Ppl really need to start talking about Matt's depressive thoughts in 01. Im watching Ep44 rn and listening to him talk about how he feels worthless since t.k. is growing up and 'doesn't need him anymore' is just wow. He talks about how he wants to change and get stronger, etc, so he'll have more value to the team since he believes everyone has evolved in their own ways except for him. He feels bad about always blowing up at people. He feels like the crest of friendship isn't really right because he doesnt think he belongs in the group anymore. I think wondering about your worth and place in the world, or even a smaller group, is something that everyone has questioned at some point or another. It's one of the things I love about digimon. It's very realistic. A lot of kids shows with child main characters don't usually show the flaws in their life. They don't show the affects saving the world over and over again and constantly fighting has on a child like digimon does. I think digimon also has sooo many very angsty plot lines, but nobody really talks about them. Gotsumon and pumpkinmons 'deaths(?)', the dark ocean (surprisingly), Kari getting sick, the several times where the kids are being literally manipulated (like with demidevimon/literally everyone, Matt/Cherrymon, etc). And don't even get me started on tri cause so much shit happened, and it was terrible for the kids, but i never see anyone talk about it. Like the chosen children must be so traumatized from all the years of violence.

AU / Crossover Challenge: Beginnings
It was well after dark by the time Steph reached her dorm. Flopping onto her bed, she pulled out her phone and selected the most recent missed call. The line rang twice before her cousin answered.
“Matt Ishida is my lab partner.”
“Wait -“ the phone shook violently as Becky flipped the camera around so that Steph could see her face. It was close to midnight in Paris and it was obvious the call had woken her up.
“Dickenson’s grandson? The one that hates beyblading?”
Steph nodded, figuring that seemed like an accurate enough description. She heard the rustle of food packets as her cousin dug into her snacks.
“What’s he doing at Oxford?”
“He’s doing the summer science program, same as me,” Steph said with a shrug. “Said something about wanting to become an engineer.”
Somehow, the fact that Matt had already figured out what he wanted to do when he graduated high school and she hadn’t made Steph like him even less.
“Nerd,” Becky teased, helping herself to a handful of popcorn. “So - is he hot?”
“Becky!”
Her cousins laughter reverberated through her AirPods, prompting Steph to mash the volume down button to preserve her hearing.
“It’s a valid question,” her cousin insisted, following by the crunch of a cookie. Great, now she was making Steph hungry. “How long has it been since you last saw him? A year?”
“At least,” Steph guessed, trying to do the math in her head. As the grandson of the Chairman of the BBA, it was inevitable that they would cross paths on occasion. In fact, the first time they’d met, she’d actually found him rather charming.
She’d been visiting the BBA office in Paris during the Bladebreakers first tour of Europe. Mr Dickenson had requested an update following Tyson’s match with Oliver, so she’d snuck off from her teammates while Tyson finished another bottomless brunch at the hotel. Of course, Dickenson had forgotten their meeting and his assistant instructed her to wait in the lobby.
Steph couldn’t remember who struck up the conversation first - had he commented on the book she’d been reading while she waited, or had she caught a glimpse what was playing on his iPod? Whichever the case, the discussion that followed suggested that in another place and time they would be friends, possibly more.
When she’d introduced herself as a beyblader however, his attitude toward her suddenly turned cold.
She had never found out why Matt disliked beyblading so much, especially when his younger brother, T.K, was one of Tyson’s biggest fans.
“You didn’t answer my other question,” Becky’s pout could be heard between the sound of crumbling cookies, drawing Steph’s attention back to the conversation at hand. “Is he good looking at least?”
“He’s not … unattractive,” Steph conceded. “His personality on the other hand …”
Becky laughed again, this time so hard that the phone tumbled out of her hand and hit the floor with a thud and Steph glared at the now empty screen. “I’m not kidding,” she said. “His attitude makes Kai seem like a Ray of sunshine.”
“I give it a week,” Becky said. “Two tops - before you’re making out with him in the library surrounded by the works of Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde.”
“Fat chance of that,” Steph grumbled, ignoring Becky’s cackle as they said their goodbyes before hanging up.
The only time she, Steph Summers, would be caught making out with the likes of Matt Ishida in the library was when hell froze over. Or so she thought …

