One more day until the current round ends! There's a few close races, if you haven't cast all your votes yet....
Major Tom vs. Rock Lobster - Duuuuuude!... this is a nailbiter! As of right now, Major Tom is winning 50.8% to Rock Lobster at 49.2%!!! Both songs are so legendary!
Suki Suki Daisuki vs. Let's Go All The Way - Only 27 votes! And still a 55-44 split! Every vote counts! I know these are both lesser known songs, so if you don't know either/both songs, go have a listen.
Take On Me vs. Running Up That Hill - Y'all called it, this was going to be the The Poll of this round! Not only are the songs iconic, but the videos both just exude 80s vibes.
Tarzan Boy vs. Genius of Love - Yep, it's a novelty song against an underground classics/one of the most sampled songs ever! But Tarzan Boy really transcends... it's weirder than Devo, and yet, so catchy!
What Is Love vs. Pop Muzik - Ok... just going to throw this up because the poll is close, but there's one right answer (in my mind). Is it winning? Is it losing? It's close....
I didn't get to mention this earlier in my review of Flight of Icarus, but this little tidbit from the book reminds me of the song "Nowhere Fast" from the 80s movie Streets of Fire:
Time for your favorite 70's and 80's synthpop hits to battle it out. Song submissions currently closed.
Round 4 hits your dash on April 27th!
Guidelines:
Must be released between 1975-1992
Song should emphasize synthesizer melodies and/or drum machine rhythm lines. Songs don't need to be all electronic; early hip-hop, early EDM and late disco all qualify!
I won't be putting more than two songs from the same artist in the bracket, and the song choice is at my discretion.
More information about bracket structure here.
Bracket polls will run with youtube links because Synthpop was such a MTV dependent genre.
