FOTD #108 : blue roundhead! (stropharia caerulea)
the blue roundhead is an agaric fungus in the family strophariaceae :-) it grows as a saprophyte in meadows, roadsides, hedgerows, gardens, & woodchip mulch in both europe & north america !!
the big question : can i bite it?? nah, it is inedible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
s. caerulea description :
"fruit bodies have conical to flattened caps measuring 2–7.5 cm (0.8–3.0 in) in diameter. they usually have a low, broad umbo. the colour of the cap depends on its age, ranging from pale blue-green to yellowish-bluish green. there is often a whitish zone around the margin, which invariably has bluish-green tints. when moist, the cap is sticky with a cuticle that may be readily peeled; dry caps are smooth & shiny. gills are initially pale purplish-brown, becoming darker brown in age as the spores mature. they have an adnate or sinuate attachment to the stipe. the stipe has a short-lived annular (ring) zone."

Shaggy scaley cap fungi sketch | Limited edition fine art print from an original drawing. Pholiota squarrosa, commonly known as the shaggy scalycap, the shaggy Pholiota, or the scaly Pholiota, is a species of mushroom in the family Strophariaceae. My sketches start life as hand-drawn graphite images made on cartridge paper. I often work on these with charcoal, oil pastel or Caran d'Ache to create the look I'm after. The artwork is then scanned and finessed digitally ready for fine art printing. This process often referred to as Giclée printing uses the highest standard of printing methods to give gallery quality results that maintain all the details of the original sketch. The graphite pencils I use are Faber-Castel, the oil pastels are Sennelier and the china-graph is Caran d’Ache. The inks are pigment based archive quality (100years+). The heavyweight specialist papers I use are of the best professional quality having a wonderful surface designed specifically for fine art drawings and illustrations. Very limited editions with only ten per size printed. All artwork is signed and includes a certificate of authenticity. The A5 are 5.8" x 8.25" (14.8cm x 21cm) The A4 are 8.25" x 11.7" (21cm x 29.8cm) The A3 are 11.7" x 16.5" (29.8 cm x 42cm) The A2 are 16.5" x 23.4" (42 cm x 59.4cm) Frames not included in price. Free shipping on artwork to UK destinations.

Stropharia aeruginosa or S. caerulea. by Steve Covey Via Flickr: A very distinctive species with it's blue/green colour! I found a group of this growing alongside the main path leading into the wood. Unfortunately many had already been trashed by dogs or walkers....Almost impossible to tell these apart by eye or photo. Great Wood, Stanton Park, Swindon, Wiltshire, UK. 2011-11-15. See where this picture was taken. [?]

the cinnamon cap (also brick cap, chestnut mushroom, brick top, red woodlover or kuritake) is a mushroom-producing fungus in the family strophariaceae. it has been discovered in europe, the US & japan, but may even be more widespread :-)
the big question : can i bite it?? well, that depends !! in the US & japan, it is considered edible & choice. however, in europe is considered inedible - some even claiming it to be poisonous.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
h. lateritium description :
"the cap is 3.5–10 cm in diameter, usually with a brick-red colouration in the centre and a paler margin. it is smooth, sometimes with red-brown flecks in the middle & sometimes with flaky veil remnants, which can easily be washed off in the rain, on the outside. the gills are crowded, starting yellowish and becoming greyish with age. the stipe is light yellow and darker below."

Discussing The Various Popular Mushroom Strains, Their Effects And Dosage
There are more than 180 varieties of mushrooms that contain psilocybin and psilocin, the alkaloids responsible for the psychoactive effects. They are popularly called "magic mushrooms" and are perhaps the best-known and most influential psychoactive fungal variety in the collective cultural imaginary.
The different varieties of psychoactive mushrooms, also known as magic mushrooms, which contain psychoactive alkaloids such as psilocin, psilocybin and baeocystin, belong to the Strophariaceae and Hymenogastraceae families of basidiomycete mushrooms, of the order of the Agaricales. The most common and well-known genera that produce species that contain these alkaloids are Psilocybe and Panaeolus.
Some of the best-known species are the Albino penis envy, Golden Teacher, Penis envy mushroom, Psilocybe Cyanescens and, above all, the Psilocybe cubensis, of which there are dozens of varieties such as the B +, Ecuador, Mazatapec, and a long etcetera.
Psilocybe mushrooms have been used by different cultures for their intoxicating effects, particularly in the Mesoamerican Aztec peoples of pre-Columbian times and later among the Mazatecs and Zapotecs. Effects
Psilocybin mushrooms produce psychoactive effects in humans very similar to the rest of classic psychedelics such as LSD and mescaline. Most users describe the experience as an internal journey, going through different phases with different effects. The first effects usually begin to be perceived earlier than with LSD or mescaline, and by 30 minutes after ingestion, they can be appreciated. The maximum effects are usually established between 60 and 90 minutes after ingestion, and last for about two hours before beginning to diminish. The total duration of the experience is around 4 to 6 hours, depending on the dose. Dosage The doses of pure psilocybin are as follows:
·         Microdose: <4 mg
·         Low dose: 4-8 mg
·         Average dose: 6-20 mg
·         High dose: 20-35 mg
·         Very high dose:> 35 mg
The doses of mushrooms vary depending on the species, its state of conservation, whether they are fresh or dried mushrooms and other factors, so adjusting the doses of mushrooms is always imprecise. Usually the doses for common varieties (P. cubensis and similar) of dried mushrooms are the following:
·         Microdose: <0.25 g
·         Low dose: 0.25-1 g
·         Average dose: 1-2.5 g
·         High dose: 2.5-5 g
·         Very high dose :> 5 g
So if you are looking to buy any high quality mushroom strains online, whether it is Albino penis envy, Golden Teacher, Penis envy mushroom, or Psilocybe Cyanescens, then you would want to consider Trippy Mushies once and for all. Visit and explore the website www.trippymushies.com and see for yourself how this Oregon-based psychedelics online store is the answer for you.
