When you suddenly remember a book detail that satyrs can sense emotions which means Grover had to have some kind of warning that Percy was gonna pull that switcharoo stunt.

You are frightened. It’s all right, Percy. Your father sent me to tell you, it’s all right. Just breathe. Your father is here. He’s always been here. It is so hard for him to stand back. To see you struggle. It is so hard for us all. But he’s here. And he’s so very proud. Trust him. Trust yourself. Just… breathe.

Okay I mentioned this in my initial reaction post but man I need to discuss it more cause they changed the St. Louis fall scene and now it feels like a parallel to the Tartarus fall scene
in the book, iirc, the St. Louis arch thing was Percy deliberately jumping and falling directly into the river below (because of a misplacement of the arch in the text), and not much emphasis was placed on getting Grover and Annabeth out of there, (I don’t think echidna revealed herself and the chimera until after Annabeth and Grover had left?). Also they were there not because of any Athena reasons, it was just a thing Annabeth wanted to do during a train layover
Now the changes they made were largely to fill out Annabeth’s relationship with Athena and correct where the arch is irl and stuff, but now the framing feels like the Tartarus fall
With the emphasis on Annabeth’s relationship with Athena and “the arch is her temple” makes it feel much more like the mark of Athena quest, then you get percy deliberately saving Annabeth from danger (much like him grabbing her to keep her from falling into Tartarus). And then Percy falls after not being able to hold his grip as opposed to jumping, and then the river grabs him much like the move he pulls off in HoH to cushion his and Annabeth’s landing.
So yeah. I really loved this.

PJO TEASER TRAILER BREAKDOWN
Tumblr media
Percy on the empire State building elevator! One fun thing I noticed here is that he's wearing annabeth's beaded necklace (with her father's ring) along with his own 🥺
Tumblr media
Ares fight ares fight!
Tumblr media
Percy walking into cabin 3 for the first time! At first I thought might have been him going to see the Oracle given the bones.... and how spooky it looks.... but the windows and pillars match what we see of cabin 3 in the previous trailer. Man Percy wasn't kidding about how empty his cabin is
Tumblr media
Based on the helmets, I'm assuming this takes place sometime during capture the flag
Tumblr media
This has gotta be medusa
Tumblr media
We all know what scene this is ;)
Tumblr media
Originally I thought this was after the bus exploded and they were just wandering, but given it's a pine tree and the weird, almost human, shape of the trunk.... that's Thalia guys ;-; So this shot is from the very beginning of the quest right as they're leaving camp
Tumblr media
Not sure exactly when this is, but I'd bet it's at camp halfblood after Percy wakes up
Tumblr media
This shot has given me quite the headache. The next shot has to take place in the arch, but this one looks so similar to it I can't decide whether or not they're intended to be in the same location. But honestly, given the fact that the windows don't look anything like the inside of the arch (though of course they could just not care about realism there lol), the fact we've got Annabeth's stabbing something (though again, maybe it's not 100% faithful), and the way that it seems unlikely they'd put two shots from the same scene back to back in a trailer, I'm thinking this could be on the bus with Mrs. Dodds.
Tumblr media
This shot definitely takes place in St. Louis arch due to the curving of the floor and the big ol' monster.
Tumblr media
Minotaur attacking the car scene :( There's Percy's mom :(
Tumblr media
Based on the location, I'm pretty sure this takes place around the same time as the Ares fight

