The Fae of the British Lostbelt
This is gonna be a long one, so strap in.
The fae and other creatures of the British Lostbelt take heavy inspiration from real-life legends; almost every major character is named after a type of fairy or mystical creature from British folklore. Many of these names are not English; I've added a pronunciation guide for these in brackets after the word. In this post, I'll go over the beings and concepts these characters are named for and compare the legend to the original. This won't include Morgan or Oberon; those figures are complex enough to deserve posts of their own.
Aesc [ASH]
Aesc is more accurately spelled Æsc. It's an Old English word for the ash tree, and also doubles as the word for the rune for the letter Æ. This is pretty much a direct translation into Old English of Aesc's Japanese name, Tonelico (トネリコ), a word meaning "ash tree".
Albion
Albion is a poetic name for the island of Britain, from Greek Albiōn (Ἀλβίων), the name used by classical geographers to describe an island believed to be Britain. The name probably means "white place", which is how it's connected to the Albion of Fate. The Albion of Fate is the White Dragon, a symbol of the Saxons from a Welsh legend. In the most well-known version of the legend, the King of the Britons at the time, Vortigern, was trying to build a castle on top of a hill in Wales to defend against the invading Saxons, but everything he tried to build collapsed. He was told by his court wizard to find a young boy with no father and sacrifice him atop the hill to alleviate the curse. He sent his soldiers out and found a boy being teased for being fatherless, but when he brought the boy to the hill, the boy, a young Merlin, told him that his court wizard was a fool and that the real reason for the collapsing castle was two dragons inside the hill, one red and one white, locked in battle. The red dragon represented the Britons, and the white dragon represented the Saxons. Merlin told Vortigern that nothing could be built on the hill until the red dragon killed the white one. A red dragon is the symbol of Wales to this day, and a white dragon is occasionally used in Welsh poetry to negatively represent England. This white dragon is Albion in Type/Moon lore.
Baobhan Sìth [bah-VAHN shee]
A baobhan sìth is a female fairy in Scottish folklore. The name literally means "fairy woman" in Scottish Gaelic. They appear as a beautiful woman and seduce hunters traveling late at night so that they can kill and eat them, or drink their blood depending on the story. They're unrelated to banshees except in terms of etymology (Banshee is from Old Irish "ben síde", meaning the same thing as baobhan sìth). They're often depicted with deer hooves instead of feet, which is probably what inspired Baobhan Sìth's love of shoes.
Barghest
In the folklore of Northern England, a barghest is a monstrous black dog with fiery eyes teeth and claws the size of a bear's. The name probably derives from "burh-ghest", or "town-ghost". It was often said to appear as an omen of death, and was followed by the sound of rattling chains. The rattling chains probably inspired Barghest's chains. Her fire powers are also obviously based on the fiery eyes of the barghest. Otherwise, she's not very connected to the folkloric barghest, which is never associated with hunger or eating humans.
Boggart
In English folklore, a boggart is either a malevolent household spirit or a malevolent creature inhabiting a field, a marsh, a hill, a forest clearing, etc. The term is related to the terms bugbear and bogeyman, all originally from Middle English bugge, or possibly Welsh bwg [BOOG] or bwca [BOO-cuh], all words for a goblin-like monster. It usually resembled a satyr. It's not really ever depicted with lion features, so it's anyone's guess why Boggart is a lion-man.
Cernunnos [ker-NOON-ahs]
Cernunnos, probably meaning "horned one", was an important pre-Roman Celtic god. His existence is only attested by fragmentary inscriptions and the repeated motif in Celtic religious art of a "horned god", a humanoid figure with deer antlers seated cross-legged. This fragmentary evidence is often led to assume that Cernunnos was a god of nature, wilderness, animals and fertility. There exists no evidence that Cernunnos was a chief deity of any kind, since we have barely any evidence he existed at all in the first place. Cernunnos might not even be his name; it's just the only name we have. Needless to say, the only thing the Cernunnos in the British Lostbelt has in common with the real figure is his large antlers.
Cnoc na Riabh [kuh-nock-nuh-REE-uh]
Cnoc na Riabh, Knocknarea in English, is a hill in Sligo in Ireland. The name means "hill of the stripes", referring to its striking limestone cliffs. It's said to be the location where Medb's tomb lies, so it's connected to Cnoc na Riabh through Fate's conflation of Medb with Queen Mab, a fairy mentioned in Romeo and Juliet; this etymology of Mab as derived from Medb was formerly accepted, but has lost favour with the advent of modern Celtic studies due to the lack of any concrete connection between the two figures.
Grímr (don't know how to say this one, apologies; Germanic myth is not my strong suit)
Odin (Wōden in Old English) was a god worshiped in many places, basically anywhere the Germanic peoples went, including the Anglo-Saxons that became today's English people. As such a widely worshiped god, he had a very large number of names, titles and epithets. Grímr is one such name, literally meaning "mask", referring to Odin's frequent usage of disguises in myths, which is fitting for how Cú disguised himself as a faerie in the British Lostbelt and hid that he possessed Odin's Divinity from Chaldea.
Habetrot
Habetrot is a figure from Northern England and the Scottish Lowlands, depicted as a disfigured elderly woman who sewed for a living and lived underground with other disfigured spinsters. She often spun wedding gowns for brides. Cloth spun by her was said to have curative and apotropaic properties. All the Habetrot of the British Lostbelt has in common with this figure is the association with brides and with spinning cloth. "Totorot" is not a real figure; the name is just an obvious tweak of Habetrot.
