timeskip nicktoon unite designs (+ my human spongebob design!!!)
(lots of help with these from @chocowhomps and @smorallow !!!!!!!!!! FOLLOW THEM NOW NOW NOW)
My hcs info for all of them:
Spongebob: Any pronouns, genderfluid, asexual, homoromantic Danny: He/him, Transmasc, Pansexual Jimmy: He/him, Transmasc, Unlabeled Timmy: He/They, Non-binary, Bisexual
also Spongebob has freckles on his face and many small birthmarks all over his body. Spongebob is Autistic and is like the silly gay uncle in the group. he supports all of them as much as he can but is still just a very silly little guy. Danny is a tired stressed mess that still does hero work. he is also very big brother core to timmy and messes with him a lot, but he loves them i swear! Jimmy is autistic and does commission work for the fbi/gov, and he is VERY gifted kid burnt out. He is a bit of a slacker and has very little interest in school and finds the structure constraining (cause of the tisum). He tries to connect with ppl more since he is not a ppl person like how he was when he was younger. Timmy has ADHD and is still pretty immature. He still has his fairies, needed them to deal with his negligent ass parents. Cosmo and Wanda are basically his new parents, but around 16 they divorce (ik crazy thing but shut up i think they would, Cosmo is not a good partner 😭). They are still around for timmy though!
MASSIVE thanks to chocowhomps again for the help with the hcs. they are basically all his. i had little help with it he is very awesome

hey btw, if you're participating in the boycotts, and are a part of any Nicktoons fandom- I'd suggest not buying the new All-Star Brawl game...
Tumblr media
Nick has tweeted in support of Isr@€l (censoring to avoid bot-search) they then locked replies after receiving negative feedback, but kept the post up

reminder to anyone that it isnt just disney who is pro-israel, but nickelodeon supports the palestine genocide and they convienently just released their new smash game today
please reconsider where your money will go to
it's not on the bds boycott list, but the realisation just struck me after seeing my subscribed channels playing it and remembering that nickelodeon was upholding israel's propaganda a few days ago
no this post doesnt mean 'abandon your fave nicktoons series or characters'
it means 'dont give them money to fund weapons for genocide'

sofa. I'm trying to think of another question but im not sure. would you list some of your top 10 favorite cartoons of all time
DAMN ANOTHER TOUGHIE.. ive watched a lot of cartoons... i feel like its easy just to list more current ones/cartoons ive very recently watched but im gonna try real hard not to do that. so in no particular order:
adventure time: probably an obvious choice to ppl who know me personally. im pretty sure ive said this before but i quite literally grew up with this show, like i watched the pilot on nicktoons when i was like 9 and freaked out when the first episode of the actual show aired, and ive still regularly and enthusiastically kept up with it ever since, even to this day. i have to be honest and say the inclusions of distant lands and fionna and cake had me worried in a very cynical way about wringing the franchise dry or it succumbing to nostalgia bait but ive been happy to have had those fears handily dispelled every time. it makes me really happy to see that the cast and crew that have stuck with it just seem so genuinely excited to continue to tell new stories in the expanded universe and explore the land of ooo and new characters who live there, i think thats a good way to keep an ongoing series with spinoffs or limited series or what have you to keep from getting stale
ducktales 2017: once again anybody who knows me personally or follows this blog knows why this is on the list. i. fucking. love. ducktales 2017. ive said a million times before that i think its like a perfect encapsulation of what a reboot should be, something that obviously has a lot of love and respect for the original that its rebooting, but isn't afraid to incorporate entirely new ideas or deviate from pre-established "rules" or roles of the previous installments/versions of the characters and story, so on and so forth. i think it blends the family sitcom and action adventure elements really well together, its got a great ensemble of charming characters, i think most of the over-arching storylines it sets up are executed really well and it has a lot of fun one-off stories. its not perfect but its damn near close, in my opinion. also as much as i hate disney the corporate i do still love donald duck hes the best legacy disney character ok american moment over
the secret saturdays: i was a HUGE fan of the show as it was coming out but didnt remember much of it as i got older until i rewatched it, whereupon i found out just how much it fucking holds up, oh my g0d. i genuinely cannot believe its not more popular considering its premise, and again i think the story and character writing really hold up !!!!!! it has fantastic twists, you are immediately endeared not just to the saturday family but a lot of the other supporting characters, its overreaching storyline is executed so so well especially when you consider it was unfortunately gutted and prematurely cancelled by CN. some parts of it may be a little dated but again i think for the years it was developed and coming out there are some elements that were kind of ahead of the curve. if you havent watched the secret saturdays PLEEEASE please do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im fucking begging you. its good
