Digiweek 2022 Drabbles/Ficlets - Red Shades Filling Up My Heart

One year ago, @dutchforstrangers had decided to dedicate the entirety of Digiweek to a lovely little polyamorous OT3 fanfiction with the title “Shades of Red”. Even if I went into Digiweek 2022 pretty much unprepared, I’m still aiming to pay homage to the story by taking a look at how things may have developed afterwards...

Chapter 3: Humour

Summary: Upon coming out to their families and during their visit at the Yagami residence, Koushirou and Sora discover that both Yuuko and her son have a thing for very silly fruit (and vegetable) puns.

„Well, I’d say, the bigger the family, the more people will be able to take care of all the grandchildren, so you’re having my full approval!”

Hearing that, Sora was the only one who broke into a chuckle (“G-grandchildren, huh…”), whereas Taichi just looked like he was about to sink in between the couch cushions. Koushirou had already been through this kind of talk and attempted to exchange a rather sympathetic glance with Susumu, who – just like Taichi himself – couldn’t believe what his wife had just said.

They had decided to come clean to their families one after another, starting with, assumably, the easiest and ending with the most difficult one. The Izumi family had been both delighted – in Masami’s case – and ecstatic – In Kae’s case – to see their son in a fulfilling relationship, reassuring both Sora and Taichi that, regardless of what and how their own family model would look like, they would always have their full support.

Before approaching the Takenouchi family, they were now sitting in the Yagami residence – Hikari had obviously already known about it all, just like the rest of their friend group did by now. And judging by the way Yuuko was beaming at them right here, she must have had her own ideas about her son’s love life and preferences.

“It sure is a bit surprising, seeing how this is a rather… Unusual arrangement?” Susumu smiled a crooked smile, just to have Yuuko patting his shoulder, still in a rather excited mood.

“I absolutely don’t see any problem here, dear, if you like a variety of fruits in a basket, you wouldn’t just pick the peach over the cucumber if you can enjoy both, would you?”

This time, Taichi couldn’t suppress a laugh himself, still attempting to stop it with a loud “Pfffff”, but absolutely couldn’t keep it in. The mental image of that comparison had been just too vivid – and as silly as it was, he actually couldn’t remember the last time he had laughed a laugh that liberating, setting free a lot of tension in his stomach and chest. Meanwhile Koushirou had tried not to choke on his water and Sora looked like she was wondering whom exactly their boyfriend had inherited his humour from.

“Yuuko-san, cucumbers aren’t-,” Koushirou coughed, still recovering – just like Taichi, who was unable to stop grinning –, but Yuuko was already on track again, waving her hand apologetically.

“N’aww, don’t worry, I don’t have a single doubt that you three will be good for each other – Taichi has always been very vocal about his favourite fruits in the basket after all.”

“M-mom…”, Taichi started, lips still curled into that ridiculous grin, so he could feel both Koushirou and Sora nudging him from each side, with the latter whispering slyly:

“It is a fitting analogy, and she’s taking it with a lot of humour, that’s nice, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, hilarious, pfff…”

“I guess what we’re trying to say is…,” Susumu interrupted, collecting himself before giving them a gentle look. “Know that you are always welcome here.”

“And please always come to me when you have a problem!,” Yuuko added eagerly, “Really, Sora-chan, Koushirou-kun, I have missed you two around, Taichi has never been a picky eater, but if I had known how much he was struggling, I would have intervened much sooner.”

“Mom, really, that’s not necessary…“

“Well… One could say we were all on a diet to some degree,” Koushirou mused – causing Taichi to break out into another laughter, while Sora patted his thigh with a sigh.

Takari Week 2022 - Day 6: Shopping Date

Days: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] Title: Baby Bottles, Pacifiers and Everything in Between Characters: Takeru Takaishi, Hikari Yagami, Patamon, Tailmon, Taichi Yagami, Yamato Ishida, Sora Takenouchi, Yuuko Yagami, Susumu Yagami and Natsuko Takaishi. Summary: Hikari and Takeru go buy things for their unborn baby for the first time and reveal they're expecting to their families. Note: For Takari week, I decided to do something different. All stories will be told in first person, from both Takeru and Hikari's POVs in the same story. It will be separated to make it easier, though. The cool wind breeze messed my hair as I leaned against the balcony, but I didn't mind at all. Grateful was all that I was feeling at that moment. I had my own apartment, the most amazing wife ever and a great job. I would say my life was perfect, but I'd be lying. It would be in a few months, though. "There you are." Hikari's voice echoed around me and I couldn't help but smile at the sound of it as I lowered my head a little. Then I turned around and found her standing by the door that separates our living room from our balcony. "What are you doing here?" "I was waiting for you, actually." I approached her and kissed her in the cheek, while resting my hand on her belly. "Well, I'm ready to go now." "Great." I reached for her hand and then we walked out of our apartment, with Patamon in his usual spot over my head and Tailmon right beside Hikari.

