The Black Dragon gym was filled with many hollers that could be heard from outside, all directed toward the square boxing ring. This scene drew Jishin's attention, who was initially intending to crash at her place after a long day at school.

And at the same moment she opened the glass doors to invite herself inside, a conventionally attractive woman also did so. Jishin used the chance to hold the door open for the girl and winked at her as she entered.

“Oh, uhm— thank you!” The girl bowed politely with a shy smile on her face. Jishin slyly smiled from the interaction, proud of her successful gesture.

However, what she was yet to realize is this scene was being witnessed by Wakasa who manned the gym's front desk, and who was also already eyeing her with a face of utter nonchalance. “AH—”

“I let you come here for free and you steal my girls in return. You’re an amazing friend, Jishin.” Wakasa bantered as he turned the page in the adult magazine he was reading.

“You definitely scared her with that.” Jishin pointed at the Playboy in his hands.

“Well, I own this place. I read whatever I want.” He pointed out.

“Fair enough.” Jishin shrugged.

“Here’s your locker keys.” Wakasa tossed them towards the girl.

“Thanks, love you~!” She teased, heading towards the lockers to change into her Brahman uniform.

“Scram, brat.” Wakasa spat, his usually nonchalant face showing a subtle smile.

When Jishin caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror, she smiled to herself as she put on the uniform with ease.

She hurriedly left the changing rooms, interested to see who had been fighting that made the gym full house. She heads straight to Senju once she spots her among the crowd.

“Who’s in the ring?” She peeked through the heads of the large men in front of them.

“South Terrano challenged Keizo-kun.” Senju replied, invested in watching the fight herself.

“Ohhh!” She exclaimed, making herself comfortable on the seat and invested her attention to the fight.

South had managed to send Benkei flying to the corner of the ring, leaving an empty space in the middle. This gave Jishin the opportunity to see the boys in black uniforms sit on the opposite side of the audience. Hanagaki Takemichi was the first one to come in sight, who had already been waving to Senju.

“Eh? Toman’s here too?” Jishin asks.

“Yeah. Full house, indeed.” Senju nods.

Jishin had her eyes locked on the boy in a long coat, seated in a manspread with an uninterested look. “Who’s the blondie?”

“Girl, which one?” Senju asks in confusion, wondering which boy she had been describing, considering there were many blondes in the gang.

“The one who looks like he doesn’t want to be here.” Jishin blurts, her eyes still on him.

“That’s their president, Manjiro-kun.” Senju answered, identifying the boy right away with Jishin's forward description.

“He’s so gorgeous.” Jishin continued to admire the boy. Although she’s heard of the name countless times, it made her happy to finally put a face on it. A handsome one, if you will. “Introduce me.” She perked up.

“What?!”

“Come on, we’re not at war with them or anything, right?” Jishin asks.

“No, but… I haven’t talked to the guy in forever. We used to hang out when we were kids but everything went… ppfft!” Senju explained.

“You’re friends with him?! That’s even better. Go introduce me.” Senju was left with no choice when Jishin had already stood up and headed towards Toman’s spot.

“Mikey-kun.” She bows.

“Yo.” He nods.

“This is Jishin, my new executive in Brahman.” Senju gestures towards her.

��Hey.” Mikey nodded.

“Nice to meet you.” Jishin bowed, a little starstruck from the interaction. However, with her back facing towards the ring, Jishin didn't realize that South had been pushed against the ropes and would have almost hit her if it weren't for Mikey.

He swiftly grabbed Jishin's wrist and drew her away from the ring and toward him. Jishin stood between his legs with her mouth open and her body frozen since he was still seated in a manspread. Once she was away from the ring, Mikey withdrew his hand, unconcerned by her lack of response.

“Watch it next time.” He remarked, tilting his head and then continuing to watch the fight as Jishin was blocking the view.

“S-sorry.” Jishin nodded and cleared the view for him.

“We’ll see you around.” She spoke before taking Senju with her and returning to their seats.

“I am totally in love with him.” Jishin whispered, still fazed by the interaction.

“You say that about everyone you ever find attractive.” Senju pointed out.

