a sudden Jack Thompson brainrot just attacked me out of nowhere and it won’t leave me alone so I Will Share.
Idk just the idea of him being a selkie (despite the fact that even if there was an AU with everyone as some kind of mystical creature, he would still be a human) is really comical because he’s the same character, just also constantly carrying around the same jacket everywhere and never puts it on. He doesn’t let anyone touch his jacket--that’s his jacket, don’t get your smudgy fingers on his precious jacket gosh darn it. And it confuses everyone at the office because he never wears the bloody thing but it’s been going on for long enough now that they don’t question it.
He’s really possessive of his jacket. When they go out for drinks, he lays it across his lap and never sets it down much less lets it out of his sight. The clingy-ness is really bad on field assignments because he absolutely cannot stand to lose it in the chaos of a chase or shoot-out; usually he’s got a hand on the thing at all times. He has and will fight anyone who so much as touches it. Picking it up entirely makes him freak out and start screaming to “put that down! put it down right now!” and it’s scary sometimes. Like if he’s flirting with a girl and she tries to take his jacket as a lil jokey joke every ounce of fun and games with him shuts down completely and his regular jerkish growling swoops in full-throttle. Someone tried to hand it to him as a courtesy and he almost flipped his crap. He made the dude set it back down on the chair before picking it up himself lol.
A few times, people have gotten hold of his precious skin and he’s been at their whim until he could get it back and honestly he’s not a fan of being compelled to be their slave. I’m laughing over imagining Krzeminski taking it while Jack isn’t looking and locking it in his desk drawer or something and after Jack has a mini panic attack he realizes that he now shares a bond with his idiot coworker of all people and must do as he says and get him a kriffing donut and coffee from the bullpen though he’s seething and livid the entire time until he can find the key to the desk drawer and get his precious jacket back. Meanwhile everyone is shocked that he’s answering to Krzeminski including Krzeminski because it started out as a bet and now Jack is actually taking orders without having to be told twice hallelujah. I’d like to think this happens a couple of times with Dooley too because Jack trusts him and is comfortable enough around him to leave his jacket lying about. Dooley just takes it and hangs it on the coat rack in the corner but Jack is confused about why he suddenly feels like an ssr boy scout and has to pick his jacket up even if he just puts it back down again before the intoxicating surge of patriotism abates and his desire to follow the chief around like a pup returns to a normal level.
Actually putting the skin on is a rarity for him because where’s he going to swim that people won’t be able to see? Also the rivers in New York are filthy and polluted and he hates the water there, will even use a boat to travel through them if it means not having to touch it or breathe it. On long weekends, he probably goes to his Gam’s beach house in Jersey and spends all his time in the ocean because he’s Moana and it calls him haha. Gam chides him affectionately and tells him he needs to stop spending so much time on land it’s not good for his skin.
Does he fully transform into a seal when he puts the skin on? The lore disagrees about whether transformed selkies are seals or just mermaids that have seal tails. I’m more inclined to the latter because I have a chronic obsession with mermaids and Jack would make a sexy mermaid, but he’d also be a really cute seal idk. Maybe he can do both depending on which is most suited to his environment: for example, if he needs to breathe underwater and be able to grab things, or if he’d rather be round and unassuming/not identifiable as a freaky creature with the potential to scare ignorant civilians. But,,, maybe he needs to shed and re-don his skin to switch between mermaid-ish thing and seal to fill those plot holes also known as premeditated conveniences for having people accidentally encounter him naked on the beach because I am a cruel author teehee.
More comedy when he can’t swim in his human form because he never bothered learning like the douche he is. He arrogantly assumes he’ll never be in a situation where he’ll need to rely on his human form instead of just switching to a more water-friendly body.
Maybe this leads to the angst (because it wouldn’t be me without it come on) when he’s stuck in a body of water--like the Hudson maybe--but people are watching him so even though he has his jacket clutched tightly in his hand he can’t change or he’ll reveal his true nature. Someone--probably Peggy tbh--has to jump in and haul his butt out when he inevitably drowns and he held onto the jacket so fiercely but he was unconscious and the current was strong so he must have let go. When he finally wakes up coughing and sore his first question is for the whereabouts of his jacket--not who saved him because Peggy’s soaking and she’s leaning over him with a disgruntled and annoyed look so it’s probably safe to guess it was her--tightly grabbing Peggy’s wrist and demanding to know whether she saved it too. Obviously she doesn’t understand the significance of it, and after the very unwelcome thrill of realizing he “couldn’t swim”, a replaceable piece of clothing is the last of her concerns right now, which she expresses with an exasperated “Jack, you never even wore the bloody thing. I think you can live without it”.
