Roberta's operator record..........(kind of a summary ig
Tumblr media
what if your fellow make-up artist bestie had the skills to work on soulless but well-paying blockbusters but refuses because only the B-horror flicks the both of you used to watch together and enjoy are the only type of flicks she wants to work on but the splatter movies just keep flopping so she had to resort to using cheaper paints and materials that ultimately killed her by chronic poisoning and you feel so guilty because you could/should have stopped her from going down this path but somewhere inside yourself you agreed with her ideals and left her to her own devices but also evidently her own ruin and now all the makeup skills in the world cannot bring her back to life unlike the zombies in the movies and you ask if you can do the remaining mortuary makeup before the cremation but anguish last minute over to keep it because you felt it would be insulting to kind of cover up her suffering under the makeup after she lived her life in true yolo fashion but you relent and leave it be because at that moment you decide to quit being a makeup artist and be a mortician just temporarily to send her off with a smile fake or not
anyway this line sheesh
"I'll never stop. I'll never compromise-- I'll do what I love most every day of my life, even if it only makes me miserable."
ohh her dead friend just like me fr wait that's not g

Harrow the Ninth Reaction - Chapter 6
even immortal Lyctors have to deal with work meetings, no wonder she’s pissed off if she’s been dealing with Teams meetings for ten thousand years straight
this is Mercymorn! she doesn’t seem very impressed by Ianthe or Harrow. ‘sacred hand’ isn’t too bad, but if my job title was ‘holy thumb’ i think i’d quit
ooh i didn’t connect it before, but Harrow wrote a letter for if her eyes changed - and thats specifically a sign of becoming a Lyctor!
i mean Harrow is relatively young, but i feel like to someone ten thousand years old anyones gonna feel like a baby after a while. also imagine Mercy's reaction if Isaac had managed to become a Lyctor lol
Mercymorn reminds Ianthe of her mother? wow i don’t think i want to meet Mrs Tridentarius
ok, so the Erebos isn’t actually his seat like i had assumed, thats somewhere else
‘his close personal interest in this war’ well yeah he’s the Emperor i would hope he's invested in it
the Emperor hugging Mercymorn and her freezing up - feels like theres an interesting dynamic there
‘I know exactly who is behind this terrible blow’ great! if you could give some handy exposition so the reader could also know, that would be brilliant
the last person Harrow called ‘teacher’ turned out to be a vengeful ghost, so this doesn’t feel great
did he just resurrect that random Cohort member??
the Body looking at the Emperor … it just occurred to me that she might not just be a hallucination of Harrow, but maybe she made some kind of actual mental connection with the Locked Tomb body
oooh the drama between Mercy & Augustine, now i want a Lyctor soap opera
we know that Harrow told herself via letter to never give up the sword, but i think its interesting that the Emperor is letting her keep it
ok so all the water & magma metaphors are an explanation for how they’re able to travel so far in such a short space of time - kind of like Star Wars hyperspace travel, except actually given an explanation lol
‘voyaging nervously into the chamber of another person’s brain’ another person, not specifically Ortus here, hmm

i’m gonna make a post and hope people aren’t like. mad at me for it. but izzy did not only love blackbeard, the facade edward put on. izzy on his deathbed confirmed to us that he was aware blackbeard was an illusion. and he was aware that ed was not that man. he was in love with edward. it’s implied izzy knew edward before blackbeard existed. because he helped create the illusion.
izzy did not do great things to edward (putting it lightly, he actively did verbally wound edward and provoke him to throw back up his metaphorical walls) he thought that the best he could get from edward, like any pirate, was to be of use to edward. to help maintain blackbeard because that was the only way he could keep edward’s attention, that he could stay close to edward. he didn’t consider retirement because for people like them, retirement is death. there’s a lot that went into his motivations.
when he realized that with stede, edward was more open and available than ever, he didn’t know how much edward shared with stede, he at first must have assumed ed was luring stede into a false sense of security to kill him, as was his stated plan.
