One of Swedens most famous authors is children's book author Astrid Lindgren (1907-2002). Her perhaps most famous character of all is Pippi Långstrump, Pippi Longstocking in English. The books about Pippi is one of the most translated books in the world, available in around 100 languages.
The books were released during the 40's, and in 1969 a TV-series adaption came out. In the 70's, two movies were released, with the same actors and director. The theme song Här kommer Pippi Långstrump (Here comes Pippi Longstocking) was composed by the incredibly well renowned jazz musician Jan Johansson and recorded sung by the actress playing Pippi, Inger Nilsson. Johansson died tragically in a car accident in 1968, before the series were released. Most subsequent Astrid Lindgren songs were written by Georg Riedel.
The song is sung from Pippi's perspective, describing herself and urging her friends to have a great time with her. The lyrics are also peppered with the nonsensical "tjolahopp tjolahej tjolahoppsansa". A couple of years ago, an "official music video" was published on Youtube, consisting of clips from the series and movies:

Har väntat på den här dagen sen förevigt ungefär. Som en käftsmäll av tonårsångest och nostalgi. Fälde en tår, eller två. Känner att emoluggen växter tillbaka as we speak

Sharing my Swedish language pop playlist in case anyone is interested. I did a deep musical dive awhile back when I was more obsessed with learning Swedish and these were some of my faves.

January Polyglot Challenge
I'm super excited to participate in @polysprachig's polyglot challenge for January! (Here is the link to the original post)
I've chosen Veronica Maggio's Swedish album Och som vanligt händer det något hemskt [And as usual something terrible happens]
This a new artist for me, and I really like her style so far. She reminds me of a softer Carly Rae Jepsen in a way (and The Lonliest Time was one of my top albums from 2022). Technically this album is 12 songs, but the opening track "Innan dig" is instrumental, so I may supplement with one of her other songs if I need to
My goals are to use outside translation help as little as possible so I can build more confidence in my own translation skills.
This is my first time participating in a langblr/studyblr challenge so I'm very much looking forward to doing this with everyone! I will also have another post at some point with some more general language/study goals for 2023 where I will talk more about Swedish and my motivations for working on it.

The Sámi people are a group of people indigenous to Sápmi, an area covering the northern parts of todays Norway, Sweden, Finland and nort-western Russia. Maxida Märak is a rapper and singer born and raised in Stockholm, but now residing in Jokkmokk in the Swedish part of Sápmi.
She is a human rights activist as well as a musician, and has touched on important subjects such as climate change and the treatment of the Sámi people in both her activism and her music. The song Nu brinner ängarna (The meadows are burning) touches on climate change and the uncertainty around being able to promise her daughter a future.
In december 2022 she performed the song together with her daughter NikeSunna at Musikhjälpen, a yearly Swedish charity event hosted by the Swedish public service radio and television:

Vem kan segla förutan vind?
Finish/Swedish folk song
Lyrics:
Vem kan segla förutan vind?
Vem kan ro utan åror?
Vem kan skiljas från vännen sin
Utan att fälla tårar?
Jag kan segla förutan vind
Jag kan ro utan åror
Men ej skiljas från vännen min
Utan att fälla tårar
Translation:
Who can sail without wind?
Who can row without oars?
Who can from their friend part
Without shedding tears?
I can sail without wind
I can row without oars
But not from my friend part
Without shedding tears