But Jack starts panicking because it definitely isn’t replaceable, he only has one and if he loses it for good he can never go back to the sea and he’s pretty sure he can’t live without that, even if he spends most of his life on land these days. It’s a part of his soul, part of his identity, and he feels so incomplete without it. There’s no way she’ll understand that, but he can’t help feeling horrified, absolutely terrified knowing it might be gone and his true self locked away from him forever and screw professionalism, Jack breaks down right there and cries, full-on ugly sobbing and shaking and hugging himself feeling lost and exposed and a little bit violated like a chunk of his heart got yoinked by an ice cream scooper and Peggy and whoever else is there has no idea how to handle this situation because Jack has never expressed such strong feelings for anything other than his frigging jacket for reasons he refuses to disclose and they’ve never seen him so hysterical and agonized even when he got shot a few times in one sitting or fell off a building and broke his femur or got stabbed with a laced blade because losing his skin is so much worse than any bodily harm he could sustain.
For weeks afterwards, he’s completely steeped in depression and totally lethargic and can barely remember to eat, meanwhile sleep is all he seems to know how to do. To the rest of the crew, it looks like he lost his dear wife or somethin, like he’s mourning a person he loved a big lot, so most of them think the jacket held sentimental value as a gift from someone he really cared about. And then since we can’t leave him wallowing in sad boi vibes forever, someone eventually finds his skin (maybe a pretty, young lady OwO) and--surprised by it being durable enough to survive the river while still looking fashionable and gorgeous--decides to keep it. I’d like to think that the skin changes appearances depending on who holds it. Jack’s GamGam preferred a shawl, Jack likes his jacket, and when the lady fishes it out of the river, it changes into a really chique, designer-esque style that’s impossible to give up. Jack immediately senses when this happens since... legally he’s bound to whoever is in possession of his skin to do whatever they want and stuff, so he knows that someone has it, but New York’s a big city. it could be anyone.
Really it just adds to his misery because now on top of being deprived of his true self he’s also got this profound and compelling urge to do someone’s bidding but he has no idea where they are or what they’d even want him to do if they knew who he was so now it’s a daily struggle to just think straight ugh. BUT we can’t just leave him there either because where’s the fun in that? Chance encounter on the street, meet-cute, key witness for an investigation, whatever it is they meet somehow, and Jack’s whole focus tunnels on getting his kriffing jacket back. It’s really hard though, because this feisty lady says she found it for herself, and she really likes it and won’t part with it, and anyway it’s a woman’s style clothing so why on earth would Jack want it?
Meanwhile Jack is just internally losing his sanity, so close yet so far, and at the same time he’s enslaved to her and can’t do a single freaking thing about it. To top it off, no one knows what the heck is really going on because that would require revealing his identity and haha no, so all anyone else can see is just Jack living, dying, breathing, and absolutely losing his braincells over a jacket they’ve never seen him put on and it’s baffling their minds. I’m sure he’ll get it back eventually. The whole ssr in the meantime is just watching him be weird while simultaneously trying to subtly investigate his butt but they keep hitting a dead end because while they may be the primary government agency for explaining the mystical and unexplainable, none of them ever actually accounted for those factors when considering Thompson. There’s a betting pool about whether he was deprived of jackets as a child and therefore developed a hyper fixation on them as an adult. The reveal will probably end up being loud and dramatic because those buffoons are Like That.

