Mean It
The bond you have formed with the resident genius of the BAU is one that you treasure. Every morning, you are most excited to practically skip into the office with the brightest smile on your face, just for him. The wonder, the magic that is Doctor Spencer Reid, and you are lucky enough to call him your closest friend.
He is endlessly fascinating to you. Unlike the rest of the team, you have never once cut one of his rambles short, you have listened to each and every one in its entirety, with stars in your eyes.
The two of you talk about anything and everything, from the most mundane smalltalk to the deepest philosophical debates, and you enjoy every moment spent in Spencer’s company.
However, as you perch on Spencer’s desk in what has become a morning tradition, the look on your face as you glance around the office makes your dear friend’s heart sink, because he knows who you are looking for.
And right on cue, Derek Morgan strolls into the office, yelling an overly enthusiastic question that is - much to Spencer’s dismay - ritualistic, too.
“WHERE’S MY PRETTY GIRL?”
The beaming smile on your face as you hop off of Spencer’s desk and run into Derek’s open arms is worse than a bullet wound, which Spencer knows to be true without any actual proof.
He watches on, wondering if his skin is turning green with jealousy, as Derek picks you up and spins you around, the two of you laughing like it’s the funniest thing in the world. What’s so funny about that? Spencer thinks bitterly, frowning at his computer and forcing himself to shift his focus, though his subconscious continues to grumble. If he was ever allowed the privilege of holding you like that, the last thing he’d do is laugh about it.
Thankfully, the morning event is over as quickly as it began, and you skip back over to Spencer with a smile that’s different to the one you had for Derek. What shade of green is Spencer now?
“Sorry about that, Spence, gotta reach my daily hug quota!” You chime.
Spencer’s stomach drops. He wants so badly to offer his own services, to perhaps suggest some variety in who is allowed to meet your daily-hug-quota and enquire whether you’d consider his application, whether he meets your criteria. But, in what can only be described as the worst preconceived notion in human history, Spencer does not like physical contact in the majority of circumstances, as you have well known since the day you met him and he proposed a kiss would hold less germs than a handshake, which made you blush in a way his eidetic memory has never let him forget. He wishes, more than anything, he could travel back in time to that very day, to add a clause to the contract he’d bound himself to, some fine-print that said ‘physical contact from and with (Y/N) is the only exception to every typical circumstantial preference for no physical contact’. Alas, Spencer Reid had unintentionally doomed himself.
Today is a rarity, in which the team have spent the day confined to the BAU building, filing case reports and talking amongst themselves. You speak to Spencer most of all, because on the occasion anyone else speaks to him, he finds he is too distracted by you to fully focus his efforts on the conversation.
As per usual, you wait at the elevator doors for Spencer, never walking out of the office without him in an unspoken gesture of your sweet appreciation for his company.
“Oh, Spence, did you want to have a Doctor Who sleepover tonight?” You suggest suddenly, causing Spencer’s eyes to widen and his heart to skip simultaneously.
“Y-Yes! Of course!” He blurts out, perhaps a little too quickly. Perhaps, he should have paused for a beat, giving you the impression he had been able to form a degree of a coherent thought before he answered you.
Instead, Spencer spends the elevator ride down to the ground floor glancing at you with a dazed look in his eyes, like you are the first star he’s ever seen and he’s too shy to look at you for too long. Why would he be shy in the presence of a star? Stars are out of his reach, beyond the realm of his capability to hold. That metaphor had been far more applicable than he’d realized.
The drive to your house is spent in accordance with your typical pre-sleepover routine; Spencer says he doesn’t mind what music you play, and you select one of your many playlists at random, singing and dancing in such a theatrical way in the passenger seat of Spencer’s car that he truly wonders if he didn’t have an IQ of 187, would he be able to split his focus between adoring you and concentrating on the road?
In what feels like no time at all, you and Spencer are sitting on your sofa with a blanket each and a bowl of popcorn between you that Spencer finds himself internally cursing with every unkind word he knows, as he does each and every time that pathetic plastic bowl forms an impassable barrier between him and you. Occasionally, his fingers are lucky enough to brush yours if you happen to reach for popcorn at the same time. You always chuckle like it’s a coincidence, never quite catching onto the way in which Spencer studies your movements in his peripheral vision to calculate, down to a fine science, how long it takes you to finish one handful of popcorn before you’ll reach for another, and he can just so happen to plan his movements accordingly. All for a brush of your fingertips. In truth, Spencer would run through a burning building just for the chance to hold your hand, even if it wasn’t promised. The chance, that’s all he needs.
In the midst of what is otherwise a very traditional evening shared between the two of you, Spencer feels different. The more he thinks about how this evening could play out if Derek Morgan were in his place, the more Spencer wonders if his eyes are playing tricks on him or if the skin of his hands is turning green with jealousy. Would the bowl of popcorn be in the same place? Would it be on your lap, or Derek’s, allowing the two of you to sit closer, considering you already showcase just how comfortable you are together? Or would it be on the coffee table, leaving no obstruction between you and Derek at all? Would his arm be around you, and would your arm be around him in return? Would you be telling Derek the pieces of movie trivia that Spencer had been the one to tell you, when you watched a movie with Derek that you had previously seen with Spencer? Do you wish Derek was here with you instead? ‘Nauseous’ is too small a word and does not contain enough profanities.
“I’m not gonna get through all this popcorn on my own, Spence.” You chuckle quietly, having noticed that your company hasn’t reached for popcorn in some time due to how cold your hand feels, having not flushed at the sensation of his fingertips in too long.
“Sorry, not hungry.” Spencer murmurs.
The sadness in his voice sets off alarm bells in your head immediately, and you pause the movie, discarding the bowl of popcorn that Spencer’s scowl follows all the way to the coffee table, while you turn to face him on your couch.
“Spence, what’s the matter? Do you feel sick?” You ask gently.
Yes, actually, viscerally.
“Nothing, I’m-“
You shake your head, the only time you’ll ever cut him off is when he tries to deflect. “Don’t. I can see something’s wrong, and if you don’t want to tell me, that’s okay, but can you please tell me what I can do to help?”
Of course, Spencer’s feelings for you have a solid foundation in the perceptive and attentive person that you are, forever seeing right through him.
“Do you…Do you ever have movie nights with Morgan?” He asks timidly, his head hanging in shame, his gaze fixed on his lap.
Spencer’s question completely catches you off guard, and your jaw drops, an amused smile gracing your features in utter bewilderment.
“What? No, Derek’s never even stood on my doorstep, Spence, why do you ask?” You question the motives of his query, and he sighs in defeat.
“I just figured…you’re so comfortable with him, you must want to spend time with him outside of work, too. I guess I just don’t understand why you’d invite me instead. Do you pity me, or something?” Spencer asks in a dejected and small voice.
The cogs in your brain are turning, your expression softening in turn.
“Spencer, I don’t pity you, I invite you because I enjoy spending time with you.” There’s a delicacy to your words, recognising his fragile state.
And Spencer’s foolish, lovesick heart sings from beneath the ruins at your words, at the tiniest spark of hope that is immediately suffocated by his own insecurities.
One word from you has the power to make and break him, all at once.
“But you enjoy Derek more.” Spencer’s voice breaks on the last word he speaks, and he closes his eyes in a pained blink, turning his face away from you completely in an effort to shield himself from the kindness he’ll see in your gaze. “You sit with me every morning while you wait for him, and the second he’s there, you’re gone. The way you smile at him isn’t the same way you smile at me. I understand that you don’t feel the same way about me, but I don’t understand why you’d waste any time on me outside of work, based on that.” Spencer is trying his absolute best to phrase everything he says in his usual objective, matter-of-fact tone, but the hurt in his words is so clear.
“Spencer,” You sigh gently, “Will you look at me, please?”
He shakes his head. “Can’t.”
“Why not?” You ask in the same soft voice that makes his heart ache.
“I’ll forget how much this hurts the moment I look at you.” Spencer mutters.
“Don’t you want to forget?” You question, almost pleading.
Spencer shakes his head. “If I forget, I’ll throw myself back into the same cycle of pining for you, living off of your smiles and glances and the instances where I make you laugh.”
Your heart breaks at his words, and for a few seconds, you don’t say anything. The very moment the idea enters your mind, you reach for Spencer’s hand, holding it gently in both of yours, and immediately, his wide eyes have turned to stare at you.
And your tears. You must have only started crying after you last spoke to him, because if you had been crying in the midst of your reply, Spender wouldn’t have been able to hear anything else.
And just like he predicted, the sight of you makes him forget every ounce of his own pain, his heart breathing a sigh of relief and reaching out for you in pure anguish at the sight of you, in tears.
“Why are you crying?” Spencer asks, his voice barely above a whisper. If it wasn’t for your tears, the way you are holding his hand would render him incapable of forming a single word.
“Because you have no idea that you’re my favorite person in the universe, Spencer.” You sniffle.
Spencer frowns slightly. “Please don’t say that if you don’t-“
“I mean it.” You cut his deflection short again. “I come into the office every morning excited at the thought of seeing you, and I stay sitting on your desk, as close to you as I’m allowed to be, until we’re forced to work; the only time I leave your desk in the mornings is to briefly greet Derek, because he is the only person who knows how I feel and he hugs me in the way I wish you would, to make me feel better.” You explain through your tears. “And you’re right, I don’t smile at you the same way I do at Derek.”
Spencer is uncertain as to whether his heart has given out entirely.
He blinks. Once. Twice. And a third time. Then rapidly, six times, to blink the tears away that dared blur the perfect vision of you in front of him.
“I treat you differently to Derek because I adore you enough to never want to risk overstepping your boundaries with physical contact. I sit on your desk to resist hugging you every morning, I put a bowl of popcorn between us whenever we watch a movie because I’m afraid I’ll subconsciously lean closer to you, and it hurts to put those limitations in place, to feel the ever present distance between us, but I don’t care, because I do it for you, and I’d do it for you forever.” You add, the words falling from your lips so easily, Spencer can almost feel how long you’ve been holding them in.
“(Y/N)…” He chokes out the only word his heart and soul can remember in this moment.
“I never meant to make you feel like you are less important, or that I like you less- I’m so sorry.” The waterfalls from your eyes are too constant for you to manage now, and you let go of Spencer’s hand to hold your own face instead, hiding yourself and your guilt from him in your state of vulnerability.
Spencer glances at the popcorn bowl on the coffee table for a fraction of a second, before he shuffles over on the couch to occupy the space he had been aching to steal from that bowl since your very first sleepover, and very slowly, he wraps his arms around you. And it’s instinctual, the way your hands come away from your face as you wrap your own arms around his neck, your face finding the home it had always longed for in Spencer’s shoulder. As if slotting into place, you find yourself sitting on his lap with no real understanding of how you got there, because all that matters is that he is holding you there.
“I’m sorry for getting jealous, I had no right to.” Spencer’s apology breaks the silence, and he speaks into your hair, his every sense soaking in the sensation, the scent of you.
“I’m glad you did, but you didn’t need to. I’ve been yours since the day we met.” You say, as if your words are a casual statement and not life-altering in a way that changes Spencer Reid’s very brain chemistry.
“You’ve been mine?” He repeats your statement as a disbelieving question.
Wiping your tears with your sleeve, you sigh dramatically. “Yep. Just waited around for you to notice.”
And Spencer can’t quite believe it, but he laughs, shaking his nose into your hair and holding you tighter against his chest.
“I’m sorry for being oblivious, in that case.” He apologizes, his tone more lighthearted now.
“I’m sorry too.” You chuckle.
“From what I understand of confession-scenes, they are not supposed to contain this many apologies.” Spencer muses, making you laugh heartily, his soul very nearly rising out of his body at the sound.
“Everyone knows the best confessions have a bit of angst.” You joke, and Spencer nods, laughing with you.
“And you do have a proclivity for dramatics.” Spencer teases, and you playfully poke his chest, the two of you sharing a giggle like a pair of giddy teenagers.
A pleasant minute of silence passes as you revel in holding each other, an intimacy once pined after finally being felt in full-force, until a question rises in you that simply has to be asked, or you will burst.
“Does this mean that, going forward, our sleepovers can include makeouts?” You pull away from Spencer’s chest enough to watch the shade of pink blossom in his cheeks, his pupils dilating as he looks into your eyes, and he nods.
“I-I believe that is a feature that is well-worth adding to our list of sleepover activities.”
And when he says it like that, how can a girl be expected to do anything but kiss him senseless in response?

Spencer sat in the cold police precinct in Philadelphia with JJ, Rossi, and Penelope (she was a vital resource, needing to come with the team on this case), counting down the minutes until Hotch, Derek, Emily, and a few Philly officers came back with the unsub in custody. As soon as they got back and the case was deemed closed, he could go and see you.
Obviously, he went to your concert last night, had you stay over, and slept in as much as possible before you had to leave for your next stop on tour and Spencer had to get to the office. The reason he was so hellbent on seeing you tonight as well is because when you're touring and he does his regular BAU job, the two of you barely see each other. Your tour kicked off three months ago, starting in Europe, and he didn't get to visit any of those shows, so when the U.S leg came around, he wanted to be as present as possible.
That too, was very hard.
Spencer loves his job, really, he does, but when he plans on using the allotted resting days the team gets after a case to visit you, and ends up getting called in anyway… he has grown some resentment over the time. So now– here in Philadelphia, where you are– he plans on missing out on the trip back with the team and instead, watch your show again. The only other thing in the back of his mind right now were the words of your last text to him.
Y/N: OH MY GOD OKAY!! i’m so happy you can make it, spence 🫶
Y/N: omg PLEASE invite that friend of yours too!! i'm so sorry she couldn't get tickets for d.c :(
When Spencer initially told you about Penelope and how she ousted your relationship just from a video online, you completely lost it. In a “oh my God, I'm going to piss my pants, I’m laughing so hard” kind of way. Your exact words to him when he was on the phone with you as he sat in his hotel room. You didn't have a problem with his friends and family knowing. You actually encouraged him to let his closest people in, but he valued you and how you wanted to keep him out of the public eye as much as possible, so he simply didn't say anything to anyone. The respect you have for each other is insanely beautiful.
So he felt as though he was between a rock and a hard place. He wanted to let the team in. They're his family, but once he lets them in– once he invites Penelope to this free concert offered by his girlfriend, he was losing an extra security blanket in keeping your wishes. He knew your wishes were solely there to benefit him and his job and her personal life, but it was still something that worried you to the point of breaking down every once in a while, and he would do everything in his power to make sure that doesn't happen again.
When those who went out to obtain the unsub came back, Spencer stood up, knowing once they got the confession they were done, and went to idly walk by the desk Penelope was sitting at.
“Yes, Mr. Into You. how can I help you?” She smirked at her words, causing Spencer to roll his eyes.
“You don't know that song is about me.” Her deadpan expression caused Spencer to sigh, “okay, fine. Anyway, I was wondering if you had plans for tonight. Like, after the case.”
Placing her hand on her chest, she batted her eyelashes. “Well, sweets, I'm flattered, but I don't think your girlfriend would be too happy.”
“Penelope.”
“Sorry!”
Wringing his fingers together, Spencer bit the inside of his cheek. “Y/N has a concert here in Philadelphia–”
“I’m well aware.”
“And she told me to invite you along tonight. She’s sorry you couldn't get tickets to D.C.”
A gasp left her lips and she stood to her feet quickly, “oh my lanta!” The volume of her voice caused chatter to quiet around them, and she sheepishly smiled at everyone, “sorry! But oh my– Spencer, are you joking? Because if you are, this is cruel and unusual punishment, Dr. FBI man.”
“It’s not a joke, Pen.”
“Eek!” She threw her arms around his neck without thinking, and Spencer, while he hesitated at first, eventually welcomed the hug. “Thank you so much!”
“You can thank her when you meet her.”
“Meet her–? I– oh…” Her eyes went wide with excitement, “I am so excited!”
And so was he. He didn't show it until the two of them got there though. You were very busy getting ready before the show, so when your manager met him and Penelope in the back of the venue, he insisted that the two of them went straight to your friends and family section and that he could see you afterwards. The excitement in his eyes became very apparent the moment the opening chords to your song Positions. Penelope was singing and dancing, while Spencer did his signature head bop– that's how you knew you made a good song.
it was about halfway through the set when you got to Nonsense, a song everyone looked forward to. You did a different outro every stop of the tour. Yesterday’s outro was a very colorful depiction of him and his… skills in the bedroom because you knew he was going to be there. There was no way he’d be embarrassed again.
“This song’s catchier than chicken pox is
I bet your house is where my other sock is
Woke up this morning, thought I’d write a pop it
How quickly can you take your clothes off, pop quiz?
There's a lot to do out here in philly
My man came here so he can come and feel me
His body keeps me warm, I'm never chilly.”
You laughed as you looked over to the family and friends section, and immediately recognized the face you love becoming tinted with red by the minute. A couple songs later, you performed one of your newest songs, Vigilante Shit. You were the most excited for this portion of your set when you added it after it first released. You were on break after the Europe leg and couldn't stop going over all of the choreography, Spencer being the very first person not on your team to watch, and he thought it was incredible (even if it was with a kitchen chair in his living room).
When performing, you always put on your best show, but sometimes, if Spencer’s in the audience, you amp it up a bit. Which is what you did now. One of the moves involved having a leg propped up on the chair and slinking your hand down your body. When Spencer was there, you went extra hard with the facial expressions, giving it more sexuality. You also made sure to roll your body and stick your ass out a bit more whenever you stood up from the chair, making sure you're giving him a good view. It’s what your boyfriend deserved.
And while you always thought you were doing good by him (because he would never tell you otherwise), he was always as red as a tomato– especially now with Penelope next to him, moving her phone camera between you and him, capturing the dance and his reaction. He felt his warm cheeks begin to cool when you moved onto your next song, but that flush inevitably came back the moment you picked up your guitar for the acoustic set and shifted your eyes towards him.
“We are now moving onto the acoustic set!” The crowd went wild, as always, and you continued, “tonight is actually a little different… I’ll still sing ‘Picture You’ and ‘Dress’, but I wanted to add a new one.” You began strumming your guitar gently, “It’s not released yet, but I have someone here I want to dedicate it to… this one’s about you, you know who you are. I love you.”
“Oh my God!” Penelope once again whipped out her phone, but all Spencer could do was stare at your trembling hands as you continued to strum.
“Oh, no, did I get too close?
Oh, did I almost see what's really on the inside?
All your insecurities
All the dirty laundry
Never made me blink one time”
He held his breath as you continued to sing.
“Unconditional, unconditionally
I will love you unconditionally
There is no fear now
Let go and just be free
I will love you unconditionally”
And he released the air from his lungs.
“Come just as you are to me
Don't need apologies
Know that you are worthy
“I’ll take your bad days with your good
Walk through the storm, I would
I do it all because I love you
I love you”
And as you continued with the song, Spencer felt tears well up in his eyes. Of course, he didn't let any of them fall, slyly wiping them as Penelope was putting her phone back away.
You had about 2 songs left when Spencer spotted one of your security guys discreetly getting his attention so that he could go backstage. He tapped Penelope on the shoulder, and tilted his head towards the guy. “We’re gonna watch the rest of the show backstage if that's okay?”
Mouth opening and shutting, she nodded her head, following the two men in front of her. Spencer could tell Pen felt out of her element back there with the rest of the crew, especially knowing that in about thirty seconds now, you were going to be saying your goodbyes and head off stage.
“Thank you so much, Philadelphia! I had a wonderful time. Thank you to my band, and my dancers. The amazing audio techs and the entire crew that keeps this show running! Have a great night!”
Running towards them, you gave Spencer a big smile before leaping into his arms to give him a hug. “Hi. You were incredible,” you felt him mutter against your neck.
“Hi. Thank you,” you muttered back, only staying in his arms a second longer so that you could greet the other guest. “Hi, I’m Y/N!”
“H-Hi! I’m Penelope!” Not knowing what to do, she stuck out her hand, but you brushed it aside, opting for a hug instead.
“I’m more of a hugger.”
She laughed and gave you a nod as you released each other. “Me too.” She looked between you and Spencer for a moment with a wide grin. “You're even prettier in person. You're also incredible, and your music is amazing and I love everything about you.”
“You're too sweet,” you gave a pout when thinking of her words, “you're gorgeous as well! And I love this dress! Spencer has told me all about you and the rest of the team.”
The three of you continued to chat for a bit, and once you noticed the crew packing things up, you turned towards Penelope and gave her a smile. “Do you want to go out with us? We were just gonna grab dinner.”
“Oh, no! I have someone picking me up.”
“Are you sure?” Spencer furrowed his eyebrows.
“Yes, boy genius, I’m sure. Derek stayed behind so that he could get me back to Quantico. Oh! You need to meet the rest of the team sometime.”
You immediately agreed, squeezing Spencer’s hand so he knows to introduce you to everyone else soon. “One hundred percent.”
“Anyway, I will let you two love birds go. Have a nice night, and I’ll see you at the office, Spencer!”
After getting security to show Penelope where to go to leave, Spencer turned back towards you and pulled you back into his arms. He has never felt so loved in his life, and thinking about you, and that song, and everything life has to offer him at the moment caused the unshed tears from before to finally fall.
“Spencer, are you okay?” You pulled back to see the tears, and cupped his face, “baby, why are you crying?”
“The song was beautiful.”
He didn't answer you explicitly, but from his words mixed with the reaction you knew what was going on. “Thank you… I love you so much,” you said, wiping his cheeks.
“Unconditionally?”
You scoffed and shook your head. “Of course silly.”