Mélusine
Mélusine is a figure that appears in folklore all across Europe. The name probably derives from Latin "melus", meaning "pleasant". She's a female spirit of water with the body of a beautiful woman from the waist up, and the body of a serpent or a fish from the waist down. In most stories, she falls in love with a human man and bears his children, using magic to conceal her inhuman nature. However, she tells her lover he must never look upon her when she is bathing or giving birth. Of course, he invariably does so, and when he does, he discovers her serpentine lower body, and she leaves, taking their children with her. Since Mélusine is just the name Aurora gave her, the Mélusine of the British Lostbelt has very little to do with this figure, but an analogy can be drawn between the Mélusine of folklore hiding her true form as a half-serpent to maintain her relationship with her lover, and Fate's Mélusine suppressing her true form as both a dragon and an undifferentiated mass of cells to ensure Aurora continues to love her.
Muryan [MUR-yan]
A muryan is a rather obscure Cornish fairy. The word is Cornish for "ant". Muryans are diminutive figures with shapechanging abilities, cursed to grow smaller every time they use those abilities until they eventually vanish altogether. Muryan, of course, is connected to muryans through her ability to shrink others.
Spriggan [SPRID-jan]
A spriggan is a type of creature in Cornish folklore. The word is derived from the Cornish word "spyryjyon" [same pronunciation], the plural of "spyrys", meaning "fairy". They're usually grotesque old men with incredible strength and incredibly malicious dispositions, and are often depicted guarding buried treasure. Spriggan is not himself a faerie, and the name is stolen from a faerie he killed, but it's still appropriate due to the greed and selfishness spriggans are usually depicted with.
Woodwose
Woodwose is a Middle English term for the wild man, a motif in European art comparable to the satyr or faun. The etymology is unclear. It has little to do with wolves or animals, despite its association with wildness, but there is at least a thematic connection with Woodwose's character, since the archetype of the wild man depicts a figure who cannot be civilised or well-mannered no matter how hard he tries, much like how Woodwose barely restrains his temper by being a vegetarian and dressing in a fine suit. Woodwose's predecessor, Wryneck, is named for a type of woodpecker with the ability to rotate its neck almost 180°.

LB6 CLEAR !
Contain spoiler so read with caution
Tumblr media
As anyone know, LB6 split into three part timegate quest which is understandble in term of storyline. To put it simple, this LB is the best ! I complainted a bit in previous post about Medb but after read part 3, I remove the post (lol).
Every character (I really mean everyone with a name) had their own personality and clear motive to make stories move on. If I must say the suprise part of stories to me aside Morgan fact and Muramasa sacrifice himself is the ending, I never thought LB6 servant and master become so insignificant at later story (Morgan still get mentioned but she's died fast lol). Well, Castoria backstories and personality pretty suprising I think...
Cernunnos things with six faerie too really shocking, enough to made me looks at faeries with disgust it explained the reason why faeries there draws so disgusting too. So yeah no one become the best NPC for this LB but I become in love with Melusine ! I gonna pull for her when I have leftover quartz and funny enough she's the only servant I'm not get for LB6.
This LB cost me total 9 leyline stone which the biggest cost are Morgan boss and Cernunnos part (yeah I pretty tired so I'm not using retry then go with 2 leyline stone each lol). My MVP still same, Morgan with Castoria NPC support, my Abigail can't do much eventhough most enemies are berserker.
Tumblr media
As for LB6 CE, then again the what-if stories which pretty sad to think about. Castoria enjoying girls time along with Gareth & Cnoch na Riabh, in true sense it's Castoria biggest dream which of course never happen in story.
Since the story really good I must say it's 9.5/10 overall so thanks for food FGO !

Shenanigans in the Grand Order, part 600
Tumblr media
Ayyyyyyy, her memories are back!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll explain one thing at a time, so chill!
(And then she and Castoria became buddies. Da Vinci totally did that on purpose.)
Tumblr media
... Why?! We just got reunited with her!
And apparently that blue lightning was Morgan's magic mirror, or something like that, used to teleport Mash away. I'm now going to have more than a few words with the old hag.
Tumblr media
😓
Tumblr media
... I feel like this is a set-up, it can't be that easy.
Tumblr media
Well, that's going to be fun.
God, it felt like forever trying to get through the first part of Avalon. It's definitely well-written, but I can't help but feel like some stuff could be shortened or saved for later.
And... at this rate, I don't care if I'll catch flak for this, but I think Nasu needs to put a fucking in-game glossary for this game. I don't know if he does that for his other works (Tsukihime, Witch of the Holy Night, etc.), but there really needs to be one for FGO. The story gets dragged out by explaining lore and terms, and it should be shortened and the rest of the explanation could be saved for the glossary. I'm probably spoiled by Umineko, but really, FGO needs an in-game glossary.
"FGO dOESn'T nEEd A GloSsARY", you'll probably say, but the fact is that it is perhaps the biggest and easiest way to get into the Fate series or anything Nasuverse/Type-Moon related stuff on the virtue of being a mobile game. Yes, I know that a few of his older works recently got remakes and localized/translated for outside of Japan, but many of his other works aren't, and he has been putting more stuff from said other works into FGO, and not everyone who plays it knows or understands everything that's being told. FGO. Needs. A. Glossary.
Besides that, I don't have much of an opinion on everyone else yet (excluding Redra Bit, I know that I like him miles above regular Red Hare), but if what others have said about how a few characters were wasted (mainly antagonists/villains like Beryl and FK/TL Tristan/Baobhan Sith), then I better prep myself for disappointment...
SQ used: 0 (I think)
Revival stones used: can't remember, but I do know that I used some amount (it's been, what, over a month of getting through the first part overall, cut me some slack)

Honestly, that’s not what I expected from him.
I honestly thought part of what he wanted would be more power, to rule all of Faerie Britain, but it sounds like as long as he has a certain level of status, he doesn’t care who’s above him.

It reads: ‘ARKRIDE Solutions Office: Complicated Matters Only.’ Steeling herself, she knocks on the door three times. “First thing in the morning…?” a relaxed yet surprisingly young voice grumbles with a yawn. From the moment he opens the door to greet her, a new tale begins.

