why are gifts so fucking difficult oh my godd. starting to look for anniversary gifts for my partner cause weve got about two months to go, and i swear to god anytime theres a holiday where we have to give gifts i panic.

its so difficult cause in theory i know what she likes but i dont feel like we spend enough time around each other to know what style of things she likes yknow? ill send her stuff occasionally that i like and i feel like she has a really good grasp on the things i enjoy cause i have such a distinct style. for her though like i know for a fact that she doesnt dress in the way she wants to, but if she was given the chance i dont know what she would choose to wear. like what she wears now is different than what she would wear if she had the choice to redo and choose her own wardrobe (her words). so like. i always freak out when buying jewelry and stuff like that cause i dont know if its a thing that she would like or not based on how weird that situation is right now.

#for valentines she got me a little gold necklace with two small pendants that have our initials stamped on them :((( its so fucking cute l #and i wanna do something like that for her!! but not the same thing yknow?#one of my ideas was a little gold locket with us inside or maybe the eye portrait situation cause that would be cool #but do i think thats cool for me or do i think its cool for her? i have no idea #my other idea was getting a replacement ring of the rings we got a few years ago #they were small bands thay had the other persons birth flower on them (got those before we even started dating lmaoooo)#and hers doesnt fit anymore #or another idea was that i found this little crochet pattern for a small crochet cat with a knitted sweater #and i was thinkin i could make crochet cat versions of her and i with little sweaters to match!! so that would be really cute i think #or like. if i started now i could crochet a blanket cause she really loves cozy things but like #our anniversary is in june and also shes really picky with textures so i might not do that even though i wanna #do you see my problem here #its a clusterfuck honestly #thats why im starting the search so early #my last idea was to make her a custom crosstitch pattern of her favorite ancient art (its a goat tattoo)#to put it simply she really loves history and i think she would enjoy that #anyway. i am freaking the fuck out ❤️

Suit | Hobie Brown

Y/N sees Hobie in a suit for the first time. It goes... well.

It had taken me at least 20 minutes to assemble the perfect jewelry set to go with my dress. Admittedly, the dress itself was boring. A deep maroon, with billowy sleeves and a tight bodice. Since the dress was so simple, I felt the need to adorn myself in gold jewelry. Earrings up and down both ears, multiple necklaces of varying lengths and textures, bracelets that clanged together in a satisfying way as I moved, and a gold hoop through my septum that was delicate and only noticeable up close.

"Perfect," I whispered, stepping away from the mirror to admire my appearance. It had been a while since I'd gotten so dressed up. My free time was either spent on the couch out in the living room, exercising (which I hated, but had a life-long compulsion to do), or doing whatever Hobie wanted to do.

Tonight was a first for us both. First wedding together. First formal event. First time Hobie was meeting my family.

"Well?" I heard Hobie say from behind me. He appeared in the doorway, and I could see him in the mirror before me.

My jaw fell to my lap.

Hobie, usually dressed in tight jeans, ripped t-shirts and studded jackets, looked entirely unlike himself.

He wore a suit - an honest to god suit - dark blue with silver trim. Underneath, he wore a gray, knitted vest over a white button up shirt. Everything was perfectly tailored to suit him, courtesy of my parents. The pants hung perfectly above a pair of gray dress shoes that I knew were pinching his toes. His shoulders looked broad and strong, his waist tantalizingly thin, and I stood up to get a good look.

"Wow," I replied in a whisper. The clean, sharp suit was in a delicious contrast with his facial piercings, and the tattoos creeping up over the collar of the freshly pressed white shirt.

He spun around, arms out to his side. "Well?" he asked again.

I glanced down at the watch dangling on my wrist. 11:30. We didn't need to be there until 1, which meant we had a little time before we needed to get in a cab.

"I don't think I can wait until after to fuck you," I replied, and Hobie's pierced eyebrows raised towards his hairline.

"That so?" he asked, already charging towards me. "Don't wanna mess up the suit."

"We'll be quick," I replied, meeting him in the middle of a room for a kiss that guaranteed I would need to re-apply my make up before leaving.

We weren't as quick as we thought we would be, but by 12:15, we were in a cab and only set to be a minute or two late. I buttoned the top button on Hobie's shirt and he smirked down at me.