My thoughts on Ep. 4 - I Plunge to My Death, A rant
First off, Sally and baby Percy scene was so cute. I swear to god, no one will ever top Sally Jackson for being the best mortal parent in the series.
That Percabeth bonding scene in the train. Bruh, I cannot wait for the Kindness International truck and Waterland scenes.
Annabeth opening up about her Dad and Percy utterly shocked that not all mortal parents are like his Mom.
Frederick’s college ring on Annabeth’s necklace. To non book-readers, yes, that's her Dad's name.
Annabeth having to earn Thalia’s respect.
Luke caring for Annabeth right away just makes it more gut-wrenching and heart-breaking with what he’s about to do. (SPOILER ALERT) “Family, Luke. You promised.”
Grover being super grouchy when he doesn’t get enough sleep. And as someone in their twenties, I totally could relate to him.
This convo:
Percy : Can I ask a dumb question?
Annabeth: It's like you need me to make fun of you.
That's it, that's their relationship.
Mentioning the god of the wild, Pan, and that there are searchers for him.
How that convo basically went:
Train Cop: I don’t think you wanna take that tone with me, little girl.
Annabeth: EXFUCKINGCUSE ME?
Grover: Annabeth, no-!
Echidna calling the cops on 3 minors, just screams typical Karen behavior.
The St. Louis Arch being an actual temple of Athena is a nice change from Annabeth just wanting to go sightseeing.
This convo:
Percy: You've done more for me in the past few days than my father has done in my entire life. If I had to stick with someone, I-
Annabeth: Careful, I think you were about to call me a friend.
Percy: *stumbles because of the poison from the stinger*
Annabeth: *catches him*
Again, that’s their relationship.
Annabeth and Grover splashing water at Percy at a fountain when there’s a big-ass river nearby. Idk, but I find that funny.
Athena letting Echidna and the Chimera into the Arch because it wounded her pride? OH, HELL NO!
Athena’s Logic: Punish her devotee because someone close to them did something that wounded her pride. Medusa=Poseidon; Annabeth=Percy. She didn’t even gave a f*ck that the devotee in question is her own daughter. WTF, ATHENA!
I always thought Zeus has the crown for being the deadbeat absent godly parent, but Athena is slowly giving him a run for his money.
Annabeth deciding to sacrifice herself so Percy and Grover can continue the quest. WTF!
Percy tricking Annabeth into taking the final stand himself. Dude, your fatal flaw is showing.
Annabeth having to deal with a forbidden child sacrificing themselves for her safety AGAIN (With Thalia, and now Percy). Girl must be traumatized.
Grover having to go through it again as well.
The Chimera being terrifying than how non clear-sighted mortals see it.
Poseidon “always been here/so hard for me to stand back” Daddy to the rescue.
This:
Percy: *gets stuck underwater*
Nereid: It’s okay. You father sent me-
Percy: Oh, hell no! *tries to swim harder*
Percy only now realizing he can breath underwater. Like, of course, he can. He's Poseidon's kid.
We're only in Episode 4 and it's already so good. Can't wait for the episode 5.

Hi, I loved the pilot of Lackadaisy!! As someone who used to live near St. Louis a long time ago, my brain has latched on to this question and won’t let go:
Is the bridge in the first scene based on any particular real-life bridge over the Mississippi River?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It feels familiar, but I can’t nail it down. I can’t find a bridge that crosses the Mississippi that looks just like the one in the pilot. So, I’m curious if it’s fictional or based on a real life bridge in StL I’m just not thinking of (Or, it could just be a generic bridge design and I’m overthinking this. We’ll see, haha).
Thank you, and I wish you all the best. Thanks for making such a neat story.
It's a fictional bridge. You can see a very fanciful version of the Eads Bridge in the distance, though. (It's the world's first steel truss bridge and was emblematic of the city before the Arch took over that job.) The bridge Rocky is on has truss shapes akin to the Chain of Rocks Bridge, but would be more in the location of Merchants Bridge.

percy jackson show’s changes from the book that… could have been done better
• not completing the quest in time. what was the point of having an expiration date if in the end zeus was like ‘ok nvm’??
• four pearls instead of three only to make grover lose his…..so now….we’re back at three again
• whatever happened in the lotus casino
• or at waterland
• and at crusty’s😭😭 i remember that being one of my favourite scenes in the book when i read it as a child and it lasted not even three minutes
• generally the way these three kids seem to know everything? like, medusa i get - it’s one of the more famous myths. the lotus casino? eh, it’s a stretch. but procustes? c’mon! they remove the suspence and the wonder of discovery in favour of a bland out-of-context explanation and it really takes away from the story (and i get that annabeth and grover might know more about the greek myths and i even get that in the show it’s very clear that sally prepared percy for all of it, but they’re not omniscient ffs)
• also the complete absence of luck and chance. everything seems to happen for a reason, everything is tied to the prophecy. no pink poodle, no random excursions on st louis arch because annabeth’s a massive nerd, nothing
• percy accusing luke immediately. in the book it takes a venomous scorpion for percy to realise something might be off, but in the show he’s accusing luke straight away???? this kid’s fatal flaw is loyalty he would tear his limbs off before even thinking that someone he called a friend might have betrayed him
• apparently now backbiter can open portals even inside camp so there goes the whole plot of the fourth book i guess??
• gabe turning himself into stone by mistake. now there are two things that bug me: 1) in the show gabe isn’t abusive, and petryfing someone for being a bit of an arse doesn’t seem like adequate punishment 2) it takes away from sally’s character development outside of being percy’s mum (= being able to free herself of an abusive relationship and in doing so getting the money to go back to school)
• this is very nit-picky but the thrones!!!!! where is my weird assortment of different thrones that showcase the powers and personality of each god??? where’s poseidon’s fisherman chair??? where’s demeter’s grass throne??? why does everything need to be so stale and gray????