ima take a moment to talk about those. by which i mean a well known spirit from native american folklore, whose name starts with W. which i won’t be writing here, because (1) many believe that saying, reading, writing or even hearing the name causes the entity to be able to find you, (2) I’m not native and i don’t want to be disrespectful, and (3) even though i’m kind of a skeptic, I’m not gonna tempt fate here or anything. -_-
there’s been a recent rise in…popularity? i guess you could call it? in regards to W. they’ve been featured in media like until dawn (video game), netflix shows, horror franchises and more. W are being misrepresented, usually being incorrectly portrayed as unnaturally tall humanoid creatures with a deer skull for a head, where in the original folklore, they don’t look like that at all (source. just a warning, W is mentioned by name many times in the article.)
bearing this in mind, if anyone wants to write about deer-like monsters, here are some other cool creatures to read about instead of the W!
skulldog (furry fandom). obviously not a deer, but it’s a humanoid creature that has a skull in place of a head.
Telltale’s ‘The Wolf Among Us’ interpretation of the jersey devil
deerman; a north american cryptid treated similarly to the mothman or the sasquatch.
appalachian not-deer
(my personal favorite) Leshy, Leshen, or Spriggan from the Witcher franchise. pictured here:
Tumblr media
the reason i like this one is that it’s a clear nod to Cernunnos from celtic mythology, and its design is really cool and unique in my opinion, made of wood rather than skin and bones. also, in addition to being human hunters, they have the ability to manipulate plants, as well as summon crows and wolves. so y’know, that’s super badass.
anyway, i don’t write about cryptids or monsters, but i LOVE reading about them and researching them. so if anyone who isn’t native is considering writing about W, id ask them to take a look at this first <3 and btw if i missed anything feel free to reblog or message me with more information!

RENA I NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT YOUR SKYRIM OCS LIKE YESTERDAY I BEG - talanahhs
VALL. LITERALLY THE LORE RUNS SO DEEP. i have 3 main ocs and they all are idiots with each other. i will give you some basics!!
hiraeth is our last dragonborn. they are a nord who's built like a tank and tall like a tree and acts like a big dog who's not aware of their strength. they wield a big ass sword and love poetry, music, chickens AND dragons..they sadly are very unhappy about the last dragonborn thing bc they dreamed of meeting a dragon their whole life and now that they did they also need to kill them..unfair. hiraeth's father died when they were little and they blame his death on themselves bc "they weren't strong enough to help him" (they were literally just a kid :c), family is incredibly important for them and they value it above anything else. sadly, their mom dies at helgen (sorry hiraeth..) so their younger sister (which attends the college of winterhold) is the only family they have left...until they meet sibylla & dervera <3
sibylla is the first companion to join hiraeth. a breton, ex-dragon priest, she betrayed the dragon lords when the 'alliance' wasn't any longer beneficial to her. died during the dragon war but a strange twist of fate that has to do with molag bal (that now wants her dead) brought her back to 'life' as a vampire. she spent all her life studying and striving to become the most powerful mage and let me tell you, she sure is Powerful. she's a lover of luxury and good food and has a gay little knight/lady dynamic going on with hiraeth . she joins them to stop alduin bc she's not a fan of having a tyranny of the dragons part 2. oh did i mention that it is believed that she had The Sight and could see the future? sibylla claims to have lost the ability, but who knows!! she has lots of secrets..
dervera is a dunmer that had to run away from her homeland to solstheim with her father after said father killed (well deserved) the guy that killed dervera's mom. they live on their own in the middle of nowhere of solstheim after the death of their father as well. she's been very unlucky and ended up thinking that no one to care about=no pain. a plan that went Not that well bc they ended up adopting an orphan as her little brother only for him to die bc of miraak. she meets hiraeth & joins them & sibylla to take revenge on miraak and when everything's said and done, and they have nothing else to live for, hiraeth asks her to go back to skyrim..with them :) also dervera has a super cool prosthetic spriggan arm, i love her

Can you write Malcom beginning to realise that oh shit, things are not going great and maybe putting the fate of the island in doctor spriggan's twig hands was maybe a mistake but also he is in too deep now, and he could not stop worshipping the creature (in various ways) even if he wanted to?
Sure! :D Time to break Malcolm's mind!
Warning: Spriggan's typical manipulation in this au
On with the fic!
--
He should have noticed this before, should have noticed this ages ago. He had a feeling he had known all along, but had constantly turned a blind eye to it, wanting to ignore the dark reality that was his life.
Malcolm stared at his book, the one he had written, the one using the words and wisdom of Him. His hands shook as he picked it up, touching the worn, leather cover with a finger. How many lies were written in these pages, how many horrible commands had he read with now consideration of what they would eventually lead to.
Children were marked, 'blessed' as He put it, on the day they were born. In years time, they would be taken from their homes. Not all, but some, some would be taken to the woods by strange trees, and they would never be seen again.
Malcolm knew what was going on, he had seen one of the children, hidden away in the growths of His home. The poor child had looked like they were sleeping soundly.
They had not been.
It was a mercy that He left them in that state, instead of awake and aware.
Malcolm put the book down and bowed his head, clasping his hands together in prayer. To who, he did not know. He lost faith in God when he was young, when he realized that the world was a terrible, cruel place, run by tyrants. Then he found his Lord, who took him in, his brothers, his people, and gave them so much, but...
But in exchange, He had taken more.
"What should I do?" Malcolm asked no one, just the silence in the room. "Am I just as responsible for those children? Does the blood that coats His hands cover my own?"
"I wouldn't put it so graphically, but... in sense, possibly, if you wish to feel that way."
Malcolm tensed up, he hadn't noticed, hadn't heard the warping of the door, the heavy steps of feet covered in dirt and moss, the creaking of skin coated in bark. He didn't turn around, but he knew the Spriggan was right behind him.
"You're avoiding me." The Spriggan spoke, his voice calm, but Malcolm knew better.
He was disappointed.
"I am." Malcolm admits. "And I'm sure you know exactly why."
