GOOD NEWS MEGAPOST
Asmallorb coming at you with this collection of good news sources, please share on your page or link to someone who could use a boost.  This is a post I have been meaning to make and it's about time. I wanted to make a megapost of all the good news sources I have subscribed to so I could share it with others.
Let's break down all the reasons why you should keep up with good news:
It’s good to balance your world view (It’s not bad all the time out there).
The greedy/ manipulative love to exploit hopelessness.
Hearing good news is obviously good for mental health.
The more people know about progress being made in the world, the more attention can be drawn to them and the more these projects can be supported.
- https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/ I can highly recommend signing up to their newsletter via email. It’s a must have to palette cleanse from all the trash, ads and bills. - https://www.tiktok.com/@sambentley?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc Sam Bently is a must if you use Tiktok.  https://www.tiktok.com/@thehappybroadcast is also essential for Tiktok users.  -
If you’re a Reddit user, first of all I’m terribly sorry, second - here’s some much needed positivity on your feed: https://www.reddit.com/r/UpliftingNews/
https://www.reddit.com/r/GoodNewsInBadTimes/
https://www.reddit.com/r/goodnews/
A special shout out goes to https://www.reddit.com/r/OptimistsUnite/, simply because the aggressively positive language amuses me.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Eyebleach/ Is a must for just general good vibes.  _ https://goodable.co/ Goodable is a phone app that reports good news from around the world. There is a premium option but it’s hardly necessary. - If you wish to add to the list leave a comment. As always, if something is too good to be true, it’s always best to do your own research.

when i followed you i actually thought you were a gimmick account that would only post positive news reports and things going well in the world
but anyway if i were to do a spring cleaning of my following list with the Marie Kondo "does it spark joy" approach, you would be safe and sound in a blanket of happiness
I did used to share @thehappybroadcast Instagram Sunday round ups but then they got their own tumblr!
I do make a conscious effort to seek out what I think are Good Things and it turns out it's often everyday ordinary little bits of love in all its glory
This blog definitely sparks joy for me, I'm glad it does for you too

A recently released study finally tests the idea that women heads of state (Germany, New Zealand, Taiwan, Iceland…) have excelled at handling the coronavirus crisis. The research, conducted by two economists at UK universities, suggests this phenomenon is more than just anecdote. In an effort to isolate the specific effect of having a female leader, they compared female-led countries to male-led countries that are similar in population, geography, gender equality, health expenditures, and number of tourists. No matter how they sliced the data, female-led countries fared better. Experts claim that female leaders are humble, that they welcome diverse viewpoints, that they’re less constrained by traditional trappings of leadership, that they are more accepting of science, and more hands-on. The success of these and other women-led governments in dealing with a global pandemic is all the more noteworthy, given that women make up less than 7% of world leaders. It is long past time for us to recognize that the world is in dire need of more women leaders and equal representation of women at all levels of politics. Reposted from @the_happy_broadcast You can’t erase your past. But, sometimes, you can cover it up. Ryun King and Jeremiah Swift, artists at the Gallery X Art Collective tattoo parlor in Murray, Kentucky, recently announced that they would ink over any racist tattoo free of charge — as a show of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and protests against police brutality. King said the response has been immeasurable, overwhelming and positive. Since posting the offer on Facebook, the tattoo parlor has already received hundreds of requests and calls from the community — even from people out of state. And they're not the only ones with the idea. Many other tattoo artist in the US and Canada are also removing racist tattoos for free after they saw other artist on social media share the idea. 👏👏👏 #Repost @the_happy_broadcast with @get_repost ・・・ Mary W. In 2019, she was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal,” NASA said in a news release.⁣ ⁣ “Mary W. Jackson was part of a group of very important women who helped NASA succeed in getting American astronauts into space. Mary never accepted the status quo, she helped break barriers and open opportunities for African Americans and women in the field of engineering and technology,” said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine. The Ashaninka indigenous community in Brazil has won a two-decade federal court dispute against illegal logging interests, receiving $3 million in compensation and an official apology from companies for cutting down thousands of mahogany, cedar, and other tree species in the Kampa do Rio Amônia Indigenous Reserve. Starting in the early 1980s, timber companies owned by the Cameli family illegally harvested mature trees from the Ashaninka’s ancestral land to supply the European furniture industry. The $3 million reparation will go directly toward projects protecting the Ashaninka community and Amazon forest. Experts said the case could serve as a legal precedent in other indigenous and environmental lawsuits in Brazil. Sunshine in the darkness. The Earth is using this time to heal from overuse and neglect. We should do the same. #Repost @the_happy_broadcast @mcttravel ・・・ Thanks to the isolation that has been produced to avoid more contagions from the COVID – 19 coronavirus, some animals have taken advantage of walking the streets, swimming where they did not do it before or returning to certain areas. An example of this is the massive arrival of thousands of sea turtles to empty beaches in India, according to reports from local media and social networks. The absence of these turtles were observed in 2002, 2007, 2016 and last year too but this spring was the first in seven years that the mass nesting of the species took place at broad daylight.