(theres a lot here abt how ed probably didnt open up to izzy as much because of their past, izzy knew a lot of the worst things ed had done, izzy knew that he was essentially ed’s weapon and protection, izzy was a pirate like ed and the ed of pre-stede was somewhere around izzys temperment towards sentimentality —[ignoring for the moment that izzy is the mooost sentimental pirate]— ‘love of a pet makes a man weak’ blackbeard era type stuff. ed didnt open up to izzy in those ways, he did with other things ‘do you see this izzy, he’s amazing, look at all this amazing stuff, can’t believe i was living like this, can you, iz?’ and i’m sure as first mate izzy has had to clean up after ed when he’s in a vulnerable state after drinking or drug use because he doesn’t want anyone else to see ed like that. but that’s besides the point)
con said he played it like izzy was losing his only, closest friend to a group of cooler people. and then in s2 we get confirmation that he needed to accept that this was going to happen and that once he realized stede was good for ed, stede wasn’t a threat to his friendship with ed, or even if he was, that izzy didn’t mind anymore, or would do his best to put it behind him to continue his stated goal of keeping edward content.
now that izzy knows that stede won’t die and make ed miserable, that he can hold his own, izzy is satisfied.
when izzy was dying, he didn’t call for blackbeard, he called for his eddie. the man he’s loved all along. the man he maintained the illusion of blackbeard with solely to stay closer to him.

where does charles go from here?
from twitter, on where charles' character might go now that hes past the pacifism + has been goring mfs, but has also not endeared himself to mutantkind/krakoa by forcing them into their own personal exodus story.
it makes sense that many ppl struggle to imagine futures for charles. by his own design, "professor x" is not really a Person but an Image, and a Position that can't exist independently of the x-men or similar power structures that position him as a leader, father, or elder
this is because the x-men, while obviously created for MANY reasons, were created in part as an extension of himself, his anxieties, + his dreams for himself and the world. x-men (the series) has become a narrative where x-men (the team) is redundant. in this new status quo, charles shared power with many others but maintained proximity to his old role as a leader/father/elder. from professor x of the xmen to xavier of krakoa. now even krakoa has deteroriated despite charles relinquishing power to save it. on top of this he's made a massive mistake that has definitely not endeared him to his ppl (whether they actually believe him to be at fault is besides the point, there will be distrust regardless) no x-men, no krakoa, no professor x, no xavier.
professor x has consumed (or simply obscured) charles' personhood for most of his history. how many people actually know who he is, when he's not "professor", when he's not "xavier". how many people is he just "charles" to? for all its issues, the 2000s/post-deadly genesis era — the shattering of The Image Of Professor X — gifted us quite a bit of Charles Xavier As Just Some Guy stories. its not surprising that he was killed off in AvX — some writers couldn't see what there even IS beyond the facade and that mirrors many readers now! it's why so many people say "idk, kill him?" in response to this type of question, or are otherwise generally more stumped about his future than they are with other characters that have evolved in new ways.
and they're kind of right. there really isn't anywhere for "Professor X" to go from here — not without the regression of the current narrative as a whole. if krakoa, or the spirit of krakoa, is to continue, this is where Professor X ends and Charles Xavier starts (or restarts?) so What Does That Even Mean. condensed, i think that's charles going off on a journey + (metaphorically or otherwise) figuring out who he is, outside of the person he's pretended to be or forced himself to be. like whatever was ultimately scrapped in 2017:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
theres a few points of reference for what that might look like in action…these panels are relevant as is all of excalibur 2004 (helping victimized mutants in a hands-on, on-the-ground way, working in a decentralized group, explicitly forgoing previous tactics + behaviors).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also x-men: legacy — generally the whole running around being chased by his own sins hanging out with characters you wouldn't think he'd mesh with but are exactly the type of people who'd challenge him in an interesting way also…theres no way forward for professor x WITHOUT regression…if we end up in the bad end ("back to the school") (I REBUKE IT) its possible he'd be taken "back to basics" in the sense that he just becomes Classic Professor X. best case scenario hes a prof but not a headmaster anyway we're definitely heading in the direction of charles "the good shepherd" xavier considering this synopsis that i THINK is saying he's going to investigate muir island? theres a typo somewhere there
X MY HEART! Xavier swore he would stay on Krakoa and defend its memory. He's leaving. There must be a good reason to leave one doomed island for another - and the dark secrets that await beneath Muir Island. Meanwhile, something is very wrong with Jean…or is it something very right?