"You weren't supposed to see, but..." The tone was casual, and that made Malcolm grit his teeth. "It was eventually going to happen, I'm sure. I wasn't exactly hiding my intentions."
Malcolm stood from his seat and turned, facing the being that had been keeping his community alive for over twenty years. "What are they exactly? Because the blood I could understand, you made it clear it helps you, though I cannot deny that I've seen you eat the food offerings some of your worshipers leave for you."
The Spriggan looked at him. "I never denied that I could eat food, it is fuel. Blood is also of importance to me, it has relations to my domain of life, it gives me... strength." He smiled, His cheeks creaked.
He moved to circle Malcolm as He spoke. "Though that is not the issue at hand, is it? No... no, it's the children."
"Of course it's the children!" Malcolm shouted, forgetting his place, but it was too late, he was furious. He felt betrayed by his god, by...
His lover.
The Spriggan stopped, and His stare made Malcolm nearly back down. "You may have noticed that the land is... having trouble. Of course you have, your people have been asking about the dead newborn livestock."
"Yes... what is that about?"
"You need to understand that like you, I am not native here. And my home has adapted to the land after we crashed here. However, we lost fuel, we've lost so much that has seeped into the land. It's hard to gather it all while also providing for the life here, especially your people."
"But... but why take them?"
The Spriggan sighed, running hand through His hair. "How do I explain... look, what powers my ship has seeped into the ground, and becomes absorbed by new growth and life. And that..."
"Includes the children..." It dawned on Malcolm and he felt cold. "But why take it back!?"
Suddenly, Malcolm was shoved back against the table, the creature staring down at him with eyes so ancient, so earthen in color. It was like looking at the world.
"Because I need that energy to provide for you." He said, His voice serious and cold. "You asked for me to give your people what they need, and it order to do that, I need the energy, I need to be able to keep up with so many demands."
Malcolm swallowed, feeling the solid body pressed against him, pinning him to the table. "... Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because I knew you'd react like this." He hissed, then paused, sighing softly as He brought a hand up, brushing it against Malcolm's face. "I don't find enjoyment in it, but it is necessary. I spare some, blood sacrifices do help, but... the whole body is best. Your people are so needy, they are coming to rely too much on me."
"I... should I speak with them? Discuss that you are not pleased with their greed, my Lord?"
The Spriggan pulled back and rubbed at one of His eyes. "Oh, I suppose that could helpful. They are people of the land, they should know how to do things without always needing me to grow crops. In exchange... the sacrifices will slow down, will be less... needed."
That wasn't Him saying they'd stop, but... but it was something, right?
"I don't know if I can trust you to do that." Malcolm said softly. "I don't know what to believe."
"Trust me." The being said. "You know that it is the right thing to do. You are not able to take care of them all without me, but we must compromise to keep this place alive. Don't you want that? Safety and protective, food and shelter for your people?"
Malcolm looked at him, and... he nodded. Because he couldn't argue. The Spriggan knew what to do to protect this place, to keep it safe and protected from outsiders.
"... what can I do to help?" He asked and the Spriggan smiled.
"I'll find something for you to do that will help me greatly. Let me look more into our current situation, and I shall let you know." His smile was so sweet, but it made Malcolm's insides turn.
He felt cold lips against his own and he couldn't fight, what was the point.
The Spriggan always got what He wanted in the end, didn't he?
Even if Malcolm didn't always want Him to.
--
He's not going to stop taking children, the Spriggan knows what he's doing, he's toying with his favorite human.
The events of Apostle probably follow shortly after this, but with obvious changes.
It is so delightful to write evil Ten but he is also a pain in the ass at the same time, took forever to figure out how to write him in this.

THE ELDER SCROLLS.
In the beginning, before the gods, before men and dragons, were the fae. Magic imbued immortal beings who lived in the brand new and untouched forests of Nirn. Theirs was the original race of the fae that appeared humanoid, and there's little known history of them to recall; there isn't even a name other than fae. They helped shape the land and made the ecosystem thrive. They created sub-fae species like the spriggan and the pixies, and the mer. It was the most harmonious time Tamriel had known, and the fae thought it would last forever.
But then along came the humans. Suddenly, the world no longer belonged to the fae, and tribes began to die off as they fought with the humans for what the fae saw as rightly theirs. The humans brought with them nature that was violent and cruel, things the fae had never experienced before, and they were greatly overpowered despite the magic that was contained within them.
These darker sides of humanity eventually called forth the Daedric Princes from their domains and the remaining tribe elders, desperate to keep their people safe, go against the wishes of said people and naively strike a deal with one of the princes. Molag Bal. Of course, this backfires spectacularly because there's no bargaining with Bal, you take what you're given or regret asking in the first place. The condition is that every spring, 5 fae, one from each remaining tribe, are sent to Cold Harbour, Molag Bal's domain. And in return, the fae tribes will be hidden from the rest of Nirn in their own pocket realms. What happens to those sent to Cold Harbour, none know because no fae ever returned, except for one, Mern Gardener. But this return wasn't an accident or because Mern escaped. Mern was unleashed upon his former people by Molag Bal on purpose, bringing with him an infection of sorts---one spread through blood, a type of vampirism. Try as Molag Bal might, and he's still trying to this day, he couldn't fully corrupt the souls of the fae. As such, the fae infected by Mern and for generations after, as it's passed through the womb, don't have the ability to turn others, and they can walk fine in the daylight, and have the vampiric strength. But Bal thought it would be amusing to turn this peaceful, plant-based race into blood thirsty fiends, and that they are. The fae don't need to drink blood and eat flesh constantly, they can still eat their green stuff. But every once in a while, when the hunger strikes. It is ravenous. To the point where a mother would eat a child, and a brother a sister. The few born who don't show vampiric promise are often eaten right away because it's unlikely a child without vampiric strength would survive up to adulthood to then be turned...cus, you know, they'd still get eaten. The historic event forces the fae to become a violent race to both protect themselves and to sate their unwanted flesh lust. This is the fate of Nirn's fae, living in the shadows, half monsters, for all eternity.