comfortember day sixteen: coffee/tea break aaron hotchner x gender neutral reader aaron takes a holiday from work and comes back with a beard, leading to something neither of you would have expected. word count: 1.6k warnings/content: minor injury (burns), mentions of being shot, kissing, one use of Y/N,, idk what else. comfortember masterlist here! also on ao3!
beards and burns
You sigh at the computer in front of you, feeling exhaustion beginning to weigh you down. Looking around the bullpen and seeing similar expressions across your co-worker's faces, you stand up and ask, “Does anyone want any coffee?” The chorus of yeses and pleases makes you laugh as you begin walking toward the kitchenette. “I’ll make a fresh pot.”
“Our saviour!” Emily calls after you.
Derek laughs as he gestures toward you. “The true hero of the BAU.”
You roll your eyes and begin making the coffee, scrolling through your phone as it heats up. As you laugh at a funny post from your friend, you hear a few collective gasps fill the room and glance up to see your team all talking in hushed voices. Raising your eyebrow, you wonder to yourself what they’re up to as you grab the finished coffee pot and your mug.
“Good to see you again, Y/N,” a voice from behind you says, startling you and making you jump. “Oh, sorry.”
Recognising the voice as Aaron, your boss, who’s been on holiday for almost two months (everyone was as surprised as you when he announced his break from work), you turn around to greet him with a smile. However, at the sight of him, the words die in your throat and all you get out is an embarrassing noise of shock. And if that’s not embarrassing enough, the coffee pot–both fresh and boiling to the touch–falls out of your grip and smashes to the ground.
Aaron is quick to run over to you, his face dropping into deep concern as you flinch back and hold your hand with a pained sound. It’s almost too much, his soft brown eyes looking over your face, one hand on your shoulder and the other hovering over your burnt hand, and the beard.
God, he has a beard.
An actual beard.
One that frames his face so perfectly and makes him look ten times more attractive, something you were sure couldn’t be possible and it has your mind reeling. Your face feels as if it’s been engulfed in flames as you stare at him, his mouth moving to words you’re too unfocused to hear.
He moves you over to the sink and runs the water on the coldest setting, testing the temperature on his hand before putting yours under the tap and shaking off his own. Embarrassment courses through you.
“Sorry,” you mutter, taking a step away from him and looking at the shattered glass on the floor. “I don’t know what happened there.”
You can feel everyone in the office staring at you and you wish the floor would simply swallow you up. Derek cackles to himself, trying to stifle his laughter but failing miserably, and you make a note to yourself to smack him over the head when you get a chance.
“Maybe you should go home and get some sleep instead of drinking more coffee, hm?” Aaron suggests.
Despite the pain in your hand, slowly easing up under the cold water, you manage to laugh. “Jesus, Hotch, you take a month off and suddenly you’re an advocate for going home and getting some rest? What happened to you?”
He grins at your words, his dimple hidden by his perfectly trimmed beard but still managing to look as stunning as ever, and you melt at the sight. “It made me open my eyes a bit.” As he speaks, he reaches out for a neatly folded towel on the counter and throws it over the coffee on the floor, kneeling beside it. His eyes catch yours from where he’s on the floor, the light reflecting beautifully over them and making the black ring around his iris more noticeable. “I’ve clearly been missing out.”
“Hotch, you don’t have to clean that–”
“It’s okay, don’t worry.” He moves the towel over the floor briefly before standing up and looking at your hand in concern. “You know what? Your hand is more important than this floor.” He glances around the room before his eyes land on a still-grinning Derek and he squints his eyes with the smallest of smirks–it almost makes you collapse on the spot. “Morgan, clean this glass up, please.”
That wipes the smile off Derek’s face immediately and you bite your lip to hold back a laugh. “Seriously, Hotch? I didn’t even make the mess, man!”
“You can treat yourself to another pot of coffee afterwards,” Aaron replies, reaching out for your shoulder and gently guiding you toward his office. Once you’re inside and the door is closed, he takes your burnt hand in yours and sighs. “What are we gonna do with you, huh?”
“It’s just a small burn,” you shrug, “nothing I haven’t been through before.”
He hums. “True. I mean… you’ve been shot.”
“True,” you reply with a grimace, “that wasn’t very pleasant. Neither is this but I’m being very brave about it.”
Aaron laughs, the noise soft and sweet, and you’re sure you might melt. “Yes. Yes, you are. Now let’s make sure you’re okay, hm?” After looking over your hand for a few moments, Aaron hums again and smiles at you, eyes bright. “I think you’ll survive.”
And then he does something you would never have expected in a million years. Everything feels as if it’s in slow motion as he gently swipes the pad of his thumb over the back of your hand before raising it to his lips and pressing a soothing kiss over your skin. Your cheeks warm the moment his lips make contact and the cage in your stomach bursts open with all the butterflies fighting to get out.
“There,” he whispers, “kissed it all better.”
You can’t help but laugh at that, finding him endearingly cute as you stare at him with a fond look. “Thank you, that really helped.” As the two of you stare at each other for a few moments, you move your burnt hand closer to slide it over his jaw, feeling the soft bristles of his beard under your fingers. The sensation makes your heart hammer in your chest, and when Aaron smiles and nuzzles his face into the palm of your hand, you’re sure you might have a heart attack right then and there. “Aaron…”
“Yeah?”
Running your thumb over his jaw, you smile at him. “I missed you.”
Aaron grins and his dimples move under your hand. “I missed you too.”
And then he’s moving closer, reaching out to cup your face in his own warm hands, angling your head so that his lips slot perfectly against yours. The kiss is soft and sweet, and you find yourself sinking further against him as he smiles into the kiss. When it’s over and the two of you pull apart, slowly so as to not separate so soon, his eyes find yours and his smile widens.
“That was…” you start, trailing off as you nuzzle your nose against his cheek and close your eyes.
“Something we should have done a long time ago?”
You let out a huff of laughter. “Definitely. But I’m glad we did it now.”
“Me too,” he mutters, pressing his lips against yours again. The short hairs of his beard rub against your face in a satisfying way. “This wouldn’t have anything to do with my beard though, would it?”
“Oh, it has everything to do with it,” you reply, pressing a kiss against his jaw. “You better be keeping this, Agent.”
“If you say so, Agent,” he chuckles. “Although I’m not sure Jack will like it.”
“Kids can’t always get what they want, tell him to suck it up.”
Aaron snorts at that. “Maybe you should be the one to tell him that; I don’t think he’d like to hear that from me. Maybe over dinner later this week?”
You raise an eyebrow. “You want me to have dinner with you and Jack already?”
His face falls ever so slightly. “I’m moving too fast, aren’t I? I just figured that you and Jack already know each other pretty well and–”
“Aaron,” you laugh, interrupting him. You smooth your fingers over his beard, admiring the way it frames his face perfectly for a few moments before meeting his eyes again. “It’s okay, I understand. I’d… I’d love that.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” you smile. “Does Friday work?”
“Friday, Friday,” he mutters, looking down at the ground in thought. “Hm, I don’t know…” He meets your gaze and laughs when you give him a look. “Yes, yes that’ll work. How about 7pm?”
“That’s perfect,” you reply, pressing your lips against his one more time. “I should get back to work now.”
“Right, yeah. See you later.”
You wave to him and make your way out of his office, immediately aware of all the eyes on you. Derek is both smirking and glowering at you, no doubt mad about the fact he had to clean up the mess, but there’s a coffee in his and everyone else’s hand so there’s no doubt he did it. When you glance back at the office, you realise that Aaron’s blinds were open the entire time and the team had a view of everything that just happened.
Great.
Ignoring the small anxious pit in your stomach over that, you stroll over to casually pour yourself a new coffee before making your way to your desk. You sit down and turn on your screen, focusing on the task at hand, when Emily approaches you with a smirk.
“What?”
“So, you and Hotch, huh?”
You laugh and gently push her away. “Yeah, what about it?”
“Nothing! Just didn’t realise you had such a thing for beards!”
“Shut it, Prentiss.”
“Or what?” She cackles.
You roll your eyes and laugh again, looking up at Aaron’s office once more to see him already looking back at you, a genuine smile tugging at his lips. It makes you feel light and you can’t wait until Friday rolls around.

bau!team x psychiatrist!reader
Summary: fem!psychiatrist!reader has been a longtime psychiatrist of the BAU team. Always there to listen to their troubles. But what if she mysteriously disappears?
Warning: use of y/n and l/n, curse word(s?), mentions of trauma? (kind of)
part 2 (Doctor is In)
Monday, 11:04 AM
"Have you heard from Dr. L/N? I wanted to schedule my next appointment but can't reach her cell." Spencer, being your frequent visitor, asked his teammates as he stared at his flip phone in deep thought. Maybe the problem was his phone?
Emily turned her seat, legs crossed and arms flat on the armrests of her chair. "I actually wanted to schedule one yesterday. I couldn't reach her cell either." She shrugged, leaning backwards.
Derek rolled his eyes, "Maybe she's on a date? Let the woman have a life." He was your newest patient, though you have been listening to his troubles for 2 years.
You have been the BAU team's psychiatrist for the past six years, or more, you couldn't remember. All you could remember was how they slowly piled, one by one, in your office and shared their deepest sorrows to the safety of your listening ear.
It started when Spencer needed someone to rant to. He arrived at your clinic, soaking wet from the rain, and clutching your business card in his hand. You were about to leave for the day, but you didn't mind the extra hours you had to spend.
Then came JJ, who brought her concerns for Spencer but was completely anxious over different things. She was the sweetest woman alive that you have ever met. And it sometimes pained you to know that she had to endure adversities.
The others crammed right in like children asking for a little bit of company in the dark, and you were more than happy to provide them with a cozy sofa and a listening ear.
Spencer and Emily let go of the topic. Derek was right. They had to let you have a life outside of work, outside of listening from their cries. They bothered you with the shallowest inconvenience 24/7, and it didn't sit right to deprive you of having time off.
With that said, nonetheless, you have been part of their family. Even if you weren't a profiler, they welcomed you to one of Rossi's dinner parties just the same.
Emily loved to joke that you were their sweet, softhearted mommy, while Aaron Hotchner was their strict dad. You always laughed at that.
Tuesday, 4:32 PM
Penelope was maniacally tapping on her keys as she searched for information that the group asked her to look for. They flew out this morning, almost teleporting to Los Angeles for a fast escalating serial killer.
A ringing echoed in her background, waiting for the recipient to pick up the call. The number was yours.
"You've reached Dr. L/N's line. Please don't leave a message at all. Text me directly instead at 571..."
She sat up, rolling her chair across her room to reach her telephone and dropped the call. "No! Y/N! I need you to answer me so you can listen my dilemma!" Penelope whined, and speed dialed your number once again.
You may be the BAU's psychiatrist for six years, but you have been Penelope's psychiatrist for eight years. You were there when she broke down about the horrors of their recent cases, when she got shot, and many more events in her life that she couldn't help but rant about to you. You were her friend, and you felt honored to become one.
Wednesday, 10:57 PM
"Something's wrong." Spencer announced, sitting on the swivel chair with his legs crisscrossed.
Hotch immediately lifted his gaze from the file he had in his hands, glancing at Spencer. "What did you find?"
What the Unit Chief didn't know was that his youngest profiler has been staring into space for a good 30 minutes. Spencer fidgeted on the hem of his slacks. "Dr. L/N has never been MIA for more than a day." He replied, unaware of his conversation with his leader.
"Reid. I need your focus in this mission and not Dr. L/N's?" Hotch diverted, bringing his attention back to the file in his hands.
Thursday, 7:00 AM
Spencer's statement didn't leave the back of Hotch's mind, sending you a text as soon as his alarm went off. He couldn't get a blink of sleep.
As much as he tried to think about the case, worry for a compassionate friend began to creep in his veins.
Hey, if you don't mind. Would you happen to have time for me to visit on Saturday afternoon?
He tapped the sides of his phone, staring at the screen. With a small sigh, Hotch exited the bed and got ready for work.
Within the ten minutes he showered, a towel around his waist, Hotch glanced on the screen and furrowed his brows at the absence of your reply.
It wasn't like you were obligated to respond to him at that time of the day, but he had known you enough years to know that you were wide awake at the strike of 7 AM.
Hotch remembered clearly how the two of you coincidentally met at the park where he usually goes for a run. He learned then that you never fail to wake up on 5 AM in the morning, emptying your mind to make space for people's troubles that you gladly eased.
He dialed a phone number, "Hello, Garcia?"
Friday, 1:29 PM
The team arrived back to Quantico, wiped out and drained from the case, unenthusiastic of the fact that they had to stay for a few hours and complete some paperwork before they could finally go home.
"Did L/N change her number?" JJ walked in the bullpen, waving her phone to the others. She placed a hand on her hip as she navigated through her phone, preparing to edit your contact information.
Not to create competition, but JJ had it worst in their past case. The anxiety that coursed through her bloodstream needed the comfort of your soft voice. She would discuss it with her husband, Will, but you always understood better. She loved the way you explained her emotions to her, giving her a clearer vision of what she was feeling. It made it easier to express her feelings when she comes home to Will.
Spencer perked up, "I don't think so. She's very consistent with everything. She would've told us if she changed her number." He sat on his seat with his legs crisscrossed.
Derek didn't waste a minute and dialed your clinic's main landline. They should've been calling there to set an appointment anyways, but they were too attached to you to even bother. In their eyes, you were the whole clinic, no other psychiatrist available.
"Hi, you are calling from..." Multiple sighs of relief escaped out of the four of them when they finally got someone to pick up. "This is Alexa, what can I help you with today?"
"I wanted to set an appointment with Dr. L/N, does she have any open spots for this weekend?" Derek asked, making eye contact with the three agents with him, assuring them that everything was alright.
Until it wasn't.
"I'm sorry, Sir. Dr. L/N is not available right now but—"
"Is she on vacation?" Emily interjected, moving at the edge of her seat.
"Uh, who am I speaking to?"
They all exchanged looks. JJ leaned against Derek's desk, clearing her throat. "This is Jennifer Jareau from the FBI. I'm a friend of Dr. Y/N L/N and haven't been able to contact her in a while. I just wanted to ask if, by chance you have other means of contacting her?"
A long pause. Worry began to creep over their minds. They could hear murmurs and movements, and after three minutes of waiting, someone picked the phone back up.
"Good afternoon. My name is Dr. Basset, and I'm the head psychiatrist in the clinic. Unfortunately, we haven't heard of Dr. L/N since last Saturday. She hasn't been showing for her shift either. We were getting worried because she wasn't answering her personal cell and home landline. One of our staff knew where she lived, but her apartment was quiet. They said no one answered the door."
Well shit.
That wasn't normal for you to just disappear. You always notified the whole team three months before you would go on a vacation or a requested leave. So, you being unavailable with your means of communication spiked up their worry through the roof.
They nodded to each other, making a wordless agreement that whatever was happening, it was clear that it was not something they should take lightly.
"Okay, Dr. Basset. Is there a chance you can tell us any other information about Y/N? Her emergency contact, parents names, anything would help us." JJ swallowed the lump in her throat. Where could you be?
"Of course! Let me just go get it." Dr. Basset said, shuffling on his end.
Rossi walked out of his room with the intention of filling up his cup with another dose of coffee, but the expressions that the four agents had on their faces didn't pass his peripheral. "What happened? Did you all lose a bet with Garcia?"
Spencer turned his seat, "Dr. L/N is missing." He announced.
"Missing? Did someone report her missing?" Rossi knitted his brows. He wasn't frequent in your office, but he did have a monthly visit.
"She hasn't been to work for a week or answering any of our calls." Emily stated, biting the nail on her thumb.
"Call Hotch." Rossi told Emily, who didn't waste time nodding and went straight to Hotch's office. He looked at the others. "I know we everyone is tired from the case, but this one is very important."
Derek stood up, leather jacket wrapping his lean build. "You don't have to tell us twice." He glanced at Spencer, who was already standing, clutching his messenger bag. Then, to JJ, who nodded her chin of approval.
Emily was about to knock on Hotch's door when it swung open, a file in his hand. "We have a case." He announced.
"But-" Emily attempted to intervene, but he continued speaking.
"We need to find our psychiatrist, Dr. Y/N L/N. Penelope's on her way to debrief us. Gather in the conference room in five minutes."

I'll Be There for You - A Spencer Reid Fanfic (Spencer Reid X Reader)
Description: You and Spencer had become friends since he moved into your building. Slowly you fell for him only for him to find someone else. Warnings: Mentions of- death, depression. Angst and jealousy.

Perfection.
That's what you thought every time you saw your next-door neighbor. Pure perfection.
You knew who he was exactly. A FBI agent, part of the BAU, one of the greatest minds on the planet and he was your next-door neighbor.
He had just moved in a few months ago and ever since then, you'd catch yourself looking through your windows to see him walking off the bus and then running to the door to hear him walk up the stairs, only to open your door just as he was fumbling with his keys to do some mysterious tasks just so you could talk to him.
The first time you ever saw him was when he was unloading his stuff out of a moving van with a few friends, who you've come to know were his co-workers and practically his family. You were pulling up on your bike after a quick morning ride, to see the most gorgeous man turn to look at you as you braked the closer you got.
"Hello!" A cheerful blonde called out as you locked your bike near the entrance of your apartment building.
"Hi!" You had said quietly, suddenly getting nervous as four people, including the supermodel of a man, turned to look at you. You felt like they were looking you all over, analyzing you, which you had come to find out that they naturally do to everyone since it's their job.
"I'm Penelope! This is my friend Spencer; he's moving into the building!" The blonde said with the biggest smile plastered on her face. She was bubbly and confident which made you nervous since you were neither of those things.
"I'm Y/n, I live in 13B. It's nice to meet you." You briefly made eye contact with Spencer's sunglasses covered eyes before looking back down at your hands nervously.
"Did you know in most cultures 13 is considered an unlucky number and the bringer of bad luck? Most buildings skip the 13th floor entirely and most places don't number a house or apartment as the number 13 since it could bring bad luck to the area?" Spencer stated, looking at you.
"Um, I did know that actually. 13 is one of my favourite numbers and I also own a black cat too. So hopefully you don't have to be my neighbor." You chuckled trying to make a joke. The others laughed but Spencer just stood there looking at you.
"Actually, my apartment is number 11, and with how the building is organized with odd numbers on the left and even numbers on the right, I am more than likely your neighbor. Plus, I also don't believe in superstitions since there is no scientific proof that they harbor any bad luck."
You nodded. "Oh... well, um did you guys need any help with your stuff?" You motioned with your head to the van filled with boxes labeled books. "There is a service elevator just on the other side of the building that we can use to bring in the larger stuff."
"Thanks, that would be a big help." A handsome-looking gentleman said. "The name's Morgan." He said winking at you.
A dark-haired woman shook her head at Morgan, then said, "Why don't we pull out what we can and do an assembly line to the apartment then we can use the elevator for the larger furniture?"
"Sounds good!" Penelope said and everyone broke away from the huddle to start pulling boxes out.
After that day, the apartment next to yours was quiet. The front door never opened or closed, and you worried that your new neighbor was dead. Worried after the fifth day of not hearing anything you knocked on the door to no reply.
You had called your landlord and asked him if the next door was vacant since you were certain that no living soul was in there. He said Spencer was still renting and gave you his number to call.
You sent out a text two days later, hoping that he wasn't dead next door.
'Hi, this is Y/N from unlucky apartment 13. I just wanted to make sure you were okay since there's been no noise for the past week. I hope my bad luck didn't reach you!'
You tried keeping it light and friendly, hoping that your worrying didn't lead to the real thing happening.
You received a reply a day later to your surprise and relief.
'Hi, unlucky number thirteen. No, the bad luck has not caught up with me. I've been away on a case and have yet to be home. Thanks for checking up on me!'
You chuckled at the message and from then on you and Spencer exchanged texts every hour cracking small jokes.
It wasn't until you heard the keys jingle outside the door a few days later that you bolted out of your window seat and opened the door to find an exhausted Spencer trying to unlock his door.
He was so tired he didn't even realize you had been standing there watching him struggle for a few minutes until you cleared your throat making him jump, dropping his keys in the process.
You reached down to pick them up, and your hair flipped out of your face giving him the best view to see your beautiful smile light up your face as you handed him his keys back. He cleared his throat, hoping his face wasn't red even though it felt like it was burning. "Thanks." He mumbled and opened the door quickly only for it to open a foot.
Inside you could see boxes piled up blocking any sort of passage through.
Spencer tried to shimmy his way in but eventually had to put his back to the door, bracing himself as he pushed it open with his body.
"Did you want any help unpacking?" You ask chuckling as the maze of boxes piled up.
Spencer tilted his head to look at you then let out a tired breath. "Honestly, I'd love that, but I'm exhausted. I haven't slept in the past couple of days. If the offer still stands in the next couple of days, I'll take you up on it." He put on a small smile for you to show he appreciated your offer.
You nodded lightly, "Let me know when you're all set, I'd be more than glad to set a few hours aside to help you!"
And he did let you know a few days later. You heard a soft knock on the door and could hear him pace back and forth for a second while you pulled a blanket over your thin tank top and short shorts.
"Spencer?" You said surprised as you pulled open the door to reveal a very nervous man.
He wiped his hands on his pants and cleared his throat. "Does the offer still stand to help unpack? I tried unpacking myself and it is not going that well." His voice was barely a whisper at the end, and you ended up laughing a bit at how nervous he was.
He gulped at the sight of you laughing at what he said, hoping he didn't seem inadequate at something so simple as packing.
"I told you the offer would still stand so there is no need to be nervous, plus packing always goes better when you do it with someone. " You chuckled and closed your apartment door behind him.
He didn't move from where he was, so you ended up knocking into him a little bit. "Whoops, sorry!" You said trying to take a step back but there was nowhere to go with how close Spencer was to you.
He just continued to stare at you and then cleared his throat taking a step back. He headed back to his apartment as you followed behind in your fuzzy slippers. He opened the door as much as he could and held it open for you to shimmy inside. Your chest moving as you nudged your way inside made his face instantly heat up and his eyes go wide as he tore his eyes away from your thin top.
'Get it together Spencer. She's helping you out, it's not time to check her out.' He thought to himself shaking his head as the image flashed back into his head.
"So where do you want to start?" Your voice rang out to him, making the thought of your chest disappear.
"Um," his voice cracked a bit as he tried to control it, "I think we should start in the kitchen since it has the most breakable stuff."
He led the way to the kitchen and you both started tearing through boxes and pulling out items, asking him where he would want things to which he was clueless on what would go better where so he left it up to you. In fact, he left every part of his house up to you on how it should be arranged. He just followed your orders and moved items to where they needed to go, his face turning bright red when you'd catch him staring at you making you blush slightly.
After that, Spencer and you became close friends and frequented each other's apartments often for movie night, to play games, to talk or just to read each other's massive collection of books. After a while, you both had a key to each other's house and you'd often find Spencer in your reading corner, which you had put a special chair just for him in, and he would find you making something delicious in his kitchen as you sang along to some k-pop song off-key.
You both grew to be best friends, closer than he and JJ were, and he'd often take you to team functions as his plus one. You were slowly falling in love with the tall nerdy genius, and you thought he felt the same way until one day he mentioned a girl that he was talking to.
Maeve.
Movie nights turned into Maeve nights. Nightly walks were only to phone booths where you would sit outside on the curb waiting for Spencer to be done, and weekly bookstore trips were only to look for a book Maeve suggested in her nightly phone calls.
Soon everything you once did together started going away and Spencer wasn't the same guy you first fell for.
You'd make him dinners for when he'd come back home from cases only for none of it to be touched. Books you bought that you knew he was waiting to be released would be left untouched and piling up on the table by the door.
The team would fill you in and let you know he was okay at least once a week since you never saw or heard from him anymore.
Sure, you were happy that Spencer found someone, it broke your heart that it wasn't you, but you were still happy for your friend. But soon, Spencer didn't want your company as he used to want it. Everything slowly was crumbling, and you were left in the dark from him.
It lasted for ten months before it all stopped. No noise, no movement, not even a breath was heard in the apartment next to yours. The team would come by, and he wouldn't open up his door to any of them.
Maeve died and Spencer was broken.
It lasted like that for months. You tried not to linger by his door on your way to and from work. You tried not to care too deeply for someone that dropped you months ago. You tried your hardest not to think about Spencer Reid. And it almost worked.
You were putting on your heels for a night out with the girls. In the last few months, the girls of the BAU team became super close even with Emily flying in every so often to meet up. Penelope had suggested a girl's night out with dinner, drinking and dancing. The three D's as she liked to call it. And for someone lucky they got the fourth D at the end of the night, and in PG terms she called it dessert.
Looking into the mirror, you looked back at yourself checking every part of your outfit over. A tight, sparkly black over the shoulder sleeved mini dress with black strappy heels. You had gone all out on your makeup, something one of your friends from college taught you how to do to get extra money on the weekends, and you had curled your hair in loose waves.
You sighed, fidgeting with the hem of your dress, a bit uncomfortable with how much skin was showing. You had been slowly building your confidence up the last few months you spent with Spencer since he showed you that it was okay to be you and that you didn't have to hide it, and you were trying to keep building confidence up even though he wasn't there anymore.
Your phone buzzed and you saw that it was Penelope messaging you that they were there. Grabbing your bag and stuffing your phone inside you headed out and stopped to look at Spencer's door, littered with baskets of self-care stuff and dead flowers. You missed him, but the door was a reflection of what he wanted, to close everyone out and drown out the world.
Dinner went by in a flash, full of laughter and drinks, and you were headed to the club when Penelope shrieked besides you.
"You okay, hun?" You asked chuckling at the girl next to you that was practically hyperventilating.
Instead of giving you an answer she just waved her phone around until JJ grabbed it and looked at what was pulled up. "Wow..." JJ mumbled. She showed you and Emily what seemed to be a picture. Emily blew it up and there all the guys from the BAU including Will were lined up on the wall dressed up in suits with stern expressions on their face.
"Daddy Morgan is looking so fine." Penelope whispered causing you to laugh loudly.
"Oh my god, is that Spencer?" Emily gasped.
All four of you leaned closer in to look at the line up of men. Morgan, Rossi, Hotch, Will and Spencer. Morgan had his best smolder on, Rossi did not look pleased to be there, Hotch looked tired, Will stood there like a deer in headlights and Spencer looked so tired that it broke your heart a little.
"I know, I know I said it was a girl's night but the boys were getting Spencer out of the house and at least out doing normal human things so I said they could tag along. Please don't be mad." Giving you her best pleading look.
"I think it's a good idea to get Spencer out of the house. Y/N is that okay with you?" JJ asked you concerned. She could see you tense up after Penelope said she invited them.
Nodding your head as a reply you looked back at the picture on Penelope's phone staring a hole into Spencer's digital self until you had to see the real thing.
You made it through the club's line quicker than expected, all thanks to Emily flirting with the female bouncer, and you headed inside, music blaring, to find the table the guys reserved for you. Emily could see you fidgeting with your bag, so she pulled you over to the bar and ordered a round of shots. "Liquid courage." She said as she handed you a glass. You ended up downing five shots and one mixed drink until Emily pulled you over to the table to drop your bags off to dance.
"Damn, princess, you are looking good." Morgan whistled to you, winking as you shrugged playfully.
"I see you girls are dressed up nicely, did we interrupt girls' night?" Rossi asked, taking a sip of his drink.
"Kind of, but we can still pull in our catch." Emily winked as she replied back.
Your eyed slowly drifted around the table as everyone engaged in conversations with each other until your eyes landed on Spencer who was staring at you with his jaw locked. You stared at each other for a few minutes before you felt a light touch on your shoulder. Looking up, you saw a handsome man smiling down at you.
"Hi, Y/N, right? I'm Jesse, we met at the bookstore last week."
"Oh, hi!" The table growing silent as they eyed the newcomer at the table, and you knew they were unintentionally profiling him. You could feel Spencer's eyes drilled into your back.
"I just saw you and was hoping it was you. I wanted to thank you for that book recommendation for my class! Surprisingly the sixth graders enjoyed it."
"I'm so glad to hear that! I read it to my class not too long ago and they loved it!"
Jesse nodded and looked up at the table. "Oh, I'm being rude. I'll leave ya be to your friends!"
"No, no! That's okay!" Penelope practically screamed out. "Y/N was looking for someone to dance with, if you want to dance." You swerved in your seat to give her a death glare before politely smiling back up at Jesse.
Jesse chuckled, "Um, if you want to dance, I'd like to accompany you." He extended his hand out and you gently took it letting him lead you to the dance floor.
Spencer scoffed, as he watched you two walked away. Rossi eyed him and shook his head. "What?" He asked the older man. "The guy was obviously into her. He was practically eyeing her body the entire time. And the excuse of coming over here to thank her for recommending a book! Lame."
"I never thought I'd hear Reid use the word lame before." Morgan muttered to Hotch.
"I thought the guy was nice. I see him come into the station to help out with the toy drives and I hear he helps out at all the shelters around town." Will commented causing Spencer to roll he eyes.
The table grew silent for a few minutes and the girls went off the dance, Will in tow, and Reid was left with three men who knew him the best looking at him.
Spencer took a sip of his water, trying not to let on that he was suddenly uncomfortable with all three men staring at him.
"I think we have a jealous Reid." Rossi finally said, breaking the silence.
Hotch laughed, "I think you're right. Maybe you should just tell her you like her."
Spencer shook his head confused and took another sip of his drink. "I just got out a relationship, which did not end well. How could I suddenly be jealous of her? She just met the guy for a second time."
All three men laughed at Spencer's remarks making him more puzzled at what they were saying.
Morgan cleared his throat, "No, not jealous of her in that way. Jealous of the guy she's with. As soon as she walked in you have been eyeing her, and when Jesse showed up you got mad at her for giving her attention to another guy. Even now your eyes have been following her around." Morgan explained.
"And don't say it's for her safety. She's quite safe surrounded by two fully trained agents and one police officer." Rossi chimed in.
"You like her, just tell her that." Hotch spoke up next, "What you had with Maeve was meaningful and real, but it was also mostly through a phone and there was so many secrets she kept from you. You should be with someone that you don't have to hide from. Someone that can be your best friend when you need it and is always there for you."
Spencer just nodded and turned his gaze towards you, watching as you drunkenly swayed your body to the music.
"Maybe I will, but I also don't know what to feel, and she means too much to me to use to figure out my own feelings." He starred at you as you laughed and danced. He was happy you were having fun, but he always wished his arms were wrapped around you as you both danced the night away.