"Should I wear a suit more often?" he asked.

Flashes of passionate kisses, Hobie ripping my underwear off, entering me without either of us taking any other clothes off, flashed across eyes, and I clenched my thighs together, well aware a cab driver was listening to us.

"I'm worried you'll attract too much attention," I replied with a teasing smile.

He put two fingers under my chin, and tilted my head up to his. He pressed a gentle kiss on my freshly lined lips, and one on my powdered nose.

"Yours is the only attention I want."

Whimsigothic Accessories

The right accessories can make any outfit into something completely new, and that is especially true with the whimsigothic aesthetic. Here are some ideas if you feel like you're missing something!

TIGHTS! the lace pattern ones are super cute, there are quite a few tattoo-inspired ones that are really cool, and you can never go wrong with a good pair of classic black pantyhose

socks are also great! look for jewel tone socks, or ones with fun pattern (especially with cellestial themes). also, socks with frills on the top are so cute with chunky shoes and work to balance them out nicely

try giving leg and arm warmers a shot, i especially like how the cable-knit ones look

speaking of shoes, platform mary-jane shoes are a staple of the whimsigothic aesthetic and are always a great choice. oxford doc martens are also a classic that go great with everything. platform sandals are a classic from the 90s and pointy victorian-style boots are a great nod to the craft

the crossbody sling bags fit in nicely with a lot of the patterns whimsigothic leans into, and a nice leather messenger bag always looks amazing! i really do suggest starting to carry some kind of bag if you never have, it makes things so much easier

also, if you don't have a claw clip i'd highly suggest getting one. there are so many hairstyles you can use them for and they're very inexpensive.

jewelry: cameo everything, signet rings, rosary-inspired necklaces, as many lockets as possible, and those necklaces where you can change out the crystals in them. bangle bracelets are always lovely, and don't be afraid to mix and match them

scarves! little headscarves are always great whether they're s small bandana, crocheted, or are much larger with a beautiful design on them and they're really pretty as part of your hairstyle

“I want to go blond.”

Looking up from your phone, you see Ace standing in front of you in his usual getup: house slippers, black shorts, and shirtless. He has his red-beaded necklace around his neck and his arm and back tattoos decorate his toned muscles. His black wavy locks are tousled, his fingers messing them even more.

You don’t know what to say to this.

“Go blond then,” you tell him, eyes going back down on your phone but your ears are attentive nonetheless. Ace takes this as a sign of approval and encouragement, and he grins widely for the whole world to see his joy, that his significant other finally approved of him bleaching his virgin hair.

“Babe, you’re letting me?” he asks to make sure. You look up from your smartphone again and slowly nod. His face brightens.

“I don’t see why I wouldn’t,” you say. Really, you don’t. Ace is his own person and he can make decisions for himself, and not once have you ever discussed or prohibited him from doing things to his hair. You did tell him once that you loved his black look, but that was back in freshman year when you were still testing the waters with each other. “You’re as free as a bird. Do whatever you want with it.”

“Yes!” As if winning the lottery, Ace groans victoriously and you become even more confused. “So I can do whatever I want and you won’t get mad, is that it?”

You nod once more, this time with knitted eyebrows. “Yes . . . ? Why wouldn’t I let you dye or bleach your hair?”

He shrugs. “Because you like my black hair and you play with it all the time,” he reasons and goes back to combing his locks with his fingers. “You said you loved it naturally . . . don’t you like it anymore?”

You shake your head.

“That’s ridiculous, babe. I like your hair more than I like mine but I’m not restricting you with what you do with your own body,” you say. “Um, well, unless you want to shave all of it and go bald, I don’t think that would really—”

“Work out, yeah,” he finishes for you, eyes rolling to the back of his head and almost laughing. “No problemo, I won’t go bald. Just bleach. Just blond, like Sabo’s. That okay?”

With this one last question, Ace flops on the space beside you on the couch and snuggles himself into your warmth. Automatically, you drop your phone on your belly and wrap your arms around him, one of your hands finding itself on his head to rake his hair yourself. Ace hums in content.

“Of course it’s okay,” you say. He smiles warmly. “So do you, like, need help with it or what? Haven’t bleached your hair yourself right? Zero experience.”