Loras is part of the current generation of fae. He's only around 100 with bright golden eyes that shine in the dark, long luscious brown hair, gold tinted skin, perfectly pointed ears etc. He could be mistaken for an elf perhaps, so it's not too difficult for him to blend in, especially since so little is known about the fae. And Loras finds himself bored of living in the pocket realm waiting to one day be sent to Cold Harbour. Bal likes the pretty ones best. So, he decides to fuck off and see the world that his people gave up to live in veiled misery. Unfortunately, it doesn't occur to him to look for a way to actually lift the curses placed upon the fae by Bal. He's too busy exploring. :/

Since I count it as its own fandom at this point, for the ask meme you should do Fate/Grand Order Part 2 Cosmos in the Lost Belt Chapter 6 Fae Round Table Domain Avalon Le Fae 👍
I mean you're not wrong
The first character I first fell in love with:
I don't think anything got me more excited for LB6 than seeing a screenshot of Blanca lmao. Silkmoths are cute.
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
So, so many, but I think Melusine deserves a special mention. I didn't like her design much because (gestures to final ascension) and I was pretty peeved that I pulled her twice before getting a single Percy. But... dang. :'( I like her being a loyal knight who is entirely dedicated to someone who doesn't give two shits about her and her gruesome origins. Plus, her second ascension is cute and she has a cool play style (and also isn't supposed to be like a naked 12 year old which helps)
The character everyone else loves that I don’t:
I don't hate her, but I wish we got more Baobhan Sith beyond her being mean for Morgan and the one flashback scene. She's a tragic character but I ended up pitying her more than liking her.
The character I love that everyone else hates:
I feel like I'm on the same page as most of the fandom here? Uh... I don't like Spriggan, but I do think he's conceptually a really funny character, just being Some Japanese (?) Guy who got surgeries to look like a white elf and collects art in Fantasy Britain. Not the hill I'd die on but at least you're dead.
The character I used to love but don’t any longer:
I thought 'Oh Aurora seems really nice' for a time :')
The character I would totally smooch:
You weren't lying... that Oberon really can ruin my life....
The character I’d want to be like:
Habetrot...
The character I’d slap:
Beryl... let me at 'im.
A pairing that I love:
Gareth/Castoria is cute....
A pairing that I despise:
Beryl/Morgan

Gil for the character ask?
First impression
Oh man back when I first watched FSN and half of Zero like a decade ago I HATED him, but it was like one of those.... "I hate you so much but you're very compelling, but also i HATE you", and also he was very popular so that made me kinda dislike too.
Impression now
I LOVE HIM SO MUCH OH MY GOD. Watching babylonia was so worth it because it showed me that he was definitely more than he was in UBW which, uh, wasn't his finest moments. Seeing him there and in CCC was like, a blessing, and he's such a great character and I own a copy of the epic now and that's my number one fate boyfriend
Favorite moment
WHERE DO I START-- well there's a lot of little things in CCC that I absolutely adore (AUO castoff take my money), but I think one of my favorite moments is the scene in Babylonia where he talks to Enkidu about his role as king while watching his people celebrate. Also - heartbreakingly not in the anime but in the game - the bit where he tries to fight some spriggans but one's a rider and it bitchslaps him across the field and he's so OFFENDED, i wish that had been animated. Honorable mention is either his sacrifice in Babylonia or the bit in LB7 where he straight up tells Fujimaru to kill Kirei before he betrays them, I laughed really hard at that.
Idea for a story
I WANT STORIES WHERE GIL GETS THE SHIT BEAT OUT OF HIM, I WANT HIM TO CRACK EMOTIONALLY, I WANT TO SEE HIM BE LESS THAN PERFECT, BREAK THIS MAN IN ANY WAY YOU WANT AND I WILL LOVE IT ahem. listen sometimes a man needs a spiked baseball bat to the face if we want him to have any growth at all, mr perfect op bastard goldie is one of those people
Unpopular opinion
This is probably not an UNPOPULAR opinion per se I know plenty of Gil fans who agree with this, but there's still enough dudebros to make this at least a less common opinion-- I don't like him in UBW. And I don't like him for how OP powerful he is. I like him because he's absolutely one of the most human servants despite his demigod status and protests otherwise. He's ridiculously flawed and makes a ton of huge mistakes in his backstory and he's a petty arrogant selfish egotistical childish brat over half the time, and his grief for Enkidu is so relatable and I just /waves hands around/ THAT'S the good shit. Also the REAL unpopular opinion is that I really don't like Koto*Gil all that much.
Favorite relationship
You mean besides Enkidu because that's a given? Well, I ship him with my Fujimaru so there's that, but I think my favorite relationship he has is the UBW Idiot Trio. The closest thing he has to friends and equals these days is Cu and Emiya and I love the way the three of them tend to interact a lot and are like idiot frenemies who still hang out together. I don't think Gil would process friendship post-Enkidu if it bit him in the ass, but I really like that trio's weird dynamic.
Favorite headcanon
Well, Gil is dark-skinned in Fate regardless of how pasty canon wants to tell me he is, suck it illustrators. But most of my headcanons for him are like...more in depth stuff so we'll leave it at that.

A Chance at Fate: World Map and Details
General Information:
This is a more detailed description of the world map for Panavar. Some parts are not final and I definitely want to remake the map because it is missing several areas and some names have changed since I made it.
WIP Map:
Tumblr media
Places of Note:
Magical Locations:
These are places associated with a high concentration of a particular Mana Type.
The Ember Ocean (Lava) - A volcanic region with a large number of volcanic mountains with a sea of lava around them.
The Silent Isles (Death) - An archipelago that was the site for a huge ancient war and now is the main place of residence for sentient undead. Home to their capital the Nether Sanctum.
