ART IN NOTES/REBLOGS NOW!!!!
Tgcf/MDZS crossover au where after loosing his core WWX technically counts as dead and is able to cultivate the same way a ghost can, essentially making him a ghost possessing a very compatible body.
He’s not a demonic cultivator, he’s just a ghost.
Additionally, the burial mounds are actually the semi-active “remains” of mount tonglu, so when he dies there he’s essentially thrown straight into the kiln, and the only reason WWX is able to get out within 8 years is bc he spent 4 years there as a child, and an additional 2 with the Wen remnants.
Accidental Ghost King Acquisition.
WWX spends the next 3 years in Yiling fucking around with his ghost Wens, rescues Wen Ning with help from Wen Qing, helping the small town in Yiling, and generally being the insane genius inventor he always should have been.
He makes silver bells and enchanted ornaments for Yiling’s people deals with rogue ghosts, befriends his shishu Xiao Xingchen, helps spirits move on. Silver Song Guiding Graves becomes a very welcome guardian for Yiling.
Xie Lian, concerned about the supposed new ghost king, is assigned to find it. Thus leads Xie Lian and Hua Cheng meeting Wei Ying.
Eventually, Mo Xuanyu tries to summon the Yiling Patriarch in exchange for his own soul, but.. he just gets Wei Ying hunched over on the ground with noodles coming out of his mouth. He was having dinner with his friends when he got summoned by this twink okay?
He basically becomes Mo Xuanyu’s Bodyguard for the next 9 months cause he sees Xuanyu as pathetic but in like a wet cat sort of way, as he, Lan Zhan, Xuanyu, and a group of 15 year olds get together to solve a murder.

Christmas Fics 2023 (Part 4):
Chaperone Chaos, Mistletoe Madness: A Yule Ball Tale by scullymurphy - M, one-shot - Professors Malfoy and Granger hate each other. They're also chaperoning the Yule Ball, where Erotogenic Mistletoe makes a timely appearance.
Fireplaces and Firewhiskey by potterhead25919 - G, one-shot - no summary
He's A Wonderful Wizard by flowerfem - T, 12 chapters - Draco only wanted something that would help turn Christmas around, something that could make all his problems disappear. But at the last minute he wished he was never born... It's A Wonderful Life retelling from Draco's POV.
The Path Carefully Tread by HeyJude19 - T, one-shot - The nature of families could shift; shaped by time, trauma, arguments, and reconciliations. She saw how Draco warred with that now, how he battled his instinctual, youthful desire to please his father with his resolve to sever ties with someone who had hurt him gravely.
A Christmas Tryst by Bookvamp - E, one-shot - Draco is on house arrest at university, and Hermione has nowhere to go for the holidays after her breakup with Ron, leaving the two of them alone at the university during the Christmas holiday. It could be the perfect opportunity for Draco to get what he wants - Another tryst with Hermione.
Mistletoe, Yes Or No? by potterhead25919 - G, one-shot - no summary
A New Wreath by MarinaJune - G, one-shot - Scorpius joins his dad and Hermione for some (actually, a LOT) of additional Christmas greenery, and notices something more than friendship between the two.
Christmas Comes but Once a Year by Biirdiee_Rose - E, one-shot - “I couldn’t stand another minute of watching every idiot wizard in the room drool over you.” “No one was drooling over me, Cormac hardly counts as he was harassing nearly every witch in the room.” She tries to pull herself forward again. “Not like it would matter anyway since you’ve made it quite clear you’re not interested in talking to me.” “Don’t play me for a fool, Terry fucking Boot keeps trying to touch you.” He hisses. “You’re utterly delusional, not like it matters, I’m not yours to begin with–” The temperature of the room shifts as soon as the words leave her mouth, the silver of his eyes glinting dangerously in the dark. - Hermione's had enough of Draco suddenly deciding to ignore her and decides to pull out the little red dress she knows he can't resist. It succeeds in getting the attention of a few other wizards as well, much to Draco's displeasure. It looks like he'll just have to remind her of who she really belongs to.
A Gentleman's Guide to Courtship and Caregiving by ChaosAndCrumpets - T, one-shot - An accident involving a quidditch bat has Draco Malfoy wishing tragic and irreversible misfortune on Blaise Zabini. But he'll leave St Mungo's with far more than just a healed nose; a newly acquired Godmother, an affinity for mince pies, and an inconvenient attraction to a certain Healer, to name just three.
