what these powers explicitly are, what concepts the miraculous embody, and what the powers’ original names are because sometimes details are missing or something gets lost in translation.
I think the ox and dog powers are pretty cool and useful. The ox would’ve been so helpful against Style Queen. Ever since they started spoiling these heroes, I’ve been trying to get a glimpse of Minotaurox’s tool, and he didn’t even pull it out. From the strike back trailer he looks like he might have a hammer? Maybe also a little anvil or something on his lower back? Idk. I understand nobody using their tools to fight in a soccer episode, but I’m curious to see how they do it.
The goat power is... interesting. Genesis is a cool as hell name, but making any object? Very similar to his akuma power and very similar to Lucky Charm. I’m curious to see what kind of use it’ll have in the future. It’d be useful to keep up the lie and pretend that it’s way more powerful than it actually is, but I don’t expect that kind of continuity, so where does it go from here? I wonder if all his objects have the same color and texture like how all the Lucky Charms do.
The rooster power is stupid busted, like wtf? His power is that he can do anything he wants? The other ridiculously powerful miraculous have some sort of big downside to them, so does he have a secret nerf or power cap? The rabbit is OP, but it’s super dangerous, and its holder has a great potential of messing up and screwing over entire timelines. The peacock is OP, but its power comes with messy moral complications. Is there a “but” with this one? Is there a valid explanation as to why Fu didn’t just pull it out from the jump as opposed to introducing it at the very end of s4?
Edit: I saw someone propose that he lied about his power like Caprikid did. I don’t think that’s likely because they never said he was lying or what his real power was otherwise, so it would confuse the kids at home (and us), but man it’d be hilarious if his actual power was just like. Telekinesis or something and they don’t explain that until a later episode.
I love how not-shocked the kids are at seeing kwamis for the first time. Mylene and Juleka were terrified, but zero damns given here. I’m dying to learn more about them like how we learned about Mullo, Daizzi, and Roarr. I guess we know a bit about Barrk, though, and Ziggy is a lot more talkative than many kwamis.
If these kids don’t have individual development episodes in s5+ I am getting on a plane to France and having a chat with the writers. Marc was actually not too bad. We learned a bit about him, and he’s actually had development since s2! I’m getting the vibe that Penalteam is only the start of Sabrina’s arc, not that she’s supposed to 180 in one ep, so I’ll excuse that for now, especially since the dog has a different holder in the next episodes. I s2g if we don’t get Ivan and Nath development though...
“Ivan is scared to hurt others because he’s so strong”. Guys. If he had his own ep is this what it’d be about? At least explicitly tie it back to Stoneheart. I could write a whole essay about him, his merits, and his potential to be interesting, but he’s constantly overshadowed in the show. I think he’s one of the characters who deserves a miraculous a lot, actually. He’s always ready to protect his friends, even sacrifice himself to save them, he loves and supports his girlfriend no matter what, he protests for the environment, he physically cannot tell a lie, and he does everything he can to make sure his friends feel happy and loved. Go deeper with it. Introduce his home life, bring back his poetry writing, if he’s the secret autistic character, strongly hint at that. Give him his Luisa Madrigal moment or something instead of making him an unoriginal gentle giant.
Nath has been oddly static for the entire show. It’s very interesting that his flaws are so similar to Chloe’s. They both have bad attitudes about things they don’t want to do, and they both hate being on teams. The difference is that Chloe makes it everyone else’s problem while Nath just ditches and gets Marc to lie about it. I could write an essay about them being foils after my hypothetical Ivan is Awesome essay.
I think he’s one of the most confusing characters honestly. Not that he’s inconsistent, but that I never know what he’s thinking or what he wants. He’s failing chemistry, he’s been skipping school since season one, and he’s asocial af. He’s not there in Pixelator when everyone’s working at the hotel, he doesn’t come out of his locker when everyone’s hiding in Zombizou, so he ends up being the only classmate who didn’t sacrifice himself to protect the rest/Ladybug. Even Chloe, who hated the idea, came around and sacrificed herself so Ladybug could win. He’s sleeping in origins. He probably wouldn’t have celebrated his birthday at all if he didn’t get akumatized, and I remember reading a post about how he never goes out unless Alix is there too, implying that she forces him. The only time with spoken lines when we see them being best friends is when Alix helps Nath clean up his biggest mess. He gasps like everyone else in the sneeze scene in Guiltrip, but proceeds to be the only one other than the mean girls to not do anything. He doesn’t trust people and gets paranoid that they’re his enemies.
Another thing is that being good at art is constantly used as his one single merit. What makes his villain form powerful? Good at art. What makes his hero form powerful? Good at art. Why does Marc start to like him in the first place? Good at art. What does he have in common with Marinette? Art. What does he do with Alix? Art. Is he caring, or trustworthy, or resourceful, or- Idk. But he can draw a picture real good.
I could keep going, but I think you guys get the point. I’ve already taken up too much space on this post about this. And this hasn’t changed too significantly over the course of the whole show. When are they going to address it? Is he okay? Is he just a massive doomer? Most characters with negative traits in s1 have had a lot of development since then like Kim’s bully arc or Mylene’s phobias, so I think it’s interesting that he’s still the same, especially since he’s self-aware. I’d love to see a @gentil-minou post about him.
Quilin had terrible animation but it was very nicely written. It was just a simple episode that had little to do with the main plot, but had an important message and some good character moments. We learned more about Sabine in Quilin than we learned about a lot of characters in their own development episodes. I’m glad we finally got the Adrien’s-Pajamas-level lore of what’s behind the door in Marinette’s kitchen/living room. Sabine is so good. I love how she knows exactly what Marinette is going to do at all times. It makes me surprised that she hasn’t figured out that her daughter is LB yet.
I hope Strike Back airs or gets leaked within the next two weeks. I also hope we start hearing info about the premiers of season 5. We know there are some completed dubs and supposedly the first five or six eps are finished in order, which is good. I don’t think the hiatus will be too long. I predict that it’ll probably be Gabriel Agreste -> Kuro Neko length if not shorter honestly. Cant wait!

You know him, you either love or hate him (or are moderately confused by my sudden dive into this hyperfixation); we're talking about Orko because I have a lot of feelings.
As a disclaimer, I am not gonna claim to be some kind of superfan. I am not aware of every single iteration of the lore and all of its secrets. I don't know anything about the DC comics. I'm only halfway through the 2002 series as of me writing this. I am not someone you want to have discussions on the wider Masters of the Universe.... universe with. However, after watching Revelation, the entire Filmation He-Man (and some of She-Ra, cause he was there too), and going on a deep dive of storybooks, annuals, and minicomics courtesy of He-Man.org and the lovely people who submitted their scans there, I do feel pretty qualified to at least talk about Orko.
So, with all that being said, I'd like to get into a little bit of backstory, if only for my followers who came to this blog for completely different things and are wondering where the hell my love for this funky little wizard dude came from all of a sudden. Truth is, Orko is actually one of my earliest faves! Mind you, I only had limited access to Masters of the Universe as a kid, only seeing a couple of rented VHS tapes and later getting my hands on a small pile of the Golden Books from Goodwill, but apparently it was enough for Orko to  imprint himself into my brain. However, also due to my limited exposure, he kind of got shifted to the back of my head as I got deeper into other things. I still knew for a fact I liked Orko a lot though, even if I couldn't quite remember why anymore.
And then Masters of the Universe: Revelation dropped on Netflix. I'm not gonna get into my opinions of that show lest I open a flood of irrelevant discourse (for those uninitiated, it is a bit... divisive, to say the least). However my feelings on the matter did encourage me to go and watch the original and well, holy shit I love Orko more now than I could have ever comprehended as a kid. He is THE quintessential underappreciated comic relief character I tend to gravitate towards, and then some.