The Undying Expanse (Life) - A seemingly ancient forest where all life but the trees seem to be on an accelerated evolutionary course. Birthplace of the Spriggans.
The Eternal Lands (Time) - A seemingly normal flower meadow covered in large, deep tunnels. while the day/night cycle seems normal, the plants of the area act as though it is accelerated 50-fold, with their flowers opening and closing concerningly fast. Birthplace of the Elves.
The Empty Peaks (Arcane) - A range of tall mountain peaks, contrasted by vastly different mana concentrations on every side, resulting in little to no affinity in the mana of the range. Birthplace of the Halflings.
The Iron Reach (Metal) - A small stretch of metal-rich land that houses a city-state by the same name. Birthplace of the Dwarves.
The Echo Lake (Sound) - A lake surrounded by high mountains, completely silent as all sound made on the lake is echoed endlessly. Many caves surround the lake. Birthplace of the Wavewings.
The Breathless Planes (Space) - A large salt flat where air doesn't flow, no matter the forces acting on it, almost as if the air was spacially locked.
The Tethered Canyon (Gravity) - A seemingly normal canyon with unnaturally smooth edges. The gravity within the canyon is much higher the deeper into it you are, making it difficult to leave once entered.
The Fields of Decay (Entropy) - A desert of particularly fine, sickly off-colour white sand. Everything that enters the desert decays as though eroded and aged at a high speed.
The Sun's Sanctuary (Solar) - The pointed peak of one of two mountains considered the tallest in the world. A temple by the same name is built around the lower levels of the mountain.
The Living Land (Flesh) - An expanse of land where the ground is made of flesh, mostly rock-like bone with pockets of tissue and skin. Home to many horrid monsters and undead.
The Flaming Expanse (Fire) - A hot desert made of ash that regularly and randomly has fire-related weather.
The Talking Forest (Mind) - A forest of seemingly barren trees. These trees are all conscious and attempt to slowly assimilate any who enter the forest into their collective consciousness.
The gate of rebirth (Soul) - A sole isolated island in the middle of the Sapphire Expanse. Shrouded in mystery, those who know of the island believe it to allow whoever discovers it first to be reborn into a perfect life.
The Fey Wilds (Spirit) - An ancient and dense forest, filled with fey life and trickery. Birthplace of the Satyr.
The Moving Mountains (Kinetic) - A small range of tall mountains that, while not relatively fast, are moving in a dancing pattern around each other, slowly sliding over the ground without friction. Birthplace of the Giants.
The Venarus Theocracy (Holy) - An area of Blessed land controlled by the church of the same name.
The Cult of the Lost (Unholy) - An area of Damned land controlled by the cult of the same name.
The Cursed Empire (Curse) - A series of islands that are covered in small forests and ruins. The ruins continue underwater between the islands as if those areas weren’t always underwater.
The Shadow Nexus (Shadow) - a small island in the centre of a large lake, where the grave of a great and powerful shadow mage lies. The shadows on this island eat living flesh.
The Mirage (Illusion) - A desert with a high frequency of mirages present. Not all places in the desert are actually a mirage, and the desert's lack of water leaves people eternally tricked.
The Prismatic Domain (Focal) - A dried lake bed with little to no plant life, where polarised light beams constantly fly in multiple directions many times a second.
The Great Chasm (Dark) - A huge chasm, a scar in the land with many caves along its walls. Birthplace of the Gorgons.
The Blinding Isles (Light) - A series of islands with no tall vegetation or land features. Light from any source seems particularly harsh here and bursts of light will sporadically happen.
Thunders Veil (Lightning) - A series of islands under the edge of the Eternal Storm. The islands act as a lightning rod for the storm causing all electrical charge to be directed here.
The Eternal Storm (Air) - A huge never-ending storm mostly over a section of the ocean. It doesn’t travel and stays over the planet's north pole.
The Crystal City (Crystal) - A small area of land that has huge crystals of magical and mundane varieties growing there. Houses a city-state of the same name. Birthplace of the Gnomes.
The Frozen Valley (Ice) - The only continental piece of land close enough to the poles to have snow/ice all year round. Birthplace of the Yeti.
The Clouded Bog (Vapour) - A bog with a permanent fog over it and some bog like trees. The air is not entirely safe here for most sentients. Birthplace of the Lizardmen.
The Fallen Star (Plasma) - A large, spherical concentration of plasma mana. Potentially created by a failed ritual that became self-sustaining. The source of many folklore tales from the area as it's believed to genuinely be a fallen star.
The Sapphire Expanse (Water) - The deepest stretch of the world's oceans with most of the largest sea monsters living here, it is situated on the planet's south pole. Birthplace of the Merpeople.
The Earthen Range (Earth) - A very hilly but not mountainous piece of land where there are no caves underground no matter how deep you go, and all plant life here is a shade of brown. The birthplace of Humans.
The Lunar Plateau (Lunar) - The cratered peak of one of two mountains considered the tallest in the world. It looks like a volcano but the crater is much higher up on the mountain with a significantly smaller diameter and is not caused by volcanic activity. A temple by the same name is built around the lower levels of the mountain.
The Upper Atmosphere (Cosmic and Stellar) - Literally just the top half of the atmosphere.
There is NO area for Eldritch Mana Types due to the nature of their existence.
Areas Related to the Cultures of the Sentient Races:
There are small settlements across the world but these areas of mass population are significant.
There are four religious groups or temples associated with a Magical Location:
Cult of the lost - Unholy
The oracular theocracy - Holy
The suns sanctuary - solar
The lunar plateau - lunar
(These have been covered already)
There are two city-states associated with a Magical Location;
The Iron Reach - metal
The Crystal City - Crystal
(These have been covered already)
There are three countries not directly associated with a particular Magical Land:
The Saurian Kingdom - Population of mostly Lizard Folk.
The Republic of Cairngorm - The population is mostly dark affinity.
