Warning! Spoilers for Stranger Things Season 5!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.) (El talking) ‘what if you prefer us more as/than friends’ (note: each denotes a very different mindset in el than the other)
2.) (El talks) well, if we win/live, we can have a happily ever after
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3.) (El talks) No. You should have (I am 99% certain of this considering what I can reasonably say I know about the hospital)
4.) (you should have been there?) but so much has happened, if it’s too much, you know…
Tumblr media
5.) if it’s too much, you know… Will was with me…. you’re all friends to me
Tumblr media
6.) so it’s okay, yes!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7.) El says something beginning with ‘but what if’)
8.) Of of course, you can X with me, whatever you’d like! - El seems to laugh at this. Perhaps Mike exaggerates her original words?
Tumblr media
9.) but I mean…whatever happens… shrug
Notes:
I was running these for comparison against a partial m*leven transcript I’ve seen on twitter. The only plausible line,as far as I can see, is their reading of the first one as “but what if something happens to the both of us?” They read the next line as “… whatever happens, happens” and I can kind of see it but overall I think his mouth is too busy. They posited he was proposing running away or leaving Hawkins after everything ends and framed it around that, but I don’t agree with the choices they made - eg “I will come with you” instead of what I see: “of course you can still…with me”
The ‘Will’ part is obviously the part I’m least sure of. I’m really just conjecturing based on leaks. The best I can say is that I’ve checked it against clips of Mike saying Will’s name and it looks roughly the same but not conclusive. I am quite sure of ‘you’re all friends to me’.
I used @byler-endgayme’s excellent AI enhanced video here and put it into gifrun to make these gifs. It’s important to note that, between takes, Millie was wiping her eyes and nose. She was on a roof in January so she could have just been tearing up (and her nose running) from the cold. Finn doesn’t seem affected in the video here (from @cloudycleric) but women do have lower basal body temperatures than men. However, she could also have been tearing up in-character as Millie, suggesting it’s an emotional and heavy/cathartic scene. It’s also very important to note that this video is catching them in the middle of the conversation, and that there’s undoubtedly crucial stuff at the start that we’re not privy to.
It’s also worth noting that m*leven have had problems in episode 2s since season 2 - El reaching out to touch Mike and him walking away from the call, their breakup, and their disastrous roller rink date. Atlanta-filming insinuates in a comment that this occurs after the hospital plot in episode 2, and I will be discussing all of that in a big post out later today - and I have discussed it here already. The TLDR is that Mike is injured at the hospital and Will shows up distraught, but El is nowhere to be found - hence, why I’m reasonably confident that what he says is “no, you should have, you should have been there…”

Make Me Yours
Male Yandere x Reader
Tumblr media
"I just... really wanna put a collar on a cute guy."
You didn't even mean to say it out loud, but your best friend since middle school had always been super open with this sort of stuff. You've always been the first one she texts when a date goes really well, or really terribly. And a lot of your coffee meetups, like this one, devolve into her oversharing all the juicy details of her relationships.
"Oh wow." She nudged you with a grin. "Didn't know you had it in you!"
Unable to meet her eyes, you try to defend your stray thought. You remind her of some of the jerks you've dated, how their assertive and self-assured personalities had all quickly turned into a bit too aggressive and controlling. In certain situations, in controlled doses... that could lead to a nice time. But it's all fun and games until you try to explain away some of their worse moments to your coworkers and swiftly realize you're in "that kind" of relationship. You wonder if you give off some kind of energy that attracts creeps...
The thought of finding a guy who would not only let you take the reins but maybe even prefer you taking charge? It gave you a little thrill you're almost embarrassed to admit.
"Well, it's nothing to get all twisted up over." she shrugs, taking a sip of her iced latte. "You'll find the right guy that's into that kind of thing."
You smiled, she really was trying to encourage you with this, and it was oddly sweet of her.
"Oh, look!" she scooted closer to you, showing you her phone screen. "There's tons of collars you can get. You thinkin' like leather, classic S&M style? Or somethin' more cutesy?"
Maybe a little too encouraging, sometimes.
~ Somewhere very close by...~
His hands were shaking. Your words were playing on repeat in his head, drowning everything else out.
As if you weren't already perfect. He'd been so jealous of you meeting up with your friend, but if it made this conversation happen so he couldn't be too upset about it. He'd been trying to think of some way to make you his for so long... But being yours? Wearing something like that? Something that said he belonged only to you?
He was already yours. But a little proof never hurt.
. . .
It was late, and you decided to cut through the park to get home quicker. It was a pretty safe area, but you didn't want to be here any longer than you had to be. A few lights lit up the main path and you didn't see anyone else around.
But that didn't mean you were alone.
"Hey..."
You spin around to see... some guy. You'd never met him before, but he was... making A LOT of eye contact.
He was cute though. Soft, fluffy hair and piercings in his ears, his bright eyes poking out from beneath his bangs. And he had at least six inches on you, but not really an intimidating frame, a bit skinny too. The way he was looking at you was making you nervous, but you weren't sure if it was a "Oh, this is unexpected." kind of nervous or a "You're gonna end up in his basement." kind of nervous.
"You probably don't remember me but, uh...we had a few classes together last year and…"
He seemed really nervous himself, trailing off with some color in his cheeks. You tell him politely that you were sorry, but you didn't remember him.
"That's okay, uh..."
He was breathing kind of funny, his eyes still staring into yours. You asked him what he needed, hoping it would speed this along and you could leave.
He took a breath, and all you could do was stare, wondering if you should distract him and make a break for it.
"I... I've liked you. For a long time. It's like... like everything about you is just so... wonderful! Seeing you every day keeps me going! I was okay just watching but then... Sorry, sorry. I'm c-coming on too strong, I..."
He took a step towards you, moving like he was going to touch you, but you instinctively took a step back. He looked a little hurt.
"No, no please, don't be scared! I just... I thought it was the right time... I've been thinking about this for so long! I just wanted to..."
He dropped to his knees and the look in his eyes was almost...like he worshipped you. Like you were everything to him and nothing else mattered. It was a bit overwhelming...
"I heard you talking to your friend the other day. Not, uh, not in a weird way, I swear! I-it's just... It's all I can think about..."
He stared at you, a glimmer of something in his eyes. You could see a tremble in his hands, like he was debating reaching out for you again. But he was holding himself back.
Seeing him kneeling, looking up at you with a want that burned into you... It was doing something to you.
This was a weird, kinda scary, unbelievable situation. But it felt so...
Good.
You felt bold. Deciding to go for broke, you finally spoke again.
You asked him to tell you what he wanted.
You could see the tremble shoot through his frame, the smallest, quietest gasp when the your words finally registered.
"I want... I want you to look down at me, just like this! I want you to run your fingers through my hair and tell me I'm a good boy. Your good boy! I want to cuddle up to you and hear your heartbeat while you hold me, I... I want you to use me... I want you to yank my collar if I get too excited and tell me to behave."
He laughed softly at the thought, this guy was completely smitten.
"I want to be yours, if that'll make you happy..."
He reached into his back pocket, you heard the gentle clink of the collar before you saw it. It was like some kind of odd proposal, except he was down on both knees.
He held it up to you, his eyes clouded with a want that made your face feel hot.
So painfully slowly, you reached out for him, your fingers flinching back for a split second, rational thought desperately trying to break through. But despite all the reasons you could think this was completely crazy, you still wanted this.
You touched his cheek, and he didn't hesitate to lean into your hand with a contented, dreamy sigh.
The power he was giving you was... new, exciting, maybe a bit intoxicating. And he was offering it all so willingly, you wondered if this was all a dream.
"I wanna be your good boy..." His voice was soft but pleading, almost desperate. "Please..."
His smile was making your brain feel fuzzy, seeing him looking up at you like you were his whole world.
"Make me yours."

◡̈⋆ʜᴇʟʟᴏ(●’◡’●)ノ I saw that your request are open, could write some headcanons of sir pentious fluffy/romantic or nsfw (whichever you're comfortable with) thank you :) (we need more of this snake boi)
A/N: hi there! I've already done a Sir Pentious post like this, but I'm gonna do part 2s sometimes for headcanons!
Part 1 | Part 2
Character: Sir Pentious
Type: Headcanons (Sir Pentious x reader, Fluff, NSFW)
With Sir Pentious it would really be a toss-up of who would ask who out. If he asks you it takes him a couple of tries. He has a bad habit of psyching himself out when it comes to romance, but he's trying. If you're the one to ask him on the other hand, he may think you're joking.
On the first date, Pentious would honestly try to go above and beyond to impress you. He would put on a false bravado, act like someone he's not. But you'd best believe once you two get past that, you're golden!
Your first kiss was also pretty awkward. Between his fangs and both of your over-enthusiasm, it was pretty sloppy, but you'd best believe he still cherished it! He immediately asks for a do-over, 1. because he knows that he can do better, and 2. he's pretty much decided that kissing you has become one of his new favorite activities.
Let's be honest, sir seems like a chess guy. That being said, if you don't already know how to play, he would very much like to teach you! Chess can admittedly be a complicated game if you don't know what you're doing, but Pentious would be patient with you every step of the way. And should you one day beat him in the game, he's positively ecstatic! You'll make him want to learn how to play better!
WARNING NSFW AHEAD
if you give both members attention at the same time, there's a good chance he'll either climax early, or you'll just overstimulate him outright. He has feeling in both of his cocks, so that's something to keep in mind when you're taking the lead
When it comes to our beloved genius, he has a number of tells for when he's really into it. Like when his hood(for those who don't know its the part that looks like his hair) will flare open. He's also pretty vocal, as in he's the chatty sort. He'll tell you how well you're doing and how amazing you make him feel.
When the two of you are intimate, he likes being close to you, touching you as much as possible. He fucking loves how it feels to be pressed up against you. Whether its cuddling or holding onto you during sex, he wants it.