But before I get into that, let me back up a bit and explain. Orko is a Trollan, a race of magical little dudes that are basically floating sweaters with hats and covered up faces. Out of these Trollans, Orko is an incredibly fucking OP archmage. Like, they straight up call him Orko the Great, he's so powerful. But then, he gets caught in a freak storm that whisks him away from his home dimension and into Eternia. Immediately, he runs into a young Prince Adam, who is trapped in a swamp/tar pit and needs rescuing. Orko, being the upstanding lad that he is, uses his magic to save him but in the process loses the item that allows him to focus his magic to the swamp (in the 80s version, it's a medallion, but in the 2002 series, it's a wand). Worse yet, the magic (and dare I say the very laws of physics) in Eternia works pretty much the opposite as it does in Trolla, so he's been incredibly nerfed.
So basically, Orko is trapped in a topsy-turvy world away from friends and family, a world with magic he is fundamentally incompatible with. Ouch. He's not completely screwed, however, as he is rewarded by the king and queen for his heroism and appointed... the court jester. Double ouch. He surprisingly doesn't seem to mind though. He genuinely does enjoy entertaining people, even when his tricks only ever work like half the time because he's basically a Mac program trying to run on a Windows computer.
It's not all horrible though, as he does quite literally get adopted by the royal family  and thus sort of become the entire palace's weird son/little brother (despite being older than many of them. He's very, very child-coded largely for the purposes of being a stand-in and example lesson to the actual children watching). But also, more importantly, he becomes one of the very select few to know that Adam and He-Man are one and the same.
But outside of secret-keeping, he is actually a pretty valuable ally to have against Skeletor and his dudes because even though his magic is kind of screwed up, when it does work, he's still one of the most powerful mages on Eternia. In various materials, he's created floods, a second winter, and hell, he can literally explode himself and still be perfectly fine. He's also really clever and can weasel his way out of a number of situations. In one episode, for instance, he manages to convince someone that he's He-Man and Adam is his "assistant" in order to free him from captivity so the day has a better chance of actually being saved.  He's also got the ability to just be really frustrating and incomprehensible to the point that villains who capture him sometimes either don't want him or don't know what to do with him anymore, which is honestly really funny. In an episode of She-Ra, the villains tried to scan his brain but because the inner machinations of his mind are that much of an enigma, he got diagnosed a weirdo and broke the entire machine. Absolutely delightful.
However, there's a lot more to Orko than just comedy and bungled magic. He's actually surprisingly complex!
See, going into this, I expected Orko's whole situation be played entirely for laughs while the sadder implications of his existence go entirely unaddressed. Coming off the heels of characters like Cobalt and others I enjoy, I'm used to this sort of treatment by writers. But they actually don't do that. The depressing subtext is for once, actually TEXT, which was INCREDIBLY surprising to me. We actually get to see another side of him, a side that hates that he can't be taken seriously no matter what he does, a side that is well aware of all the trouble he causes and feels like a burden to those around him. He actually runs away on multiple occasions, fully believing that he's unloved and everyone would be better off without him, even if that couldn't be further from the truth (a point which the Sorceress hammers home with multiple straight up magical video presentations, and in the 2002 series, a literary adaptation, of why he is loved and important).
Underneath all the hyping himself up that he does, there's a lot of insecurity. He's someone who desperately wants to be loved and respected and feels that without funny magic tricks to entertain people, he has no inherent value (which is incredibly relatable if you are also known by people as The Funny One). At one point he agrees with the notion that he doesn't feel like much more than a pet, which is absolutely heartbreaking. Even when he gets the ability to go back and forth between Eternia and Trolla, his feelings of inadequacy now extend toward his family, worrying that his own uncle, the one who taught him everything he knows and greatly contributed to him being Orko the Great back home in the first place, wouldn't be proud of him. Being on Eternia highkey wrecked his shit, man.
However, even when given the opportunity to go back home for good, he always chooses to stay because he's loyal as hell. Even if he needs some reminders, he does know he's needed not just in the fight against evil, but just because his friends and newfound family genuinely love him. It's heartbreaking, but also incredibly wholesome. I did not even remotely expect a comic relief character like this to get this much depth and respect from the writers, especially not from the incredibly campy and cheaply animated 80s series. I am genuinely so unused to this.
But I think that's also what separates him a bit from his fellow Silly Kid Appeal Characters That Kids Fucking Hate ala Snarf Thundercats or Scrappy Doo. He not only makes a concerted effort to be an actually useful ally, but he's also in fact very self-aware of his status as one of these characters. He knows he screws up a lot but he actually tries to accept responsibility and fix it. It makes me wanna root for the lil dude. Now I understand if someone isn't a fan of the brand of humor he brings to the table, or feel like he's simply a distraction from the Cool Buff Dudes Fighting Each Other, but I hope you can see why he might also be a really appealing character to other people, both kids and adults alike. I mean, he was popular enough to be embedded into the canon despite originating from the cartoon and not the toyline for a reason, after all.
Orko is a fun, entertaining, but also complex, heartwarming, and relatable character. I know there is a faction of people that would disagree with me, but I don't think you need to change him all that much or make him a super serious character to be more appealing. He's already got a lot going on that a writer could easily work with. It all just depends on where you decide to focus. Take a lesson from the show and accept that he's fine just the way he is.

oc bingo but specifically for what emen got going on 😊
YES♡♡♡ did them separately just for neatness/annotation purposes but there's all kinds of Overlap ofc :~)
ehen first! text (+emy after) under a cut bc this ran LONG waa
Tumblr media
war crimes: of the 'willing to sink to underhanded/unethical tactics to ensure victory' variety. as a commander he runs an incredibly tight ship and isn't cruel without concrete/carefully-planned strategic reason to be, but also with the right strategic reason he's always willing to be cruel :)
very pretty: ofc :) not sth he's deeply invested or thinks much abt but he's naturally beautiful
unhealthy family dynamics: from every possible angle :D!! complicated relationship w/ mother, complicated relationship w/ father, surrogate-parenting of younger siblings, obsession w/ family history/legacy, paternalistic rulership ideology..
angry at god: giving him this one on the biggest technicality ever which is that he has a personal working relationship with a deity who goes out of their way to piss him off whenever they can. most literal interpretation of this square
political mastermind: ofc. prodigy boy who always gets his way, intensely charismatic, 6 steps ahead of you, most talented ruler of the south realm in centuries ETC
mind control: ofc! aste nerfs him frm time to time when they think a given situation would be funnier if he didn't get his way (always without warning), and it doesn't work on emery, but otherwise.. :)!
he would definitely give himself the sharp humour square but idk if i'm officially letting him have it. sharp-tongued, anyways..
philosophical dilemma: legacy issues all the way down, all-consumingly, nothing he thinks abt more than the eternal parable of whether dying honourably or continuing to live on in shame is the correct course & which one he would/will choose in the face of a final defeat!!
smartest character in the whole thing: giving him this one shamelesslyyy, he's the greatest tactician of his era, an innovator in both military and civic engineering, an all around Ideas Man! not his fault there are so many extenuating circumstances all the time
god complex: he wld never view it in those terms but his Sovereign Complex functions essentially the same way/almost for the worse lol
power hungry: he's going to be the first man to hold the title of emperor in the south in 300 years :~) and after of that he'll go on extending the borders of his empire until there are no more worlds left to conquer
refined aesthetic: AND HOW, he's not particularly invested in physical beauty for its own sake but he values neatness/elegance/general aesthetic sensibility very highly. a prim and proper type, fundamentally...
