The Rise of Piracy in Interactive Fiction.

There has been a rise in piracy, and though I have mixed feelings on the matter, I can only speak for myself. Please understand that this is to help support me. If you like my writing and you can afford it, subscribe to one of the tiers! I’d love it if you did, and it really does help!!! But if you can’t, then I understand why you’d pirate. I don’t condone it, but nor do I hate you. I understand. I also used to be in a place where I had no choice but to pirate. But now I can support the things I love! Hopefully, one day you can reach that point as well like I did. If you pirate my patreon links, then do the simple courtesy of participating in my Discord channels or forum, give me bug reports, tell me what you thought of the story! Unfortunately, outside of mine, I don’t really know many stories with this pairing.  I searched for them when I was really into writing them, and most of the fics on FFN (and it was a very paltry collection) were in Spanish.

Modern AU: Painter Theo and Writer Luna

The rising trend of demonizing “old guard” nerds as gatekeeping or pathetically fetishing a canon version of a story or fiction universe is directly correlated to the rise of major media conglomerates noticing that traditional nerdy obsessions* could be exploited by simplifying them into base signifiers and marketing them to a general audience, much to the detriment of the work’s original tone, character, and quality. And people will defend such major corporate marking ploys and pat themselves on the back for it, siding against people who essentially care about stories and settings in favor of those who would treat them as a nebulous or amorphous branded property.

In the classic art vs. market conflict, which was almost always tilted towards the art in journalism and commentary, art is now the cruel tyrant who doesn’t want outsiders playing with their toys. Objecting to this makes you lame. Uncool. Outdated. Off-brand.

If you want a vision of the future of speculative fiction, imagine a Nike boot stamping on Luke Skywalker’s face - bazinga.
