The Eclipse
Watched: 22.02.2023
Simplistic symbolism and how being a teenager is actually hard.
A rare case when my brain sees all the flaws, but my heart says: I don’t care. The whole show has a great juvenile charm to it, and the sloppy storytelling and in your face symbolism just adds to it. Sure, I strongly believe that with a few different directing choices this could easily become one of the best BL shows up to date, but even as it is right now, it’s truly enjoyable.
Yes, the setup on the surface is painfully stupid. We are sold the story of this abusive authoritarian school and students fighting for their rights, but what is presented is 3 students not wanting to wear uniforms. Is it that simple? No. It was never about uniforms, it was about self expression and more accurately sexuality.
The uniforms and the rules were supposed to represent the norm in terms of sexuality. Following the rules in school meant following social norms. Suppressing your sexuality to fit with what was established and deemed as "normal". The whole show is a commentary on the conservative and outdated ideas and how they harm the youth. It’s a great subject with a idea on how to present it, but not as good of an execution.
The storytelling was not detailed enough. We are presented with a wall of rules that were established, yet we actually know about only two. What are the others? No idea. What consequences are the students facing if they break the rules? No idea. There is the curse, but that’s it. Where are the parents? The whole adult side of the show is ridiculously unbelievable.
On the other hand, it made perfect sense why the teens were being “overdramatic” - they are teens. Suppression of individuality at the time when it's most crucial to figure yourself out is not really a small thing. The Eclipse did a great job to make me sympathize with the issues these kids were facing and how big of an impact it has on them. From the point of view of an adult, my initial reaction was: why are they so dramatic? Just be patient for the next few months, graduate and move on. But that type of thinking is the issue - if they are told to follow the rules and not question anything now, how will they learn to fight for their rights later? Their actions as teens will shape their behavior, motivations, personalities later on. Nothing really changes as you grow up. First you are told to do what your teachers say, later you are told to listen to your professors. Then you need to follow your bosses instructions. That’s why it’s so important for the youth to ask questions, debate, reflect on the problems and issues and not just do what adults tell them.
For the characters, the leads were phenomenal - both in the writing and portrayal. Seeking validation and purpose. Sticking to the role one obsesses over, because it feels like it's the only thing that defines who we are. The fear of being seen as disappointment. The drama also touches on the subjects of depression and suicide. How we should not judge one’s struggles based on our own standards. How we should be patient with others, because we cannot know and truly understand what they are going through.
What I appreciated the most was the takes on coming out and accepting your sexuality. It’s not the “I don’t like guys, I only like you”. It’s not “everyone is either gay or loves gay”. None of the unrealistic scenarios here. It often takes time to figure yourself out, it takes time to accept what you find, it takes time to then admit it to others. In that aspect I could not like the relationship between Akk and Ayan more. Not to mention one of the best on screen chemistry I have seen in ages.
For the acting, I've been a fan of Khaotung for some time. Realistically speaking, he is one of the best that Thai BLs can offer. I rewatched some scenes simply because of his performance. Thank god First was cast as his co-star, also delivering a solid portrayal.
Production wise I don’t really have complaints. I think some of the setup and directing ideas were too big for the production team, which led to a few questionable and ridiculous takes, but damn the show was pretty.
Overall, I liked it a lot. Yes, the setup and the way they decided to present some serious issues was questionable, but I still believe it was better than the majority of BLs out there. The biggest problem was the transition from rules at school being the issues, to how they relate to the overall social norms and homophobia - it was too jarring. You get the idea behind it all, but you still feel like it’s a bit too disconnected from each other.

Review: Manner of Death (2020)
Tumblr media
Region: Thailand
Aprox. Length: 09h:27m:20s
Viewing Source: Tencent Video
Summary: Dr. Bunnakit is a medical examiner based at a provincial hospital. One day, after carrying out an autopsy on the body of a woman who had seemingly hanged herself, Dr. Bunnakit rules out suicide, as his findings point to homicide. His conclusion suddenly makes him the target of someone very powerful. When an anonymous man breaks into his house and threatens him to change his report to suicide, Dr. Bunnakit doesn't take this threat seriously. But all that changes when one of his friends, a prosecutor, suddenly disappears. Dr. Bunnakit quietly conducts his own investigation in order to get at the truth. All clues lead to one suspect, a man named Tan, who denies any involvement. Tan convinces Dr. Bunnakit to team up together in order to find the real murderer.
Overall Opinion:  One of the strongest things about this show is the mystery element and the raw hate I feel for any and all antagonists. While the initial draw to this series for a lot of people will likely be Max and Tul (as it was for me) I think the story is what really keeps people hooked. You’re never sure who to trust, who to believe, or who might stab you in the back at the last minute, and full honesty I live for it. The BL romance aspect of Manner of Death also blends seamlessly into the overarching plot and anyone who has said that the show feels more like a mystery that just happens to have a MlM romance in it than a traditional Thai BL that just happens to be a murder mystery is completely correct. I think for me a lot of my appreciation stems from Manner of Death handling uncomfortable and ultimately adult situations in an interesting way as well as having a distinctive, almost dreary style that sets it apart from any other Thai BL I’ve watched before. My only suggestion for a potential watcher is to be mindful of any warnings you see at the start of an episode, while there is nothing graphic visually shown, to my memory, the topics and situations alluded to and talked about can get very heavy.
Technical Rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆
Personal Rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆
(See under the cut for a deeper analysis of character/plot/technical aspects. Beware of possible spoilers.)
Main Characters:
Dr. Bun:
Tumblr media
Bun is a character where things just seem to happen to him half of the time. But then the other half is him actively making the worst possible choices to throw himself headfirst into deadly situations. Regardless, he’s a character I enjoy a lot even if at times he can feel a bit clumsy and useless. It only serves to show us just how out of his depth he actually is though, so even when he makes the wrong choice I don’t necessarily feel it makes him a poorly written character. He also actively stands against what he believes is wrong and is written with a strong conviction you feel in the face of all the opposition against him as he’s desperately searching for the truth of what happened to Jane and just what’s going on in the province. In regards to his relationship with Tan I actually really enjoy the fact that the show could have easily just made him immediately fall for him even against his better judgment and instead, outside of his drunken kiss in the first episode, really took the time to bring Bun to his breaking point and finally give in to the chemistry between them and let it happen, all while still not completely trusting Tan. All in all, Bun is a fairly dynamic character who has a vicious streak and needs a bit more sense of self-preservation.
Tan:
Tumblr media
Tan balances being suspicious as hell and pretty much Bun’s only lifeline very well. He’s threatening in some way, by nature of the mystery and plot, but as he’s getting to know Bun more and showing the Dr. different sides of himself Tan is a surprisingly endearing character. It’s clear that he cares about Bun and wants him safe but also needs to keep him in the dark. Tan has a duality I generally enjoy, while also giving off ‘dumber than a rock’ energy at times. (I’m looking at you final episode proposal via gang chase through the woods.) Ultimately one of the more compelling aspects of Tan’s character is the fact that he’s so secretive, and the audience, like Bun, are unsure if we can trust him. He, of course, makes all the wrong choices in order to keep those he cares about safe instead of just telling the truth, but he gets there in the end.