ben 10: i think ben 10 might be my white whale. for important context i was scared to death of the original series as it was actively coming out when i was like, 6 years old, only to get extremely invested in it and the "original universe" franchise in like late middle school/early high school, and then they fucking got my ass AGAIN as a current twenty-something. every time i think im out they fucking pull me right back in. i know its a dumb meat headed action cartoon for little children but the wasted potential in this franchise is nothing short of insane, i wouldnt be saying this if they didnt literally bring up certain threads and ideas in the show only to be like, actually who gives a fuck ! that being said its a premise that sticks with you forever. to quote that one post
Tumblr media
justice league unlimited: i dont post much about superhero cartoons on here but make no mistake they were hugely influential to me when i was a kid, my dad was and still is a huge marvel nerd but unfortunately for marvel (and my dad) their cartoon game was (and honestly, still kind of is) just aaaaabsolute trash, except for the ones about the x-men, but thats a ramble for another day. it wont surprise you to know a lot of the writing staff for the justice league and justice league unlimited cartoons would go on to work on the original ben 10 continuity so they have a lot of the same issues, but i would be lying if i didnt say jlu had a huge effect on my little baby brain, arguably maybe more than ben 10. why unlimited and not the original justice league cartoon of the aughts you ask ? well because jlu is hornier, and also booster gold is there
discovery kids favorites: this is technically cheating cuz its 3 cartoons, BUT ! i dont remember them enough on their own to put any one above the other. as a kid my mom hated cartoons (and honestly most tv programming aimed at children) and hated me and my sisters watching them in the room with her, or in general, for more than like 15 minutes a day, unless they were educational, and so i felt extremely clever for exploiting the discovery kids loophole bc they were cartoons made to teach you stuff. the ones i remember the most vividly and fondly were tutenstein, grossology, and growing up creepie, which i feel like honestly. says a lot about me. i should rewatch those sometime.
samurai jack: i will not argue against the fact that genndy tartakovsky is a tremendously talented individual, and a lot of his work has been extremely inspirational to me, that being said, if given the chance, i would drop an anvil on his head. i probably shouldnt say that but i cant express to you how much a lot of his work frustrates me and samurai jack really takes the cake. i cant even talk about season 5 but a lot of stuff in seasons 1-4 has problems that i feel like should be addressed, THAT BEING SAID, in spite of it all, i still fucking love samurai jack. i have fond memories of it from when i was a kid and during the collective resurgence it had as the 5th season was coming out, i cant argue that it doesnt have a lot going for it or pretend that again it isnt responsible for a lot of my own personal artistic inspirations.
class of 3000: I KNOW IVE BEEN POSTING ABOUT THIS A LOT LATELY BUT ITS NOT JUST CUZ OF THAT ! this last rewatch hasnt been my first, ive genuinely brought up this show to a lot of people both online and irl in the desperate hope other people remembered it because it was one of my absolute favorites as a kid and i remember the visceral feeling of how unfair it felt when i found out at like age 9 that it had been cancelled and there would never be another episode of it again. i think it just came into my life at the right place at the same time, i was both getting really into drawing and coming up with little stories myself and so the art and the cast really drew me in, and i had a music teacher at the time who was really into jazz and blues music and seeing that reflected in a cartoon i was watching was so cool :v] and again i just think so much of it holds up. its a gem i dont think should be hidden
spongebob (but only the first four seasons and the movie): im almost 25 so this is supremely unoriginal. its not that i think the newer/newest stuff is all bad its just that everybody gets one thing to be unreasonably blinded by nostalgia about and for me its early spongebob. the userbase on here is aging you all know what im talking about i dont need to explain this pick
the owl house: i really like the owl house for what it is ! its not for everybody, i know people tend to think it kind of skews towards "children's cartoon that is targeted for adults who still watch that stuff" but i think thats kind of cynical and not very generous to the cast and crew, i know the show got pitched around a bit before disney picked up on it but i dont think its fair to exclude the care and thought that went into re-adapting it for a broader and therefore younger audience, and the care that went into it in general ! i like its take on the fantasy setting, both the main and minor cast clearly have a lot of love and thought put into them, genuinely i think luz is maybe one of my favorite cartoon protagonists ever, the messaging it tries to get across i think comes from a personal place and is thus very earnest and sweet, and much like the secret saturdays i think its able to accomplish a lot in the limited time it was given. the whole show just feels like a labor of love to me and i just like the way that comes through !