Out of Class
Tumblr media
When you started your job, you were told that Jack Hotchner was always picked up by his Aunt Jessica; his dads job always got in the way of being able to pick Jack up from school himself. However, since your second week on the job, you realised that Jack’s dad had been there to pick his son up every day. However, it wasn’t until you had been Jack’s teacher for about a month before you plucked up the courage to speak to him.
From the moment you’d set eyes on him, you’d found Mr Hotchner incredibly attractive. He was exactly your type; tall, dark hair, dark eyes, overall, incredibly clean cut and you couldn’t help but be intrigued as to why, all of a sudden, he was there every afternoon, 3pm on the dot to pick Jack up.
‘Hi, you must be Mr Hotchner,’ you greeted when you walked over with Jack at the end of the day.
‘Hi, call me Aaron,’ he replied with a charming smile as he shook your hand.
‘I’m really sorry for asking, but I was told that it would be Jack’s aunt picking him up,’ you spoke, trying not to blush at the smile that seemed to be lingering on Aaron’s lips as he looked at you.
‘Oh, I just thought that I didn’t want to miss Jack growing up so I’ve cut my hours at work so I can pick him up and spent more time with him,’ he said, ruffling Jack’s hair affectionately.
‘My daddy has a crush on you,’ Jack said, making Aaron laugh nervously and your cheeks flush bright red.
‘Why don’t you go and play with your friends for a little bit bud,’ Aaron prompted, nudging Jack in the direction of his friends who were kicking a football around the playground. As soon as Jack had run off and was out of earshot, Aaron turned back to you, his own cheeks flushed red. ‘I’m really sorry about that, Jack just has this idea that I - ’
‘It’s fine, really,’ you replied, cutting of Aaron’s rambling. ‘Kids say a lot, you don’t have to worry about it.’
‘Exactly! And I’m sure you’re happy married or something so I’m sure you don’t need to have Jack telling you about his dad having a crush on his teacher who is part of the reason why he started turning up at the school at least twenty minutes early, just in case he gets the opportunity to talk to her.’ Aaron said, a nervous chuckle making its way from his throat as he rubbed his palm on the back of his neck.
‘Actually, I’m not married, and I’m not with anyone either,’ you said, smiling shyly at him.
‘I know,’ Aaron replied, grinning at you now. ‘I’m a profiler at the BAU, I just wanted to give you an out when I ask if you wanted to go on a day, you know, out of classroom hours?’
You let the giggle bubble out of your chest as you took a step closer to him, Aaron’s hands tentatively coming out to rest gently on your waist. ‘I’d love to,’ you replied, smiling up at him. ‘But I am going to have to ask that you don’t spend the date profiling me.’
‘I promise. I can pick you up Friday night at 7?’
‘It’s a date,’ you replied, kissing his cheek lightly before turning around and heading back into the school.
What you didn’t see was Jack running back up to Aaron when you left. ‘Did she say yes?’ he asked, out of breath from playing with his friends and running back over to his dad.
‘She sure did bud!’

Love Comes Quietly Ch 2
Tumblr media
Eventual Alex Blake x reader warnings: mentions of usual CM case work/violence, mentions of alcohol.
Alex’s phone buzzed the next afternoon, a smile gracing her cheeks when she picked it up to see the message from an unsaved number, realizing it was you.
‘Woke up to an email from Prentiss, your word travels fast.’
‘Only for the best. Good luck. Let me know if you need to pick my brain for anything, I’m always open for help.’
‘You’re a gem. Have a safe flight home.’
You signed it off with a smiley face that made Alex smile, tucking her phone back into her pocket and continue on about her day. She had an open weekend to explore Boston and she wasn’t going to let that go to waste.
*
Alex was back in DC before she knew it, settling right back in at the BAU and unsurprisingly, she didn’t even have time to unpack before it was wheel’s up and they were off on a case. It was back up the coast she went, though this time the jet landing in New York City. There was brief chatter on the ride up about the rumours of the team getting a new agent, knowing that Emily was in the midst of doing interviews, and the chatter exploded when Alex mentioned she had met one of them already. It was one question after the other rapid fire style as she explained with a laugh that she’d only just met you and got as much of a read as she could over a few hours but honestly didn’t know that much. She did mention that she did really like you and thought you’d fit in well with the rest of the team though.
“Is she also a Professor?” Spencer asked, leaning forward in his seat, his attention fully on Blake.
“Better question is what was she drinking? Could she handle a whiskey night?” Rossi asked with a grin.
“Y’all are missing the main point.” Derek smirked, “she single? You have a picture?”
That earned him a swat on the head with the case file in Emily’s hand as she wandered back from the front of the jet.
“Would you hold off on the interrogation until I’ve actually hired someone?” She asked with a groan, “and believe me, I’m pretty sure she’s not interested in you, even if she is single.”
“How would you know that?” Derek asked with a scoff as she took a seat across the aisle.
“Who do you think is on the one doing the interviews?”
“Do you really have to ask those kind of questions in an interview? I mean, is that appropriate?” Reid asked, his brow furrowing and Emily let out a sigh.
“Personal relationships are something that they don’t have to comment on and I’m not really supposed to ask so its part of the pre or post small talk, but I prefer to know if someone’s married, if they have kids. It doesn’t sway my opinion on hiring at all, it’s just nice to know. Especially for someone like Murphy who’d be moving to a completely new state.”
“The question remains…. Is she single?” Derek raised a brow and Alex chuckled.
“You’re gonna have to give it up Morgan, she’s not into men.”
“I knew it!” Emily gasped, “oh I just knew it!”
“You really picked that up from just a phone call?” Derek asked with a laugh and Emily shot him a look.
“It’s like a sixth sense. We just know.” She turned back to Alex, “it drove me a little crazy all week, I was debating asking you if you knew but I didn’t wanna overstep.”
“Oh I knew.” Alex chuckled, “she seems to be pretty open about it, I don’t think she minds it being public knowledge.” Emily surveyed her for a moment, her head tilting as she examined the other woman.
“Did you two…?”
“Emily!” Alex laughed, a scoff taking over her face, “I was staying with James! I’m not that rude of a house guest. And no. When I say we clicked instantly I mean platonically, like we were best friends in a past life.”
“Waste of an opportunity, she’s a babe.”
“Oh come on!” Derek finally chimed in, leaving the other two women laughing.
“Calm down Morgan.” Emily teased, “I haven’t even hired her yet.” She turned back to Alex, “you know, it’s a shame he knows already. Would’ve been fun to see how long he would’ve kept hitting on her until she finally said something.”
“Oh that would’ve been too fun.” Alex smirked across at him, “she probably would’ve gotten a couple free dinners out of it.”
“You guys are just plain mean.” Derek shot back, picking up his head phones in an attempt to ignore them the rest of the flight.
Alex and Emily simply chuckled in return, picking up the case files in front of them.
*
They spent three days in New York chasing leads around Manhattan until they finally managed to catch the unsub in the far too early hours of Saturday morning. Emily insisted paperwork could wait until actual office hours, sending the team back to the hotel in the meantime. She was also insistent on them taking one more night in the city, both to help wind down and because the jet needed to refuel before it would be flown out to pick them up.
Insomnia and adrenaline got the best of Alex, tossing and turning for a few hours in the hard hotel bed before she gave up, flicking the television on to distract herself. She was at the precinct bright and early, second only to Emily, who by the looks of things also hadn’t actually slept. It was silently that the other woman poured out a fresh mug of coffee and slid it across the table as Alex pulled up a chair. She quickly worked through the required paperwork, letting out a sigh when she realized her mug was empty. She made the trip to the break room to refill it, but once back at the table she took a sip and let out a groan, glancing up at Emily.
“I cannot drink this shit anymore. There’s a shop around the corner, you mind if I take a quick break?”
“Blake, you’ve been here hours longer than anyone else, just take the half day.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah.” Emily laughed in return, “only reason I’m still here is cause I’m waiting on everyone else’s paperwork.”
“Oh thank god.” Alex replied, “thank you.”
Gathering her things she was quick to leave the precinct, wandering down the street debating if she was going to hit up the coffee shop originally planned or explore something else now that she had the rest of the afternoon. In a last second decision she crossed the street to the café, figuring maybe a coffee boost was all she needed, pulling open the door as the bell rang over her head. It was relatively empty inside, a couple of people sitting at tables with laptops or text books out, an elderly couple waiting for their drinks at the pick up station and a woman not much younger than herself up at the counter. It was only when the woman turned around that her eyes grazed up the legging and hoodie clad body to realize it was you.
“Alex?” Your brow furrowed for a moment.
“Y/N?” A smile broke out on her cheeks as the two of you quickly stepped together for a hug without even thinking about it, “what’re you doing here?”
“In town with some friends.” You shrugged, tucking a bottle of water under your arm, “I take it you’re here about that string of acid attacks?”
“You would be correct.”
“How’s that going?”
“Caught the guy last night.” She replied with a tired smile, “well, this morning rather.”
“Explains the midday pick me up then.”
You teased and she laughed, watching the way you spun around at the sound of your name being called from the pick up station and you moved out of the way so she could order. It was clear you hadn’t been planning on running into anyone, aside from the lazy, comfy clothes (that she wished she could be wearing in that moment) your hair was tugged up into a messy bun, it looked like you still had last night’s mascara on and there were sunglasses on the top of your head despite it being the middle of October. She ordered a large flat white and opted to add on a house made French toast bagel, considering she was in New York after all. She couldn’t help but chuckle when she joined you at the pick up station, the water bottle still tucked under your arm, coffee in one hand that you were currently drinking out of, and some kind of juice or refresher in the other.
“Got enough to drink there?” She teased and you practically scowled.
“Hydration.” You gestured to the water under your arm, “caffeination, flavoured hydration.” A pause while the barista called your name again, placing a bagel wrapped up on the counter for you to pick up after you transferred both drinks into one hand, “sustenance.”
“Late night, I take it?” She smirked, watching you miraculously open the bagel with one hand before taking a bite.
“Don’t wanna talk about it.”
“Grab a table before you drop something. I’ll stay and eat with you.” She chuckled. Though before you got the chance the bell above the door chimed once again and she turned toward the noise, her eyes widening at the sight of Emily entering the café. “Oh please don’t tell me something already came up?”
“No.” The other woman replied with a slight huff, “you put the idea of a good coffee in my brain and I couldn’t get rid of it.” She replied, walking up to the two of you, “who’s your friend?”
“Agent Prentiss?” You asked, your brow furrowing slightly, recognizing her voice from the phone interview previously.
“Oh shit!” She gasped in realization, “you must be y/n!” She stuck her hand out and Alex was impressed once again as you managed to shuffle everything around in order to shake it without dropping anything. “I thought you were Boston based. Sorry,” she suddenly winced with a small laugh, “that wasn’t exactly professional.”
“I am.” You replied with a soft laugh, “and it’s fine. Not exactly here for work, obviously.” You gestured down to your outfit the best you could with no hands.
“Hey…” Emily started, “if you’re here.. and I’m here why don’t we just do the in person interview today? Save you a flight out to DC?”
“Uh… Agent Prentiss… to be blunt? I am violently hungover right now.” You admitted and Alex barked out a laugh, “like, we’re talking I rolled out of bed fifteen minutes ago. Haven’t even showered, still covered in glitter under this hoodie.”
“Girls trip?” Emily asked.
“Bachelorette party weekend.”
“Ah.”
“And considering it was male strippers last night? My choices were to either bleach my eyes or get drunk enough to hope I’d be able to forget it.” Both of them grimaced at that, Emily pulling a face of absolute disgust.
“I’m not the hungover one and I’m pretty sure I just threw up in my mouth.”
“Yeah.” You laughed, “so I’m not sure if my brain is exactly prime interview ready right now.”
“I mean, the in persons are probably the easiest.” She offered, “I usually just have people run through a case and build the profile on their own and see what their findings are compared to ours.”
“I might be able to handle that.”
“How about…” she dug into her back pocket for a minute, pulling out a business card, “I let you get some caffeine into your system, maybe a shower so you feel more like a human and then you can call me? We’re here ‘til two tomorrow. Not that I want to intrude on your vacation!”
“Please.” You laughed, “if it gets me away from having to see any more penis confetti or straws, I’ll gladly take it. And the girls can’t complain if I can actually say it’s work.” You managed to take the card from her, slipping into the pocket of the hoodie.
“I’m honestly amazed you haven’t dropped anything yet.” Alex commented, pulling laughs from both you and Emily.
“She’s one of us that doesn’t need a bag.” Emily cut in with a grin, “pockets are all you need.”
“Exactly.” You laughed, “purses are the worst! I have two perfectly good hands! Okay, I’m gonna go hydrate and caffeinate, I’ll call you in a bit?”
“Are you close by?”
“Yup, Hilton just around the corner.”
“You have your creds on you?”
“Yeah.”
“Just come by the precinct whenever you’re ready. I’ll be there til five.”
“Okay.” You nodded, glancing back to Alex, “guess I’m not eating in. We could grab dinner? There’s an amazing Mexican place a couple blocks away.”
“That sounds great.” She smiled.
“You’re more than welcome to come too.” You offered to Emily, “but if the interview goes terribly you’re footing the bill.” Emily laughed,
“I like you already. We’ll see how long it takes my team to finish up.”
“Kay.” You smiled, doing your best to give a little wave, “I’ll see you later.” With a wave from the other two women the bell above the door chimed and you vanished from the café. Emily turned back to Alex with a smirk on her lips.
“Blake, I swear to god if you don’t hit that…”
“Are you gonna order your coffee!?”
“Oh… right.” Emily turned away with a chuckle, placing her order before joining Alex at one of the smaller tables, placing down a cup of coffee and a container of yogurt. “You know I’m not trying to actually pressure you into anything, right?”
“I know.” She replied with a chuckle, “you just find extreme entertainment by torturing others.”
“I’d say torture is pushing the bill a bit. You’re single now, you should be out having fun. I’ve gotta live vicariously through someone and it sure as hell isn’t gonna be Morgan.”
“If I remember correctly, you’re single?” Alex commented with a cocked brow.
“Married to the job.” She replied, eating a spoonful of yogurt.
“So why aren’t you asking her out then?”
“If I hire her, I’m her boss. If I don’t, a; I look like an asshole and b; we’re living in different states. Besides, as cute as she is, she’s not my go to type. And you got to her first.”
“Emily…” Alex warned, letting out an exasperated sigh. The other woman’s eyes narrowed, examining her for a moment and she rolled her eyes, sometimes she hated the fact that she worked with and thus was friends with, so many profilers.
“Are you nervous because you’ve never fully been with a woman before?”
“I have enough experience with women, both pre and post marriage.”
“Good.” Emily murmured over the rim of her coffee, “because I don’t want to have to coach you through that.” Her eyes gleamed with the tease as she grinned across the table and Alex tossed a balled up napkin in her direction as they both laughed.
“Would never have crossed my mind to even ask.”
“I could give you some excellent toy recommendations though.”
“Prentiss I’m not having this conversation in public or without alcohol.”
Emily’s laugh was interrupted by her phone going off on the table top and she frowned as she picked it up, eyes scrolling through the text.
“New case?”
“No, it’s Reid. Victims parents want to talk me specifically.” With a soft sigh she pushed up from the table, tossing the empty yogurt into the trash and picking up her coffee, “I’ll see you later.”
*
As it turned out, your interview went far better than you could have expected considering the brain fog you were still battling off. Though you knew Emily had to be cutting you some amount of slack, the entire thing was far more casual than what you were prepared for. You were sure some of that was due to it being the end of her current case and nearing the end of the day, the precinct bare but those required to work the weekend shifts.
Emily found herself drawn to you practically immediately, even more so than over the phone and she understood what Alex had been talking about. Something had clicked that day, whether it was in the coffee shop or later on, she knew that she liked you and that you’d make an absolutely perfect addition to her team. Even with the hangover you managed to put together a perfect profile in a short amount of time, and never once grimaced at any crime scene photos or unsubs histories. By the time five o clock hit she knew she was hiring you, though she didn’t say anything, it technically still had to go through the brass. She unfortunately ended up getting roped into consulting on a local pd case and said goodnight to you before you left the precinct to text Alex about dinner.
Alex was more than happy to see you in high spirits after your afternoon, excited that things had gone so well. She also knew in that moment that she could forever trust your food recommendations, the place you’d chosen for dinner was beyond incredible and she’d wished it was in DC instead of New York. If she was ever back in the city, there was no doubt she’d be returning. There were a few moments she couldn’t help but tease, suggesting a tequila flight that you instantly gagged at, glaring at her from across the table, a margarita was the perfect hair of the dog, nothing more.
Similar to the evening in Boston she couldn’t help but feel like she was on a cloud around you, that you’d known each other for a decade already and if she had asked you would’ve said that you felt the same. There was absolutely no way that the universe hadn’t intended for the two of you to meet, to be friends. Three meetings by absolute fluke already, there was no doubt in Alex’s mind that you would be showing up on the steps of the BAU within a couple of weeks. You were destined to be in her life.