control freak: obviouslyy, hand in hand with everything else here, everything he does he does singlehandedly and on his own terms and merits, he has every situation planned out six steps in advance, etc
ruthless to the point of borderline sadism: emphasis on the ruthlessness. he doesn't take direct pleasure in cruelty (beyond a little gloating when things are going his way) but ultimately any of his subordinates can be disposed of when necessary, and all of his adversaries should be dispatched in whatever way's the most expedient, he'll do whatever has to be done to ensure victory
manipulation: both emotional and political lol. whatever it takes whatever it takes
complicated relationship with death: thematically rather than mechanically; once again the legacy issue of the proper attitude for a tasier emperor..
likes a challenge but only because they know they'll come out on top: ending on my other favourite one here :D genius strategist whose idea of a good time is inventing+play-testing new tactics in skirmishes, but at the end of the day he takes his campaigns very seriously and won't take on ventures without a very good chance of victory, if circumstances really conspire against him he will turn tail and leave, if it becomes more profitable he'll turn on a temporary ally, etc. at the end of the day if you defeat him in an unexpected enough way he WILL have a little tantrum
andddd emery card! :D
Tumblr media
war crimes: of the 'conquering army you really don't want passing through your village' variety, emy is fundamentally a bandit king with no interest in really reeling in the army of brigands that's collected around him via law of the strongest, and his only principle as a military commander is (as in the rest of his life) 'do whatever i feel like whenever i want'
very pretty: is he pretty? is he ruggedly handsome? does he need to be put thru the washing machine? vote now on your phone
unhealthy family dynamics: just the most layers of abandonment issues you could possibly fit into a single man
angry at god: well it’s complicated. at all times god is biting him and he’s asking them to stop biting him but also they’re good friends and he’ll give them a piggyback ride if they ask. also they want him dead on principle but they have to give him power for whatever he wants It’s Complicated
corruption arc: this one is almost iffy simply in that he's always been very true to his own nature and at no point in the narrative is he ever not giving in to various darknesses; we certainly meet him on the edge of point-of-no-return and he certainly just keeps getting worse but like, he was also already past there to begin with. he's the same emery all along he's not going to get better or not
both self-centred and self-loathing at the same time: mm :) again in the sense that he knows everything that's wrong with him and also doesn't feel like any of it is wrong at all, and at the end of the day is at peace with the truly awful person he is lol
inability to connect with people at an emotional level is a tough one for him also because he's so open and like genuinely into human connection, human interaction, hot-blooded and an on-whim do-gooder/even a bleeding heart. but at the same time he's as detached from all things as any person has ever been on earth (except io) :)
he absolutely is not a political mastermind BUT he keeps getting political achievements by accident/thru genuine coincidence/random acts of charisma/etc. god's favourite boy
mind control just a little bit as a treat.. he hasn't picked up ehen's big useful all-purpose version of it bc aste believes it's more interesting narratively for him not to have it but he does have a little one acquired from varie drowned earth's brides (the seam of the god of despair), specifically a short-term love enchantment enacted with a kiss, it's exactly as cute as it sounds
not giving him sharp humour either even though he would also definitely give it to himself. he's got blunt humour. man's dumb
philosophical dilemma: appropriate to his truly unique position, despite everything.. in many senses he's the only mortal who's ever been qualified to understand jarun, absolute power/absolute alienation/etc...
trauma: once again all related to/coming back to abandonment, fundamentally
god complex: LOL a very casual one that's nonetheless very serious bc of the lvl of power he has to back it up. like he’s not right but also he is literally is.. also he’s not taking it that seriously anyways dw
power-hungry: what he wants he gets, once he gets what he wants he gets bored with it and wants more!
ruthless to the point of borderline sadism: emphasis on the sadism :) he really just is a casual sadist who enjoys a bit of bullying, and if he's in the middle of something he's enjoying he won't stop until he's done (unless he gets bored), its that simple
cares (badly) for maybe 1 living being: giving him this one purely to contemplate a) the way he's always connected to io even in his almost-innate disconnect from the world and that b) the only person whose presence actively cuts thru that disconnect for him is ehen. and he's a man of the world anyways he really is Here, this whole area's hard on him
complicated relationship with death: mechanically rather than thematically (but also thematically).. he's still technically a mortal with a mortal lifespan and ability to die despite his innately incorrect existence-type, but also at the lvl of power he's on it'd be incredibly difficult for him to actually be killed, hours and hours and hours of 3rd moon prison body-training, memory of pain rather than pain itself, etc
wasted join me speech honourable mention here purely in terms of Dynamic With Io! the fact that it's not a speech rather than an overarching sequence of recurring/recursive debates, and also the fact that they understand each other so well that it's not wasted at all :D tfw your morality pet comes with no built-in morals and you both give up together
likes a challenge but only because they know they'll come out on top: once again ending on my fav one lol. emy's a consummate loser who’s incapable of feeling shame but also he'll always, always, always win if it counts at all/if he really wants to, and he's a very mean-spirited winner :)
this is so long tl;dr i am planning their wedding at all times

My thoughts on Ninjago the Island!!! 🏝🏝🏝
So, gotta be honest... this is not a Blind reaction thing, I actually watched it in French first so I know most of the stuff already 😅 It's entertaining, it got great animation, but nothing more than that in my opinion 🤷‍♀️
Still there is stuff I liked or I want to point out, and finally I'm seeing the English version so I can actually understand what the HECK they are saying 🤩
Alright, nothing else to say, here we go!
UNCHARTED
I haven't actually seen anything Clutch Powers related before Ninjago, is he always like this? I love that he is a jerk honestly, just wondering 😂
Press F for respect for intern Dwaine (at least he seems to like being... used?)
Clutch: It's just a bunch of rocks! It's not alive!
Totem: I'm about to end this man's whole career
Wait, Misako is part of the explorers club? ... that would have come in handy in season 11 to get the scroll of Forbitten Spinjitzu from the club instead of begging uncle Powers for it... *sighs* I don't mind plot holes in Ninjago like most fans I think, but if you wanna make Misako relevant again at least pay attention to the details 😅
Wow, after the end of season 13 I would've thought Wu was going to go through a midlife crisis, not Misako 😂😂
Oww, everytime I hear I get 😢 Bless your soul Kirby, always in our hearts 🖤🖤🖤
Well hello Brian
Tumblr media
Always nice to see you 😊
Twitchy Tim must have been pretty interesting to voice 🤔 I like him enough, he's fun and all, maybe not at the level of the characters we got last season
Okay, the place is called the STORM belt, there are LIGHTNINGS, and the sand of the beach is BLUE. Are we gonna address any of these similarities to our Bluebell here or not? 😅
Wait, Tim was giving a hot air balloon tour, does that mean other people where with him? What of them? Are they dead? Did he let them die on the island?... am I reading too much into this? Probably 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Alright, the part of the boats? SO COOL 🤩🤩 I literally can't say anything bad about the animation at this point
Why did they think leaving Kai, Jay and Cole on one boat was going to be a good idea 😂 Also Zane just randomly doing sick tricks on his vehicle, love that nindroid
I'm guessing Nya is keeping her water abilities for her season 🤷‍♀️
Yep, yep, this is why the creators try to keep Pixal out of the adventures, with her everything is way too cool and easy to access to 😎😎
Twitchy Tim: There are statues that become alive!!