since this was hard here are some honorable mentions:
batman the brave and the bold: wouldnt be fair to bring up a superhero cartoon and not mention this. i was pretty obsessed with this rendition of batman as a kid, unsurprising since i unironically loved the joel schumacher batman & robin movie and liked to catch the adam west batman re-runs they would play at the wee hours of the morning when i couldnt sleep, i think brave and the bold channels both of those a lot, its deeply stupid and kind of sucks in a lot of areas but thats also kind of part of the charm
3below: so i watched the first season of this before ever watching trollhunters, and while i recognize trollhunters is on a lot of levels the superior tales of arcadia cartoon i just like 3below the best. the stakes of trollhunters can get a little exhausting and i think 3below lets itself get a bit more goofy, plus its about a little group of "fish out of water" aliens !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love fish out of water stories AND aliens, what do you want me to do
fangbone!: real sofa fans remember my fangbone phase. ongoing actually cuz hes still my icon. its one of those cheaply produced flash canadian cartoons but from my perspective i think it was made by people who actually put more effort than was expected of them, which i like, and again its another fish out of water story, and the graphic novel its based on is also very cute
dwampyverse cartoons: phineas and ferb and milo murphy's law mostly ! pnf was very impactful on me as a kid and i loved the first season of mml. i think theyve reached a kind of oversaturation maybe ? that has made me juuust a little bit jaded about them, but i cant pretend like i still dont hold plenty of fondness for em in my heart
unicorn warriors eternal: see the above points about genndy tartakovsky in the samurai jack bulletpoint. the premise is a really cool one and the first season managed to be really good in ways i didnt think it would be but theres still the second season, so im scared. i hope its good. ive got the clown make up ready to go just in case though.
lastman: don't watch lastman. we all have our own cross to bear, alright, and this one's mine. i watched lastman, so you don't even have to worry about it, i mean i haven't finished the second season yet so i will, so don't watch lastman, please. im telling you as your friend, don't watch lastman. we all make mistakes sometimes, like for example, i watched lastman, both in french and english. if you watch lastman than my sacrifices will have been for nothing. don't watch it, and don't look up the comic either. im completely serious.
big city greens: im very picky about sitcoms and sitcom-type faire, but big city greens takes i think a very flat and tbh cynical gimmick and explores it with a lot of heartfelt earnestness, its hard not to be charmed by it. just pure comfort food tv to me.
danger & eggs: fun fact !!!!!! the cartoon that made me decide to make this sideblog !!! i keep meaning to revisit it, i would recommend checking it out if you havent before, both its premise and humor is very idiosyncratic and sweet to me, again its just another show that feels like it came very a place very near and dear to the creator's heart and i just always love to see that. if i had kids of my own which i never will i would definitely show it to them

Just gonna go ahead say I'm not gonna be posting or supporting the new SMITE Nickelodeon skins.
For those who don't know, the online game SMITE recently partnered with Nickelodeon to do some Nicktoons classic skins, including Rocko, Danny Phantom and Zim. However they refused to work with the original voice actor's union(s) and instead hired sound-a-likes at a much lower rate. Nickelodeon is also partially responsible for signing off on this deal. You can learn more on Richard Horvitz's and Rikki Simmons twitter (Rikki also mentions how they've both been mistreated by Netflix as well, which is a whole other can of worms) but anyway yeah, as excited as I was to see this, please don't support this game.

