oh hello :) im glad you liked that drawing! & sure ^_^ glad you like it too

i commonly see it interpreted as snatcher n cc acting as hats parents and while that's sweet its not how i see it at all. i like them a lot more as her adult friends who take care of her every now and then but ultimately leave and trust her to handle her stuff, not taking that much responsibility. im not sure what thatd entail but older sibling snatcher (to hat) is kind of fun i guess. EMPRESS IS BOWS AUNT FOREVER THOUGH this im hellbent on.

ok i think i wanna talk about how ccs relationship w hat n snatcher developed. i always thought of cc as someone hat is the most verbal with, relying everything that's happened to her to him. while enthralled, proud and concerned, i dont think ccs that protective of her, hes shown to be much less responsible than people usually write her as tbh. she trusts hats capabilities n skills but still definitely recognizes that she is a child in need of support, and shes certainly warm and affectionate with her, but at the same time its not intruding or obligate, like a parents affection.

i think cc would be somewhat intrigued by what's up w snatcher because their behavior is so puzzling, probably especially so from hats retellings. once snatcher becomes a regular on hats ship (not his territory=cant assert hinself as much as he does in forest), where they probably meet, i dont think shed be intimidated at all, because i dont honestly think hed try to create that impression (it certainly didn't in the cut cafe scene. like, youd expect them to force someone to pay for them, but they're just kinda docile. they cant even get the people around them to answer their question lol)

i think snatchers like immediately completely pacified by ccs presence. i dont think theyd speak at all either. its lije those silent films where you have to rely on expressions and body language to tell what means what. its a little funny abd disarming because its clear they DO want to get something across, and thats a friendly gesture. it signals engagement abd cintact being established. snatcher would probably struggle with non scripted speech so this sort of communication would probably feel the least threatening. also would add to their already strange and interesting image in ccs mind

while idk how likely snatchers would be to actually do that ive been imagining him curling up in the pillows and napping only to wake up to cc sleeping either on top of or near them, since cuddle piles are probably common among cats + ccs impulsive. they probably would straight up forget to react. maybe they wake up to cc kneading them, make eye contact. one of them remembers cat social cues and slow blinks. other one slow blinks back. snatcher lies back down allowing itself to be kneaded. cc lies down on it. it changes position to be closer to it. not a single word said the whole time. its never brought up again but not forgotten.

uhh if they do eventually begin dating and hats there to witness it she probably wouldnt care much. bow would go awwwww Aawww though. mu is disappointed in ccs taste but probably warms up to snatcher eventually since they have a lot in common + snatcher mu friendship real and important to me

i keep thinking abt that ask u got wrt jon and catnip and i was wondering if u had anything specific worked out about like. what food catpeople eat? ik they eat stew and salad at one point, but are foods that are poisonous for cats also poisonous for them??

i put like a little bit of thought into this like, i don’t think they’d be obligate carnivores but i do think they’d need more meat? like they could probably go vegetarian/vegan but theyd have to be more careful about it?

nd re poisonous/toxic substances i think they might be more prone to being allergic to certain stuff like lilies/types of pollen, have more sensitive sense of smell (probs big fans of unscented detergent and hypoallergenic bedding) and react poorly to some kinds of artificial scents, and have some types of food be harder for them to digest [i think peas in particular are not super awesome for real cats]. and lactose intolerance might be pretty much built in...? it’s strange bc they’re internally pretty human for me? but i do imagine them w sharper/longer canines and more Meat Eating teeth for sure....

i think they’d go fucking wild for some sushi... their taste/smell are probs way better than human, i can imagine them crying real tears of joy eating their monthly treat of sashimi lol, like i mean i think the reason irl cats shouldn’t have too much fish/that Too Much is like A Small Amount relatively is mostly bc of their size and catpeople are human sized so they could tolerate more of it, but the idea of jmart having a sushi night once a few weeks where jon just Inhales salmon while Weeping is good... like they def do have the human senses to cook seasoned food and like real dishes but i also think it’d be funny if catpeople genuinely seriously thought like boiled chicken was gourmet level food....

now i’m wondering abt like... oil diffusers...weed... hmm... also extremely unrelatedly i’m fondly imagining kitty people applying lotion to their paw beans during winter months bc they dry out <:)

edit: also i wrote them as eating sour cream in the fic and idk if sour cream has so little lactose that tjey wouldn’t mind [not too up to date on my lactose content knowledge] or if they just kinda Deal with it for the Tasty....