Christmas Karaoke by ravengoldy - E, one-shot - Hermione organises a Christmas karaoke event for her annual Muggle Christmas scheme, where everyone has been given the task to learn a popular Christmas song to perform in pairs - some more enthusiastically than others.
Mistletoe and Holly by RZZMG - T, 5 chapters - Who says romance ends at 40? For an older, more mature Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger, the best is yet to come... It’s never too late to fall in love, especially when mistletoe and holly are involved!
Saint Theodore by LadyUrsa - T, one-shot - Draco is dismayed to learn that if he ever wants to have a shot with Granger, he has to successfully flirt with her. Theo, like the arsehole (and saint) of a best friend he is, intervenes to help the two idiots.
Cookies For Christmas by potterhead25919 - G, one-shot - no summary

Alec kneels in the dirt of the graveyard and bows his head.  Behind him, Jace hisses and steps back, pulling Fray with him.
“What, what’s going on?” Fray asks, interrupting his
“Alec, come on buddy. Not here, not like this.” Jace mutters, something almost worried in his voice, as if he knows that Alec has every right to kneel and pray.
“I pray to the hunter,” Alec vows, because he does not worship Raziel, he worships those who came before, the shadowhunters who died and bled and spilled their blessed gift in defense of the world. “For those who came first, I pray to your bones, to the dirt that claimed your flesh.”
Jace hisses and there is a sound of struggle and muffled voices and then he leaves, far enough that Fray won’t interrupt something this sacred.
Alec digs his fingers into the dirt and feels the sleeping magic of hundreds of deaths and he reaches for it, opening his soul in a way that few are able and willing to do. “I pray to the cold frost, to winter, to the bones of our dead. I offer my service, to death and decay.”
Something moves, far under the earth and Alec reaches deeper, the hard soil parting like sand beneath his grasping hands and something solid and firm pushes up into his waiting grasp.
Alec smiles, a dark and devout smear of violence across his face.
He pulls out a bow made of bone, the bleached whiteness of it gleaming in the light of the moon a soft silver and when he reaches down again, adamas tipped bone arrows fletches with the feathers of lost nephilim offer themselves to him.
Alec bows his head, letting tears fall in gratitude and feeling them freeze on his face as he cuts his lip on an adamas arrowhead and bends, pressing his lips to the now frozen and solid ground.
“I thank the fallen.” He whispers, blood thick on his tongue and his lips coated with grave dirt, “guide me on my way.”
Alec stands, his quiver full and his bow strung with hair from a dead nephilim.  When he reaches Fray and Jace, Isabelle is with them, her face a shade paler under the moonlight and her eyes wide as she watches him.  She doesn’t offer to wipe the blood and dirt from his face, she knows better, and she clenches her jaw, and her hand goes to her wrist, as if she finally realizes how far they’ve pushed him.
Alec saves his prayers for when he needs them, that he feels he needs to now, is a sign that they have overstepped. That Alec doesn’t consider this a simple, under the armory mission. No one will be able to sanction Alec for his actions now, but the same is not true for Izzy and Jace, and he’s drawn a very clear line of how much he’s about to allow.
“What is it made of?” Fray asks, voice too close and she reaches out, as if she’s going to touch the bow and Alec reacts with a move of his hand, snapping her wrist before she can touch it and he grins as she screams.
A sharp, brutal cry that echoes the breaking of her bones.
“Do not.” Is all he says and when she backs up, sniffling and looking at Jace for help and protection, Alec smirks. “You’ve already run her once, Jace. Don’t let me stop you now.”
Jace swallows and nods, because Alec snapping her wrist is far less bad than what the bones of those Alec worships would have done.
For someone who is not in service to them to touch, to covet, to try and take, Fray would have possibly lost her entire hand if not her life.

Word count: 2.7k
CW: swearing, references to abortion
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She’d fallen so hard, so fast. The first time she caught a glimpse of his pale hair, near-silver beneath the kaleidoscopic strobe lights, when she caught a flash of his grin, she was captivated. There was something familiar about that hair, something she couldn’t place. She laughed and spun her way across the floor until she stood beside him–half a turn and they’d be face to face.
He turned.
Aelin still remembered the way Rowan’s face slackened upon seeing her, the way his jaw dropped and his eyes widened, sweeping over her with something so much deeper than brazen appreciation. Despite her tiny little skirt, her skintight gold top, the stiletto heels she could barely keep upright in, the thick layer of makeup, he didn’t see the persona she put on, but the person beneath. He saw her.