Rating: ★★★★☆
Side Characters:
Inspector M:
Tumblr media
Inspector M is, based on the conversations I’ve had around this show while watching it, almost everyone's fan favorite, and seeing how he fills out that uniform? I can tell why. Jokes about how hot Great Sapol Assawamunkong is in uniform aside, Inspector M is actually a really fantastic character. He’s someone who starts on the "wrong side" but through Bun and Tan’s investigation and continuous pestering, he himself has to face the reality of the corruption in his province. I also love that even when Inspector M is officially on the “good side” he still has an obvious dislike for our leads even though it’s softened slightly. Because of the nature of Inspector M’s character you’re always left wondering until towards the end if he is also in on the corruption among the governing bodies and it’s Great’s performance as the character that really sells it to the audience.
Pued:
Tumblr media
Ah Pued, the start to our more complicated side characters. A big part of Manner of Death is who we trust and how much of the truth that’s been uncovered by Tan and Bun is the truth. I think one thing that the show does fantastically is exploring these characters who can read as more sympathetic while still maintaining that they are bad people. Pued is one of those characters. I still hate him, he’s still a bad person, but you can’t help but understand where he’s coming from with the terrible choices he makes. It’s also nice that he faces terrible consequences even if we’re still left feeling maybe a little conflicted on whether he suffered too much or got off easy for where his actions turned the plot, especially when the motive behind how he's killed isn't exactly the one I personally wish it was.
Rungtiwa:
Tumblr media
This bitch really had me in the first half and the revelation of her treachery is one of the best twists in the show even if it felt a little hard to follow leading up to the explanation. She’s such a background character for most of the show that while you don’t necessarily forget about her, she’s never completely on your radar until the show puts her right in your path. It’s effective for the narrative and while I was cursing her the whole time in the last few episodes I found the reveal highly effective.
Dr. Oat:
Tumblr media
Dr. Oat is, in my opinion, the unsung character of Manner of Death, he is comic relief, a potential red-harring, and an MVP when it comes to keeping our other characters alive. While he’s not as wildly used in the story as I think he could have been I really enjoy the levity he brings to the show as one of the softer characters who is also having to face the reality of the place he lives in and what that means for him as a doctor. I think I would have liked his character more if they’d implemented the same kind of suspicion they’d used for other characters with him. Overall he’s solid and serves his function in the story well. Also, love the cute moment between him and Inspector M in the last episode even though they had maybe a handful of scenes together. Though I suppose saving your life might inspire flirting with anyone.
That:
Tumblr media
That, like Sorn, is a character that is meant to directly reflect another character. For That’s case, he is a mirror of Tan. He is, of course, his own character, but we are meant to draw the parallels between him and the lead and draw on the idea that That likely shows some of the same traits Tan had in his youth, thus filling us in on Tan’s character more. Outside of that, I have no big problems with That’s character. I like how at the start he’s appropriately stand-offish with Sorn and appears to desperately be seen as older and more capable than he is. He’s loyal and I appreciate the way that he can remain distinct within the story.
Sorawit / Sorn:
Tumblr media
Sorn is a similar character to That in terms of what his purpose as a character is, but his counterpart is Dr. Bun. He’s gentle and naive, but wants the truth regarding his friend and will work to get it even at his own expense. Sorn and That’s story is meant to reflect the larger plot and poses a “what if” question to the audience that I thoroughly enjoy. He and That are used as a way to deepen the story while still maintaining their own individuals.
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Story/Plot:
There are so many aspects of this story I really like. The mystery of how Jane died and how it connects back to the larger corruption and mystery of the province is so interesting. We are forced, as many of the characters are, to uncover terrible secret after terrible secret, wondering who we’re meant to trust. There’s also something very interesting about the dark depths the show is willing to go, from the illegal abortion clinic (a moral grey area for many in how it's utilized for the plot), to the sex trafficking, to the police and political corruption there’s no one aspect of vile behavior that doesn’t feed into another. Nothing we’re presented as the audience is there for shock value, it all circles around each other and only serves to further character motivation and a search for where the end of the poison in the province lies.
While Manner of Death isn’t without its tropes I find I don’t have as many problems with them popping up as I might in other shows. Miscommunication or simply not talking is an element the plot has to rely on and makes sense within the context of the story. Bun wouldn’t trust Tan if he knew he does work for the local gang and Tan needs Bun to trust him because Bun is the only one actively putting himself in the line of fire trying to get the truth about Jane. The plot feels very condensed to the cast, each revelation has a resounding effect on each of them.
There were some moments, most choices that Tan makes, that made me want to pull out my hair, but ultimately it’s the frustration from those choices that keep you hooked. Locking Bun to the stair post? A terrible choice! Especially when you get almost murdered in the process and can’t actually go unlock him only to then unlock him and explain you both now need to fake your own deaths. It’s dramatic, highly unnecessary, but also, given everything we know about Bun, probably the only thing that would have worked to get him to stay put. Convincing your boyfriend that he’s being pursued by someone possibly acting in retaliation to you scooping the corruption out of your town only for you to end up at gunpoint and then because told “psych this is actually a marriage proposal,” Tan what the hell were you thinking?! In the fact of the rest story, it’s honestly the most baffling moment but god if it wasn’t entertaining.
Overall I really enjoy the story of Manner of Death and appreciate that it really feels like the main focus is on the mystery instead of the romance. It’s well balanced, has great twists, and satisfying villain reveals.
Rating: ★★★★☆
Technical/Visual Execution:
Technical/Visual Execution: One thing I really like about Manner of Death from a visual standpoint is that it is stylized, everything is muted colors, greys and greens, and dull rainy vibes. A lot of the time Thai BL are very flat in color or overly bright but Manner of Death chose a visual style that really reflects the dreary and seedy material it covers. Outside of that, I think it’s well produced in terms of editing and shooting.
Rating: ★★★★☆

My Husband in Law: Thai Drama Review
As a major fan of It Started with a Kiss and Fated to Love You, I was immediately drawn to the premise of My Husband in Law. Kiss of the Cobra/The Serpent's Tale
Tumblr media
[There really aren't any good pictures to post..sorry]
Episodes: 28
Country: Thailand
Air Date: February 10, 2020 - March 26, 2020
Synopsis: 500 years ago, the snake queen goddess was condemned to burn to death by her lover Prince Chaiyawong. Present day, she awaits for her lover to return to punish him for a love debt that he owes and vows vengeance upon Maneewan, the woman who stole her lover's heart.
My Rating: 5/10
My Review:
So originally starting this out I was excited and enjoyed it. However, as it drug on there were parts that were really slow, parts that had a lot of plot holes. I feel like it was a solid idea just not necessarily executed in the best way.
The acting: there are some good actors, some decent ones, and then there's the girl that plays Yaimai. Look, I know that everyone has to practice and get better but everything she did was so fake and unrealistic. Her "crying" and being in pain were so unbelievable. To be honest, she played being possessed by Anyawadee better than she played the actual character Yaimai. There were decent and good actors in this as well but overall it was just really mediocre at best.
The soundtrack….was…. nonexistent really. They had like 1 song that was the "title" song and that was played for everything.
