a very specific headcanon i have that i've just written into one of my longer wips (so you won't see the scene for an age) is that john is kinda a dick abt food and dean's eating habits. and he's just. so oblivious to the amount that his kids are suffering when he's gone. because dean sure as hell is not gonna bring up how the money is never enough, how they're near starving toward the end of some weeks. how they've relied on charity more than once. so when john comes back and gets them big full meals and dean especially practically inhales his food (bc he's hungrier, bc he's given more of his portions to sammy) john chides him to slow down, it'll make himself sick etc etc. but dean struggles. and he's always SO eager for burgers and pie and carb-y filling things. because he's starving. but he gets a reputation for "eating junk." john teases him for it. or berates him for it when he's feeling especially mean. when dean's older, stanford era, and they meet up for a hunt and get lunch dean still digs into his food a little too quickly, he asks the waitress for pie with a little too much gusto, and john shakes his head, laughing, saying it's a good thing dean's a hunter, it's a good thing he's got the grueling work to keep him fit or else all those burgers and pies would've definitely caught up to him by now. laughs at how dean still eats too fast, "you've done that since you were a kid. never grew out of it, huh?" and dean bites his cheek, bites back a remark about why he always ate so fast, why he's still always squirreling away food and jumping at every "free food" "free samples" opportunity even now when money is easier to come by

10. how has writing positively impacted your mental health or overall mood?
I've always been excited to share my story ideas with people, for as long as I can remember. Being able to post something in public, where people can read it and I can look at stats and see how far my stories have spread throughout the world? Honestly, I sometimes wonder if the joy that brings me is what people feel when they practice their religion lol... is this what real Awe feels like?
I'm happier when I'm working on a project. I miss it when I'm not working on a project. So I'd say the last 10 years I've been writing are the happiest I've ever been without chemical intervention :)
19. If you could write an ideal fic, what would it include?
I think I build fantastic worlds, and I'm great at dialogue, so I feel like I'm already doing well there. But I don't like my prose. If I could write an ideal fic, I'd remember to describe settings, but I'd do it in a way that makes people feel like they're there in the moment. I'd know the themes I want to express and work them in.
Maybe from the outside it seems like I'm already doing that. I get a lot of positive comments to that effect. But from the inside, I'm not doing those things. I am not as eloquent outside of dialogue as I want to be, and I'm always flying by the seat of my pants. Most reviews I see of my work talk about themes and metaphors in my writing that I absolutely did not intend, and wish I had lol
But I suppose the pinnacle ideal would be to make people Feel Things, and I know I succeed there, so maybe I'm doing alright after all :)

Outsider POV. Snapshots from the Great Winchesters (and Castiel) Lifelong Road Trip.

