@westbrookwestbooks and I are massive bookworms and today we got to experience the Philosophy Hall at Strahov Monastery in Prague. It is a must do visit whilst visiting Prague and I’m so glad it was recommended to us!
It’s a bit of a way out, so we caught an Uber. Also a heads up, it isn’t disabled friendly at all, there are a lot of steps and to get to the library you have to go over cobblestone which my wheelchair struggled with, but it was worth the pain I’m now in.
These pictures were taken with my iPhone 14 pro and I have to say that I’m pretty impressed with the quality.

Tradition: Keepers of Ancient Manuscripts.
Jan Pařez takes care of three thousand rare handwritten books in the Strahov Monastery near Prague Castle. The oldest specimen dates from the 9th century. For almost nine centuries, the monastery of the Premonstratensian order has looked down on Prague from Strahov. And the local library, which is one of the most beautiful in Europe, has been operating for just as long. When most people hear its name, two wonderful historical halls come to mind - the younger Philosophical and the older Theological ones. The second one, which is captured in our introductory picture, was created in the early seventies of the 17th century. It is the oldest part of today's library, and as its name suggests, mainly church literature is stored in the shelves around the perimeter of the hall. For example, most of the northern wall is occupied by various editions of the Bible. These are valuable volumes, but the rarest specimens are hidden from the eyes of ordinary mortals.

So I was watching Outlander ( yes started late) and one of the locations was the above and I could not stop thinking, should there not be a dragon/gargoyle on the upstairs landing? So in the series, it is supposed to be a library in France, but its actually a Library in the Strahov monastery located in Prague, Czech Republic
What do you guys think? Is this place perhaps the inspiration for the unnamed bookstore in OM?

What's ur favorite library to go to? What's the library you've always dreamed of going?
Hmmm the main library of the public library in Vienna is a library I enjoy being in, other than that a bunch of libraries of the university library are near and dear to my heart (the sociology & politics one for the books, the law library for the view, the main library because the reading room is pretty).
I'm not often in the national library of Austria, but she's without a doubt one of the most beautiful libraries.
As for a library I've always wanted to go to...
I have a list 🙈
Library of the abbey melk
Benedikt admont library
Library of the abbey Kremsmünster
Library of the abbey St Gallen
Library of the monastery Maria laach
Library of the monastery wiblingen
Herzogin Anna Amalia library
National library prague
Strahov library Prague
Szabo ervin library budapest
Diocesan library Eger hungary
Girolamini library naples
Bibliotheca nazionale di napoli naples
At the top of my list is probably the library of the abbey melk.
ALSO!!! There's a library in Canada where they bring dogs to help stressed students, that's a very strong contender as well.
Hbu?

Prague - Day 2: The Strahov Library
Tumblr media
@ask-ruki-mukami wanted to take a selfie with me in the front of the library~
Do you have certain places where you want to visit whenever you travel somewhere? For me, libraries are such. If they are historical, it's even better. Of course, modern libraries can be beautiful and worth to see as well, but, to be honest, I just like old buildings more. It's like walking into the past.
So... Ruki wanting to visit Strahov library was like a dream come true. Of course, I wanted to go there too.
The library used to be a monastery and looks like a castle. I totally fell in love with it in the first glance. Such a beautiful building. I can only imagine what it would it be like working there. We actually talked about that with Ruki. It's an intriguing idea but I... I don't think it's possible for real. But maybe I could spend a writing retreat there some day.
We took our time and roamed through the library. It's huge and there are more books you can read in one lifetime. Of course, Ruki has more time than that... and um... We'll see. It could be that... me... too... Well, I guess that's the matter I shouldn't be talking about just yet. It feels too huge to write down.
Anyway, I loved the atmosphere! The dark academy vibes! I totally want something similar to our house in Romania. Our library is still work in progress, so this place can totally be used as inspiration when we get started with interior decoring~
There was on interesting-looking book but it was written in Latin. Even though I used to study the language back in the high school, that book was way too difficult for me to read. Ruki translated a tiny bit of it for me... and suggested that he could teach me more Latin. His methods... sounded... hmm... interesting. Yeah... Let's not go into details of that.
Later, Ruki also read me another book and then we roamed a little more through the library. Such a pleasant and quiet day... after which we hurried back to the hotel to relax~