envisioning him heading there on a speedboat like he's in an action movie idk 😭

idk if louis decided he was gonna ditch lestat, grace might've accepted him back although the freaky non-aging yeah by that point would've been an issue but i guess psychologically for louis with her around, there was still some hope that he could get out? but once she's gone its like that door is fully closed in his mind too
do recall tho that grace and louis never rly contact eachother after a certain point. louis is too into in his own vampy family, and likewise grace with her own family, even moreso w/ levi symbolically replacing louis as the Man of the House in ep3. the lines r drawn in the sand. once again idk if ur the same anon or not, i think yall being entirely too generous to grace here + assuming she'd just take back her brother who she hardly had that much interest in contacting outside of sending jonah his way + sending a note that maman died. when they did meet in ep4, grace+ levi were both disgusted. ur fine w/ ur white daddy in the quarter aint u lou like how she says.
this falls into the fan issue of seeing black female characters as ever generous empty vessels of servitude for black males/female charas of nonblack varieties w/ no interiority or capacity for any complex human emotion when no. thats not how grace is with louis. grace is convinced by ep4 id say + seals the belief in ep5 when she leaves that her older brother [metaphorically or literally] died somewhere along the way+ was replaced by an evil gay demon. this may sound hyperbolic, but she literally says ur not my louis and buries him. how else can u interpret that lol. she has a complex relationship with her brother that degrades throughout season 1, and in no way can i see canon show! grace being some unconditionally loving confidante to her battered gay brother, vampire or not. she made no indication of disapproving of paul being in the asylum, or disapproving of louis's illicit dealings, its only once louis diverges from being a provider for the dulacs, and comes by in the night/if at all, that grace starts to resent her brother. let black women be complex characters. and like one of my other anons said as i attached below
Tumblr media
louis himself, is prideful as he is tormented.. even in the modern day, he does not self identify as a victim at the very least, for the purposes of daniel's writing + for reasons ive described time + time again, so what makes u think a 1920s-30s lou after being beat would go to his baby sister if she stayed in town somehow? like i said, being part of the historical great migration/s makes a lot of sense for grace + levi's characters. whether louis isnt paying out, or grace is refusing louis's money [lol u aint had no problem when big bro was a trick but now that white daddy pay the bills u aint touchin dat money? who knows]. outside of that theres very few opportunities for the freniere-dulacs, used to their former conditional opulence in the treme, in this here jim crow south outside of going up north. do recall that years before, louis hid the fact that papa du lac was boutta drive their family into destitution for years, even from his own mother, and especially from his younger sister. if we take the pilot draft describing grace as 22 or the books, this means grace is decently younger than show!louis. when he ran away from lestat in ep3 before finding claudia, he didnt go to the treme where his sister + then alive mother was, but to the old poor black neighborhoods, seeking absolution in an abstract sense for his self perceived wrongs, and bringing that redemption to lestat. to be turned, to live forever, to love him in a way his born family could not. eps 2-3 show that louis cannot go back to his born family anymore. something something ziska fill me up post here

https://youtu.be/61HltPN_k3g