I always wondered how the show was going to fix a certain mathematical error Rick made when he wrote the St. Louis Arch scene. Mostly to show how Percy could have survived his fall when he should’ve been turned into a pancake since the length from the Arch to the Mississippi River is massive.
I was not disappointed.
Percy survived because the water spirit of the Mississippi River went out of her way save him. Sure, Poseidon had a help in it, but from her words, it seems like a ton of water spirits are also willing to help Percy which foreshadow how close Percy will truly become to water and the inhabitants of any body of water. Also, she helped calm him down with kind words that remind him of Sally’s love, and let Percy know that Poseidon (despite being a deadbeat dad) does indeed care for him.
Also, she lets him know that he can breathe underwater, so Poseidon better start paying those child support because Percy is about to become powerful enough to rival all the gods.

percy jackson & annabeth chase
percy jackson TV series episode 5: the missing scene of percy and annabeth walking back to the diner.
***
Ares’s shield was heavy, but Annabeth held onto it tightly in an attempt to stop her hands from shaking. Her clothes were still damp from her and Percy’s unplanned swim in Hephaestus’s Thrill Ride of Love, or whatever.
The two Half-Bloods hadn’t spoken a word to each other since Percy was freed from his golden statue form and they booked it out of the tunnel with Ares’s shield in hand. Annabeth wasn’t sure what she was supposed to say. A part of her wanted to punch Percy for being so stupid, again.
First, he pushed her down the stairs at the St. Louis Arch to fight the Chimera alone, and then he sat on the golden throne trap so she could retrieve the shield. He could have died twice and he hardly seemed bothered by it. He would have died twice, and what for? Her? No way.
Annabeth had dreamed of a quest forever. She wanted to leave camp and prove that she was a warrior to her mother, Athena. Before Percy’s quest, Annabeth would have done anything to please to Gods and prove that she deserved their praise. Then, the son of Poseidon showed up, and despite their differences, he risked his life to protect her and Gover. Sure, he wanted to complete the quest and prevent a Godly war, but he didn’t fight the Chimera or sit on the throne to please the Gods; Percy did those things because he was good. Percy was also different. He was stupid and reckless, but he was good and different from anyone Annabeth had met before.
On the other hand, because of his infuriating self-sacrifice twice in a row, she wanted to hug him again. Maybe she’d hug him and then punch him, or vice-versa.
“Do you want me to carry it for a while?” Percy asked, breaking the silence.
Annabeth tightened her grip on the shield and shook her head. “I’ve got it.” The thing was nearly the size of her and heavy, but she needed her hands occupied and something to pull at least some of her focus so it wasn’t all on the blonde-haired boy beside her.
Percy didn’t argue. He was still probably in shock from turning into a statute. His clothes were damp as well and his whole body shook slightly. At least he didn’t look as bad as when he was poisoned, but Annabeth was a little concerned that something was wrong.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
“I mean, I’m a little hungry but-”
“Percy,” she snapped, tossing him a glare that veiled some of her concern.
He ran a hand through his wet curls, pushing them back from his forehead. “Oh, you mean from the whole turning-into-gold thing?” She nodded and rolled her eyes. “Totally! After falling from the arch, that was nothing.” Percy’s tone was light, and it was clear that he was trying to ease the mood, but it made Annabeth feel worse. She stopped walking in the middle of the empty road and turned to him, with most of her body hidden behind Ares’s shield.
“We’ve gotta get back to Grover-” Percy started, but she cut him off.
“You’re wrong,” she said, simply. “I’m not better at this than you.”
Percy let out a deep sigh, his shoulders slumping with it. “Annabeth-”
“No. You’re wrong. And…” she hesitated, resting the heavy shield against the ground before she looked Percy right in his bright blue eyes. “And as your friend, I’m not gonna let you do something like that again. You’re going to retrieve the Master Bolt from Hades and get your mother back. I’ll make sure of it. No more sacrifices, got it? If we’re doing this, we’re doing it together, all of us.” A passion filled her voice so strong she startled herself -her emotions still ran high from watching Percy nearly be trapped forever as a statute- but she meant every word she said.
Percy looked slightly relieved and slightly surprised at the same time. “So…we are friends?”
Annabeth rolled her eyes again and resumed walking toward the diner. Percy grabbed a hold of her shoulder and forced her to stop. “What I mean is, I don’t care what the Oracle said. I want to be your friend. If you were going to betray me, you would have left me in that ride and taken the shield without a second thought. But you didn’t; you saved me from being some creepy statue for the rest of eternity. Thanks for that, by the way.”
“I didn’t really get you out,” Annabeth confessed, shifting her gaze at the road under their feet. “I told Hephaestus the truth and he undid his trap.”
“The truth about what?”
A small smile tugged on Annabeth’s lips. “Maybe one day I’ll tell you, Seaweed brain.” They began walking again, side by side through the cool night toward the faint glow of the diner in the distance.
“Seaweed brain,” Percy repeated the nickname. “That’s not gonna stick is it?”
“We’ll see.”
They continued to walk, and Annabeth found a new goal to aim for. She didn’t want to beg and grovel for her mother’s affection, not after Athena tried to kill her and her friends inside the arch. Annabeth still respected her mother, there was no way she could shake that childly ache to be noticed by a parent, but her loyalties began to shift. If getting her mother’s praise was impossible, then she’d do something more tangible for a demi-god. Annabeth Chase would follow Percy Jackson. She doubted she’d be able to stop him from doing anything else stupid, but she’d be there to either help him do the stupid thing or get him out of it.
She could almost hear the gods, monsters, giants, titans, and her fellow half-bloods laughing at her. A child of Athena silently pledging her loyalties to a son of Poseidon; it was comical, but Annabeth was dead serious. If Percy was going to shove her down the stairs and sit on a godly trap, then Annabeth was going to be there to fight or fall with him, yell at the gods on his behalf, and fight tooth and nail to make sure they all get back to camp alive. It was a foolish plan, but if there was one thing Annabeth was good at, it was executing a plan to perfection.

