i have finished reboot & i am sad
it's bittersweet—i mean, it was time to be finished with it; i've been watching it literally over the course of the pandemic. but enough! all things must end, even the arduously dragged-out conclusion of a whacked-out chinese tomb raiding drama featuring poisonous gas, hordes of insects, zombies, hand crabs, flying carnivorous clams, and "coffin dew," which like all the rest of those things does not exist. ruminations and pictures and spoilers behind the cut!
1. so why is this xie yuchen the most boring xie yuchen out of all of them? i don't even know this actor's name because i never bothered learning it. also when the hell did he become a doctor and do sketchy operations on people without anaesthesia? he's wearing pink, he's rich, he has the same name; but there the resemblance ends. this is not the xiao hua we know and love. where is my bitchy swishy opera-singing organized crime boss? no wonder there's no chemistry between him and xiazi; this guy barely has a pulse. sorry to this man. nice sweater, tho.
Tumblr media
2. i was trying to prove that pangzi says "that's not your xiaoge" (which he doesn't, those are bad subtitles; he just says "that's not xiaoge") and instead captured this adorable picture of drunk bai haotian. xiao bai gets a bad rap—mao xiaotong is adorable and sweet and honestly kinda hot when she's not trapped in a bowl haircut and overalls. i appreciate that wu xie, busily dying of lungs, doesn't have time or patience to explain to her why he's not available, but zhu yilong plays it wisely straight down the middle, face impassive. ship it or don't, he seems to be saying; i don't care, it's not up to me anyway—the viewer can read it however they want. (but wu xie does manhandle her on more than one occasion and that's also kinda hot.)
Tumblr media
3. admittedly liu sang is very very pretty but i still don't want him in my pingxie, like mint in my chocolate chip ice cream. no thank you please. i have always considered myself a multishipper, a live-and-let-live fan; but this fandom has taught me i'm monogamous and i guess there's nothing i can do about that. still. look at liu chang's beautiful features. he made me care about jinx beyond just his function as a whump magnet, and that's an achievement. someday maybe his ouxiang will give him the hug he deserves.
Tumblr media
4. speaking of beautiful just look at these total idiots. i'm going to miss their stupid faces. xiaoge drinking water, so he can be sober enough to take his drunk husband home and put him to bed. wu xie so plastered that i have inadvertently captured the one (1) image of the most beautiful man in the world making a derp face.
Tumblr media
BONUS: whatever this beautiful cranky bitchy "doctor" has going on. which definitely involves feelings he still has for wu xie, after what happened in germany. (you know what happened in germany.)
Tumblr media
and that's it, that's a wrap. in the meantime zhu yilong has been in cannes being absolutely heart-stoppingly fucking divine, and i will bet you a hundred flying carnivorous clams that the next time he's there, his film will be in competition. the condé nast cover story didn't hurt. with each entrée he cements his reputation and, more importantly, protects himself from the increasingly nasty sweeps of china "cleaning up" c-ent. i honestly don't know what there is to clean up anymore; there's almost nothing left. immortality and the live-action of tgcf not being released; justice in the dark just abandoned not even halfway through. this doesn't end well.
at least as far as lost tomb goes, though, i've decided i'm proceeding backwards—so next i'm watching sand sea/sha hai, because i want to spend time with mob widow wu xie (qin hao has won me over via gifset) and ji chen's xiazi. until then, pouring one out for li jiale and chuchu. and wu erjing i guess. 干杯!

Lost Tomb Lewks, Part 15: Pangzi Special
(masterpost) (whole series on Ao3)
Tumblr media
Warning: Spoilers for Both Seasons of The Lost Tomb Reboot!
Let’s take a break from Wu Xie’s Lewks to check out some of Pangzi’s best (in OP’s 100% objective assessment) outfits. The Lost Tomb Reboot version of Pangzi avoids tailored looks, preferring a colorful, aggressively casual style that’s a little bit edgy.