“I’m serious… he is drop dead gorgeous.” Jishin glued her eyes back to Mikey. “Is he single?”

“Yeah, as far as I know.” Senju nodded.

“Awesome.”

Not even a few days after meeting the boy who caught her attention, Jishin finds herself at the town's lights festival with none other than her best friend. “It's Draken and Emma!” Senju waved at the pair from a distance.

“I wonder if Mikey is here…” Jishin mumbled.

“He is.” Unbeknownst to her, Senju heard her wish and pointed at him who was purchasing from a dessert stall.

Jishin immediately jogged towards the boy for a greeting. “It's nice to see you here, Sano-kun.”

“Uhm, sup.” Mikey opened his snack and spared a glance for her.

“Kinda hot in here, huh?” Jishin spoke up in an attempt to flirt.

“It’s twelve degrees.” Mikey flatly spoke.

Damn. Jishin cursed to herself.

“Well, I’m hot. Are you?”

“No.” He answered right away.

“Well, I mean you’re hot.” Jishin was desperate for redemption, chuckling dryly.

With an awkward scoff, Mikey responds— “Is that all?”

“I guess.” Jishin shrugged, tongue-tied by his reaction.

With a small nod, Mikey leaves and fades behind the crowd.

“That was hard to watch.” Senju appeared.

“Well, he’s playing hard to get.” Jishin chuckled. With a frown, she started to wonder where the sudden shyness came from. It felt like she sky-dived all time low, which was out of character.

Senju nodded in response, assuming that Jishin’s infatuation towards Mikey will pass like a storm, and that one day, they'll make a good laugh out of it.

“So, who're we gonna spectate today?” Jishin asks, zipping up her uniform.

“Rokuhara T—” “Pass.” She declined right away, ready to discard the clothing.

“They're fighting Toman.” Senju added.

“I'll be ready in five.” Jishin nodded and then returned to her room.

“I know who you want to see there.” Senju teased.

“I can be like his cheerleader or something..” Jishin yelled from behind the door as she changed into a black skirt and some stylish top and jacket, lending some time to accessorize with fishnets, earrings, and a necklace too.

“You’re really desperate, are you?” Senju surmised.

Just in time, they arrived at the tunnels where two gangs were positioned on opposing sides and ready to engage in a fight.

“Hello, Mikey-kun.” Jishin bowed.

Mikey only glanced at her in response; and Jishin could only wince painfully from his reaction, wishing that Draken and Senju didn't notice her failed attempt in interaction.

“Thank you for agreeing to oversee this fight, Senju.” Draken shook the girl’s hand.

“My pleasure, Draken-kun.”

“Well, let’s start this.”

The fight was cruel, considering how South Terrano could solo the "weaker" members of Toman, taking down a large number of its members.

With an all-encompassing infatuation towards Mikey, Jishin was in a trance, wondering how he managed to look so effortlessly majestic even while fighting.

She was meant to watch the entire fight to see if anyone was acting unethically or going too far, but Mikey simply drew her attention.

Jishin has seen the way he is with his best friends and siblings; and she adores how he deeply cares for them. Even though she wasn’t aware of it yet, Jishin wishes that she could be one of those people who sees him beyond his “Invincible” reputation.

Mikey was kicking from front to rear and throwing punches to the left and right. He depended largely on his senses, so when Jishin cast him a stunning glance, he couldn't help but sense it. He was diverted when he briefly met her eyes since the hovering seemed like a heavy weight on his shoulders.

So with an audible scoff, Mikey punched through the guys in front of him to fight on the other side, away from her gaze.

“COPS!” Senju stood from her place once she caught red and blue lights flashing in the distance. The guys scattered into various directions in a hurry after hearing this word, fleeing the area like a flock of birds.

“Let's go boys!” Mikey commanded his gang, which they obeyed immediately, running by themselves.

“Jish, let’s go!” She was getting up from the beat-up car she sat on when Jishin heard an audible scraping of metal in the distance.

Before she knew it, a guy from the opposing gang managed to catch up to Mikey and land a hit on his head with a metal pipe.

