7x03 the girl next door is crazy for SO many reasons but one of them is for having a scene where dean hits sam directly followed by a scene where a girl whos meant to be a young sam stand-in is hit by her mom a john winchester stand-in. um. okay. that is NOT unintentional. thats called parallels

Important context: Sam left Dean stranded without a vehicle when Leviathans were after them and he doesn't know if Sam is having a psychotic break with Lucifer in the driver's seat off on a case by himself!
Read abuse in that punch, sure; this family does emotions with their fists, Dean especially---but Dean also broke Sam out of hallucination with injury, so this is in line with that and Dean's reactionary nature. He's been worried sick about Sam, too.
Sam recently told Dean he's having trouble differentiating hallucination from reality! He visibly checked out before Dean sent him to the store!
Dean tried calling him and it went straight to voicemail. He turned off his GPS!
"You steal my car, you get punched," is Winchester for 'you scared me to death and for what, here you are fine'. And while that doesn't excuse punching your brother in the head and laying him flat, especially when you know he's recently had a seizure, it's really annoying when all of this gets boiled down to: Dean is abusive and controlling and excludes Sam from everything and doesn't care about him having his own life.
A lot of deep reading going on, whilst removing a ton of context. :/
Also, the car IS Dean's. It might be home for both, and they might technically share it, but it's Dean's. That's been canon since s1. It's not abusive for Dean to call it his. Be fucking for real.

okay okay okay
the thing is i think dean killing amy pond was super in character and in line with where spn was in the show’s journey. like the boys are barely beginning to question if all monsters should be killed. i get why dean’s moral compass said yes to killing amy, they’ve killed other monsters for less. she murdered people - yes for her son and i agree that her death was fucked up - but they literally killed monsters for waaaaaaaay less than murder. i get why sam let her go (the whole eye for an eye thing since she saved him) but if positions were reversed and dean had let someone like that go sam TOTALLY would’ve gone and murked her.
was it foul to kill a mother for trying to help her child and make the child watch? yes, absolutely. do i also think it was super in character and made sense in the characters’ emotional journeys to that point in the show? also yes. do i think sam would’ve killed her if roles were reversed? ABSOLUTELY I FUCKING DO
anyways the morality explored in this episode is super interesting and i think jackles did a great job directing

supernatural s7e3 the girl next door (w. andrew dabb, daniel loflin; directed by jensen ackles)
psst apparently leviathans are xfiles black oil (purity???? says the internet, who knew)
(watching the pre-ep recap) knowing someone that has schizophrenia and dealt with psychosis, well, it's certainly been eye opening to understand the symptoms and how much it lines up with tropes in horror. sam brushed aside seeing someone, getting medication last episode. of course dealing with supernaturally caused psychosis, no saying it would help. but blegh. often have thoughts
this has the vibe of something goofy. and i'm suspicious with jackles directing ngl.

bobby in a natty suit. but keepin it real with the little blue check shirt
DEAN They gave me morphine. A lot. Hey, look, a monster broke my leg.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
again surprised this detail doesn't make it into more fic
not loving how as soon as sam's out the door to get food, dean and bobby are arguing about him and dean is again being an asshole because (i assume, generously) he's freaked out and scared again, and also has zero understanding of mental illness
BOBBY Look, seems to me that Sam's head ain't no different than your leg. People heal on a curve. DEAN Not diff– Bobby, I get this thing off in five days, I'm golden. Sam's not a curve. He's a frickin' time bomb. BOBBY It ain't like he's keeping secrets. What you see is what you get. What's so nuts about calling an upswing? DEAN Because that's not how it works, Bobby, ever! All right? Especially not with Sam. The other shoe is gonna drop. It's just a matter of when. BOBBY Okay. How 'bout we worry about today's problems? And today, we need intel. I'm going. You sit there and stew. I'll check in. Look... you sitting here wringing your hands ain't gonna do nothing. Maybe he'll surprise you.
thank you, bobby.