Oh damn, I actually got sucked into the story a bit that i forget to react at all to 9 and 10, got midway through the 11 johndave convo that i realized oh fuck right i should be writing this shit down

So, interestingly enough, the narrative seems to be implying that Jade wants to do a quadrant polyamorous thing with Karkat and Dave

the little mention of fledgling kismessitude with her and karkat and the later notes of her wanting to fuck both dave and karkat suggests that she wants Karkat in Spades and Dave in Hearts

though funnily enough she might actually want to flipflop between the both of them as well

because the little quip about her being determined to solve relationship problems like math problems and turning their hands flipwise behind her back just reminded me of Karkat’s attempt to partition Terezi between himself and Dave also potentially flipflopping the quadrants the same way

just this time it’s Jade not Terezi and it’s the girl not Karkat being the one to suggest it lol

She does also literally make a diamond with her hands and put Karkat and Dave at the centre of it, suggesting she doesn’t mind them being in a relationship together, but wants monopolyamory of the sexuality part of it

Dave and Karkat stay diamonds in her mind while both take turns being flush or pitch with her

It’s a perfectly mathematical arrangement

John’s not wrong when he says she has the social graces of an elephant lol

But it is clear that she does love them both and is just lonely

Everyone seems to be having similar love troubles

John considering between Roxy and Terezi and since his feelings don’t clearly lie in one direction it makes him feel guilty, cuz even when directly confronted with Dave’s situation he doesn’t really entertain the idea that he could do something similar at all, and feels really uncomfortable with Roxy’s and Calliope’s previous relationship, like he feels bad Roxy has to choose him over her, also not thinking about a love triangle as a solution rather than as a problem

Really laying it on thick the idea of having to choose between one thing or another thing in a black and white this or that only sort of way is a really difficult and tragic way of looking at the situation

Heck, they even talk about how coins flips don’t always mean you have two options

“DAVE: ok so every time you flip a coin youre creating an alternate timeline right”

Meat and Candy are alternate timelines created by a “seemingly” binary choice

“DAVE: one where it lands heads and one where it lands tails”

So choose, Meat, or Candy?

“DAVE: but while the coin is flipping both possibilities exist simultaneously”

A prologue for the epilogues existed, a time before John (The Reader) actually made a choice, but it could no futher until a choice was made, until the coin fell

“JOHN: but what if you knew for sure that you’d make the same decision no matter which side landed up?

DAVE: you cant

JOHN: so... it’s like the coin never lands then?

There is a “correct” decision for both of them, both of them do have an idea of which choice theyd prefer over the other, it’s not equalized to them, but they feel guilty about that

they dance around the idea of there being a third option, but don’t have the words to articulate what that means for them besides “not having the coin ever fall, keep it suspended forever and the choice never has to happen”

Because a Coin can’t land both heads up and tails up

but it can land perfectly on it’s razor edge if you’re lucky

You can actively choose another way, rather than just avoid making a choice

Though it is also unfortunately is also implying that both Dave and John would rather be making one choice over another

Dave doesn’t love Jade romantically, not really, he just feels guilty about her and her situation, Dave loves Karkat and here, the idea makes him panic

John doesn’t love Roxy romantically, not really, he just feels guilty about her and her situation, John loves Terezi, and here, the idea makes him panic

Both of them feel like they should try to love Jade/Roxy, just for reasons that don’t actually involve genuine romantic feeling