What led to this (orufrey comic, cw an uncomfortable/creepy scene)
#witch hat tag#orufrey#er.... i'm too tired to have anything to say..i worked several days on this.#wait.. didn't i say just recently here that i probably wouldn't ever depict 'what if alaira is qifrey's sort-of ex'. What's going on#i don't even remember deciding to draw this..it's all a blur..i'm not sure why i WOULD decide to draw delicate scenes in my head#that i wouldn't really want to share with anyone/discuss so why did i draw it...#some part of me really really wants to draw things that are more and more true to myself...#maybe because of my alienation with most romance/shipping/dynamics the rest of the world depicts.#orufrey really is perfectly suited to me - what i read in the text and what is in my head. well anyway#i am TIRED of drawing poses and angles and..maybe now i will actually take a break from drawing bc of the tediousness of Angles#btw it really is a 'stretch of time' . . . assuming witches graduate age 18-20#well orufrey are canonically 30-ish. they've only had agott around for presumably about TWO years (?) bc she took the test age 10#and it feels like oru moving in/unknown atelier acquisition/building (?) .. i guess that could be a year or so before agott at most#(she was the first disciple) so... ????????? What about the other 7 or so years ?!?!?!!?!?! Unemployed Brimhat Hatred era#that time is very nebulous. after qifrey went to the tower i feel like it's been implied he and oru drifted apart a little.#certainly they didn't live together at first... no way. that doesn't feel like how it is based on things oru has said about becoming Eye#idk. I'm tired now. i don't usually think of alaira as necessarily qifrey's ex and this being how things went in that 'sliver of time'.#i usually prefer the idea that they have their first kiss with each other in their 30s cause That's Just The Orufrey Lifestyle#just felt like making a more relatable alternative view of my own Cai Orufrey Canon one time. btw im a big monoshipper and it hurt a bit#let's leave it there. this is surely the most i've worked on a 'single' art - though now i realise just how much longer the fic took :')

So, here's the thing:
Tango knows that Zedaph is this close to staging an intervention.
He lies against the wiring for Decked Out and stares at the ceiling. He should probably be more concerned about that. Early-season Tango would be concerned about that; a situation getting bad enough that Zedaph, of all people, is ready to stage an intervention is normally a sign it's gotten pretty dang bad. But he's close. He's so close. And it's not like he's worried, not anymore.
He'd been worried, once? Like, he'd been scared, at some point of what the Frozen Citadel was starting to do to him. But now that he's there--
If he's asked, Tango will say it's mutualism, and not elaborate, because if anyone stages enough of an intervention to stop Decked Out from finishing what it's started, he's probably going to scream. He's probably going to always wonder. Worst of all, he won't finish the game on time. So like, so what if it's eating him a little? Or a lot? Or basically completely, given that he's pretty sure the damage is irreversible at this point?
Anyway, it doesn't matter. Start of the season Tango probably would care more, but like, it's mutual. Decked Out gets to eat Tango. Use him as an appropriate game piece. Sometimes as a processor. To do repairs. Whatever. It's important for the whole process. And Tango gets a sick game. Which, for some, sounds like an absurd trade-off, but it's not just the game, okay?
It's not just--
If it were just "I need to let my accidentally very sentient and very large base eat me to finish the game", he might do it? But he wouldn't, like, be actively conspiring to hide the fact that he's starting to be physically incapable of breathing like, normal oxygen and stuff. He wouldn't be conspiring to hide just how literal the shop item allowing you to control the gamemaster is. He wouldn't be trying to hide how close he is to just--being another part of Decked Out. Not being a "Tango" as an individual, but being a part of the machine. Basically a really fancy redstone component.
If it were just "he's really proud and he'd be sad if it took longer", he wouldn't have hung a sheep on the outside of the building to make sure some part of Decked Out knows that Zedaph is its friend, once there isn't a Tango to remind it of that properly. He would have asked Zedaph to actually do that intervention he's planning.
He didn't. He acted like he had several more weeks than he probably did. But it's fine. Decked Out ate the fear, anyway, so he can't feel it, and whatever sense of desire to like, not be redstone component was probably eaten also, and. And.
He's not sure how to describe it in a way that doesn't make him sound insane, but--
It's so close. Decked Out is so close to eating him completely. And that should be terrifying, if that weren't the first thing that got dissolved away, if he hadn't been scared since forever. Maybe, somewhere, there's part of him that is scared. There's a lot of him that knows he should be.
But those moments, the ones he's having more and more, where he forgets he's Tango. Where he forgets he's anything but part of the machine. And he's part of something big, and great, and he has a specific use, and he's aware for all of it but not aware of being himself, and he can feel exactly how he's important to the great machine and he does his job and absolutely everything else fades away entirely and he is the Game Master and even that's not an individual identity it's part of a whole it's part of something beautiful it's part of something so, so alive while not being alive at all and, and then--and then he's not done being eaten yet. And the Tango comes in. The fear, the insecurity, the, the flaws.
