What period do you think is lacking in stories in the new canon? Do you have a top 3 favorite books (either EU or canon)?

I’m a little surprised that the new canon hasn’t done much with the ESB-RotJ interregnum yet. (Some, I think, but very little.) I mean, it’s only one year, but it’s one year when a LOT happens.

Top 3 books:

A New DawnX-Wing: Wraith Squadron (the series, really, I read them all together)

..., uh that’s it right now, my other favorite Star Wars book is currently in the corner because I’m mad at the main character and can’t stand seeing her on the page, even though normally I love the book and have read it a dozen times.

What do you think about the direction they've taken Resistance? Particularly in regards to pacing (like they kinda sped run part of the Stargate Atlantis plot), and the way the First Order and life on the platform is betrayed?

I like it a lot. I think Resistance got kind of a slow start (and while I understand that they wanted to really establish a baseline for normal life on the platform, I’m not sure that the speed they did it at was the best way they could have done), but it picked up a lot in the second half and did some smart, interesting things that I think work well with a lot of the other ST-era ancillary material. There are one or two things I think they could have done differently (maybe unmasking Commander Pyre or Major Vonreg at some point, just to add a bit more of a human aspect?), but in terms of the choices they made in the final episodes I think they were smart, that they make sense, and they’re going to lead to really interesting story-telling in the future. I am baffled by the fact that, like, all the marketing was basically unrelated to what actually happened in and featured on the show. (So much emphasis put towards the Aces, who barely featured.)

I still hesitate a bit over the timing of the actual show – like I said the other day, by setting it when they did one of the casualties is that they lost the ability to use Admiral Holdo in the show, which is something of a shame. And they had to write it around other ancillary media that’s set in the same time period – it overlaps with Cobalt Squadron, for example (though with no effect on either, since Cobalt Squadron is pretty standalone) – which is something that Star Wars has been struggling with a lot lately. But I think that’s one of those things that’s going to be dependent on what they do in S2.

8: Talk about the thing you are most proud of.

you know shit’s rough and life is hard but i’m living my most genuine life right now. i’m doing so much better than i was 2 and 3 years ago. i’m not self harming, i’m not constantly fighting suicidal thoughts. i’m eating almost regularly, i’m enjoying things, i’m (trying) to create and do the things that make me happy, i’m at a job i love and find fulfilling. i’m recovering, and while it’s still hard and i’m not thriving yet, i’m so much closer than i was before, and i’m really thankful to the people who’ve helped me get here, and i’m proud of myself for making it

skipping 11 just because i don’t really remember good dreams

i’m not sure if anything is going to top the memory of all of us on a beach in oregon. the trip was stressful at times, but at that moment, on the beach, i don’t think i’ve ever felt so at home before then.

32: Talk about a place you remember from your childhood.

i lived in my grandmother’s house for most of my early childhood that i can remember. it was an old 2 story farm house, big yard with a lilac bush out back, and a clothes line i used to enjoy running through towels and sheets on. across the street was the school, and if you cut through the field out back you could get to the park next to the swimming pool. the driveway had these really sparkly white rocks that were probably some kind of quartz but i was 5 so they were basically magic to me. she had tiger lilies growing next to the stoop. there were no less than 8 feral cats that just lived in the garage and around the sheds and i loved every single one of them even if they didn’t like me. the living room had a water stain on the ceiling shaped exactly like big bird. to get to the room i shared with my little brother and our older cousin you had to walk through my sister’s room, which was just the space at the top of the stairs. my grandma had a scary unfinished cellar that i think i saw once and probably cried about.

my grandma moved out of the house after my grandpa died and my cousin who was living with her finished high school. a few years back my brother and i sort of broke in just to look at the old place. the water stain was still there, and some old stuff and furniture was around, and the space on the wall where my grandma’s clock that looked like a wristwatch had been was still faded, but i don’t know whatever happened to the pokemon poster i hung up over where the bed i shared with my brother was. there’s still a colony of feral cats living in the garage and sheds, but my cousin’s old gaming and weed hangout no longer looks like a cozy stoner clubhouse. the driveway’s grown over, and if the house is still standing today i’d be surprised.

39: Talk about things you wish you’d known earlier.

i wish i knew that 2lbs of dry rice is NOT 2lbs of cooked rice. i wish i knew my gender earlier. i wish i’d known how bad school of mines was about to kick my ass. i wish i’d started reading homestuck when it started. i wish i’d known how much i enjoy emo trash music when emo trash music was at its peak.