“I’m a virgin,” he says out of nowhere and you mentally face-palm. “I’m a virgin hair-dyer.”

“I don’t think that’s a word,” you comment.

“And I have virgin hair,” he ignores your remark and finishes his sentence. With a wide tight-lipped smile, Ace stands back up and runs to his room. But before doing so, he tells you that he’ll be back in half an hour with the necessary materials.

You’re scrolling through Instagram when Ace storms into your apartment with a paper bag of bleach, its complementary equipment, and random things he bought along the way. He puts the bag down on the kitchen island and unpacks the food he bought and dashes to the bathroom with the rest of the bag’s contents in hand.

You leave your phone on the couch as you follow Ace into the bathroom, wondering what he’s up to next. As expected, he’s neatly laying down the equipment he bought and proudly looks at them and you back and forth.

“Ta-da,” he sings, discarding the paper bag in the process. You laugh. “I have everything here, from the bleach, photo samples for reference, that bowl and brush thing you use for the dye? Then I also have that thing that you wrap around your neck like a bib.”

You nod in amusement. “You really got the whole package.”

“Of course I did. If I’m saying goodbye to my natural color then I should have all the tools like a pro.” He puts his hands on his hips and stares at you in the mirror. “What do you think?”

“I think we should get started,” you say, putting both of your hands on his shoulders. You bring a chair from the kitchen and heave it to the bathroom in front of the sink and mirror and order Ace to sit. He follows obediently, and stares at his black hair for probably the last time.

You ready the developer and bleaching powder he prepared and feel excitement build up inside of you. Right, you’re realizing that Ace is changing his appearance at the moment. In the last three years you’ve been with him, Ace hasn’t dared to change the way he puts and organizes himself because most of the accessories he dons symbolize something important to him, or are tributes to special memories and people he keeps close to his heart. His black hair is reminiscent of his father, and changing its hue is like swiping him of a memory.

Nonetheless, Ace is excited because he heard once that his mother had blond wavy shoulder-length blond hair, with almost the same waviness as his current one. To have him look more like his mother is a relief, somehow. It’s as if she never passed.

After mixing the powder with the developer, you thoroughly comb his hair with a hairbrush then gradually apply the bleach on his head. Ace internally screams with his mouth hung open. On the first contact of the brush with his head, he gasps.

“That’s cold,” he says. You apply more of it on his hair. “Oh fuck, that’s weird. Can’t believe I’m doing this.”

You empty the bowl of bleach until Ace’s head is fully covered. By the end of the application, parts of his hair are starting to lift.

You put a shower cap on his head to wait for the bleach to settle. For the meantime, he munches down on the sour cream chips he bought earlier as he observes his locks slowly lifting.

Once 40 minutes have passed, you bring Ace back to the bathroom to rinse the bleach off and put shampoo in. You end it with one final rinse after a 30-minute wait on applying toner.

Ace lets his hair dry with a hair blower and you go back to work on his head once done. Taking products from your own drawer, you style your boyfriend’s hair to perfection until he’s satisfied with the appearance.

You take your hand mirror and show Ace the back of his now blond head, awaiting for his reply. He smiles brightly at the mirror and plays with his hair.

“This is the best that I can do. Can’t give you a haircut, sorry,” you tell him.

“No, this is already really great,” he reassures, still playing and moving his head around to see all the other angles. “Goddamn, you did it justice. Be my hairdresser baby, you’re good at this.”

“I’ll be your hairdresser if I miraculously do this good again,” you say. You comb his hair with your fingers and he shivers. “Blond looks so good on you, what the hell?”

“I think it’s time to brag about it on the Internet,” he says as he reaches for his phone and quickly snaps a couple of mirror shots of his new hair. “You won’t mind, would you?”

“Not at all,” you say. As Ace takes pictures of his new look, you go on cleaning duty and tidy the sink and counter after the bleaching mess.

Ace wasn’t lying when he said he was going to brag about your wonderful work on his hair, because hours later, Sabo (his second brother) was ranting about how his naturally blond hair is being outshone while Luffy (the youngest) is deciding whether or not he should match the two.