The Roman Empire wasn’t built in a day and therefore my Roman Empire shan’t be built on one scene.
Percy praying to his mom instead of the gods? That’s in there.
The stairwell switch in the St. Louis arch? That too.
The first Percabeth hug? The very streets on which Romans walk.
Waterland and the gold throne? That’s whole temple column, that is.
Grover gaslighting the god of war with ease? Immaculate, yes, welcome to the city.
Sally and Poseidon in the diner? You cannot have an empire without it.
Percy meeting his dad for the first time? Long live Rome, my friend.
I can’t pick just one scene, this whole show is my Roman Empire.

while i'm feeling stabby let's talk about action scenes in the percy jackson show (bc i refuse to let this go i refuse i do)
bc the actions scenes otherwise were not unfortunately memorable for me i'm going to be talking about the first and last ones and why they don't work both on a cinematic level but also on a character level. did i want to address the disappointingness of the st louis arch fight? yes. but literally cannot remember it beyond the fact that it was disappointing. which says a lot imo.
so. let's start with the mrs. dodds fight shall we?
i'm going to say it. taking away the sequence where percy assumes that he's wrongfully in trouble kills a bunch of subtle character work in the series.
in the books percy has a short monologue at the beginning where he starts off with "am i a troubled kid?" and so the lead up to mrs. dodds attacking him does several things. we, the reader understand that percy didn't (consciously) do anything, so we feel the unfairness when he's pulled aside - this scene asks us, the readers, to sympathize with the kid, not the authority figure. it sets up a fundamental theme in the books, that authority figures, and more specifically adults, can be challenged, can be wrong, can be terribly unfair to children. and this is important considering the protagonist of this story is dyslexic and has ADHD???
and they take it out. and it's really really galling.
there's so many other things that i could say about the character work in this scene. so many, like the fact that mrs. dodds' monologue about the gods is misinterpreted at first to be about the school - setting up the connection between the school administration unfairness and the gods unfair attitudes towards their children. like the moment when percy thinks that it might have been his ADHD acting up when mrs. dodds got up the stairs quicker than humanly possible. there's also less foreshadowing for mr. brunner being chiron, like the pen turning into a sword isn't even properly shown hello the pen suddenly having magical properties could be completely divorced from mr. brunner gifting it to percy.
there's just. a lot. of character work I'M LITERALLY SCREAMING IT'S NOT EVEN A HARD SCENE JUST PLEASE WHY IS THE SHOW ALLERGIC TO TENSION LIKE PLEASE
but they don't add in the conversations, they don't add in the moment of self-doubt, they don't add in mr. brunner. mrs. dodds just approaches menacingly. in broad daylight. like sir. the mist can cover a lot but it showed ares as a kidnapper. it doesn't make that much sense that it completely erased people's perception of mrs. dodds. like please.
