“Hey, so, no offense or anything, but your boyfriend’s kind of a - ” Dylan narrowed his eyes as he searched for a word equal parts insulting and inoffensive, finding the perfect one as he watched Chris snap his bowstring in precisely the wrong way, flailing his hand back and forth in obvious pain, “ - goober.”
“As much as it pains me, I can only agree with you on one of those fronts,” Josh said, not bothering to follow Dylan’s line of sight towards the archery range but instead kicking his feet up onto the picnic table, readjusting the angle of his drawing pad. “It’s the goober front, by the way - though I’d go a little farther and call him a goddamn menace, if I’m being honest - not the boyfriend one. Cochise is the albatross around my neck and the light of my life, but my boyfriend he most assuredly...” he paused just long enough to narrow his eyes and add a few lines, “...is not.”
He tried not to look too intrigued as he turned back around and asked, “Oh yeah?,” but already there was a barb of a smirk tugging at the corner of Josh’s mouth, suggesting he wasn’t trying hard enough.
“Single and ready to mingle, Ives,” he grinned down at his sketchbook, “and that’s both a statement of fact and a threat.”

Not gonna lie, after playing “The Quarry” twice, the least believable part of the game is Laura and Ryan’s relationship. I can buy the werewolves, the old school freak show, and the obviously grown adults playing teenagers. But the way Laura and Ryan were written just seemed too far-fetched, especially when you consider:
1) Isn’t Laura with Max? Also, isn’t Ryan interested in either Dylan or Kaitlyn?
2) The relationship is incredibly forced. In my playthrough, I only antagonized Laura and even threatened to shoot her. And yet, she still thought Ryan was into her? So, what’s even the point of these dialogue options if you can’t actually influence their relationship (I guess, according to Supermassive Games, threatening to shoot someone and calling them a crazy murderer = obviously flirting with that person).
3) They literally just met.
4) The flirting goes nowhere. It wasn’t necessary to the story at all.
5) Laura thinking that Ryan was flirting with her made no sense. My reaction was exactly like Ryan when he called her out on this, because I’m not sure how one could assume that there was any flirting happening.
Just to cap this all off, it’s bad when I felt better chemistry between Laura and Travis Hackett than with Ryan. I know that there’s people in the fandom complaining about the Travis x Laura shippers, but at least I can SEE it happening instead of whatever was going on with Ryan.

supermassive halloween plotcall + tracker
hello everyone!!! now that the cat's out of the bag (joomi being signed to delta) i can finally make this plotting post. i have been WAITING for it to become public knowledge since obviously that will impact what he's up to this month. i like to put a plotcall together for all my muses at once, too, so this post is long overdue and will now be massive. i'll list what each muse is up to regarding the events they can participate in as well as trackers under the cut. please like this if you'd like to plot. plotting even for non-event stuff is also fine, we'll figure stuff out!

joomi is a studio delta trainee!! wooo!! exciting! he started october 11th, so he did have some time before that to do the halloween events around seoul. he actually worked at lotte world before becoming a trainee as well, so we could probably do something with pre-trainee joomi hatingggg his job working during the halloween stuff SDFSDGSDG. trainee joomi can probably only do festival stuf on sundays, unless there's stuff going on at like, 1 am. he'd honestly love to go. now he is also a trainee just in time for the TRAINEE HALLOWEEN EVENT which will be amazing. what a first impression right. joomi doesn't mind horror stuff but he's going to find the entire experience very strange LMAO but he might get into it!! fun bonding experience, right? he'll be a good sport about it even if he's probably quite stressed having to dance again after thinking he never would...honestly the halloween night in will probably be a welcome break for him.

[SPOILERS FOR THE QUARRY]
I’ve seen a lot of people upset that The Quarry’s ending was a little rushed and that none of the romantic character development panned out anywhere. Specifically that Ryan kind of rejects Dylan/Kaitlyn and that the Emma/Jacob plot is never resolved. And I have some thoughts.
1. Ryan is no less queer just because he chases after a woman. Is it WEIRD that Laura kind of flirts with Ryan and the game hints at this being the end game ship? Yes. It is. And it’s not good writing. But excluding that, Ryan going after a woman does not negate his previous feelings for Dylan. Or Kaitlyn. When it comes to AMAB people, so many people FROM THE LGBTQ+ want to automatically assign “gay” and leave no room for any other labels. Ryan can be interested in a woman and still be queer. He could be bisexual, pansexual, or anything else. It’s also not queer baiting. He doesn’t end up with anybody in the end, being single ≠ not gay. Stop that. (Before someone attacks me, I’m not saying “don’t ship Ryan/Dylan”. Read my actual post. I ship Ryan/Dylan).
2. The Jacob/Emma ordeal is bad writing. I’ll give you that. But it’s also realistic. Yes, we as the audience would have LOVED to see actual pay off in the end. Be it talking about their relationship or fighting or the revelation that Jacob sabotaged the car. That would’ve been great for US. But realistically, in this situation as a bunch of 18 year olds, that probably would never happen. They’re kids. They’re immature and young. And also their friends are being murdered. Jacob is separated from the group 99% of the time. He and Emma are both focused on surviving. Talking about feelings can wait.
3. Yeah I can’t defend the Abi/Nick thing. Is it realistic that Nick is never reunited with the group? Yes. Is it a shitty pay off and poor writing? Also yes. And unlike Jacob and Emma, it feels like the writers wanted you to get them together and then halfway through forgot about that whole subplot. Idk. I agree with the criticisms on this end.
4. It’s lowkey funny and kind of a power move that Supermassive Games set up these romance paths (Emma/Jacob, Abi/Nick, Dylan/Ryan/Kaitlyn) and then when the plot gets moving, separated them all. To the point that none of them see each other again after a specific point. Emma and Jacob never reunite, Abi and Nick never reunite. Dylan and Kaitlyn become a platonic power duo. And Ryan goes off on his own. Not only is that incredibly funny, but it’s also realistic. Romance isn’t the goal here. Surviving is. Is it poor writing? Depends, I’d argue yes and no. Does it leave the audience unsatisfied? Definitely. But I think we need to recognize why the writers intentionally split up almost every romantic pair (besides Laura and Max. But even that isn’t really a “good” ending).
It’s silly people are already arguing about this. (The irony is not lost that I say this and then make a whole post about it. I know, I’m part of the problem). Can’t we just enjoy the game?