Chaotic Academia for Broke Academics (AKA me)

As someone who wholeheartedly loves chaotic academia and its acceptance of messiness and peculiarity, but is sadly too broke to afford the style and too busy to do many of the things / extracurriculars I enjoy, I have accumulated a list of ways to enjoy the little subculture that has become academia without breaking your brain or bank :)

Look The Part / Decorations:

Collect pens, pencils, sharpies, and other school supplies from just about anywhere. Stack them in your desk drawers, inside little pots on your desk, or piled randomly in your backpack and pockets. If the pens and sharpies are all various colors that helps too. Annotate shit in pretty pink ink if you want!

Put pins on whatever bag you use for school. Loop cute keychains on it too if possible. Hot Topic, Spencers, and Etsy are good places for cheap-ish pins with witty sayings or dark humor. Put stickers on your computer / tablet / phone case. Same idea: dark, funny, witty, maybe puns.

Write and doodle on yourself. Put notes on your wrist, stars on your fingers, pretty words on your knee. This also helps if you can’t afford tattoos yet!

Stick stupid things to your walls. I have a mobile order receipt on my dorm wall from when my order number was 666. I used to cut off my name from Starbucks cups when the barista put a smiley face or a doodle and tape those to my wall.

Collect strange things and put them where you’ll see them. I collect Monster cans and Soda cans and stack them everywhere on my desk!

Get a simple ring, a simple chain necklace, or a simple bracelet. Wear it with everything. Rub it for comfort or when fidgeting so it shows wear and love.

Invest in a cute reusable water bottle, temperature controlled. Put stickers on it. Keep coffee, soda, juice, tea, or even water in it. Carry it everywhere. You look environmentally friendly and you can hit people with it if they give you trouble.

Go thrifting / antiquing. Look for clothes you like, obviously, but finding things with wear on them already gives a nice “messily put-together” look. Blacks, browns, beige, off-white, dark greens, and dark blues are all nice! Look for leather jackets, trench coats, hoodies, knitted sweaters, and cargo pants—all things that would probably be more expensive elsewhere. (I bought my trench coat for $5 at a yard sale and it turned out to be from Sach’s Fifth Avenue!)

Black jeans are your friend!

Black fingerless gloves are good for winter and just compliment most outfits.

Wear hoodies! Chaotic academia is about the messy side of academics, so look the part in a comfy hoodie! Pair with a chain necklace if you need something more put-together.

Paint your nails whatever color you want, but let it chip, let it be smeared. Get the polish on your hands.

Act The Part:

Keep detailed schedules that aren’t necessarily neat. Mix glitter pens with sharpie, write your assignments in multiple colors that have no reason. If you work best with neat schedules, then have colorfully coordinated lists with matching stickers. Keep a main schedule for classes and assignments, a second schedule for day-to-day micromanaging, and as many more as you need to remind you when to eat, drink, or exercise.

Have a workout routine at least once a week. Whether it’s going to the gym to walk on the treadmill while reading, taking a stroll around campus to jump in leaf piles or snow banks, walking up and down a stairwell while memorizing psychology / astronomy terms, or doing at home workouts in your room, just find something that you like to do to get yourself moving. Join a dance class or outdoor group if your school offers one for free too!

Watch crime shows / listen to crime podcasts. Old lawyer shows are also super fun!

Join some clubs related to the supernatural, film, Shakespeare, literature, or chess.

Watch psychological thriller movies then go watch videos on YouTube analyzing those movies.

Watch documentaries about space, disgusting history, fun conspiracy theories, the apocalypse, natural disasters, and literary theorists.

Read weird shit. Quote it often.

Listen to a wide variety of music! Listen to remixes!

Pirate everything.

Have a dedicated coffee order. Get it when you can. Savor it.

If you can study with music in the background then find classical music playlists, dark cello music, epic orchestral covers of songs, or soundtracks to movies and tv shows you like.

Doodle in your books and textbooks (if possible)

Write down random things you hear and see throughout the day. Save it all and use those things to write a poem or a story when you need inspiration.

Write blackout poetry from gothic novels, cosmic horror stories, textbook pages, classic literature, and mystery novels.

Write dictionary poetry.

Put a quote from a story / poem you love in your email sign-off.