Special Effects: Eh…I've seen worse but I have also definitely seen better. Think "Anaconda" but worse lol. It was okay though, it wasn't so bad that it took away from the show or anything.
It's certainly not worth a rewatch. However, I feel like this might be some people's type of show. I enjoyed it but I can certainly get most people not enjoying it. It's got a mountain of flaws but if you look past it, at the core, it's really not a bad show and actually kind of worth the watch. It at the very least has good messages to it.

This Week in BL - 2 GREAT Shows but everything else is kinda blah
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top. Happy new year, BLabies!
Jan 2024 Wk 1
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
Last Twilight (Fri YT) ep 9 of 12 - This show is really earning its chops, and these actors are executing beautifully. I think this is a great BL, and it reminds me quite a bit of ATOTS, only the physical comfort between the actors is more genuine and easy to watch. Unfortunately a guitar came out. Nice communication tho.
That was a very lovely romantic sex scene. Very prettily done. Classy boys, very classy.
Tumblr media
Gah what a beautiful final scene with Day saying the last thing he wants to see is Mhork. Pure unadulterated romance of the highest order.
The Sign (Sat YT) ep 7 of 12 - If killer, why hot? Poor Tarn compelled to try to rescue everyone else from their fate, because he cannot save himself from his.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile Phaya is finally learning that you catch more water snakes with honey lube than vinegar.
Stellar confession from Phaya brutally honest and very fated mates.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And another lovely sex scene, so I guess that was a vision and not a fantasy Tharn had.
Tumblr media
Lets be clear those two shows were GREAT everything else this week was kinda blah.
For Him (Thurs iQIYI) ep 6 of 12 - I find the backstory very odd. Are they twins? What happened to Blue? Am I meant to care? Do I care?
Twins the series (Fri GaGa) ep 10 of 12 - I mostly just feel sorry for First. He’s so rightfully confused. Zee/Sprite keeps blowing hot and cold because they two different people! The after sex cuddle was cute.
Pit Babe (Fri iQIYI) ep 8 of 14 - Love getting more JeffAlan. Also I switch favorite character allegiances in the trash watch happening here.
Tumblr media
Cooking Crush (Sun YT) ep 6 of 12 - Didn’t air this week and I hardly noticed.
You and My Stars YT 1 of 2(?) - school kids, love triangle, it’s cute enough.
My Universe (Sun iQIYI) 1626 ep 20 of 24 - Just so boring. 3/10
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
VIP Only (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 8 of 10 - I’m not into the love triangle. Although I kind of like the new suitor, he’s honest and a good communicator. I appreciate these things in a BL boy. But I begin to wonder if triangles should be left for KBL. Also, this should have been an 8 epper, 10 is too long.
Sahara-sensei to Toki-kun (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 5 of 8 - No ep until Jan 12
I Became the Main Role of a BL (Japan Sun Gaga) ep 1-3 - AKA BL Drama no Shuen ni Narimashita: Crank Up Hen - A rising star is paired with an (older) former child actor (doesn’t think he’s good enough) in a BL series. It’s fun, built on a dynamic of off screen paralleling the on screen, so near constantly meta. All the tropes are there but are as a result of the filming process. The star turns out to be obsessed with the former actor and very dorky about it. In fact, everyone in this show is a little gremlin weirdo (affectionate). There’s tons of scenery chewing miscommunication drama, slapstick, voice over head hopping, and eccentric sides characters. “And he comes with feathers” applies to a number of my friends. You know I don’t like stories around fan obsession, but otherwise this was enjoyable. 8/10
A nice start to the JBL year. Keep em coming, Japan.
Tumblr media
It's done I Need to Catch up
What Did You Eat Yesterday Season 2 AKA Kinou Nani Tabeta? Season 2 (Japan Gaga) 10 eps - will binge when I have a spare day.
Tumblr media
It's Airing But...
[INTERNATIONAL] Cherry Magic (Sat YouTube) ep 3 of 12 - yeah Japan put the smack down on our boys. Sadness. You can use a VPN if you like. Read all about it here.
Playboyy (Thurs Gaga) 14 eps - Dear Playboyy, it's not you, it’s me… I hate you. You’re about as deep (and as palatable) as a shot glass of cum. While I'm sure you’re someone’s kink, you're my weakest link. Goodbye. I DNFed this at ep 5. Frankly I'm impressed with myself for getting that far.
Night Dream (Sat YT) 6 eps - It’s a pain to track down and I really didn’t like the first episode so… DNF
The Whisperer (Sun ????) 10 eps - Thai horror BL that ALSO involves cheating (what joy is mine). I don't think even the perfect single dimple can motivate me to watch. Word is... it's terrible.
7 Days Before Valentine (Weds WeTV) 10 eps - Giving me Luminous Solution vibes. I'm waiting to binge if safe.
Dead Friend Forever (Thai Sat iQIYI) - horror, meh, tell me if it's worth my time?

1/11 Although I Love You and You AKA Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yaro ka (Japan Gaga) - Soga, who, after a divorce and relocation to Osaka, seeks solace in dining at 26-year-old Sakae's restaurant. Unbeknownst to Soga, Sakae sees him as more than just a regular customer.
More Coming Jan 2024
Beside You (Thai YouTube)
Love For Love's Sake (Korea ????)- based on the Manhwa ‘Love Supremacy Zone’ by Hwacha. A young man is dropped into a game based off a novel he loves. His mission is to make another player, YeoWoon happy. But then the game starts unfolding completely different from the novel.

Blank the Series: The Novel vs The Show
After finally sitting down and reading the source material for the series, I must admit that I had expected it to be more provocative. However, to me, it was more like reading a soft-core erotica - nothing too outrageous. I hesitate to even classify it as soft-core, but that’s the best way I can describe it. Of course, anything involving BDSM is bound to stand out.
Despite my initial reservations, I found myself engaged in the love story between Khun Nueng and Anueng. The story, although a bit too PG-13 for my taste, held my attention. In my analysis of the series, I primarily focused on the character interactions, their internal struggles, insecurities, and how these factors influenced their actions and decisions.
Being a crone, I naturally gravitated towards examining Khun Nueng’s character more closely, as I found her to be the most relatable. However, I must acknowledge that Anueng is a well-developed character as well. She serves as a reminder that, regardless of age, individuals can possess cunning and resourcefulness.
While Anueng may appear childish around Khun Nueng in the series, after reading the novel, I gained a deeper understanding of why she expresses herself in such an over-the-top and annoying manner. It’s because she wants to elicit a reaction from Khun Nueng, as it seems to be the only way to make her “look more human” or act like it. In the novel, Khun Nueng rarely shows facial reactions unless she’s prompted to do so, which Anueng does often. Otherwise, Khun Nueng would simply hide behind her stoic mask all the time.
Interestingly, Khun Nueng’s go-to response to anyone expressing a romantic interest in her is, “Are you worthy of me?” as a tactic of scaring them away. This phrase serves as her motto, even though she doesn’t have any specific criteria for determining who would be worthy of her love, mainly because she has never truly loved anyone. So, when Anueng challenges this line by asserting, “I’m not today, but I will become worthy,” it deeply shocks our ice queen, both in the novel and in the series. It’s something she never expected.