PLEASE talk more about ren & stimpy if you’d like to!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH It genuinely means a lot. Where do i even begin
american animation had been in like a complete dark age (save for a few bright moments) from like the late 60s through most of da 80s. at least in television: i don’t think there’s a lot of ways to create a great animated tv show bc the production process is so rigid and asks for boatloads of content to be released one after the other after the other. artists had to take a lot of shortcuts to keep up with the strict deadlines that were inherent to the very medium they were working in, and i think it rlly did a number on the quality of american animation. combine this w the fact that by the 80s Every tv cartoon was just an advertisement for a toy + animation had garnered a reputation of being for kids, and it rlly did look like the future of television animation was just dead
But then…… mighty mouse the new adventures 😼 created by THE ralph bakshi who made the first adult american animated film (fritz the cat is like a #1 favorite film of mine I love it to bits 😁), and was supported by a shitload of younger animators who had enough of working in what they saw as a hopeless medium. they let a lot of their anger and frustration out through the show, and they all kinda bonded through their shared cynicism and boredom lol. 3 of them, including the senior director of the show Who was also like. kinda bakshi’s protege (john k), decided to form their own studio, and the studio hereby declared as spümcø formed a couple years later through the addition of a final 4th co-founder
so like a little while after spümcø was created, a small company known as nickelodeon was looking for animators to create their own original cartoons. Some of the higher-ups at nick wanted to reach out to a large younger audience, and they noticed the manufactured state of television animation and thought that it was terrible entertainment for these potential viewers. nick held meetings with a lot of aspiring creators, and spümcø was one of the last of them: they got lucky as all hell, and before they knew they had one of the 1st nicktoons on their hands
Why did i tell you all this lol???? bc ren and stimpy was very much a product of its time And i think that made it so timeless: the anger and cynicism that essentially created the studio absolutely bled over to r+s and it absolutely shows. the creators have gone out of their way to clarify that its a show for kids bc of how controversial its content was, but i really dont think that was the case And i mean that in the best way possible. it was more a show for them: they got a chance to make the cartoons they had been waiting their whole careers to make, and they took it. the look of the show wears its inspirations on its sleeve, harkening back to early hanna-barbera tv shows and bob clampett’s warner brothers cartoons that the animators had grown up on (which is actually another reason why i think the show is cool… They purposefully avoided the artistic shortcuts i mentioned earlier!! This method definitely had its faults but it created a really beautiful looking show that appreciated that it was animated ya know); there were jokes and pop culture references, but they were in the form of non-sequiturs to old kirk douglas movies and burl ives songs that no 10 year-old was ever gonna understand; there were real emotions on display, but they werent overly syrupy happiness and the like, there was like genuine discomfort and horror at times. Im not fucking joking Heres a quote i found that sums up what i wanna say here its from an eric andre interview of all places
Tumblr media
(side note i first learned abt ren and stimpy because john k’s in the new year’s eve spooktacular. Small world)
this weird ass show came from a place of pure anarchy. It was very much a reaction to all the ways television animation had been wronged in the past, but it created this edgy and counterculturist show that helped bring life back to a medium previously considered dead, and it opened the gateway to countless other shows like it. for example, ren and stimpy also aired on mtv (which is so weird to think about. A nicktoon was on mtv) and the shows success was a reason why the channel agreed to produce mike judge’s short “frog baseball” into a full series, which obviously became beavis and butt-head. And without beavis and butt-head we wouldnt have like the past 30 years of adult animated television so there ya go
but also like! going back to that eric andre quote, that style of uncomfortable comedy mustve influenced a lot of modern comedies, at the very least because r+s helped make that style more mainstream. not to mention the shows gross-out humor, which was seen as sooooo controversial back in the day
I think im gonna stop here bc this is already long as is But this is only scraping the top of the barrel imo this show is so so crazy. its literally shaped the past 30 years of american pop culture imo but i feel like bc its a nicktoon nobody ever really acknowledges it, hopefully this like changes your mind idk I hope my ramblings make a semblance of sense
Anyways heres a quote about john k keeping horse teeth under his pillow as a kid

[Review] Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl (PS5)
Tumblr media
A strong—if barebones—platform fighter.