This needs a part 2 Part 2?! I need part two of this 💗 Part 2 🥺🙏 pleaseee omgg this is so good! part 2 pls
I stood in her little hospital room, I admit doing my best to be professional given her cute little green dress. She looked so cute even if it was clear she was worried so I did my best to keep her comfortable even if Samus wasn't helping as he loomed in the corner as I examined her over her clothes as Samus wouldn't let me examine her without them and asked her questions most of which made her blush but I kept reassuring her it was merely for medical purposes. I have been researching constantly since Samus told me her symptoms and unfortunately, I think my theory is correct.
"Enough." Samus snapped as I had been listening to her back,
"Samus. I get your protective. but I am a doctor." I snapped back at him, "Let. me. Work."
"Samus, please Just let Jack work." She spoke up,
"Ten minutes not a second more." He glared leaving the room and waiting outside,
"Thank you for that."
"You're welcome, I imagine working with an audience is not enjoyable."
"Ohh he's nothing I do amputations with a crowd of twenty hovering over me."
"Oh goodness, must be uncomfortable."
"It can be, I rather like it. Let's me add a little showmanship."
She giggled, "I imagine so," she nodded, "So? anything?"
"...while we have time, take your dress off."
"Doctor Dawkins... I-" she gasped,
"Please, I need to examine you without your dress and you know Samus isn't going to let that happen."
"Yes... of course," she blushed slowly peeling off her dress, and I did my best not to... look but, fuck I wanna look, the moment I saw skin I bit my lip and did my best to savour the sight forever, just the mere sight of her bare shoulders and corset was enough to rattle me more than any woman I had ever met, I didn't want to waste time doing my best to examine her as best I could and I got my answer,
"Okay, Alright, you uhhh you can put your dress back now," I told her,
She nodded, "Do you know what's wrong?"
"I do. Yeah."
"Does it have a name?
"It does... familial adenomatous polyposis"
"Translation? Please?"
"It's an inherited condition likely came somewhere in the family tree, you get build up in your stomach and colon one tumour turns bad and... it kills you." I explained, "It's a marvel Samus didn't get it too."
"... Am I going to die? Like my mother?" She asked the fear in her voice as she spoke,
I didn't know how to answer her, but I moved closer set one hand on her hip and the other on the bed, I brought my face to her shoulder close enough I could feel the heat radiating off her skin, I pressed my lips to the bare skin of her shoulder giving her a long and tender kiss, I inhaled her sweet lavender and toffee scent for a moment, I felt her jump in shock at the surprise of the kiss and in the corner of my eye I saw her smile. When I had strength I pulled my lips away giving a short kiss to the exact same spot before I rested my chin there,
"You will, if you don't have surgery," I told her,
Her fear washed over her tears welling up in her eyes, "difficult surgery?"
"It will require a very intensive abdominal surgery."
"Can you do it?" she asked turning to face me,
for a moment I didn't answer, "That's just what I'm worried about..."
"if you can, is it worth the risk?"
"It's worth it. a thousand times over it's worth it. If you allow me to do this... I can fix you. You won't have to worry about this ever again,"
"Or... I die like my mother, suddenly without warning."
"Y/n. I'm a doctor, you can't just expect me to let you go without treatment." I told her, "I know your scared, I know it seems impossible, but I swear you can live a normal life."
"And if the surgery goes wrong? and I die anyway?"
"Then I'll never forgive myself."
"I... I don't know Jack, I honestly don't know."
"do you not trust me?"
"I... I do. I trust you as much as I trust my own brother Jack," She answered, "I just..."
"Y/n. Believe me I will take the best utmost care of you I possibly can, give you the best room, the best tools, the best care I can."
"why would you do that for me?"
"... Becuase... I care about you y/n." I told her, "Not just because you're Samus' sister, but... Becuase I like you."
she seemed taken aback by my words, "Y-You do?" she asked her smile cracking across her face with such endless joy, "I- I do too!"
"You do! You mean it?"
she nodded nearly crying
"Ohh my sweet little thing," I cooed stroking her face,
"I'm in love with you Jack,"
"I... I love you too, I- I have to be honest with you Y/n I did uhh I did tell Samus how I feel about you."
She giggled, "I take it that's part of why he won't let us be alone?"
"It is,"
"I told him how I felt about you too,"
"Yeah, then that's definitely why he won't let us be alone." I chuckled, "He said... if I could fix you, He'd let me marry you. Is- Is that something you'd want?"
"More than anything Jack,"
"Then will you let operate? So we can get married?" I asked taking her hand
"I will, I trust you." she nodded squeezing my hand back,
"Alright, I'll get you the best room sorted."
She smiled and fixed her dress just in time before Samus returned.
I sat in the chair admittedly nervous but I just wanted it all to be over,
"You sure you wanna go through with this?" Samus asked,
"I'm sure," I nodded,
"Alright, he kills you I-"
"I know Samus. I know."
"You know what will happen if he messes up."
"I do. But I also know what will happen if he doesn't," I explained, "and I'm willing to risk it."
"You really love him that much."
"I do,"
"Alright," he nodded,
"You ready?" Jack asked as he came to fetch me,
"I am," I nodded,
"Alright, come on sweetheart. let's get you cosy," he said happily patting my hand and starting to move the chair taking me into the theatre where everything set up for the surgery Samus followed of course looming, Jack helped me up onto the table and got me settled, "You alright?"
"Yeah, scared."
"It's okay, it's alright to be stated. I'm gonna take care of you, don't you worry about a thing." he said, "When you wake up in that cosy bed, I'll be there to hold your hand I promise. And it'll all be over." he explained holding my hand, "Okay?"
"Okay." I nodded,
He smiled and fixed my hair from my eye, I did my best not to be scared but I was being buckled to an operating table not exactly the most relaxing of situations, Jack noticed my fear and he smiled warmly "Come here you," He cooed stroking my cheek and giving my lips a sweet kiss, I blushed hard and kissed back fireworks going off in my mind as we kissed I never wanted our kiss to end.
"Hey! You're not married yet!" Samus argued, "Back off my little sister Jack."
I sighed as Jack pulled away, "Samus, you're my big brother and I love you, but fuck off." I told him, "I'm a twenty-year-old woman I can do what I want."
"Fine." He pouted,
"Ohhh, feisty girly," Jack smirked a moment, "Now, just breathe gently for me and I promise this will all be over soon."
I nodded and took gentle and slow breaths, slowly breathing in the anaesthetic until my vision faded.
I slowly opened my eyes seeing the ceiling of the hospital room, the bed around me soft and cosy with blankets and sheets, my body hurt at a level of pain I did not comprehend and a hand in my own. I looked over and saw Jack holding my hand asleep in the chair. I smiled and for a while just watched him sleep clearly exhausted but I squeezed his hand a few times which woke him up, he opened his eyes and smiled as he saw me,
"Hey sweetheart, how are you feeling?"
"Like you cut open my stomach and made butter in my organs."
"I mean... that's not that far off from what I did actually." he chuckled, "But it's all good, all done your all better."
"I am?"
"Yeah, you need a while to rest and recover but after that, you'll be fine." he smiled kissing my hand,
"Thank you, Jack,"
"My pleasure, really. I'm happy you're okay." he smiled, "And... now you're all fixed?"
"I take it Samus is pouting?"
"No, he's warming up slowly. I think he just doesn't wanna admit how happy he is you're okay." he explained, "And how excited he is to have me as a brother-in-law."
I giggled, "Yeah I Imagine he is,"
"But I'm even happier you're okay, and even more excited, to have Samus as a brother-in-law, and you as my wife."
"I'm excited to have you as muy husband too Jack." I smiled,
"You're too sweet," he cooed,
"I don't know how I'll ever repay you for this,"
"You don't need to, I couldn't let the woman I love suffer could I?"
"No, I suppose. But I will be making you lots of cookies when I'm better."
"Oooh... I mean, you don't need to. But... I will be thrilled to receive them you do."
"That's a deal, cookies for my sweet husband who fixed me."
"Awww, I can't wait till you're all rested."
"Me too." I nodded,
"Did you want anything? another blanket? pillow? open a window? anything at all?"
"I have one request, Jack?"
"Oh? and what's that?"
"Could I have a kiss?" I smiled,
He chuckled, "You can have as many kisses as you want sweetheart," he cooed happily giving my lips a sweet soft kiss.

