Mini Movie Review

The Fog (1980).

Grade: B minus.

An early work by John Carpenter, about a mysterious fog that brings with it undead pirates attempting to get revenge on the town for reasons that are revealed slowly throughout the film. The movie was OK, but it seemed like a clumsy cross between a horror movie, and a whodoneit that comes off to me as clunky now—after all of these years of horror and slasher movies later.

31 Days of Horror - Day 28. The Fog (1980)

I chose this movie because ghost pirates sounded pretty cool. But unfortunately, the ghost pirates were lacking. This movie kind of falls into generic slasher territory which is a shame considering it's a John Carpenter movie with an absolutely stacked cast of Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh, Tom Atkins and Adrienne Barbeau. The movie had a great concept and story but it needed more of the ghost pirates, needed more and better kills.

Overall I give this movie a 2.5 out of 5