After Ludosity’s excellent and irreverent Smash-like platform fighter Slap City, Nickelodeon apparently asked them to make another using their cartoon properties. This would be a revamp of sorts for Nick’s long-running Super Brawl series of shallow browser- and phone-based fighters. Bringing on Costa Rican studio Fair Play Labs as co-developer, Ludosity turned out a solid contender in gameplay and polish, if not in features.
Tumblr media
Like fellow Smash clone Brawlout, their focus seemed to be on honing the fundamentals rather than adding bells and whistles, but as a primarily solo player the perceived step down from Slap City’s robust story mode was a disappointment to me. I love this genre, but I need something to do that will encourage me to keep playing. The only option is Arcade mode, a straightforward series of randomly selected 1v1 fights at five difficulty levels. Completing this with a specific character unlocks some gallery images and a jukebox track, and that's about it. At least there are a decent selection of settings to customise matches, as well as the return of Slap City's ball-based mode for some variety.
The game was even more barebones at release, but postlaunch free updates added some big features like items (sadly, items do not spawn in Arcade mode) and full voiceover for all characters (many of which are the original VAs reprising their roles). Two extra characters were also added, as well as three DLC characters, all with accompanying stages. Not a bad record of support, although improving the single player experience was evidently a development opportunity for the sequel which I plan to play soon.
Tumblr media
As a licenced game, NASB does a great job portraying its characters and locations. Compared to Slap City there's more detail to the art and animation and everyone looks great, which is an achievement when converting traditionally animated 2D designs into 3D (this can't be overstated, the game looks fantastic). The good-sized roster serves me well as a 90s kid with lots of classic Nicktoons along with other properties that Viacom has acquired (Garfield, TMNT), and even the few characters I don't really like or don't recognise have fun movesets. [Aside] I'm sorry but you could not pay me to be invested in the ninja turtles...! So I'm glad there's only two of them, avoiding the bloat that other Nick ensembles games suffer from by shoving all four of them in. Rant over.
The main reason I’m playing this now is as part of my current Avatar fixation, so having Toph in was a really cool choice alongside Aang and Korra, and their stages (the multi-level Western Air Temple, Omashu with its interesting layout and hazards, and Harmonic Convergence aka Final Destination) look amazing and have fun animated background details. Korra was my favourite, a straightforward heavy hitter with high-mobility specials.
Tumblr media
Which reminds me, I should talk about the gameplay. Like Slap City and Brawlout it’s streamlined a bit compared to Smash, but the way they’ve done it works well. The main difference is the removal of smash inputs and separate side attacks, with two distinct buttons for fast and strong attacks (both with aerial variants) in addition to specials. But they’ve kept guarding, grabs, and air dodging so it doesn’t feel too compromised. There seems to be a lot of depth with wavedashing and strafing and a paper-scissors-rock directional priority system if you want to get into it, but I think it still remains accessible. Maybe I can’t really judge that. What I will say is the basics are incredibly solid and polished, and I enjoyed playing around with different movesets. As always, it's fun to spot individual moves that are direct Smash lifts/homages as well as discovering the nuances of the new ideas.
Ludosity was a great choice to make a licenced game that's not crap, and Fair Play Labs appear to have ably assisted as well. They nailed the fundamentals of platform fighter gameplay as well as the authenticity and flat-out fun of seeing these characters in action (especially with the VO added in), making for a pleasing celebration of Nickelodeon's past. It's just such a shame that the game isn't more fully featured, which I assume was simply a time/budget reality. I guess that's what the sequel is for... I'll find out soon!

Let's Talk #TheCasagrandes: Season 3 Final Thoughts
Tumblr media
Time to start off 2023 with a belated final thoughts on the first Nicktoon to finish airing on Nickelodeon since 2016.
Tumblr media
(Seriously.)