and the other thing im really glad to have seen people mention here is musical songs cause thats one of the things i love about him the most like yass we love a thespian king slay grl so then anytime im binging a musical there always come the intrusive thoughts of "aw hed love this one" and "oh hed be great for this role" like i went to see f-ing swan lake with my f-ing grandpa and one of the major takeaways i got from the experience was (UH IM GONNA PUT A SPOILER WARNING HERE? I GUESS? IN CASE ANYONE CARES HELLO JULIAN BAD ENDING SPOILERS AHEAD DO MOVE ALONG NOW IF YOU DONT LIKE THAT AVERT YOUR GAZE CITIZENS LMAO LIKE YOU HAVENT SEEN FANARTS N ADS ALREADY ALRIGHT ALRIGHT) "omg jules would be so perfect as that bird guy villain IN HIS BIRD GUY SHAPE TOO OMG WITH THE WINGS ON STAGE THIS IS AWESOME WHY CANT I DRAW GOOD GODDA-"
anyway hed love hadestown (hed at least try to cast muriel as hades cause hes perfectly intimidating for it but theres way too many lines which okay Maybe but AND he has to sing???? nah hes out bkgdhkdt) i dont know what hed think of pierre natasha & the great comet cause its maybe a little eccentric i suppose but i think hed appreciate the cultural roots of the vibe with him being fantasy ruso-slav-ukrainian-whatnot heritage i reckon and hed definitely have a blast at a live performance and hed ABsolutely join in with the actors in between the rows at some point and theyd ABSOlutely let him cause hes that good and game recognize game cmon hes gonna show you amateurs what a real kazotski looks like
i can also see him enjoying sweeney todd, for its delightful edgyness, maybe even some themes relatable for him, and his sappy ass would SO memorise Pretty women to whip it out at an opportune serenading moment khgdturshc im so cringe and loving it
well i cant think of any more shows to throw him together with so thus ends my soliloquy wow i cant believe thats how you spell that anyway i hope anybody who knew what the hell im talking about enjoyed all that jgfztits see you in another 20 minutes when i come back like "AND ANOTHER thing-
Yay, it's the character song essays anon!! :D
I'm glad to see you back, and I will once again be re-linking the song you shared below and adding your suggestions to the tag ^.^
And frankly, I'm 76% certain that one of Julian's love languages is theatre, especially musical theatre. That could be tickets, that could memorizing the lines from one of this favorite scenes and reciting it back to him, it could be showing up to every single performance he's involved in :)
I'm glad to see you back in my inbox, friend, feel free to message me if you ever want to obsess over the characters together! Cheers -

back at it again w classpect deepdives!!! i only did one of these before forgetting about it completely but i have some THOUGHTS ABOUT VOID LETS GO WOO!!!
so for starters: i used to never really subscribe to void and light being an inverse pair, key word USED TO. idr why exactly; part of it was i hadnt fully thought out what the other pairs would have to be, part of it was wanting doom to be lights inverse through similar logic that ppl apply to seers and mages being inverses. which, ironically, is also smth i dont consider to be true anymore BUT I DIGRESS. i now think of void and light as true inverses for a couple reasons. most obviously being the light vs dark thing that gets played up in the comic proper, esp w the lalondes. but theres entire dimensions of the two aspects that also have to fit, right? right.
lets look at light for a second. (i promise this is a void post.) the light players we have, rose vriska and aranea, all have classes that take light in its more..... nonliteral sense. its not about LITERAL LIGHT like an heir or a knight or a maid would use, its about LUCK and FATE and...... whatever the fuck is going on w araneas abilities. not really sure how her shit works but i think a large part of it is just..... aranea was able to justify how her power would work, so it does. and i think thats a big part of light as an aspect too; the NARRATIVE. all three light players are biiiig big players who assign importance to the roles they play and make sure everything they do is significant. and its about IMPROBABILITY too; its about the unlikely outcomes that are very lucky for the player that fit the narratives flow and, as such, become the only fated outcome for the hero. for light players, everything is a PERFORMANCE.