Fat Cat
Pangzi’s in-town street wear generally consists of cargo pants, hiking boots, a graphic short-sleeve tee-shirt layered over a long-sleeve tee, a jacket, and jewelry.
Tumblr media
The necklace he’s wearing has some kind of teeth? on it? and is similar to (but not identical to) a necklace he wears in Sha Hai/Tomb of the Sea. His tee shirt features a cat version of himself, basically - a cool chubby cat with sunglasses, a tee shirt, and a necklace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Being happily married to at least one dude doesn’t keep Pangzi from acting like an idiot whenever he’s near an attractive women [OP has this same problem].
Tumblr media
Usually he’s politer about it, being an incurable romantic, but Tattoo Girl is ridiculously hot, so I guess I can understand his “hey girl” reaction.
Pangzi’s outfit is perfect to wear when you’re trying to impress a woman...
Tumblr media
...by pouring hot water over your sexy, sexy boyfriend’s bare chest and back in front of her. Use what you’ve got, right?
(more after the cut!)
Tomb Raider
For grave robbing archaeology adventures, the leather jacket is replaced with a roomy cargo coat with plenty of pockets. The coat is sand camo patterned since they’re going to be under a beach.
Tumblr media
His boots are softer and more beaten-in than Xiao Ge or Wu Xie’s. The other guys boots feature a higher toe box and traditional leather styling, whereas Pangzi’s have a flatter toe and more flexible sole. There are probably names for all of these type of boots. *shrug*
Tumblr media
This is the perfect outfit to wear when you think you are going to a party and everyone else thinks they’re going to a funeral.
Tumblr media
“Hey Tian Zhen, why does Xiao Ge look like he wants to cry? No reason? Whew, glad to hear it!”
Tumblr media
The tee shirt part of this outfit features the eight trigrams symbol, along with dudes doing...(*googles*) Bagua Zhang, aka Eight Trigrams Kung Fu, maybe? That dude in the upper right looks like he’s doing (*googles some more*) the Hawk pose, anyway.
Tumblr media
This is a good look to wear when you are trying to stop your husband from adding another twink to his collection.
Layered Looks
The layered outfits that Pangzi and many other characters wear for their adventures are a good costuming choice for a show like this. When a character is going to be in a tomb for several episodes, that means they’re in the same outfit for a really long time.
Tumblr media
Being able to take off layers as they go means that they can keep the visuals from becoming static. Once the coat comes off, we can see the long-sleeve tee shirt that Pangzi’s got on under his yellow short-sleeve tee.
Tumblr media
If they stay in the tomb long enough, everyone will get down to their underwear, presumably. They get rescued before that happens, alas.
Comfy Time
At home, Pangzi sticks with the layered tee shirts, but trades out the boots and cargo pants for flip flops and colorful shalwar trousers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pangzi is always dressed comfortably when he’s at home, and it’s at home that he is most free to be himself and focus on what’s most important to him.
Home Cooking
What’s most important to him is taking care of Wu Xie, which is part of why this whole “immanent death” situation is particularly unacceptable to him.
Tumblr media
Here he is with Wu Xie in their shared one-bedroom one-bed apartment, cooking a meal in an outfit that plays with gender norms a little bit.
Tumblr media
Most of the outfit is traditionally masculine, and possibly the pink color is, too--I don’t know how (or if) color choices map to gender in China. But I’m fairly confident that the Hello Kitty with the big bow and the big pink flowers on his apron are not meant to convey masculinity. Given that Pangzi’s physical form is a perfect example of a beefy tough guy, these clothing choices create some nice layers in his character.
Tumblr media
A different pink shirt features children’s cartoon character Peppa Pig and a gun, for another mix of sweet and tough. (*googles*) WOW apparently Peppa Pig was banned in China for a while because of association with anti-establishment subculture and gangster values. There’s a whole meme situation with Peppa Pig that I have missed out on until...today. If you want Pangzi’s tee shirt, google “Peppa Pig Society.” The ban was announced in 2018 so presumably it’s been lifted since then, or the costume department for the show has brass balls and/or ovaries.
