Das war 2023 - jede Woche ein Portrait. Dieses ist zwar erst das 51zigste (dafür ein Selbstportrait ☺️) aber trotzdem das letzte für dieses Jahr. Ich freue mich im 2024 viele weitere Portraits von spannenden, tollen und berührenden Menschen zu machen. Grün ist die Farbe des Friedens und der Hoffnung. Das wünsche ich uns allen für das neue Jahr.

One of my favorite things about a day of fallen night is how the mage being sent to Inys thing was started because of Tunuva's and Esbar's desire to protect their grandchild, which in turn led to Sabran and Ead meeting. Their love was possible thanks to another sapphic couple in another lifetime that's so fucking sweet I'm gonna eat drywall.

the fact that siyu is the sister that becomes the berethnets protector at the end of adofn is actually perfect – they both went through extremely traumatic and unfair situations as teenagers, and neither received so much as an apology for what was done to them. it means so much to me that siyu can be there to help glorian, and i hope that they can eventually become close and that glorian can help siyu in return

their storylines have a lot of parallels, but the biggest one to me is that their daughters will end up following in their footsteps and repeating the same cycle that has hurt them both so much

being a sister of the priory and being a berethnet of course are very different situations, but sabran and lukiri will both grow up in the same places their mothers did, with the same expectations placed upon them

and while i like that siyu was able to leave the priory and hopefully heal elsewhere, that doesn't change the fact that the priory is still the same and that the same things she went through can happen to her daughter

and while glorian is finally free now and her body is hers, her daughter has taken her place as the chain upon the nameless one, and will have to marry and have a child no matter what just like glorian did

the fact that it is siyu to tell the story in this book… while she’s the symbol of the “rot” and unbelief that has taken root in the priory at this time, while it is, in saghul’s words, “a fable to her.” just a story. in believing this, siyu is one of the major examples of the very thing the book warns against: the belief that stories are “just” stories—and, with that, the conflation of “being a story” with unimportance. while nothing could be more untrue! there are few things in this world (or in that of the priory) that are more impactful, more important than stories. stories are what people base their beliefs and behaviour on, their countries and religions and identities. sharing them is a beautiful way to connect with people, with a culture—but they’re also used to justify subjugation, oppression, and colonisation. violence and hatred. and THAT is the main point the series is trying to make.

it grew back

the way that wulf and siyu are so close… the way he holds lukiri… they have no idea that their descendants will, one day, fall in love and bring the truth of Cleolind to Virtudom — save the entire world from the Nameless One. history will remember them, but it will remember their legacy even more