As I’ve mentioned before, Khun Nueng finds herself in quite a bit of trouble because she has met her match in Anueng. They are contrasting yet compatible characters, and that’s what I find intriguing. They possess similarities that draw them closer together while also reflecting their deepest flaws. In a striking revelation, I realized their insecurities were actually quite similar, but in reverse. Anueng becomes jealous because of her insecurities about being young and not having much to offer, constantly worrying that Khun Nueng might end up with someone her own age who has a more established life. On the other hand, Khun Nueng frets about being too old and the possibility of the young girl eventually growing bored with her, changing her mind, and leaving.
Khun Nueng exhibits striking similarities to her grandmother, both in the series and in the novel. They share an icy demeanor, a controlling nature, and a toxic fixation on perfectionism. Despite leaving behind her privileged status, these traits have carried over into her more humble life as an artist. I now understand that her choice to rebel against her grandmother was not all simply out of spite, but a deliberate decision to assert her own identity.
While Khun Nueng desires her grandmother to acknowledge her responsibility for Song’s death and their collective suffering, she also longs to discover her true self. Above all else, Khun Nueng yearns to experience a wider range of emotions. She craves the taste of disappointment, having never truly felt loved or experienced the exhilaration of a racing heart. In the show, she exemplifies this by placing her hand over her heart and feeling it race in the presence of Anueng.
Khun Nueng lacks ambition. Although she pursues a career as an artist to sustain herself, she does not envision it as a long-term path. She wishes to continue using her artistic talents, but without the constraints of working for someone else. Her yearning for freedom outweighs any financial concerns, despite her constant struggle to make ends meet. In fact, Khun Nueng embraces the hardships that come with being a “starving artist.” Her upbringing with her grandmother shielded her from feelings of disparity and anguish, making the challenges she faces now exhilarating rather than burdensome.
Khun Nueng remains unimpressed by materialism and possesses a practical approach to life. She values essentials like food over fancy clothes, which captivate Anueng in the novel. Khun Nueng refuses to let those who flaunt their status and wealth sway her, as she cannot be bought.
Overall, Khun Nueng’s character is complex and multi-faceted. Her resemblance to her grandmother, with her stoic demeanor, her secret pursuit for emotional depth, her lack of ambition, and her indifference towards status all contribute to her unique persona.
While watching the series, I noticed that the first episode started the story at a much later scene from the novel. In this scene, the characters were already familiar with each other. Initially, I was confused because I wondered why Khun Nueng walked the girl to the bus-stop and knew which bus Anueng needed to get on. The wordplay exchange between them, especially with Anueng stating she was running away and asking to stay with Khun Nueng, added to my confusion.
As I continued watching, around episode 2 or 3, I noticed the girl had a lot of drawings that Khun Nueng had made for her. Being the analytical person that I am, I figured they must have met multiple times before. My confirmation of this came later when I read the story.
To explain Khun Nueng’s constant worry for the girl’s safety and her habit of always walking her to the bus stop, we found out that since the day they met, Khun Nueng had discreetly made sure Anueng got home safely at late hours. She would even follow Anueng from a distance to her house. From day one, our favorite dead-face character had been the protector, constantly concerned about the girl’s well-being.
I would like to highlight the similarities between Khun Nueng and her younger sister, Sam. However, before discussing their similarities, it is important to address the issues that arise between siblings. The reason Khun Nueng behaves more like their grandmother is because she received the most attention from her. Sam acknowledges this fact, admitting that although both of them were loved by their grandmother, she never had her undivided attention. This observation became clear to me while watching Gap the Series, as Sam was the one who received the least amount of attention. This dynamic only changed when Khun Nueng left and after Song passed away.
Even until the very end of their grandmother’s life, Sam tried to convey this, trying to get Khun Nueng to reconcile with their grandmother. Episode 6 showcased their close relationship, despite their occasional conflicts. I also understand the perspective of sibling favoritism, as Khun Nueng received the most scrutiny and was molded by their grandmother to potentially take her place in the future. This is why I see such striking similarities between Khun Nueng and their grandmother. However, Sam and Khun Nueng are undeniably similar as siblings. Sam has a tendency to express her jealousy openly, while Khun Nueng displays it in a manner that is passive-aggressive. Both of them struggle to admit their jealousy and have a tendency to hurt their partners in the process, as they refuse to acknowledge their own flaws and weaknesses.
Sam undergoes a transformation. We witnessed her growth in Gap the Series, and in Blank the Series, we see Sam attempting to show her love for Mon by baking a pie from scratch. This action surprised Khun Nueng, especially considering she could have easily purchased one from a top-tier bakery. However, Sam wanted to infuse her love into the pie.
We observe a similar act of love in episode 6, but this time it is Khun Nueng cooking home-cooked meals for Anueng instead of going out to eat. This is why I concluded by saying, “Girl... you are lying to yourself.” Cooking for someone is an incredibly personal gesture, and I don’t do it for just anyone. Therefore, I know fully that she constantly deceives herself.
In conclusion, the novel and the series share many similarities. Although there were some necessary omissions and alterations to the timeline and character interactions, I hope these changes will be seamlessly integrated in season 2, maintaining the steady pacing that has been established. Based on the first 6 episodes, I have a sense of what elements they might keep and what they may change. However, I do hope that they don’t stray too far from the meaningful aspects of the original source material, which I won’t go into detail about. I must acknowledge that the novel was clever in incorporating elements that kept me engaged until a satisfying conclusion. Therefore, if I see these same qualities in the series, I will be truly impressed, and the show will prove itself to be deserving of my attention.
I appreciate the good content.
Thank you.

Dead Friends Forever Q&A-Style Review
I listen to a movie podcast called The Rewatchables, and they have interesting categories that I want to examine this series through.
Most rewatchable scene: It has to be the last one, because we've been talking about it nonstop since it aired. Plus, it lives in my head, rent-free, like Non is haunting me. Like WE failed him. 😱
Tumblr media
But since I'm a BL girlie, who loves a well-crafted sex scene, I also have to include both of Phee and Jin's high-heat moments when Phee's trying to seduce him on the balcony and when they have rough sex in Jin's room. I'm not gonna lie: That was some king shit on Ta's end.
Best quote: "No one could leave this abandoned house — not even one." Come on! It foretold the surreal ending and fulfilled the victim's wishes. Gold.
Tumblr media
What aged the best? The way that even the bullies perceived teacher Keng as a groomer, who took advantage of a desperate child — that will most definitely make that subplot still bearable even a decade from now.
What's aged the worst? The unaliving and SA montage in the finale that some have said was insensitive/irresponsible to have included. It was like trigger after trigger after trigger — practically a machine gun of traumatic scenes. The fandom could sincerely organize a class action lawsuit against the writer and director for them to pay for our therapy bills.
Scene-stealing location: The lake. Such a beautiful setting for romance, betrayal, and revenge. 😈
Best shot: Definitely the one of Tan from above when he's successfully drugged all of his victims. Iconic.
Tumblr media
Are we sure this person is good at their job? Tee's uncle. The fact that he has so much riding on two teenagers is ridiculous. He didn't just start being a con man / mob boss that week. How does he not have a more stable criminal infrastructure at this point?
