hey hi hello, i’m not dead! i haven’t been posting any of my binds recently because i’ve been hella sick and i was in the midst of moving and my summer classes started :’) but im back now w a banger! this is Art Heist, Baby! by @otrtbs !! nat just got it so to fulfill my need for validation im finally posting it here! everything is handmade by me, headband is hand sewn, bookmark charm is glue and a rly small picture, and the typeset is by me!

im very emotional over fandom creators rn bc im very sick, but i just want to say my piece. as someone who has relied heavily on fanfiction and fanart and other fandom creations, i am forever indebted to the creators behind the works. nobody has an easy life, but my life has been made that much more bearable by the content these lovely human beings have made and shared with all of us for free!!!!

and these are real people taking time out of their lives to make literature that could outsell colleen hoover and leigh bardugo in a heartbeat. these are people who have dissertations to write, and full time jobs to work to support themselves. these are people who have just as many hardships and busy lives as the rest of us, but they’ve decided to devote their time and love and energy into making things and sharing them with the rest of us for free. they deserve so much respect and i am so happy to be able to give back even a little to the creators out there who have made such an impact on my life and so many others.

take a moment to appreciate the creator behind the creation and send your love to these amazing people who have helped us all in different ways, escaping our fears and lives for a minute, or encouraging us to keep going. i’m so sappy but thank you so much i love you all.

Science fiction and comic book author (and husband of The Empire Strikes Back co-writer Leigh Blackett) Edmond Hamilton wrote the bulk of Captain Future’s stories. However, he did not create the character as many sources would have you believe.

The good Captain was actually created by Leo Margulies and future Superman editor Mort Weisinger. Both editors at Better Publications, which began publishing Captain Future in 1940 after first announcing the hero at the very first World Science Fiction Convention in 1939.

Describe one creative WIP project you’re planning to work on over the winter.

Slightly boring answer, but I definitely want to crank out a serious amount of Invisible Girl draft 2 this winter! The tantalizing thought of having something concrete is at my fingertips and I cannot wait to see it through. :)

An Ember In the Ashes by Sabha Tahir! This series is one of my favorites to reread, featuring a political fantasy set in an Ancient Rome inspired world. Tribal storytellers, mythical creatures, loyal sacrifices, highly skilled fighters, a world ending event or two, and more await you here!

I went to Indianapolis last week and brought these three Baker paintings home with me. I’m a sucker for Indiana impressionists.

George Herbert Baker (February 14, 1878 – March 11, 1943) was an American Impressionist artist who worked primarily in the Richmond, Indiana area and was a member of the "Richmond Group" of painters. He worked in oil, watercolor and pastels. He worked for a time in Brown County, Indiana and is sometimes associated with that group of artists.

Born in Muncie, Indiana, Baker lived in Richmond and Centerville most of his life. He studied with John Elwood Bundy, at the Cincinnati Art Academy and the Boothbay Art School. In 1925 he was a visiting instructor at Miami University.

His work is represented in the collections of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Haan Mansion Museum of Indiana Art, Richmond Art Museum, Earlham College, Miami University Art Museum, Morrisson-Reeves Library, Centerville, Indiana Library and a devoted group of private collectors. A painting titled "November Meadows" painted during the time he was an instructor at Miami University hangs today over the mantle in the formal living room of the Miami president's home, Lewis Place. George Baker (1878-1943) was born in Muncie, Indiana and moved to Richmond, Indiana in his early teens. Considered a brilliant colorist, Baker demonstrated artistic ability early in his life. This interest in drawing landed him a job at the Gaar-Scott Company where like Charles Conner; he painted scenes on farm equipment. The farm equipment could be decorated with anything from pinstripes to completed landscapes. It was Mr. Scott who introduced Baker to the dean of the Richmond Group, John Bundy. In addition to art instruction with Bundy, Baker studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy and at the Boothbay Art School, Maine.