hi if you don’t mind me asking I’d love to hear more about serrated duo parallels?
Alright, just to make sure we are on the same page because I'm not sure if many people know who am I even talking about when I say serrated duo, I mean this pair of goofballs who I love very much.
Tumblr media
Fuckass essay about them and how this thing even came to be (which is not what you asked for but it's still important I think) under the cut, as a warning though this is EXTREMELY long, i'm also writing it assuming the readers have played ruina to completion, have at least glanced at the ruina artbook once and are decently familiarized with the pjm universe and its terminology.
"But Spec", you may (and reasonably so) say, "these guys show up in different story tiers, one is a glorified ranged attack tutorial with a minor lore exposition attached to him and the other doesn't even have anything going on due to being a general reception, what the hell".
So let's get into this, more meticulously organized than some essays I've submitted for my uni classes because I care that much about these guys (don't be like me and do your uni projects, please).
Table of contents:
How the fuck did this even come to be 1.1. Me yapping about character dessign
Liwei as a character 2.1. The surface 2.2. Emotional internal nature 2.3. Resentment
Dong Hwan as a character (sorry can't separate him into many categories bc there's NOTHING THERE man i'm absolutely grasping for straws here i KNOW it, but please bear with me)
Summarizing parallels
If you don't feel like sitting through my attempts to contextualize how this ship came to be and me desperately grasping for straws, feel free to skip all the way down to part 4
1.- How the fuck did this even come to be
Honestly the whole thing started as a sleep deprivation shitpost I rolled with because yeah i like these two guys a lot (if you read that one post talking among other things about why I like liwei so much in the first place, the short reply also applies to dong hwan and... Yeag, the only thing that's better than one hot guy is two hot guys and so on).
There was also an interesting aspect about this because maybe it's just me but based of liwei's dialogue lines and keypage text he suggests not trusting, or even liking/admiring/looking up to, high graded fixers (despite feeling that he's supposed to). With an emphasis put into colors because, I mean, he fucking died because he met one at the wrong moment, but I feel it's a general thing he feels for grade 2s and above.
With this in mind, putting him to interact with a grade 1 is... at the very least it has the potential to put them into a funny mutual vitriol kind of dynamic with lw constantly thinking "what's the deal with this guy? does he expect me to praise him just for having a high grade? well, tough luck, i'm no bootlicker" and dh constantly thinking "what's wrong with this man? is he unable to recognize greatness even if it punched him in the face...? should i punch him in the face?", but it becomes far more interesting when you try to imagine (and, with dong hwan being an absolute background character we can only assume things of from extremely vague hints, pretty much all we can do about him is imagining) what made them both special enough for each of them to think "wait, hold on, i actually like this guy" of the other.
After the initial shitpost stage was over, we (the guy who came up with serrated duo while sleep deprived and me) started talking about why we liked both characters and we essentially concluded that, at least dessign wise, they are the same type of guy (ofc I also added a couple of characters I like and who fit the criteria to my post but this post isn't about them).
1.1.- Me yapping about character dessign
On top of that, if you pay attention specifically to liwei and dong hwan in there, you can notice that there's a pretty neat balance of common and contrasting themes in their dessigns, almost in a two sides of the same coin way, so here's a non exhaustive list:
both characters have a primarily monochrome/dark aesthetic going on, with their eyes being the primary colored element that stands out in their dessigns (yeah, you could say that dh has brown hair too but it's a dark shade of brown that doesn't catch the eye nearly as much as the bright-yet-deep shade of red of his eyes)
on top of that, liwei's eyes are blue while dong hwan's are red (i thought they were reddish brown at first but that's just an effect of the transparency, if you separate the sprite in it's different parts, you'll notice his eyes are actually red), which happens to link with a certain trope about two-sides-of-the-same-coin pairs... (will elaborate on this later trust me).
despite the previously mentioned similar monochrome aesthetic, there's a clear contrast between their styles and how they wear their clothes, with liwei having a much more "only informal if it's more practical that way" type of look, with a focus on practicality over trying to stand out too much (for the most part at least, he was dessigned with the idea of a cool guy in mind after all), while dong hwan is essentially wearing a business suit in the most fucked up way possible (really, what the fuck dong hwan), which of course makes his dessign incredibly memorable. To further elaborate on this (and to add details that don't really follow this formal until unpractical/informal AND unpractical pattern): -Liwei's clothes stay in similar shades of grey and black giving him a more uniform look, while dong hwan uses more contrasting shades in his clothing (despite wearing primarily black clothes, that light grey shirt absolutely stands out, and by extension he does) -Liwei wears long boots, while dong hwan wears regular shoes -Liwei wears a long coat, while dong hwan wears a short jacket -Liwei has a fully buttoned dress shirt with a tie, dong hwan wears his shirt unbuttoned, in an universe where clothes are basically like armor this is essentially him saying that he's confident that his opponents won't be able to hit him in the chest, or that even if they did he wouldn't get too hurt from it, and it's a dessign detail that absolutely stands out in an universe where most characters only show skin in their head, neck and hands at most, as we know since its stated in multiple keypages and cutscenes, if a character shows more skin than the absolutely bare minimum, then that means that A. they are inmensely strong, and B. they are even more confident in their capacities, with this being a tactic to intimidate potential enemies for many factions -Liwei wears fingerless gloves while dong hwan wears regular gloves, while at first glance this detail seems to subvert the pattern, let's be real here... have you tried to hold any object and using it properly with gloves? unless you're wearing latex gloves or something made of very thin fabric that shit's absurdly hard, of course i assume there's weird city tech involved in dh's gloves but at least that's my own personal impression of that particular contrast)
and going back to common but not really details: both characters have something noteworthy in their ears (this is most likely just a result of the characters being visible as chibis in game so the best way to give them memorable dessigns is by slapping somewhat unique stuff in their faces and heads BUT IM GRASPING FOR STRAWS HERE OK) with liwei's earpiece (which serves a practical function) and dong hwan's earrings (which look cool as hell, going in line with both characters' general priorities)
similarly, both have something in their opposite eyes, with liwei partially covering his right eye with his hair and dong hwan having the scar going through his left eye.
the right-left motif is actually very relevant in their dessigns. You see, most character sprites in ruina switch the hand in which they're holding their weapons for certain frames (or at least, this is not uncommon to see), either for rule of cool, clearer silhouettes or whatever reasons. However, in every frame in which liwei is visibly holding his knife, he holds it with his left hand (and when he uses his pistol he holds it with both hands), suggesting that he may be left handed. On the other hand (see what I did there?), dong hwan consistently holds his knife with his right hand, in every. single. frame. of his sprite, suggesting that he's right handed instead.
And of course, both of them have elements in their opposite legs too, with liwei having these two stupid fucking belts (affectionate) in his right leg while dong hwan has... whatever the fuck that thing is, in his left leg.
Of course I'm not here saying that they were given contrasting dessigns on purpose, but all these details end up making both of them looking really cool when put together, specially with how their dessigns emphatize their personal preferences and priorities, something I will elaborate upon in each character's section later.
2.- Liwei as a character
Liwei is one of my favorite pjm characters as a whole, yes i like him more than ayin, yes i like him more than angela, yes i like him more than carmen, yes i like him more than dante, yes i like him more than your favorite sephirah/patron librarian/sinner, no im not saying i think any of these characters is bad or poorly written and in fact i think pjm has made an amazing job with protagonists so far catching my interest even with characters i thought i wouldn't vibe with at all, but i have a thing for unremarkable background guys.
As you may have guessed, this means that i have a lot, and i mean A LOT to say about him.
This also means that I have a very specific interpretation of him, this interpretation, while clearly taking bases from what we can see of him in game, is entirely fanmade and i'm not trying to claim this is what anyone intended to convey with him, but it's what makes sense for me.
This interpretation also strays away from some other fan characterizations I've seen of him. So if you think he's actually, at his core, a serious, formal, emotionally detached and unbearably professional, even outside work hours, guy who's deeply dedicated to the honorable task of murder and who is in good terms with the shi association or holds them in high regard? sorry, but for me he's nothing like that.
2.1- The surface
"But Spec", you may say again, "he does act emotionally detached during his cutscene, he even says that people die all the time! are you sure you are actually reading this character right?"
Of course I'm not, I'm just saying that I'm reading him in a way that makes enough sense to me, but I do have reasons to believe that the serious and emotionally detached attitude is an akward mixture of a facade he puts up to be taken seriously by others and an incredibly unhealthy coping mechanism, so let's start by analyzing his artbook profile...
Tumblr media
Wait a minute, is that..?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok, I'll see myself out and continue writing the actual character analysis this is what people are here for.
Anyway, going back to the character profile, you may be inclined to see it and assume "well, that actually just proves that he's a serious and formal dude" at first, until you realize that artbook profiles, due to their in-universe explaination being that they were compilled by roland and angela from the information they could take out of the guests' books, are most likely to be about what the guests perceive themselves as/would say to describe themselves rather than what they actually are when looked at from an outsider's perspective. Further proof of the artbook profiles being subjective comes from how the profiles change almost erratically for distortions and ego users, with people in the middle of both states simply not knowing how to describe themselves, the fact that we lack any information about the agents of the head as they were never booked, or how characters such as tomerry have...
Tumblr media
This, which I mean, it's very clear that's just tomerry talking about themselves.
Now, liwei's personality traits, or at least what he'd use to describe himself, are "Meticulous, Efficient, and Sharp". We know that he has to be efficient at the very least, considering the nature of his job and guns in universe, the same thing goes for meticulous, we can assume he wants to do things the right away so that he gets paid, sharp as a personality descriptor can take multiple meanings and frankly i don't know which was the original korean word used to describe him so i can't tell which is the right one but most of them seem pretty accurate, at least when looking at him from a surface perspective.
To be honest, I don't think any of the traits mentioned there is precisely wrong, I simply don't think that they are the main or core ones, but they are the traits liwei tries to show, at least.
Another interesting detail is that all full stop fixer artbook profiles have food related items for the likes and and dislikes sections, except for stephan disliking dangerous jobs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not particularly noteworthy for this category in particular but still tangentially linked to a point that I believe is also a core characteristic of all three full stop fixers and that is key to understand all three of them, their dynamics and the choices they make during their reception: they are Poor As Shit, because guns and bullets are expensive of course, we also get to see this in stephan's obssesive fixation in money (come on nobody actually checks their bank account as a hobby... right, guys?), and of course this ties in with wanting to be seen as someone serious and professional people will trust with their money AND with the idea of them having the need to maximize efficiency to... well... you... you know... not end up even worse than they actually are.
2.2- Emotional internal nature
Alright, and here we dwell into the actually spicy part of the essay, at least for liwei's character: the moments in which the mask of a professional and emotionally detached guy cracks and he shows his more emotional, and mostly caring, side. This is focused in the way in which he treats stephan and tamaki (compared with how several other faction leaders treat their underlings).
While I should probably need to read all the dialogue in the game to make sure this is a particularly notorious detail, something that inmediately caught my attention is... the fact that liwei never uses a single honorific when refering to other people, neither he's bothered by stephan's more informal speech and the fact that he doesn't refer to him by any honorific or title either (sure, you could say this is because they were in a life or death situation but also y'know, it says something about you that the people below you don't feel the need to use formalities when talking to you), the only person he calls by title instead of first name is... well, the blue reverb, whose real name we can assume he didn't know, with also him being someone perfectly capable of killing not only him but the guys standing beside him as well, you'd want to be as respectful as possible when talking to a guy like that and trying to negotiate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(even then he doesnt use any sort of honorific towards him, at least in the english translation of the text, he simply refers to him by title)
He neither uses any title or honorific when talking to angela, despite keeping a formal/respectful attitude, i honestly believe that he is genuinely formal and respectful but... you know, that's not the beginning and end of who he is.
Tumblr media
Of course, this isn't a major point, but I think it's worth mentioning considering how important honorifics can be to establish the speaker's relationship with the people a message is directed to, they can be used to distance oneself from others. So in a way it could be seen as him putting himself at an "equal" position relative to stephan and tamaki, as opposed to trying to assert that he's their superior (at least in the context of the mission they were working in, since his title is merely fixer, not operator, president, director or anything implying some form of leadership on his end).
Another extremely important detail is his inmediate first reaction once argalia shows up and ruins their plan is... not coming up with a plan b, not trying to fight him in any way, not doing anything about trying to save what little money they can, he quite literally tells stephan "forget about money, we need to survive now".
Tumblr media
His initial reaction is directly just yelling at his team to run away, and this stays consistent once he:
Tumblr media
Notices that stephan and tamaki are beginning to argue over the future of their mission and how much money they lost.
Tumblr media
Realizes that they can't outrun argalia as long as they're wielding their heavy (and again, extremely expensive) equipment. This says a lot as it shows that he cares enough for the people under his care to let the office go bankrupt if it means they can live.
Needless to say, stephan and tamaki refuse to do so and while he clearly isn't precisely happy about the inevitable confrontation with argalia, he doesn't argue about this, he does understand their concern about money, he's not like the other authority figures who will ignore their underlings' concerns at best and ditch them once they outlive their usefulness at worst (at least, that's what i imagine he thinks as he makes these choices).
Not to mention, once they are in a, if only slightly, safer situation in the library, his inmediate response is trying to comfort stephan and tamaki, things dont look good but theyre at least alive, for now.
Tumblr media
And there's this line which... doesn't seem to fit at first glance with the idea of him wanting his office to survive at all costs... right?
Tumblr media
That is until you realize that he says that line during yet another argument between stephan and tamaki, as an attempt to get them both to calm down, this could also fit in with him trying to keep or restore the cynical, stoic and serious act, but then again we get to see his more emotional and sincere side once he:
Tumblr media
Gets killed, quite literally saying that he didn't want to die yet, at least to me this line alone is enough to pretty much confirm that he didn't really mean it when saying that trying to delay their deaths was pointless, but if you need more, he also acts against that same line when he...
Tumblr media
Sees his allies die, and inmediately starts freaking out.
Tumblr media
Wins the reception, in which case his inmediate first concern is, again, not money, lost ammunition or anything, but rather if stephan and tamaki are okay and if they will be safe once they return.
I don't think that line was him fully lying though, it does say something about him that makes enough sense to me and fits with the rest of the characterization: that his cynism runs much, much deeper than stephan's.
Tl;dr he is extremely caring and emotional deep inside, and even though he tries to suppress that side of himself it always finds a way to show itself, I feel like in other contexts this makes him prone to emotional outbursts and generally make him an unpleasant person to be around... save for people who are already familiar with his personality quirks and the fact that he is Like That.
2.3- Resentment
Of course, this dissonance between the person he tries to pretend to be to fit in/keep his job and the person he actually is made him grow a pretty strong disliking of... well, everything he considers related to the fact that he has to act like that to get enough money to feed the people in his office.
I also feel like he feels genuine guilt over the fact that his job is essentially just glorified murder, I have no base for this other than the more detached way in which he refers to the church of gears, it almost feels like hes forcing himself to not care because its them or him and his office, and that he has genuine self-hating tendencies because of it (which he also uses his stoic act to hide, he doesn't want to worry his office and become a burden to them, after all), in a way he may be trying to overcompensate by being nice to his office to feel like there's people he can help/protect.
But this hatred towards himself also manifests in the form of hatred towards anything he can blame over him being the way he is and working the job he has.
As I said before, I don't think liwei likes colors, or most high grade fixers for that matter, you may also extend this to figures of authority, influential organizations or even the city's society as a whole (and honestly? i do personally, i don't think he's actually capable of forming any particularly healthy bond with people outside his office because of this, and even then saying that the relationships he has with his office are healthy is... generous to put it softly, this is not to say that he secretly hates the other people in the office, but rather that he fears that they may secretly hate him, because he's the highest graded member of the office, he hates people sitting above him so it only makes sense that people below him hate him for being above them, right?), and of course I'm not saying this because I'm projecting or because I think it's cool and edgy and sad but I actually have bases for this from what I can see in the game.
The first example of him not trusting high grade fixers AND influential organizations being one of the very first things he says when being introduced: that having an important person, from an important organization, belonging to an important section of said organization, approach him and give him a request was shady as fuck.
Tumblr media
And he turned out to be right, as Yujin was planning for him and his office to get sent to the library and die there so she could read their books and find some passage saying shit like "well we were found by the blue fucking reverb and our only choice was to come here and die even though we were royally fucked either way life sucks see you all in hell my final message 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕" so she could use that on her favor.
In this topic too, I'm personally firmly opposed to the idea of full-stop office being affiliated to the shi association and this is the hill i'm willing to die on, but I digress.
We see this same resentment on an even deeper level in his keypage where he talks about colors (and we can assume this view extends to other high graded fixers, and to a lesser extent to the hana association), he doesn't sound like he wants to become a color, he doesn't sound like he even likes the concept of colors being a thing that exists in the first place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The most important lines from these fragments to me being the following:
"A color is the dream [...] of all fixers who wish for freedom.", freedom is a VERY relevant concept in project moon and ruina makes a very clear point about how nobody is free in the city, roland says it, most plot relevant guests say it, some patron librarians say it too... a huge part of the story is how angela comes to terms to the fact that turning human wont grant her freedom and how she ultimately becomes free by embracing her nature as a machine (so free indeed that the head decides to kick her and the entire library out of the city, not only shes a machine that acts like a human, which is already a major city wide taboo, she made a choice that no human in the city should ever make). Essentially, liwei seems to see colors (and im assuming that by extension high graded fixers) as the ultimate example of an impossible aspirational class (think of these "self made" enterpreurs who received extremely generous financial support from their rich parents to start massive companies as the closest irl equivalent, except that obviously not the same, i will elaborate more on this later).
"They put forward the colors as great and successful people that other fixers will look up to. They dream of earning wealth and fame, and to be free like them one day." Why would he be talking in third person here if he too admired colors, or wanted to be like them, or thought that were free in any way? Also that separation between money and fame (something that colors objectively do have since they can afford exclusive high tech weapons and armor) with freedom (something that is debatable, but liwei seems to assume colors don't have) feels too much like a deliberate choice to further push towards that point of him seeing colors as not only an impossible goal to achieve for the average fixer but also that the ideal of a color as someone who is free is something impossible to achieve even if one were to become a color.
"Colors are assigned by the 'Hana Association'. [...] The title of a color is forcibly given to fixers who qualify essentially. Can a fixer be truly happy with freedom that was forcefully handed to them?" This particular fragment, specially the last sentence, is absolutely key for Liwei's characterization, and the final and most important part of him saying "wait, no, colors aren't free, because nobody is" to me. It is also worth noting that this fragment can be read in multiple ways, all of them are important and accurate for his characterization.
He thinks that the responsability and risks that come with being handed the title of a color are far greater than the prestige that comes with the title, can you really say that someone who cant afford to decline requests due to being contacted by the most important organizations in the city, whose closest friends or family WILL be regularly targetted by rivals either to extort them for money or just try to attack them to the point in which most high graded fixers abandon any personal attachment to others, who will have to see the horrible things that happen in the city in an almost day-to-day basis and will likely have to do even worse things in the name of corporate interests is free? Can you really call it freedom if you can't refuse it? Essentially he is saying "actually every single aspect of being a color is terrible and to make matters worse that life is forced on them after they go through extreme miseries in the hopes for a better life but all they get is more of the same if not even worse, they aren't free and shouldn't be refered to as such."
He thinks that in order to become a color (or any highly graded fixer, really), you must essentially lose yourself, which is to say abandoning all friendships or familiar bonds, only keeping shallow interactions with people, desensitizing themselves to whatever horrifying shit they may have to see, abandon all sense of morality as they never know what their next request will be and "im sorry but i dont do xyz, it does against my personal morals" isnt an argument that will work in a place like the city, this also fits into the whole "actually having a much more chaotic emotional side he's trying his absolute hardest to supress but failing" theme mentioned in point 2.2., someone who is so deeply emotional and whose actions are ultimately defined by what is the most likely to keep the people around him alive is obviously not going to like the idea of keeping his distance to them, or to dispose of people with lower grades than him because they were supposed to be expendables anyway.
I don't remember the exact quote and i dont feel like looking for it but in one of gebura's cutscene she claims that all power in the city only serves to strike those below but never up. You have to climb to get stronger and then you'll only be able to assert dominance (through violence) over people weaker than you are, and she grew to dislike this, as she wanted to protect others but was never able to do so because of how the city was dessigned.
Of course, liwei reached the same conclusion but he took the much simpler but much more unhealthy approach of assuming "well, if things are like that, then that must mean that everyone in a position of power (over me) must be responsible for this".
Of course this also comes with the side effect of him being as caring for the rest of the office as he can because he doesn't want to be like other figures of authority as i mentioned in point 2.2, but thats not to mean that things are all fine in the office, i feel like there are several moments in which he internally curses his position of authority but not quite (bc i don't think he's actually The Big Guy In Charge of the office, really), most obviously the aforementioned moment in which he yells at tamaki and stephan to drop their guns so they can run away and live when they clearly dont want to, i feel like at moments like that he feels like they only do things because he tells them to and they "can't argue" (except that they do, fortunately for him the enviroment in the office is healthy enough for the rest of full stops to not abuse this fact, but the "what if"s are absolutely eating him from the inside). As ironic as it sounds his earnest desire to not be Like The Others is the same thing stopping him from being the perfect and efficient leader he wishes to be, and he probably isn't sure of which thing he values more than the other (it's staying true to his own morals and keeping the people under him safe).
However, there's a key detail here that's worth noting: liwei has a tendency to treat everyone else as equals, sure he is formal and respectful when doing so (pressumably even when talking to people he'd rather never interact with if we assume his conversation with argalia was actually how he is and not him just walking on eggshells to not get killed) but he doesn't bother trying to make a clear distinction of who is above and below him, no matter what their title and rank may be, and for people who are used to being looked up to by everyone else this will be seen this as him insulting them in some way, it may come from a sincere desire of him to come off as insulting while not breaking any (major) social convention in an act of malicious compliance or just the type of person he is, that's up to you to determine.
"But how the hell does any of this relate to dong hwan?" we'll get there right now.
3.- Dong Hwan as a character
This is kinda... the hardest point to talk about, because sure I can yap all I want about him but... it's hard to without going "Source: I made it up" too much.
So, looking at his combat sprites you may notice one thing: he is unbelievably hot for real what the hell he has an incredibly smug aura, most people who care about him to some extent i've seen tend to depict him as a very prideful person, and honestly i dont think differently either.
HOWEVER, i feel like despite this he's still a levelheaded guy who can aknowledge his own flaws. On top of that, i think he's a pretty charismatic guy and he's capable of noticing other people's strenghts, and he'll let people know about their own strenghts too.
Also, to contrast with his smug and cheerful exterior, his combat lines depict him as someone very serious when at work, he doesn't even react emotionally to getting killed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His first "on kill" line is also particularly interesting, as it shows that he prefers to work on his own (unlike everyone's favorite monochrome moody boy), which makes sense considering that he comes alone to the library when you fight him, he may belong to a one-man office (which is the closest a fixer can do to be fully independent, as far as we are aware).
His keypage story also fits this more serious and analytical personality but not much of it is particularly noteworthy from a character analysis perspective, it doesn't say much that you couldn't notice from his combat lines anyway.
Another important factor to me and to contrast him to liwei is... okay, this may be the fact that he's a solo fight and he is, pressumably, an independent fixer, so he's not titled as a member of a particular organization, instead his title (for him, his reception, his keypage and his book) is "dong hwan, the grade 1 fixer", which i mean, again, is most likely just so we dont fight this guy with zero context on who he is and what hes even doing in the library in his own is he stupid? but i like to imagine that the in universe explaination is that he has tied his perception of himself and his own self worth to his grade, to the point in which using both his name and grade is what comes naturally to him when introducing himself, since books are essentially physical manifestations of the soul, then it just makes sense then that his book will give both his name and grade the same importance. This may come from a need to compensate for something else and i actually like to imagine that's the case because it adds yet another layer of parallels with liwei (source: trust me).
Another point is... remember that I mentioned how food was a very consistent thing in the full stops' likes and dislikes sections in the artbook? this point is also not relevant but dong hwan is frequently assumed to be the owner of that pub that shows up at that short side story about roland and angelica which i never watched because i Literally Can Not Care about angelica sorry, but, hey, it's a cute detail, i think he should cook for the full stops.
I feel like there's something to be said about dh's red eyes because in pjm when a character has red eyes you know that means one thing: they will be a big deal, but dong hwan, other than looking incredibly fucking cool and carrying me through the snow queen suppression (FUCK THE SNOW QUEEN ALL MY HOMIES HATE SNOW QUEEN) and star of the city tier 1 (thank you dong hwan i love you dong hwan)… he is rather unremarkable on the grand scheme of things, he's a general reception so you don't even need to defeat him to beat the game, and he only serves to give us some insight on who the fuck was the vermillion cross, and even then he does a terrible job at explaining who he was other than "well, he was a guy i guess" and honestly, the relevance of both liwei and dong hwan is ALSO an important factor in these parallels, as with one being the guy who introduces the concept of colors and the other being the guy who introduces one particular color fixer by casually mentioning being friends with him, both feel like characters who would be much more narratively important in any other story, but here they... aren't.
4.- Summarizing Parallels
Aka the part you may want to skip to if you don't care about me analyzing characters with little background info about them.
So, basically a list of personality (and background, i guess) traits they have in common and how they're different:
Both characters are putting some sort of facade, with liwei trying to act serious and stoic so he's taken seriously while dong hwan... i dont think he even knows what the facade he's putting even is, he's been putting an act for so long that his mask became his true self
In both characters' cases, the first impression they give isn't really the kind of person they truly are (in lw's case this is a deliberate choice and in dh's case i assume that's just the type of person he is), HOWEVER, while liwei acts serious and analytical (and to some extent he is), his true self is far more emotional and prone to form deep bonds with people, while dong hwan has a more passionate, smug and cheerful external attitude but he's much more serious and levelheaded deep down
Both characters have different, conflicting views about their grades, however these differences ultimately lead to both of them being able to treat each other as equals, or as close to that as possible in the city, i feel like liwei can see dong hwan as someone of worth so to speak for reasons unrelated to his grade, while dong hwan does see liwei as a good person (well, good is a subjective term specially in a place like the city) and far better at teamwork than most people in the city, in a way both value something in the other that the other never stopped to consider "hey this is actually a good thing i have"
Both characters are (pressumably?) trying to compensate over something, with liwei putting his professional and formal act to compensate for his sentimental self while dong hwan puts a strong emphasis on his high grade for... who knows, really, i just like this parallel being there because i think it adds a lot
Both have problems forming relationships, with liwei being a generally unpleasant person but being capable of forming deep, meaningful relationships with the people capable of seeing through it, while dong hwan is a charismatic guy liked by almost everyone he's met, but whose relationships tend to be shallow
Not really a personality thing but both characters have a thing for being remarkably unremarkable guys, dong hwan is obviously forgotten by most ruina playes because he's a general reception and the biggest impression liwei leaves in most players is "OH SHIT HE HAS A GUN", even though both are pretty intentionally dessigned with the intention of making them look cool however ive very rarely come across full stop or liwei fans (by which i mean people who like them particularly instead of "actually the entire pjm cast is cool and that includes them) and dong hwan fans are.... yeah, i think ive met like, 4 of them at most (thanks guys i owe you my life)
Something about their combat styles including their passives, liwei's only visible passive is called Concentration and gives him extra strenght for the first turn of a fight, after which he relies in the fact that his attacks weaken the enemy, so he comes off as the sort of guy who prefers to keep his distance and figure out the opponent's weak spot(s) (something he canonically is good at doing) to keep an upper hand at combat, however despite this he's still lacking in both strenght and technique, being only a grade 4 (which i mean let's be real the grades go from 9 to 1 and i feel like a majority of fixers are in the lower grades so he's still pretty much above average but he isnt doing all the cool shit you see the stronger characters do, because that's not the kind of character he is). On the other hand dong hwan's passives have much more cooler sounding names (Fervor, Carver of Scars, Toughness...), all of them focused on either inflicting bleed (status ailment that gradually makes the opponent lose hp)/buffing him against enemies with bleed or buffing him as he gains emotion levels, and his focus is just inflicting bleed like crazy, as well as delivering harder blows against people with bleed, prioritizing raw damage over strategy (but likely being able to figure out an opponent's weaknesses as well, brute strenght alone are most likely not enough to get you far in a world where the powerful people are INSANELY strong bc physical enhancements are commonplace)
I feel like in a way both admire each other, liwei admires dong hwan's capacity to keep a cool head at all times when at work and not letting his feelings have too much weight over his desicions, but dong hwan admires how honest liwei is about himself as well as his capacity to work in a team taking in consideration what will be best for the team as a whole even if it's perjudicial for him in particular.
In Conclusion
Your honor, two of them