And he'd just lie there, and he'd feel it. The almost-just-a-part. The sense of just--being, and not being anyone in particular, but being. The lack of self. He'd feel the voltage from the redstone wires and try to capture it again, and be unable to, not on his own.
Not while he's left as Tango, at least a little bit uneaten.
So. Uh. He told you he didn't know how to describe it without sounding insane. But he'll never forgive himself. Never forgive himself if he doesn't find out what happens when it's done. What it's like to just--be a part of Decked Out and nothing else. What it feels like to give in completely.
Therefore. Zedaph. Intervention. Pretend he's better than he is so Zedaph doesn't do that. It shouldn't be long now. The amount of time he's aware and Tango is--less. The amount of fear is--it's entirely gone now. The amount he thinks "gee beginning of season Tango would say this is a bad plan" is almost zero.
The game is almost ready to open.
If he can just hold out that long, then there won't be anything anyone could do.
They'll be too busy having fun with the game, anyway. With any luck, no one will notice.

I'm not a huge fan of the Tazercraft mental link headcanon (it's just not my cup of tea personally), HOWEVER—
I can't stop thinking about Pac in Alcatraz with his back to the wall as Cell approaches him with a cold smile on his face and a bloody knife in one hand, and Pac completely blocking Mike out because he knows something terrible is about to happen, and if he can't save himself then maybe he can at least spare Mike the graphic gory details.
And even when he’s lying on the cold concrete floor in a pool of his own blood, Pac is still trying to block everything out so he doesn't project his pain to Mike through their mental link. But ultimately, that's what scares Mike the most — the sharp flash of Pac's terror for an instant, and then silence.

"My country lay within a vast desert. When the sun rose into the sky, a burning wind punished my lands, searing the world. And when the moon climbed into the dark of night, a frigid gale pierced our homes. No matter when it came, the wind carried the same thing... Death. But the winds that blew across the green fields of Hyrule brought something other than suffering and ruin. I coveted that wind, I suppose."
Hey guess which character I love.

Finally caught up on Bleach TYBW (anime) and a need to discuss a potential idea.
~ More Ichigo and the Visored ~
⚠️ Please scroll past this if you're worried about spoilers for the anime ⚠️
So because the idea that some of the visored die so soon after they've finally gotten back to normal devastates me in ways I can't fully put into words, and because I will never get enough visored and Ichigo interactions/relationships, I think a canon divergent/AU type fic idea towards the end of the 2nd season would be so fun to explore.
As always I'm gonna add in some more instinctive traits that I like to imagine the visored have.
So, I'm really into the idea that Mayuri can save Rose and Kensei but he's not going to do it out of the good of his heart. He's got the thing he's doing with the zombie type stuff already so let's imagine he's can save them still somehow. Or that they're going to be fine and everything's fine, totally fine. They're all good
However, Ichigo would be a prize that would make saving them worth the trouble. This would be perfect opportunity. He'll heal Rose and Kensei if Ichigo agrees to go with him, they negotiate x amount of time. Maybe a week or whatever.
Even better, Ichigo agrees to this. No one can even say that Mayuri had taken him against his will or done something worth being stripped of captain because when Ichigo agreed. And Mayuri is even going to honor the time frame agreed upon. He knows that he's already pushing it with the deal tbh.
I personally can't believe there aren't more fics about Mayuri trying everything he can to get Ichigo in his labs for testing and observation.
But I want to focus on the visored and Ichigo with this.
Rose and Kensei wake up to the others and they all have a little time for themselves as a group because the idea of losing any of them is devastating and they almost did.
And maybe people still aren't panicking about Ichigo yet, everyone assuming he's with someone else, but that quickly changes. Because Ichigo isn't with Chad and Orihime, or Rukia and Renji, or Urahara, Ganju, etc. And people start to panic because where the fuck is Ichigo?
I like the idea that Mayuri just tells people when they get smart enough to side eye him after he's been strangely quiet about wasting resources on searching for someone like Ichigo.
He didn't do anything wrong, after all. He and Ichigo had made a deal. They will get Ichigo back after the allotted time is up.