Best use of food and drink: Obviously, Tan spiking the beverages, knowing it would be the easiest way to poison everyone.
Was there a better title? Absolutely not. The play on the phrase "Best Friends Forever," an archaic term popularized in the '90s that puts way too much pressure on kids to find their kindred spirit and hold on to them through adolescence and adulthood, was inspired. It truly encompassed the impossibility of it all. There are just so many obstacles ahead of you, like peer pressure, family obligations, love triangles, bullying, ego, insecurity, and cowardice, that it's a lofty promise to make when you've barely finished puberty. Plus, it kind of hints at the ending...
Overacting award: Some could argue Barcode, but part of his performance was meant to be surreal, because it was in the dream state. I, personally, vote Jet (Top). Sometimes I felt like his character was in an entirely different, far more slapstick genre.
The "That Guy" Award: This category is for the actor/famous person you see all the time, but don't know the name of. I noticed a lot of people were excited to see Perth, so I "saw him all the time" on my feed. When I Googled him, that's when I learned that he was on a reality show with other Be On Cloud stars.
Tumblr media
Scene-Stealer (with very few scenes): Honestly, whichever extra/stunt double they had wearing that mask, freaking us out. The most memorable of which was when its creepy hand groped Tee.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Recasting couch:
I think Nanon (Bad Buddy) could've been interesting as the tormented Tan, because we would've bought his innocence longer.
It could've added to the mystery if we had the BL twins, AJ and JJ, confuse the narrative.
I would watch Neo in almost anything at this point, and he could've played the morally conflicted Tee as he showcased those skills already in Only Friends.
A younger Mark (Last Twilight) would've fit so well into this cast. He plays lost and guilty quite well.
Picking Nits: This category is for pointing out things that just don't add up.
Why didn't Phee's cop dad have more questions about his son's behavior and activities after he saw who his son was involved with?
What teenager is fine going somewhere that has no wifi or reception? Even I wouldn't do that and I've had wifi as long as these characters have been alive.
Why was Non, a teenager, being medicated for mental health issues, but not being monitored by a mental health professional?
If Tee's uncle didn't want to be at a loss if Non died unexpectedly, then why didn't he let him get his wounds treated and get some rest? Unless the plan was always to harvest his organs, which would still have merited rest. Nobody wants shitty organs.
Unanswerable Questions
If Jin and Phee survived, would they have got back together?
If Non were alive, would Phee have ditched Jin?
What did they do with Non's body?
And, of course, after succeeding: Does Tan recover from his grief and move on with his life? Does he successfully escape arrest? Does he leave behind evidence of what the boys did to his family to further persecute them in death? Is his revenge plot really over...?
That was fun! Tag me if you answer the same Qs.

My School President
Watched: 24.02.2023
Chemistry that truly carries the whole show.Honestly speaking, this is not a special drama in terms of the plot - the light enemies to frenemies to friends to lovers has been done many times, but it’s undeniable the execution here was amazing. Gemini and Fourth are truly the best new BL actors out there.
I have to say, both Tinn and Gun are perfectly written. Tinn has this amazingly goofy side of him that you cannot ignore, you just adore it. Gun is just a walking charm. It’s not all sweet though, and both the characters struggle with some internal issues, but are able to support each other in the best ways possible.
The relationship is simply wholesome. I loved how Tinn was focusing on Gun’s happiness and not just about his goal of dating him. I loved that they actually had a lot of nice conversations and tried to understand each other. I loved the mutual support. With the oversaturation in the BL industry with questionable and toxic stories, this level of understanding and mutual respect was simply refreshing to watch.
That’s for the main couple, what about the side ones? Sadly a bit of a failure. Either the chemistry was just not quite there, or the setup and progression was barely existing. Did I care about any of the side characters? Honestly - no.
Can we also just shortly talk about the mothers in this show? I could not be more happy with what we’ve got. Both Tinn’s and Gun’s mom are amazing in their own way. The drama perfectly showcases how good communication with your child is what builds trust and makes them want to confide in you for support, share their happiness and be honest about their struggles. Sometimes it’s important to take the initiative, but sometimes you have to give your child space and time and let them speak when they are ready, and not when you want to hear the answers.
Tinn's dad too, great person, I wish we got to see more of him.
The plot was great, but I also got a bit bored at some point. I still enjoyed all the adorable moments as I was watching, but I also had to motivate myself to start the episodes in the first place. This show was 90% fluff and 10% content (yes, this is an exaggeration, don’t sue me for it). And with that ratio it should be maybe 8 and not 12 episodes.
That said, there was one thing I will never complain about, no matter how many times it will happen even just as a filler fluff - good hugs. Hugs are underappreciated. Hugs are amazing. Proper hug on screen is at times better than kissing scenes. Melt into these arms and give us all butterflies! My School President definitely delivered in that area.
Fourth’s acting, his cheeky smile and warm gaze… Can we even ask for more? Yes we can, and we got it all - from the light and funny scenes, to more emotional and raw expressions, this boy delivered it all. Gemini also does great with acting. Surprised how well he does subtle comedy. For the rest of the cast - some did better, some did worse. We got the glorious “no tears just squeezing eyes hard” scene.
Production side of it was great. I am so happy to see the improvement in that aspect in the BL industry and the effort in making the show deliver a good storytelling both in writing and in the visual aspects.
Overall, the purest of the fluff. On screen chemistry that will make you jealous of not experiencing it yourself. Great main characters with fun personalities and relatable stories. But sadly also forgettable side characters and subplots there just to feel the screen time and overall repetitiveness of the story.

Review: My Engineer (2020)
Tumblr media
My Engineer
Region: Thailand
Approx. Runtime: 11h:43m:44s (14 eps.)
Viewing Source: YouTube
Summary: When Bohn, the popular engineering student, starts a revenge plan on Duen, the innocent first-year medical student, their feelings slowly start to grow through roses that Duen has to buy for Bohn every day for a month.
Overall Opinion: In terms of Thai BLs, My Engineer falls in line with the masses as your typical college romance starring one engineering student and one non-engineering student where the main couple starts off with some animosity for one another until it inevitably shifts into romance. That being said, what really sets this show apart from the others is the side couples. I know the standard joke for Thai BLs is that the side pair is always more interesting than the main pair, and I’m not normally one to agree, however, in My Engineer’s case, that is 100% correct. The two side couples, are for me, what saves the show and elevates it above where it might land otherwise. My Engineer is probably one of my favorite slice-of-life style BLs that I think, if you can make it through the trope-heavy and paint-by-numbers elements of the main couple, anyone can find themselves thoroughly enjoying.
Technical Rating:  ★★★★★★★☆☆☆
Personal Rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆
(See under the cut for a deeper analysis of character/plot/technical aspects. Beware of possible spoilers.)