Mahjong and Corduroy
Tumblr media
The Lost Tomb Reboot keeps us on our toes by having 20 great clothing items in a row and then throwing in something like this appalling 1982-style corduroy-and-velour zipper jacket. Someone who didn’t have to go to high school in the 1980s might find this fabric combo appealingly textural, and might appreciate these hideous rich jewel tones.
Tumblr media
I’m featuring this look because the it includes a gorgeous tee shirt that’s got a big allover pattern of mahjong tiles on it. Pangzi wears it when he makes dinner for Piao Piao.
Tumblr media
This tee shirt is so awesome it slightly lessens my rage about this tropey, predictable storyline featuring yet another disposable woman. The Lost Tomb Reboot features THREE female characters who die or sorta-die (one in flashbacks) so that men can have emotions about their deaths. Xiao Bai survived by being a tomboy, I guess.
Tumblr media
But it’s a great shirt. Pangzi accessorizes it with an apron borrowed from Piao Piao, that is much more subtle than his usual loud colors, and with a tiny ponytail. This is Pangzi getting comfortable enough to just be himself with Piao Piao; a nice domestic scene for them, tropes be damned.
Hello Gandalf
My favorite of Pangzi’s pink shirts is this hoodie, which features Hello Kitty Gandalf--another meme. This is a good outfit to wear when you have pissed off a powerful person in your community to the point that he has you sealed in a box for shipping back to your house.
Tumblr media
I bet this box was really expensive. It looks well made. Nothing but the best for Er Bai, even when it’s just in the service of being a dick.
Tumblr media
Pangzi wears this hoodie with his usual in-town look: cargo pants, boots, jacket.  He accessorizes it with vertical hair and physical comedy.
This is a good look for meeting the newest member of your polycule.
Tumblr media
Hawaiian Shirt of Recrimination
In the Rain Village, Pangzi changes things up a bit by wearing a colorful tropical-patterned shirt over a soft grey shirt with an interesting neckline. The neck is notched at the top, and has buttons and buttonhole tabs, but it doesn’t look like the neckline actually opens--the buttons appear to be purely decorative.
Tumblr media
He wears his pointy necklace and a bunch of chunky beaded bracelets with it, and rounds out the look with a thermos of soup.
Tumblr media
This is a good look for when you’re feeling crushed and worried and angry all at the same time, and you want to use soup to both nourish and punish your partner.
Tumblr media
How dare you be fatally ill and not tell me. Also, how dare you be fatally ill, full stop. In fact, you are not allowed to die, ever. So knock it off.
The Cow Shirt
My favorite Pangzi look is from Tomb of the Sea, even though this post series is ostensibly only about The Lost Tomb Reboot. Chen Minghao is the best Pangzi, so I can cheat a little for him. (Words I will say to my husband, should I ever meet Chen Minghao)
Tumblr media
Tomb of the Sea Pangzi’s looks are a little less casual and a little more fashion-y than Reboot Pangzi’s, featuring button-up shirts and some unusual patterns and tailoring.
This look features a cow-pattern black and white untucked button-up, under a distressed brown leather vest.  He accessorizes the look with a pointy necklace similar to the one he wears in Reboot, chunky bead bracelets, and with fancy flip-flops that he uses to menace baby Xue Yang Su Wan.
Tumblr media
His hair is worn long, with a genuine-looking beard and a moustache.
Tumblr media
He looks amazing.

Hi! I hate to bother you and if you decide to delete this or not answer, no worries at all. Time is a precious commodity. From following your blog, I know you are wise in all thing DMBJ. I was looking at the translations of the novels on Amazon and am considering buying them, but they're described as being books for ages 8+. That surprised me as my only exposure thus far has been Lost Tomb Reboot, which seems aimed at an older audience. Does the 8+ rating sound accurate to you? Are they enjoyable for adults? Thank you!