“Manjiro!” She gasped. The sound of the sirens approached closer and closer, leaving her with no choice but to save Mikey who was knocked to the ground. Jishin landed a kick to the guy who hit Mikey, sending him flying to the ground.

Senju and the left of Brahman ran away as Jishin split from them in order to save themselves.

“We have to leave!” Jishin urged, pulling Mikey off the ground. “I'm fine.” He groaned, getting up himself but feeling the world spin right after.

“Let’s go! They’re here!” Although still light-headed, Mikey let Jishin drag him away from the tunnels and into the subways, ignoring the people who eyed them.

Jishin bought a can of ice-cold cola from the convenience store as Mikey waits on the staircase, slowly regaining full-awareness. “That's a pretty bad hit.” Jishin remarked, taking out the can from the bag and holding it out for the boy.

“Thank you for stating the obvious.” Mikey spoke, slightly wincing when the cold tin touched the small cut on his forehead.

“Uh, hold on.” Jishin reached for the bag and took out a band-aid. However, the only one available in the store was a pink one, with hello kitty as its design.

“What the hell?” Mikey’s eyebrows tensed as she put it on.

“Just say thank you, man.” Jishin sighed, sitting beside him.

“I…” He exhaled.

“I'll go.” Mikey got up and gave her a nod, reaching for his pockets. “How much do I owe you? You know what, keep the change.” He left her a one thousand yen bill before turning and taking the next train, not sparing a glance back at her.

With a bittersweet sigh, Jishin was relieved that he is well, but she also wished that he would’ve stayed just even for a couple of minutes, if it’s not too much to ask.

She wished that he would look back just even a glance as he sat on the train, but Mikey kept his head low until the train departed.

“You do really like him, huh?” Senju appeared, walking down the stairs.

“Am I not being obvious?” Jishin chuckled.

“Wow.” She could only nod in response, realizing that Jishin had in fact caught feelings for Manjiro.

Jishin made every effort to watch Toman's matches and consistently provided him with a selection of cool drinks, but each time she received nothing or a curt "thank you."

When she realized that nothing was progressing with that move, Jishin went into her second attempt to get his attention— motorcycles. Wakasa was kind enough to lend her his old bike, knowing-well that she’d only use it to try and pick up Mikey.

Consequently, when she finally mastered driving it, Mikey was too quick and skilled to keep up with her, leaving her behind whenever they went for a joyride.

To say that he was cold was putting it mildly; when he seemed to be making no attempt to hide his disinterest towards her.

Jishin had effortlessly pulled boys and girls before, but merely getting Manjiro’s attention itself is a challenge to her.

When she was left abandoned with Wakasa's bike at the road beside the sea, pushing it while she walked, she realized she was in a hopeless situation. It was till Draken had a chance to drive by, recognizing her stylish outfit and long hair from afar.

“Your bike got discharged. Tsk. I don’t have the tools with me but I can give you Mikey’s number—” Draken spoke as he examined the vehicle.

“What?! Really?”

“Yeah. To get this fixed. He has the tools.” Draken answered.

That evening, Jishin was overjoyed to learn Mikey's phone number. She began by introducing herself in a friendly text when she got home.

Two days.

“He hasn't texted me back!”

We deny that we're tired, we deny that we're scared, we deny how badly we want to succeed, and most importantly, we deny that we're in denial.

We only see what we want to see and believe what we want to believe, and it works. We tell ourselves so many lies that eventually the lies begin to pass for the truth.

We lie so much that we fail to see the truth staring us in the face.

Mikey is not an easy person to get to know, much more to pursue.

It hurts, but it's the truth. Jishin made the decision to understand that Mikey might not be receptive to a new person in his life given the challenging past he has led.

“Give it up, Jishin. Maybe he's not looking for a romantic relationship. Because honestly, I can't even picture him being in one.” Senju spoke.

“Even the two of us?”

“Oh, you two are a good match, appearance-wise.” She approved. “But the rest— I’m not sure.”

“That helped, thank you.” Jishin chuckled sarcastically. “If I really can’t have him… I guess I have nothing to do about that.” She sighed. “I’ll back off.”