Lloyd:... so it's a season 2 stone army ripoff, we've seen worse
It's a cute episode overall 👍
THE KEEPERS OF THE AMULET
OKAY THE INTRO IS SO FREAKING COOL 🤩🤩🤩🤩
So Twitchy Tim has temporarily taken over Jay's role of spazzing out and complain about worse case scenarios... in another occasion they might have bonded over this, maybe 😂
Okay, survival position? MOOD
Nya: DRAGOOON 😱
Me: DRAGOOOOOOON 😍😍😍
Why am I not surprised that Jay was the one that named him Zippy? 💙 Also HE'S SO CUTE 💕💕💕 Love how in every adventure, we always get very different types of dragon in this show 👌 I'm a simple person, I see a dragon... 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Oh-oh, it's the "Lloyd's done with this crap"'s face
Tumblr media
This means serious business... am I that used to LEGO characters that this way of crossing arms on the chest looks almost normal to me? 😅
Soooo, Master of the Mountain clearly gave Cole too much development... because now he got demoted to "the one who is always hungry" 🤦‍♀️ I'm all for Cole's endearing love for cakes, which is super relatable, but if you're gonna push it on his fun side, at least be coherent 🙃
Is it just me or it feels like the writing of this special was made by someone different from the one of season 13? Like, it's not bad, just less engaging and witty. For now. Maybe I'm being premature 🤷‍♀️
New way of nerfing powers, we got... weird, sucking power totem thingies... OKAY
My gosh I really can't say anything about the animation, look at that! It's all cinematic with such a light! YES!! 🤩
I'M SORRY
Tumblr media
WHY ARE WE LOOKING OVER THIS??? IT LOOKS LIKE COLE'S LAVA PUNCHES BUT THEY ARE JAY LIGHTNING FEET??? IT'S A GREAT IDEA AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT AGAIN??? WHY ARE WE IGNORING THIS??? 💙💙💙💙
So they at least addressed that lightning isn't a Jay's thing only anymore 😅
Alright, Jay having a mental breakdown because of a bridge because it always breaks, that's the Bluebell I know and love 😂😂 Nya telling him to keep moving was cute too 💙❤💙❤
Okay, I'm sorry but this really bothers me, what kind of lightning can instantly knock out the MASTER OF LIGHTNING??? Like, my gosh, really??? I hope they give us an explanation, like it's some sort of special lightning, because this really doesn't sit right with me. Jay is lightning proof, we've seen it in Skybound, we've seen it in Sons of Garmadon, I DON'T BELIEVE HE WOULD JUST BE KNOCKED OUT LIKE THAT 😡😡😡
Soooooo, storm amulet? Being one with the lightning? Is that the reason why Jay got to be the sacrifice? 😅
THE GIFT OF JAY
Alright, I am kinda looking forward for this one, what did Bluebell actually say or do to get him into trouble this time 😂😂
Oh, he just... introduced himself... well that was underwhelming
SENSEI👏YOU👏ARE👏A👏FREAKING👏GOD👏STOP👏GETTING👏KIDNAPPED👏BY👏RANDOM👏VILLAINS👏
Bring ooooon Lloyd Grills 💪
Okay I did like the little speech, definitely resonates with how Lloyd survived this long even though everything wanted him to give up, even his father... I'M NOT CRYING YOU'RE CRYING 😭
Jay out there making the real questions 😂
Awwww Edna used to call him gift of Jay? I can totally see it, so cute 💙💙 Makes even more sense if Libber actually left Jay at the Walkers' door...
Pff, Jay made the connection I would've done honestly 🤷‍♀️ Like, him being the master of lightning really didn't give these dudes any impression or inspiration? Any cool idea, full Road of El Dorado style? 🙃🙃
Lloyd out there abusing of the animation budget 💚💚💚
Somehow these ninja never actual sneak in, it's always a huge mess everyone knows about beforehand 😂 It's familiar though, I'm used to it and happy with it 👍
I might not be the biggest Misako fan, but you know what I am a fan of?
Tumblr media
LEGO HUGS 😍😍😍😍😍
Dang it uncle Powers, you just got here to make a mess did you 😅
Not the first person of the fandom to say this, but Jay looks absolutely lovely with that flower crown 🌺🌺🌺
Oh poor greenie
Tumblr media
Lloyd just has the worst luck 😓
Jay: Why would I be the gift?
Kai: Yeah who would want Jay?
Nya: Huh, me?? 😡
Got some very good Jaya for this little special, can't complain 💙❤💙❤
I mean, not matter how big of a snake Wojira might turn out to be, we've already seen the biggest and the second biggest snake of all so 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Whoa, at last... IT WAS THE FIRST SPINJITZU MASTER THAT HAD SOMETHING HE SHOULD'VE TOLD WU A LONG TIME AGO!! 😱 Wu, you got pulled a Wu, how does it feel? 😂
Again, Jay freaking out, kinda my jam it's too funny 💙💙
Wow Kai way to be hominous offscreen 👏👏 I miss talking about my flame babe, this really isn't his time 🤷‍♀️
THE TOOTH OF WOJIRA
So when I first watched this I was genuinely, really excited about knowing the truth behind all this. It turned out very different from what I first thought, but at least in this case it's okay (besides I was pushing with the lightning meaning just to see Libber again 😅😅😅)
I feel like the guys get their powers stolen or blocked so much it takes them a minute to remember "Oh wait I can literally burn my way out" 🤷‍♀️
SPINJITZU YAY 🤩
I... forgot that Misako knows how to fight 😅 She knows how to do spinjitzu too if I remember correctly...
NYA BEING LIKE "OUT OF THE WAY IMMA SAVE MY BOYFRIEND AGAIN" ❤💙❤💙
Gotta love how they were all crazy worried about Jay, like, this is something that never changes through the show. They really care so so much for each other 💕💕💕
Ooohhhh, okay, so Wojira does seem to be the main villain of next season according to the story. I remember Tommy saying that we needed to have faith and this is probably why. The special was okay, nothing too much, and hopefully that too much we will see in Nya's season 😍😍😍
What the- pff, I didn't notice this the first time 😂
Tumblr media
At this point I can't tell if that one short with the chicken of the movie carried a hate or a love for chickens in the actual show 😂😂
Nice to see Jay standing up for himself at least for a little while 💪 Also Lloyd being "He's our trouble", aww family 💜
THERE IT IS
Tumblr media
MY BRUISE HEART IS SOARING 🖤💙🖤💙
Gotta give props to the voice actors, voicing an explanation while fighting must be pretty hard! WE ARE BLESSED WITH AN AMAZING CAST!!! 🤩🤩🤩
And there he is, our favorite jerk... shaved Ronin 😂 He does look a little weird, but it's fair, new animation and all. Not the weirdest until now 🤷‍♀️
I genuinely had to make a mental check to see where we are with Ronin now, like, he started as a villain, then a partner, he betrayed us, became an ally, he hunted the ninja, then joined them, that timeline was erased, he was around in SoG and... wow this man is chaotic 😂😂
Yaaaay, Twitchy's last minute redemption act! Lloyd is too good at motivational speeches 👏👏
A bit of Lava OTP/BrOTP
Tumblr media
Cause it's good for the heart ❤🖤❤🖤
Okay, Scooby doo reference, why not? Also honestly, I'm confident Ronin has seen A LOT of jails and prisons... probably won't stay behind bars for long 😅
Mammatus: sorry for imprisoning you and almost killing your friend
Kai: no biggie, that's how we make friends in this show
Alright the "And Clutch Powers" gag made me chuckle 😂 ... wait where is he- DANG IT UNCLE POWERS
Okay, this is the last time I say it I promise, but I mean. I MEAN
Tumblr media
THE ANIMATION GUYS 😍😍😍
Aaaaand sensei you jinxed it 😅 But you apparently awakened Nya's season so I'm gonna forgive you on this one 😉
FINAL THOUGHTS
There are a few little details that bothered me a little, and it wasn't as exciting as I maybe hoped it was going to be, but it was fine. Enjoyable still. These characters make me like the show, even when it got nothing too impactful 🤷‍♀️
But I got triggered about that lightning thing with Jay 😅 I guess I'll just fanfic whatever I had in mind...
