Currently watching The Deep House (Dir. Julien Maury, 2021)
This movie is so fucking cool, the concept and execution were so new and it was a breath of fresh air to watch a new original idea on the screen instead of another remake or movie based on something popular.

Movies for Halloween
The Deep House (2015)
This little offering combines two of my favorite things....a haunted house and attractive people in tight wetsuits! Ben and Tina are a young engaged New York couple and passionate YouTube contributors who are traveling Europe and seeking out reputedly haunted houses to live-record their experiences. One day, they go to the southwest of France to find a former sanatorium submerged in an artificial lake, only to find it a crowded vacation spot. A local, Pierre, offers to take them to an isolated branch of the lake in the forest of Chanteloup, an area which was artificially submerged in 1984 to prevent frequently recurring, devastating floods. The area he leads them to contains a mansion which he claims has remained perfectly preserved. Their dive turns into a nightmare when they discover the house was the scene of atrocious crimes.
Oh....and don't shut it off as soon as the credits start to roll...there's a very brief but creepy post-credit scene that will give you a shiver! Enjoy!

The Deep House (2021)
Ever heard of a haunted house underwater? Chances are,,, probably not.
The Deep House has an amazingly original concept. Determined to get unique footage for his online vlog, our main heroes Ben and Trina track down a secluded diving location with the help of a strange local. They eventually learn that they got more than they bargained for when the flooded house reveals itself as a crime scene and that they are far from alone.
This movie can be described in one word. Lackluster. Other than Ben's, charming in my opinion, small pranks and go-lucky attitude, they gave us no reason to care about these characters.
The entire movie itself felt like a drawn-out Twilight Zone episode. Instead of being presented with a story and plot that makes sense, it feels more as if someone sat down and thought, "How fucked up would this situation be" and decided to run with it.
It's not a bad movie. The acting, scenery, dialogue, and characters could use a little work, but the spirit for a good film is there! I'd recommend this if you're someone like me who just wants to see every horror film ever made but for someone who's just looking for a good spooky film for a dark night in, go ahead and pass on this one. You're not missing much.