“I’m sorry, sweetie.” Senju sympathized and petted her head as they continued to walk down the street.

“Takemichi-kun?!” Not long after, she recognized Hanagaki outside a store.

“Senju, Jishin! You two should come with me, we’re all going to have parfaits but everyone dipped. But, Mikey-kun’s still there.” He explained, pointing at the boy inside.

“Yeah, sure.” Jishin shrugged and headed inside first.

“She is unbelievable.” Senju sighed and followed suit.

. . .

“So, I heard that the Haitanis will race with the Kawatas. We should go watch it.” Jishin spoke up, scooping the last of her ice cream.

“That is tomorrow, right? Hmm, I can’t. I promised to take Hina-chan somewhere.” Takemichi says.

“Training with Wakasa.” Senju said.

“Can’t.” Mikey simply said, finishing his parfait.

The table was mostly filled with dead air for the rest of the time, until it was time to go. “Hey, thanks for the treat.”

“No worries. I hope you enjoyed yourselves.” Takemichi smiled at the girls.

“We did.”

“Uhm, Takeomi-nii’s here. I should go.” Senju waved at the three upon seeing her brother pull up.

“Goodbye, guys.” Takemichi was next to leave, with only Mikey and Jishin remaining on the sidewalk.

“Uh, you don’t have your motorcycle with you?” She initiated the conversation.

“Nah.”

“I see.”

Jishin internally panicked when she felt raindrops falling fast, not expecting the sudden rainy weather. “Kinda cold in here.” She chuckled.

“Damn, Jishin, I can’t control the weather.” Mikey replied.

“Can I at least get under your umbrella?” She sighed.

“Why didn’t you bring one? Also, aren't umbrellas like– Brahman’s thing?” He asks.

“Senju’s thing.” She corrected.

“It’s not my problem you’re so mindless.” He spat.

“You know what? I’ll go ahead. I hope you slip or something.” Jishin grumbled, her clothes started to get drenched.

As Jishin left, water splashed around her boots as she stomped, not noticing the group of guys who passed by, making all of them turn their heads to her soaked clothes that hugged her figure and revealed the outline of her underwear.

One of the guy’s whistling caught Mikey’s attention. His eyelid twitch when he sees them eyeing her. With no hesitation, he sends each of the guys a death glare when they passed by him, “Fuck you looking at? Outta here.” He demanded before catching up to Jishin.

Jishin gasped quietly when he realized that he followed her, making her heart skip a little. “So, what made you share with me?” Jishin spoke flatly, remembering that she was supposed to be mad at him.

“Someone might think you’re a lost child and kidnap you.” He said.

“Fuck you.” She shook her head, while Mikey proudly chuckled to himself.

“Manjiro, thank—” “Shut up.” He cut her off.

“Also, I’ll watch the race to support the twins. I’ll see you there or whatever.” He added, in response to her invitation earlier.

“Did the world flip or are you actually warming up to me today?” She voiced.

“Don’t get too ahead of yourself.” He scoffed.

“This where you live?” He stops his tracks in front of an apartment complex where he had seen her leave and enter on several occasions.

“Thanks, Manjiro!” Jishin bowed.

Mikey was already walking off, and he waved a hand in response, still keeping his eyes forward, while Jishin entered her house with a giddy smile and anticipation for the following day.

Tomorrow arrived quickly. And as they had discussed, Jishin was waiting for Manjiro to arrive at the road they had just passed the previous evening. She prepared hours in advance to dress properly as if it were a date; and made sure to arrive on time.

While the girl stood under the lamp post full of optimism, Mikey stayed at home, full of doubt.

Perhaps asking her to the race was too demanding and forward?

“I thought you’ll watch the race?” Draken was surprised to see Mikey still seated on his bedroom floor.

“I don’t know…” He shrugged.

“There’s going to be a fight there, I heard that Rokuhara is after Brahman members now because apparently there was a biased last fight.” Draken spoke as he folded the boy’s sheets.

“I feel like it’s— Mikey?” Draken wasn’t able to finish his thoughts when Mikey disappeared from sight in a blink. Before he could even finish scanning the room, he’s already heard Mikey’s motorcycle start up and leave.