John focuses on the setting feeling sterotypically romantic, the diner, the pretty lights, the scene feeling right, looking at everything except her

and then that line about how Roxy’s eyes look like staring into the Void, Roxy being unreadable, and seeming to change between the routes, bringing up topics vaguely, like she’s fishing for an opinion of the person’s she’s talking to

Roxy is probably just a social chameleon, eyes like mirrors reflecting the person next to her

Looking into a mirror, you have to get past seeing your own face in the reflection, and somehow look behind your own head and that’s pretty hard to do in a mirror

then the boys immediately segue back into what it means to make the “right” choice, the “canon” choice

John understand in some way that its not enough to have only two choices, or the option to not choose at all

more and more the third option awakens, just what it will be remains to be seen, written in the leafy green

It’s not without intent that the number 3 is Canon:

Essential, True, and Relevant

So far, Meat seems to carry what is “Essential” in that it technically fulfills timeloops, hits story beats and moves things along at a good pace in a proper story format, the skeleton layout, the barebones structure

But it feels Irrelevant and ingenuine to what the characters experience, so it feels unsatisfying, it doesn’t feel “right”

it doesn’t feel canon

Candy then is obviously not essential to the story at large, it’s made very clear what happens here is technically without meaning and many of the characters are inundated with that feeling of “it doesn’t matter” irrelevance

but it also is technically truth, this timeline does exist and it did happen, these are not fake events

But since it is ONLY “True”, but not essential or relevant, it feels unsatisfying, it doesn’t feel right

it doesn’t feel canon

What then are we left with? What is missing?

And there IS something missing, they make it very clear with the stuff from PesterQuest so far

You click on the last page of the Homestuck Epilogues, then you scroll down. You read it (1). Then you read it again (2). You scroll down to go to the next section (3) and find... nothing?

What kind of ending was that? Absolutely nothing got resolved!

aka, Nothing Mattered.

Nothing was actually relevant to the story we were told.

We’re missing that hidden third pillar.

John remembers those words, essential, true, relevant, but no other contextual remarks which bind them.

He lost why it matters, he’s lost the context for it entirely.

Also, random Roxy note: “She grins up at John with shimmering, adoring eyes. They’re reflecting every star in the sky, all for him.”

Yup, she’s a social mirror, that’s why people have trouble getting a good read on her

“It makes his heart do a weird somersault. It tries to flip frontways (1), then backwards (2), and ends up landing on its face instead. (3)”

The Coin tried to flip heads, then tails, then ended up landing on it’s side

the more you look for it, the more evidence there is for that hidden third route, all of the text is cluttered with things happening in threes, first a couple of opposite situations, then a third unexpected one.

Told ya, John you got main character-ism, you can’t do anything about affecting people one way or another

I love that we saw Stef kinda talking to Lena and showing weakness to her. I hope they show more in the next episode so we can see Lena help her and being there for her (we probably won't see anything because everything important happens off screen)

Yes, I was worried that this would be a secret from Lena for a while more so I was relieved that Stef let herself be vulnerable early on. It was a beautiful scene and it’s incredible when Stef allows this.

Karma dears, it’s a big deal.

Now, she’s in full mid life crisis despair. I hope they patch it up but I doubt they will bring her back for anything.

And yes, what was lacking was some acknowledgement from Lena like a hug, a gift. If a lesbian writer can’t write this for this couple? Ugh.

1.) i ... honestly this is something i can see. finn would see a fucking cryptid on the las vegas strip or something and force everyone to go run around looking for it. keiko would be like “DAD PLEASE” and kikka and elena would team up to say that it went into a place like fucking mandalay bay ( just so they can see the weird aquariums in there im crying ) 2.) i feel like they’d go on a roadtrip in general just to find cryptids im dying. like they all meet up in los angeles and go around the united states / southern canada to find cryptids.

1.) i doubt theyd be going on roadtrips with a lot of work. elena probably only goes on roadtrips during school breaks and finn usually has to request time off Ages in advance. so therefore, they don’t really have a lot of work to worry about. 2.) im actually not too sure abt this one ... considering the only time they could go on roadtrips is during breaks, they don’t have much work to do.