So everyone is stuck waiting for the time to be up, hovering outside the 12 division in shifts, trying to keep Kisuke from destroying his old division in a breathtaking rage and attempting to convince Kenpachi to wait until they have Ichigo before killing the clown.
No one quite gets what happened though. What could Mayuri had offered that Ichigo wanted so bad?
And maybe only a few people figure it out, or maybe everyone does, but somehow the visored put together that Ichigo saved Rose and Kensei specifically.
What would that mean to people who were used to betrayal? Who probably only truly trusted or loved each other?
Sure, Ichigo is one of their. And I wish we got to see more interactions with them. Bleach has so many great relationships and dynamics that we never really dig into as much as I'd like. But he was so young and there was a slight disconnect between them because Ichigo hadn't been betrayed like they had, he hadn't been left to simmer in his anger for years like they had.
They're fond of him, more so than they are about most people, but they would never had asked this of him. Or ever have even expected it. And that makes it even worse because Ichigo didn't need them to ask, he just did it.
There are certain people are Ichigo's, his to protect and love and sacrifice for. His sisters, Chad, Orihime, Uryu, Rukia, Kisuke, the Visored, and more.
So Mayuri had the ability to save people that Ichigo considers his and he didn't even have to think about it.
Of course he'd let Mayuri do his experiments on him, as long as Rose and Kensei would be okay. Because Ichigo also knows that it's going to destroy the other visored to hear that they're gone.
When the time period is up, Ichigo comes stumbling out of the 12th like he's drunk, clearly hurt, and starting to fall only to immediately be swept up and away by one or more of the visored.
There are many people who want to see Ichigo, to check on him and make sure he's okay but they all step back and allow the visored a chance to have him first.
They have a wildness to their eyes that doesn't have anything to do the gold in them and they seem darker, right on the edge of being cruel if they deem it necessary.
No one is going to touch Ichigo when he's hurt and vulnerable because of them.
So everyone steps back and lets them be the ones to get him first.
They have a room they consider safe and comfortable, far enough away to have some privacy but close enough that no one was going to throw a fit about Ichigo being too far away.
They hover when someone from the 4th comes in to check Ichigo and they make their intentions of being alone with him known to anyone who's brave enough to check on them.
They settle around the room with lips curled back to show teeth and eyes glowing, looking like the monsters they try so hard to not be. Their bodies sink into the shadows of the room and golden eyes focus on their youngest, hurt and passed out on a little futon in the middle of the room.
And to add to it, I think something about not being able to heal everything because they don't know what Mayuri gave him and how it will react to kaido, so he's just bandaged up for the time being.
Chad, Orihime, Rukia, Kisuke, and others keep everyone away and guard the room. Even though they would love to see Ichigo and make sure he's okay, they know that the visored need him more right now.
They make sure food and water is regularly provided and try to not look when the door opens enough for a hand to reach out and grab the supplies.
They looked once when the door cracked open and they just saw darkness and gold, a growled warning that went all the way down to their bones and had them snapping back around and pretending they hadn't seen anything.
Ichigo smells like blood and salt and hurt. It burns their noses because he's supposed to smell like warmth and power and Ichigo. Like pack.
He eventually wakes up and, because it's Ichigo, the first thing he focuses on is how happy he is to see Rose and Kensei are okay. How happy he is to see that they're all okay.
He smiles but it doesn't sit quite right on his face because he's still bruised and hurt. They yell at him, calling him everything they can think of and trying to make sure it's drilled into his head that he should never do something like that again.
He knows they've been staying there with him though, can tell by the state of the room that they haven't left him. They look rough, exhausted but with a fresh burst of energy from him waking up.
He can hear the thank yous in-between their lectures and complaining. He can feel the affection in the way they keep looking him over, all of them close enough to jump into action if he needed them. He knows they say don't ever do that again but they mean we will never put you in that position again, and god you're a fucking idiot but they mean god you're our fucking idiot.
There's still a small smile on his face, and he says he'd do it all over again.
-------------------
1.) I'm fucking obsessed with Senjumaru. She's perfect. Her character design is beautiful, her bankai is incredible, and she could stab me with needles and I'd say thank you.
2.) I'm also enjoying Askin a lot? I've honestly found most of the quincy characters annoying as fuck but I'm enjoying him so far.