The Piral Alliance - Population of mostly Humans.
There are three international organisations with specific locations as their Headquarters.
Paragon - An organisation aimed towards mages, their branches contain libraries, research equipment, and supply shops for their members. Their Headquarters is a giant, red, crystal inverted pyramid that floats silently high in the sky above Echo Lake.
The Colosseum - An organisation aimed towards physical combatants, their branches contain arenas, gyms, and supply shops for their members. Their Headquarters is a huge colosseum on the edge of the Undying Expanse.
The Spiritus - An organisation aimed towards experts on the soul, they have one branch in each country's capital city, and the method to become a member is unknown.
There are three international organisations with no specific Headquarters but has branches placed in every settlement with enough population.
Adventurers guild.
Crafters guild.
Healers guild.
Mana Flows of Magical Lands:
How does the mana for each Magical Land allow for them to coexist?
Circuit 1; (Lava, Fire, Metal, Earth, Lava)
The Ember Sea is an area of naturally high high volcanic activity, causing lava mana to pool here.
As the lava travels and cools it is slowly eroded into the sand that makes up the Flaming Expanse, taking small amounts of lava mana with it. With an entire desert of sand made from igneous rock and the heat from the neighboring lava, the desert causes fire mana to pool here.
The Iron Reach is an area with dense and valuable metals in high volume, due to the repeated refining of nearby fire mana from the Flaming Expanse, but this also causes the soil to be thin, metallic, burnt, low quality, and bad for crops. The sheer volume of metals in the area causes metal mana to pool here.
The concentration of metal mana in The Iron Reach causes nearby minerals to slowly over time be moved by surrounding flows of mana towards the iron reach. This affects the nearby Earthen Expanse as it would be normal land, but with the removal of almost all metal mana has a high concentration of earth mana, causing the soil layer to be extremely deep, preventing most caves or tunnels from existing and making the ground highly unstable.
The high amounts of earth mana and instability cause the area to experience high volumes of small earthquakes. These earthquakes cause small shifts in this part of the continent, allowing lava from below the crust to endlessly bubble up and create the Ember Sea, completing the cycle.
Consequence 1; (Arcane and Sound)
The Arcane mountains are situated between multiple areas of high mana concentration causing most mana afford be drained from the range, making it the only place on the planet with arcane mana as the prevalent type.
In the Arcane Mountains is a large Lake, Echo Lake. Surrounded by the mountains it doesn’t get affected by nearby mana, but the shape of the lake and surrounding mountains causes a natural phenomenon where sounds produced here echo for incredibly extended periods, which causes sound mana to pool here.
Circuit 2;(Water (soul), air (lightning), water)
The Sapphire Expanse is a natural feature of the worlds oceans, it is the deepest part and filled with the most chaotic currents, and all sea currents flow from here and end at the eternal storm. This causes water mana to accumulate here.
There is a small singular island in the dead centre of the Sapphire Expanse which is only vaguely known about to most sentient life. Over time it has gained a belief around it as the origin of the world's mana due to how the sapphire expanse is the origin of all the oceans currents. While it is not the origin of the world's mana this belief has arisen alongside a myth for potentially allowing a person to be reborn with their desired mana affinity should they make the journey to the small island, causing it to pool soul mana over time and gain the name the Gate of Rebirth.
The eternal storm is a result of the water under it as all the world's water currents chaotically terminate below it, essentially creating a static and eternal hurricane. This causes air mana to pool here, keeping the storm eternal.
A few metal rich islands exist under the periphery of the eternal storm, and essential act as lightning rods for the electrical charge accumulated in the clouds, eternally striking the islands many times a second. This is thunders veil and lightning mana pools here.
The eternal storm is not a closed system and so wind currents will carry water-rich air from it across the world, a lot of this will reach the sapphire expanse and fall as heavy rain, completing the cycle.
Circuit 3; (Air, Death, Mind/Flesh, Death)
The eternal storm is impossible to navigate through, but people try anyway. This causes a lot of death under the storm, most of which washes up on the silent isles, causing death mana to gather there. Over time it became the home of sentient undead.
The death mana from the silent isles causes life to struggle on the nearby portion of the continent, with two responses occurring over a large timeframe.
A large forest once existed on half the affected area, once the death mana came it caused all but the most hardy trees and plants to die. The surviving plants joined together to survive and over time became more and more cooperative until the forest could be seen as one big, almost sentient, organism. This causes mind mana to pool here, affecting the forest even more. This is called The Talking Forest.
A large expanse once existed on the other half of the affected area, once the death mana came all but the most hardy microbes died and the survivors came together to survive. Over time the land became covered in bacterial and microbial sludge, both over and under ground. With more time passing this sludge evolved and came to resemble bone and animal flesh, skin, and organs. Other creatures and monsters, alive or undead, adapted and made this place their home. This place is known as The Living Land.
Both the Talking Forest and Living Land are harsh environments, killing many who attempt to traverse them. This death fuels the death mana of the silent isles further, keeping the cycle going.
Circuit 4; (Vapour (Shadow), Entropy, Light, Vapour)
The clouded bog is a natural bog that has a reserve of gaseous chemicals deep under it, these chemicals leak to the surface and hang around the bog as fog, causing a harsh environment that the local life is adapted to, though the fog does help sunlight reflect throughout the bog during the day. The eternal fog and its chemical makeup cause vapour mana to pool here. The more light-adverse monsters left the bog when the fog appeared and moved to a solitary island in the centre of a nearby lake.
Wind currents carry some of the fog away, with the more nasty chemicals staying in the wind for longer, helping the bog to not become overly poisonous.
On the nearby island in a lake near the clouded bog is a small ruin of a tribal civilisation, the weird architecture causes odd shadows, and the nearby, shadow inclined, monsters are attracted to the place. In its centre is a grave, imbued heavily with shadow mana from the deceased lying there. All these factors cause shadow mana to accumulate on this island, known as the Shadow Nexus.