I never scared Jacob before, so I decided to try it out for this replay and … it was honestly an adorable scene :) I love Emma’s and Jacob’s interactions so much. They’re horrible as a couple, but in an alternate universe, I can see them as friends :)
I admit I didn’t understand the wheelbarrow/wheelbarrel joke on my first playthrough and had to look it up, haha.
I never miss an opportunity to flirt with Ryan ;D
WTF WHAT WAS THAT ON THE CAMERAS?? I’VE NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE??
I like Rocky Road more than Shady Glade, but I’m going to the latter because I’m aiming for all clues and evidence :) I really wish all clues and tarot cards would’ve been saved between playthroughs …

Eliza is disappointed in me because I didn’t find a tarot card this time lol. Speaking off, how many did y’all miss on your first playthrough? I looked at every nook and cranny I could find, but still missed four cards (funnily enough, The Fool was among them XD). I'm quite proud for finding all other cards though :D
Ever since I’ve seen what happens if you don’t kiss Nick immediately, I always choose their heartfelt conversation instead :) I really wish it was the default option!
I’m going for “all counselors alive and infected” since I’ve never done that successfully before, so … sorry Abi :(

supermassive games: The Quarry SPOILERS
I’m gonna talk about the endings and the gameplay so...if you haven’t finished it and don’t wanna be spoiled, don’t read. I need to rant
I’m actually really disappointed in the ending. Like, okay, the Until Dawn ending was fantastic and chilling. Why? Because we got to see how messed up the group was after the events that transpired. Because we got general closure on the characters.
But with The Quarry we didn’t get that. It feels like the game completely glazed over Nick, Abi, Emma and Jacob.
Like...okay...so they’re all back to normal now and alive. Great. So...did Abi and Nick ever get to talk about what happened? Does she still like him? Does she trust him anymore? Is she afraid of him?
What about Jacob? His arc ending with him just crying in the forest is what has me the most disappointed. Like, he literally asked “hey, so uh what if I removed the rotary arm? oh and what does the rotary arm look like?” and then it shows the choice between saving the rotary arm or helping Abi.
And no one thought to question it. The rotary arm was never brought up again after it fell in the lake.
I honestly thought there was going to be a scene where Jacob confesses he had it on him the whole time, a really tense situation, but there wasn’t.
Jacob’s arc was just a joke. A failure.
Nick and Abi’s relationship feels like it was just shoehorned in for the drama and the shock value, because if it was important, why wouldn’t it be brought up again? But hey, gotta show that the werewolves are merciless and will attack (or kill) you no problem!
At least Jacob and Emma’s relationship did have some importance, since it was their summer fling that drove Jacob into keeping them all there for another night, even though Jacob abandons Emma twice. He could have jumped in the water after her when he was being attacked by the werewolf, but he kept running. In a way, that makes the whole point of the drama being included make even less sense.
And then the issue with Dylan- his hand was cut off. No one thought to really talk about it aside from Kaitlyn and Emma? Abi didn’t say anything? No one’s going to really ask him, or see if he’s okay?
And what about the relationship between Dylan and Ryan? Like, we get the context clues that both Dylan and Kaitlyn were crushing on him, but it ended up going absolutely nowhere. The flirting and ribbing was all just so they can be separated and not be seen in the same frames again anymore. It kind of felt like the game was just trying to get some LGBT brownie points.
The game itself, the plot, everything else, it was amazing. Very immersive and there were times I was even completely stumped, but? The game just falls so completely flat at the end.
I mean, ending with the podcast that Ryan listens to?
It literally just...went over everything we knew, but going over it in much less detail and more skepticism.
Maybe I’m just not a podcast-type of person but to be honest, I found the dialogue to be irritating and annoying. Give us a cutscene of them being arrested, or of them telling people about what they went through. Or maybe it could have ended with them all attending a police-mandated group therapy? That would have been much more interesting, and all of their issues with each other and all of the drama could have been solved.
I’d rank this game at about a... 7.5/10.
The ending is what killed it for me, personally.
