We've been watching the fucking Ted Lasso show on Apple TV which we are largely watching cause one of the characters is stupidly just me (again) and we watch shows when characters are too much one alter (again) and it does not fucking help the dude's name is FUCKING Roy.

And so everyone the past fucking week or two has been clowning about it at me and our fiance was like "You know a lot of therapists probably watch it and its a pretty easy way to explain and introduce Ray to them" and me being fucking gatekeeper went "hold the fucking phone I think Riku literally did that" and I check and fucking christ that asshole

Like if it was the fucking stupid cockatoo that never works with me or XIV I'd be like "yeah ok thats just them" but this dumb hoe literally put on my card to the therapist "Roy Kent from Ted Lasso"

I dedicate my life to this system and being a good gatekeeper and watching out for them and I come home and all this system has for me is making [redacted] Jokes at me, [redacted] jokes at me, and calling me "roy FUCKING cunt" the sheer disrespect

I was literally fronting for more than 2 seconds for the once a month moment (I literally usually front for 2 seconds just to skip any positive trigger songs like daily since I'm always here but not interested in being out 95% of the time) and this is the bullshit I get fucking christ I hate this system /hj (mostly joking but I do hate them affectionately)

ooh there’s a theme to Jamie and Roy’s future kids’ names?? 👀👀 I am very intrigued haha. I know you’ve previously mentioned the kids’ having Rebecca/Ted/Keeley/Beard’s names as middle names, but is there also a theme to their first names? And would you be willing to share…? 😂😂

yes there is a theme to the names!! i love the ‘every Kent sibling name starts with the same letter’ like ruth, rachel, rose and roy. their cousin derek has a matching theme; all of his siblings’ names start with d too

jamie proposes the idea that all the names start with r or j and roy immediately shoots it down, but he also likes the idea of A theme in general. the theme for the middle name is, as seen in previous asks, are taken from people they love and admire. they didn’t want the first name to be directly after them to have some individuality there.

the theme of the royjamie children has to do with an element of nature…and that is all i’m going to say right now 🤭

Cleat Cute - maybe good for people who want genderflipped Roy/Jamie?

A friend sent me this amusing tidbit from a podcast recommendation segment because of the R/J fic mention:

Matthew: I'm currently about halfway through an excellent romance novel called Cleat Cute by Meryl Willner. And as you might guess, from the title, this is a romance set in the world of professional women's soccer and it is a delightful and very steamy lesbian romance.  I don't know anything about soccer. But you can sort of tell when a book is is genuinely written by someone who loves and is very knowledgeable about the subject and that really comes through here like you know, all of the soccer details are very believable. And all of the other characters and relationships are very believable.  And the relationship is between these two women who are kind of in different places in life but are both on this soccer team. To put it in Ted Lasso terms, it was what it would be like if there was a romance between Jamie Tartt and Roy Kent, which obviously is a thing that no one's ever thought about or written fanfic about.  Molly: No, never, no.

If I end up checking it out, I'll report back. :) (And if any fellow Ted Lasso fans have read this, I'm curious what you thought!)

My Man Godfrey is not only a textbook example of the screwball comedy, it also has all the familiar elements of the romantic comedy: the "meet-cute," the fallings-in and fallings-out, and the eventual happily-ever-after ending. But the rom-com is distinct from the screwball comedy, and the latter tends to subvert the former. William Powell is his usual suave and sophisticated self, and nobody except Lucille Ball ever played the beautiful nitwit better than Carole Lombard. But are Godfrey (Powell) and Irene (Lombard) really made for each other? Isn't there something really amiss at the ending, when Irene all but railroads Godfrey into marriage? Knowing that marriage is an inevitability in romantic comedies, I kept wanting Godfrey to pair off with Molly (Jean Dixon), the wisecracking housemaid who conceals her love for him. And even Cornelia (Gail Patrick), the shrew Godfrey has tamed, seems like a better fit in the long run than Irene, with her fake faints and tears. The film gives us no hint that Irene has grown up enough to deserve Godfrey. But perhaps it's just better to take it for what it is, a hybrid of the two subgenres, and to enjoy the wonderful performances by Alice Brady, Eugene Pallette, Alan Mowbray, and Mischa Auer, and the always-welcome Franklin Pangborn doing his fussy, exasperated bit. A lot could be written, and probably has been, about how the film reflects the slow emergence from the Depression, with its scavenger-hunting socialites looking for a "forgotten man." a figure that only three years earlier, in Gold Diggers of 1933 (Mervyn LeRoy), had been treated with something like reverence in the production number "Remember My Forgotten Man." Had sensibilities been so hardened over time that the victims of the Depression could be treated so lightly? In any case, My Man Godfrey was a big hit, and was the first movie to have Oscar nominations -- for Powell, Lombard, Auer, and Brady -- in all four acting categories. It was also nominated for director and screenplay, though not for best picture.

After spending the break in Marbella with Roy, Jamie’s closer to everyone at Richmond than ever — and especially to Roy and Keeley. But when Julio Rodríguez joins Richmond from Fortaleza during the summer transfer window, the rest of the team loves him, and Jamie finds that he just can’t feel the same. The first time he’d come to Richmond, he’d had too many walls up to let people in properly, and the second time, he’d had to work so hard to get everyone to want him around. But Julio seems to really like Jamie, so Jamie is going to overcompensate to make up for it, to be the best teammate he can be to make sure any jealousy doesn’t show.
