sunrise siblings
techno and niki grew up together in the nether, where their sounder is almost fully consumed by the rot. they run away with a few remaining kids. techno is the oldest, so he usually goes hunting while the others stay safe. he feels as though it's his responsibility to protect everyone since he was meant to become a brute. instincts and stuff. he's out hunting one day, then that day becomes two, then three, then forever and niki thinks she's lost her brother. years pass. most of the sounder has left or died by now, usually to the rot or ghast attacks. niki, the most experienced trader of them all, decides that if her brother, her best friend, is still alive, that he must be through the gate. he would've come back otherwise, right?
meanwhile techno is ruling an overworld empire, his partner by his side. and he has not forgotten about his sister, and he feels so, so guilty for leaving, but he was young. he wasn't intending to get captured. he fought in the arena for years, his skin now marred by endless strikes of the whip and the blade. phil saved him, and he is indebted, and he is grateful, and he loves his friend, the one who rescued him before he lost all semblance of sanity to the arena. the arena, which was never kind. the voices of his sounder, once the blood god's favorite, now in ruins, haunt his mind. and they call for blood, so he chases it.
niki steps through the portal, light brighter than that of the forests, or the ghasts, or anything she's ever seen before. the roof- is it a roof?- is a foreign color, so is the ground. there is no lava, but something different, flowing lakes and falls and rivers of some transparent substance. there are, not mushrooms but similar, things that shine like gold sprouting across the soft floor. she takes a few, wary at first, hoping that her brother will still love her, still accept her gifts and trinkets like he did long ago.
she does not find techno, not for a long time. but as she fears the rot setting in, she encounters a caravan who she has met once before, and they take her in, nursing her back to health. she travels with them for a while, though she never steps back into the nether. and when she stumbles upon the roots of a young rebellion, well, she finds some hidden part of her, the part that takes after her brother, calling out for blood and for glory.
years later, if she finds technoblade, she will pretend she does not know who he is, and when she is alone, she will cry. and if he almost dies one day, and if she reveals her identity then, and if they embrace for what seems like eternity, and if they slowly rebuild a long broken bond, that is not for us to know.

The idea that everyone saw c!Techno as a monster who killed everything in sight when in fact he was the one of the most human and reasonable characters in the entire server makes me just slightly crazy sometimes
It drives me crazy all the time and also thinking about how Techno managed to develop some of the most healthy and stable relationships out of almost anybody on that damn SMP and he did it with the people who actually went through the trouble of looking through those prejudices and actually listen to him and sdqkuiqdshdsqdusqdskjhjkqdshkjsqd

"Oh yeah, getting married for tax benefits!” Niki says. Techno nods. “That’s actually really big brain,”
“What are the actual benefits though?” Techno asks.
Niki waves her hand around. “I think if one spouse is in a lower tax bracket than the other, they bring the higher tax bracket spouse down with them,”
“Woah,” Techno says. “That sounds like a crime. That’s gotta be some kind of tax fraud”
“Yeah, and if I die, you get all my stuff tax free.”
“Considering I have to go bust Dream out of prison soon, that might be a good idea so if I like, die, you get all my resources I spent years grinding for. Tax free of course.”
“They’re gonna make me pay taxes on my dead husband’s stuff?” Niki starts laughing. “That’s the real crime.”

“I’m Niki!” She smiled.
The boy was taken aback at the sudden introduction, so random from a girl who appeared out of the sea.
“What were you doing in the water? Don’t you know that’s dangerous?” He asked, repeating his father’s words. She giggled.
“I was only swimming! Until, a rock flew right by my head,” She added. The boy’s face paled, realising he could have killed the first girl he’s ever actually talked to. Wait, was she a girl?
“Are you a girl?” He asked. Niki nodded.
“Yes, I believe.”
“I’m sorry for almost killing you with a rock.”