Oh, nonny, you would go for the complicated question right off the bat.  No worries, though; I’m up for it!  😁  (And you are not at ALL a bother!  I love talking about DMBJ.  Especially the novels.  ^_^)
(Disclaimer: 1) These are my opinions only.  2) If you have the financial ability to support the official translations of any Chinese novel by purchasing them, you definitely should.)
OK, so first thing’s first: I HIGHLY recommend reading the novels.  They cover so much more territory than the dramas alone and will fill in a lot of the blanks that the dramas don’t cover, so if you enjoy the story and the characters, you’ll be getting much MUCH more of them in the novels.
Second thing’s second: The novels are published first online by NPSS, then cleaned up and polished and edited before being published in print.  Some stories (like some of the side stories and extras) were never published in print and probably won’t be.  The basic timeline of the novels goes like this:
Main novel series (books 1-8): takes place when Wu Xie is about 26-28 years old or so.  This is the time period when the Iron Triangle first meet and become who they are together.
Tibetan Sea Flower (Zang Hai Hua): takes place ...5ish or so years after the main novel series.   Xiaoge is absent for... (spoiler) reasons... but his presence is still VERY much felt in the novel.  This is when we get the biggest chunk of his back story to date.  It is also unfinished and ends on a TERRIBLE cliffhanger, but it’s well worth reading anyway.  (There is a drama in production right now to cover this novel and hopefully we’ll get some closure on that.)
Sand Sea (Sha Hai): the first three volumes take place 9ish years post-main novel series, the final volume is a prequel to those.  This is Wu Xie’s revenge/mob widow(er) arc and the first three volumes are told from the POV of a younger character, Li Cu.  This story is ALSO unfinished and ends on a terrible cliffhanger, but from what I understand, the drama did give us some closure (I haven’t watched it yet, so can’t confirm that myself, but it’s what I’ve heard).  There is also a second season of this that is coming down the pike probably after they do ZHH.
Ten Years Later: The story of Wu Xie going to pick up Xiaoge from where he’s been since the main novel series ended and the Iron Triangle deciding to settle down in a little village called Yucun (Rain Village) and retire.
Finally we have Yucun Biji (Notes in Rain Village 1 & 2), Restart 1 & 2 (the novels TLTR is based on) and then two other novels whose names I am utterly blanking on but that come after Reboot.  (Yucun Biji 2 and the two novels after Restart are current works in progress.)
And NUMEROUS SIDE STORIES AND PREQUELS AND EXTRAS INCLUDING QUIRKY LITTLE SHORT STORIES THAT WILL UTTERLY BREAK YOUR HEART INTO PIECES AND ALSO A STORY ABOUT THE ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE AND MANY OTHER WACKY THINGS???  (Seriously, the novels are a TRIP.  XD)
Which brings us back around to your actual question.  The official translations on Amazon (books 1-6) actually cover books 1-halfway through 5 of the Chinese novels.  That’s it.  For anything else after that, you’ll have to move to fan translations.  (If you feel comfortable sending me a message off anon, I’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.)
And behind a cut for the rest, I think...
OK, so remember how I said that the books are published online first and then in print second?  The person who has done pretty much all of the fan translation had not done volumes 1-5 1/2 because they wanted to encourage everyone to support the official translations and still do.  They are, however, now going back and working on the the online versions of those volumes.  The reason I mention this is that while I absolutely agree that we should support the official translations if we can, they’re... not as good as they could be.  OTZ  They’re poorly localized, the transliterating of names is not consistent with current pinyin (i.e., Wu Sansheng instead of Wu Sanxing), and the writing itself is kind of clunky.  Now some of that is that the earlier novels were very early works of NPSS and his writing ability has grown by leaps and bounds through writing this series, so the later books are of a much higher quality.  And part of it is just... not great translating.  Which is unfortunate.