The thought of having Jishin endangered didn't sit right with Mikey. Much more if he's one of the reasons. So with an anxious thought, Mikey didn't bother to park his motorcycle properly and rushed into the old highway to search for the girl.

No fight had been initiated yet, but several men had been prying their eyes already, with a few pairs on Jishin. “Jishin?” Mikey spoke quietly as he looked at her long, black hair from behind, confirming it was her.

Once he was certain, he quickly but carefully grabbed her right shoulder. “Jishin!”

“Shit!” In instinct, Jishin swung a punch right into his cheek. “Mikey?! I’m so sorry…”

“Wow, that actually really hurts.” Mikey winced. Although stunned by her punch, he is a little amazed by her reflex and awareness.

“Hey, I’m really sorry…” Jishin whispered and held his cheek in a cradle, observing the forming bruise above his cheekbone.

“Wait, why am I sorry? You dipped on me!” She scoffed, letting go of his face.

“Why did you even come here, anyway?” He asks, pulling away from the close proximity in between them.

“Because… I want to?” Jishin pointed out.

“Hey, we should leave, I think these guys are eyeing me.” She added before dragging Mikey away, and back to his poorly-parked motorcycle.

“South’s gang put a target on us. Don’t wander alone without your team members!” He scolded, but Jishin could only smile in response. “The hell you're smiling at?”

“Just admit that you were concerned about me.” She chuckled.

“I was supposed to go with you.” Mikey paused from pacing,

“And if something happened to you… That's on me. I wouldn't know what to do.” Mikey tried to conceal the subtle croak in his voice. “Plus, Senju will murder me.” He noted, attempting to steer the conversation.

“That’s it. Nothing more than that.” He assured.

“Nothing at all?” She took a few steps before reaching for his face once more.

Mikey's instinct was to reject her sudden affection, but he didn't. He was unsure, but a part of him stayed. “No.”

In a swift movement, Jishin pushed her lips against his into a gentle kiss that she hoped poured all her emotions for him.

Mikey yelped, registering that he had just been kissed for the first time. He hummed, briefly closing his eyes before peeking once more, and then withdrawing from the kiss he refused to return.

“I’m such a mess, why do you even like me?” He queried, looking at anything but her eyes.

“I guess… cause you’re almost as messed up as I am.” She confided.

“Don’t say that, Jishin!” Mikey raised his voice. The sudden burst of emotion caused Jishin to step back, unsure of Mikey’s feelings.

The tinge of fear in her eyes feared Mikey. So in an instant, he spoke with care. “You do know that, I’ll never hurt you, right?”

“I believe you.” She smiled thinly, “and I also understand if… you’re not interested in me so… if you’re closing the door on me, I understand. I’ll leave you be.” Despite the ache, Jishin confessed as she felt the weight of the world lift from her shoulders.

“Stop talking.” Mikey conceded, his mixed signals starting to confuse her.

“Don’t say that you’re messed up, I am.” He insisted, now with genuine words and intentions.

“and … I’m not closing the door on you because if I let a day go by without seeing you…” He trailed off, letting himself fall into a trance as he returned the same soft look to her.

“Well, that day’s just no good.” He pledged. Mikey’s sudden confession urged him to sit on his motorcycle. Although he didn’t know it at the time, now, he did.

Jishin's heart skipped at his words, not expecting that he had been feeling like that at all, due to his contrary actions from their past interactions.

“But what I don’t understand is… no matter how much I’ve shown you my ‘less positive’ qualities, you’re still here.” He pointed out “Are you ill?” Mikey asks.

“No.” She denied, occupying the empty space beside him.

“Then why are you still here?”

“Do you… like it when I am?” She confided.

“I don’t hate it.” He replied. “It’s what makes me want to be a… better guy.” He admits.

Jishin sighed for a moment, exhaling a deep breath before going big and right with her words. “I think if what you’re doing and who you are with me feels right,”

Mikey grew intrigued, turning his head to her.