Don't have to repeat myself about the animation *chef's kiss*
The writing was really less engaging, a little normal in a way? Idk just a feeling. Nice to see Ronin again though, I really like him. And nice to see Jay freaking out, I really like that too 😂
To be honest I wanted to put down my thoughts on this one because I REALLY wanna do the same with Nya's season 🤩🤩 I already know that Maya is gonna be there and I am so HAPPY already!!! 💙💙💙
So that's it from me! Thank you for reading me ranting, see you next season! 😊

Sorry to bother you but i am out of the loop. What did Riot do with seraphine?
// @crying-elf-lass // First of all - excellent choice in pfp, Marcille is great.
Now, trying to keep as much bias out of my post as possible... ( though there will be some, and I will miss some things! )
There are three parts to consider. Gameplay, narrative, and niche in the world.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
First, we need to talk about the history of Sona in League of Legends.
Narrative & Niche: Sona, as a champion, has existed for many, many, many years. Her lore was 2 paragraphs and she had no short story. Her canon appearances ( excluding an Odssey short story which I will take about later ) were limited to other champion’s stories ( her adoptive mother, Lestara, helped Quinn to become a ranger-knight, she helped Ryze secure a World Rune in Call of Power ). Several years ago, Riot changed the lore of Demacia ( Sona’s current home ) to be one that denies magic. With the addition of petricite, a magic nullifying material, and several changes in lore, Demacia became the host of several magical problems ( dragons, Evelynn, Nocturne, Fiddlesticks ) and a unit of anti-magic specialists ( mageseekers ).
Throughout that time, up until 2 months ago, Sona’s lore did not receive a single meaningful change or update. This is a period of over 5 years, in which one of Demacia’s only mages / magical creatures ( Poppy, Lux, Sona, Shyvana, and later Sylas ) did not get any sort of answer as to what is happening with her. Several other champions did get an explanation of sorts, with some manner of handwaiving - for example, minotaurs are part of the Demacian army, so magical creatures are not out and out excluded. Yordles are known to be seen differently by different people, so Poppy’s existence is also possible to explain ( we learned this with an interaction between Ziggs and Jinx in Zaun ).
This left Sona writers in a general state of confusion. Is Sona in jail? Is Sona a registered mage? Not to mention that Sona left Ionia ( where a war between Noxus and Ionia occurred ) and the timing of that was unspecified.
Which led to a giant gap in terms of “what is this champion doing and what is her situation”. And each of us tried to fill that gap in our own ways. Some of us had Sona leave Demacia, some had her retreat into her mansion and play less music, some had her be defiant, and so on. Because the last thing we learned was that she was in Ionia, helping Ryze with the World Rune, some people put her in Ionia semi-permanently.
And we also had to contend with the existence of Sylas, who flipped Demacia on its head and caused something of a mage hunt. The finer details of that I exclude, it’s enough to say that certain mages were rounded up and put in prison where once they were exiled, and Lux helped some magically inclined individuals escape. There’s a nuanced conflict there between several members of Demacia ( Garen, Jarvan, Lux, Xin Zhao, Tianna, etc ) but getting into that is not the point of this.
We still didn’t know anything about Sona. So Sona writers and players and enthusiasts tried their very best to fill in the gap with what we did know, often incidentally. We did know that Sona was once in Ionia, that the Ionia-Noxus war happened, that she moved to Demacia, and that she is a famous musician with a magical instrument. Prior to the removal of the Institute of War ( a part of lore which said that ‘summoners’ were real and nations used Summoners + Champions to settle conflicts ), Sona was known globally and was basically Runeterra’s #1 musician when it comes to the etwahl, perhaps more. We also know that Sona is an extremely empathetic person, and her music is borderline spellbinding, to the point where it was easy to guess that she could affect people’s emotions and was an empath. None of that was out and out confirmed, but it was easy to make that logical conclusion.
Very recently, Sona’s lore changed. In it, a lot changed. We learned that she left Ionia with others, rather than just alone and with her etwahl, and it was to escape the Ionia conflict ( not because Lestara, her adoptive mother, wished to possess the fabled etwahl ). Essentially, this new lore painted Sona far more as a war refugee, and painted Lestara in a far better light as well. Along with this lore update/rework, we also got a short story ( that still left what she’s doing now up in the air!)
However, this came after a several year wait. And in that time, Sona enthusiasts had no choice but to come up with answers to all their burning questions by themselves. One Sona writer followed the ‘Sona is the aspect of harmony’ track, another followed the ‘music as a means of community togetherness’ track, another put her as an oversensitive empath who uses music to heal the pain of her people - and we all tend to agree on one point - Sona is an extremely empathetic person who uses her music for the good of others.
And as we waited, several other champions appeared, some of them overlapping with Sona’s music theme. Bard, the wanderer who listens to the songs of creation itself. Jhin, the murderous theater performer and assassin who believes the world his stage. Rakan, the battle dancer who uses the songs and rhythms of people to fight and move before they do. And Sona’s niche, what was unique about her, grew smaller and smaller.
Finally, we had something that felt unique about Sona.
Gameplay & Design:
Sona as a champion has existed a very long time... And is the aura and music champion. Her q does some damage, her w shields and heals ( and reduces damage with her passive ), and her e speeds people up ( and slows with her passive ), while her r is a rectangular ult wave - thinner than Nami’s, but still relatively wide. The kit as a whole is pretty simple, but it has a history.
Sona players are... innovators. They like to do things like buy Kirchei’s shard because it’s most efficient, or take Sona mid, top, jungle, and adc. And over the last two years, Sona has received nerf after nerf after nerf saying, “No, stay in the support role”. You can still pull off certain lanes, but it’s extremely difficult because her aura abilities give you mana back if you tag an ally... making them difficult to use in a solo lane, or to roam alone.
Also, as one of the older crew of champions ( pre Jinx when Riot started using other body types for women ), her figure is... well, she’s got an hourglass figure, and her dress does not hide her breasts much at all. And it’d been like this for ages and ages, which meant that in League’s toxic culture, being a Sona one-trick led to a variety of hateful comments which I won’t repeat here.
Sona has a history of being treated like either an overpowered support or a terrible one, in part because she lacks any form of CC before 6 ( barring her e chord passive ).
So if you’re a Sona enthusiast, a big part of you wants Sona to have agency and not just be a pretty face damsel in distress. Even I, who have a second blog where I write Sona as an extremely soft character, don’t have her be a damsel in that interpretation of her. This is made worse by the community and a lot of art that ships her with men who treat her badly, along with an endless slew of adult images that degrade her, and often make fun of her disability - that she can’t speak. It’s sad and it’s degrading. And even within the last few years, she was written in a story in the Odyssey skin line...  as a prize for Kayn to take. That is an official Riot story which essentially treated her like a prize to capture for Kayn’s own goals - not as a person, but as a carrier of a key, as an object, and she lacked agency. Thankfully over the last few years, Riot has started giving women more agency, but... it’s been a problem for a long time.
Recently, along with the lore rework, we got Sona in a skin that makes her look and feel like a badass - PsyOps, her legendary skin. She breaks free of her confines and rages against those in her way in a very Syndra-like fashion, uncaged. And this was very cool.
And now, we have Sona where she is now.
---------------------------------------------------
Seraphine as a champion has recently been revealed, along with her abilities and lore.
Narrative & Niche:
Seraphine’s lore is essentially this.
She, born of Zaunite parents, went up to Piltover. She was able to hear the souls and songs of people ( magical empath ) and hoped to unite those around her with her music. Then, she went down to Zaun, a city full of impoverished and disenfranchised peoples, to try and do the same thing.
In other words, “This champion uses music as a means of bringing people together. She aims to aid the disenfranchised.” There is nuance there, and it’s not the exact same as Sona, but the similarity is striking.
Furthermore, several key points in her lore are things that Sona writers have already imagined for themselves. A hypersensitivity to others, for example. Having such a strong sense of hearing that she can hear things others can’t. Sona is known to be able to essentially echolocate ( or at least, she had been known to do so in her older lore ).