Hikari and I have been married for about two years now. We were engaged for only one year, since we didn't want to spend a long time like that. After the wedding ceremony, she decided she would grow her hair and it was already a little below her shoulders. I think she looks stunning, though I love her short hair too. She said it was the beginning of a new phase of her life and I couldn't agree more with her.

About two months ago, she told me she had something to say to me. Looking back now, I find it hard to believe she managed to stay so serious at that moment, especially because it was a moment of happiness. At first, I was alarmed because that was a side of Hikari that hardly ever comes to the surface, but then she gave me the brightest smile and I knew it was just a façade. She sat down beside me on the bed and handed me a pregnancy test. Our initial reaction was to be shocked and a little nervous and worried. Not because we didn't want to have children at some point, but it wasn't something that we were planning to so soon. But the happiness and excitement quickly replaced it and we assured each other we could do it together. And here we are now. "You seem quiet today." Her voice brought me back from my trance. "Are you sure everything is fine?" "Yes, I'm sure." I reassured her with a grin. "I was just thinking about the day you told me you were pregnant." "Oh." She looked down to her stomach, which was starting to show. "I felt so many things that day. Now I just feel… whole, complete. I don't know if it makes sense or if you feel the same, but…" "I do." I interrupted her, still smiling. "It makes total sense to me." "I'm sure you two will be great parents." Patamon spoke above me and I looked up at him. "I hope so." Hikari's tone was a little worried, so I squeezed her hand a little, in a comforting way. "I know it's scary because we don't know how to take care of a child, but we can do this." "You know what?" She smiled at me. "You're right. We will learn how to be parents together. I wouldn't want to go through this with anyone else." "Me either." I put my arm around her shoulders as we walked out of the elevator.

“Daddy?”

Taichi’s head turned to his son.

“What is it like to not have a dad anymore?”

The unexpected question struck him. Although, it wasn’t that suddenly taking how things had gone the past month. He was aware of the death of his own father, but he never thought about being fatherless because of it. Why though?

Images of himself passing away and leaving behind Souta flooded Taichi’s mind followed by a shiver along his spine. Of course his motherless son wanted to know what living without a father would be like, since a father as a parental figure was all he knew.

“Well… ehm…”

He thought about his old man, how his own father had guided and mentored him through life whenever he could. But in times that he couldn’t guide, Taichi was reminded by his own memories of the many other mentor-like figures he had.

His football coach telling him to run and attack.

Gennai explaining to him about the potential he had and could have.

Nishijima-sensei giving him the strength to dream big.

He remembered how the latter had already left him behind in the most agonizing way. Taichi had to bite his lip, swallowing away the forming lump in his throat as a single tear rolled down over his cheek to the floor below.

These mentors had all made him suffer in one way or another, including his own father. He could never pinpoint why they had done that, but looking at his son, looking at the father and mentor he had become, he could see now.

In the end he had to score the goal on his own.

In the end he had to find out where his potential lay and what it meant.

In the end he had to live his dream himself, because no one could do that for him.

Taichi nodded and laughed to himself, smiling through the pain, feeling how the hands on his shoulder encouraged him to continue and struggle, walk and run over the path he paved for himself.

“You know, Souta, I might not have a physical dad anymore, but I was lucky to have more than one.”

“How?”

“You’ve got to figure that out yourself. But just remember, you will always take them with you in ways you can’t understand now.”

Souta cringed his eyebrows, tilting his head slightly just like a puppy who tried to understand life. “Just like mommy?”

Taichi softly smiled. “Yeah,” he nodded.

The bright smile on his son’s face was like the sun to Taichi. And through the rays of light he could not only see Rei, but also his own father. Or fathers. “Dad, I’ve got to keep dreaming big!” Souta exclaimed enthusiastically as he jumped on the couch, one hand above his eyes as if he was searching for that big dream in an imaginary distance. Taichi laughed with him, silently promising he would be the guide to his own son the way his handful of father-like figures had been mentors to him.

Notes:

This A.M.V. is currently UN-FINISHED. As of now, only the 2nd chorus and a bit more through the interlude, is (partially!) completed. Hopefully you find some enjoyment so far though! The 1st part had taken about 45~ min already. The 2nd verse + chorus took about another 35~ min. This 3rd section took about 30 min at start, another 1 hr to wrap up scenes through the interlude, and already had a total of 1 crashing of my editor. These may not be final scenes as I make adjustments. (However, it came together well despite the crash!)