Imagine your OCs stopping by the side of a quiet road to go stargazing. Bonus points if they all end up falling asleep together, warm, happy, and surrounded by their friends

You know, I’ve seen lots of fics where Subaru’s friends react to his return by death in some contrived circumstance, like in a movie theater. However, I’ve never seen a fanfic where Subaru’s parents react to his life in Lugnica without return by death, seeing his actions without any context. How do you think that would play out?

well im not really much of a fanfic person so i dont think i cant eloquently write out the scenario itself... but if theyre not seeing the return by death theyd at least be spared seeing their son graphically die repeatedly, regardless of if hes "okay" after i cant imagine that would be anything but horrifying beyond words.

if theyre only seeing his actions the way the other characters see them then they probably wouldnt be as devastated at least, but subaru still goes through some pretty fucked up shit even in only the "main" timeline. i think theyd still be sad their son had to go though that. but i can also see them being very proud of him for the good hes done. and also want to scold him for all the dangerous shit he gets up to on a regular basis (does he have a death wish or something!?). mixed feelings would probably be an understatement.

if they were just getting a general overview of his life on legunica, maybe from his friends or something, i feel like theyd be a lot happier with it, especially if they see hes happy and loved by all his very weird friends. because thats all they want for him anyway. if they were actually seeing DETAILS of what happened i can imagine theyd have some more complex feelings about all the near-death experiences his friends were involved in though lol

but, you know, like naoko herself said "what matters isn't how you start. it's how it ends" and i think she would be happy to know her son took that advice to heart, even if it was from a version of herself that his brain made up to tell him what his mom WOULD say. and shed be happy to know that her son quoted it by saying it was told to him by the woman he respects the most in the world.

and kenichi... hes a pretty eccentric person already and a lot of subarus mannerisms, especially early on, were just mimicking his father. i think hed be proud to see him grow up into his own person with his own friends and identity, but i also think hed be sad he wasnt there for it. i think they both would be. i think one of the biggest tragedies of re:zero is how much naoko and kenichi love their son more than anything in the world.

but to quote naoko again "we didnt have you so you could do something for us, we had you so we could do something for you." so i think... at the end of the day... if they believed that despite everything subaru still ended up happy and loved they would let him go too. but it would hurt. because they love their only son so much. it would sting at least a little to see him thrive in a world you couldnt reach. but it would also be a hell of a relief to know hes not dead in a ditch somewhere... bittersweet but far better than the alternative of just never knowing what happened.

Gamzee here asking if she might sound a bit xenophobic is actually pretty cunning coming from him, and not the stupid comment it sounds like, he’s riling her up like he’s got her wrapped around his codpiece, which, he kinda does tbh

he’s actually doing a very good job of fanning the flames and honestly probably doing exactly what Dirk would have doing had he been in his position, minus boinking her of course

Oh she finally gets rid of him though, far too little too late though

Love how the last thing on Gamzee’s mind is just more selfish junk though

though if he’s not immediately killed by her security detail he’s just gonna go on his own murderous rampage again, that what he do after all

BINGO! That’s what’s wrong, that’s what been wrong this whole time

John’s been unintentionally influencing the people around him to do what he thinks they want to do, not what they actually want to do, so they’ve all been slowly warped over time by John’s perceptions of them, and the more John’s react to their changes, the more changes happen to them and their personalities

like some kind of butterfly effect

Jane starts out neutral but says something ignorant about trolls, innocently even, john gets the thought “wow, that was kind of xenophobic, i wonder if she wants to dislike trolls?” and upon thinking that, instead of being an innocent ignorance that could have been cleared up, now it’s actually true because John thinks its true

and then just, that, over and over again, each time the warp and the contrast increasing until we get this basically, everyone just a horrendously skewed version of themselves with traits that John honed in and accepted about them from assumptions about them

so, yeah in a way, this is all kind of John’s fault just not the way he imagined

“JOHN: whatever i did, or didn’t do, just... destroyed reality’s ability to, like, substantiate itself, or whatever.