For my thoughts on the final season of The Casagrandes, feel free to keep reading. There will be spoilers.
Like The Loud House, the third season of The Casagrandes went even further away from the show's supposed main protagonist. Ronnie Anne still showed up every once in a while, but would be relegated to either a supporting role, a single line, or simply not show up. The focus now expanded to feature not only the rest of the family but also her friends and the Changs.
Tumblr media
In a sad case of "too little, too late", the show also had proper crossover appearances with The Loud House. Lisa and Clyde showed up, the former without the lynchpin of either Lincoln or Lori.
Within the season, there were several great episodes.
Bunstoppable: The only episode to not feature any of the Casagrandes or Ronnie Anne, it is a hilarious fantastical story centering around the Changs.
Date With Destiny: The furthest the show ever explored Maria and Arturo's relationship, it is a good story with a semi-realistic ending.
Weather Beaten: It highlighted another notable piece of Latin American culture in the form of Tlaloc, the Aztec rain god.
Kick Some Bot: The first (and only) crossover with The Loud House to not involve Lincoln or Lori had Sid taking on Lisa in a robot competition.
Movers and Fakers: The unintentional Series Finale had Bobby moving out, setting up a new location with the unachieved possibility of more appearances by Lori.
By contrast, there were several duds.
Curse of the Candy Goblin: Of the show's many Halloween episodes, this was the weakest. There were a few good callbacks, but they could not make up for a very cliché story.
Phantom Freakout: The first (and only) time Lincoln and Clyde teamed up with Ronnie Anne and Sid (the latter in her final appearance to date), the episode felt tenuous for a half-hour. The premise could have worked much better as either a quarter-hour or as part of the graphic novels.
Salvador Doggy: Like with all of Frida's episodes, it had a few good jokes but not much else.
Silent Fight: A decent attempt at a silent episode that falters by not fully committing to the concept.
Alpaca Lies: A moronic episode harkening back to the "ignorant parent" cliché of the 90s. Had the show returned for a fourth season, Beto might have become Arturo's roommate.
As it unintentionally became the final season, there is a lack of finality with the spin-off. Bobby got the closest by now having his own place to live away from the family. It aligned with The Loud House by now having the oldest siblings living on their own, with the possibility of Bobby being demoted to a recurring role similar to Lori.
The characters have since been reintegrated into Season 6 of The Loud House. Their first appearance in "Great Lakes Freakout!" was overall great, with a good balance between the family and visiting Loud siblings. Had the show gotten a fourth season, it might have been its Season Premiere.
The third and final season of The Casagrandes built up on what came before by highlighting more characters and culture. While the family will continue to show up over on The Loud House, and possibly The Really Loud House, it will be an interesting challenge for the show to balance two whole sets of families.
In the meantime, there might be at least one more standalone adventure for the multigenerational Mexican-American family...
Tumblr media
The Casagrandes streams on Paramount+.
Until next time, thank you for reading and Happy New Year!

some thoughts on a path Vlad might have taken were Danny Phantom not a Nicktoon:
this AU (tentatively titled Mastered AU) begins in season 1 ep 7 "Bitter Reunions", which proceeds kinda like canon for the first half before going off the rails. this is all about how a more cunning, sneaky Vlad might accomplish his goal of becoming Danny's father.
step one: Vlad seriously turns down the obvious creep factor. openly hitting on Maddie or slighting Jack would make things more difficult for him in the long run, after all. Vlad's a billionaire CEO - he's got more than enough experience shorting stocks and forcing mergers to recognize the merits of not showing your hand early. he can behave for a while, if he must.
step two: once Vlad catches Danny shifting from ghost to human the night before the reunion, he throws away the whole 'Murder Jack' plan (for the moment). this means no Skulker, no halfa trap, and no more surveillance vultures. Vlad focuses instead on catching up with Maddie, and on befriending Danny and Jazz. he makes an effort to treat Jack like he did in college, pre-accident. without a big ol' ghost fight, the reunion proceeds as normal. Vlad relies on Jack's social difficulties to embarrass the kids and to frustrate Maddie. once Jack has made a real mess of things -- think 'makes unfounded assumption that a guest is possessed, then attacks them' level mess -- Vlad gently offers each of the non-Jack Fenton's his number and use of his home if things in Amity ever get to be "too much". Vlad could absolutely let get Jack arrested for assault, however, he'd find it more useful to talk the assaulted guest out of pressing charges, gaining Maddie's, Jazz's, Danny's, AND Jack's goodwill. Maddie is angry enough at Jack's blunder that she insists he sleep in the GAV.
