What happens when a no good, rotten, criminal dumbass gets bitten by a radioactive spider? Whoever said "with great power comes great responsibility" never met this guy. (Or maybe he did...briefly.) Lock up your valuables, he's got sticky fingers. A lot of 'em.

It's probably because I thought the Harvestman was cute but when they took the girl and I found her unharmed, I thought she had become friends with them. A piece I didn't quite finish for last month's bird OC. Close enough though, so have a spooky.
Harvestman was mostly active before the war between Cyclonia and the Free Atmos, going MIA only a few years into it. However before that, he had a reputation for tormenting a different threat to the Skies:
Murk Raiders.
As always, more under the cut.
The pirates of Terra Deep learned fairly early on in the man's tenure not to mess with Cyclonian ships. He'd lure them into trapping decoy ships so that he could sneak onto them, and using Magnesis crystals he would open up the jaws to free his crew, much to the confusion of the pirates.
Then the 'fun' would begin.
The Harvestman would crush their ship hulls, tear through crewmen, and destroy their weaponry with his magic. Since no one knew how he fought, it was almost impossible to counteract his attacks. The Murk Raiders soon decided it was best to avoid Cyclonia's vessels altogether.
He rarely, if ever, left survivors. The ships he ravaged would be set to drift back into the fogs of Terra Deep to be discovered.
One survivor he did leave behind was none other than a young Captain Scabulous before his captain-ing days.
They all breathed a sigh of relief when this monster of a man was finally shot down into the Wastelands.

Strange #5 Spoilery Thoughts
Like I said, I just read this issue, I’m slightly buzzed on (decaffeinated) coffee, and I wanna talk about a few things.
Okay, let’s get the obvious out of the way first. The reveal that Stephen is The Harvest Man.

...Is what I would be saying if I hadn’t seen that post @doctorofmagic made this morning so...yeah, I knew.
That being said, it does make me wonder how Death’s “ownership” (I guess?) of Stephen works?
They’ll explain it in future issues, I’m sure. But for now, my theory is that it’s akin to turned humans in Vampire Knight, where the vampire retains their own mind but cannot disobey a direct order from their master. So Stephen DOES still have his mind, but because death “claimed” his soul, he can’t say no to his new “Mistress”. Which has really gotta suck for someone as headstrong as Stephen the more I think about it.
It would explain his line about “Forget him! He’s not worth it! Believe me!” Even after all this time, he still thinks Clea deserves better than him because of all the BS he put her through.
Which makes my shipper heart go “Awe! He’s trying to hurt her to save her!”
Also “No, Stephen! You deserve her! She’s doing this all for you! She knows it’s not your fault! Let her save you, you stubborn SOB!”
I am disappointed we didn’t get Clea vs. Zombie Stephen, though. That would’ve been cool! I would say it’s false advertising...except, it isn’t. Not really. I mean, the cover didn’t lie. Stephen is back from the dead, just...not in the way we all thought he’d be.
Either way, I’m gonna need to break out the Sailor Moon playlist for when this story reaches it’s climax! Mainly cause...yeah! Clea is gonna save Stephen & bring him back to life using the power of love! That is totally where this story’s going and you can’t tell me any different!

I just realized I never posted photos of this really pretty harvestman i came across a while back. Note the green pedipalps and the dark and light spots on its back.

i post mostly original content on this blog but I just learned about a creature I need to immediately spread awareness of.
Its a type of harvestman from New Zealand called Acropsopilio. It has similar relatives elsewhere in the world (such as Caddo sp. from N.A) but they don’t quite rival its incredible form

finally got around to renovating the Cynortoides quadrispinosa. after the roundup, turns out I have over 70!
they’re a lovely armored harvestman from Jamaica, now introduced in South Florida where they appear to replace the native Libitiodes (formerly Vonones), a visually very similar genus with two species found from Ohio south to about where Cynortoides start.
they are peaceful animals, spending most of their time tucked into crevices with as many friends nearby as possible. also surprisingly sturdy, and can’t drop their legs like other harvestmen, having gone the beetle route of having a tough shelly body and equally sturdy limbs.