stress relief
So my amazing friend ceebs or @maladaptive-day-dreams convinced me to write a st x cm crossover and well...Hopper/Reader/Hotch was born.
SUMMARY: Hopper and Hotch are working late when they decide to have some fun with the shoplifter that got dragged into the station earlier that day
WC:3134
WARNINGS: spit roasting, degrading, MMF threesome, reader's age is not confirmed but she IS 18+, spoiled brat! reader, rich!reader, modern!st, choking, name-calling, basic cm shit. not proofread
The BAU was called into a small town of indiana, Hawkins to be exact, the run of the mill serial killer who had a knack for kidnapping. The team could already tell this was going to be a hard case, seeing as the killer didn’t seem to have a type.
“How long does he keep them?” Emily pipes up, the file was already hard to Figure out since there was apparently no specific time frame the killer stuck to.
“As of now that is undetermined…the local police there doesn’t have a single lead despite how small the town is.” Hotch told her, “Which is the exact reason we’ve been called in. They’ve been dealing with most likely the same killer for years so they thought a fresh pair of eyes would be good.”
“So they have basically nothing?” The team asks at the same time, and Hotch nods.
“It’s definitely not ideal but we have delt with worse…” Hotch’s statement was met with a chorus of agreement, they have delt with worse evidence before.
Once the jet landed the team immediately went to the Hawkins police department, not wanting to waste another second not solving this case. Walking into the department they were almost immediately met with a bustling space of police officers. As they stood there looking around trying to find anyone that could help them, they hear a deep voice from behind them.
“You guys the BAU?” the voice asks, as they turn around they’re met with a broad man with facial hair, he was a little chubby but they could tell he was at least a little fit.
“Yes we are, I’m Unit Cheif Aaron Hotchner, this is SSA Morgan, JJ, Prentiss and Dr. Reid.” Hotch introduces each of them, pointing to the respective person.
“I’m Jim Hopper, chief of police.” They do the routine of shaking hands before Hopper shows them where they can set up.
“So what do you know about the killer we’re working with?” Hotch asks, hoping that getting information out of the file they were giving would somehow help them.
Hopper scratches his head “Only that he’s one sick son of a bitch, while the time he keeps his victims are undetermined…we never find them, its like they just vanish into thin air.” Hotch nods, “okay, yeah, that’s actually helpful.” Hopper nods, before leaving them to work.
—---
It had Only been a week and the team and the entire police department were stressed out of their minds. Still no new leads, suspects, nothing, It was as if the Killer was a ghost or something. It was 2pm when they dragged in a screaming girl, saying something about how her father will bail her out. They dragged her back into a holding cell about 20 minutes later as they weren’t getting an answer from anyone they called.
Hotch walked out to where Hopper was standing with his arms crossed, looking over some officers desk and at his computer.
“Don’t forget this is her third time-” Hopper looked over to Hotch with a questioning look.
“Who was that? A suspect or-”
Hopper laughed at his question, “God no, that was y/n l/n, she has some sticky fingers and has gotten caught shoplifting about three times now…we call her our resident spoiled brat. She comes from a rich family that resides here in Hawkins.”
Hotch’s eyebrows raised at hearing that you came from a rich family.
“If she’s rich why does she feel the need to shoplift?”
“Daddy doesn’t give her attention, never has, i’ve caught her flirting with multiple of my officers before aswell.”
Hotch nods “The typical daddy issues story…of course.”
—--
It was late, Hotch was at one of the open desks, he needed to get out of the confined office space that was the conference room they were set up in before he went crazy.
He looked over at the clock that told him it was about 1:15. He sighed, looking over to where Hopper was.
“Did anyone ever come and get that one girl that got brought in earlier?”
Hopper looked up from the file he was focused on and shook his head.
“Nope, we called her daddy probably 5 times and he didn’t pick up, my guess is he’s tired of bailing his troublemaker daughter out.” Hotch laughed at that, usually in rich families that is the case, especially if its already known she’s trouble.
“You’d think he’d be trying to cover up her arrest by now”
“Oh he did the first two times…but this time she got caught at a busy hour with hundreds of people watching and word travels fast in a town like this.”
Hotch laughs and nods once again, going back to the file infront of him. Another hour went by before Hopper got up grabbing Aarons attention.
“I’m gonna check on our spoiled prisoner? Wanna come? Stretch your legs a little…actually fix your posture?” Hopper asks him and Aaron agrees, getting up and following the other man into the holding cell area.
You were sat on the bed that they placed in the cell, leaning against the wall and facing the bars, you had no idea what time it was but the lack of guards told you that it was late. You perked up and the sound of a door opening and the sound of footsteps approaching, you had hoped it was Hopper or one of the officers coming with your father.
While the man that accompanied Hopper wasn’t your father you definitely weren’t disappointed. He was tall and broad, dark hair resting ontop of his head and a suit telling that wasn’t a cop, he was fucking hot, he practically oozed dominance, just like Hopper did, telling you he was in a positon of power.
“Ooo who’s this?” you ask, getting up from your spot and walking up to the bars and leaning against them, hoping to get a better look of the mystery man. “You are definitely not a cop..”
Hotch looks down at you, and heat travels straight to your core at the realization that even from behind the bars he still has to look down to see you.
“Your right, i’m a FBI agent.” God even his voice was sexy, you bit your lip staring at him, before you turned your attention to Hopper.
“Why are you guys here? Did daddy finally pick up?” you ask the two men, only to be met with a head shake.
“You might be stuck here for a little while if your waiting for your daddy to bail you out.” Hopper told you and you groaned.
“Then why the fuck are you here?”
“Just to check on you, the routine.”
You leaned against the bars once again, bored out of your mind.
“Can’t you just…let me go? I mean you already know the bail and fine will be paid…”
Hopper sighed, “You know damn well I can’t do that, its a good way to lose my job.”
You pouted, giving him your best puppy eyes,
“Pleasee Hop…I promise to be on best behavior when I get out, I won’t tell anyone, pink promise!”
“No is the final answer sweetheart, Those puppy eyes have no effect on me and you know that. Also how many times have I told you not to call me that.
While you were talking to Hopper Aaron finally got a good look at you, you were wearing a short white crop top that read ‘angel’ across your boobs, paired with an equally short pink skirt, if you could even call it that, it only came up to the tops of your thighs.
“Can you at least let me out for a little bit? I’m bored out of my mind in here.” Aaron looked at Hopper, expecting him to say no and just leave it at that, instead he fished the cells keys out of his pocket and unlocked the cell.
“Turn around.” he told you in a stern voice
“Seriously you know I won’t-”
“He said turn around, your lucky we’re even letting you leave this cell at all.” Hotch snapped at you, using the same tone Hopper had. You rolled your eyes before turning around and placing your hands behind your back.
You felt warm hands before the cold metal of the handcuffs, you guessed it was Hopper because of how rough he was with your arms.
“Ow! Too tight!” you whined when he tightened them, your back automatically straightening at the pressure on your wrists.
“They’re not and you know it, stop being fucking dramatic.” you heard Hoppers gruff voice from behind you before he escorted you out to the office area of the police department.
“Sit” He told you, pushing you into the chair next to his desk, you did what you were told, just glad you were out of the dingy cell. Looking around the station you were able to stare at the FBI agent, noticing the obvious stress on both of their faces.
“Hey FBI agenttt” you called out to him in a singsongy voice, grabbing his attention, once you were sure you had his attention you asked his name, since neither him or Hopper had mentioned it.
“My name is Aaron Hotchner.” He told you with the most monotone voice you have probably heard come from anyones mouth. You smiled at him, before looking at Hopper.
“Why can’t you be that nice to me? He actually gave me a clear answer without calling me a name…” you pouted and  Hopper looked at you before looking towards Aaron, “Because he doesn’t know how much of a spoiled brat you can be.”
“But I think I’m starting to learn.” Aaron chimed in, you gasped, looking at both men infront of you,
“I’m not a spoiled brat!” you huffed, and the two men looked at eachother and Hopper laughed,
“Thats something only a brat would say!” Hopper told you, and Hotch agreed with him.
“I would cross my arms if I could right now I hope you know that.”
“We know sweetheart, we know.” is all Hopper said before getting back to work, Hotch joining him and returning to the file he had been going over and over for hours already.
Only a few minutes had passed before you spoke up.
“Are you sure there’s nothing that can get me out of here without my dad?! Seriously I’ll do anything! Please! Just name what you want!” you begged, tearing the mens attention away from their work, Hopper glared at you.
“What part of no do you not understand? Were you never told it growing up?”
“No” You giggled, “I got everything I asked for so I wouldn’t bother my daddy” you smirked at the dumbfounded faces on the two men.
“Oh don’t act like your surprised my family is rich, we could afford the things I wanted!”
“No fucking wonder your so spoiled, you got everything you wanted just by being annoying.” Hopper grumbled, and you just beamed.
“And I’m very good at being annoying” You smirked again “So you should just let me go now, i’ll talk to my father when I get home and he can pay-”
Aaron got up and walked to where you were sitting, grabbing a handful of your hair.
“Or maybe we should just duct tape your mouth shut, that way you can’t bother us…or better yet…” He trailed off looking at Hopper, “We could use her as some…stress relief”
Hopper smirked at his suggestion, “I think thats an amazing idea actually” You felt heat pool in your belly immediately and the hungry gazes that the two men gave you, “She’d probably enjoy it too, wouldn’t you sweetheart?” Hopper got up to stand next to Hotch, his hand grabbing your chin. You nodded quickly, if you weren’t going to be let out tonight this was the next best outcome, at least you wouldn’t be bored anymore.
“Words pretty girl.” Hotch spoke up, letting go of your hair.
“Yes, fuck yes, please” You once again begged.
“You sound so much better when your begging” Hopper told you before yanking you out of your seat, forcing you onto your stomach over his desk.
“Lets see…which end do you want first, Hotch? Mouth or pussy?” Hopper asked standing next to your figure.
“I’ll take her mouth first, you’ve known the little slut longer, you deserve her cunt.”
Hopper smirked wildly before taking his place behind you, flipping your skirt up he tuts when he sees the damp patch in your panties, “God you really are a slut, your already wet, love the idea of two men old enough to be your father using you?” You nod and he slaps your ass harshly, obviously expecting a verbal response.
“Yes!” You don’t know you manage to even form a verbal response when Hotch is infront of you undoing his belt, his hands are so big they practically cover the entirety of the buckle and it has you fucking drooling. He’s only half hard and yet you can tell that he’s big. You already knew Hopper was big the few times he had to pin you against a wall just to put handcuffs on you.
You already knew you most likely wouldn’t be doing a whole lot of talking after this…
Hotch taps your cheek with a mumbled ‘open”, you opened your mouth welcoming his half hard cock into your mouth, while Hopper ran his fingers through your wet cunt, he eventually sinks one finger into your waiting hole causing you to moan around Aarons cock, which caused the other man to groan. He tangled his fingers in your hair, beginning to fuck your face.
Hopper added another finger into your hole, slowing finger fucking you, your muffled moans turned into slight gagging as Hopper hit your g-spot with his fingers at the same time Hotch forced his cock to the back of your throat.
“You can take it.” Hopper told you before removing his fingers from your cunt, wiping his fingers against the skin of your thigh. Causing you to whine at the feeling.
“Oh be fucking quiet, your lucky we’re even using you right now.” Hotch spoke up from above you, hearing Hoppers belt hit the floor and his pant being unzipped sent another flood of arousal through you. Wiggling your hips you couldn’t wait to be filled by his cock.
Hopper pushed his cock into you and you felt your eyes roll into the back of your head, between Hotch’s cock and his you felt so fucking full, you really wished you weren’t handcuffed so you had something to hold onto.
You practically shrieked around Aarons cock when Hopper bottomed out, almost immediately pulled out until only the tip of his cock remained in your cunt before pushing all the way in.
The two men smiled wickidely as they heard you splutter around Aarons cock when they timed their thrusts together.
“Fuuck Her mouth is fucking amazing…” Hotch mumbled, watching as his cock dissappeared into your mouth over and over again, “I’m not gonna last much longer…” He groaned as he felt your tongue run over a vein that was on the underside of his dick.
“Shit me neither, her cunt is so fucking tight she’s practically sucking me in…” Hoppers hands were digging into your hips, sure to leave bruises that would last for weeks.
The two men shared a look before they both pulled out of you, much to your distaste, you whined, almost begging for them to return to where they were.
“No no, please, I was getting so close.” you tolf them, but the two men just laughed.
“Too fucking bad, your just here to be a toy for us, you probably won’t be cumming tonight.” Hopper told you, settling infront of you and grabbing your hair, just like Aaron did. While the other grabs your hips lining himself up with your hole.
“Now get to work” Hopper spat at you, using the hand that wasn’t holding your hair to line his cock up with your mouth. Aaron sunk his cock into you before you had a chance to welcome Hoppers cock into your mouth, a gruttal moan ripped through your throat before Hopper shoved his cock into it, hitting the back of your throat immediately. You got to work sucking Hoppers cock with the same enthusiasm that you did with Aarons.
“Fuckkkk I’m gonna cum baby, want me to come in your mouth?” You tried you best to nod, looking up at the olderman infront of you.
“Good, cause you didn’t have a choice.” It didn’t take long before Hoppers hips started thrusting into your face, forcing you to deep throat him and then still as he came down your throat. You took his cum as best you could, reveling in the salty taste.
“God you really are a fucking whore.” He mumbled, pulling out of your mouth, “Now be a good girl and swallow.” And you did, you might’ve choked a little bit because as you did Aaron had decided that was a perfect time to move one of his hands down to rub your clit.
Now that your mouth was free your moans fell freely from your throat, you couldn’t hold them back if you even tried. Hotch was bullying your cunt with each snap of his hips, his fingers making work on your clit, he had you hurtiling to the edge faster that anyone had.
“Fuck, fuck, so good.” you moaned, eyes rolling back into your head, but it wasn’t enough, you needed more.
“Fuck, choke me please.” you pleaded with the man behind you, the though of his hand wrapping around your throat too good to pass up.
“Oh she likes being choked does she?” the two men laughed at hoppers statement, the hand that was on your hip came up to wrap around your throat, cutting off your air supply. You were so fucking close to the edge.
“I’m gonna cum! Please, please don’t stop!” you practically screamed out, Hotch grunted behind you, you took that as a confirmation that he wouldn’t. After a few more thrusts of his hips your body was convulsing, and a cry fell from your lips as you came, not even a minute Hotch followed, he buried himself deep into your cunt as he came.
You were both out of breath as he pulled out, sweat dotting everyones foreheads and you laid limply across Hoppers desk, effectively fucked out. You felt one of the men undo your cuffs, Hopper picked you up gently.
“Lets go get you cleaned up.” He walked with you towards the bathroom, Hotch following close behind and you smiled, cuddling into the older mans chest.
“But do not think this night is over…we’re both extremely pent up.”

Almost immediately after the lecture ended, Y/N abandoned Stiles to go to their local coffee shop. She would've gone with him but she wanted to avoid the inevitable teasing that was about to occur after what happened with the surprise lecturer, DR. Spencer Reid. She couldn't get too far though because as she reached the door her phone started to buzz, of course, it was Lydia. With a preparing sigh, Y/N answered the phone and opened the door to the coffee shop getting in line.
"So… you going to tell me or do I have to pry it out of you?" Lydia asked over the phone with a laugh in her voice. It was times like this that Y/N really missed having Lydia and the girls around, of course, Stiles is your best friend but he could be so clueless sometimes, it was a wonder how he ended up with Lydia in the first place.
"Nothing actually happened, he was just super cute!" Y/N said trying to avoid the conversation knowing that Lydia would pry, not in a malicious way. She was telling the truth, nothing DID happen Y/N just tried to show off to the attractive man in front of her.
"Okay yeah, showing off, eyes changing, blood pressure rising enough to shift slightly. A totally normal reaction to seeing a cute guy." Lydia knew that Y/N hadn't even attempted to date since she left Beacon Hills, they were like sisters and all Lydia wanted was for Y/N to find love as she had.
"Okay, so it's been a while. There was just something different about him, but with my 'condition' it would never go anywhere. I just miss how easy dating was when people around me were also 'different'" Y/N knew when Derek turned her that she would probably never be able to have a normal life, a normal relationship, but when it was both Lydia and Stiles' head on the chopping block and she was only human… she had to do something.
"I'm not saying this guy has to put a ring on it, but you deserve someone to care for you the way Kira did okay. Even if it's temporary you need to see that you can have a life, that's why you joined the FBI Academy with Stiles in the first place." Lydia had to admit that it was easier to love and feel safe when you didn't have to hide who you were.
"I hear you, darling… I needed to hear that thank you, Lyd. I'll call you back later I'm getting to the coffee counter."
"Okay babe, I love you," Lydia replied before hanging up. Y/N did need some reassurance that she wasn't a monster and deserved happiness. She did what she did for her family and she doesn't regret it a single day.
Y/N put in her coffee order and stood at the end of the counter and just waited letting her mind wander, that was until she felt a slight tap on her shoulder and she swung around coming face to face with the guest lecturer from earlier, Spencer Reid. Her heart momentarily skipped and she could already feel her pulse rising, so she just tried to think about the time Stiles fell out of the Jeep drunk and landed face first, it helped her keep a funny level head. Spencer just smiled and raised his hand not wanting to shake her hand.
"Oh, hi! Dr. Reid, correct?" Y/N questioned as if she could ever forget.
"That's right, good memory, Your name is Y/N L/N correct?" Spencer acted as if he could forget too.
"Lovely to meet you! The case file was super interesting, I hope you guys catch the guy." Y/N didn't know how to make small talk. Was it inappropriate to try and flirt with the guest lecturer? She didn't know, Lydia would tell her it wasn't but Lydia just wanted her to flirt with anyone.
"Your answer was incredible, I called it through to my team and our Technical Analyst is running it through now. I'll let your professor know if you're correct so he can relay the information to you if you would like?" Spencer was trying to talk to more people that weren't on his team, hence why he decided to be a guest lecturer for the academy sometimes, it did help that Y/N seemed genuinely interested in him and the subject.
"That sounds amazing Dr. Reid thank you, I actually had some questions about your team if you don't mind?" Y/N asked gesturing to an empty table in the coffee shop. Spencer knew she might have just been interested in the team but it was nice of her to offer to spend some time with him, he didn't really get that much with people outside his family.
"Of course I have time." He said smiling back at her. They weren't too dissimilar in age maybe 3-4 years between them so it felt nice for him to spend some time with people close to his age, and considering she was here at the academy they definitely had something in common.
"Now I must warn you, I tend to ramble a bit so if I go off just tell me to stop," Y/N said breaking into a smile that would make the sun jealous. Spencer knew what it was like to be cut off when being invested in someone so he wouldn't dare to imagine cutting her off but he nodded his head in agreement to please her anyway and to hopefully make her more comfortable.
The pair must have been sat there for a good 30 minutes by now just talking, at first all of Y/N's questioned was about Spencer and the BAU team. She seemed very interested in how Spencer described Penelope saying 'That definitely sounds like a woman that I would love to meet one day.' Spencer even offered to take Y/N to look around the BAU and meet the team after their case was done, he said it so quickly it shocked him. He was never this comfortable or even this forward with someone, let alone a pretty girl he was having coffee with. There was a good 15-minute section where Spencer hadn't stopped talking about each member of his team in detail. Y/N hadn't stopped him once either, she was just looking at him with such a deep interest in what he was saying he never wanted to stop talking. Neither of them had noticed that the coffee shop had almost completely emptied they'd just been focused on each other. They'd subconsciously gotten closer, both of them leaning further over the table as the conversation deepened.
"So is there any option of me finishing my time at the academy with the BAU team? Even if it's just doing the paperwork?" Y/N couldn't think of anything better than joining this team after Spencer had talked about the job and the team with such love. Spencer knew that Ashley Sever had done some of her academy training with the BAU team before moving to the sex crimes unit to Spencer didn't see any reason that wasn't her grades as to why Y/N couldn't
"There was a girl who did before, so if you're grades and physical are up to par I think my unit chief would consider it. You would have to show skill in profiling and take the class too though." Spencer was almost getting excited at the idea of Y/N being on the team so he could see her more.
"Physical will be no problem I was always a sporty child and well I'd say I can read people very well, it's like I've got a sense for it." Y/N laughed at the end of her sentence and Spencer had no clue as to why but he didn't mind, her laugh had such a musical tune to it he was happy to hear it on repeat.
"Okay give it a shot, profile someone," Spencer said smiling. He knew he'd talked non-stop for a while and after hearing her in class he couldn't wait to hear what she had to say this time. Now Y/N knew it was unfair to go off pheromones and pulse considering her 'sense' for people but she couldn't deny that this time she really just wanted to impress Spencer.
"Okay… Take Ellie for example. She's the barista taking orders. Her face with uplifting with a smile because she's the face you first see, but if you keep watching when she doesn't have a customer there's a micro-expression of contentment, her lip corner tightens and raises on only one side. We can't control micro-expressions but no one would notice it behind her happy and mostly faked macro-expression. This tells me it's near the end of her shift because the more time she's here the less her happiness is genuine from exhaustion, also her eyes keep darting to the top of the register then the door signaling she's near the end of her shift." Y/N said while pointing at different places and also waving at Ellie as she getting to the end of her explanation. Spencer was genuinely surprised that Y/N already knew micro and macro expressions and how to accurately point them out. He knew without a doubt that she'd do well it was just a matter of convincing Hotch to get a new and even younger team member.
After that big explanation Y/N just beamed a smile at Spencer and hoped she got it right, she tried to do it without her senses because she knew she had actual intelligence to back up the fact she'd be good at this, that's how she got into the academy in the first place. Spencer immediately texted Hotch to meet with him once he was back and he found himself praying that Hotch would play ball and consider it.
Just like that, they went straight back into a comfortable conversation that had Spencer regretting that he had to leave and go back to the BAU soon, he tried to use the time to ask Y/N questioned about her childhood and schooling instead. They both got so enamored with each other that another 10 minutes slipped by like no time at all. Y/N hadn't even noticed that Stiles had walked in, she was even oblivious to the fact that Stiles and his phone camera facing them and Lydia was definitely on the other end of it.
"Well in all honesty this has been the most fun 45 minutes of my life, unfortunately, my unit chief wants me back to discuss something. This has been great that someone took interest in what my lecture was about," Spencer hoped she was also interested in him, even though it felt selfish.
"It wasn't just the lecture, Doctor," Spencer nearly melted when she called him doctor. She said it in a way that made it sound almost mythical and he'd give anything to hear it again. "Here's my number, in case you ever decide to hold up that promise of taking me around the BAU." Y/N just smiled. Spencer started to forget what the ground felt like underneath him, almost as if he was falling.
"I'll definitely keep the promise." He said almost as a whisper as he nodded to her. He raised his hand knowing he didn't have any clue on how to actually say goodbye to her.
"Goodbye Doctor." There that was again, Doctor. Spencer had never loved being called Doctor so much as he did right now. She raised her hand to say goodbye as Spencer took his bag and walked out the door. Y/N didn't even look around she just sat straight down staring at the empty seat. That was until it was quickly taken by none other than Stiles who had his phone screen pointed at her to show Lydia on the other end of face time. Lydia didn't even know what to say she was just beaming and Stiles had a smile on his face that she hadn't seen unless he was looking at Lydia. They both started to talk at the same time, sometimes it was like having a pair of golden retrievers as friends, funny coming from the actual werewolf. Y/N just held up her finger stopping them from talking and tries to suppress a smile.
"Not. A. Word."

