my roommate and i have a disagreement where i think the girl/boy color palettes have hues that look good together, but there needs to be more variation in the value/saturation in order for them to look good (like this). my roommate thinks that they look fine on their own, but they have to be arranged differently to look good, like this:

dude, do you guys remember back in February that homestuck revival?
Like, i had a total of two functioning posts that had like...100 notes because of the gendered color pallets thing and how that was a HUGE thing, and half the people in the thread didn’t know it was a homestuck thing

Demetri and the sincerity color palette?
Demetri with what is supposed to be Aro and Amun's hands on his shoulders. He's just a sad boy who got turned into a vampire and then forced into hiding (and then recruited by the organization that forced the group he's with into hiding)
color palettes (still open for requests and probably will be until the end of the week. I will just be slow at getting to them. I'm open to people asking for multiple requests by the way. This is a small fandom.)

The Color Theory/Coordination in Fate: The Winx Saga Sucks
Okay so in the cartoon, each of the girls has their own designated color(s) they tend to wear.
Bloom: Blue
Stella: Orange
Flora: Pink
Musa: Red
Tecna: Purple
Aisha/Layla: Green
These colors, for the most part, do not particularly correlate with their powers. And I LIKE IT that way.
Having a characters designated colors correlate with their element/powers is cheesy, predictable, and cliche.
It works sometimes with cartoons like Avatar, but it does not usually translate well to live action. That is where Fate went wrong.
It’s simple color theory, really.
Let’s break it down, shall we?
Bloom’s powers are fire, which are orange/red. Her outfit colors are blue, which is opposite of orange on the color wheel. By dressing her in blue, her hair and her powers stand out vibrantly.
Tecna’s color is purple, which is (not directly, but still close to) opposite of green, the color of her powers.
Flora’s powers are also green, as she is a nature fairy. Her outfit color is pink, which is opposite of green on the color wheel.
Aisha’s outfit color is green. Aisha is the fairy of waves, so one would think that the color of her powers would be blue. But, her power is Morphix, which is a purple/pink plasma-like substance, which IS opposite of green on the color wheel.
The outliers are Musa and Stella.
Musa is the fairy of music, which doesn’t really have a color correlation to anything. Her outfit color is red, and the color of her powers is purple, which are not opposite of each other on the color wheel
Stella is the fairy of the sun, and her outfit color is orange, and the color of her powers is gold, both of which are colors associated with the sun and are next to each other on the color wheel. However, in her transformation outfit there are blue accents, and as we have already established, blue is opposite of orange. And in some of her casual outfits she is wearing a green color, which is also opposite of orange.
They ruined all of this in Fate.
By making Bloom’s color red (fire), Aisha’s color blue (water), Terra’s (rip Flora) color green (plants), etc, they make the characters blend into the element they use. They don’t stand out. And frankly, it looks stupid. Especially with Bloom always wearing all red.

SO. Let's do a GOOD NEWS thing regarding the fiberglass. With Ulta's Black Friday sale, AND mom and sis quietly using my rewards card when shopping to build up my points, I got two new palettes in the mail. These will FINALLY fill in the last major gap in my replacement eyeshadow collection, one I've rebuilt a bit with help from friends.
I love makeup, ok? Specifically eye makeup. I love doing bright colors, seasonal looks, movie colors, tv show colors, holiday looks, etc. It's become a thing for me, because I was very depressed and lonely as a teen and and tried very hard to fit the Good Christian Girl mold at church to make friends, which meant very low key makeup and conservative colors in the area I lived. But then I started to make fandom friends online, went to cons with them, and slowly became both more confident and more comfortable being me because they helped show me that Real Me was actually a perfectly likeable person, bright colors and all. Which means shiny sunglasses. Bright colors! Shirts with fandom things, and cool eyeshadow to match! Over the years I picked up a ton of it - collector's editions, gifts, sales on palettes too pricey to buy otherwise. I had maybe 50 individual colors and 20 or so palletes that covered the entire spectrum of the rainbow.
And I lost all of it in a single day to fiberglass.
If I hadn't had some of my basic makeup and two older palettes still packed away in my zipped up backpack , I'd literally have been forced to start back at square one. As it was, I was at... square three, maybe. I'm still not all the way there - it'll take years to build it all back up fully and a lot of those palettes were irreplaceable. But I've got all that I need to feel like me again, and I think that's what counts.