hiii!
sorry to bother but I'm planning to binge watch nomads tales and audios channel but I don't know in what order I should (especially since I started the knight one and everyone in the comments were saying how the tie up with the other playlists)
I've already watched Mitch nArthur's audios
so ,what I'm asking is a (canon?) order to listen to them
thanks<3
Hello!
So. Nomad has a lot of side stories that may or may not attach to one another. Mitch is definitely mostly in his own world (same world as The Dragon and the Doctor tho). Arthur’s probably in his own world.
But my biggest issue with Nomad is that the man doesn’t organize worth a damn. Like I would love to listen to his Villain series but it’s not in a playlist and YT cuts off the titles so I can’t see where it starts. Even Treyvalion (a major character) doesn’t have a playlist. So it’s hard to start
Nomad’s main channel draw, though, the Frosthaven series, thankfully has playlists for the four biggest players.
Definitely start with Caleb. (The Werewolf Saga) That’s where the series started and that’s where most of the worldbuilding and exposition is. Also Caleb is just great in general.
I would say after that you can choose either Connor (The Dullahan’s Chronicle) or Chester (Were-Chester-Wolf Gaming) if you love the idea of a Gen Z werewolf streamer (also real talk Chester is absolutely hilarious. Connor is too).
Whichever one you choose, do the other one after that.
Then go for Deacon (The Vampire’s Waltz). He’s great too. I just think the others draw in the attention more
Then I’d say just search “Nomad’s Tales Treyvalion” because Trey doesn’t have a playlist but he’s still important and Nomad is good at putting the names of his characters in the titles so they can be searched. Just find the oldest ones and go up to the most recent. Trey is great. I don’t drink coffee and I learned a lot about it from him 👍 also his listener is dope and relevant to the overarching story
However!!!
When you get to A Moonlit Meeting on all of them (except Chester and Treyvalion since they wasn’t there for that one—theirs are The Search Continues and one of the Latin titled later ones), pause and switch to the beginning of a new character. A Moonlit Meeting is where all the characters and their stories start to heavily converge and having the context of all the characters will help a ton
Once you’ve listened to them all up until that point, you can carry on with the rest of their playlists. The same videos will appear on most of them for the most part from that point. And that’s basically a season finale and the season 2s for each character continue
Hope this helps!

