Mmm the villain of the episode is an entitled white lady who called the cops on a bunch of kids, calls them monsters because of an aspect of themselves they can't change that makes them disruptive and dangerous, and hides behind a veneer of being a caring mother. And Annabeth is black. The social commentary is commentarying

Have y’all thought about how heart wrenching it was for Grover and Annabeth when Percy closed the door behind him? I know they were both immediately brought back to the night they couldn’t save Thalia. They BOTH lost one of their best friends and felt like they were going to lose Percy the same exact way. I think about how Grover promised Sally to protect her son as her last wish. He finally got a second chance to be a protector, just for it to be ripped away. I think about how Annabeth felt the same way. How, even though their friendship was just beginning she knew she didn’t want to lose him. “Don’t do this to me” she has already lost her best friend!!!!!!!!!! She couldn’t think about losing another that same way. I think about how Percy felt bad that Athena had punished Annabeth for HIS actions. This was how he was going to make it right. He would fight the chimera because it was HIS fault Athena allowed Echidna into her temple. I think about how they were BEGGING Percy to open the door. How helpless they felt as they were about to lose their already dying best friend. They don’t even know if seaweed brain is alive or not right now!!!

One of the few egg-laying mammals on our planet is the echidna. They are medium sized solitary mammals covered in fur and spines made of keratin. Although they closely resemble hedgehogs and fill the same ecological niche they are not closely related at all. ©Ross Holdsworth

Echidna essentially saying “You killed my children, now they’re going to kill you” is so wild because the trio’s response is like “bitch we’re ALSO children????” meanwhile, Athena immediately went “NOT IF I KILL THEM FIRST” and that’s so fucked up but also so funny

Did you know? The short-beaked echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus) is a monotreme, meaning it’s one of the few mammals that lays eggs instead of bearing live young. This species lives for an average of 10 years in the wild, and up to 50 years in captivity. Weighing up to 15.4 lbs (7 kg), this spiky critter can be found in parts of Australia, New Guinea, and Tasmania. It feeds on invertebrates like ants and termites.