They came into the Starbucks around 8:20 a.m., two rugged men, one dark haired, stoic and thoughtful, the other sort of blond, larger-than-life and full of laughter, attached to his friend at the hip. They ambled up to the end of the line, the loud one garnering stares at his continued punning, laughing at his own jokes as his friend furrowed his brow and squinted at the menu.
Bailey couldn't stop flicking her eyes back to the two men as she took the orders of the customers at the front of the line. Two americanos, one plain black drip.
The way they interacted with each other was easy; the blond explaining the differences between drinks with about an inch of space between his mouth and his friend's ear.
A vanilla frappe.
The bell on the door jingled as another, even taller man entered and went to stand by the pair. Now within earshot of them, Bailey heard him say, "Can you order me a latte with oat milk? I'm gonna run to the bathroom."
The blond one snorted. "Dude. That's such a fruity ass drink. You gonna Instagram it too?" He mimed taking a picture with the hand opposite his friend.
The other man rolled his eyes and smiled gently, clearly used to the teasing. "Whatever, man."
As he loped away in the direction of the restroom, it was finally their turn to order. Bailey greeted them with a smile. "What can I get started for y'all?"
"Uh, yeah," the blond started, an impish smile gracing his face. "Can I get a, uh, venti flat white, a 16 ounce black coffee - dark roast - and a latte with oat milk?" He made a face at the last item.
"Sure thing," Bailey said, tapping the screen in front of her quickly. The dark-haired man leaned in and whispered something in the blond's ear. Flat white, dark roast...
"What size was the latte?" Bailey asked, feeling weird about interrupting the shared moment but needing to do her job.
"Uhhhhhh," the blond thought aloud. They were sure awful close to each other. They overlapped, the blond standing just barely behind the dark-haired one. Bailey realized that he seemed to have his arm around his friend's waist.
Oh. They're light in the loafers, Bailey thought. Just then, their other friend emerged from the bathroom.
"Sammy!" the blond called across the cafe. "What size?"
Sammy reached his friends' side quickly. He smiled down at Bailey, all shining white teeth against his tan skin. "Grande, please." The pair turned away to find a table. The blond had his hand in the other's back pocket, whispering mischievously to him.
Bailey found herself blushing, and she wasn't sure if it was because of the public display of affection or Sammy's smile. She told him the price and he sighed upon realizing his friends had sneaked away to make him pay for their coffee. Just Sam, he gave his name as, and went to join his friends.
As Bailey made their drinks, she kept an eye on them over the counter, trying not to stare. Didn't get a lot of gay people in this small town. They seemed happier than most married churchgoing couples she knew. In a way, she envied their freedom. They clearly weren't worried about the looks they were getting from the Bible study group sitting by the fireplace.
Must be nice, she thought as she set their drinks on the pickup counter. "Sam?"
He raised himself from the table where they had been arguing halfheartedly over someone's cell phone about where to stop for lunch. "Can I get a drink carrier for these?" he asked, giving her that same white-toothed smile as he didn't even have to check if they had come to help him.
"'Course," Bailey complied, fetching him one from under the counter.
"Thank you," he said smoothly. "Hey, sorry if my brother is being kind of loud," he said sheepishly as he secured the drinks into the cardboard holder. "Noticed some people giving us looks."
"I don't think that's why," Bailey said before she could stop herself, and clapped a hand over her mouth in horror. "I'm sorry-"
"No, it's okay." That smile was reassuring now as he took the drink carrier into his hands. He looked back at the table, where his brother was still chatting animatedly with his partner, who sat there with a small smile on his face, just listening. He looked peaceful. "I know, it's a small town. They just... don't care I guess. Never been ones to shy away from judgement."
"Devil-may-care, huh?"
"Yup. Thanks, uh," his eyes flicked down to her name tag. "Bailey."
Her heart fluttered. "'Course. Have a great trip, Sam."
He went back to his brother and his partner and the three of them headed for the door. Sam's brother's hand found its way back into the pocket of his partner. Bailey could've swore she saw him wink at the Bible study group.

i don't see anything specific about Ellie in the linked post, but sure, yeah. i think show Ellie is a wholly different character, basically, one i personally find way less interesting. the creators have repeatedly stated, offscreen and on via other characters as mouthpieces, that hbo Ellie has a violent core. this is nothing like her in-game counterpart, who suffers from terrible survivor’s guilt and is horrified by Joel’s violence (which the show also shies away from to make him more palatable), and i feel like after a point, Druckm was intentionally pushing things further from the original to take full, nuance-free ownership of it, with the intention of aligning the narrative better [??? somehow] with his beloved solo outing TLOU2, [which i wrote criticism of here. spoiler: i think it’s a miserable, self-important slog] the events of which will comprise s2+.
anyway, given what we saw in HBO TLOU, it seems likely to me the now uncredited Bruce Straley had a far larger role shaping the narrative of TLOU than Druckm cares to admit, and i simply do not vibe with Druckm+Cmaz's storytelling: constant efforts to overtly manipulate the audience, rather than focusing on their characters. (i had the same issue with TLOU2. nothing inherently wrong with it, but for me personally i find it annoying when a story keeps grabbing at me, the viewer/reader, like hey check this out. look, look at it LOOK. it's like, i'm already looking. tell me a damn story.)