Welp. Okay I watched the last episode of ofmd.
To sum up my thoughts on this season I will say that whilst I enjoyed it and felt the love and passion and respect for its queer fanbase throughout, it didnt hit me the same way the first season did. It felt like maybe a little bit of that season 1 magic was missing and for that I very much blame Max's cutting off 2 episodes and slashing the budget. They had a lot of story they wanted to tell that would have worked so much better in 10 episodes.
I consider the last 3 episodes of season 1 some of the best TV I have seen in my life. From the use of The Chain in ep 8, through the dramatic highs and lows of eps 9 and 10 it was edge-of-your-seat drama and I was in awe at the creators that put it together. But one of the reasons why those 3 eps were so good is because the drama and the pivotal moments were given time to breath.
If those 3 eps were given the same lack of time and budget as season 2, no doubt they all would have been crammed into 1 episode and it would not have had the same impact.
If anything that last episode should have played out across two, with Izzy's death being the half way point and cliffhanger ending leading to a final battle and somewhat happy resolution.
I'm not mad at Izzy's death. If anyone was gonna die, it was gonna be him. His status as Blackbeards enabler and sometimes mentor is over. For Ed to truly be free, I think Izzy always had to go. From a storytelling perspective it makes perfect sense, even though I am sure a lot of fans are absolutely heartbroken about it.
Another casualty of the reduced screentime meant certain original cast members weren't given anywhere near the amount of screentime they should have had. I was expecting a lot more focus on Jim as they were basically the third lead of s1 due to them getting the same backstory as Ed and Stede. All of the crew appear to have had drastically reduced parts which does feel like a big loss to me.
Its funny actually, OFMD S2 suffered from the opposite problem to GOS2. OFMD had too much story to tell in a limited timeframe, GOS2 had very little story to tell outside of the flashbacks and probably too much time given to it. Both shows season 2s suffered from tremendously bad pacing issues.
Also, the one thing the final episode made so obvious to me, is the uncertainty of getting a s3 renewal. It is so clear in the way they tried to wrap things up in a happy bow as best they could, so that if they do get cancelled it leaves fans at least somewhat satisfied. I hate this though. I hate that studios are so fickle and ruthless that creators have to gamble with good quality writing and avoid cliffhangers because of asshole executives who dont actually care about the stories.
Because of the fast pacing, and the fear of cancellation, it felt more like a rush happy ending instead of a part way point in a bigger story, with important character development still to come. Perhaps I need more time to absorb the story in a full rewatch, but im not exactly itching for more at this point, whilst also not really being satisfied with what I got either. I wish we had left Ed and Stede in at least some minor peril, like have them captured and threatened with hanging but at least in a good place romantically, so that we can start speculating about what kind of escape plan they will come up with in season 3. Leaving them in a dilapidated old inn somewhere just felt wrong to me. Instead of ending the season with the stakes sky high (like season 1) it feels like they left season 2 with zero stakes at all, instead of at least a happy medium. At this point we should be turning to fanfiction and wondering what happens next, but instead I'm left thinking "okay then. That was good. What can I watch next?" I don't need to bury myself in fanfic and fanart to feed the hyperfixation this time around, and that is where I feel the most loss.
I'm sure others will have hugely different reactions to me though. Perhaps my expectations were too high? Perhaps my GO obsession just isn't leaving room for OFMD this time? But then again, I think if GOS2 hadn't ended the way it did, I wouldn't still be so obsessed with that either.
Sigh. I dunno. It was a good fun show and will no doubt still be hugely popular with devoted fans, but for me I just can't say it cast the same spell over me as it did last year.