She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5 here
Word count: 7.4k
I should add that there are a lot of time jumps which I typically break with ✨✨✨ this emoji but it’s used for time jumps too. This is laid out differently because originally it was like a bunch of smaller chapters. This part contains the first 3 chapters.
This will have MULTIPLE parts so I’ll update my master list so they can all be found. Reader is a member of the BAU.
Warnings: cursing, some fictional cases that I totally make up from random bits of the show, talks of drinking. No smut yet. Slow burn friends to lovers fic
Tumblr media
You took a deep breath as you walked up the large concrete steps of the Training Academy, your new place of employment. You'd been assigned to the BAU right out of college per the recommendations of your professors and a few strings pulled by someone from your past— Erin Strauss. She'd called you in weeks before graduation to talk to you about an incredible opportunity, one you wouldn't be able to pass up if you tried.
"Now you understand that this is a demanding job, right? You'll be on the road often," you tried not to let your excitement show as she offered you the dream of a lifetime.
"I don't exactly have any family I'm leaving behind, ma'am."
Her eyes softened as she scanned your features. You knew it was because you reminded her of the man she once loved more than anything—your father. You knew your presence was difficult for her, you were a painful memento of the man she left behind, her biggest regret. You wondered if the job opportunity was her way of making things right in her own way—you deserved the job, but her guilty conscience and your ability to learn quickly had made for the perfect set of circumstances for you.
"I know that. I know you can handle it. Forgive me, but I still worry about you."
She was cold, but something about you melted her; she'd always had a soft spot for you, but this was different, almost maternal.
"I appreciate that ma'am. You're the closest thing to family I have left. I won't let you down."
She shook her head, brushing her hair back behind her ears as she leaned forward.
"I know you won't. You're going to do great things. I just know it."
You found yourself nervous as you stepped into the large office area, eyes frantically searching for your superior. You'd met him once before, although you doubted he remembered. It had been early in his career, and you were young. You would understand if he didn't recognize you, but you'd never dare tell him who you were if he didn't already know.
"Excuse me, I'm looking for SSA Hotchner," you stopped the first person you saw, a young guy, maybe a little older than you, with a head full of brown hair and a purple tie.
"His office is at the top of the steps. You must be Y/n," he offered a small wave instead of a handshake, so you smiled back at him.
"You must be Dr. Reid. I've heard a lot about you."
His lips turned up in a smile before he spoke again.
"Spencer. We have the same IQ."
You couldn't help but laugh because that was the first thing Strauss had told you about him.
"But you have more degrees. I'm down by one," you'd double majored, which was stressful, but you'd received an abundance of grants and scholarships due to your achievements before college, so you dedicated your entire college experience to learning as much as you could. In the end, it was what had made you stand out among your classmates. You'd received a plethora of awards at graduation, the highest honors possible, going above and beyond what was required of you. You'd been published in the same Psychology journal as Dr. Reid once before, and you'd framed every copy you could find.
"I read your article. Your theories on substance abuse linked to childhood trauma make a lot of sense scientifically. I know you were coming from a more personal perspective because of your mom, but childhood trauma actually damages the brain, altering the actual influence it has over the human body."
You cleared your throat at the mention of your mother and checked to make sure no one else was listening.
"No one else has read that, right? Just you? Would you do me a favor and maybe not mention my parents around the others? It's just— it's a lot to explain—"
He put his hands up to stop you and nodded his head in understanding.
"I get it. I don't think anyone else read it, but I'd never say anything like that in front of people. But if you ever want to talk about it, I feel like now that you're in the BAU, we could learn a lot from you, since you've been there firsthand. I just want you to know, you're not alone. I've been there too."
It came out almost as a whisper, and you realized you made your first friend more easily than anticipated. You already had a bond, something that distinguished the two of you from everyone else. You'd seen Hell and conquered it.
"It's not so easy for me to talk about, but I'll keep it in mind. I'm pretty early, what are you doing here already?"
You changed the subject, hoping he'd get the hint. He did, shooting you a sympathetic look.
"I was up already. Let me introduce you to Hotch. He was really excited about you joining the team. Thought we'd make a good pair," he said the last part enthusiastically, and you had no doubt that you and the Doctor would be a good team.
"He's right. I was so nervous when I walked in but you helped that a lot. Thank you, Spencer." You stood outside of your Superior's door, taking a deep breath before knocking.
"Good luck. I'll see you on the jet," he descended the steps at the same time that Agent Hotchner told you to come in.
He was more handsome than you remembered.
You noticed he was missing his wedding ring now—you wondered what happened. He stood up, coming around his big desk to shake your hand.
"Agent Y/l/n, good to finally meet you."
You were taken aback by his deep, neutral toned voice, it rumbled through you and made your brain go white hot.
"It's good to be here. I'm excited to have the opportunity."
He studied you for a moment as he invited you to sit down, his hands clasped together on his desk.
"I can't help thinking that I know you," he said after a moment, and you tried to put on a poker face; you weren't sure you wanted him to remember you.
"I've been in DC a while. I'm sure we've ran into each other before."
He nodded, going over your paperwork in front of him.
"We're leaving in an hour to consult on a case in Tennessee. Can you be ready by then?"
You nodded, because you'd came prepared. There was a go bag already packed in your car, per Strauss's suggestion.
"Perfect. I'll let you find a desk and introduce yourself. I'll see you on the jet."
✨✨✨
"Y/n is onto something, I think the counselor knows more than he's telling us," Spencer said, going over his witness statements once more. It had been a long day, and it faded into night quickly. You were at the hotel, Spencer and Hotch standing in front of you.
"First thing in the morning, you two go check him out at work. We need to try to get a little sleep," Hotch reasoned, and you nodded in agreement. You were exhausted; you'd been going all day long with no signs of stopping. They'd showed up at nearly the same time, and you three had been bouncing theories off one another for half an hour.
"I'll be ready by 7," you told Spencer, and he nodded before he let himself out and headed to his own room. Hotch stayed behind for a moment.
"You did really good work today."
That was all he'd said, so you patted yourself on the back before heading to bed yourself.
The next morning, Spencer knocked lightly, waiting for you on the other side of the door.
"We'll say we're just doing a follow up interview, see what details about his private life we can get," Spencer already had a plan.
"You should do the talking. He doesn't take women seriously," you'd noticed it the day before when his secretary made a comment and his eyes nearly rolled back in his head. He'd been short and rude with you and JJ, which was why you had doubts about him in the first place. He didn't like that you were meddling.
"Good idea. I could tell how annoyed he was when JJ corrected him," the address for his office wasn't far, so you drove. Spencer actually handed you the keys and let you take the wheel.
"So what happened with Hotch? He used to be married," Spencer's face fell before he explained Haley's tragic death and their divorce months prior. It happened nearly two years before, but he obviously still carried the weight of her lord.
"How did you know he was married?" He asked finally, but you didn't have time to answer because you'd arrived at your destination.
The first thing that you noticed was how he seemed shakier than he was the day before; when he led you to his office, he was nervous, agitated.
You took in your surroundings and almost immediately made a connection, looking at a framed piece of artwork on the wall. You noticed the signature belonged to one of the other victims who'd been an artist.
"You didn't tell us that you knew both victims," you said suddenly, making him clear his throat for a third time since he'd started talking to Spencer.
"I uh, didn't think it was important. I bought art from her occasionally."
The signature was the same on all the art; the first victim had been Dr. Trent's running partner, which made him the number one suspect now that you knew he was the only survivor. It made no sense for the unsub to leave him alive, that wasn't a part of his method.
"So what I knew them both? You can't prove anything," he defended, which made you turn sharply on your heel, looking back at him.
"We're going to have to ask you to come with us," Spencer said firmly, the handcuffs on his waist clinking together as he retrieved them.
"Did you know I asked her out, bought her stupid artwork, and she still wouldn't date me?! As far as I'm concerned, she had it coming! She loved Stan, who couldn't even run half a mile without gasping for air! They got what was fair!" Spencer cuffed him as he made his confession, easier than you'd anticipated. You stepped aside to call Hotch.
"We got a confession. We're bringing him in," you told him, and you were met with silence on the other end.
"You've only been gone twenty minutes."
"It didn't take much. We'll see you at the station," you couldn't help but feel a tiny bit proud of being the crucial part of solving the case. You wished you had a family to call and tell about it.
"Nice work. We'll see you there."
Dr. Trent was chatty, giving you both all the grave details on the ride in. You led him into the precinct, watching the other officers talk amongst themselves about how you all had been able to crack the case so swiftly.
You were back at the hotel within the hour, grounded for the night due to some uncertain weather. It was sleeting outside, ice particles slapping against your window. You'd just showered and gotten changed when there was a knock at the door.
"Spencer says you're the one who found the missing pieces. The artwork, the confession, he gave you all the credit."
Hotch was staring back at you, baffled as to how you'd managed to do it.
"Every time you asked him about his running partner, his jaw would clench for half a second. I barely saw it. Thought it was coincidence until it happened three times."
He crossed his arms over his chest, leaning against the door frame.
"I missed it."
He sounded partly amused, like he still couldn't believe it.
"It was easy to miss. I've seen it before."
He nodded, gesturing towards the hall.
"We're getting dinner down the street if you want to ride with me. It's sleeting too hard to walk," you opened the door the rest of the way, slipping on your coat and shoes before grabbing your key. You could feel his watchful gaze on you as you maneuvered around the room, his eyes darting away when you joined him again.
"I bet there's snow by morning," he stopped in the hall to take a look out the big bay window. You took a moment to admire all of his great features, the curve of his jaw, his nose, perfectly framing his face. He'd always been handsome but age had treated him well. His voice was stern but smooth, and it made you powerless.
"Think we'll be stuck for more than a day?"
"It's a good possibility," he confirmed, pressing the button for the elevator while you waited. You were cursing yourself silently for letting his attractiveness make your judgement cloudy, but you couldn't help it. Everything about him made you want to know more, from his firm body to what was going on in his mind.
"Gives me time to finish my report before we get back," you had just made it to the lobby, Derek and Spencer already waiting for you. Rossi and JJ were the only missing ones.
"I hope they hurry, I'm starving," Derek complained, earning an eye roll from Spencer. He made his way to stand next to you, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. He made small talk until the elevator dinged and everyone else joined you, and then you were on your way. You climbed into the passengers seat and realized you were the only one riding with him, everyone else had climbed into the other SUV.
"Try to relax a little tonight. You've earned it. Everyone is impressed with you," it made you happy to hear, a little more like an actual member of the team.
"I know everyone else has been with the team a while. Having someone new means big expectations," you'd been worried about feeling like you fit in among a group of established friends, but they'd been so welcoming that your worries had eased significantly.
"You're doing just fine. Don't worry."
You arrived at the restaurant, sitting between Hotch and JJ, who leaned in quickly when she saw Hotch was distracted with Rossi.
"Do you two know each other?"
You shook your head, raising an eyebrow at her questionably. Her own eyes bounced between the two of you before she continued, her hands covering her mouth as if she were telling a secret.
"He just warmed up to you really quick is all," she wasn't entirely convinced, but you weren't going to explain any further. Spencer saved the day, asking JJ a question across the table, giving you something new to chat about. You noticed Hotch's stare on you multiple times as you talked, but you didn't think much of it. You wanted to blush beneath his gaze, and there were occasions when you felt the heat in your cheeks. By the time dinner arrived, you weren't sure what to think about his attention.
"So, Y/n, are you seeing anyone?"
Derek always had a question for you, curious as to what he could find out about you. You shook your head before explaining that you'd been focused on school and didn't have time to date.
"You sound like Reid," Derek teased, but you shrugged in response, sipping your wine.
"I was a busy girl. I just didn't want to waste my time on something that wasn't going to last after graduation."
"Smart," Hotch said softly, smirking behind his glass at you.
"Well that all changes now that you're a hotshot," Derek joked, and you rolled your eyes dramatically before finishing your dinner. You weren't exactly looking for a relationship, and now that you were a part of the BAU, it seemed like a thing of the past, being close to someone. You'd been looking for a distraction to keep you busy, and traveling nonstop was the perfect tool for combating the loneliness. You were surrounded by some of the brightest minds on the planet as far as you were concerned, and you couldn't wait to see what life looked like as a part of the team.
The following day, you were grounded, as Hotch predicted. JJ and Emily invited you out for brunch, and then it unanimously became a group activity when everyone was in the lobby at your agreed upon meeting time.
"I hope everyone is ready for bottomless mimosas. We're off the clock," Emily whooped, and you piled into an SUV with Reid, JJ and Emily, who was turning in the passengers seat to look at you.
"Okay, spill it. What's the deal with you and Hotch? He's got like, puppy dog eyes when he looks at you," she made a face and you giggled softly, shrugging your shoulders.
"I don't know if I should say anything. We've met before. I was fifteen, so I doubt he remembers me, but I'm sure he's trying to."
You recalled the day you met him like it had just happened. It had been ten years ago, and you were begging anyone who would listen to get you out of the situation you were in. It wasn't until he was called back to profile your mother that he'd believed you, offering a sincere apology and a sad goodbye. He'd felt for you, and it was obvious in the way he came to your school just to check on you the day after everything transpired, to make sure you were settling in okay in a new place.
"He's acting weird, I noticed it too," Spencer agreed, and you weren't sure what could be causing him to act out of character. He had no reason to feel bad anymore; it was a long time ago, and truth be told, your story was a hard one to believe. It had seemed too theatrical for him, you saw it in his eyes when you pleaded with him to listen to you. He wanted to believe you, but without any evidence, he couldn't. It wasn't until a Social Service worker was alerted about your situation that anyone took you seriously. For the first time in your life, you had a voice, and you fucking used it to tell your story.
Hotch was asked for a private consult by the local authorities and he came, interviewed you and your mother, and then he left again. He was the first adult you trusted, but he was still fresh in his career. You didn't blame him. He wasn't the only one who didn't listen.
"So what happened when you were fifteen?"
Emily knew you didn't want to talk about it, but you just told her that he worked a case you were involved in and you left it at that. She nodded, knowing there was more that you'd share when you were ready.
"Do you not want him to remember you?" JJ asked from the drivers seat as she pulled in next to Hotch, Derek and Rossi.
"Not like that. I don't want him to think I'm a victim."
The car fell silent so you stepped out, everyone else following your lead. JJ put a comforting hand on your shoulder, and you gave her a soft smile in return. They were only curious, but you had nothing to compare Hotch's normal behavior to how he was acting now, all you knew was that everyone had noticed a change.
"They can get kind of rowdy," Hotch told you, at your side before you could blink. He spoke to the hostess and when it came time to choose a seat, he'd already offered you the chair next to him. You decided it was too early in the day for you to be drinking, so when the mimosas were passed around, you, Hotch and Reid all politely declined. You opted for coffee instead, excited to try breakfast at a new place. You scanned the menu and Hotch did the same, occasionally stealing a glance at you from behind his menu.
"What are you thinking?" He asked, and you shrugged before pointing to something called simply 'The Special' which was a little bit of everything, and it sounded delicious.
"What are you getting?" He pointed to the steak and egg combo, and you weren't surprised that he'd be eating a ribeye at 11 in the morning.
"What do you have planned for the rest of the day?" Everyone else was lost in a group discussion and Hotch was sneaking behind his menu to talk to you like the two of you were school children.
"I was just going to finish up some work," he sat down his menu, shaking his head.
"We're grounded, off the clock. Please don't spend it shut off in your hotel room. There's always time on the jet for reports. Try to enjoy yourself a little. I'm sure the girls could use you as a good influence today," he chuckled, nodding towards Emily who was already on her second glass.
"If I drink this early in the day, I'll be trashed. The last thing I need to do is embarrass myself," you muttered, his eyebrow raised questionably at you.
"You don't strike me as a drunken party girl," there was the faintest smirk on his lips while you tried to backpedal.
"I just—I can get kind of honest when I drink," what you were trying to say was, you had no filter and you surely wouldn't be able to stop yourself from openly flirting with him if given the chance.
"Drunk words are sober thoughts," he told you, and you shrugged, knowing some thoughts should be kept a secret.
"I'd like to keep my sober thoughts private for now," you joked back before ordering your food. JJ hadn't stopped staring at the exchange between the two of you, a sly grin on her lips as she winked at you from across the table. You thought you'd been subtle, but the whole chatting behind the menu trick had proven itself faulty because she was onto you. You knew you could only avoid their questions for so much longer—then the fun would really begin.
✨✨✨
Adjusting to the BAU took very little effort. After a few weeks, you easily fell into routine with the rest of them. Hotch had silently made you his partner after he saw what an asset you were to the team, and no one questioned it. He paired you up with him for nearly everything, always asking for your opinion or input. A level of trust had been established and the two of you often did reports together either in his office after everyone had left or in your hotel rooms while everyone else was out partying. It wasn't uncommon for him to wander to your room, pen and folders in hand, or vice versa.
He'd sit on one side of the bed and you on the other, silently working together to finish what needed to be done. It was just easier if you did it as a team, and he didn't mind the help. It meant he could go straight home to Jack when you landed.
On this night in particular, everyone else was in their rooms while the two of you worked to build a profile. He was pacing, snowballing ideas at you while you wrote furiously, putting the pieces together.
"Sharp blows to the head, ligature marks. I can't charm my victims, I can't over power them. I'm guessing he has some sort of disadvantage, like being physically smaller or under average weight," you suggested, and he nodded, his hands on his hips.
"Being small would make sense. Blow to the head will knock anyone out no matter what size you are."
You then had a shocking realization that it wasn't a man at all.
"It's a woman. Think about it, all of the victims had been cheating on their wives. It's a mistress, or an ex. Someone who's been scorned. The letters said 'We were insignificant,' talking about the women being cheated on. Why use the term we if you're not putting yourself in the same category?"
The lightbulb clicked for him seconds later as the two of you worked tirelessly to revise the profile now that you knew the unsub was a woman. By the time everyone else was awake and in the lobby at your meeting time, you and Hotch were already downstairs, chomping at the bit to deliver the new profile and narrow down the parameters.
"We'll need an entirely new perspective on suspects. Reid and Emily will work on the geographic profile, Dave and Morgan will revisit the first crime scene to canvas with our new information. Y/n and I will talk to the wives of the deceased and see if they knew anything about the mistresses."
You all went your separate ways, with Hotch behind the wheel. The two of you were up all night, so his first stop was a coffee shop.
"I figured we could use it considering we were working all night. We can't make a habit of that, you know. It's bad enough that I do it," he was hinting that you should've gotten sleep when everyone else did last night instead of staying up to help him.
"I wasn't going to be able to sleep until we caught a break," you told him, and he nodded in understanding. His mind worked and operated in the same way, often restless when there was still work to be done.
"In that case, I'm glad you can keep me company. It's a lot easier working with you than on my own," he admitted, and you felt your stomach do flips at the fact that he enjoyed having you around.
"We work pretty well together."
He smirked slightly as he handed you your coffee, his fingertips lightly brushing yours during the exchange.
"You have surpassed every expectation I had for you. I'm glad you're a part of this team."
✨✨✨
By the time afternoon rolled around, you had a viable suspect and you were on your way to her apartment, back up close behind. Reid and Emily would be arriving shortly after you, but you weren't too worried. Her apartment was quiet, so the two of you proceeded with caution.
"Living room's clear," Hotch called, and just as you were about to say the same for the bedroom, there was a crash behind you as your unsub tried to take you out from behind, like her previous victims. You'd narrowly missed her, kicking her legs so she lost her footing and fell to the ground. She was about to throw a punch from below you that you managed to dodge before pinning her down.
"Don't even think about it," you growled as she resisted you, but you managed to get her cuffed and stood her up before Hotch rounded the corner.
"You alright?"
His eyes quickly scanned your body as you nodded, gesturing to the woman next to you.
"She tried to knock me out."
The two of you led her outside to the rest of the team and local PD, where she sat in the back of a cop car before being driven away. You took a second to regroup now that you were finished with the case.
"We'll fly out at 8 am sharp tomorrow, so everyone meet in the lobby by 7. As far as I'm concerned, you've all earned a night off," he looked to you briefly, the same exhausted look in his eyes. You knew the girls would all invite you out with them, but your plans involved dinner and bed, in that order.
"Let's all grab a drink at least," Morgan said to Hotch, who thought for a moment before nodding back at him. You were all going to meet at the hotel bar and have dinner and a drink before parting ways for the evening. You rode back in the SUV with Hotch, who couldn't seem to keep his eyes on the road. They darted towards you every spare moment he got, making you feel a bit insecure under the scrutiny of his gaze.
"Is it the coffee shop on 14th Avenue? Is that where I know you?"
You were a bit surprised that he didn't remember you given his knowledge of previous cases was extensive. You shook your head, a teasing smile on your lips as you bit your tongue.
"You really don't remember, do you?"
He nearly stopped in the middle of the road, but he caught himself, clearing his throat before he spoke again.
"So we have met before."
You weren't ready to explain to him why he couldn't figure it out. You wanted to leave it for a bit longer, give him time to really think about it before you spilled your safe kept secret.
"I'll make you a deal. If you don't remember by the end of the month, I'll tell you."
You had nearly two weeks for him to come to realization on his own or you'd fill him in. You were hoping he'd have a moment where it clicked and he'd drop it entirely when he did remember so you didn't have to relive that experience. You were dreading the day you'd have to tell him the truth.
"I can't help but feel like there's a reason you aren't telling me now." His curiosity was getting the best of him, but you were saved, pulling into the hotel parking lot.
"You'll remember. I have faith in you," you winked at him, hearing his low chuckle that came shortly after. You knew he wasn't sure how to take your playful nature at times, considering he was the polar opposite. That's partly why you made such a great team; you were balanced in ways you'd never dreamed of being with another person. Where you fell short, he picked up the slack.
"We'll see. Let's get you something to eat so you can go to bed."
Dinner was mostly uneventful, and when you finally crawled into bed, you felt more relief than you ever thought possible. You set an alarm just in case, but you ended up waking up around midnight anyway, bright eyed and full of life. You took a shower, hearing the person on the opposite wall doing the same thing. You got out first, drying off and dressing in something more comfortable. You'd fallen asleep in jeans, and you woke up partly because they were so uncomfortable.
You'd just sat down to finish your reports, a cup of coffee cooling in a mug when a knock came at the door. You assumed it was Hotch because you weren't sure who else it would be, but you were met with Spencer instead.
"Spence, what's up?"
His hands were stuffed in his pockets and he shrugged awkwardly as he struggled with what to say. His eyes told a sad story, something you feared you'd have to answer questions about because he'd been snooping.
"I uh, I wanted to talk to you about something. I just don't want to make you mad," he explained, so you invited him in after making sure he was the only person in the hall.
"What is it?"
He took a seat at the table and invited you to sit across from him, his hands fidgety as he avoided your eyes.
"I'm not going to tell anyone, but I know how you and Hotch know each other."
Your heart sank to your stomach as you processed his words, knowing that Hotch wouldn't be the only one to know about your past when it was all said and done.
"It's public record, Spence. I wouldn't be mad about that. You said you've been there too, so you can understand why I don't want everyone knowing."
Although it was before anyone but Hotch was in the BAU, you didn't want your personal business aired out for the entire team to hear.
"Are you okay? I read the case file and I almost didn't believe it. What she did to you, it was—"
You put your hands up to stop him because the last thing you wanted to talk about was your mother. It held a tremendous amount of trauma for you and it was best to avoid the topic at all costs.
"I'm fine. It was a long time ago. I know if I need anything, there's always a Doctor close by," you smiled at him, making him grin back at you in return. He was concerned and he had every right to be, but unless it affected your ability to perform, you didn't want to speak about it.
"I'll let you work, I just wanted to make sure you knew that I'm here for you."
You knew he didn't do hugs, so you gave him a quick fist bump before he showed himself out. You decided to make a walk to the vending machine, colliding directly into Hotch as you rounded the corner. You walked right into him, more shocked to see him standing there than anything. His arms reached out to steady you before he took in your attire; you were just in a t-shirt and shorts, but his eyes traveled up your body like he'd never seen anything quite like you before.
"Sorry, I didn't realize our snack schedules are in sync too," you told him as he gave you a genuine smile, his fingertips lingering on your shoulder, brushing a stray strand of hair back over your shoulder.
"I woke up in the mood to work," he said simply and you nodded as he made his choice and stepped aside so you could too. He stood and waited with you so he could walk you back to your room, standing outside of the door.
"I'm working too if you want to come over," you told him, and he nodded before going to retrieve his things, spending yet another night in your bed, a pen scribbling furiously in his hand. You managed to finish up around 5 AM, the two of you opting to drink coffee and stay awake.
"Will you at least give me a hint?" He was laying on his side, facing you on the bed as you laid flat on your back, staring up at the ceiling. You turned to look at him, scrunching your face up in indecision before giving him one tiny detail.
"Foster High School."
He sat thoughtful for a moment but eventually drew a blank, sighing heavily as he closed his eyes.
"It's driving me crazy. I just can't believe I could forget a face like yours," he blushed like mad, but you felt a smile creeping onto your face at how smooth your demanding boss could be.
"Well, I certainly couldn't forget you. I always wondered where you ended up. I knew you'd be doing something spectacular."
His face only grew more red as he took you in, from your feet to your face, his eyes trailed over every inch of you.
"I don't even know where Foster High School is," he groaned, and you giggled lightly, standing up so you could stretch out. You were feeling the weight of exhaustion, and so was he. His eyes were dimmed red, but they were glued to you.
"You'll remember. Promise me you won't ask Garcia, I want you to remember on your own," he rolled his eyes playfully before agreeing, standing up to head towards the door.
"Ride with me to the airstrip?"
You nodded and he was out the door, off to get ready to fly home.
✨✨✨
"I love Halloween!" Spencer was passing out treat bags around the bullpen, making sure you got one as he handed them out. He even went to give one to Hotch, who wasn't exactly excited that we were having a Halloween Bash at Rossi's the following night, but he was trying to be.
"You all got your costumes?"
You and Emily exchanged a look before nodding, because you, Emily and Penelope had a perfect group costume that involved leather and feathered wings, something you'd been planning for weeks.
"Oh we've got them," you said, a cocky grin spread out on your face. When you'd tried them on, the three of you had looked incredible and that was without hair and makeup. JJ and Will were doing a costume together, so the three of you quickly set to work on a trio costume.
"Who wants to bet that Hotch doesn't dress up?" His office door was closed but you could see him on the phone through the blinds. Rossi had intended for everyone to crash at his place after so no one had to drive, and you wondered if he'd stick around too. It had been almost two weeks and he was nowhere closer to figuring out where he knew you, so you planned to tell him soon.
That night at Emily's getting ready, you couldn't help but feel good. The three of you made a stunning group and even though Penelope was the only one who decided to wear wings, it was obvious that you were Charlie's Angels.
"We look HOT!" Penelope cheered as you rallied into her car, blasting music as you made the drive to Rossi's. Everyone else was already there, the garden lit up purple to match the evening festivities. Spencer was Frankenstein's Monster, you could see his mask as you were walking in. Hotch had certainly dressed up, that was for sure. He wore a silky black dress shirt, no tie, and black slacks, the combination striking with his eyes. He was the first to catch your gaze lingering on him, his own eyes raking you in as you approached him and Rossi.
"Ah, the Angels," Dave remarked, handing the three of you a drink. Hotch refilled his glass, his eyes lingering on your chest long enough for your face to heat up.
"You guys win best costume," he told you, and you swore you saw him wink at you when Rossi wasn't looking.
"I like your costume too," you smirked, and he made a face before leading you away from the crowd.
"I was hoping you'd tell me tonight," he purred, his voice dangerously low and sexier than he intended.
"Let me have another drink and I'll think about it."
He nodded, eyeing your glass.
"I can give you a ride home later if you want, I just assumed you didn't drive," he offered, and you nodded, telling him to let you know when he was ready to leave. You'd never pass up the opportunity to have him alone, even for a little bit.
"Go have fun. We'll hang out later," he promised you, so you went to enjoy the party with your friends.
Hotch found you a few hours later so you said your goodbyes, happy to be going somewhere you could take off your heels. You'd no sooner climbed into Hotch's car when he was taking you by surprise.
"Want to come back to my place? You can change into something of mine," he offered, and you gave him a small nod, because you'd never been to his house before and the idea of it thrilled you.
"You sure you don't mind?"
He shook his head, taking off in the direction of his place.
"You're good company."
A few minutes later and you were in his clothes, clutching a glass as he set to work on playing music, his record player spinning a Beatles album. You sat at the kitchen table but he offered you his hand, helping you to stand. It took you a minute to realize what he was doing when his hand met your waist and he started to rock back and forth with you.
"You didn't dance with me once all night. I wanted to make up for it," he said simply, twirling you around the kitchen. He was a really good dancer, you let him take the lead and he whisked you around, making you giggle lightly.
"I would've asked but you didn't strike me as the dancing type. Now I know I was wrong. You can be my dancing partner any time," you told him, watching his cheeks go pink as he beamed from ear to ear.
"Ready to tell me how we know each other?" Your head was on his chest and for now you were just enjoying the moment, wrapped up in him.
"In a minute," you assured him as the song changed, but neither of you stopped swaying; he kept dancing slow with you despite the quickened pace of the song. You were enjoying just being close to him, and he didn't bother moving either.
You leaned back to look at him, knowing everything would change after today. If Hotch told anyone, it would snowball out of control, and everyone would know in a matter of days.
"You profiled my mom. I bet you remember her," you said sadly, because who could forget someone so horrific? You often wondered how he slept after she so easily described every heinous thing she'd done to you, to the missing children in the surrounding towns. You'd seen them all come, but they never got to leave.
"Your mom? Let's sit on the couch," he poured another drink, his mind reeling. He offered you one that you took gratefully, following behind him to the living room. You were close, sat in the middle, but there was still some space between the two of you.
"Her name is Vivian Hall. I took my foster family's name after about 6 months. I kept getting her—her fan mail," it was a collection of disturbing men, all wanting a chance to be loved by your cruel mother, who'd never loved anything in her life.
"Wait a second," you could practically see the gears turning as he put the pieces together, his eyes wide with shock as he stared back at you.
"I don't know how I ever forgot," he said softly, a sullen look on his face. You drained your glass, staring into your lap. You thought you might've been imagining his hand reaching for yours, but it wrapped tightly around your palm, squeezing ever so gently.
"I always wondered what you'd do, who you'd become. Look at you now," he mused, his tone much more easy going than you'd ever heard him. He must've been drunk, that had to be it. He was being entirely too nice and it was blurring your judgment by the second.
"I take it you remember me now," you whispered, capturing his gaze momentarily as he nodded back at you before letting go of your hand. It was as if he remembered you were still his subordinate and touching you might make you something more.
"You're crazy if you think I could forget. I couldn't get your face out of my mind for months. I—I didn't listen to you and I should have. I'm sorry for that," he sputtered, his eyes filled with guilt. That was something you were trying desperately to avoid—it was a hard tale for anyone to believe until you gave them the proof they needed.
"You don't have to apologize, Hotch. It was a really long time ago. It's still hard for me to believe. I can only imagine what you thought."
It had been ten years since you'd willingly given anyone information about what happened that day, but you felt safe on his couch for the first time in a long while.
"I knew those kids were missing. But I never would've suspected Vivian. She was so—"
"Normal?"
He nodded, and you sighed, because she'd been more than normal, she was upstanding. She held awards from the Mayor for her outstanding achievements, and she would've been the last one anybody thought could do something so evil and vile.
"No one listened to me until I gave them the photos. Don't feel bad. I didn't have proof for the first three, and that my fault for not thinking sooner, but the other 5...I knew I'd need something because it was already so hard to believe."
He sat straight up, blinking at you as he tried to figure out what he could say that would make everything better.
"None of that was your fault, Y/n. You tried to tell anyone who would listen. Every single adult you trusted failed you. You did everything right and you got her caught."
You stood to your feet, running a frantic hand through your hair as you fought the demons of the past, still lingering around every corner if you thought about it too long.
"8 kids, Hotch! There was so much evidence that pointed straight to her," he was standing too, wrapping his strong arms around you to keep you still, his hand placed firmly at the small of your back.
"I know. I know."
There was nothing left for you to say—he knew now, and things would change forever.

