Ciężki klimat i genialnie skonstruowana postać głównego bohatera bardzo mocno trafiają w mój gust i moją mentalność. Travis Bickle grany przez Roberta De Niro doskonale obrazuje atmosferę i nastrój towarzyszący wielu ludziom, którzy w latach 70. w USA mieli okazję być tzw. młodymi dorosłymi. To również przykład tego jak wojna w Wietnamie i brak społecznego poparcia dla niej odcisnął piętno na wspomnianych młodych ludziach. Taksówkarz to nie jedyny pokazujący to przykład. Pierwsza część Rambo (tak, to nie jest film o gościu który tylko chodzi i strzela, serio), Znikający Punkt, Łowca Jeleni czy nawet nowsze produkcje, takie jak serial Quarry, The Last Full Measure albo Urodzony Czwartego lipca mówią mniej lub bardziej dosłownie to samo. Pokazują jak bardzo odrzuceni zostali ludzie, którzy w tej wojnie wzięli udział. Proponuję porównać do dowolnych obrazów traktujących o weteranach II wojny światowej. Dosłowne opluwanie weteranów to również motyw, który pojawia się w fenomenalnym utworze Rooster zespołu Alice in Chains.