Main Characters:
Bohn:
Tumblr media
Bohn is your standard slightly egotistical trouble-making popular boy who is very full of himself and needs a good dose of humility to even his attitude out. He’s a bit of a spoiled kid and not above using manipulation to get what he wants. We see that very clearly in episode 1. It’s only really later in the show after he’s been rebuffed and denied by Deun multiple times that he seems to try a bit harder to not be such a child but it doesn’t feel completely earned because we know it’s all in an attempt to get and keep Deun appeased. He’s not a bad character or a bad guy, but he’s not someone with a lot of depth. I think until we see Bohn outside of the context of his relationship with Deun he’ll always fall a little flat for me. I will say that he has these moments of sincerity, like after saving Deun's sister and attempting to get Deun the book he needs for his paper, which I appreciate because it saves his character from seeming entirely self-serving.
Deun:
Tumblr media
Deun is a character I think some people could misunderstand as being a weaker character at face value, but from the get, we are presented with a character who legitimately holds nearly all the power in his relationship and interactions with Bohn, outside the initial bet that is. From the moment he punches Bohn in the nose, Deun rejects him, has him complete multiple challenges, and really doesn’t try all that hard to get his friends to stop from setting him through the four tasks later in the show. However, I think what makes him more interesting than Bohn is that we have a better understanding of where those choices and actions come from. Particularly I think Deun’s relationship with his father and wanting to keep his father happy is what motivates a lot of his choices and also presents him as a character who holds himself back, especially when it comes to accepting Bohn’s feelings for him.
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Side Characters:
Mek:
Tumblr media
Mek is one of my favorite characters, possibly because I think that Ryan plays him so well. He embodies the pinning best friend with his silent acceptance of Boss giving attention to Fon and the choice he makes that he’d rather have Boss as a friend and never reveal his feelings rather than risk losing Boss at all is played very close to the chest. I think most of us have been in a similar situation in our lives and that makes Mek’s character in my opinion one of the most relatable in the show. He is also a character who constantly makes sacrifices for Boss’s perceived happiness and I think it just adds to his character when he has those silent moments of watching as Boss gets further and further from him, often with his own help. It makes the conclusion of them getting together all the sweeter, especially when until the very end he was willing to put Boss first no matter what.
Boss:
Tumblr media
Boss is a simple character. He doesn’t have as much depth as Mek, but there are little moments where you are left wondering, before the reveal, if he is also in love with his best friend. I think the explanation in this questioning is that Boss is a character who is always looking to be in the spotlight, to be noticed, and I think that stems from his belief that Mek doesn’t feel or see him the same way (that he's even inferior to Mek), so he’s looking for that attention he craves anywhere he can, but is always coming up a bit short. Then Fon comes along and validates those feelings he’s been looking for but ultimately isn’t willing to put him first like Mek always is. While Boss doesn’t stand apart as a character on his own, when he's mirroring Mek in their relationship he’s a strong contender because he leaves the audience wondering like he often leaves Mek wondering if he’s in love with the other or not.
Ram:
Tumblr media
Ram is a character who says little but expresses himself rather well. Now, part of this is because, to my knowledge, at the time Perth was still in the process of learning Thai and the character has very little in way of dialogue, but regardless, the effect of Ram’s silent communication adds a layer of mystery to his character that only helps in the scenes where he’s left having to show his emotions. For instance, after confronting his father's affair and leaning on King for comfort the moment has so much more impact because he’s showing rather than telling, as well as at the end of the season when he’s having to confront King and deal with the fall out of the other boy’s confession. Ram is a character whose strength comes from a silent understanding where it’s not that he doesn’t speak because he doesn’t like to but more that he speaks only when there are important things to say. Actions over words is Ram in a nutshell and Perth plays that exceptionally well.
King:
Tumblr media
King is a much subtler character, out of everyone in the cast he and Ram are seemingly the most mature and therefore he is a more cautious person with his feelings. He has a strange duality of feeling open and bright but also internalizing so much. This is most notable in the last few episodes while he’s dealing with his head wound, simultaneously wanting to be around Ram but then pushing the other boy away when Ram tries to help. He feels like someone who can’t or simply won’t rely on others and would rather be seen as the dependable one than someone who needs assistance. Unfortunately we mostly have to view King through his interactions with Ram and are given more context clues to his character rather than able to draw concrete character traits about him.
Frong:
Tumblr media
Frong, at the start of the show, is mostly relegated to Bohn’s love rival but I was glad to see that he was given a bit more to work with towards the end of the series with his sick mother side plot and the budding relationship between him and Thara. Unfortunately, because of lack of screen time, we’re not given much to dive into with him. We know that he’s popular at the school and that he cares about his remaining family deeply, due to the loss of his father, so I’m left to wonder towards the end if his growing affection for Thara isn’t out of some kind of thankfulness for the help and treatment he provided for his mother.
Thara:
Tumblr media
Thara is another character that didn’t get much screen time. Through all the interactions with him, we know that he’s a kind person who wants to see others happy but we don’t know if that’s necessarily at the expense of himself as we never truly see him struggle. He’s also a little kookie with his pet lizard. He’s an oddball who seems a bit disconnected from the way others might feel about him and I’m interested to see how his character could be explored more in season 2.
Rating: ★★★★☆
Story/Plot:
(Because for BLs the plots are often times couple based, I've decided that I would break up the plot analysis by couples, excluding Thara and Frong because, in my opinion, their overall story is still developing and I couldn't think of much to add in regards to it.)
BohnDuen:
The main plot we follow with Bohn and Duen is fairly standard for a slice-of-life BL. Boy meets boy, a situation is created in which they now need to spend time together, hijinks, miscommunication, and eventually romance ensues. It’s very standard and a little boring most of the time, though upon a second viewing I did find myself more interested in their characters and less annoyed at the paint-by-numbers feel of their romance progression. That being said, they use the miscommunication and “he’ll reluctantly fall for me eventually” trope a bit too much in my opinion. It adds artificial drama to the situation that could be more character-driven if we got a chance to see them interact more sincerely with one another. Low points in their storyline for me are when Bohn sets Deun up to be very uncomfortable at the restaurant in the first episode, the IRL fanfiction dilemma in episode 9, though I do think it brought up an interesting conversation about the “roles” that are expected to be fulfilled in a MlM relationship that I wish the characters could have had outside of a comedic setting, and any time they use Bohn’s possessive/jealousness as a point of contention for their relationship. An interesting point that I think could be explored in season 2 (when or if it’s finally released) will be Duen’s dad and his reaction to their relationship, since that seems to be one of the biggest reasons Duen is reluctant to be Bohn… well aside from Bohn himself. In every interaction with Deun and his father, there's always this push for Deun to fulfill the "manly" expectations of his gender, so I think having to confront his son's relationship with another man will be very interesting and likely very angsty.
MekBoss:
A pining best friends story is something I will always be able to get behind and with Mek and Boss it’s done so well I have basically nothing to complain about aside from perhaps their awkward as hell only kiss in the series, though you can argue one of them is drunk and the other is at his wit's end. From the start, Mek’s pining over Boss is on point and translates very well for the audience to see and we follow him through each moment as he sabotages his own happiness in order to help Boss try and obtain his own until eventually he just can’t anymore. One could complain about the Fon and Boss plotline but I think it only adds to the situation in a realistic way. Mek refuses to admit he’s in love with his best friend and in doing so has to help Boss “get the girl.” Even at the end, after the two finally admit their feelings for one another and seemingly get together there’s one last moment of “miscommunication” with Fon that threatens to pull them apart, but the show doesn’t let it drag out unnecessarily and it’s a rare case of me not minding the inclusion of it, since Fon has been the wedge in their potential relationship almost the entire show, it feels like a correct ending and the last hurdle that Boss and Mek need to overcome in order to really solidify their relationship. That and of course Boss making sure everyone at the volunteer camp knows they're together too.