I remember enjoying the first two books but not being totally sucked in yet (and for the record, I WAS reading the official translations, so even though the fan-edited MTL is better, it isn’t like the official translations are unreadable.  They’re not.  They’re just not as good.), then slogging through book three (because that’s a Wu Xie-only book and I missed the Iron Triangle), and then I got to book four and didn’t stop reading until I’d devoured the entire rest of the series.  XD
As for the 8+ rating thing, I vaguely remember thinking that the simplicity of the writing and the adventure nature of the plot might have made it a fun read for my (then) 8 year old nephew as I was reading book 1, but the books are still very much intended for adults and that becomes quickly apparent by the time you’re in Volume 2 and beyond.  The themes get very complex and even dark in places in a way that might be hard for an 8 year old to follow (though that may depend on the 8 year old).  So I think that’s a mislabel on Amazon’s part and I wouldn’t let it worry you, if I were you.
...I realize this got very very long, but I hope I’ve managed to answer your question?  If not, please feel free to send another one and I’ll see if I can clear up what I missed.  ^_^

I have a question and I'm so sorry if this is dumb but like... what's the order for me to watch all the daomu biji series'? There's a bunch of them right? Like Ultimate Note, the Remake(?) etc? 😭😭😭
Technically without the extras chronologically so far like that:
The Lost Tomb (2015) The Lost Tomb 2 (2019) The Lost Tomb 2: Explore with the Note (2021) Ultimate Note (2020) Sand Sea (2018) Reunion: The Sound of the Providence (2020) Reunion: The Sound of the Providence 2 (2020)
The Mystic Nine (2016) - techically before everything, but you really don't need to start with 50 years before the main story.
With all the extras here on MDL there's a list.
BUT BUT BUUUUUUUUTTTT listen, like I in no way forcing my opinion, I think everyone has to decide for themselves how to watch, there's lots of opinions here and there, but I really don't think starting from the beginning is a good idea. I'm only saying it bc I know for sure that I myself personally wouldn't continue watching the first one and probably would've dropped the idea haha (but that's very personal opinion again, don't take it close to the heart).
My friend back in the days, when she recommended it to me told me "start with Ultimate Note, then do Reboot, just read the basic background about the characters and if you don't mind spoilers you can watch this ZQ and pingxie explainit vid on YT". And since I trusted her, I started with that one, knowing bits. By the end of Ultimate Note, I went straight to Reunion, bc by that time, I was already hooked and in the middle of the books. After Reunion I was already full on coo-coo and reached Restart novels and was just absolutely fucking in love. After that I've decided after already knowing everything, including obsessively digging into author's notes, interviews and all the extras, I decided to go back and see others for myself (by that time god awful Explore hasn't aired yet xD).
All in all each time new part airs and yeah in between those there are still holes (books) that hasn't been adapted yet, like for example "Tebetan Sea Flower" will air soon (by soon I mean next year if we're lucky xD), it is set before "Sand Sea" and one book after "Ultimate Note". So like you technically won't see the whole picture even if you watch all these. But also because most of them are a mess.
For example 1st adaptation is like technically book 1, but they stole a very important scene from book 7 there even tho its like clearly don't fit the characters in a state they were in part 1 and to me it's super dumb. Because like they don't even know each other in that part and that scene is like iconic for the trio. But most importantly I also just don't see anyone fitting into their roles. And to me its like 10 episodes of a weird cosplay xD. But some like it still.
I mostly judge adaptations by the "are characters close to the books or not" scale. I'm less offended by plot changes/holes, bc its in general the fun part of reading the books also (trying to guess what the fuck is even going on lol). So to me the most important part is my faves being my faves. That being sad it's impossible for me personally to see some of these adaptations as characters of original DMBJ.