“Then I think it’s real.” Jishin spoke, turning to meet his gaze. and for once, the invincible mikey let his guard down and let his forehead rest on hers, appreciating the moment of vulnerability and Jishin's sensible company.

Sometimes, when someone has real feelings for someone and it feels like it doesn’t work out, they shut down to anything new until they can deal with those leftover feelings.

You fall for someone unexpectedly, but that doesn’t make it wrong. Doesn’t everyone deserve to be happy?

Yet, love defies logic. You cannot rationally enter or exit it. Love makes no sense at all.

The lovely aspect about it, though, is discovering what it has to give in all of its all-pervasive beauty together with the right person.

Mikey is not the one to let people in his life come and go. But Jishin may have been an exception.

Because if you're not taking a risk, then you're not taking a chance.

And she's worth taking it for.

An open collab for both writers and artists, meant to show appreciation for underrated and under-written characters!

Theme: Underrated and under-appreciated characters! Give me Atsushi Sendo, Choso, Connie Springer, or Takeomi Akashi! Write about the time Yuta Okkotsu got stuck in an elevator, or about the misadventures of college athlete Bertholdt Hoover! Let’s show some appreciation for our fem characters and best girls--- Sasha, Senju, Nobara, the list goes on! Overall, this summer shall be filled with love for our “fodder” characters (as Shion Madarame would put it!)

Each writer can sign up for only one work at a time. I want this to be a fun and low-stress collab! Should you finish and want to write another, you are welcome to sign up again.

You need to understand who your market is to create a compelling game that suits your markets need.

Interactive entertainment is the entertainment choice of the 21st century.

In 2010, the ESA poll found that 67% of United States households play games on regular basis

ESA results show that 64% of parents believe that games are a positive part of their children's lives, and 48% of parents play and video games with their children at least once a week.

When more than one person is playing a game the players might get motivated to interact socially with their opponents or team members.

People argue that people who prefer to stay home and play an MMO must be antisocial.

Competition- some players enjoy the thrill of competing against other players

Knowledge- Players can be motivated to gain knowledge of particular concepts, process, and strategies by playing games.

Mastery- Some players are motivated to master the game itself demonstrating their ability to dominate the game world and figure out how to become advanced players.

Escapism- Players often indicate that they are motivated to escape from the ongoing stresses of challenges of real life.

Some players indicate that they are motivated by addiction The tendency to focus on one activity at the expense of all others.

Games offer players the opportunity to take active roles in the entertainment experience, including making decisions and getting feedback.

Social Interaction, physical seclusion, competition, knowledge , mastery, escapism, and addiction, there are many reasons to play games these days.

Geographic's relate to the players’ geographic locations.

A generation is composed of people whose common location in history lends them a collective persona.

The Silent Generation grew up stay home under the secure wing of over-protective parents, while older siblings fought in the World War II and joined the Civilian Conservative Corps. A game made out of chaos would work for this generation.

The Boom Generation grew up in sheltered suburbs during post- World War 11 economic prosperity with their parents following the permissive child-rearing philosophies of Dr. Spock and working to keep the nuclear family in tact. A game with a social, spiritual, or political message would be ideal.

Gen. X grew up in a generation when America experienced its lowest birthrate ever, and when it was commonplace for families to be torn apart by divorce. A game that focuses on an independent, nomadic character who is “on the edge” and takes risks would be ideal.

Millennials were born in an era when parents proudly displayed “baby on board” placards on heir minivans. Perhaps an online game involving a lot of communication and cooperation between players would be ideal.

Main characteristics of Millennials: Networked peer-to-peer communication, Collectivist team-players, Special, Sheltered, Confident, Open, Female-dominated, Structured.

Eating and drinking in London: The Wine Place

I recently popped into The Wine Place in South Kensington to taste through some of their range. It’s a really nice space, over two floors, and as well as operating as a wine bar, also runs tastings and events, and does a bit of direct importing too. Until recently there were three sites, under the name Vini Italiani – here in South Kensington, in Covent Garden and in Greenwich. But the Greenwich site didn’t work so well, so they dropped it, and in the process changed their name to The Wine Place. They have just reopened. This also means that in the future they will be able to branch away from solely Italian wines, even though this is currently their speciality.