so, conversely, we look at void! roxy, equius, horuss..... lets ignore horuss tho bc we just dont know enough about him. (tho isnt that smth in itself, a void player fading into obscurity.... whatever.) theres defo some metaphorical interpretations of void going on in hs proper, but we cant ignore the more literal stuff either!! or.... i guess we can; void comes up a lot as a way to HIDE THINGS. equius's blood is used to block out text in rose's journal, hiding information from seers, both literal and those who do it more as a hobby (callie). roxy causes the cherub's viewports to blackout, and she is able to help callie's ghost hide in the void. equius and darkleer both are able to create dark spots in doc scratch's omniscience, notably hiding the cue ball from him (specifically FOR some light aligned folks!). following along w literal interpretations, theres two more things that jump out at me: one, the repeated references to void as 'nothingness' and two, the fact that the void symbol clearly references the space symbol, as the spaces in between space's spiral. space is pretty generally agreed on as the aspect of stuff, like all matter and distance and concepts in the three traditional dimensions and whatnot; by contrast, void would have to refer to the SPACE IN BETWEEN. kind of confusing terminology but like, on a universal scale, if 'space' refers to planets and stars and people and asteroids and whatnot, 'void' would be like..... the vacuum. the vast majority of the universe where all that 'space' stuff ISNT. coming back to the first point, the NOTHINGNESS. space has strong ties to life, too, or like.... natural evolution? reproduction? the whole frog thing. and in any universe, sustained life is extremely rare, improbable, lucky....... and here we are coming back to light again! now were getting somewhere! which leaves void as a reference to the PROBABLE, and the MUNDANE, because if you pick a random point in the universe to look at theres a 99% chance youre coming up with NOTHING. void :3
bringing this back to more abstract stuff! tho tbh thats kinda hard bc i think void is just..... generally more predisposed to the literal than light is, which would make sense; light wants to tell a good story, void just shows things as they are. but when you have a class like a rogue, that steals the void from shit, you start to turn things on their head a bit. stealing the void moves the balance a bit more towards light, in a way, so you have roxy able to do kind of what aranea and vriska do, in that they come up w a narrative of what they SHOULD be able to do and through that have the ability to do it. notably, roxy didnt come up w the idea herself, and was told she could do it; her natural voidy things were much more literal interpretations of the aspect. but i digress. a rogue of void can steal the nothingness from an idea and make it a real object. if we think of that in more light friendly terms, we have the rogue considering a concept...... an object that is VERY PROBABLY not real, or not here in the present moment or universe or whatever. the odds are astronomically low that roxy would have a matriorb in the alpha timeline, right? it doesnt make sense, that would be fantastical and improbable and would be something out of a narrative; thats a light thing. and thats exactly why roxy can make it happen; she takes that concept of her just HAVING the matriorb, and she removes the improbability from it, the mundane details of how it could possibly exist, and in turn, very luckily is able to create a real matriorb to give to kanaya. and the luck here is critical! kanaya comments many times on how impossible it seems to ensure the return of her race. and the rogue of void thing DOESNT work when condy demands it of her, as if its a given that roxy can do it; instead, it only works when shes under no pressure, but trying to be heroic for someone else, with callie aka the MUSE OF SPACE, a super powerful class that inspires others wrt space stuff, including life in a universal sense..... yeah, w that many narrative signals theres no way light wasnt going to show up w void being rogued away.
anyway. what does this all mean? not too much, just.... some things to consider when classpecting a void player :3 a void player blends into the background, doesnt feel like a hero or a main character, and has little to no association w fate or luck (even bad luck! bad luck is a doom thing, its also improbable. void is more neutral luck, the v probable concept of just being normal). they likely seem like a fairly cookie cutter member of whatever society theyre in (yes, even equius. most of the trolls were not standard trolls; he was the one to give us insight on actual troll culture and norms). theyre down to earth, in a sense, and may feel as though they cant let their true feelings show for the sake of more 'narratively important' characters. little to no association with life or nature, probably more scientifically inclined (tech, not bio). stuff like that

What do you think a Voyager 'beyond the stars' type ep would be like?
I kinda like the idea of Chakotay being the 60s Sisko (I dont remember his name!) Because he is THE storyteller but I think theres all sorts of stuff that could be interesting about it (I know it would be weird for there to be a voy one as well as a DS9 but let's ignore that for a minute)
oh this is such a good question and i love the suggestion of chakotay but my immediate thought took it down a bit of a different path from the original far beyond the stars. so first of all we’re gonna live for a minute in a world where the writers weren’t awful at writing indigenous people/cultures for this. second of all i’m going to preface this by saying that i am not indigenous myself and am working off of my own research into post-colonialism as well as discussions with indigenous friends/teachers/colleagues so if anyone thinks anything i say here is off-base please let me know!
the vision i have for this ties into both chakotay’s background as an archeologist and as an indigenous person and places the voyager crew as a team of anthropologists on an archeological dig sometime in the 1990s or so. thematically, it would be very focused on interrogating colonial ideas of nature and discovery and ideally reveal some of chakotay’s own reasoning for leaving the federation to fight for the maquis (in a metaphorical sort of sense).