Like Ultimate Note and Reboot also have their flaws ofc, esp UN, it has some stuff that doesn't make sense at all and it kinda like if DMBJ was seen through pink glasses, but still when you watch them you know for sure you watch the characters the author wrote (except for UN's Wu Xie's behavior during A Ning's death part that I can't forgive lmao) and also their emotional state fits exactly the moment of their relationships at that moment, which I think is very important, because again pingxie and iron triangle relationships progression are the MOST important part of these books. Ruining the incredibly touching thing everyone is there for is basically like ruining everything to me. Bc it's not just about the "hey its bromance", its a story about how hard it is to build trust and home and love etc. Not just "hey here it is".
There are lots of posts here like this one or this one with explanations and recommendations for the first entery to this fandom insanity. You can check these out too, if that helps.
So… if you have the guts to join this incredible fandom with incredible characters and ship, shitton of adventures and fun and heavy debates who played who better, then it'd be better to read the books for sure haha. That if you're ready to go on a rollercoater with a sometimes drunk author who adores his characters. I think it's perfect lmao. Personally its my fav franchise.
From which place to start this journey I think everyone decides for themselves, it for sure helps if you have a DMBJ addict friend to guide you, if you need help in process, you can DM me anytime. I think it depends on whose words/tastes you trust. Bc evryone watches things differently. I personally trusted my friend, who I know very well, then I already went with my own opinion about it after reading all the books, bc I wanted to see for myself. I wouldn't personally recommend anything besides Ultimate Note, Sand Sea and Reunion, but again thats me. To me Reunion still stays the closest to the characters and atmosphere of the books he wrote. So yeah, I myself started with UN, then in process started reading books, then watched Reunion after UN, finished the books, went back watch everything else and didn't enjoy anythings apart from Sand Sea. Others to me despite some being close to the plot, disgraced characters so badly that it was not good to watch in my opinion.
Books you can read here (books 1-5 are on amazon also, but you can start first one here bc its the better translation).
P.S. It seems scary to enter, but I swear it's absolutely 1000% worth it, also first books aren't that long even lol
P.P.S. The best option is really probably to read and judge for yourself. Bc there are also some ppl who treat the characters like they're from folklore, you know haha. So there's lots of "I haven't read, but that character is OOC here" (according I'm guessing to their headcanons haha), so it's better to not fall for that too. Bc I was very confused after I've read them. And I mean me you technically also can't trust. Bc even tho I've read everything fr bc I'm obsessed, we're all very different, so we'll still see things differently. Not that far (most book readers agree that these two are the best), but about some bits still maybe haha.
P.P.P.S. So far everyone I've gotten into this fandom were highly happy and are in the pit now, so I'm guessing my start with UN+ some basic knowledge formula works xD.
Also just remember that it's absolutely ok to feel confused at first, even those who are way too deep are still confused (Im kidding not really lol) trust me it'll slowly fall into amazing puzzle with some tiny holes still lol But with UN its easy to catch the wave and after that it'll all happen naturally and without much difficulty haha At least for many it worked, I can judge, I've forced many into this fandom due to my vids lol

🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride? 💖 What made you start writing? 🤭 Do you have a favorite tag to use when posting your works?
🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?
Okay this one was tough, cause I was trying to figure out what a wild ride is. I'm going to go with Wu Xie Has a Plan which uh is incredibly kinky (though with very little actual sex). Mainly because it was an extremely wild ride writing it. (So much research. I learned so much. So. Much. :big eyes:)
💖 What made you start writing?
Well... it's a convoluted story but it all started when one of my favorite authors switched to writing Untamed, so I watched that, fell in love, then google news noticed and was like have you seen this tumblr Blog? so I followed that blog, which recommended a DMBJ fic, which was amazing, so I started watching Lost Tomb Reboot, then Ultimate Note which <redacted spoiler> which caused me to go to tumblr to find out WHY!?! and create a tumblr account, and then I fell in this pit, where all I wanted to read was DMBJ fics (specifically Liu Sang or Iron Triangle ones) (usually I would just read whatever ignoring the fandom and pairings as long as it matched my tags :) ). And well.... there was very little Liu Sang content, and even less Asexual Characters, and I really wanted to just read Asexual/allo-sexual getting together fic of the iron triangle, so one day deep in lockdown, bored out of my mind cause all my normal outlets were gone, I started writing Ships and Sand, just for myself, never intending to share. I told my best friends and let them read the first chapter, who told me that they really liked it, so I decided to post it! I haven't stopped writing since. (even though I now have much less free time). (That got long oops)
TL;DR: I wanted to read Asexual Iron Triangle fics and they didn't exist (or were very rare) so I made it happen myself.