Nobody had ever looked at her like that. Like they saw her, and were not afraid.
None of her worthless exes ever had, for damn sure.
“Hi,” he said–well, yelled over the thumping music–his tattooed hand nervously rubbing the back of his neck. “I’m Rowan.”
“Aelin,” she called back, her lips tilting upwards.
That quicksilver grin of his flashed over his face. “Dance with me?” She grinned right back and took his hand, falling effortlessly into his arms.
They lasted all of four songs before Rowan bent his head down to her ear, whispering the question she simultaneously wanted and dreaded. Want to go upstairs?
Yeah, she breathed, ten different ways to quietly slip out of the party rapidly forming in her mind. He linked his fingers through hers and walked her across the floor, weaving through dancing bodies and the thick stench of alcohol and sweat, guiding her up the staircase into fresher air.
She heaved a deep breath. “So much better.”
“Yeah,” he agreed, keeping his fingers laced with hers. A hint of something almost vulnerable– probably just the alcohol, though–flickered across the planes of his face. “Here.” He pushed open a door, standing back to let her walk in first. “This one’s mine.”
“Didn’t know you kept a room at the frat house,” she teased, cracking a joke to cover up the way she could feel herself starting to shake.
He chuckled and closed the door. “I lock up whenever I leave so none of the other guys can dump their shit in my nice clean room.”
Aelin snorted a laugh. “So, a frat guy who’s a clean freak? Who are you, Rowan?”
“Nobody important,” he mumbled. He sat down on the neatly-made bed, a gentle tug on her hand asking her to come sit with him.
She flinched.
He released her hand and held both his hands up, palms out. “Hey.” His voice was soft, wary. “I’m not going to make you do anything, Aelin.” A few seconds of silence passed. “My door’s unlocked; if you need to go, then go. I promise I won’t try anything.” He swallowed thickly. “I…I guess I just thought you might want some space.”
Gradually, Aelin relaxed, remembering to count her breaths like she’d practiced over and over again with her therapist. “I…thanks,” she whispered. Finding her power of movement, she stepped to the bed and sat down a few inches away from Rowan’s side, still keeping a hand’s breadth of distance. “I needed some space, yeah.”
That searching look of his was back on his face. “Aelin?”
“What.”
He exhaled deeply. “Punch me if I’m being an asshole, but–did something happen?”
She twisted the rings on her fingers, a hundred million incoherent thoughts rampaging through her mind. Then, she looked up, properly meeting his gaze for the first time that night. “Before I say anything, Rowan, do you know me?”
His forehead furrowed. “You…no? We just met downstairs, you must know someone else in the frat–probably Fen, he’s friends with everyone.” Confusion clouded his handsome face; his eyes scanned hers, looking for something, anything, any detail that might jog his memory.
She blew out a breath. “Can I use your bathroom really quick?”
“Sure.” He gestured towards the bathroom door. “Help yourself.”
“Thanks.”
Aelin locked the bathroom door behind her, turned on the tap, and gripped the edge of the sink, hands shaking. She lifted her eyes to the mirror, staring into a face that wasn’t hers. The makeup–how clever of her to use her artistic skills to adjust the shape of her face so nobody would really know it was her. She’d thought she could enjoy the frat party, throw back a few drinks and scream-sing along to a few songs and have a fun night.
Until Rowan wrapped his hand around hers, and every emotion she thought she’d shoved away came crashing back.
Reaching for a towel, Aelin shut off the water and patted her face dry, carefully hanging Rowan’s towel back up before turning–slowly–back towards the mirror to face her reflection. Her face now, no longer hiding behind makeup. Gingerly, she opened the bathroom door, half-hoping Rowan would have gone back downstairs since she was taking so long. He was still sitting on the bed, and his head lifted when she opened the door, mild concern on his face as he glanced towards her.
She walked hesitantly across the room, stopped right in front of him, met his gaze head-on.
His eyes widened, jaw slackening as he looked into her face and recognized her. “Aelin,” he whispered. “You were–”
“Yeah.” Her voice was a hollow rasp. “I didn’t think you’d remember–it’s been more than two years, I thought I wouldn’t remember anything about it.”
Cautiously, he offered her his tattooed hand, letting her touch her shaking fingers to his solid, steady ones. “Do you…do you need to say anything?
~
She really thought she loved him. Stupid, childish Aelin.