@yumantimatter:
I interpret Paul as closer to a fusion a la Steven Universe ("and the names of [SU character's component characters] may as well be names for my right hand and my left") - the clearer line of influence is of course Homestuck's sprite^2 characters but I think the concepts are similar
I don't have any experience of Steven Universe, and when I think of the Homestuck sprite^2s I mostly think of Erisolsprite and Tavrissprite that were inherently unstable due to conflicting personalities, but I guess there were some that worked out better, like Davepetasprite. But I don't know, when I was reading Homestuck, Davepetasprite always just registered as another iteration of Dave that had some Nepeta characteristics for me, and not someone completely different. Like how Jade was still Jade even after combining with Bec
@longroadstonowhere:
with regards to AIM, it didn't quite hit the same level of using 'google' to mean 'search the internet', but i do feel like people were using 'AIM' to refer to the messages themselves at a certain point (i was just young enough to not be part of that myself, though, so i don't have strong memories of linguistic practices at that time)
@wellhappybirthdaytomeiguess:
@longroadstonowhere speaking as a Gen Xer...that's how I remember it, but that's just me.
Oh, you know, I have some vague memories of that now... but I never actually used AIM all that much, it just wasn't how I communicated with people online back then
Re: Lyctors in the cav bodies: wouldn't work for John, I think. He'd be looking at the cop instead of his best friend G, and the money guy instead of his buddy A...and have to remember too that they didn't know about the RBs coming back when they became Lyctors, so it didn't seem to be an issue.
I mean, John certainly knew about them, but I guess I can kind of see that

What happened to Korean animation???
I can not stress this enough, but what is it with the Korean animation on most Burbank-made cartoons produced after 2015 looking so… slow and stiff???
There're LOTS more on 2s animation timing... and less inbetweening, while characters, props and effects are not as loosely drawn as they used to be before 2016.
Look at this example below of what a modern cartoon looks like when animated in Korea:
Tumblr media
Bernard Williams ain't selling the acting well now; is he?
That episode of Craig of the Creek, "Creature Feature", was made in 2020; it was animated by Rough Draft Korea Co., Ltd. — an animation studio founded by Gregg Vanzo as a cheaper means for quality animation on none other than The Ren & Stimpy Show (Don't believe me? Thad Komorowski will tell you).
He's moving too slow. This shot is all on 2s. His arms move stiffly, and his head bobs up and down just a little bit. It doesn't sell the specific emotions he's expressing as richly as they could... compared to something like classic Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon shows of the past. The overseas animators should listen to the audio track, the recorded dialogue. That's what they did on on Ren & Stimpy!
Now let's go back 10 years before Rough Draft animated that episode of Craig of the Creek... to the Sym-Bionic Titan episode "The Phantom Ninja":
Tumblr media
LOOK HOW LOOSE AND SMOOTH THIS LITTLE BIT OF ANIMATION IS!
This level of Korean animation quality was normal for TV cartoons back in the 2010s.
This one shot has a healthy balance of on 2s animation and on 1s animation.
It's just Ilana Lunis and Octus doing a bit of a... I don't know... a shrug... giving Lance a certain look. Not even talking in this shot, nor is it an action sequence, and this little bit of acting looks far better than Craig of the Creek ever animated in general.
Rough Draft also animates on Spongebob and they're struggling but usually excelling on the animation quality overseas.
This applies to cartoons made and aired before 2016 where post-2105 episode/content are the same quality as most post-2015 cartoons shows these days that're animated in Korea; examples are Uncle Grandpa, Samurai Jack Season 5, The Venture Bros. Season 6 onward, We Bare Bears Season 2 onward, and even later Disney TVA shows as Amphibia Season 3 and Hailey's On It!, though mostly it involves Warner Bros. Discovery-owned properties (Turner ones namely).
May be that Korean animators just need a break. The Phillippines can deliver better animation (a bit roughly but still better than Korea for the most part)! Perhaps the Korean overseas facilities need more money... more direction... more communication (as if we could actually afford that with today's gas prices?)
Why not animate domestically here in America? In Burbank? What about rigging (puppetry in 2 dimensions)?
The future of quality TV/non-theatrical 2D animation may be in the hands of Canada's and Ireland's finest riggers. Mercury Filmworks, Boulder Media, Lighthouse Studios, Snipple Animation, and Jam Filled Entertainment can deliver better animation through rigging than Korea can do for most hand-drawn shows!
That is unless it's the Spongebob Squarepants franchise of course... that and Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? and... pretty much anything animated by Yearim or Yeson (most of which are adult cartoon sitcoms with rather restricted animation so as not to distract from their comedic wordplay, since those shows are more script-driven anyway).
I asked some people about the current condition of Korean animation to see what they think about that. Maxwell Atoms had a good bit to say...
The What's in My Head? podcast interview with Randy Myers largely benefited from a question I suggested about the animation quality differences classic Powerpuff Girls and 2016-2019 PPG episodes.
Ariel Vracin-Harrell tweeted that overseas animators often follow the storyboards "religiously", and tiny little micro-poses in storyboards can result in the animation looking "laggy and odd". (Perhaps those Korean animators view the storyboard animatics as key animation?)
Lauren Faust says that you shouldn't animate you storyboards.
I'll expand more on this post later.
Tweet thread version here.

CONFESSION
I am so tired of Inquisition being shit on for not being like Origins or Dragon Age 2.  First, the characters were never meant to be like Origins or Dragon Age 2s characters. And I’m sorry for saying this but  have little sympathy for that section of the fandom who want/expect every game and all the characters to be exactly  the same.
The companions keep evolving with each game, and DAI has a bunch of extremely complex,  and well-written companions that DO NOT  need you to decide what they really want or to make major decisions in their life, for the most part.  Also every single character have very good reasons for being the way they are and even if you  do not agree with them.  You can see WHY  their experiences shaped them into the person they are. Inquisition also really builds  well on the previous games in the series from a story PoV, and for me it raised more complex questions from a roleplaying perspective about legacy, individuality and personal responsibility, etc. Characters like Cassandra even questioned her faith. I especially appreciate how  lore of Thedas is further explored in this game in a completely different way from Origins and DA2. DAI  basically changes some of the pre-conceptions that were established in the first two games  in a way that's  believable, while also continuing to build on them.
I’m well aware it is NOT a perfect game by any means. There are far, far too many collection-based side quests but the game does have its strengths.  And the developers have stated the next game would not follow that route. And given the fact they have more creative control due to the success of Jedi Fallen Order, I don’t expect to see the same game.  It just makes me sad to see so many dismiss Inquisiition and its really disheartening to see people hate on the characters.
But I also have come to accept a great portion of the same people will end up hating on the next game too because they just enjoy living in misery and expect everyone else to feel the same when they are not catered to.