Maddie, Danny, and Jazz all have separate conversations with Vlad before bed or during the night. in those convos, Vlad continues to portray himself as a supportive adult AND casually fishes for info on the Fentons' home lives. Vlad does not have a great chat with Maddie. their interests and senses of humor do not jive, she thinks his mansion is tacky, etc. Vlad begins to contemplate whether he still loves Maddie, or if like Gatsby, he's fallen for the idea of her. also in these night convos, Danny complains how messy the lab is, and how cleaning it is one of his chores.
once Vlad has all this new info, he throws himself into a new grand plan: Steal a Family. the parts of the plans are:
1. buy another mansion in Amity (neighbors w Sam would be optimal). have the home thoroughly inspected and ensure its safe and well-prepared for kids. begin the process to become a foster parent.
2. get closer with the Fentons and simultaneously try to make Jack look bad as much as possible (casually, sneakily tho - things like suggesting situations/events he knows Jack does poorly with). spend time with them, especially Danny (eg "My new mansion came with a big rooftop telescope. I don't know much about stargazing - perhaps you could come by and show me the ropes?")
3. publicly become a Trusted Adult to the Fentons. be a shoulder for Maddie to cry on (eg "Oh no darling, he forgot your anniversary again? How thoughtless! I'm so terribly sorry... maybe you'd like to join me and the kids at the movies to take your mind off of things?"). as part of this, help out when possible. offer to pick Danny up from school when Jazz is tutoring, or to take the kids to/from the mall when the Fentons are inventing. this establishes Vlad as 'family friend' or even 'honorary uncle' in the town's eyes.
4. once sufficient time has passed (3-6 mos... before s1e11 "Shades of Gray"), orchestrate a CPS report on the Fentons. maybe he mentions Danny's lab chores to another adult who then reports. maybe he overshadows Lancer and files one because of Danny's suspicious injuries and evasiveness. maybe he slowly helps Jazz understand the abusive elements of the Fenton house (contaminated food, unsecured dangerous lab equipment, Jazz's parentification, etc) and she makes the report herself. regardless of how, a report is filed seemingly without Vlad's interference.
5. CPS comes. by this point, Vlad has decided that Maddie is no longer the one he wants; Jazz and Danny are far better prizes. he doesn't defend either Maddie or Jack beyond an initial 'they're good people, i'm sure they're good parents!' but once informed of the allegations, is cooperative, quietly appalled, and outwardly guilty that he didn't do something sooner. CPS decides on the kids' immediate removal - who is their go-to emergency placement ? Vlad Masters, the family friend with a recent foster license.
6. profit. he's got the kids - all he has to do is keep them. now's the time for a reveal: in the interest of Trust and Honesty at home with his new wards, Vlad reveals his halfa status.
now, how well Vlad's plan goes is up in the air. how does Vlad prevent an early reveal via Danny's ghost sense? does Jazz see through Vlad's nice-guy persona? can he stick to these steps, or does he become invested enough in the kids' safety to call CPS early?
now that i've written all this, i have an alternate take: what if Vlad does a halfa reveal at the Wisconsin mansion while the others are sleeping? he could help cover for Danny's ghost fighting with a business internship after school, thereby ingratiating himself with his New Son from the get go.
the question hanging over this whole AU is: will Vlad remain evil underneath all his plotting, or will he change for the better as he 'fakes it til he makes it' to get Fenton Fatherhood? here are two scenarios: a) he's still evil lol. his power over Danny and Jazz means he can slowly twist them towards his kind of morality - and he does. b) Vlad realizes he's met his end goals and is actually, for once, happy! he resolves to do right by the Fenton kids and to try and preserve this newfound happiness at all costs.
anyways these are all a ton of ramblings! i'll nail down the timeline and what i want to happen in Mastered AU eventually. i have plans to use this idea in a longer-form fic, but i am tired and a slow writer lol. i'd love to hear others' thoughts on how a less-obvious Vlad might go about becoming Danny's (and Jazz's) father :]

“The road to crime ends in a trap that justice sets! Crime does not pay!”
