Where do I start!?

I’ve been absolutely loving my time at Screen Gems. A typical day for my usually involves setting up equipment for testing purposes, cataloguing and checking inventory, repairs, and lighting workshops!

As someone who was not super familiar with all the equipment on set- I did not have much confidence with navigating set equipment. NOW, thanks to the awesome folks at Screen Gems, I am very familiar with ALL of the equipment we work with, which has helped me operate more efficiently in my production efforts.

I’d say my favorite thing was getting to set up an S360-C SkyPanel, and getting to check out all of the settings and capabilities.

Another favorite moment of mine was learning about dimmers and power distribution- we had to test out RatPacs, and we had a really efficient system going and it was fun work.

Before this experience, I never imagined myself in lighting and grip, as I have a main focus as a producer. However, if presented the opportunity, I would love to continue my work in lighting and grip!

The people I work for are very kind and informative, and never turn down an opportunity to show me something new. When I first walked into the warehouse, I was honestly a bit intimidated by all of the equipment! But now, I walk in with confidence and knowledge about what all of it is and what it does.

Admittedly, there are a few slow days, as the strike has meant that nothing is being made, however, the downtime has provided ample opportunity to learn equipment.

I’m always excited and eager to assist the team in any way I can and I genuinely get so hype for the days I’m scheduled.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the semester!

At that moment I feel really happy but also a deep terror, since my biggest weakness is post-production. And in the area of ​​virtual production, it's vital that you know how to handle programs such as UNREAL ENGINE, Disguise and the entire 3D modeling package and Adobe.

It’s the only medium where I don’t care how low the budget is, as long as there is a cool concept that fits the budget and we get to do something visually creative. I really liked my work together with Director @alexdecampi on this unreleased music video, and am sad it was never released (and I don’t know why) I actually got the gig because Alex had seen some shots of me on social media shooting SCUBA in a pool on the movie TRI, which I’ll feature later. (Though I had an operator on TRI, I operated the underwater work myself) Alex likes to do in-camera effects, so we built a clear plexiglass-glass platform for the illusion of her walking on water. Also we had to do a pickup day for the underwater material, because the pool we had rented had a broken heater and the water temperature was so cold as to be unsafe. We put a few chain motors in the mix for safety and efficiency. Arri skypanel s60’s and 120’s for cyc lights and 2 camera cross keys with the s360 and Hudson spider on the ground for the big softy, key light. Cintennas made it all possible to dial in quick and easy. Nice to be working at home! Another week at Screen Gems has gone by! This week was mostly inventory, though we had a few orders to pull. The week started with sandbag inventory. Overall, it was brutal. Screen Gems has an impossible number of sandbags all in the 20-35 lb range. Above is a time-lapse of Jack and I moving some of the 35 lb sandbags into their bin.

The next day, we pulled a small order consisting of Chroma-Q Space Forces and Blackbird Crank Stands. The Space Forces were fun to program and received an introduction to DMX routing. I definitely plan on learning more in the future. I also had a great time learning how to properly move and set up a Blackbird. One of the stands had a tough crank, so we got to take it apart and add more grease to its gears.

We then moved on to inventory of rags starting with 12x20 solids and moving to 20x20 silks. It's been fun to unfurl these fabrics, check for tears and imperfections while asking about their uses. However, the urge to turn the task into a parachute game is great.

Finally, we took out and flashed some ARRI Skypanels for an order. Here I got to learn that it is best to check an RGBW LED panel by checking each color individually and looking for imperfections in color purity or uneven dimming/brightening. I will be interviewing Lawson Sitterding very soon and I am very excited to pick her brain!