“How’s he doing?” He asked the woman standing before him as he closed the magazine he had only been skimming through while he waited for her return.
“He made it through surgery with flying colors and he’s resting now,” She answered with a small smile as she took the chair next to his. “Luke, you didn’t have to come to the hospital with me and wait for hours until Tyler came out of surgery. After tonight’s excitement with saving Rossi and stopping Sicarius, you must be so tired,” Penelope looked at his face as she said this and could actually see his exhaustion.
“Yeah, but after tonight’s excitement my brain is too wired, I’d never get to sleep,” Luke sighed heavily. “Besides, you need a friend right now,” She frowned a little in her sadness as she nodded.
“Thank you, I know the others hate me right now because of my involvement with Tyler. Even though Sicarius’s death means there won’t be a trial that that involvement could compromise,” She said recalling the other’s disappointed looks when they found out she had slept with Tyler Green.
“C’mon, they don’t hate you,” Luke argued what he knew was the truth. “They were all just … surprised…”
“Rossi called me a stupid little fool and said that I should be fired,” She flinched a little as she recalled just how mad the man, whom she thought of like a father was earlier.
“He was disappointed, that’s all, and once he’s had time to calm down …” He tried to console her but she quickly cut off his words.
“He’ll probably never trust me professionally again,” Penelope stated. “And neither will Emily. And I can’t blame them I broke the rules and did something I knew was not ethical in our job. And on top of all that I’m a big hypocrite because some years ago I chastised Derek when I thought he was getting too involved with the sister of a victim in a case we were working. I knew better but I kind of didn’t care at the time.”
“Well, you’ve changed in the last three years since you last worked with us,” Luke spoke softly as he leaned over and nudged her a little and pulled a tiny smile from her. “I’ve noticed your change because you have been way too nice to me since you’ve come back,” She snorted and laughed a little as did he.
“While I was away from you and the BAU I had time to reflect and I came to realize that you’re not so bad.”
“Gee, thanks,” He scoffed at her with a smile and a playful scowl.
“Seriously, I had created this preconceived notion about you when you first showed up,” She explained as she looked at him dead-on. “Keep in mind my very best friend, who I now feel comfortable confessing, I was totally in love with,” Her admission surprised Luke. Although he had his suspicions just based on the few times, he had seen Garcia and Morgan together, he wasn’t sure she was even aware and probably would never admit it to herself or anyone else. He also knew that the feelings were not one-sided, but Morgan definitely wouldn’t ever disclose his other than friendly feelings towards her. Luke could see that their friendship was too important to risk for Morgan. “He left to start a family and a new wonderful life. It literally felt like he was leaving me and what we could have been and I thought ‘The story of my life’. The hot guy I thought might be interested in me picks the hot model type … AGAIN!” Luke frowned a bit at her idea that she was not hot because he thought she was muy caliente. “Then in walks ‘you’,” She makes a blah face and then smiled at him and he playfully rolled his eyes at her and smirked. “This guy who was even hotter than Derek, and I will call you a damn liar if you ever tell anyone I just said that…” She pointed at him and he chuckled. “And Latin and I thought oh he’s definitely a player, Mr. Latin Lover. No way a man can look that hot and not have a little black book filled with hot model types whom he had at his beck and call,” This brought a genuine frown and look of hurt to Luke’s face which she noticed. “I know now that’s not who you really are,” Penelope said gently as she reached over and placed her left hand on his right arm, which rested on the arm of the uncomfortable hospital chair he had been sitting in for the last two hours. He nodded and sent her a kind smile. “You know all that stuff they say about hindsight, who knew it was all true?” She joked and he smiled and quietly chuckled. She had a way of doing that to him bringing him happiness, joy, and entertainment at the most unusual times and even when no one else found her antics humorous. Maybe they had all gotten used to her ways over the years, but he never had and prayed he never would because he found her to be so adorable. And he really adored her in general. “I put up walls with you and knew that the only way I could deal with you was if I made myself dislike you, and you made it so hard to keep up that façade almost every day. But then you’d say or do something and I’d be like ‘Ha! Now I remember I don’t like you, Newbie!’.”
“Yeah, I knew you didn’t want to like me and I also understood why, so I tried to make it easier for you,” He shrugged a little and she nodded because he had already told her this before. “Besides I knew eventually you’d grow to love me just as much as I’ve grown to love you,” Luke proclaimed and she snapped wide surprised eyes up at him and found him looking back at her with a serious look on his face. His left brow was arched as if he were waiting for her to challenge or deny his words. Penelope smiled coyly and averted her eyes down to the face of the celebrity on the magazine still in his lap. They sat in comfortable silence for a couple of minutes before Luke spoke again. “So, looks like you’ve found your person,” She scowled a little as she looked over at him.
“Huh?”
“Your person,” He repeated as he dipped his head a bit and looked at her as if to say don’t you remember? “On our date, you said we’d find our ‘person’ someday,” Her face held understanding now as she finally recalled. “So, Tyler Green is-”
“Is not my person,” Penelope quickly interjected as she shook her head at the idea. And he was surprised and internally very pleased to hear this, though he sent her a sad face as he pretended the news was bad.
“Oh, I thought you two were…”
“We had amazing sex once, and I’m talking AMAAAAAZING,” She exaggerated the word and the truth of it a little because she could tell it bothered Luke and then laughed at his adverse reaction.
“Okay, stop, please,” He frowned in genuine disgust and slight anger at the thought that some other guy had given her such pleasure. He had told her he wanted to be the person she would come to when she needed to talk or cry, but this type of conversation had not been what he had meant.
“Honestly, for a second there I thought he had the potential to possibly, maybe be my person…” She admitted.
“But?” He coaxed her to go on when she paused because he really wanted to know the truth of it.
“He lied to me when I asked him if one of the guys on our suspect board was Sicarius. Then I realized he had used me to stay close to the case. For Tyler it had always been about revenge, to avenge his sister by finding her killer and then killing him.”
“Yeah, but some might think that made him noble,” Luke said as he watched her carefully while he tried to gauge if there might still be interest for her where Tyler Green was concerned.
“Maybe, but all I know is he’s a liar, a user, and he’s selfish, none of the characteristics I want in my ‘person’. Also, I did kind of use him just for sex,” This made Luke’s eyes nearly bulge out of his head as he looked at her in true disbelief even as a smile spread across his face. “Look, I had a serious itch that needed scratching because it had been a five-year dry spell so don’t judge me, Luke,” His face morphed into a gentle smile as her face at that moment looked exactly like it had in the elevator when they spoke about her fingering techniques.
“Hey, I get that. I haven’t had any since Lisa,” Luke confessed and it was Penelope’s turn to look at him in shock.
“No way,” She frowned at him not believing him. “You could have any woman you want and you know it. In fact, every woman and a couple of men in this waiting room right now are fantasizing about having you in between their thighs,” She said and then realized the way he was smiling at her and her Freudian slip. “Present company excluded,” She quickly tacked on nervously.
“Well, that doesn’t mean I want them or have any interest in fulfilling their sexual fantasies … Present company excluded,” He replied and smiled some when he saw the redness of her blushing spread across her chest and up her neck as she avoided his eyes. “The truth is I haven’t been looking.”
“Yeah, a pandemic does put a damper on dating and finding someone,” She spoke this as she nodded her head.
“Actually, I didn’t look because I’ve realized that I had already found my person but I gave her up too easily,” His words made Penelope look up at him with widened eyes as she pondered who he might be referring to while she tried to push down the pang of jealousy that instantly smacked her.
“Oh, so, Lisa … You … You and Lisa have reconnected?” She asked and prayed that her disappointment and hurt didn’t show on her face.
“No,” He said as he shook his head slightly. “But it was Lisa who helped me find my person…” He backtracked on his words wanting to give her full disclosure about him and Lisa. “We did hook up a couple of times about a year and a half ago. I think the lockdown had really started to get to both of us and we decided to try to quarantine together. But we fast realized that it was more like you said we had an itch that needed scratching and once we’d done that it became really clear that we were never gonna be anything more than just friends, and now not even that,” Penelope listened quietly as she put on a supportive friend face even though inside, she was very pleased about what she was hearing. “Because she totally hates me now.”
“What? Why?” She scowled in anger at the idea that anyone would be hating on someone she considered not just a friend but her family among other things she didn’t think she would ever speak aloud.
“Do you really want to know?” Luke asked her as he looked at her with a serious look on his face she gulped nervously as she regarded him for a moment, and then she nodded her head for him to continue. “The last time we were having sex …” He found he couldn’t hold her gaze and for a second he thought about lying but then decided he was just tired of this thing they did with each other where they kind of danced around one another when it was so blatantly obvious that there was something between them and that something was definitely other than friendly or platonic in nature. “I called ‘your’ name,” He stated and then remained silent to allow her to react.
“Whoa,” Her mouth fell open in surprise as she tried to stop the giggles that wanted out. “You called another woman’s name during sex. Oh, that is so fucked up, Luke, and yeah, I can totally see why she would hate…” She stopped talking mid-sentence as her brain had finally caught up with the words that he had spoken. “Wait, you called my name … you said ‘Penelope’ while you were balls deep in Lisa?”
“Actually, it was ‘Garcia’,” Luke answered.
“Oh,” Was all she could say as the full weight of what he was saying came down upon her.
“Yeah, oh,” He repeated and nodded as he went on. He figured now was the time for a true confession. In fact, ever since the day before when he realized that she was having sex and there was another guy in the picture he had wanted to say something to her about his feelings. “And when I said your name it kind of brought clarity to Lisa and me both. Lisa started throwing out accusations about my liking you and that, that was why I seemed to always plan to get to gather with the team on days I knew she had to work so that way you two would never be around each other. And why I would constantly shoot down Phil whenever he would ask me to hook you two up. And she was right, everything she was saying was the truth, but I hadn’t even realized it until that very moment. I didn’t want Lisa to ever come to our gatherings and I did always plan them on days I knew she’d be at the hospital; like my housewarming party and Matt and Kristy’s baby shower. And I did that because I didn’t want you to see me with Lisa in any romantic way. And Phil, I am so sorry, I know when you asked me if he ever asked about you, I told you no,” He swallowed down the lump in his throat as he thought about his deceased best friend and partner. “But really, he asked about you all the time, every time we hung out in fact. He really wanted me to help him get a date with you but I wouldn’t …I couldn’t because I didn’t want him or anyone else dating you. And I knew you weren’t seeing anyone seriously back then and I wanted to keep it that way. Yeah, I know I had some nerve, cockblocking you while I had Lisa in my bed. Oh, and she also pointed out to me that you were the reason why I hardly ever touched her sexually during our relationship. I would always make up excuses that I was tired or a case was getting to me. It also helped that she worked long and odd hours at the hospital which made our schedules out of sync. But really, I feared having sex with her because deep down inside she wasn’t whom I wanted in my bed and I think subconsciously I always knew I was going to slip up and say the name of the person I did want there. And I finally did,” He finished and then took a deep cleansing and shaky breath as he looked at her face which was unreadable. She had sat the entire time listening to him spill his secrets and pour his heart out to her and her face gave nothing away to tell him what she might be thinking.
“Luke, are you saying that I’m your person?” Penelope asked calmly as she looked at him in kindness. But before he could reply she spoke again. “Because I think you’re my person too,” She proclaimed, and the elation at hearing this instantly fell to his face. “I didn’t even realize it until I was having sex with Tyler. Just like you, while Tyler and I were doing the do I was totally thinking about you. Now, I never called out your name because I have class and manners unlike some people,” She tossed him a teasing smile and he smirked in return. “And while sex with Tyler was great,” She giggled when Luke groaned and rolled his eyes upward. “I knew that it would be so much better with you and afterward I realized that I wanted it to be with you.”
“I want it to be with you too, Penelope,” Luke said as he shifted his right arm where her left hand still rested and then he grasped her left hand in his right hand and interlocked their fingers. “So, should we go on a second date?” He suggested and she scrunched her nose up to the idea.
“Do we really need to?” She questioned and he arched his brows and smiled at her. “I mean we know each other pretty well now, and we are ‘friends’ … not frenemies but friends,” She tacked on with a knowing smile that he reciprocated as he nodded. “And we like, like each other, we really want to have sex with each other, and we’ve literally waited for years to do it, so I say we should just do that.”
“Yeah, we should totally do that,” Luke replied with a huge smile and they both stood up from their chairs and hand-in-hand they made their way out of the waiting room. They were up on the fifth floor which was where the ICU was and where Tyler had been taken after his surgery. And as they made their way down the corridor and headed to the elevators, both Luke and Penelope were scanning rooms as they passed them. “We are not even going to make it out of this hospital, are we?” He spoke out again.
“Nope, not if we can find an empty room with a lock on the door,” She stated.

Chapter 15
After being abruptly transferred to the BAU at what she suspects was Gideon's request, Cassie Boann struggles to find her footing. Shy and solitary by nature, the transition is made all the more difficult when Dr. Spencer Reid seems to take an almost immediate dislike to her. Unfortunately for them both, their respective areas of expertise leave them paired off more often than not. But when Cassie's past literally starts hunting her, Spencer is forced to consider that he might, in fact, not hate her at all.
Quite the opposite, actually.

15. And She Was
Cassie didn’t know when their sporadic hangouts had become a ‘thing,’ as Derek so eloquently put it. When they’d started sitting next to each other and blathering away on their ride home on the metro instead of reading on opposite sides of the train car. When they’d taken to grabbing dinner together more often than not after a late night at the office. When they’d gravitated towards the couch on the plane so Spencer could beat her so badly at cards.
When they’d become friends.
She wasn’t complaining though—it was nice to spend her Friday nights seeing arthouse movies instead of pouring over crime scene photos, to have someone to share a meal with that wasn’t Chuck, who now wore the ugliest Christmas sweater she could find in honor of the season.
Still, it didn’t stop the guilt. No matter how hard she tried to convince herself that she wasn’t letting her parents’ case fall by the wayside, she couldn’t halt the nagging guilt that every minute perusing bookstores or getting Thai food or sitting on Spencer’s couch was a minute not spent hunting down their killer.
“Cass!”
She looked up to see Spencer waving at her from across the street. He wore a long woolen coat and gloves, a long woolen scarf draped over top more as an accessory than anything else. His horned-rimmed glasses glinted in the winter sun, his wide smile evident even from a distance. She waved back, saving her progress on her laptop before slipping it back in her bag.
It wasn’t as if she had stopped looking. She’d just started living too.
“Sorry I’m late, the Red Line was a disaster.”
“It’s fine, I had evidence to look over.”
“You know overworking leads to cardiac issues and lowered productivity.”
“Shut up, you sound like Gideon.”
Spencer just laughed. “You’re just upset I’m right.”
Cassie rolled her eyes, making a face as she mimicked him. It only made Spencer laugh harder.
“Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.”
“If we stand out here not more minute my fingers are going to fall off.”
“It’s like you’ve never heard of winter,” Spencer said, pulling off his scarf to wrap it around her. She stiffened looking up at him with wide eyes.
“What?”
“You hate germs.”
“You’re cold.”
“Spencer—“
“Come on, I thought your fingers were falling off. It’s only a couple more blocks to the restaurant.”
---
The tavern was rather small, but cozy, lit mostly by fake candle-esque lighting scattered about. It had a fire roaring in the large stone fireplace, an antique kettle hung from the mantle. Cassie had heard about it from Ayesh, who’d told her they had ‘the lamest open mic nights he’d ever heard.’ Which turned out to mean it was a favorite spot for the nearby Conservatory students to perform more classical work.
Spencer watched Cassie warm her hands over her cup of mulled wine, her face still red from the cold. She’d shucked off her black peacoat—at least she’d worn a proper coat this time instead of her old, oversized corduroy jacket that might have started out some sort of burgandy but had faded to somewhere closer to raspberry. Though he could tell it couldn’t be nearly as warm as the weather called for, it was far too thin. He got the feeling she wasn’t a big shopper, especially the it came to anything casual. She had about six outfits she wore in various combination outside of cases, nearly all of them well-worn to some extent.
He didn’t think it was so much that she wasn’t one for fashion, it was more that she had a pathological aversion to caring for herself beyond the most basic sense. The fact that she’d put on weight since they’d started regularly hanging out—healthy, much needed weight—told him that if left to her own devices she had a disordered eating schedule at best. Paired with her constant training—he’d put her body fat somewhere under 13%.
That was probably a big factor in why she was always so cold.
He remembered her reaction when he’d wrapped his scarf around her—he hadn’t been thinking of anything except the way she was trying to hide her shivering, but she’d been worried about his own aversion to germs. Had he done anything he wouldn’t have done for anyone on the team? Granted, they all seemed to dress warm enough for the cold, but it was simply a kind gesture of a friend.
Nothing more.
He wished it sounded a little more convincing, at least in his head.
“…so then after primary decomposition, they sever the head from the spinal column, cover it in a plaster compound and mold it into the shape of the deceased’s face, incorporating bits of shell and other precious items to serve as eyes. These were incredibly intricate burial masks, depicting facial hair, defining features. Mind you, then they bury them back under the kitchen floor in most cases.”
“I think I missed something,” Spencer said, blinking rapidly. Cassie just grinned.
“You were day-dreaming so I wanted to see how far into Levantian burial practice I could get before you tuned back in.”
“Sorry, I didn’t—”
“Don’t be sorry, I was just teasing you.”
He couldn’t help but meet her smile with his own.
“So how’s your dissertation going? I can’t imagine you’ve had much time to work on it with our caseload lately.”
Cassie made a face, taking a large sip of her second glass of wine. “You sound like Dr. Garvey.”
“Is that a bad thing?”
“Yes. No. Depends.”
“Because you don’t want to defend it yet?”
“Don’t profile me.”
“I’m not, I’m just—I know it’s a really nerve-wracking process and I just thought if you wanted someone to read it over and practice I could help you out.”
“It’s just not there yet, you know? And—I don’t want it getting out at work that I’m working on it.”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t want them to think I’m not serious about my position at the BAU and it doesn’t really have anything to do with work. It’s just something I do for myself, you know?”
“No, not at all. I think everyone would be pretty impressed—“
“Just please, don’t tell them? I know it’s stupid, I just—I want to keep that part of my life separate. I know it doesn’t seem like a big distinction, but it is for me.”
“Yeah, of course. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”
“It’s fine, you didn’t. I just—I like the distance of archaeology. The emotional distance. I don’t get that kind of detachment at work. In the lab it’s a puzzle that no one’s been able to figure out and in the field—in the field half the times it feels like being up to your elbows in the consequences of failure. It’s finding every piece of horror the victim was put through and knowing the terror, the pain that filled them in their last moments.”
“Doesn’t that weigh on you? I mean—Dr. Garvey told me he’d have you running the unidentified collection by the time you were thirty if he had his way. It’s clear that you’re incredible at what you do—why put yourself through the trauma a of all that over and over?”
“Because I hopefully can prevent more bodies from ending up on my table. Because their stories deserve to be told, their identities confirmed. Because I know what that type of fear is like, what it does to a person.”
She broke off, her gaze shifting to something far away, her brow furrowed. He saw a flash of her blood-soaked face after she burst out of the forest in Whitefish, of the dozens of jagged scars that littered her skin. He reached out without thinking and grabbed her hand across the table, dwarfing it in his own. She looked up at that, seemingly shaking herself from her thoughts.
“The Smithsonian also won’t issue me a gun, which I think is pretty lame.”
She gave him a big, over dramatic eye roll, one side of her mouth quirking up. Spencer snorted, shaking his head.
“I am very clearly Rick and they want me to be Evie.”
---
They found themselves meandering down the road after, aimlessly heading towards the Red Line. Spencer had insisted that she keep his scarf for the night and she’d promised to have it dry cleaned, which he’d insisted wasn’t necessary.
Cassie was filled with a warm fuzzy feeling that was just as likely to be the three glasses of wine she’d enjoyed with dinner as it was the easy comfort that Spencer’s presence had become.
More so. It was definitely the wine.
She stopped abruptly in front of the Warner theatre, lit up for the night’s performance. It hardly looked different from her childhood, the same grey stone and art deco lighting. The marquee was advertising The Firebird. Spencer stopped a few paces ahead, circling back, brow raised.
“My mother was the Firebird here, many years ago. That was how she met my father.”
“Your mother was a ballerina?”
“In Kiev. She was very talented—the Bolshoi Ballet wanted her desperately but she defected while they were on tour. She danced for the Washington Ballet for the rest of her career.”
“That’s how you speak Russian and Ukrainian.”
She nodded. “Both my parents were Soviet defectors, but my mother never wanted me to lose that heritage. There was no love lost between the old country and my father, but my mother—my mother missed it, I think. Missed Kiev, missed her family. But she loved my father and I, loved the life we were able to have in America.”
She laughed, using the moment to brush away the tears threatening to spill down her cheeks. They were just as soon replaced by others, and she dropped her head to try and hide them.
“Hey,” Spencer said, hesitating a moment before wrapping her in a hug. She stiffened at his touch before melting into him, burying her face in his chest.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, it’s okay.”
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I just—I must have had too much wine.”
“I’m here if you want to talk about it.”
“I know, Spence, but I can’t,” she said as she pulled away. She gave him a trembling smile. “I really had a great night. I wish I could stay out but I really have to go home.”
“Are you sure you’re okay? I can walk you back—“
“I’m fine, Spence, please don’t worry about me. It was more than enough that you listened.”
She turned quickly on her heel before he could see the next wave of tears, before the trembling took over and she truly lost it. The marquee has hit her like a ton of bricks, knocking her so far asunder—
And Spencer had hugged her, just held her as she ruined the wool of his coat with her tears, as she made a scene in front of all the passerby’s.
God, he must think her an idiot.
It’s what she deserved, for bringing up her mother. For not feigning that she had stopped to tie her shoe and swallowing down all the memories, all the grief that came with it.
This was why she didn’t go out, didn’t get close with anyone—she couldn’t let down walls or else everything would just come tumbling out, destroying everything she’d managed to build in their shadows.
She managed to get back to her apartment before she fell apart entirely. She did little more than make sure each of the five locks on the door was locked before she tugged off her jacket and buried herself in her bed. She sobbed like she hadn’t sobbed in months, in years until she ran out of tears and she couldn’t hold her eyes open.
It was only then that she remembered Spencer’s scarf was still wrapped around her neck, the soft wool of it retaining his scent—like wood and old books and coffee, always coffee. She pulled it off, folding it gently so as not to ruin it.
She placed it on the empty pillow on the other side of the bed before curling back into a ball and letting sleep finally take her.