There is a tiny bit of scenery shots from beginning of Kizuna, then, by the interlude, some more Kizuna spoilers involving Taichi & Koushiro mainly, but you will see a scene of the Chosen. Tri spoilers, mainly Taichi & Koushiro supporting each other moments, are also added in this new section; there are moments from Saikai, Kokuhaku and Kyousei, mainly. The ends of Kokuhaku and Kyousei are not spoiled, but there is lead-up.

DigiAdv 2020 scene (for A.U. spinoff) becomes included by the interlude (it’s mainly Koushiro moments from beginning of Ep 36, so far) However, it can also be seen as inclusive of wider Adventure{s} canon; and basically paralleling the following canon moments.

Gossip Girl

Hello my lovelies,

Good day for gossip, isn’t it?

It has been 15 years since the famous, or should I say the infamous, story of Blair, Chuck, Serena, Dan, and Nate entertained your cute little minds. Yes, it was highly entertaining and wild, the will they, won’t they drama keeping you up all night. All the cheating, heartbreaks, and sex scandals. Exciting, isn’t it? Who doesn’t love a saucy and sweet love story? Stories about power, money, position, sex, drugs, glamour and, of course, all the gossip that follows. After all, the lives of Manhattan’s Upper East Sides’ elites are always exciting and interesting to us ordinary folks.

Now that Manhattan has moved on from our former Queen B, congratulations on a happily ever after with Chuck, by the way. Who knew there would be someone to tame the wild beast that is Chuck Bass? I did, of course. Bringing you their story and all their rendezvous, I saw it a mile away, even when our puppy love Nate was trying to woo back his first lady love. You’ve got to admit there is definitely something about a bad boy and a hardcore queen who can tame him. Oh, and lonely boy is doing pretty good for himself, got the girl of his dreams and living the elite life, now isn’t that exactly what started the gossip.

Good for them I guess, and thanks to them, I now live on.

Who am I?

I am THE news darling. Everyone wants to know what goes on in the life of Manhattan’s rich and famous, and everyone wants to know who wears the crown of Queen B. I have eyes and ears everywhere. Everything comes to me first, and let’s face it pretty girls and boys, if I don’t spread it, who’s gonna know? Isn’t that why you stole your sister’s boyfriend Zoya?

Wait? Did I offend you? This is New York darling; one whisper, one rumour, and it's a make-or-break. Gossip follows and lives change; after all, haven't you heard? It is survival of the fittest, and in our case, survival of the most relevant. So, if I do offend you, that's good; it means I am doing my job right. If this isn’t your scene, then well, let me know how's life on the other side. Wink Wink darling.

Anyways, moving on from the distraction, let’s bring the focus back to our stars, the current elites of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Friends, frenemies, or competitors, because let’s face it, everybody wants to be the King or Queen of the Upper East Side; because if you are talked about, you exist in this world, or else, who are you again?

Since every good gossip needs her heroine, let me introduce you to our “Queen B” of Constance Billard School for Girls, Mimi Tachikawa. This perfect pretty girl next door is the granddaughter of the business tycoon, Genichiro Tachikawa, yes, the same Tachikawa who owns half of New York. Don’t let that sweet smile and gesture fool you; the daughter of the most famous socialite in New York, Satoe Tachikawa, can leave a nasty bite. Just ask Miyuki Shiba. Miyuki Shiba, who? Exactly! With all boys wanting to be with her and all girls wanting to be her, this sultry princess can show you your place very well. No one dares mess with the queen of the jungle, not unless you want to be in exile.

Every princess needs her knight in shining armour. Why not a prince, you ask? Well, that title is reserved for someone else. You’ll see. Our knight in shining armour is the “Golden Boy” of St. Jude's School for Boys, Taichi Yagami. The charming athlete and every girl’s dream prince. The prodigal son of senator Susumu Kamiya, one of the most powerful politicians of the city, holding power over us ordinary folks. While girls throw themselves at him, he claims his heart belongs to our Queen B. After all, it only makes sense, doesn’t it? Childhood sweethearts and the perfect fairy tale couple. The prince and princess, just meant to be. Or are they now? My trusted sources say he might have an eye for another; scandalicious indeed!

Every story needs a bad boy, and we've got just the one. Why wasn't Taichi the prince, you ask? Well, here is your answer. Meet the notorious Yamato "Matt" Ishida. Best friend of our knight in shining armour and the dark prince of New York City. Girls come and go, hoping to change the prince, but the grandson of the legendary rock singer Michel Takaishi and the son of T.V heartthrob Hiroaki Ishida seems to enjoy his privileged life a bit too much. Who wouldn't, though, with a body of a Greek God, bright blue dreamy eyes, and the French factor, sign me up for some of that. Repelled by the idea of love, it seems no one has been able to tame this bad wolf yet.