Without tourists on the beaches, human interference at the nesting site decreased and experts and authorities estimate that the turtles laid around 60 million eggs in the sands of these Indian beaches. Using public transport is often a greener alternative to driving a car, and now one company is taking its green ambitions a step further -- by developing a pollution-sucking fleet of buses. An air-filtering bus which removes pollutants from city streets while it operates is to be rolled out into six regions of the UK following a successful trial (the bus removed approximately 65g of pollutants from the air and cleaned 3.2 million cubic metres of the city’s air.) .⁣ ⁣ The Bluestar buses will be fitted with a three-filter rooftop filtration system that sucks dirt and ultra-fine harmful particles out of the air. In parallel, Bluestar has been fitting solar panels to buses to make the air filter completely self-sufficient. The Esselen Tribe of Monterey County, a historic Native American tribe made up of Indigenous Hokan speaking People, inhabited land across the Big Sur coast of California for more than 6,000 years — until several centuries ago, when Spanish colonizers seized their territory. Now, after 250 landless years, the small Native American tribe is finally getting some justice, as they have just regained ownership of their land. The purchase was made possible by Western Rivers Conservancy (WRC), a group that works to conserve western U.S. rivers and land. The group partnered with the Esselen Tribe, and got the California Natural Resources Agency to purchase 1,199 acres of land for the tribe in a splashy $4.5 million deal. “It is beyond words for us, the highest honor,” the Esselen Tribe’s chairman Tom Little Bear Nason told reporters, according to The New York Times. “The land is the most important thing to us. It is our homeland, the creation story of our lives. We are so elated and grateful.” Source: Green Matters https://www.greenmatters.com/p/esselen-native-american-tribe-lando

Reposted from @the_happy_broadcast China has upgraded the national protection status of its native pangolin species, in particular the Chinese Pangolin Manis pentadactyla, to Class I, the highest form of protection under national legislation. As many as 200,000 pangolins are consumed each year in Asia for their scales and meat and more than 130 tonnes of scales, live and dead animals were seized in cross-border trafficking busts last year, a figure estimated to represent up to 400,000 animals, according to conservation group WildAid. The Chinese Pangolin is considered Critically Endangered by the IUCN, primarily threatened by indiscriminate hunting and poaching, mainly driven by demand for its meat and scales, the latter used in “traditional medicine” in China. “We highly applaud this announcement, made in recognition of the need to protect critically endangered pangolins,” Steve Blake, chief representative of WildAid in Beijing, told the Guardian. Therapy in the Netherlands:
-go lie in a grave and think about death
-cuddle a fucking cow
[Image description: the first pucture is a screenshot of a newssite, with a picture of an open grave, with cushions and a text, saying "stay weird". The headline of the newsarticle reads "school digs grave for students to lie in and 'think about death'". The first block of text is also visible, and reads: "university is supposed to be a time of fun, excitement, wonder and ocasionally drinking a little bit too much from time to time. So, it's no wonder that one school in the Netherlands embraced this by digging their students a grave!"
The second picture is a screenshot from an instagram post by @thehappybroadcast, with a drawing of a black and white cow, with a green background. A light-skinned person is laying on the cow and cuddling it. There's also text on the picture, reading "cow hugging is a new trend to boost mental health form the Netherlands. Cuddling cows can reduce stress and induce joy (in the cows too)! End ID]