RamKing:
Ram and King have the relationship I truly wish that My Engineer had focused on. They have a much more subtle and natural progression towards their romance that I think is only able to be achieved because they don’t have to follow the same beats as the main couple often has to, down to the ending where their status is still up in the air even after King’s drunken confession and their shared kiss. It's this pacing that really sets the tone for this couple and sets them apart from the others in a great way. There are a few tropes here and there but they don’t take away from their budding relationship and story as much as they add to it, such as the opposites attract aspects of their relationship like Ram being a dog person and King being terrified of them. We hardly see the two interact together around other like they do in private and it serves to keep their relationship in a bubble, adding to some of the more charged moments. It also, in my opinion, gives an explanation for King's reluctance towards their relationship shifting towards romance, as we know he wants it to. One of the only silly things I can really say I think could have been rewritten is the crazy homeless man hitting King and causing his head injury. If it had been able to be rewritten I would have liked it better I think. However, the situation around the homeless man whacking him is a very good character moment for him, as the catalyst is King attempting to keep him away from the tied-up dog, thus showing his attempt at growth past his fear and his further connection with Ram.
Rating: ★★★★☆
Technical/Visual Execution:
Aside from some choice shots, such as the garden house scene between Ram and King, and the final two episodes (also predominantly the scenes between Ram and King), I don’t think My Engineer has much in the visual category to really write home about. It’s filmed well, and in even though Mek is voiced over the entire time, and Deun’s wig is fighting for its life, those elements are also handled well enough that they don’t detract from the viewing experience even when they're more obvious. Overall My Engineer, from a filming and editing standpoint, is a typical affair for the genre that I can’t really pick out too many glaring faults with, though I can’t say it was really trying to be a masterpiece the entire time either.
Rating: ★★★☆☆

My first impression for GMMTV 2024 projects:
Ossan's Love Thailand: Let's just say, first one is instant skip for me, though I am still excited to watch Earth and Mix in something I'll enjoy. I probably should go and watch Cupid's Last Wish instead xD Japanese comedy that is transferred in a Thailand comedy make me fear for my life, to be honest (my tolerance for physical comedy is unfortunately very low). But good luck to EarthMix though, they'll get to play some funky roles, hope they'll have fun!
Leap Day: Woah! It looks very intense and very interesting already. Pond and Dew (who I dearly love since High School series) in a very dark and mystical thriller(?). It's not BL but I love unique plots with darker vibes. Also Gun playing autistic guy (who also gives off creepy vibes because the entire trailer is creepy)? Sign me up twice! I'm going to be checking it out for sure.
The Heart Killers: First and Khaotung wanted to play a cute sweet romcom after all the depressing and dark and difficult characters and tears, right? Well, they also wanted to play mafia or gang roles so I guess that gave Jojo the right to make a ASSASSINS ROM-COM, why not!xD This man is the only one I go for when I want something very refreshing, unusual, gritty, that has flawed and underground characters, weapons and high stakes. It'll probably fumble the ending but I'm definitely going to be here for my Assassin x Tattoo Artist Firstkhao. Also it'll be my introduction to JoongDunk. Second to the top of series I'm excited about!
Friendshit Forever: I actually had to double take because GMM surely loves puns in their titles, right? xD I thought this would be GL but it seems like a very intense friendship-betrayal story, seems like girl actors are able to pull it off and New is going to get caught up between them, sounds interesting but again, not my type of story. Still, points for the shit in the title lol
Perfect10Liners: I literally have 3 couples that I am familiar with because I saw them in other shows, and they all play Thai engineers, and I still have no desire to watch this show? Somehow?! I don't know why but I feel like the writing is not solid at all. Or the premise. I'm not sure what's this show is even about, beside a silly university romcom. I am already craving something more interesting, I'm sorry guys.
Us: I ONLY HAD EMI AND BONNIE FOR ONE MINUTE AND I DON'T WANT TO LET THEM GO! I mean, new discoveries?! This trailer is filmed beautifully, first of all. The acting is already great (also hello, Sing, my beloved!) and the girls have chemistry (I might have a little crush on Emi already). Anyway. I am still waiting for GL that'll be my cup of tea, I hope this will be one.
Hide & Sis: I really enjoy the vibes, the three sisters look badass (and I adore Piploy and Lookjun and Jan), it's very unusual to see Chimon in this role, Gawin continues his police officer streak, but THAT NAME! Who decided on a name for this series and why?xD Probably not going to watch but I give it a stamp of approval.
ThamePo (Heart that skips a beat): Oh! I enjoy idol stories, though I haven't seen many, but I'm always intrigued how shows like this could display the backstage and the complications that come with different positions and spotlight. And thank god GMMTV used their actual boygroup to play idols! And didn't just try to teach actors to dance. I don't know main two actors but they seem to have good chemistry as well?! I'm intrigued.
Break Up Service: I'm all for Off in a very sketchy role (Midnight Motel type of sketchy, only with even higher stakes?xD) but the overall genre is probably not my thing.
Revamp The Undead: I'm sorry but all I know about BounPrem is that these are guys from another agency who desperately wanted to have vampire BL for years or something xD Glad to see the wish being fulfilled! I love how the teaser was filmed, and the plot has a big potential. Don't know the cast but might tune it to check out! Also my guy Kay is here being bad!! (I am collecting my HS gang over all lakorns)
Sweet Tooth Good Dentist: Sorry but I'm going to be mourning Mark Pakin's talent being wasted on series like that x) I don't know the other guy Ohm, sorry, but such romantic comedy where Mark's character is a weirdo and simply falls in love with the client (how was he not fired on the spot) doesn't really intrigue me... But at least it's a step up from his (amazing) side roles.
The Dark Dice: Ooh! I love psychological thrillers and this honestly reminded me of Cube, I just didn't expect Gemini to be the main lead. As someone who watched Gifted, High School and similar shows, this is right up my alley. Very curious to check out and I hope they'll do something deep with it beside a simple mystery.
The Ex Morning: I might be biased but I just knew they would be the last one, what everyone's been waiting for. It's hilarious to think that the plot is based on Krist and Singto's actual lives but I trust P'Aof to write compelling characters and relationships. Also I probably will sigh with relief already because he's one of the very few writers that actually write a complete story with a nice and believable (and not hurried) ending. And I really want KS to come back with a bang, just like TayNew did with Cherry Magic. GMM going exes back to lovers will be very interesting to watch, and Krist Singto grew as actors so much. I'm very excited!
Overall, I'm happy to see GMMTV choosing to try a lot more mystical or dark stories than before, way less school students and also most of these BL stories are about adults! Woah! Finally! The audience is mostly grown up as well, thankfully they realized it. And their announced project about accepting stories and plot from the fans, as well as Interactive Game project by GMM, I wonder how that'll look like.
