charles would definitely be the most meticulously detailed researcher - like hello that man has been writing notes in his little notebook since his baby sauber days while max would be a trainwreck with his research but still be able to spout any random fact off the back of his head
charles has gone through and numbered every single page of his paper logbook where he writes down any thought he has and it matches perfectly to an notion page which is backed up, synced and is linked to his zotero which is perfectly organised into folders by research subject, year, then alphabetical last name
max knows this VERY important piece of science from a paper he printed out three years ago but he can't find the actual paper itself amongst the loose pages of a million other papers and calculations that litter his desk.

Things I learned so far in College Guidance:
I. The VARK System
A. Visual, Aural, Read/Write, Kinesthetic (movement)
1. Find what works for you and apply different methods like
ex) writing notes on paper, podcasts, exercising
II. Time management
A. Time elasticity
1. Time is elastic: we can stretch time, not make it.
a) use the time (even the littlest second of it)
2. If you just do 20 minutes of anything, you’re automatically better than most people.
3. Do things that help you reach your ultimate goal
a) be reasonable, reject things that don’t help if they are optional.
III. Memorization
1. Attitude helps a lot.
a) we’re more likely to learn something if we like it.
1. We all have the skill to memorize.
2. The bizarre method
a) associating bizarre images that relate to something you want to memorize to a body part
3. How to deal with short term memory
a) recite it and repeat it
b) make it important
c) relax
4) make it a game!

Happy Queer Media Monday!
Today: The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
Let’s finish Pride Month with a crowd pleaser, shall we
(All four copies of the official English release, along with my faithful Pride bat plushie.)
The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System, originally a webnovel, is the first work of bestselling Chinese author Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, better known on the Internet as ‘MXTX’. It is part of the danmei (gay love stories written mostly by and for straight women) and wuxia (very strongly simplified, the Chinese equivalent of Western high fantasy) genres, and kind of parodizes both.
The story is about a young nerd, who just finished reading a male powerfantasy harem story for the monsters, and is very upset about the sloppy worldbuilding. Upon choking to death on a dumpling, he gets sucked into the story, and is forced to take the role of the main villain, Shen Qingqiu. A mysterious “system” in his mind prevents him from straying too far from the original plot, and gives him challenge after challenge, forcing him to manipulate the story he is now part of. When Shen Qingqiu starts showing kindness to the young protagonist instead of abusing him, the boy immediately falls in love with him, causing the story to mutate in unexpected ways.
MXTX’s work gained a huge following after her second book, Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation got adapted to a very successful drama. People appreciate her writing because it is genuinely very clever, and she understands well the genres she’s working with. As with all danmei, The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System is a bit visibly catered towards a straight female audience, but it is also a very fun and entertaining parody that has a lot to say about both society and the fantasy genre.
The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System has been, among other languages, completely translated to English and published in four parts. It is also partly adapted to animation.
Queer Media Monday is an action I started to talk about some important and/or interesting parts of our queer heritage, that people, especially young people who are only just beginning to discover the wealth of stories out there, should be aware of. Please feel free to join in on the fun and make your own posts about things you personally find important!

hey if ur a student at a college/university in the US and things on the administrative end seem to be running slow or hmmm, poorly: the answer is probably because (like in many, many industries) staffing shortages have been a problem in higher education since the start of the pandemic. part of this is because higher education generally pays less than the private sector with the tradeoff being better benefits but in the case of the university i work at, now that the pandemic is ""over"" (lmao) leadership has been extremely reluctant to let most staff work from home more than one day a week, if at all, and suddenly those benefits don't feel as worth it in favor of a job that 1) pays better 2) lets you work from home. it means that in some departments, people are quitting at a higher rate than they can train new people (and as anyone in higher ed will tell you, most jobs take about a year - a full admission cycle - to really learn). in the case of the department i currently work in, we had a complete turnover of academic advising staff, meaning that when myself & my coworkers started this summer, there was literally no one in our program left to pass on institutional knowledge. this unfortunately creates a cyclical problem where departments are constantly understaffed and overworked, and people are quitting because they're not being given very flexible work options and they're suffering from burnout. one of my coworkers just got saddled with another entire program's worth of work, because the coordinator running it left and they're still looking for someone new, and after a certain point, there simply are not enough hours in the day to get to everyone and everything in a timely manner
i see it happening all over the university i work at. this is by no means a problem unique to this school OR higher ed but if ur a college student and you interact with administrative staff at all: ask how theyre doing. maybe offer them a treat. they are probably dealing with more work than they can handle at the moment