I will admit that the idea of ‘hypersensitive hearing or empathy’ is not the sole domain of Sona writers. Athena Cykes of Ace Attorney has a similar problem ( as revealed in her backstory ). And similarly, she wore a special device to help her filter that out. It’s not a completely unique idea, but again - the problem is striking. Sona, a highly sensitive and empathetic person, was often interpreted to be too sensitive to others. And now it’s on Seraphine, in her lore.
Seraphine’s whole lore is that she’s essentially an extremely popular and famous musician who brings people together with music... and that’s what Sona was.
She was all those things.
So to some people ( myself included ) it feels as though Riot has reworked Sona’s lore so they can give some of the overlap to Seraphine. Empathy / soul-seeing ( a Morgana, Kayle, Neeko, and Sona special... ) and the whole music thing...
And this is leading people to say, repeatedly, “This is just Sona 2.0.”
For Sona enthusiasts who have been waiting for Sona to get content or lore for years and years, this feels like a slap in the face.
Gameplay & Design:
Seraphine’s abilities are as follows.
When she uses 3 abilities, her next ability is empowered with additional effects ( essentially repeating ). Her q does damage ( based on missing health ) and is a skillshot, her w shields and speeds up people ( and heals herself if she’s already shielded ), and her e slows people ( and roots if they’re already slowed ), while her R is a rectangular ult that charms those hit and makes them walk towards her briefly.
That’s really similar to Sona.
When Sona uses 3 abilities, her next auto-attack is empowered with additional effects. Her q does damage. Her w shields and heals people ( and reduces damage output from an enemy if her passive is up). And her e speeds allies up ( and slows an enemy if her passive is up ). And her R is a rectangular ult that stuns those hit and makes them dance in place.
The similarity is striking. Seraphine does lack the ability to heal allies ( on first glance, I may have misread ), but she looks extremely similar to Sona... which is a frustration.
This year, we got Yone, Yasuo’s brother. And the reasoning behind this, when most other champions are written to give unique inputs/outputs, is that this is an alternative choice for Yasuo players when Yasuo is banned and will improve game health.
However, I suspect the same logic does not hold for Sona and Seraphine. Sona is in a class of enchanters, where several champions can do things similar to what she does already ( with some differences, of course! ). If you can’t play Sona, you can play Karma, you can play Taric, etc - not the same, but similar. It’s my suspicion that with the introduction of Seraphine, we will instead have the problem of Akali/Diana several years ago - these champions are so similar that whichever one is stronger will be played while the other one will be ignored completely.
Furthermore, Seraphine got a lot of attention. A lot of attention. She has a fake twitter account.
And she is releasing with two skins, one of which is an ultimate. Release. For Sona players who only just got their legendary ( with the understanding that DJ Sona exists ), this feels like a slap in the face. It’s easy to feel overshadowed, and as much of the community is saying right now, this is ‘Sona 2.0′
Now some people are saying, ‘maybe Sona gets reworked’, but that will not be a great answer. If you like playing Sona’s current playstyle, swapping to Seraphine because Riot changed Sona completely will be alienating, and only exacerbate the feeling that Seraphine is replacing and overshadowing Sona.
But it gets a little worse than that too. Seraphine is designed for mid/support, to be played in both lanes. However, Sona enthusiasts have received nerf after nerf to Sona in other lanes, which only makes this hit that much harder. There’s a theory that Seraphine’s kit is essentially a scrapped Sona rework kit. If Seraphine’s build is the same as Sona’s, it will be... tragic. It will be disappointing...
And it’s already exhausting.
Neither Sona nor Seraphine enthusiasts are without the metaphorical gutpunch, and this is likely to divide the community even further. And heaven forbid you like both.
For Sona enthusiasts, this is a slap in the face. Our favorite champion being overshadowed and overhyped by another who gets so much on release, when we’ve longed for content for years is hurtful.
For Seraphine enthusiasts, this is a punch in the gut, for seeing their champion essentially be treated like a clone of another is unkind. Any nuance or effort put into Seraphine will be drowned underneath ‘Sona 2.0′. And the overlap between both champions and their respective abilities and character traits will wear anyone out.
And that’s not fair to anyone.
( Disclaimer: I wasn’t able to stay 100% unbiased, but if you read all of that, thank you. )

okay okay i’ve watched the episode again and i have thoughts. they’re under the cut below since i can’t post original stuff without like a million personals finding my blog
note these are not in order, so pls watch the episode fully before you read
sebastian goddamn stan deserves a goddamn oscar nomination already. i felt more emotion dripping from that scene in wakanda than i’ve ever felt in my goddamn life. his sadness, his fury, his confusion, his rage and his pain. the way he’s convinced that he’s gonna hurt ayo or do something terrible and then the immediate relief he felt afterwards? the confusion at it though, he’s free but now what? he’s free to do what? seb, you are one of the most talented underrated actors right now and honestly watching that scene was incredible. the man’s ability to portray so many emotions and really make you feel with single looks is just... it’s something else. holy moses.
also thank you for showing us how skilled bucky is, like speaking Xhosa? yes. he would have learnt that during his time in wakanda and he must have picked it up FAST
z*mo is a bitch and i hate him. no seriously. guy is a n*zi in the comics, just because he did a couple of dad moves doesn’t redeem him for what he’s done
sam standing up for bucky against z*mo is just excellent. z*mo saying all super soldiers have to be eliminated and sam asking “what about bucky?” because sam knows bucky didn’t have a choice in the matter.
sam is also talking to sharon. keeping her in the loop.
as for the power broker... i honestly don’t think we’ll get a reveal on who he is. i personally believe it’s another computer that z*la downloaded himself onto ( it would explain how the powerbroker is so well connected and can text karli ) or it’s general ross ----- who back in the incredible hulk pushed for the super soldier serum to be made. i think it’s much more likely to be z*la but i’m curious to see where it goes. again, i think the power broker is going to be a slow reveal. we might not even get an idea of who he is until the armor wars movie.
karli using sarah as bargaining against sam was cold and cruel
again, highlighting that bucky is massively talented and skilled, that he actually holds back a lot when he’s fighting and he can actually run and jump and move at incredible speeds. very good. i also think it’s interesting to point out that bucky didn’t get the “true” version of the serum. so people saying he’s nerfed against other super soldiers can shut up. these guys got pure unfiltered serum. bucky got a botched version.
sam using his counselling to try and talk karli down? heck he was getting somewhere as well and fucking w*lker turns up
i knew... i knew w*lker was going to do something stupid like take the serum. i knew that it was gonna send him into a blind rage i knew it was going to make things bad.
killing battlestar? that was... i mean i was expecting something like that to be the catalyst behind w*lkers rage. but i’m still a little disappointed that even in a racially charged piece of media, the black character gets killed. maybe that was the intention, maybe it was there to highlight, it’s not for me to say, but it made me feel uncomfortable.
the dora milaje can get it. and will ayo accept my hand in marriage please and thank you.
bucky shouting “looking good john” whilst w*lker is fighting ayo is one of the funniest things i’ve ever seen in my life then him asking ayo to talk about this?
okay over the last like 10 days all i’ve seen is like people laughing that bucky can remove his arm. i am glad finally that it proved something that only wakandans with knowledge about this technology can remove it. bucky can’t slip it on and off like a fucking glove. every tiktok i saw talking about it made me groan internally
also, bucky’s anger is so justified. like z*mo is using leverage against him, and he’s pissed as hell because the wakandans have done nothing but help and save him and he promised them he’d give them z*mo and he can’t do that till z*mo gives him the information. bucky’s anger is rightfully justified and z*mo is pushing him over the edge. it’s heartbreaking to watch.