Now, where is the fun without a rebel in the mix? Meet Sora Takenouchi, daughter of the famous fashion designer Toshiko Takenouchi. The die-hard party girl and best friend of Mimi Tachikawa and Taichi Yagami. Unable to satisfy her stern mother’s expectations, it is always good gossip when Sora parties a little too hard. Rumours say she used to be a tomboy in middle school, playing football with our golden boy, but if that were true, we don’t see any traces of that anymore. Well done, Sora; it seems like your mother’s and Mimi’s influence has done good for you.

I have seen many Princes, Golden boys, Queen B, and It girls come and go, but somehow I have a feeling the legends of these 4 people will last much longer. Have I got your interest? Good, stay tuned for more.

My commentary:

I’m aware there’s quite a few ongoing and recent fan events right now that might have had Taichi or Koushiro involvement, but I was tied up with offline things; Thus, this time is an A.M.V. that is mainly Koushiro-centric, but TAICHI does get some quite good focus too, and, specifically, also their (Very Good) relationship! There is also some vid-style analysis on the dynamics of Izumi Family, as well as the Yagami Family. It’s also yet another "analysis” of Koushiro & Taichi in general, too. (Basically any of my other ships can also be read in, in varying combos.)

Notes:

This is the preliminary 1st version of this A.M.V. Hopefully you find some enjoyment as it is now though! The 1st part had taken about 45~ min already. The 2nd verse + chorus took about another 35~ min. She is born to one Susumu Yagami and one Yuuko Yagami. Little sister to one Taichi Yagami. She is frail. She is small. She is weak. She is two months too early when she first enters the world.

Her mother enters labor abruptly, unexpectedly, one midafternoon when the family is out on a picnic. No one foresaw their child coming this soon. The destined day is still months away, yet everyone foresaw the complications of a fetus that had not yet fully developed being born. The sunlight wavers in the delivery room, descending into the evening night. Yuuko holds strong, though there is a sense of fear and trepidation that creeps in.

Her husband and son wait out in the hallway. Taichi, too young to really understand what is happening. Susumu trying to keep a level head.

The moon watches and listens as the nurses and doctors begin the operation. The unborn child too small and fragile to be removed naturally. It is a risky operation, but it is the only option they have.

As the sun rises, they pull the child out. As the sun rises, they realize the child is not breathing.

Their child is kept in the ICU for a long time, days and weeks longer than Susumu or Yuuko would have liked. Would have wanted. But they could only hope and pray for the betterment and health of their child. That she would recover and she would be able to come back home.

There is a lot of discussions with doctors and specialists. Lots of talks with family and friends to keep themselves sane and rational and hopeful. There are a lot of days of staring at their child through a window. It tests them. It tests them in ways they wished no one has to experience.

Yet, they endure.

As well as their child. Through the tests, the incubations, the multitude of things that no infant needs on their first days, weeks, months of life. They endure. It is a slow, steady progress. Miniscule at first, till the small things pile up into big things and then it becomes obvious that their child is healing.

It takes a long time, but eventually Hikari Yagami does come home.

At long last, Hikari Yagami is able to come home.

.the shining star

She is still sickly growing up, but she perseveres. She is a sweet, humble child that only a parent could dream about having. She adores and preens and constantly uplifts Taichi, because there is no one more admirable than her older brother. Anyone can see how she idolizes Taichi. It’s cute. It’s heart-warming.

Until it hurts her and Taichi. Without her even trying to- without her meaning to.

It starts and ends with a game, a simple game. It can’t be helped that she is sick at the time and it can’t be helped that Tai wants to play his favorite sport. So she does what she always does, what she always wants to do- she wants to help him. She wants to make him happy. So she plays the game, even though she shouldn’t.

She really shouldn’t.

Hikari doesn’t realize the full catastrophic risks and neither did Tai. Until she is hospitalized yet again. Pneumonia she hears.

She stays in the hospital again for a few more days, before she is in the clear and she is able to come home. She sees the way her parents are fearful and frustrated, and she sees the way Tai looks apprehensive. She apologizes. It’s the first thing she tells him, because she is so terribly sorry that she could not kick the ball. That they couldn’t finish the game.

It does not have the effect she wants.

It takes a long, long, long time for the memory to lose its vividness over the years. The sight of her brother crying. It takes her deep in her core, rattling and unnerving. She never forgets it. Hikari doesn’t think she ever will.