I see your Erisol and I raise you Eridan slowly growing out of his hemospectrum bias. Now, this isn't gonna be a quick thing, dude has been brought up this way but maybe that little something with Sollux would be what opens his eyes to lowbloods being worth something.
I'm sure part of Eridan's initial drive to pursue kismesitude with Sol is because he sees him as someone worth arguing with. There's gotta be something about him that Eri sees value in and that fills him with hate because how dare this lowblood be worth anything/better than him(a highblood) in any way!!
That sorta thing only gets you so far when you get to know the person. Which can lead pretty well into your point of respect! You can't respect someone whilst believing their blood makes you better than them but you can't pitch someone without believing they're worthy of some form of respect. Especially since Sollux would see that's he not a complete asshole and doesn't have a general hatred of highbloods to blind him to that. Makes me think that he'd be more inclined to act more flush easier than Eri, not on purpose to start with tho, but there's something to be said about his things with 2s. Seems the most likely for vacillation to come more naturally to him.
Now I don't know how you see Eridan but I feel like he's one to feel a lot of inner conflict. Dude falls pitch with a lowblood, starts seeing him for the good qualities he has, starts to flush and fully panics. Goes full "I hate you" because it's not possible to be flush for someone of such caste. Which can easily lead down the road of realising that the only issue he has is with his blood colour and maybe that's a problem he should fix (his isssue with it not Sol's blood colour lol).
After all, I can't see Fef downing anyone for their blood colour and she's a higher blood than him. There's gotta be something to it.
Sorry for ranting in your inbox. Just excited to see someone who thinks of EriSol in such a similar way. Confused quadrant vacillating my beloved :D
Never apologize for ranting in my inbox I love this take ❤️❤️❤️
Most of the time when I think of Erisol I normally imagine Sollux as the one more hesitant on the relationship, but I really love this point of view. I would love to see an Eridan that slowly stars seeing the error in his thinking as he catches feelings for Sollux. Also Eridan is absolutely a character with a lot of internal conflict. I feel like he’s honestly not that bad of a guy, the only thing holding him back is this bias he’s been raised with and if he learns to get over that he’d start being a better person. He’s already friends with other low bloods like Tavros and Karkat, maybe the respect he starts having towards Sollux during their budding relationship is the final thing that causes him to start self reflecting.
Also I love your idea of him realizing he’s going flush and completely panicking and shutting it all down. I love tropes like that and I can imagine a scenario where Sollux is freaking out because he had been interacting with Eridan pretty regularly up until this point and now he’s just completely ignoring him/refusing to engage with him.
Also yes!!!!! Sollux is absolutely someone who vacillates frequently!!! I honestly see this as canon. It would explain his relationship with Aradia, and even Feferi, as though they claim to be matesprits we really only see them doing activities that are mainly for pale relationships (the cuddle pile and feelings jam that the meowrails are doing at the same time SolFef is). I love vacillating Erisol because I feel like 1) Sollux has a hard time staying in one quadrant and 2) as they grow together it’s nearly impossible for them to stay pitched as they become extremely fond of one another.
One last thing your bit towards the end reminded me of the Equius and Aradia relationship lol, but while in Erisol’s case Eridan changes his view on low bloods, Equius actually changed Aradias blood color.
Thank you so much for this response!!! I love to read peoples opinions on stuff I say, and I always enjoy seeing I’m not the only one who thinks about their relationship like this :)))

7, 11, 12, 15 for... Fugitive maybe? 😊
Thank you so much, love <3 I very much enjoy talking about her, indeed.
Let's put it under a 'read more' to hide the pictures I took of Origins. Not quite sure how legal that is, actually. I'm ready to take the images down in any case.
7. the moment of theirs that made me the happiest
See you around, see you around, see you around!!!!
Listen, I just want more fugitive Doctor <3 Always. This promise of hers was so, so sweet <3
Generally, that whole scene was a TREAT. I nearly screamed when she walked into the room (okay, maybe that was the moment that made me happiest, actually) and then her roasting the Master was *chef's kiss* (btw I am very sure that the fugitive Doctor does not know the Master and simply drew from the rest of the hologram's information to pick on him <3). And then we get 2s of Yaz x fugitive Doctor interaction?!
Amazing scene, loved every second of it.
Tumblr media
11. my favorite relationship they have with another character
Hm, that's difficult. I do love Gat x fugitive a lot. I like to think of them having been very close while working for the Division - seldomly of the same opinion, but with huge mutual respect and trust. I imagine they liked to rile each other up with their contrasting views and enjoy the bickering, but have each other's backs when it counted.
And then, as we know, the Doctor and Lee left Gat behind - which in this case I am convinced was deliberate (Karvanista being left behind was an accident, I believe, at least on the Doctor's part). I think it was a difficult decision for the Doctor but in the end she decided, Gat would not be okay with the disappearing act enough for it to work with her involved.
And then Gat is hunting the Doctor. And the Doctor kills her (or does she?) because she has to. Because there are two versions of herself she has to keep safe and Gat killed Lee and she is cornered and she has to. And then she spends her time on the run mourning all of her friends.
Like, there is so much tragedy in that relationship that we can fathom even though we only saw the broken remnants of it.
(This is a little contradicted by Origins btw, where it is implied Gat doesn't think highly of the Doctor, but I like to imagine one of Vinder and Yaz was Gat in that scene in Once, Upon Time.)
And I feel like I also need to mention Taslo, because contrarily to Gat, we do see a lot of their relationship developing. And A) I love mentor/mentee relationships and B) the fugitive Doctor is like the perfect incarnation to have an apprentice??? (she's so much like 12 in vibes, she needs her own Bill Potts) (Also Taslo is a tiny bit Mels!coded so, yeah...) Just, like, look at this:
teaching her valuable life lessons <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
while being slightly condescending <3 (look at her smug face <33)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the GRAB (Ma'am, what are you doing?? are you going to walk her out there backwards?)
Tumblr media
and then the development!!! the handholding!! the softness!! looking out for her mentee!! look at them 😍😍😍 (also the division trauma TM)
Tumblr media
The above two panels are the best thing ever. Together with the weeping angel they are totally worth the comic alone. And the rest is amazing too btw 🥰
12. what i like about the way the fandom portrays them
Hm. I like that we as a fandom generally have a lot of love for the fugitive Doctor and look up to her. I have rarely seen anyone portray her as anything other than the (slightly morally ambiguous, perhaps) hero, the badass, the one who calls the shots. I also do like that we seem to agree on her glasses being perfection <3
I actually also enjoy that people keep mentioning her in the same breath as the war doctor. But I like him a lot and they have some similarities (beyond being the 'extra Doctors'). Also when people do that it tends to be opposed to those who forget about both, so -
Not really the question, but just in case you would like some recs on good fandom portrayals:
Art: 1(this one is by Roz :) ), 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
Fic:
The Cul-de-Sac (the fugitive Doctor arrives late but there is thasmin to tide you over and the wait is so worth it),
picking up a penny with a press-on (I really need to reread it because I barely remember what happens, just that it hurt in a really good way and made me wish Yaz would leave 13 for her in the end of potd before the episode aired),
Softness (Do you like good omens? This one is short and fluffy and bittersweet. Slight Lee slander if I remember correctly),
the wild ones (perfect, favourite fugitiveRiver fic <3 I think I still haven't left a comment here but I keep telling the author how much I love it on tumblr instead 😅),
Gorgeous (not sure whether you like reader inserts but this was written for me and it basically inspired the comic I made for my mum)
And this (puppet stories featuring the Doctor x dhawan!Master and others - like here Karvanista <3 (pure fluff, this is so wholesome, let me tell you - maybe you already know?))
Also Pine coming up with the perfect ship name for fugitive Doctor x Mels
15. what i dont like about the way canon portrayed them
Maybe the fact that she killed Gat? But like, that's because I believe there would be a lot more potential for stories if Gat and/or Lee were still alive. (also I want her not to have lost all her friends but, well, yeah-) I do believe the Doctor might be ready to kill her friend in a situation as extreme, like I explained above. So, like, the portrayal is fine, the decision simply does not please me.
Also, generally, we don't see enough of her. But it's the 13th Doctor's show, so that's fine? Like, I want to see her grieve her friends and meet Karvanista again and fight with Tecteun and talk to the fam and explain why her TARDIS looks like that and that it's the same ship... but I get why there's no time for that.
AND I DON'T LIKE THIS:
Tumblr media
Like, great that she's there. (She better be if you put dt twice but anyway.) But HOW. Jo is TALLER than Jodie. And you couldn't like, put anyone else behind the arm? Or use a 13 who doesn't point the sonic? Why. Who did this? I just want to talk
(also is it me or does Jodie look a little weird here? just - not like Jodie?)
Also - not actually canon but close enough - I hate that she is still The Doctor | Ruth Clayton on ao3. That's not what we call her! That's confusing, because Ruth is a different person! I love you so much ao3, but make two tags for them! - I actually wrote a request about that quite some time ago but nothing has come of it yet. Maybe I'll have to ask again.

