I remember sitting in theaters, absolutely shocked by the movie's decision to kill off Yondu's entire crew. Those loyal to him are killed by Taserface's mutineers, and then the mutineers are killed by Rocket, Groot, and Yondu. The events on Yondu's ship are a complete bloodbath, sparing nobody.
And. Well. That's kind of the point of it. It's harsh, but it's earned. See, this is a movie about family, and it explores the theme of family in several ways.
That confrontation with Stakar made it clear that Yondu is unwelcome among the Ravagers because he broke the code. Yondu has nobody else. His crew are the only family he has.
But. Well. They aren't his family. They aren't even Ravagers, not properly. They're the men who followed Yondu in breaking the code. The men who learned from him that in the pursuit of profit, there are no lines that aren't worth crossing. They are what he molded them to be, and what he molded them to be is not a family.
Taserface is Yondu's karmic comeuppance for breaking the code and trafficking children. Yondu tries one last time to draw a line in the sand and say, "We don't do this." And Taserface comes forward to say, "Yes, we do. We do anything with no restrictions. That's what you shaped us to be."

Guardians of the Galaxy recieved their own title with cover date of June, 1990. The first team was made up of Nikki, Major Vance Astro, Charlie-27, Yondu, Starhawk, Martinex,Martinex, and Aleta. The worst part about GotG books (aside from the fact that they just aren’t very good) is that because they really don’t cross over with any of the other books so most of their storylines are self contained, and as such when they show up you almost always have to read like 12 of them in a row and man... that isn’t super fun sometimes...

she has the man slammed and pinned to the wall before he has a chance to realize he's no longer alone. the thrum of energy that warms her veins is tainted with heartache. with grief. with the unimaginable devastation of losing someone so dear to her heart. and right now, she knows this man is little more than an obstacle in her path to truly realizing what she's lost. that, once he's gone, she'll really and truly have nothing left to distract her from the loneliness.
but for now, here he stands, alive, breathing the very air that jami no longer does. and that's why she stays still, and clenches her fist, bringing the soul to her, lingering just long enough for him to understand what's about to happen.
" i-i didn't... this is about the woman?! the woman you were with, yes?! please, you... you don't understand, you don't KNOW! i didn't realize she was there! they told me the pods were decommissioned-- "
" who? "
" you have to believe m-- "
" WHO?! "
" the ravagers! the, the one with the stupid name! please, please, please... " but his whimpering pleas go unheard. she loosens her grip, and he falls back, scrambling to the corner of the room as he sobs hysterically. but all aisling can think of is that fateful day. the mutiny. yondu's downfall. the division of the crew. jami shaking and crying in the kitchen as aisling prepared to emerge and fight her way to the medbay. so many years have passed... so many of those fantastic friends, gone, scattered across the stars. but jami was still here. jami's laughter warmed the galaxies, her cheeky smile lit up the universe, and as the worlds they once travelled grew old and weary, jami still looked only to be in her twenties when that blast destroyed her escape pod. so young. older than most planets, but... so young.
and it was his fault.
not the man in the corner.
but him.
taserface.
" go. " her quiet demand ushers him out in a frantic sprint, and her attention turns to the new focus of her wrath. adjustments to technology gave him longevity. but she'll make sure he knows it all came to an end the day he went after her. the day he saw to it that jami died. 9000 years, 6000 spent knowing and working with and travelling the universe with jami. and he brought them to an end. that can never, never be forgiven.