JOHN: like there’s a bug in the operating system of whatever force in this world that regulates cause and effect.”

Yeah that bug is probably called that house cursor thing, in a story, a bug in the system is called a plot hole, referring to it as a bug when referencing software probably makes sense since in the sburb game sense it probably IS just a cursor that “dropped” out of someone’s game window when it shouldn’t have, like a glitch

oh godammnit can someone just kill the clown? Vriska can you just kill Gamzee please

why all the weirdly specific wrestling moves though, I can’t even follow cuz I don’t even know what’s happening or what all these terms mean

so varying levels of essentialness and relevance is Candy? hmm less so and less so over time

the way Rose is talking though, it makes it seem like the canon story of Homestuck just isn’t a happy one

and well, from her perspective it isn’t, Meat is technically so far the canon one to her

but remember This Rose could never see past the Candy or the Meat, she was blinded to everything else except it, even now she’s blind to anything outside of her current story, she can’t even tell things are fake anymore, John is unfortunately not so lucky

so a third route where things can be both satisfying and true is still possible, maybe not from here, not from now, but out there somewhere its still possible

So it’s not like we all have to give up on Homestuck quite yet

wow I really should have actually read these epilogues sooner, it’s really not as horrible as everyone was making it out to be, because it’s making it abundantly clear that it’s not a binary choice between Meat or Candy

it’s just that any other possible route simply doesn’t exist yet, and may not exist until something changes in canon itself (hint, probably pesterquest mc)

in it’s current state, all Homestuck has is Meat or Candy

but that doesn’t mean the story of Homestuck as it is now can’t change or be retconned further

I’m still ignoring all references to the clown from here on out

It’s weird because like, the answer, yet again, to the question “Should I have control total control over everything or I should not have any control over anything” is always going to be “no, wrong question, both are wrong, the real answer is you should have some control to effects things, and not just YOU, everyone should have control over their own destinies”

we need to get the cursor juju, blend it into a milkshake and have everyone take part in a big old toast to it and then have them all come together and rewrite homestuck together

Get Ultimate John, Jade, Dave and Rose to all sit down and make a roadmap for their own story and have that be Homestuck 2.0 and live in that forever

and like, everyone get’s to decide what happens in their own stories and where’d theyd like to be except Lord English, he unquestioningly evil and can’t be convincingly “undone” I think because all of his shittyness has to come back to some person, and i think that’s likely to be Caliborn or Gamzee at the end of the day

heh, Caliborn and Gamzee = Calamzee, almost sounds like a corrupted word for Calamity

Anyway, yeah all it took at the end for John to finally dip into the illusion is a big old blast of HopeChange from Jake English

and so obviously I’m going to address the use of the word Change here in this context

it’s capitalized, and obviously used in Reference to Jake’s overall Classpect

which seems to be implying a connection to Witch as a Change Class

but Hope in it’s nature is already a natural catalyst of a Changing force itself, it was once the power to make fake things real in Homestuck proper, and of course one off hand word in connection to Witch is simply not enough to overthrow a larger pile of evidence in a different direction which is that Knight and Page are the obvious class pairing (looking at you “more magical Witch” Sylph, now you got a real competition! lol)

Now taken that with everything we know about “real” and “fake” when it comes to the epilogues

and that the idea of Canon has been associated with that white glow of satisfaction overall

Jake English is probably once again more key to what would be a satisfying canon story than anything else, same with the cursor Juju

maybe the Juju then doesn’t need to be key either, maybe the key is just everyone spreading their own powers over eachother and using that as the medium to write the story again

I’m getting really hung up on the idea of the characters themselves deciding to fix the problems in their existence by going back into canon and writing out their own personally satisfying arc conclusions overtop of their origin stories and having genuine conversation about things when their stories overlap with eachother and taking the time to respect and help manifest eachother’s wishes as well as their own, like a grand cosmic god version of just living life and being friends would have done in the first place, no canon adjusting powers needed

Anyway, Almost done with Candy now, just got a few more pages to go