🤭 Do you have a favorite tag to use when posting your works?
I checked and it's 'Asexual Character' (50% of my works), followed closely by 'Getting Together' (41%). (only reason Getting Together isn't higher is cause I like to do one-shots of my longer works). This absolutely tracks with the reason I started writing.

soft moment i almost forgot about but came back to me just now: when the grenade was thrown while Jiao Lao Ban was about to leave, Jing Shu jumps over Er Shu to protect him; Zhang Qiling instantly puts his arm around Wu Xie to run, they incidentally almost run into a tree, then he puts his arm over Wu Xie to protect him (or shield his fall, god knows). When they get up again, he gets grass off Wu Xie and gives his shoulder a tiny comforting rub and then theyre off again

Ok but do Bai Haotian and Wu Xie ever like ... do their jobs? At Warehouse 11? We see Wu Xie move a box one (1) time??
The real mystery is why Director Ding went through all that shit to set them up when he could have just done a performance review, is what I’m saying

Lost Tomb Reboot Lewks: Part 14
(Masterpost) (Other Canary Stuff)
Warning: Spoilers for both seasons of The Lost Tomb Reboot and also vaguely for Daomu Biji in general
Tumblr media
For Look 72, Wu Xie strips out of his jacket and shirt so he can use the shirt as a makeshift air filter. Underneath he’s wearing a tight black a-line undershirt and a black bulletproof vest.
Welcome back, Wu Xie’s bare arms. We’ve missed you.
Tumblr media
So have Huo Daofu and Xiao Bai.
Tumblr media
Look 73 is a spare, unpretentious tee shirt and jeans combination that Wu Xie accessorizes with the looming spectre of death, the amorphous fog of the afterlife, and the shades of his departed loved ones.
Tumblr media
He looks chilly in this outfit; he needs a hoodie. Preferably a hoodie with Xiao Ge in it.
Tumblr media
(more after the cut!)
When he comes out of this interstitial space he’s added the lifesaving accessory of a nebulizer mask. My son had one of these as a baby, that had a duck face on it.  Wu Xie’s mask is a sensible orange color. I am sensing a missed opportunity here.
Tumblr media
Look 74: When he feels a little better, Wu Xie switches into this absolute crusher of a look.
Tumblr media
Featuring a beautifully fitted, butter-smooth brown leather jacket, and his trademark chaps trousers, he is ready to get back on the adventure trail in a big way, impending death be damned.
This is a good outfit for having a tragic conversation with your beloved real uncle while your shady not-really-uncle won’t give you guys one fucking minute of privacy to say your goodbyes.
Tumblr media
He accessorizes this outfit with the blatant theft of a motorbike with a sidecar, which he uses to hold his backpack, and of a cool motorcycle helmet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He looks a bit like Qin Hao (Sha Hai’s Wu Xie) here, doesn’t he? He’s got that harder look in his eye, reminding us that he is still a relentless motherfucker when he needs to be.
If you’re hoping for any scenes in which Zhu Yilong is clearly actually riding this motorcycle, incidentally, don’t hold your breath.
Tumblr media
I have seen Zhu Yilong on a moving motorbike in Granting You A Dreamlike Life, so I believe he could be filmed on a motorcycle where his face and the motorbike’s moving wheels are visible in the same shot, but TLTR does not give us this level of motorcycle fanservice, alas.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Wu Xie completes this outfit with a greyish, brownish button-up shirt with a tabbed buttonhole detail at the collar, and a belt with an intriguing quick-release buckle.