Some of The more poisonous or environmentally negative chemicals in the fog from the Clouded Bog flows over to a nearby desert, where it settles and destroys and breaks down most matter, leaving only a sickly white powder that is not of use for anything. This sweeping breakdown of matter causes entropy matter to pool in the area, breaking everything down further and applying the same process to anything that wanders through the area, causing the desert to be called The Fields of Decay.
As matter is slowly buried by new matter over time it continues to be broken down in the fields of decay until after millennia it is completely broken down from any matter to energy, this causes an explosion of said created energy and it forces its way to the surface, bringing some matter from above it for the journey. With how long it takes the decay to reach this point the energy is no longer under the Fields of Decay due to tectonic movement, so it bursts up outside of the nearby sea, the matter taken along for the ride becomes islands and after the journey the only energy left is visible light, creating the Blinding Isles.
Circuit 5;(Spirt ->Curse, Spirit -> Time, Spirit -> Illusion, Curse/Time/Illusion -> Spirit)
The Fey wilds are home to many fey creatures, and over time their continued presence has caused the area to gather spirit mana.
The cursed empire is now just a small set of islands that accumulated curse mana. It used to once be the seat of a grand empire with good relations to their fey neighbours, but one day a new emperor thought his power greater than it was and sought to conquer the fey, causing their empire to be cursed, leading to their eventual downfall and erasure from history save a few scraps. This legend is altered and told the world over by humans to teach children not to mess with fey life, which in turn causes more spirit mana to exist and pool within the fey wilds.
The eternal land is a great shame of the fey creatures, a once great fairy queen wanted to conduct an experiment of some kind, the details lost to time. The outcome was that the affected area never found its place in time again, causing inhabitants and traveler to be sent to the close future or to experience time at different speeds, causing time mana to pool here. The elves, native to this land, tell this story as a cautionary tale of when to know your limits, but as the fey were the perpetrators of the original event the tales cause spirit mana to be generated and pool in the fey wilds.
The mirage use to be a normal desert, but a great battle between two fey rulers occurred within it, resulting in the death of one of them. This fey ruler was an expert at using illusion mana and their corpse causes it to spread throughout the desert well after their death. Anytime people fall for the illusions present in the mirage they commonly attribute it to fey trickery, generating spirit mana and causing it to pool at the fey wilds.
Consequence 2; (Holy and Unholy)
The areas blessed/damned by users of holy and unholy mana, if left for long periods, will start to accumulate environmental mana of their respective types. This is especially prevalent in the house of power for The Venarus Theocracy and The Cult of the Lost.
Consequence 3; (Lunar and Solar)
The two highest mountains in the world receive more lunar and solar mana than anywhere else in the world, but the temples built around their peaks, for solar and lunar respectively, caused mana of each type to accumulate at their respective temples over time, creating affinitied lands.
Equally, as they are the highest point a person can stand on they are closest to the outer atmosphere, allowing very slightly increased stellar and cosmic mana.
Circuit 6; (Crystal, dark, space)
The Crystal city is on an area with extremely high amounts of Crystal in its rock and soil, causing Crystal mana to pool there.
The Crystal mana of the Crystal city slowly over millennia pulls nearby crystals towards itself, emptying out where they used to be. Over time such a large area became hollowed out it collapsed, creating the Great Chasm. This huge hole in the ground creates areas that never see the sun and those same areas never did to begin with, these areas and the winding tunnels around the chasm causes dark mana to pool here.
The winding tunnels of the Great Chasm continue to great lengths underground, and in one particular area, the shape they take replicates a spell, causing the air above it to be spatially locked. It is unknown if this developed naturally or was aided by some long-forgotten nation. This area is called the Breathless Plane.
Circuit 7; (Ice, Life, Gravity, Kinetic, Ice)
The Frozen valley is the only piece of continental land far north/south enough to have year round snow and ice, making it the most consistent place for frozen water and this ice mana pools here.
This frozen water will melt once insulated by enough ice and snow above it and start to flow as top quality spring water, the nearby lands benefit from this water and are highly fertile, the most fertile on the planet, overtime this caused life mana to pool here, making the Undying Expanse once enough gathered.
Once a huge beast grew within the undying expanse and became more massive than any who came before or after, that beast decided to journey to a nearby land, but without the support of the concentrated life mana the beast's body collapsed under its own weight and it died, creating a long and deep canyon as it did so. Its manner of death and corpse caused some gravity mana to accumulate in the area it died in, and it was just enough to attract more gravity mana to the site over time. Eventually, this canyon became much more affected by gravity than anywhere else on the planet and became known as the Tethered Canyon.
The Tethered Canyon is a place of heightened gravity, but this extra force comes from somewhere and is just facilitated by the mana, the extra gravity is taken from the nearby mountain range due to its proximity and abundance. This mountain range as a result has much less gravity allowing for even the wind to move the mountains just a touch, this constant movement of lots of mass causes kinetic mana to pool here, causing the place to be known as the Moving Mountains.
The heightened movement and lower gravity of the Moving Mountains means clouds that would normally rain on mountains of such height do not, instead carrying their water past them and over to the frozen valley, where rain falls and freezes, continuing the cycle.
Consequence 4; (Plasma, Laser)
In a corner of the world lies a point of power, either a failed ritual, a divine/cursed item, or simply a runaway gathering array. Whatever it is was made by a highly competent plasma affinity crafter and was likely the cause of their death. The item now lies there with a huge ball of plasma around it, first gathered by the item and then later by the already high concentration of plasma mana around it, making it a self-perpetuating concentration of mana even if the item has been eroded by time now. The locals call this small area “The fallen star”.
Sometimes this plasma sparks in the right way to cause polarised light to flash out, and a nearby savanna has received so much of this light so frequently that it began to gather Focal mana, and after a point, the mana concentration became self-perpetuating here as well. This area is called the Prismatic Domain.