the plot would be something along the lines of professors chakotay, janeway, and tuvok showing up to some remote little island (in my mind this is somewhere along bc’s west coast but it doesn’t have to be, this sort of thing has happened in lot of places) with their gaggle of grad students and support staff (the rest of the crew) to do research. chakotay meets some of the locals and finds out they’re going to be kicked off their land soon because of some resource extraction project. chakotay’s like “well that’s bullshit, your people have lived here for hundreds of years and clearly have a deep connection to the land. this is your home, you can’t just move” and the locals are like “yeah well that’s not what the government thinks in part because they don’t recognize the various ways we’ve shaped the landscape through generations of living here because it doesn’t resemble western ways of living with the land and they don’t recognize the ways we still continue our cultural practices in this place.” of course chakotay gets really passionate about helping them and finding evidence to make the ministry of environment (or whoever is approving the project) change their mind.
mirroring sisko’s experience in far beyond the stars, i don’t think chakotay succeeds! i think one of the final shots is him looking haunted as bulldozers roll into town! but i do think it ends on a note of him being able to carry that story forwards and work even harder against dominant colonial narratives and ways of thinking.

the Wonderful @rhavewellyarnbag (theirs here!) tagged me in a thing to list '8' shows to get to know me better - ty!
i honestly dont watch a lot of tv, so this is all over the place, deepest apologies:
The Terror (2018) - obviously!! if we have spoken it is almost certainly bc of this show. One of the purest alignments of all of my interests & 'concerns'- its got it ALL!: the arctic, old ships, guys being trapped in a place & set of social structures/roles, lots of ice, man-hauling, cannibalism, the historical voice resolving itself into fate(?), etc etc etc, the list just goes on & on.
Barry - in part just bc im thinking about it lots atm, in part bc, like the terror, its doing a lot of stuff i'm super into; who DOESNT like smth that's just looking real hard at what 'performing' means, as well as the violence in everything, and yknow... its funny
Beyond Belief - i dont think anyone should really watch this, BUT i watched SO much of this as a kid, and forced my friends to watch so much of it, that somewhere it surely must be deeply embedded in my psyche. when i first saw tng i was like, 'omg, your man from beyond belief???', watch the guaranteed video spoof instead (x) :)
spn - similar to above lbr. i watched almost all of it over a 1-2 month period when i was like. 14, and haven't seen it since really, but it did manage to introduce me to a surprising amount of music :/ - i DO believe there are some genuine bangers in there though; both songs & eps
The Tick - i'm mostly thinking of the '01 version i guess, but the 2016 series is honestly the better of the two. theres just really smth to how it works being a superhero as a gay metaphor, as well as how much it is genuinely just basically a superhero sitcom lol. the 2016 one has much more heart, but the 2001 id like to mold in my hands ykwim?
This Morning with Richard not Judy - bizarro late-90s comedy 'morning show', you can only find it kinda low-quality on youtube now. i dont think its either as daring or as weird as fist of fun, but some of the segments are pretty good, and i like its qualities of both repetition pushed to a breaking point, and refusal to be friendly with the audience.
The IT Crowd - genuinely would NOT rec, remember SO very little of it, but i DO think about that "a fire? at a sea-parks???" bit so SO often - unbelievable delivery - just watch that clip, and imagine that being a whole B or C plot for an episode of television, leave the rest
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace - absolutely unique, matt holness is still the dirk gently casting of my dreams; you do have to put up with so much early 00s british comedian spotting tho
tagging, if they're interested :) !: @silverview @mithridic @cctinsleybaxter @nonsensegnomes @jdmara @imageofvoid @kinksheriff

Dude.
Dude.
Enemies to lovers FengQing, vampire!Mu Qing x Hunter!Feng Xin, only Mu Qing isn't one of those capitalist rich vampires, and instead seems absolutely feral, hiding in the forest and attacking livestock, while he guards his mother's grave, and Feng Xin is a mild nepo-baby hunter with loads of money and wealth, and theres a class divide metaphor in here somewhere
🐉
big fat yes from me. feng xin slowly realises that not all vampires are bad and the rest is history