the ending was... it was... oh god. it was extremely gory and i’m surprised that the house of mouse allowed the writers to push the show that dark. whether you like it or not, that shield is sold to thousands of kids across the world, it’s on toys, lunchboxes, folders, pencil cases. to soak the symbol like that with the blood of... okay he maybe wasn’t necessarily innocent, but he wasn’t exactly guilty either is... extremely hard-hitting. like extremely hard hitting.
i noted that after w*lker took the serum i heard traces of orchestra playing the same low mechanical tune that they use to introduce the winter soldier theme. now, this might be a coincidence given that h*nry j*ckman is the music producer, but also because h*nry j*ckman is the music producer i’m inclined to think it’s not. w*lker for better or for worse is a tool used by the US government. he is the antithesis of what bucky was to hydra. the perfect soldier. the perfect weapon. whereas steve broke away from that the second he got the serum, it seems w*lker is falling down the path that bucky was put on.
i genuinely think that bucky is going to have to fight w*lker because no one else is strong enough.
sharon is around but not in the episode nearly enough. i wanted more. i’m glad though she’s being the coolest spy ever. i’m hoping we get more interactions with her sam and bucky next episode.
the shot at the end where everyone is crowding around w*lker? bucky and sam looking on? that was... haunting.

Kwami Buster reaction/analysis please!!!
You got it!
This episode is fun. Like, it’s a lot of fun. It feels like it’s been a while since I just had fun with an episode (I know this season doesn’t have a wide range to choose from there - probably still going to die when attempting to pick a top 5 - but still).
[Kwamitruster]
Just to start off, I’m legitimately surprised that it took this long to get a Ms. Mendeleiev akumatization. On the very small list of people I’ve been waiting to see akumatized, Ms. Mendeleiev has been on it since Season 1 and it’s almost weird that it took this much time considering that she’s basically the school’s only other notable teacher.
Of course, with kwami being what she was seeking before being akumatized… yeah, definitely makes sense for a season 3 episode.
I also enjoy that Ms. Mendeleiev is a bit hammy as Kwamibuster even though I question why in the world she’d go on a show like that to get an important theory out there; maybe she was just that desperate and they were the only ones who’d have her, who knows.
Kwamibuster also almost killed Alec so, y’know, that was great too.
AND MORE TIKKI AND PLAGG INTERACTIONS, YES.
I know we got some in episodes like “Sandboy” and “Reflekdoll”, but this is the prime Tikki-Plagg episode (which… yeah, granted, makes total sense considering kwami is in the darn title). It’s a little more of the same we’ve already seen, with Tikki just being like ugh Plagg why, but this expands on it a bit and has them meeting multiple times and also on Marinette’s balcony, which is nice.
And Marinette isn’t the one blamed for stuff this time, finally–
LIKE, REALLY, LEMME JUST SAY: it was so satisfying to see Marinette stay mad at Tikki for a bit (I was upset too when she tried to brush it off as “kwami nonsense” like excuse me???), and especially for Tikki to actually apologize in the end.
I do wish there was a little more on Plagg, but he does get berated a lot already so it was probably not even worth mentioning after the fact.
By the way, I choked with laughter as Adrien tried to scold SOMEONE ELSE for being irresponsible and almost getting captured. Dude, have you LOOKED in a mirror lately?
I guess the conflict concerning Tikki though is more about how believable it is that Tikki would do this sort of thing. It’s already one character flaw that Tikki seemed to have a hard time admitting that she made a mistake, but for Marinette to basically tell Tikki about how much she trusts Tikki and how she can be herself around Tikki, just for Tikki to not even look immediately guilty…
Yeah, that’s… not Tikki’s best moment there. I really think that Marinette bit wasn’t needed and made Tikki look worse than she needed to.
And speaking of Marinette–
[Mari-Net Result]
THE MIRACULOUS QUEEN HAS ARRIVED AND WE HAVE BEEN GRACED WITH HER PRESENCE.
So, not only does this episode have great Plagg-Tikki interactions, but it’s also Marinette doing one of the many things that Marinette does best. Before she’s even left Fu’s home, she’s already got her entire plan figured out to the last detail, and all we’re told about is her intending to let herself get captured, so we’re just left to guess until we see everything unfold.
And what a great bonus it was to see her wearing so many miraculouses at once. I always feel particularly spoiled when we get to see the design of various miraculouses (like how Adrien’s snake miraculous is really smooth and rounded while Luka’s has little ridges on them, then Marinette’s has a snake-inspired design that looks different enough from the miraculous itself).
(also, side-note: considering how different most of those miraculouses look on Marinette, I’m pretty sure the fox was intentionally similar to the original because she had to transform with it, so it had to be recognizable enough to the viewing audience; I imagine it might look different if she ever has the chance to use just the fox, but that’ll probably never happen)
Plus, there’s just something inherently perfect about the girl who can have 2928374 tasks at any given time using a miraculous that has the power to divide yourself so you can accomplish multiple tasks.
She should honestly keep it just for personal use.
And basically all of the miraculouses are very Marinette, like the ram miraculous becoming bows (is that a reference to that one 3D model of hers with the single bow? I hope so) and most of the miraculouses getting a pink/rose-gold color to them.
…She also looks so silly yet somehow so precious wearing them, of course.
Anarka would be proud, just sayin’. Have you SEEN all the accessories that woman wears?
…Actually, imagine Anarka with all the miraculouses. Like, don’t even take off the jewelry she already wears.
…I’m getting off-topic.
I think it’s interesting that Wayzz seems to have a lot of faith in Marinette compared to Master Fu. I mean, it makes total sense given “Feast”, which showed that Wayzz thinks things through a lot more than Fu, and… I don’t know. It’s just really sweet to see Wayzz believing in Marinette so strongly, and I already like Wayzz in general so it warmed my heart.
By the way, just a quick hooray for Multifox too, who is USING MIRAGE LIKE IT SHOULD BE USED; WHEN YOU’RE HIDDEN AWAY AND NO ONE CAN SEE YOU.
And… yeah, I know that we should probably see more instances of her being exhausted from using multiple miraculouses. I do think that her falling down before she’s even left the house set some expectations, and most other instances are either implied (i.e: the icons for the kwami starting to become more and more shattered the more she unifies) or is just Multifox slowly stepping out, hunched over and looking tired (which did at least make sense since she was the one unified the longest). She does get carried by the kwami throughout most of the episode so I’m not really that bothered about it, even with Fu and Wayzz talking about how special she is (this is always what I mean when I say that her crush on Adrien and her anxiety/clumsiness are massive nerfs that she needs; this girl would destroy the world otherwise).
But, of course, I can’t talk about Marinette wearing all these miraculouses and having this big plan and all these other things without talking about why she’s doing these things.
[Mousetrap]
Alright, everyone knew I couldn’t gush for long forever. Let’s get this over with.
The main thing that brings this episode down - and brings it down hard - is the identity shenanigans. Identity stuff has always been a sore spot in the fandom and this episode keeps poking and prodding at that spot like they’re trying to win an award for it.
It’s this whole thing about “giving up your miraculous” if you find out someone’s identity.
Marinette points it out to Tikki.
Plagg mentions it to Adrien.
Fu implies it to Marinette.
And then Tikki brings it up to Marinette.
Four instances in one episode. One would’ve already been distracting enough but this is four. Like, that’s already dumb, but the logic behind it makes no sense.
First off, the obvious: Ladybug and Chat Noir have been doing this for three seasons. I presume that Marinette would’ve just continued her guardian training had she found out Adrien was Chat, but still, she’s been Ladybug for a long while now and she’s good at it.
It just seems like the show only brought it up to make a point about why Marinette and Adrien specifically can’t know each other’s identities, but having it be mentioned four times and leaving so many holes just has it looking like a desperate attempt. Being so quick in an episode to essentially say, “Hey! If this one thing happens, prepare for two and a half seasons of content to suddenly mean a lot less!” was undeniably going to make people upset (think “Weredad”, but for identities instead of romance).