The English dub cast for the 8 kids and the Digimon:
Tai Kamiya: Zeno Robinson
Matt Ishida: AJ Beckles
Sora Takenouchi: Cherami Leigh
Izzy Izumi: Anne Yatco
Mim Tachikawa: Suzie Yeung
Joe Kido: Daman Mills
T.K. Takaishi: Corina Boettger
Kari Kamiya: Ryan Bartley

Gabumon: Dave B. Mitchell
Biyomon: Tara Sands
Tentomon: Christopher Swindle
Palmon: Corina Boettger
Gomamon: Alex Cazares
Patamon: Lizzie Freeman
Gatomon: Erine Yvette
Notable roles the voice actors are known for (in my opinion):
Zeno Robinson as "Tai":
My main take-away here is "Hunter" from The Owl House (since I just binged that and the trauma is real) and "Go" from Pokémon Journey's, but he already did a lot of amazing things and I love him.
AJ Beckles as "Matt":
Most notably for me was "Hop" from Pokémon Journey's - and generally the fact that we will hear a loooot of recent Pokémon voices.
Cherami Leigh as Sora:
Okay, her list is INSANELY long and I absolutely cannot wait to listen to her, this is some pretty amazing stuff we have right here and she deserves it:
"Asuna" from Sword Art Online
"Sailor Venus/Minako Aino" from Sailor Moon Viz Dub/Crystal/Eternal/Cosmos (MORE SAILOR MOON CONNECTIONS!!!)
"Chloe" from Pokémon Journey's
"Michiru" from Brand New Animal
"Miyo Sasaki" from "A Whisker Away" (which is amazing, since Natsuki Hanae plays her love interest in Japanese)
"Alina Grey" from Magia Record
"Tome Kurata" from Mob Psycho 100
"Sarada Uchiha" from Boruto
MOST INTERESTINGLY: "Maki Himekawa" AND "Piyomon" in Digimon Adventure Tri, so we have old ties after all!
Anne Yatco as "Izzy":
Gaaaaaah, I reallly cannot wait to listen to her. Again, happy that we got a voice actress for him again and that she did a fair share of female AND also boyish roles (even though I am not really familiar with the latter).
"Kinemi Miki" from Blue Period
"Nobara Kugisaki" from Jujutsu Kaisen
"Sabine Cheng" from Miraculous Ladybug
Suzie Yeung as Mimi:
She actually did a lot, I just didn't KNOW a lot...
"Makima" from Chainsaw Man
Young "Kyou Soma" from the Fruits Basket reboot
Daman Mills as "Joe":
He also did a lot I didn't know, but again, reeeeeally exciting stuff.
"Yotasuke Takahashi" in Blue Period
"Kaworu Nagisa" in the Neon Genesis Evangelion Rebuild series (that made me scream again, since they gave him Yamato's VA's in German)
"N" in Pokémon Masters (also other minor roles in Pokémon, not surprising)
Corina Boettger as "T.K." AND Palmon:
"Tatsumaki" from One Punch Man
"Sailor Tin Nyanko" from Sailor Moon Stars
"Meiyui Chun" from Magia Record
Ryan Bartley as "Kari":
"Ram" from Re:Zero
"Allister" from Pokémon Journey's
"Sana Futaba" from Magia Record
"Candice" and "Corinna" from Pokémon Masters
"Angela" from Carole & Tuesday
"Takane Tsubomi" from Mob Psycho 100
"Yusa / Misa" from Charlotte
"Rei Ayanami" from the Neon Genesis Evangelion re-dub (THIS CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD THE MOST)
tbc.
