So I am officially obsessed with The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer. It’s my new favorite movie or like say in the top 5. It’s in my I will never tire of rewatching list. And I am in love. The cinematography is great and I think I just love Guy Ritchie’s style. It was absolutely a silly spy movie but seriously they all are silly and that’s why I love them. Henry and Armie or Solo and Illya have the best banter. I also don’t know what it is about Guy Ritchie films but his main characters have to stop seeming like they are going to be in love by the end of the movie and then not being in love. (Sherlock Holmes I’m looking at you too). The plot was less important than the characters imo and I think that’s where this movie shines. Highlighting the 3 main characters and how they end up completing, or not, their missions.
I could just go on for days about this movie. I don’t even have any real complaints, which is rare. The only complaint I have is Solo and Illya don’t get together in the end and that’s not really a real complaint. It’s just me having silly headcanons.
Rewatching I noticed little things that were to clues to later parts of the film that you wouldn’t notice the first time and that was so fun. This movie has everything I love in a spy movie. It’s so good. It deserves way more love and attention than it’s gotten. I don’t know why more people are singing it’s praises and falling in love with this beautiful work of art.
Side note: the show from the ‘60’s stars David McCallum as Illya, who also plays Ducky on NCIS and that brings me a lot of joy even though I haven’t seen the show as of yet. But I love David and Ducky.
Post updated with a few gifs. Also anyone who loved White Collar should love this movie as Solo and basically are the same person. Solo just has a little more danger skills.
(The four D.E.B.S. From left to right: Janet, Max, Amy and Dominique)
D.E.B.S. is the name of a secret organization that trains spies. Amy, Max, Dominique and Janet are a team about to graduate when they cross paths with notorious supervillain Lucy Diamond. Things become complicated when Amy falls in love and starts a relationship with her.
This movie is… It’s beautiful. It’s the most 2000’s thing imaginable, the kind of spy movie that is bursting full of cool technology and ends up being impossible to be taken seriously. You know the one. Except that this one is gay, with a lesbian hero/villain couple. It is just a very wholesome and feel-good movie, and I desperately want more exactly like this.
D.E.B.S. was a mixed success. It bombed at the box office upon first release, but has since then become a cult classic within queer circles.
Here is the trailer, and the IMDB page. You can apparently watch the movie over Amazon.
Queer Media Monday is an action I started to talk about some important and/or interesting parts of our queer heritage, that people, especially young people who are only just beginning to discover the wealth of stories out there, should be aware of. Please feel free to join in on the fun and make your own posts about things you personally find important!
Argylle gave me such mixed feelings - like the first half I was into it. Particularly the train fight scene - I was GRINNING the whole time in my seat thinking oh if this movie keeps it up I’m so buying it when it comes out on Blu-Ray.
And then the wheels started to fall off with a more and more convoluted plot. The final straw was the “ice skating” scene because I was just sitting there wondering how many drugs the screenwriters were on when they concocted that one.
Sam Rockwell was great as always, but Henry Cavill and the cat were the best part. It’s no wonder they’re front and center on the posters. Jeremy Jahns called it lazy key jingling to attract women and I think that’s an accurate assessment cause that’s was what drew me to see this movie in theaters.
How Eileen Chang Revived My Fascination With the 'Femme Fatale'
Content Warning: Lust, Caution contains scenes of graphic violence, nudity, and discussions of murder (the book only hints at these things). The movie also depicts sexual assault. Viewer discretion is advised.