Dethroned (Requested)
Tumblr media
A/N: I know the request said the relationship between Reader and Luke is platonic, but I kinda dropped subtle hints that Luke is slightly pining for Reader... oop.
Request: smutty post-prison Reid being jealous. Like him just being absolutely in love with reader, like he had been since she joined the BAU but was too nervous to say anything so settled for being mega close best friends. Then when he returns from prison he finds out that her and Luke have become close friends whilst he’s been gone (its simply platonic though) and he ends up snapping and just absolutely annihilating the reader over her desk in the office after everyone else has left
Pairing: Post Prison!Spencer x Fem!Reader
Category: Smut
Content Warning: jealous!spencer, exhibition, hair pulling, degradation/praise, penetrative sex, unprotected sex, breeding kink

______
It was a gradual realization on his part. Spencer was so overwhelmed with coming home, his mom and Cat to even really take notice in the shift of your attention from him to Luke Alvez.
It wasn’t like you completely ignored him since his return. You were Spencer’s best friend, the title he settled on all those years ago when you all but skipped into the BAU and into his life.
And it wasn’t like you didn’t have other male friends. Before his leave, Derek and you had gotten along pretty well right off the bat, and Spencer never thought about it twice. If anything, he was ecstatic that two people that were so important in his life were also important to each other.
But when Spencer was stuck behind physical bars that represented every feeling for you he’s tried to keep at bay, you found comfort in Luke. He couldn’t blame you for that either, especially when the first time you visited him all he could see was hurt in your eyes, and all he could do was stare back with the same expression.
The first time he noticed the shift was after everything had settled, and the groove of life, for the team at least, was back in motion. You all had decided to go out and grab a drink, and the second you agreed, Spencer was also on board. He would follow you just about anywhere if it meant the smile on your face when he said yes stayed forever.
Luke had whispered something in your ear, the music in the bar too loud for Spencer to catch what it was. It had to be hilarious by the way you threw your head back in laughter, Luke’s eyes immediately dropping to the newly exposed skin, before nudging his shoulder with yours.
Spencer couldn't keep his eyes off the conversation in front of him. He should have when the grip on his glass was so hard it could’ve shattered.
“You know, kid, if you talked to her, she’d know how you feel,” Rossi had told him that night.
“That’s exactly why I can’t,” Spencer thought in his head, but merely gave Rossi a whatever, and walked away to the bathroom. He stared at himself in the mirror that night, hoping the disgust he felt for how angry he got whenever he saw you with Luke was enough to make it disappear.
It never did.
Like right now, Spencer sat at his desk, a rubber band ball being suffocated in his hand as he watched you perch yourself on top of Luke’s desk. It was an innocent act on you part, but the way Luke leaned back in his chair, opening himself up to you, and allowed his eyes to flicker to your bare legs that were swinging back and forth softly was definitely not innocent... not in Spencer’s book anyway.
It came as no surprise to Spencer that Luke would at the very least find you attractive. You were, in every aspect. Spencer could stare at your for hours, and sometimes, he did.
He would look at the way your skirt hugged your curves in the best possible way, or he would stare at your neck when you leaned back to stretch out. He would watch the way you crossed and uncrossed your legs, a nervous habit you’ve always had. Spencer would think about how soft they probably were, like silk rubbing against each other.
But now Luke was also looking at you like that while you talked about what you were going to do this weekend.
“If you’re not busy, you should totally come,” you told him, obviously excited with the idea of Luke tagging along to wherever you planned on going.
“Yeah, I think I can make that work,” he agreed, and when he did, you jumped up off his desk, enthusiasm practically dripping from you.
“Yes! It’ll be so much fun, I promise!” And then you did the one thing Spencer silently begged you would never. You kissed Luke on the cheek before scurrying back to your desk.
Of course you would kiss him on the cheek. To you, that was a seemingly innocent and friendly action, one that Spencer had been on the receiving end of for the past 10 years.
But now, Luke stole his crown and was flaunting it in front of Spencer’s face like an older brother who just got an XBOX for Christmas. Okay, maybe Spencer was a tad on the dramatic side, but how could he not be when Luke all but physically railed you over his desk when his eyes unashamedly did?
There were many things Spencer could take and get back up like nothing had happened. He’s been shot, punched, kicked, framed for murder and hell, he even stabbed himself, but none of that compared to the deep rooted anger that blossomed in his chest like a flame to gasoline when the thought of Luke touching you swarmed his brain.
Enough was enough.
“Alright, you’ve all worked enough today. Please, go home and get some rest,” Emily’s voice traveled from outside her office door to the agents that still inhabited the bullpen like a second home. Most, including Emily in its rarity, gathered their stuff to finally call it a night.
“So, you’ll text me the information?” Luke asked you as he was putting his jacket on. You had yet to move from your slouched position over whatever paperwork you insisted on finishing before leaving.
“Yeah, definitely!” You beamed up at him before returning back to your case file immediately. Luke walked away with a little more pep in his step than usual per Spencer’s analysis.
“Hey, Spence. Do you think you can hang back a second and look over this for me?” You asked him, catching the attention of the stumbling genius as he tried to get back to his apartment as fast as possible and deal with his... issues with you and SSA Luke Alvez.
He was going to say no, really he tried, but when he looked up to your puppy dog eyes and slight pout, how could he? Spencer knew you were giving him that face on purpose, he had told you in the past that if you were to ever give him your best puppy dog eyes, he could never refuse.
Now it was coming back to bite him in the...
“Uh, yeah, sure.” Spencer made his way over to your desk that was piled high in paperwork more than anyone else’s.
“I took a bunch of work home, and I accidentally dropped all my files and they scattered every where. So now, all the paperwork is mixed up and Emily needs these by tonight. Basically I’m screwed, but I just wanted to make sure the arsonist in Kentu-”
“I’ll help you,” Spencer interrupted your rambling once he got a grip on himself after adjusting to being so close to you. The smell of your perfume wafted into Spencer’s nose and got him drunk faster than any alcohol could ever.
“Oh no, Spence. Don’t worry I can handle this,” you immediately shut him down, but Spencer was not easy to convince, and once his mind is set to something, there’s no changing it.
“I want to, trust me.” Spencer had started to roll his desk chair over to you. You sat there momentarily stunned for two reasons:
1. He had dropped everything to help you.
2. He wasn’t affected by the close proximity of you two the same way you were, or at least knew how to hide it really well.
The buzzing of your phone on your desk pulled you from your trance as Spencer settled next to you and went to pull a new file from your overgrowing pile.
You picked it up to find a text from Luke, opening your phone to a picture of Roxy enjoying the toy you got her last week.
Spencer turned to you to find you smiling and letting out a breathy laugh at your phone.
“What?” He asked, more sarcasm dripping from his tone than expected. If you noticed, you didn’t say anything.
“Just Luke and Roxy. I love that dog so much,” you said while putting your phone on silent and setting it face down. You didn’t look up at Spencer, but if you did you’d find him beet red with anger, and holding the armrests of his chair a little tighter than necessary.
“Hm,” was all he mumbled in response. This, you didn’t ignore.
“Is something wrong? You really don't have to do this with me,” you fumbled over your words, worried that your clumsiness and disorganization was what was annoying Spencer.
“No no, it’s not this. I like paperwork, actually.” You finally looked over at Spencer to find him already staring at you. His gaze bore into you like a blade to the gut, his intensity something you had never been on the receiving end of. It would be a lie if you were to say it wasn’t making you nervous.
“Then what is it.” Your words were not meant to come out as a whisper, but with Spencer’s intimidation and the way it made your stomach flip, you were overwhelmed already.
“Nothing, just, uh,” his confident persona was gone just as quickly as it came. “You and Luke, huh?”
Now it makes sense. You couldn’t help the small smile that etched across your features at his unknowing admission. Spencer Reid was jealous, actually jealous.
“Yeah, he’s a great friend.” Your emphasis on the word friend did not go unnoticed by Spencer, but he couldn’t stop himself from letting the words crawling up his throat out.
“I’m sure he thinks the same about you. The profile in this case fi-”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Two can play at this game, and if it was going to end the way the two of you were unknowingly both hoping, you would have to succumb to the rules.
“Hm? Oh! So you’re oblivious to the way he looks at you?” Spencer spat back, jealous intimidation turning to full anger now.
“Jesus, Spencer. Of course I’m not oblivious, but that doesn’t mean I look at him like that.” At this point, you stood up from your chair, Spencer’s approach throwing you off and getting you more worked up than you cared to admit.
“Besides, I have eyes for someone else,” you mumbled quietly under your breath, but Spencer caught it. “I’m calling the night. I suggest you do the same.”
You picked up as many files you could, not wanting to reach over Spencer before turning around to make you descent home.
Before you could get far, though, Spencer grabbed your elbow and spun you back to crash into his hard chest. You gasped, not making eye contact and instead opting for staring at his lips.
“Who?” Spencer asked, also not looking up from your lips. Both of your minds swarmed with the desperation to feel each other’s against your own.
“You.” And that was all he needed to finally succumb to his mind’s wishes. Your lips moved together like a violin bow to a string, creating a perfectly conducted symphony of files falling from your arms and deep inhales of each other.
Spencer reached out behind you, never taking his lips off yours and pushed anything that was on your desk with a deafening crash. Pens, papers and tape now littered the bullpen floor, but you couldn’t bring yourself to care when all you could feel were Spencer’s hands gripping your waist as he hoisted you up to sit you on your now clear desk.
His lips finally detached from yours, the need for oxygen getting in the way of a kiss you wish could last for eternity. They didn’t go very far, Spencer attacking your neck with little nips, surely to leave incriminating bruises. Your hips started to involuntarily roll forward, searching for friction from his hardening member still constrained by his work slacks.
“Spencer, please,” you begged, needing to feel him, all of him at this moment. His lips abandoned your neck to slowly pull back and scan your body like a predator indulging in his final prey one last time before he answered.
“Please what, Princess,” Spencer whispered, his hands moving down to grip your thighs that were attempting to squeeze together at your new pet name.
“Please, fuck me,” you whimpered back. His deep chuckle resonated through you as he leaned closer until he was directly next to your ear, his hot breath fanning down your neck causing you to arch your back slightly.
“Right here on your desk like a little whore,” he whispered against you, his lips grazing the shell of your ear. Spencer shook his head slightly as he pulled back to grab your chin lightly with two fingers, forcing your head back.
He leaned in as close as possible to whisper against your lips one last time. “Only for you.”
Time stopped as hands sped up in a frenzy to rip each other’s clothes off, lips molding together like a lock and key never wanting to separate, and hips involuntarily grinding against each other in search for some friction in an overwhelming search for release.
Only when Spencer gave up on your shirt buttons and ripped the fabric apart, adding drums in the form of buttons hitting the desk and floor to the song you two collectively decided to dance to tonight, did he allow his lips to leave yours. Slowly, he nipped his way back down your neck, pushing you back softly until your body fully rolled down on the cool wood underneath you.
Spencer’s eyes found yours again as his hands inched behind you, silently asking for permission to break down yet another barrier between your two bodies. After a pleading whimper from you, he unclasped your bra and slowly pulled it down your arms.
Spencer maintained eye contact as he wrapped his mouth around your nipple, swirling his tongue around the peak before sinking his teeth in teasingly. Your back arched into him, a strangled whimper leaving your body as the heat between your thighs increased significantly.
“Spencer please hurry. I need you,” you whimpered softly, pulling his hair back from the top of his head in hopes of getting him in an area far more dire in need of attention.
“Do you know how long I’ve wanted this?” Spencer mumbles in between kisses inching back up your body. His hands make their way under your skirt as he continues. “I want to take my time with you, but given our circumstances,” he paused to take a look at the deserted bullpen. “I’ll give you what you want, and fuck you like a whore.”
There was no other way to explain the way Spencer ripped your panties off so hard the lace snapped under his force than animalistic. He wasted no time stuffing them into his back pocket, and fully separating from you to stand straight and unbuckle his belt. Spencer’s eyes stared down at you, taking in every part of your body to file away in his brain in case he ever needs it. His once honey brown orbs were now absorbed with black, his pupils full and his eyes displaying a kind of fire only lust can fuel.
Once his belt was fully off, he smirked and folded it in his hands. Staring at the new object of his desire, he tantalizingly shook it back and forth slowly, watching the way it bounced with his movements.
“Should I gag you with this so you don't alert the whole goddamn building of how desperate you are?” Spencer looked back at you to find your cheeks a deep shade of red, partially at his degrading tone, but mostly at the idea of being gagged.
“No, sir. I wanna feel you.” The title slipped past your lips with no control or hesitation. Your cheeks burned further as Spencer’s movements stopped, his eyes widening slightly.
“Fuck it,” he whispered before throwing the belt on the floor and unzipping his pants with more speed than you've ever seen him move.
Spencer gave you zero time to even register his size before he was stepping in between your legs, lining himself up and slamming into you to the hilt with one hand, the other grabbed a fistful of your hair, pulling back hard, all while never taking his eyes off you.
You couldn’t stop the loud gasp leaving your body as Spencer groaned at the feeling of you around him.
“God, you’re so fucking tight, Princess,” he grounded out, the soft growl in his tone causing you to whimper and clench around him.
When he felt you start to squirm underneath him after adjusting to his size, Spencer started to move, setting a brutal pace immediately. Your entire body felt like it became engulfed in flames, the feeling of Spencer repeatedly hitting the sweetest spot inside you over and over with a force unmatched was too much to handle.
Tears started to well in your eyes as the soft whimpers and pleads left your lips. Spencer pulled himself from his position tucked neatly into your neck to stare down at you, never relenting on his pace.
“What’s wrong, Princess,” he teased, a smirk growing across his features at your tears. “Is it too much for your little cunt? What happened to the girl that begged to be fucked like a whore?”
Spencer let go of his grip on your hair to wipe the tears blackened with mascara that were running down your face.
“So good, sir. Please don’t stop,” you mumbled, only half coherent. The only thing you could focus on was the feeling of Spencer filling you completely. His dark eyes flickered down from your face only for a second, but when he looked back up at you, excitement joined the lust in them, a swirl of emotions destined to destroy you in the end.
Spencer grabbed one of your hands that was gripping his shoulder, nails digging into the skin and leaving marks he wished would last forever. He placed in on your stomach, and confusion filled your mind for a moment until you felt the tip of his cock hit your hand.
“You feel that, Princess? You feel how deep I am? I’m gonna fill you up.” Your back arched, and you finally released a loud, wanton moan at his words. Spencer didn’t miss the way you clenched around him tighter at the thought. “God, I’m gonna fill you up with my cum, make you - fuck- carry my child. Make sure everyone knows who you belong to.”
You felt the knot in your stomach growing tighter with each word, and when Spencer lifted one of your legs into the crook of his elbow, hitting you impossibly deeper, you knew you weren't going to last much longer.
“Oh G-god, Spence. I- I’m gonna....”
“It’s okay, Princess. I’ve got you,” he groaned back, lifting two fingers to your lips before forcing them into your mouth. Instinctively, you hollowed out your cheeks and sucked on his digits. “Let go, Princess.”
All you needed was his permission before letting your orgasm rock through you, the muscles in your body seemingly losing and gaining all the tension in the world at once, your vision going white, and your mind blank except for one thought; Spencer.
Your loud moans were blocked by his fingers pushing deeper down your throat, catching them before any unwanted guests could hear.
Your moans started to turn to whimpers around his fingers as the overstimulation kicked in. Spencer could sense it by the way you still clung to him as tightly as possible.
“Fuck that’s it. You’re doing so well, Princess, taking all of me,” he growled out, his hips losing their rhythm, signaling his own impending orgasm. Spencer leaned down further, pushing your leg farther up in the process, and again, hitting you deeper than imaginable.
Two more sloppy thrusts in that position, and Spencer was coming deep in you with your name and different praises being groaned in your ear. He bottomed out once more, coming to a stop buried deep, both of you trying your hardest to catch your breath.
When he started to pull out, you whimpered immediately at the feeling.
“I know, sweetheart. I’m almost done,” Spencer whispered, caressing your cheek as he fully unsheathed himself. The abandoned weight of him on top of you, and the loss of his cock filling you up left you cold as he went to rummage through your drawers for tissues, but all you could do was stare up at the lights hanging from the ceiling, your body still slightly twitching.
When Spencer returned to you, he sat you up and kissed your forehead before reaching in between your legs to clean you up. The second the tissue hit your sensitive cunt, you winced.
Spencer looked back up at you but before he could say anything, you cut him off.
“It’s okay. I’m okay,” you reassured him, smiling softly as you reached up to caress his cheek. Upon your approval, he went back to cleaning you up. “Actually, I’m more than okay. That was.. That was-”
“Yeah,” he said, chuckling slightly and shaking his head. “I know, right?”
“Maybe we should thank Luke,” you teased him. Immediately, his smile faded and he looked up at you with an expression that can only read “Seriously?”
You let out a full laugh now, obviously still entertained with the idea that the Dr. Spencer Reid was jealous of Luke Alvez.
“I’m joking,” you said, your smile turning from one of hilarity to adoration as Spencer straightened back up to stand between your legs and wrap his arms around your waist. “And Spence, it’s always been you. Not Luke, not anyone else. You.” You emphasized your point by jabbing a finger into his chest.
“Good, because that would make this really awkward,” he said back. You tilted your head in confusion to which he laughed at before continuing. “Do you want to go grab dinner?”
Your cheeks blushed profusely as he asked you out as if you didn’t just let him take you over your own desk at work.
“I would love to say yes, but I still have to finis-” When you turned around to look at the pile of paperwork you had yet to complete, it was no longer on your desk, but scattered around it. During the rush of trying to feel each other completely, the two of you failed to notice the stack of files that started this whole thing had fallen all over the bullpen floor.
“Emily is going to kill me,” you said, turning back to Spencer who was still staring at the now empty spot on your desk.
“Actually, she has two reasons to kill us now.” You threw you head back in laughter, Spencer joining you at the thought of Emily finding out about the last 30 minutes. “But seriously, you go deal with the security footage, and I’ll deal with the paperwork.”
“Hmmmm...” You pretended to ponder the thought of not having to do all of that paperwork by yourself anymore. “Deal.”
“Deal,” Spencer repeated back, smiling softly before kissing you one more time.