Tumblr media
And backpacks; lots of backpacks.
Tumblr media
Much later, we will see that this is a great a good look for bonding with fellow members of The Unnecessary Thigh-Strap Club.
Tumblr media
Look 75  is everybody’s orange jumpsuit.  It is the same jumpsuit on everybody, but each person wears it a little differently.
The collar has three stripes below the closure, which creates some visual interest and plays up the different ways the characters wear it.
Tumblr media
Liu Sang and Xiao Bai both wear it with the collar zipped up. Later, Liu Sang can use this structured collar to accentuate all the blood that’s going to be on his face.
Tumblr media
Wu Xie wears the color open and popped, perfect to set off some intense gazing
Tumblr media
And Pangzi wears it to get comfy with his favorite cuddle buddy.
Tumblr media
Look 76 is Xiao Bai’s awesome pumpkin-and-green ensemble that she wears at the campsite in Thunderville.
Tumblr media
It’s utilitarian enough to fit right in with the rest of the team, but bright enough to give it a feminine touch. The jacket has a deconstructed hem, giving it a casual vibe and showing off her ass.
Tumblr media
Xiao Bai’s clothes usually have some kind of interesting tailoring detail, while always being very practical. It’s a nice, consistent way of showing her personality. She enjoys being cute and fashion-forward, but she is a woman of action first.
Bonus Look 1
This Look belongs to Liu Sang, the third member of the Unnecessary Thigh-Strap club. I am not complaining about any of the unnecessary thigh straps.
Tumblr media
Bonus Look 2
This look is just Xiao Bai running in a wetsuit. I’m not made of stone.

Jiang Zisuan had Wu Xie right there in his sniper scope and had a flashback or a panic attack or something and missed. And I'm not saying I wanted him to actually shoot Wu Xie but that was his one chance!! And he missed! How you gonna be an expert sniper and miss? Wu Xie was so close too. Like they were not that far apart at all. And you're gonna miss by a fucking mile? My guy. Get your shit together please.

some over arching thoughts on Lost Tomb Reboot
Now that i’m done liveblogging all of lost tomb
Possible spoilers under the cut so read at your own risk.
the Iron triangle was wonderful and i wish there had been more interactions between the 3 of them.
it honestly felt like the writers purposely minimized how much wu xie and Qiling interacted because they knew how popular the ship was in china and didn’t want to get slapped by censorship more that they were already at risk for
speaking of censorship, i’ll give the writers credit for somehow making everything a crab, bug, or mollusc. they stretched real far at times, but they did it.
wu xie was a delightfully fleshed out character with a well rounded personality. the same traits get him out of trouble are exactly the same traits that get him into trouble half the time. he’s a brilliant idiot and a hilariously floppy drunk.
I didn’t really like how much time was spent in warehouse 11. it felt drawn out and the harassment scenes felt like they were taken straight out of a shojo anime, not a tomb raiding, intrigue drama.
Liu Sang and Xiao Bai are SO YOUNG! oh my god! everyone! stop punching the children!
the older i get, the more i worry about younger characters, no matter how little they really need it.
women in this show get very little outside of their singular relationships  with men. it honestly got annoying. piaopiao and chuchu deserved better.
I watched this after watching guardian and i really enjoyed Zhu Yilong’s acting. With guardian, he got a bad script that was based on a really good original work and managed to portray so many nuances. in LTB, he got a good script based on a really good original work and got to portray sooooo many different emotions and event 2 different people!
his scenes as Wang Meng are probably my favorite because i’ve never seen him be so adorable before.
two things i think fandom needs to think about is Among Us crack fic, where the whole “find the spy” plotline is rewritten as a game of among us and leverage AU.
I have more thoughts, but I should  stop this here, its getting really long....