(also idk if this is disney, but i think that it was incredibly frustrating that they really just removed percy's being treated as a delinquent and as a troubled kid. the show begins with the monologue but the monologue is kickstarted by percy being at "Yancy Academy, a private school for troubled kids in upstate New York." HELLO??? you could have had the exact same monologue but you change it for subpar themes????)
ok so it doesn't work on a character level.
does it work cinematically?
HELL NO.
this scene has already been torn to shreds and back (BUT NOT ENOUGH) so i'll be short. EVEN THE SPY KIDS HAS IMPACT SEQUENCES. ONES THAT LOOK REALISTIC MIND YOU. there's no impact. percy isn't pushed down by mrs. dodds, he just. trips? ig? silently? without any noise? ahahaha the lack of noise??? someone else has already mentioned the lack of noise but yeah once you hear (or don't hear) it, you can't un-hear it.
ahahahaha
ok but surely the show improved as they went on, as the filmed more etc etc. sure. but like. also no. (and also though i'm sure they did film these episodes in order lets also keep in mind that filming is not always linear)
ARES FIGHT SCENE WOOOOO LET'S GO
ok i did lose the video (i looked for it i swear, i took 30 min trying to look for it, which really isn't that long but yeah) but a lovely tumblr user here (i think i know who it was but i don't want to be embarrassingly wrong) edited the ares's fight with his internal monologue and an awful recorder rendition of that one song from the titanic and it really does encapsulate my thoughts. but yeah if you aren't familiar with the video.
when i was watching the final episode i swear i was trying to turn all critical brain functions off but it was really hard for me not to notice the increasing amount of time that ares just lets percy get up. i just watched dune (second part) so i was spoiled for good fight sequences but something i did notice was that in dune, when there is a pause in a fight it is FOR CHARACTER REASONS. the characters are DELIBERATELY NOT ENDING THE FIGHT. and that was not the impression i got from ares. it really wasn't.
and that took away from his authority/menace as a god ngl.
so yeah was the fight better than the dodds fight. 100%. like 500%.
does that make it a good fight sequence.... ehhhhhhhhhhhh....
(why did the scenes with luke have more tension than the ares fight hello)
and character wise. assassination. all the assassination. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE CULMINATION OF PERCY'S CHARACTER ARC AHHHHHHHH. sorry. but like this was the point at which percy decides he's done running. and stands up to ares with all the taunts and quick thinking that we know him for. unfortunately the show thought itself better and erased that theme ahaha.
so this really is just a fight for the helm. no big reveals, no reading the actions and emotions of a god, no strategy, no trying to get to the water and ares stopping him. like
WOULD IT BE SO HARD TO JUST FOLLOW THE NICE LOVELY SCRIPT THE BOOKS GAVE YOU FOR EXAMPLE: shot of percy looking at the water, shot of ares looking at percy looking at the water, maybe a pan to the water here, percy moves towards, ares blocks. YOU CAN IN FACT SHOW BATTLEFIELD STRATEGY IN A MOVIE. BC BATTLE STRATEGY RESULTS IN STRATEGIC FIGHTING. WHICH IS WHAT THE VISUAL MEDIUM IS SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD AT. RIGHT? RIGHT???
ahahaha sorry just feeling stabby i don't really know why. anywho off to the senate meeting. i'm running a bit late but i did rsvp with a knife sooooo