Prompt - I knew I did from that first moment we met. It was…not love at first sight exactly, but - familiarity. Like: oh, hello, it’s you. It’s going to be you.
—————————————————–
Spencer Reid knew from the moment he laid eyes on you that you were something else, he could tell from one glance that you would change his life. No words needed to be exchanged for the man to be completely and utterly taken by you. He watched as you walked through the door, though your head was held high, shoulders pushed back giving the impression of complete confidence, he saw the way you fiddled with the strap of your bag with one hand. When he looked at your other hand he could see your forefinger picking at your thumb, clearly a nervous habit. He watched as you looked around the room, watched as Rossi made his way over to you, guiding you over to Hotch’s office with a smile.
“Down, pretty boy.” Derek grinned as Spencer startled, his head snapping around to face Derek just as you entered Hotch’s office. “I’ve never seen that look on your face and you don’t even know her name.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Spencer replied, cringing at how unconvincing he sounded.
He turned away from Derek and tried to focus on his paperwork but he could stop his eyes from straying over to the closed office door every few minutes much to Derek and Rossi’s amusement.
“Who is she anyway?” Derek asked.
“She’s lucky number ten,” Rossi told them, smothering a smile as Spencer looked over, “who knew finding another agent would be so difficult.”
“Wait,” another voice interrupted, “there’s a new person here? Is she nice? Why is that always my first question?” The group laughed as Penelope quizzed Rossi.
“Listen, I know as much as you people.” He said and before anyone else could speak Penelope was being handed a folder causing them all to groan.
-
“Agent Hotchner?” You asked as you were granted access to the office.
Hotch stood as you walked in, moving around his desk to hold a hand out to you.
“Yes and you’re Y/F/N Y/L/N, I presume?” He asked, smiling slightly at you as you nodded, still fiddling with your bag. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, please have a seat.”
“Thank you sir.” You smiled, taking a seat in the offered chair watching as he made his way back behind his desk.
“Your supervisor spoke very highly of you when I spoke with him, your success rate is impressive.” Hotch praised, glancing down at the file in front of him. “Your latest case seemed rather difficult, are you sure you’re ready to be back in the field again?”
“I passed all my psychiatric exams, I was cleared to return.” You told him stiffly.
“I’m aware of your results, I just want to be sure you’re ready. Infiltrating yourself into the life of Douglas Miller couldn’t have been an easy feat.” Hotch watched as a look of satisfaction took over your face.
“I’m ready, sir.” You told him, relaxing slightly. “It was a tough case, I’ll be the first to admit that seeing what I saw had an impact but I can do this.”
Hotch smiled at you before closing the folder.
“I believe you,” he said, “I think you’ll be a valuable addition to this team.”
The words were what you were hoping to hear, you’d wanted a job with the BAU for longer than you could remember but you paused. Surely it wasn’t that easy, right?
“Wait? That’s it?” You asked.
“That’s it.” Hotch confirmed, fighting back a smile at your expression.
“But- but I’ve been here less than five minutes.” You countered back, there were so many emotions going on within you that you felt slightly overwhelmed.
“Y/N, ever since your name was put forward I looked into your work and I was impressed. Your skills at undercover work are far above what I’ve seen in a long time, that alone would be an incredibly useful assest to the team but on top of that your ability to connect and empathise with unsubs, fast thinking and your profiling skills- trust me, you deserve this job and I have complete faith in you.” Hotch’s words had left you speechless, you had no clue how to respond but thankfully you didn’t have to as the door was pushed open and both you and Hotch turned to look at the brightly dressed woman in the doorway.
“I’m sorry to interrupt sir but we have a case.” The woman said and Hotch stood gesturing for you to follow.
“You have a to go bag?” He asked as you both walked out the door.
“Yes sir.” You nodded, still baffled by how well things had gone.
“Good, welcome to the team Y/L/N.”
-
“Everyone, this is SSA Y/F/N Y/L/N. I’m sure proper introductions can be made later.” Hotch said as the two of you entered the room before gesturing to Garcia that she could begin.
“Ok, yes, so, we have five bodies so far found in Wyoming. The first two bodies were hidden amongst some trees close to firehole bay. The ME presumes that the time of death was mostly likely a week ago but we should have full confirmation when you arrive. The victims, who we haven’t been able to identify yet, but I am working on it, were stripped completely and the wounds, that are in your files because I so do not need to see that, show heavy signs of torture. ” Garcia informed you all.
“The next body was a single male, again stripped and tortured and the ME says this death is most likely four to five days old. This body was found a few miles away from Basin Bay Point campsite.”
“Wait a second,” somebody interrupted, causing you to turn your head. There sat a man, younger than the rest of the team, he was…how you had missed him you didn’t know but now you felt like you couldn’t look away. “If I’m not mistaken those places are roughly twenty miles from each other at walking distance.”
“And driving distance?” An older man asked.
“I don’t think there is a way to drive to Basin Bay Point, especially not to where the body was left.” The younger man replied, looking down at the folder he was given with a frown.
“I’ll have a map ready for you on the plane.” Penelope assured him before continuing. “Now, the next two bodies were the most recent, ME says they were killed a day or two ago and these victims we have been able to identify as Taylor Gomez and her boyfriend Jack Gaskarth.” Penelope said as she brought their pictures up. “They were never reported missing because they had told friends and family they were going camping, which checks out because their bodies were found three miles away from Lewis Lake campground. They show the same wounds as the other vics.” Garcia explained.
You grimaced as you looked down at the tablet Hotch had passed you as you saw a young man and woman, naked with slices all across their bodies, as well as deep bruising to the neck.
“What was the CoD, Garcia?” The younger man spoke up again.
“ME still needs to run a full examination but her best bet is that it was asphyxiation.” She told him with a frown.
“That makes sense, there isn’t a lot of blood or scabbing which suggests they were done post mortem.”
“So what,” you spoke up, pausing for a moment when everyone turned to you, “the unsub blitz attacks the victims and kills them before torturing them? What’s the point in that?”
“It could be a number of things actually. Perhaps it’s not about the kills for him but more to do with the fascination of the human body, we’ve seen it before where curiosity leads to this kind of attack. It could also be that he has to kill, he has a compulsion to kill and once he’s given into that compulsion he gets to fulfil other urges. If I had to guess I’d say the victims are victims of opportunity-” The younger man rambled, his hands gesturing in front of him as he spoke causing you to smile.
“Because there is no set pattern, he crosses race and gender lines and there’s no secondary location.” You cut off the other man who looked at you with a grin.
“Exactly, the area is so isolated that he can get away with quick and easy killings but because it doesn’t seem like there’s a secondary location yet we have to presume that the torture is a means to satisfy himself when he can’t hold his victims hostage.”
“It’s a long flight and this unsub doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Wheels up in fifteen.” Hotch said as he stood up, everyone was quick to follow until it was just you and the guy you had spoken to left.
“Hi.” He said, causing you to turn around with a smile.
“Hi.”
“I’m Spencer, Spencer Reid.” He introduced himself.
“Y/F/N Y/L/N, nice to meet you.” You replied, reaching out your hand to shake his, your eyebrows pulling together slightly as he shook his head.
“Sorry, I don’t um,” He said, causing you to drop your hand and nod understandingly, “it’s nothing against you, just…germs.” He trailed off, berating himself in his head.
“No problem.” You smiled again, god that smile. Spencer felt his heart race.
“Congratulations on joining the team.” He praised as the two of you walked out of the round table room.
“Thank you, I’ve wanted this for so long.” He watched as the smile fell from your face before you shook your head slightly.
“Is everything ok?” He asked, understanding the nerves. He couldn’t help but glance down, almost smiling as he saw you picking at your thumb.
“Yeah, I’m just, what if I mess up?” You couldn’t help but ask. After wanting this job for as long as you had, all the hard nights and long days spent training you were finally here and you’d be damned if you screwed everything up.
“You won’t, Hotch wouldn’t have hired you if he didn’t think you were good enough, trust me. I think you’ll be amazing.” He told you, flushing slightly at his own words and the soft smile that replaced the frown on your face.
“Thank you Spencer.” You replied softly and before he could respond the rest of the team was calling for the two of you to head to the air strip.
-
On the plane you were properly introduced to everyone as you took a seat next to Spencer, sitting opposite Hotch and Rossi. On the table in front of you Spencer had both a map of the US and a smaller map of Wyoming. You watched his fingers trace invisible lines as his eyebrows knitted together.
You were trying not to stare, really you were, but there was just something about the man that made you want to get to know him.
Thankfully before anyone noticed your eyes glancing at Spencer every few moments, the man himself spoke.
“Guys, if you map out where the five victims were found,” Spencer began, circling three places on the map as he did, “it looks like the victims might have been hiking the continental divide trail.”
“Pretty boy, isn’t that trail like thousands of miles long?” Morgan asked, watching as Spencer nodded, pushing the little map of Wyoming out of the way for a moment and drawing a line down the map of the US.
“This is the continental divide trail, it’s 3,300 miles long and it’s actually quite difficult to hike. These people had to have been exceptionally fit and healthy which further backs up the theory that these were blitz attacks. You can go days without seeing other people when hiking the trail and most hikers have to give up because of lack of supplies or needing urgent medical care from injuries and illnesses they attract. A part of the Wyoming part of the trail includes a 120 mile stretch of desert with water sources few and far between.” Spencer rambled and you couldn’t help the soft smile, though you did try to hide it behind your hand, glancing away from Rossi when you locked eyes with him and he raised an eyebrow at you.
“So we have a serial killer and 3,300 miles of potential hunting grounds?” JJ asked.
“So far he seems to be focusing on Wyoming, which narrows the geographic profile down to…’ Spencer paused as he pulled the Wyoming map closer to him, “550 miles.”
“I hope you all brought your hiking boots.” Rossi said as groans filled the jet.
“Hello my crime fighters.” Garcia’s voice sounded through the speakers. “Hotch, the families of the latest two victims are at the station waiting for you.”
“Thank you Garcia,” Hotch replied before turning to the team. “JJ, I want you to come with me to the station and help interview the families. We also need to get ahead of the media on this before they start glorifying the unsub. Reid, since the geographic profile is mostly established, I want you to take Y/L/N and head to the latest crime scene. Dave and Morgan, the two of you head to the second crime scene.”
You and Spencer both shared a look at the news you were travelling to a crime scene that couldn’t be driven too. Whilst you managed to pass the FBI’s training and fitness tests you weren’t exactly athletically inclined and seeing from the look Spencer was giving you neither was he.
Judging from the chuckles that filled the plane the others had come to the same conclusion that you and Spencer were not going to recover from this trip.
-
You had driven as close to the crime scene as you could get, which was thankfully closer than the one Morgan and Rossi had to go to. It was still a hell of a hike to get to where the unsub had dumped the bodies.
“Ok, ok,” Spencer panted, cheeks flushed from the heat. “Let’s take a break.”
“Please.” You were quick to agree and the two of you sat down heavily on a fallen tree trunk. You had all been warned that you needed supplies, even for a short hike. So you had both been sent out with backpacks filled with water bottles and food. There were other supplies like maps, compasses and first aid kits that you were hoping you wouldn’t have to use. Thankfully you had been paired with the man with the eidetic memory because you couldn’t read a map to save your life.
After the two of you gulped down some water and caught your breath Spencer spoke up.
“Why the BAU?” He asked suddenly, causing you to look up in confusion.
“Sorry?” You replied.
“You said you had wanted to join the BAU for a long time, why?” He asked again, not pushing you when you paused.
It wasn’t a secret what had happened to your family, Spencer could easily find the information out if he wanted to but you wanted to be the one to tell him. It wasn’t a story you liked sharing with people but something about Spencer made you feel…safe.
“When I was a kid there was a serial killer but he was in the next state over and we were from a small town so nobody thought to worry and after a while things went quiet so everyone just assumed he stopped, you know? Anyway, one day I went to my friend’s house, it was summer and I was always out with my friends. I was there for a few hours but I was always home in time for dinner except for this day, I ended up losing track of time and headed home an hour late. When I got home, my momma was there in the kitchen. She was covered in blood and I just screamed. The rest of my family didn’t make it either. When the police came they said the markings were the same as the victims from the next state over.” You told him, not pausing for breath as you rushed through the story. You watched as his expression fell, his sympathy written on his face.
“I’m so sorry.” He told you and you could hear the sincerity in his tone. You gave him a small smile before continuing.
“I could just never understand why. The thing that kept me up at night was that question: why? Why them? Why did he come here? Why wasn’t I home? Why did I deserve to live? I started researching and somehow came across an article about the BAU, from there I knew I wanted to work there.”
“Most people wouldn’t be able to come back from something like that, especially at such a young age.” Spencer said, causing you to glance over at him. “They’d be so proud of you.”
You couldn’t help but let out what sounded like a chuckle and a sob at those words, causing Spencer’s eyes to widen in fear he had upset you further but then you smile brightly and he couldn’t help but smile back.
“I like to think so.” You said softly. “You ready to continue?” You asked, chuckling as he groaned before standing up.
“I hate Hotch.” Was the grumbled response and the laugh he received in return made every sore bone and the aching feet worth it.
-
“We know that this unsub is a physically fit white male in his mid to late thirties.” Hotch began.
“Looking at the geographical pattern it’s safe to assume that he too is hiking the Continental Divide Trail in search of victims who are isolated from the rest of civilization. He also has no problems taking down two victims.” Spencer continued.
“The period in between kills is lessening so we should expect to find another body soon, have as many officers as possible on the rest of the trail.” You picked up.
“Considering the last kill was two days ago, the average person could walk up to 30 miles a day on normal terrain but we have to consider that the terrain out there is harsh so lets say he walks 20 miles a day that gives up a 40 mile radius he could be in. He is guaranteed to stay on the continental divide trail so stop every male you see.” Spencer told the LEO’s and after some more information was shared everyone headed off in different directions, the BAU members heading into the room they had been given to work in.
“Y/N,” Hotch said, causing everyone to look over at you.
“Yes sir?” You asked, looking up from your laptop.
“You’re probably the most skilled undercover agent in this room,” He said, causing your cheeks to flush and Spencer couldn’t help but smile. “I know this isn’t exactly the type of case you’d usually be assigned but perhaps if we send you out there we have a better chance of catching him. This man is impulsive, if he sees you he won’t be able to control himself.” Hotch explained, ignoring the questioning looks he was getting from most of the team.
You, however, relaxed, thankful that you hadn’t done something wrong. Undercover work was easy, you were comfortable with it, you knew you were good at it. Obviously you weren’t as confident at this part of the job yet, how could you be on your first case, but undercover work? That was your area of expertise.
“Of course sir.” You agreed easily before remembering how fun the small hike to the last crime scene was…your body would not thank you for signing up for a much longer hike.
“Hotch, are you sure that’s a good idea?” Morgan spoke up causing you to frown. Sure they didn’t know you yet but surely your record spoke for itself. “No offence to you,” he said quickly as he turned to you, “it’s just-“
But before he could finish Hotch cut him off, “I have full faith in Y/L/N’s abilities.”
You couldn’t help feeling a swell of pride at Hotch’s words, a man who you looked up to, a man who barely knew you but was trusting you with so much already. You locked eyes with Spencer who smiled at you reassuringly.
“I’m not doubting the kid’s abilities,” Morgan continued, missing the way you rolled your eyes at being called a kid. “I’m just saying maybe don’t send her in on her own on her first case.”
“I’ll go with her.” Spencer spoke up before Hotch could argue back.
Your eyes widened at Spencer’s offer, he did just as well as you did on your first outing and now he was offering to put himself through hours more of that for what?
“Are you ok with that, Y/N?” Hotch asked you.
You didn’t even hesitate to nod, more than happy for the opportunity to spend time with Spencer Reid.
-
“We’ll be close by the whole time,” Hotch told you as he passed you your backpack filled with supplies, “the second we hear something, we’ll be there.” He assured you and you couldn’t help but smile at his concern.
“I’ll be fine, sir. This is actually the part of the job I’m good at.” You laughed, watching as his lip twitched upwards.
“You’ve been a great help in coming up with a profile too.” He assured you and before you could say anything the rest of the team was flooding in.
The plan for you and Spencer to hike up to a specific spot that Spencer had managed to pinpoint the unsub at and set up camp there. From there you would wait and hope for the unsub to appear. The man was impulsive and his need to kill would be overwhelming by now. The two of you were wired up so that if the unsub appeared the rest of the team could step in and help with the arrest.
You and Spencer were dropped off half an hour away from your campsite just so that if the unsub was around he wouldn’t suspect anything.
The walk was mostly silent, both you and Spencer focusing on not breaking an ankle on the uneven terrain when Spencer finally spoke up.
“Morgan didn’t mean anything insulting.” He told you, causing you to pause before shrugging your shoulders and continuing. When you stayed silent Spencer continued, “he’s just protective but sometimes he isn’t really good at showing it and it comes across…”
“It comes across like he thinks I can’t do my job despite this being my forte.” You finished with a huff before sighing. “I’m sorry, I just…you can’t imagine how many times a male colleague has said I can’t do something and then a supervisor has agreed, you don’t understand how hard I have to fight to be given assignments and not have somebody constantly berating me.” You ranted.
“People look at me like I’m a child. When I first joined the BAU nobody would take me seriously, without Gideon I don’t know what would have happened.” Spencer told you quietly, causing you to frown.
“So you can understand why it’s so frustrating that someone who doesn’t know me didn’t even want to give me a chance.” You replied, causing him to nod sadly. ‘I know he probably didn’t mean anything but…”
“You’ve heard that your entire career.” Spencer finished.
“Hotch was the first person to give me a chance without any hesitation.” You told him softly, watching as he smiled at that. “This should be close enough.” You said as you looked around, the place looked similar to the image Spencer had shown the team.
“Please tell me you know how to put a tent up.” You said, watching as his face twisted.
“I know the theory?” The way his response sounded like a question made you smile as you pulled poles and material out of a bag. The two of you staring down at the mess with matching expressions of confusion.
“Now would be a really good time for the unsub to attack.” He muttered, causing you to laugh loudly. Spencer couldn’t help but grin over at you, your cheeks flushing as you caught the expression.
It took longer than either you or Spencer were willing to admit to put the tent up, despite the fact that it wouldn’t get used, you had to make it look like the pair of you were really camping. There was a lot of grumbling, many curse words and a cut or two.
There was also a lot of laughter coming from the comms in your ears causing both you and Spencer to roll your eyes.
Once the tent was up, Spencer lay a blanket down outside of it and sat down, gesturing for you to do the same. Miraculously the two of you got a fire started and as the sun set and the night time air chilled you were thankful for it.
“I don’t camp but I guess I can see the appeal.” Spencer told you as he titled his head back to look up at the stars. You glanced up too, the sky wasn’t totally black yet, more of an inky blue colour and you could see every star on the cloudless night.
It was beautiful and yet you still found your gaze falling back on Spencer.
“Yeah, me too.” You replied softly, your voice quiet so as not to break the peacefulness around you.
Somehow the two of you ended up laying down and looking up at the sky, you had a smile on your face that refused to move as Spencer’s hushed voice told you facts about stars.
“I’m glad you’re on the team.” Spencer whispered after a long pause of silence. It took you a moment to register his words before you turned your head, coming face to face with the man.
“Me too.” You whispered back, meaning the words with your entire being.
Just as Spencer went to say something you heard a rustle in the bushes and locked eyes with Spencer who nodded.
The two of you waited, not waiting to disrupt the operation if it just turned out to be an animal, but as you pushed yourself up on your elbow and discreetly looked around you saw a faint outline of a man. He was hidden behind a tree but he was watching the two of you.
“The hike up here was exactly what we needed.” You told Spencer and through the comms you heard the team moving out.
“You’re right.” He played along, smiling up at you from his reclined position.
Before you knew what was happening Spencer had his gun out and the unsub grabbed you, placing you in front of him as a human shield. If someone asked you, you would never have been able to recall the events that led to you having a knife held to your neck.
You saw the panicked look in Spencer’s eyes but you couldn’t hear his thoughts, they were overwhelming. Thoughts of Maeve passed through his mind as he pleaded with anyone who would listen to let you be ok, he couldn’t lose you too. Hell, he’d only known you a few days and yet he knew you were special, he knew he had to have you in his life. If you died now…
“Just let her go.” Spencer said, keeping his gun trained on the man.
“I let her go, you ship me off to death row.” The man responded, his face close to your face, too close. The smell of his breath had you grimacing.
“I’ll make you a deal,” Spencer responded, not even thinking. He just needed to get you away.
“Spenc, what you doing kid?” He heard Morgan through his ear piece but he just shook his head before shooting you a reassuring smile, trying not to focus on the tears in your eyes or the blood on your neck.
“I’m listenin’.” The unsub replied after a moment of silence, gesturing for Spencer to continue.
“Let her go,” He said, lowering his gun, “I won’t arrest you. You can get a head start before anyone else gets here. Just let her go.” Spencer pleaded.
It was a tense few seconds in which Spencer never took his eyes off you, he hated to see that scared look in your eyes, the fear in them made Spencer ache.
“Let her go.” Spencer said once more and he let out a sigh of relief as you were pushed into his arms.
Just as the unsub ran to leave, you twisted around in Spencer’s arms and drew your own gun, shooting the unsub in the leg. The rest of the team ran in just as the man fell to the ground.
Spencer turned you around so that you were facing him, his hands on your shoulders.
“Are you ok?” He asked, Morgan and Hotch walking over whilst Rossi and JJ dealt with the man.
You didn’t respond with words, instead you wrapped your arms around Spencer. He didn’t hesitate to wrap his own around you, holding you close as you let the tears slid down your face.
You pulled away abruptly, rubbing your eyes as you did.
“Sorry, you don’t like to be touched and here I am-“ You said but Spencer just cut you off.
“It’s fine, really.” He assured you before his attention turned to your neck. The knife hadn’t pierced the skin too badly, there was a small bit of blood where the knife had nicked you when the unsub pressed a bit too hard.
“Are you ok?” He asked again, fingers on your jaw so that he could tilt your face and get a better look.
“Spencer, I’m fine.” You assured him but that didn’t stop him from getting you medical attention the moment you were back in the town.
Spencer watched as you squirmed away from the nurse seeing to you with a soft smile.
There was something about you that made him feel so free, like he could be himself and the thought of losing you…he didn’t want to think about it again.
“You like her.” Derek said as he came to stand next to the younger man.
“That’s ridiculous, I’ve known her for a few days.” Spencer shot back but he knew his friend was right.
“If she’s the right girl, a few days is all you need.” Was Derek’s reply before he walked away, leaving Spencer looking at you with a thoughtful look on his face.
-
The plane ride home was uneventful.
You took the seat next to Spencer again and watched him pull a book out. You couldn’t help but glance down at it, your eyebrows knitting together in confusion as you didn’t recognise the language.
“It’s Russian.” He told you quietly, not wanting to disturb anyone as they settled in for a long flight.
“You read Russian?” You asked just as quietly, watching as he smiled bashfully and shrugged before nodding. You glanced down at the pages again before letting out a small yawn. “Can you read to me?” You asked him, smiling as he nodded again.
“Of course,” He said and with that it wasn’t long before you fell asleep to the soothing sound of Spencer Reid.
-
“Ask her, man.” Morgan said as both he and Spencer watched you leave the office after finishing your paperwork. Spencer too was done and Morgan assured him he’d make sure Hotch received it.
There was only a brief moment of hesitation before Spencer snatched his satchel up and ran to the elevators, getting there just before they shut on you.
“Hey.” He greeted as he stepped in.
“Hi.” You smiled, brushing a piece of hair out of your face.
“I was wondering, I mean if you wanted to, of course you don’t have to, I was only suggesting but I’d really like it if you would,” Spencer rambled before cutting himself out with a groaning causing you to giggle.
“Are you asking me out?” You asked, cheeks flushing as you asked.
“I’m trying to,” he told you, “but I’m not very good at this.”
“Just ask.” You told him softly.
“Would you like to go out with me?” He asked after taking a deep and calming breath.
“I’d love to.” You grinned, thankful that the man had made a move. You wouldn’t have risked asking him on the chance that you were reading him wrong and he didn’t like you but thankfully he had taken it into his own hands.
“Good. Great. That, that’s great.” He repeated, a soft grin spreading across his face causing you to giggle as the doors opened.
The two of you walked out together and there was a moment of awkward silence before Spencer dipped his head down to kiss your cheek, making your blush even more prominent.
You looked so pretty when you blushed, Spencer thought.
“I’ll call you.” He promised.
“I hope so.” You replied before heading towards your car, when you turned around you saw Spencer still stood by the doors with a smile still on his face. You giggled to yourself but couldn’t stop smiling yourself if you tried.
Spencer Reid was something else and you couldn’t wait to learn everything about that wonderful man.