saw baby sam's actor colin ford in the credits so i knew he was poppin in (and jewel staite apparently). what age are they gonna say he is this time. don't make me break out the cdc growth charts again 😂
also funny when teen wolf creatures overlap, though these kitsune sound way less rad than kira
Tumblr media Tumblr media
really curious what sam's thought process here is (and little sam is 15, and actor is also just 15. but looks like a baby lol)
Tumblr media
the jars of brains in the fridge,, crying
Tumblr media
that guess jeans logo highlighted to the heavens 😂 (but like not because they also have a brown label at top and guess jeans didn't???) they were the rich kids jeans of my youth (i am a couple years older than sam/padalecki)
Tumblr media
so, jewel staite! yes we all know her from firefly however, she was in the xfiles (as a baby) and the killing, my faves
Tumblr media
the xfiles s3e8 oubliette - jewel staite as amy jacobs
Tumblr media
the killing s3e5 scared and running - jewel staite as caroline swift
another love connection monster moral dilemma for sam. these kitsune seem to have completely nothing to do with kitsune of japanese folklore
of course dean says he trusts sam. of course he doesn't and goes back and kills her anyway. and then acts shocked when the kid shows up. and i guess has a clear conscience leaving the kid alive with no guardian except the vaguely agreed to "someone" to go to
how many times in 3 episodes of this new season have i said dean is being an asshole. you know i'm always rooting for you, dean, but you're making it hard at the moment

Back to Carlie sort of watches supernatural hour!!!
I tried I Tried I TRIED to give dean a chance bc y'all kept saying "no he gets better Carlie!!" And "pay attention Carlie!! " and "WATCH THE WHOLE EPISODE INSTEAD OF JUST SKIMMING WHILE U DRAW CARLIE" and I said fine!!
Fuck it!!! Lemme watch the next episode.
So I put on Season 7, episode 3.
I hate him I hate him I hate him lolololol
The whole episode I just felt horrible for Amy Pond.
I've never been a huge anime fan, but one of the few I HAVE watched has been Tokyo Ghoul. For those who haven't seen it, the premise is that ghouls need human meat to survive, and must hide amongst humanity so as not to get absolutely murdered by ghoul hunters who have learned how to hunt and kill them.
Ghouls have found alternative ways of getting flesh, much like Amy Pond, whom spoiler, works at a morgue. Throughout the series, we see ghouls struggles to hold onto humanity, and try to exist and hold normal bonds and lives. One such perspective is from a mother and small daughter who comes to our main cast for help. Just remember that.
Now, due to our monster, Amy's son getting sick, in a panic, she kills some ppl to feed him. Oopsie, but like, slay momma bear.
Sam also happens to know her personally, and when he finds out she was just doing this one bad thing this ONE time, he leaves her be. Says that's what most people would do in that situation. Dean lies, and tells Sam he trusts his judgment, and then promptly what does he do??
He tracks her down.
And kills her in front of her son, telling her it is her nature that makes her a monster and eventually she will kill again.
And in my head all I saw was the scene in Tokyo Ghoul, where we get the perspective of said monsters. A mother fights to save her baby, and loses her life, just for the baby to be traumatized, and GRIEVE and hate herself for just being born. The question arises, do we as monsters, deserve to even live just because of what we need to survive? If it is sourced ethically, and they aren't actively hurting anyone, do they still deserve the death penalty? I meant hey, sure, maybe they would have killed people in the future. Junior catches the flu and now mommy needs to go Merc an old dying person.
Maybe! But he just simply doesn't believe in hope, and change, or seperating yourself from the cards you were delt, and it's shitty.
He's a shitty, shitty guy, and I think everyone gives him a pass because of the trauma he's been through, and the fact that he's pretty but like noooooo??
Ps. I hope the son, who's just an orphan now I GUESS, does in fact come back, and I hope he Hurts him bad. Nobody chose to be born the way they are, and I guarantee his kill count was higher than hers lmao I just really am not loving this guy like everyone made me think I would. Consider me a meanie little hater who doesn't know what she's talking about bc again!! I'm maybe only watching the parts where he's the WORST, but I was still mad about the werewolf girl, and I'm noticing a pattern with the women here.

also. not getting into this rn i have a longer post drafted on it. but i cannot fucking believe we got ANOTHER scene where it’s heavily implied via dialogue & narrative paralleling that john was physically abusive. this time to sam as well. i keep having to adjust my view of him because it just gets worse w every season i watch. and my view of him was awful from the beginning. and there are fans out there who argue he wasn’t… its canon. didn’t the show try to REDEEM this man