Baker was a charter member of the Richmond Palette club, serving as the president of the organization. His was known for his landscapes of all seasons and moods, painting nature around Wayne County. His daring use of bold color led to rumors of alcoholism, yet these cannot be confirmed. When asked about his use of color Baker responded, “I don’t paint nature the way it is. I paint nature the way I wish it was.” Considered to be one of the finest landscape painters in Indiana, Baker was invited to serve as a visiting instructor for two semesters at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1925.

Later in his career he worked in pastel and depicted marine scenes. Baker painted on the New England coast and in the mountains during the summer of 1931. In that same year, sixty oil paintings of Marine scenes and pastels were placed on display in the Westcott Hotel. He exhibited in Cincinnati, New York, Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis and various cities throughout Indiana and Ohio winning numerous awards including the Howard Spaulding Jr. prize of $100 at the Hoosier Salon Exhibition, Nye Prize, 1930 and the Muncie Prize in 1910. Baker was a prominent local artist of his time and influenced many Hoosier artists. Artists that studied with Baker include Harry Townsend, Zeb E. Pottenger, Lawrence McConaha and Howard Leigh. 🥰 Tension and Tonic (Zenaidamacrouras1) - 78K, cellist!Bucky/artist!Steve, one night stand that develops feelings. Mostly hilarious, with some fantastic characterizations, especially of the supporting characters. Fic does go to some pretty dark thoughts very briefly but ultimately the vibe I ended up with was much more on the funny side of the scale.

Welcome back to another autumn mini reading challenge! Like last year, this is a shorter one to bridge the gap between our longer summer and winter challenges 🍂

name(s): helena! I'm no longer fussed about the pronunciation, I swear I've heard every iteration that is humanly possible. (it's phonetic. work it out people)

pronouns: she/her

# of siblings & fun facts about them (if you have any): I have one sibling and we're super close. I'm a few years older than them and as such have successfully indoctrinated them into loads of my interests, and we love watching period dramas together - especially ones for 'old ladies' like Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife

# of pets & their names: I don't have any pets anymore, but I used to have 2 ginger cats - they were brothers named George and Jasper

fandoms: SOOOO many so I'm gonna have to shortlist - HBO War, A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones/House of The Dragon, The Terror, Star Wars, Shadow and Bone/Six of Crows, Ted Lasso, BBC Ghosts, Doctor Who, Lord of The Rings/The Hobbit, and about a hundred different period dramas

favorite color: green!

favorite song: I think I'll have to go with I Know The End by Phoebe Bridgers - literally nothing hits quite like it

favorite author (of anything readable-- books, fanfics, zines, webtoons, whatever!): Leigh Bardugo is the author I've read the most of, but I also really love Taylor Jenkins Reid, her characters and writing style are really easy to engage with. I'm really getting into R.F. Kuang's books at the moment, as I'm currently reading the second book in the Poppy War trilogy.

hobbies: writing is ofc a big one, but I've always really loved art too! I've been acrylic painting for about ten years, which has enabled me to develop my skills in a way I'm really proud of, and I've recently started doing digital art too. I'm still trying to find my footing with that, and it'll take a lot of practice, but hopefully someday I might draw something good enough to post

favorite fic type: I love angst and fluff equally, it's all dependent on the character(s) I'm reading about or the mood I'm in tbh

favorite holiday: Christmas!!! I'm a Christmas girlie until I die, nothing else comes close

do you have any partner(s)? (romantic, qpp, anything!): nope

fun facts about you / anything extra you wanna share!: Wasn't sure if I should include music under fandoms, but it's a huge part of my life, so I thought I'd ramble about it here. My favourite artists are Hozier, Florence + The Machine, Phoebe Bridgers/Boygenius, and Taylor Swift (Who I'm going to see live this summer!). But I listen to music almost constantly, I literally can't do anything without it, whether I'm writing, working, or just walking around, music is an absolute life-saver to me