.the eternal light

Things change over the years since that core memory. Hikari still goes by Hikari, but now they use different pronouns. Something about it feels better- atleast for the moment. They find some passion in caring and looking after animals. It’s a driving force, leading them to a career in vet tech. It is an empowering, and humbling experience all the same.

They meet people, make friends. Some lasting a short amount of years, and others Hikari knows will transcend lifetimes. Some people are just other parts of your soul as they say.

They grow taller, older, more mature. Still as sweet and good natured. They grow wiser- having a better understanding of themselves and the world around them.

They hold their secrets closer to their chest. Some memories tainted by darkness and eerie voices. Sometimes haunted by the ghosts of those who wished to see an angel fall. Those times are hard to forget and they follow them to this day. They never spoke a word about it, and maybe it is something they will keep hidden till it is forced out of their lips. Hikari never plans to tell, but maybe life has a way of humbling them further.

Still, despite all the changes, there is one consistency. Something is missing. There is a piece of their soul that they have yet to discover. Hikari has tried to figure it out, tried to find what it is that calls to them. Yet, it stays elusive hiding away from them.

One day, they hope to find them. Whatever missing piece it is. They know once they do, they will finally feel whole. Hikari can finally bask in the light.

Hikari has always loved animals, and working with them can sometimes feel like a dream come true. There are hard days of course, days where they can't believe that this was something that they chose for themself, but those days are few and far between. More often is the feeling that they are missing something, that they are lost, that they are half full, and they don't know where to find that other half.

I hope you dont mind, but i always liked your analysis, so i wanted to ask you about your thoughts on a scene in 02 the beginning. In the Rui flashback where he is locked outside on the balcony there is a moment where he goes silent but the scene lingers before ukkomon shows up. Then when ukkomon appears we see that his feet and fingers are really red from the cold. Maybe just my mind went there but i had the feeling that Rui might have died of hypothermia if Ukkomon didnt show up? That his mum forgot about him just like on the way home. I mean it would be pretty dark but i also never thought they would show child abuse like that or a partner digimon puppeting the parents.

Of course I don't mind, I like to discuss the movie details, just making sure to tag everything accordingly!

I do believe that there could have been dangerous consequences of him staying out there much longer, the scene lingered a lot on him not moving at all, so I almost expected him to collapse there.

Digimon did touch on a lot of "darker" family related themes in the past, almost every season had at least one family constellation that had negative effects on the child's (social) behaviour and coping mechanisms - even though physical abuse wasn't a topic yet, that definitely was a new one. And... The puppeteering was definitely creepy. (That's what I meant by saying it was Ghost Game levels of scary.)

I do believe that there also may be a system behind children who were "preferred" by Homeostasis to be chosen due to the fact that they HAD to deal with emotional turmoil more than others. Or potentially would have to deal with it. Because that may force them to bring out their most promising traits in a more intense fashion. (That being said, I am still glad they didn't keep the route of Yagami Susumu being an alcoholic. I'm glad the Yagami family seems to be functional...)

Taichi Week Day 6: Sports & Growing Up

Days: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] Title: An Unforgettable Event Summary: 32 countries coming together for the World's Biggest event. Taichi couldn't be more excited for it. Taichi was feeling very excited. He had been waiting for that moment for weeks and now it was finally there. He ran to the balcony and took a look at his surroundings. There were quite a few Japan flags hung on windows and the streets were nearly desert, due to everyone being in their houses waiting for the soccer game to start. The people who were still outside were wearing the blue Japanese soccer team jersey, like him. It was the first time Japan was going to be in a World Cup, so the energy was different from last time.

He walked back inside his apartment and found his sister also ready to watch the match. She was also wearing the Japanese soccer team T-shirt, like their father. Their mother preferred to wear a plain white T-shirt though. "I can't believe I'm going to see our country playing at the greatest soccer event of the Earth for the first time." Taichi sat down on the floor with his back leaned against the largest couch in the apartment. "It's definitely a huge moment for us." Susumu sat beside him. Hikari was on the other couch and Yuuko came from the kitchen with a large bowl of popcorn in her hands. "You made only one, mom?" Hikari asked. "Taichi will eat this one all by himself." "Hey!" "There are two more in the kitchen. I made more because of that." "I don't eat a whole bowl alone." "Yes, you do. You do it normally, let alone during a soccer game." The girl teased. "Whatever." Taichi turned to his father. "Do you think we have a chance of winning this match?" "Honestly? I doubt it. Argentina is a strong team. But of course I will hope for us to win." "The teams are on the field." Hikari stated. "The game is about to start."