It's funny how last year I was thinking about making my webcomics and visual novel games with GMM actors and I didn't push through because I had health problems and not enough time, and it's like in 2024 GMM tells me THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT. Maybe I should actually make some dating otome novel game or some interesting AU webcomic based on GMM BL pairings, and then show it to all fans and then GMM would notice it xD Who knows? Go kick me so I'd work on one of those projects in my mind.
Anyway, in Part 1 I barely liked any trailers or stories, and I like almost everything in Part 2. I am very very excited.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episodes: 26
Air Date: March 2, 2021 - April 6, 2021
My Rating: 6.5
My Review:
This isn't a super exciting drama, I'll be honest. However, I really enjoyed it very much. I think the characters are likable and written well. It does have that over-exaggeration that I find a lot of romantic comedies have (especially ones that aren't Korean dramas).
The story is pretty basic, it's just an average love story. So there isn't anything special going on with the plot or anything. The acting by the cast is pretty good. Some actors/actresses are better than others, but they all manage to pull it off and make it believable. I think the chemistry between the supporting characters Oab and Pon is lacking. It's okay though since they aren't the focus of the story.
Overall this is a refreshing, cute, and charming drama. I think it definitely deserves a chance to be watched. Especially if you're looking for something that is just light-hearted and pure.
Is it an average-ish drama, yes. However, it works well for what it is.
My favorite characters: Dao, Taew, Morn, Grandmother, Rika (she's a good bad character lol i like her as the "villain")
My Ships: Dao and Param, Boab and Taew

My Honest Opinion:
I was really anticipating this series and may I say that it didn't disappoint even in the slightest. The plot is rather cliched but the execution is really good. I watched this series when I caught cold and it felt like a fever dream.
Tumblr media
Phumjai and Chen hands down have an amazing chemistry and totally are off the charts. Daou and Offroad sure gave it their all and I am waiting to see more series of them.
Tumblr media
Despite the first couple getting most of the spotlight, I must admit that it was the second couple which shined bright like a star despite not being the focus. I loved the fact that Tag didn't let Phojai string him along just because he loves him. All in all, this series is definitely worth watching.

My take on Blank The Series:
Age Gaps, GL, and Trauma
To make a slow-burn romance interesting to watch, especially with age gaps, regarding WLW relationships, we need many elements.
First, we need a decent cast pair. Second, we need believable performances from the actors who play these complex emotional characters. Third, we need drama. We need a reason behind each action and dialogue exchange between the characters. This is where the story becomes important. We have the characters' story and the plot of the major stuff going down. The back story of the two main characters is the most important to flesh out more than the side or supporting characters.
I'm just going to say it: I'm impressed by the performance of the two actresses who gave life to these characters.
Lately, I've had several coronaries because Thai GL has turned me into a Junkie for their content more than my own countries' versions of sapphic relationships. And they are making age-gap relationships so much more compelling to watch.
The premise is as basic as it comes in terms of story arcs. Actually, I agree with some people that "Blank" and "Gap the Series" were gender-swapped stories. Usually, a wealthy older man falls in love with a young girl. So, now we have an older prominent woman falling in love with the young girl instead, but they made it more tender and somewhat light-hearted. I understand this is an adaptation of a naughty novel, which is fantastic. I write naughty, too. But the series is more tasteful. It focuses more on the crucial aspects versus the naughty.
By the way, I enjoyed the playfulness in both the shows. It's nice to have playful flirting involved versus extreme seduction right out of the gate. Both shows remind me how a romantic relationship or even pursuing a special someone can have a silly, playful approach. It doesn't have to always be serious and get to the sexy stuff. As an older Lesbian, I have a similar playful nature when I'm allowed to express it. Thus, I feel for the older characters willing to become playful with their much younger romantic partners.
However, there's one thing I can relate to since I'm in my late 30s. Is the extreme insecurity of being romantically involved with someone younger than you? In Blank the Series, the age gap difference is 16 years. I'm glad they raised the age bar because it would've caused a lot of issues.
It's funny because I was the girl in my early 20s who hooked up and dated older women in their 30s. The age gap was not 16, but 13 years between me and the older women I had short-term relationships with. So, watching the interaction between Khun Nueng and Anueng, oh my gosh, right way, I thought Khun Nueng was in trouble in so many ways.
Now that my position in life has switched and I'm a similar age to the women I used to date, I understand the complexities they went through. You just only know once you experience it for yourself. Insecurities around age are an enormous factor in reality and in this story. More than the woman loving women aspect or even the drama of others accepting the relationship. Really, the destruction comes from the older woman who can't deal with falling in love with someone younger than them. When you sprinkle trauma on top, with a side of keeping a facade or reputation, it can get chaotic super fast.
Not only did Khun Nueng become attracted to Anueng quickly, but she couldn't resist turning Anueng away, no matter what. The actress performed those rigid responses really well because, in reality, I would have to visit a chiropractor to break my body. The tension alone of repressing my desires would turn me into a ball of knots. Especially if I had no willpower to turn away the person. Ugh... I don't even wanna think about that. Because knowing my karma, something would put me in that position in life. I even resist dating any women in their early 30s. In the late 20s, I will say to the sky, "F***...Why me?" I'm like that anyway each time I fall for a woman. "Oh, f***...Why me?"
I have to sprinkle some satire on this topic because I can already see that the root of every decision and action Khun Nueng makes is based on that insecurity. Internally, she doesn't want to believe Anueng when she constantly says she only wants to be with her and loves her. It doesn't matter how often it's said; it is something that Khun Nueng must overcome regarding age-gap insecurities.
In the ending scene of episode 6, I reacted, "You totally just wanna keep piling on the torment, don't yah?" It's clear throughout the six episodes that she's in love with the girl. She can't even admit that she gets jealous. And oh my gosh, older adults' actions regarding jealousy are more diabolical than younger people. Actually, the older you get, the more sinister it gets. The passive aggressiveness turns up. Believe me... The sky is the limit on tactfulness and mind-f***ing when women get vengeful. Oh, my gosh... I still love women, regardless. LOL! Sweet as poison.
Khun Nueng's stoic demeanor is just a mask. She represses her emotions and vulnerability. Khun Nueng abides by stoicism, which rarely benefits emotional growth. We witness this when she refrains from showing anyone her weakness, so she doesn't cry in front of people, even at her grandmother's wake. When she finally ends up alone and breaks down, Anueng shows up, and Khun Nueng feels safe enough to break down in front of her. Which is hard to do that. I also have a stoic facade, so I recognize that bullshit a mile away, and I know exactly how hard it is to repress grief. Once it erupts, it hurts like hell, but I knew Khun Nueng was fully F*** because there's really no turning back with that kind of intimate exchange they had.
I can't wait for season 2 to see how that bites her in the behind.
Obviously, I don't want Khun Nueng to suffer anymore, but through her mistakes and emotional and mental anguish, she will learn what or who is truly important to her because she's dumb. Just because we are in our 30s or late 30s doesn't mean we are free from stupidity. She definitely needs to make better choices and stop playing so many mind games to protect her ego. She needs to learn to be more upfront about her feelings and wants.
Hopefully, we get that.
I have faith they will.