Secondly, yes, in a theoretical sense, someone figuring out someone’s identity may very well mean that they purposefully tried to figure out their identity, so they should get their miraculous revoked, but that is not such a simple case.
Let’s say that Chat just de-transformed in front of Ladybug. That would technically qualify since now Ladybug knows his identity, so should she get her miraculous revoked because someone else revealed themself and she couldn’t have controlled that?
Not only that, but it was Plagg’s fault that this happened and it’s hard to not let one’s mind wander. It’s not either Adrien nor Marinette’s fault if they’d accidentally figured each other out; it would be Plagg’s.
Thirdly, I am baffled at the idea that figuring out someone’s identity means that the person who figured it out gets their miraculous revoked. That just seems like a recipe for disaster, especially when the rule for temporary heroes (we’ll get to that, by the way) is that one can’t have the miraculous back if anyone else knows their identities.
Getting a miraculous revoked risks akumatization from the negative emotions that would stir up, and that akumatized person could very well just tell Hawk Moth about the identity of the hero they’d figured out, then everything is ruined, just like that.
And no, it’s not fair for, say, Marinette’s miraculous to get revoked because Adrien - hypothetically - went out of his way to discover her identity, but that’s the logical path to take if one is going to pull this “identity reveal = miraculous revoked” card.
Plus, if miraculouses were all about being fair, Chloe never would’ve gotten hers back.
The idea behind protecting one’s identity has always been about “protecting loved ones” or whatever, but then this episode comes along and takes the opposite stance, which is just confusing. It’s as if the rules apply differently just because one has a permanent miraculous, like, “oh, your loved ones would be in danger if they knew, but you won’t get your miraculous taken unless you figure out another hero’s identity.”
…Now, that said, even though that identity thing bothers me in the episode, the identity thing that doesn’t bother me here is when “Ladybug” tells “Marinette” that she can’t get the mouse miraculous back because Chat saw her.
The reason it doesn’t is because it’s not important for us as an audience to believe that Marinette wouldn’t be allowed to have the miraculous back. We already know that Marinette is Ladybug so she can’t really get the mouse back unless there are very specific circumstances involved.
The important thing is for Chat to believe that Marinette can’t get the mouse back and also that Marinette is not Ladybug.
Chat doesn’t know that Rena Rouge and Carapace know each other’s identities.
Max couldn’t have gone into the next room had he not been given the horse.
Chat can’t bring up Viperion without revealing that he’s Adrien (and Ladybug doesn’t know he’s Adrien either, nor is expecting him to be Chat, so she couldn’t make that connection). Not only that, but Adrien didn’t technically see Luka transform into Viperion, so plausible deniability there.
Ryuko hasn’t even happened yet because Fu isn’t on the run yet in “Kwamibuster.”
In addition, “Party Crasher” hasn’t happened (Fu is on the run then) so Chat hasn’t seen Viperion nor Pegase return as heroes. A hero being picked once doesn’t mean that they’ll be picked again, and Fu could’ve just said, “oh, I picked these heroes and it was an emergency.”
Also, it wasn’t just Chat who was there. Ms. Mendeleiev was there as well, and she’d just tried to out the existence of kwami. It was absolutely a mistake on the storyboarders’ parts to not show Mendeleiev being there as well until Mendeleiev approaches Chat, but she was indeed there and she would’ve seen Multimouse de-transform into Marinette as well.
It was also absolutely in-character for Marinette to have this big elaborate plan to clear her as Ladybug whereas Adrien was just like, “um–elementary school?” (he did actually call it a high school earlier but meh, details), so that was a bonus.
But… yeah, no, the episode is definitely not perfect. I mean, just off the top of my head:
- The show Ms. Mendeleiev is on is only fun because of the students’ reactions to it. I didn’t laugh at all otherwise.
- Marinette and Adrien do a similar ramble-y thing back to back which was already done in “Frozer” and I still don’t like it.
- I legitimately don’t know how to feel about Adrien only presuming that Marinette is Ladybug because of what he saw and not because he sees similarities between them. I mean, in a way, I’m glad I get to pile on more evidence to the “Desperada” stuff that was already there but this kid has like, no reaction to the idea that one of his friends is Ladybug. I’m not surprised exactly, but… I’m confused?
- Still going off of Adrien, Chat INTERRUPTS THE BATTLE TO TALK WHICH DISTRACTS LADYBUG ENOUGH FOR HER TO GET SHOT–I mean, like, Adrien/Chat is MOSTLY tolerable in this episode (”Awesome plan, girls!” was nice to hear) but I’d be lying if I said that moment didn’t grate a little on me. Save your internal struggle for patrol, Chat.
- Multimouse’s transformation track is AWESOME but the fact that she holds her pose while the background is still moving at the end looks strange to me when basically all other transformations have the pose and background freeze at almost the exact same time.
- Multimouse’s mask breaks in the model multiple times throughout the episode and it’s really distracting. Also, judging by the shot with Adrien giving Multimouse the ring, I think they shrunk the ring just slightly to fit around her waist, so her model size can sometimes be inconsistent.
- I want to know more about how Multitude works. Like, the dividing of it makes total sense, but can Marinette pick the size she wants? She divides into basically exactly enough Marinette to fit into the kwami mouths, and the fact that she’s the perfect size for it seems too convenient unless there’s a height limit based on how many multiples she has but she can go smaller if she wants. Does the division start at the height of her glowing white legs, so no Multimouse divided could be taller than that, and that’s why the division doesn’t seem to be based on her full height?? I NEED ANSWERS!!!
- I–I just… can we talk about “the mouth thing” in this show? I don’t want to say the cursed “v” word but with Gigantitan almost eating people and the actual POV shots for it, and now Multimouse riding in multiple kwami mouths (additional mention to that gross thing the Astruc head did in “The Puppeteer 2″), I’m just really weirded out, man! Like, can we not????
- I’m still mildly confused about how unifying and dividing works. I mean, unifying, not so much, since it seems like a very basic, “say the name of the new kwami and then the kwami you’re already transformed with, then unify”, but dividing is still weird. Like, after some thought, the best I can muster is that you say the name of the kwami you’re transformed with, then the kwami you’re taking away (as seen in, “Mullo, Trixx, divide!” and, “Mullo, Plagg, divide!”), unless you have to take away the kwami you’re transformed with, in which case you only say their name (”Mullo, divide!” and she becomes Ladybug instead of Multimouse). I feel like just saying the name of the kwami you want taken away should be enough and also be not as confusing, because I keep thinking that it’s an error (ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY SAY “TOPPO” AND NOT “MULLO” AND THEN DON’T EVEN GET THE KWAMI RIGHT WITH THE ICON USED FOR THEM).
- We didn’t see much of Mullo because the episode wastes so much time on characters talking. We see Mullo once when Ladybug divides them and then again when all the kwami are flying off with her, but that’s it. I presume they’re saving Mullo for the “official” mouse holder but still, just a line from Mullo would’ve been nice.
Ultimately, I think how one views the episode really depends on how much they’re taken by plot and lore. If one likes it for flavor, I think they’ll find the episode to be fun, but if details are important, I think it’ll be a little more frustrating.
For me personally, I can just edit out the identity mentions tune out the stuff that bothers me, because the main part of this episode that I focus on is the fun of Tikki-Plagg shenanigans and BLESSED QUEEN MININETTE.
It has a lot of flaws (I mean, I just went on for a good while about things that were probably nitpicks but still noticeable on first viewing), but… I dunno.
I like it. I think an episode like “Startain” is technically better put together plot-wise and has fewer things to complain about, but I like “Kwamibuster” more because it’s more fun overall.