I started with a glass of high end Prosecco, and then went through the wines in their two enomatic machines. I really like the enomatic concept: as well as meaning that wines by the glass are always fresh, it gives you a chance to try before you buy. The wine range here – still all Italian – is wide and interesting, and I found some nice things as I tasted through.

Monte Rossa Cabochon Franciacorta 2011 Lombardia, Italy 70% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir. This is lovely stuff: tight but generous with lovely sweet pear, citrus and cherry fruit. This has nice freshness and weight with good precision as well as peachy richness. 91/100

Baldovino Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2017 Abruzzo, Italy This is 100% Trebbiano Abruzzese grown on clay/limestone soils, fermented in stainless steel. Linear with nice fruit and a twist of waxiness. Lovely pear and citrus notes. Clean, fruity and expressive with some personality. 89/100 (£12.50)

Leone Conti Albana di Romagna Albana Progetto 1 2016 Emilia Romagna, Italy 100% Albana planted in 1978 on pergola, from clay/limestone/chalk soils in the hills above Faenza. 65% barrel-ferment, 35% fermented in steel. Rich and textural with bold pear, peach and spice, as well as a hint of vanilla. Full flavoured with nice complexity. A broad, appealing white. 90/100 (£19.90)

Vini Italiani Langhe Favorita 2017 Piemonte, Italy This is one of Vini Italiani’s own label wines, made by Teo Costa in Roero, this 100% Favorita, grown on sandy soils. Very fruity and bright with nice freshness. Has bright citrus and grape notes. Very fruity and expressive. 88/100 (£14)

Tenute Viglione Falanghina 2017 Puglia, Italy From vineyards at 450 m. Nicely dense with lovely pear and peach fruit, with some spice. Nice weight and texture. Supple and expressive. 89/100 (£14.90)

Benanti Pietramarina Etna Bianco Superiore 2015 Sicily, Italy Supple and quite mineral with some lemony notes, nice freshness and weight, and a juicy lemony edge. Really interesting and textural. 91/100 (£48)

Donnofugata Vigna di Gabri 2016 Sicily, Italy This is a blend of Ansonica, Catarratto, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier, from southwestern Sicily. 85% tank fermented and 15% aged in used French oak. Waxy and herby with nice tropical notes, showing some canteloup melon and pear. Lovely texture and balance here. 90/100 (£30)

Casa di Baal Aglianico di Baal 2012 Basilicata, Italy Organic. Matured in large barrels. Lovely savoury cherry and tomato and plum fruit with a nice spicy underpinning. Has good weight and nice focus. Grainy and grippy. 91/100 (£19.50)

Viglione Sellato Primitivo 2015 Puglia, Italy Organic. Matured in larger oak. Very sweet, enticing black fruits nose. Ripe and textured with richness and lushness, but also freshness. Delicious and attractive. 91/100 (£15.50)

Condé Predappio Sangiovese MGA Riserva 2011 Emilia Romagna, Italy 70% matured in stainless steel, 30% in barrel. This has some flesh and also some nice texture with a bit of savoury development. Earth and leather hints alongside the sweet black fruits with nice density. 90/100 (£18.50)

Taurasi Pietracupa 2012 Campania, Italy Made from Aglianico grown in volcanic soils, this spends two years in large oak. Complex, savoury and with a lovely spiciness, this has appealing cherry and plum fruit with nice depth. Structured but also quite mellow with nice grip. Delicious. 93/100 (£51)

Tenuta Alfredosa Montefalco Rosso 2012 Italy 100% Sagrantino. Sweet, savoury, warm and spicy with nice grip. This has nice fine-grained tannins. Tarry with some mint and nice spiciness. Really refined. 92/100 (£47.50)

Zidarich Terrano 2014 Teran, Venezia Giulia Tarrano (translated red earth) is a red grape varietal native to the Carso (the region where Zidarich have their vineyards). This shows lovely sweet black fruits on the nose. The palate is floral with lovely blackcurrant and cherry fruit. Has such lovely purity and freshness. 94/100 (£30)