Bracket prep!!
Okay, we have 147 individual entries now - and brackets always have a number of participants that is a power of 2 (so, 16, 32, 64, 128), typically divided into four groups. So, a few of the submitted candidates won't make it into the final bracket line-up! But hey, I'm not gonna be the one to make that call; you will be, in an elimination round!
The question is just: how many will be eliminated?
A bracket of 128 is massive; it would require a great many 1-on-1 polls, spaced out over seven rounds - with 64 encounters in the first week alone! But, y'all just love your polls, so maybe that's what you'd prefer! In this case, the number of candidates who won't make it into the bracket line-up is relatively small: 147-128 = 19 candidates would have to be dropped out. For that, I'd create a few larger polls of 10 candidates each, in which only the top scoring 1 or 2 candidates gain their place in the bracket.
Alternately, we can aim for a 64 bracket; the elimination round would be brutal, but afterwards we'd have an easier time of it with the following rounds. I'd similarly create larger polls of 10 candidates each, just a whole lot more of them, and again only the poll-winning candidates will gain a spot in the bracket.
This kind of setup also requires a ranking that determines which of the candidates have a safe spot, and which of them will go into the elimination round. To help answer this, I've come up with a ranking system, in which the submitted characters get assigned a bonus based on the following criteria: (put under a readmore because this is getting long 😅)
sole main character OR lead character in an ensemble show (+2 bonus)
secondary main character OR shared main character in a duo or ensemble cast (+1 bonus)
main antagonist (+1 bonus)
These three bonuses acknowledge that as focal characters, we get to see a lot of their skills and talents; more so than we see of tertiary, recurring, or one-off characters.
I wanted to add another bonus to acknowledge that in canon, some characters are special - have a superpower of some kind, or a long-honed skill or special talent that sets them apart from their peers, so I added this:
superpower/special talent/long-honed skill (+1 bonus)
So for example, Xena would get a +3 bonus for being the main character in Xena Warrior Princess AND for being superpowered in a fight. Same for Buffy - main character and The Slayer! Kathryn Janeway gets a +2 because she's the lead character in Voyager, but no further bonuses for superpowers. Myka Bering gets a +1 for being part of Warehouse 13's main protagonist duo, plus another one for her eidetic memory. Parker gets a +1 for being a shared main character in an ensemble cast, and another one for being the acknowledged best thief in the world. Guinan gets a +1 for her special talent of being able to tell when Q is near and when something is wrong with the timeline, but no other bonuses because she is only a recurring character. I hope this makes sense!
It's a bit wibbly-wobbly, especially for those characters I don't know all that well, where I have to assign these bonuses based on fandom wikis and whatnot. However! In the end, that's really just a crutch for helping me seed the bracket, and not grounds for disqualification, so I don't think it's that huge of a deal. In the end, when voting starts, all of these candidates are in your hands; you still get to vote on the participation of every single character that was submitted!
The one difference that it does make is that characters that reach a 2 or 3 in this fashion are set in the bracket (so far a bit under 60); they won't go into the elimination polls. I'm doing my best to space them out evenly, so that there's an equal number of 2s and 3s in each of the four groups. Within the 2s and 3s, the order is absolutely random. I don't care to rank Buffy higher than Xena or vice versa; that is what the bracket is for! Mainly, this is just to make sure that elimination polls are relatively fair; pitching the 13th doctor against a few recurring characters that have gotten no bonuses at all wouldn't be. That's my reasoning here.
This is about how that would look: rank, name, bonus.
Tumblr media
The open spots would then go to whoever wins the elimination polls - and depending on how big the bracket gets (128 or 64 characters), that's either 2 or 3 spots - or 18 or 19 😅

hi! i had a few random questions about your opinion on things i’ve observed recently in ppl/characters:
1. someone who seems impulsive to others because outsiders aren’t seeing their process, but actually they are calculating internally - such as mapping out a decision and carefully making preparations without telling anyone, then once they act, it seems impulsive and reckless to others - they move quickly and if it involves others, there is some manipulation and an implied sense that no is just not an answer that will be acceptable. their decision may not appear to make sense, but yet no one can talk them out of it because they thought about it so carefully for so long and have their reasons - is this ti and fe, or ni and se?
2. getting into relationships with damaged people despite noticing red flags, with a mixture of finding the possible danger too exciting to resist and also an “i can fix them” mentality is this 7-2 or 2-7 (or neither)? what about being attracted to people like that for the same reasons but being more cautious in actually pursuing the relationship (or not pursuing it at all)?
3. cutting people off because their values are increasingly off putting to you but tolerating those same values in someone else (with the logic that you can’t tolerate the values in general, so for relationships that aren’t as strong it is a dealbreaker, but if a relationship is strong enough you will agree to disagree) - does this indicate any particular function or enneagram type?
thank you again!!
The first question seems like a process of an introverted function ahead of extroverted sensing; evaluating the situation, making a plan, and taking direct action could be ENJ or ISP. Ni could be carefully mapping the future consequences and wanting to arrange things just show, but Ti could also be doing the same things in deciding whether this is a rational action to take. Both types tend to evaluate and then promptly act, and for others who weren’t part of the “inner” process it can seem impulsive, reckless, or premature.
There are many reasons why people get into relationships with problematic people, but it usually stems from a desperate desire for connection, love, and acceptance, and it can be a 2ish need to be needed (he/she needs me to love them, because they are unlovable to others and I won’t be like other people and abandon or avoid them). Thinking you can fix them is very 2. It could be 7-2, Fe, high N, or just a naïve belief that people CAN be fixed by anyone other than themselves (sadly this isn’t the case; all change starts with the person deciding they want it for themselves or for others). Seeking damaged people can also come from a lack of self-esteem and an unconscious desire to be ‘higher’ than – I am not worth the attentions of someone stable, independent, and strong, but if I care for this person and they need me, I feel a little less unwanted, damaged, or problematic, because I am still higher than they are. (This is where the rubber meets the road in the 2 pride – the realization that self-inflation is coming from your desire to help and fix, and that you are infantilizing people in the process.) 7-2 is less inclined to stick with hard things than a 2-7, because 7s want to avoid negativity and harsh things – they want to skip past the hurt and get to the chocolate ice cream. 2s also hate negativity, but they will put themselves through hard things for the sake of other people more, especially if they are 1 winged (super-ego telling them what they ‘should’ do is tough this out and self-sacrifice). Being attracted to people but cautious about involvement with them could be 6, or a strong self-pres instinct (this person feels like a threat to me).
The third one sounds like emotional attachment vs. non-attachment; you tolerate this behavior in someone with whom you are romantically or emotionally involved, but not in strangers. It’s somewhat normal; people compartmentalize and make excuses to stay attached to those they love or care about, for many reasons. But once you detach or if you never attach, there’s no hormone keeping you attached and causing you to overlook someone’s flaws.

ok some random thoughts from the past few days that im not gonna tag with any specific chapter bc fuck knows i dont wanna go back and check the numbers lmao
When nanami dies in front of yuuji, as he is telling him his last words (“yuuji, youve got it from here”) he thinks to himself “no dont say that, it’ll just turn into a curse for him.” I think HE personally meant it metaphorically but its eerily similar to what his grandpa told him before he died (he said something along the lines of “live well help people blablabla… im giving you this curse”). So while non-sorcerers cant turn directly into curses (rather the small amounts of CE they leak out accumulates to become curses, over time and with many people), AND we didn’t see nanami turn into a curse (also bc hes not the type of guy to resent dying, we literallysaw him be bitter but ultimately at peace with the decisions that brought him to his death), its still potentially relevant how now more than one persons “dying wish” has “cursed” yuuji.
Do megumi’s shikigami count as parts of his soul? he didn’t feel the white dog die in the jail so obviously theyre not like a part of him or anything, but if for instance mahito touched idk the dog, would he be able to do idle transfiguration through it? the rship btw a shikigami and its user is still sort of opaque. For instance, geto tried to absorb the worm that toji used to store his weapons but he failed, and in the ch notes gege says its because toji had already established a “master-servant” relationship with it. I dont think that’s through a binding vow necessarily (can a curse without higher intelligence and language even enter a BV?) but still some sort of pact was done, which apparently doesn’t necessarily require CE as toji was able to do it. Then theres for instance yuuta & Rika1. In the fanbook gege says rika is able to see what yuuta sees even if they’re apart, though the opposite is not true (Y cant see what R sees). But still some sort of connection exists there. So would mahito be able to do IT by touching rika? Could he do it to Yaga through one of his cursed dolls? obv this isn’t especially relevant re: mahito bc hes dead lol, but im willing to bet that the minute details of this kind of thing will come up with the sukuna & megumi situation we have on our hands. I cant help but notice that almost every main character has either fought mahito outright or at least met him, with the GLARING exception of megumi, who through various circumstances is never around when mahito shows up. I wonder if thats bc gege is hiding something about the way 10s interacts with the soul. Hmmmm.
One thing thats been puzzling me is that we’re told that when gojo was born the balance of the world was altered bc he was so strong etcetc, so curses started getting much more powerful/higher In level. At the same time though, during the early manga, everytime one of our characters meets someone from the kenjaku squad, or even a finger bearer, they ALWAYS comment on how crazy powerful these curses are and isnt it weird how much stronger curses are these days, like you get the impression that they’re mostly used to dealing with grade 2s and below. So what is the truth???

2D walk cycle
I made this walk cycle by using a reference that I shot of myself walking, I also referred to Richard Williams walk cycle pages in the animator's survival kit just to help me understand how to transfer real world motion to animation. So you'll notice that this walk cycle isn't as energetic as many of the Richard Williams ones and that's how I wanted it, which is why I used the real footage of myself walking
I had my character turnaround in place when drawing each frame, just to make sure that I was matching my style in every frame, this was important for the hands and shoes as they are the easiest to skew
Tumblr media
I made the sketch frames by splitting it up into 3 layers, one for the head, one for the body and one for the legs, this way I could keep all the motion parts separate, which made it easier to fix any errors in the style

Then I had my self for the general idea of the key positions, which was a little hard at some points because my reference footage moves whereas my cycle is on the spot, so I only put the first frame into animate and for the rest I just split up the ley poses in premiere pro and just put them up on a second monitor to look at while drawing the key frame poses.
Tumblr media
started by doing this, didn't animate the body up and down movements because, it's easier to understand and match the proportions when it stays the same each frame. This way I can just add the up and down motion afterwards
Tumblr media
adding in the bounces to give it more motion
Tumblr media
lining what I've done so far, keeping it consistent and adjusting the frames slightly to look more accurate
Tumblr media
then I realised the left arm wasn't visible but it is visible barely in the reference video that I shot, so I animated that too, to draw the hand pose, I just took a photo of my own hand in the same position
Tumblr media
Then I lined the arm

And after adding colour it's complete, I also decided to add a little more detail to the eye where it bounces the same as the body, which makes the motion seem a little more fluid
Tumblr media
The animation was made at 25fps because this is what I've been using in my 3D assets, so I needed to make sure that this will match, I then animated on 2s

Here's a little gif that I made showing all the different stages of animation