That’s the character’s motto. He says it every episode.
Thanks to my need to stim bringing me back to Fallout New Vegas, I’ve been diving into old-timey radio plays, thanks to the “Old World Radio” mod. One of the radio shows included, is, well, it’s something.
The Avenger is, near as I can tell, a successful attempt by the creator of the Shadow to sell the Shadow twice. The Avenger is a somehow famous biochemist named Jim Brandon, who, in addition to mainly working as a personal CSI department for a single bumbling police detective, invented invisibility and a telepathy machine in his spare time.
He, of course, uses these gadgets to fight crime as the Avenger. The show is pretty forgetable, unless you’re a weirdo like me, in which case it is quite the opposite. Points of interests include:
The “Black light of Invisibility” Jim uses to turn into the Avenger, despite being called a light, is portrayed more as a mist or gas, complete with the activation sound-effect being very obviously one of the actors trying to make the sound of a pressurized canister opening with their mouth.
The Avenger’s telepathic gizmo is basically a ham radio they can sit by an monitor for flashes of thoughts from people who are being murdered or who are in states of deep terror. The broadcast provides a few context clues but never solves the crime on its own.
The Avenger’s preferred means of crime fighting is solving a case through careful detective work. Once he’s done that, he tends to make himself invisible, follow the baddie into an incriminating situation, and then scare them as a disembodied voice until the cops show up. Thankfully, people are very prone to confessing their crimes loudly to ghosts just as the detective walks through the door.
If you are wondering if invisibility is a thrilling power for a character on a radio program, it is not.
While he tended to fight murderers and blackmailers, the Avenger once battled a mad scientist who made an army of robots to harvest animal, and if he weren’t stopped, human, brains to create a giant amalgam super-brain for his ultimate robot.
He also thwarted a pair of scamming spiritualists from trying to claim a sort of prototype James Randi prize.
Despite being a vigilante, Jim gives more care to evidence and innocent until proven guilty than the cops, and rarely engages in combat.; He doesn’t really even break locks, he just follows behind people as they go through doors.
My favorite part of the show, however, is the sidekick. Like any good pulp superhero Jim needs someone to talk to (it is a radio program) and thus, there’s his beautiful assistant Fern Collier. She knows his secret, and they’re both clearly smitten with each other. They might as well be married but it was the 40s. I expect if they were written married she’d be expected to be at home.
She also has an amazing name for a beautiful sidekick character. She sounds like a supporting character in a mid-90s Nicktoon.
Fern is Jim’s assistant, and one would assume that means she’s learning biochemistry, but nope, he seems to be teaching her to be a detective. The thing he isn’t. At least not officially.
Fern as two main passions:
The first is celebrities. This is partially a division of narrative labor thing, so she can fill Jim in on all the details about actors and socialites that get offed or kidnapped so the audience can know who they are (Jim does the same with scientists and underworld figures), and partially part of her excited, kinda dingy personality. Being an autograph hound sometimes moves the plot along by getting her face-to-face with suspects.
More relatable to ladies today, I think, is Fern’s love of food. There’s a running gag of Jim dragging her to do undercover work at banquets, fancy restaurants and parties only for the crime to keep her from eating. She always comments on the spread anyplace they go, and most episodes end with Jim taking her out so she can make up for the meal she missed out on due to shenanigans.
Fern’s other job in the story is to get Jim to explain how he figured everything out at the end of the episode, in her role as apprentice detective. Fern’s own detective skills aren’t as sharp as Jim’s, she jumps to conclusions and usually suspects the red herring suspect, but that’s also exactly what the detective does, and Fern’s track record is better.
TLDR: As D-list superheroes go, The Avenger sure is one of them.