She was nineteen when she met Chaol Westfall, still a big-eyed freshman amazed at how huge the world of university was. He was a year older, the rising-star sophomore baseball player that half the student body had a crush on, but for some reason he only had eyes for Aelin. She thought she was nobody–sure, she played on the basketball team, but she was only a freshman; she wasn’t getting tons of minutes or anything special. They met in a class, a 150-person psychology lecture at 10 a.m. Aelin sat in the middle of the lecture hall, in the sweet spot where she knew she wouldn’t really be noticed but she still had a good view of the professor. Chaol strolled into class and sat down a couple rows in front of her, and she paid him no attention, thinking he was just another guy. About a month in, they both showed up to a study session with a few other student-athletes from the class and quickly found they had a lot of shared interests.
Their first date had been a few days later. He took her out to dinner at a nicer restaurant, laughed and flirted and wooed her over dinner and dessert, drove her back to her building and kissed her goodnight. She’d gone upstairs to her dorm with a giddy smile on her face, incredibly excited for the potential of a relationship.
Then he took her to one of the baseball team’s parties, and she started to have doubts.
She shoved those silly doubts away, though, drowned them out with laughter and flirting and cheap beer and Chaol’s kisses. She told her apprehension to go fuck itself and wound her fingers into Chaol’s hair, pressed her body closer to his. One of his teammates wolf-whistled at them, earning a dirty gesture from Chaol, who laughed wryly as he took Aelin’s hand and led her through the chaos of the party into a quieter room, locking the door behind them. Don’t need anyone walking in, he chuckled.
When he kissed her again, tongue tangling with hers, his hands drifted to the hem of her dress, sending sparks shooting through her blood. He paused, leaning back enough to find her eyes. Is this okay?
And Aelin nodded, sliding her dress off her shoulders, and kissed him back, closing her eyes, losing herself in his surprisingly gentle touch. It only took a few moments before he was less gentle, before clothes disappeared in a hazy, half-drunk blur, before a condom appeared from gods knew where and he was laying her down, promising he’d make her feel so good. And he did, he made her feel things she’d never felt before, made her feel pleasure like she’d never experienced it. He told her she was beautiful, she was gorgeous, she was stunning.
She really thought he meant it.
The next morning, she woke up in Chaol’s arms. She smiled lazily, sleepily wondering if this could become her life. And for a while, it was her life. For at least a few months, she grew used to tumbling into Chaol’s bed, falling asleep in his arms. She grew used to wearing his jersey, which meant she caught looks from other girls. She grew used to the idea of him as her boyfriend.
Then she passed out during her chemistry lab.
When she came around, her professor and her lab partner and some of her classmates were clustered around her, varying degrees of concern on their faces. She waved them off and sat up, taking her lab partner’s arm for stability. Probably just the chemical fumes, she joked. It’s like I forgot basic lab safety, right?
She got through the rest of the lab before racing back to her dorm, dumping her things, grabbing her car keys, and driving straight to the pharmacy. Once she got back, she locked herself in the bathroom and opened the cardboard box with shaky hands, unfolding the ridiculously large instruction sheet. She almost couldn’t focus because of her nerves, but she steeled herself, followed the instructions, and waited. And waited. Gods, three minutes was an eternity.
The chiming of her phone timer just about gave her a heart attack. She scrambled to turn off the timer, then grabbed the little plastic sticks. She swore she could hear her own heartbeat thundering as she forced herself to look at the tests.
Two blue crosses stared her in the face.
Of course, she told Chaol. Why wouldn’t she? He was the father; he deserved to know. She showed him the tests late that night, sitting by his side. She wrapped her arms around her knees, suddenly reverting back to her little self, terrified of the great big world. He dropped the pregnancy tests with a soft, dull clatter and swore under his breath.
She managed to look over at him, tears pooling in her eyes. “What should we do?”
“I don’t know,” he admitted. “Fuck, I didn’t–we were safe–”
“We were.” Until they weren’t.
He sighed. “We’ll figure it out. I promise.”
She believed him. Stupid, stupid Aelin.
It hadn’t even been twenty-four hours after telling Chaol when Aelin knocked on his door and walked in, like she’d grown used to doing, and stopped short, gasping. The sight of one’s boyfriend shirtless and making out with someone else tended to do that.
At her gasp, Chaol jerked away from the…the guy? Well, shit. Good for him? Or something? Aelin didn’t wait for him to try and explain, she just slammed the door and walked away, ignoring his half-assed attempt to call after her. He barely even tried–he didn’t even run after her. He just called her name once or twice, then gave up and went back to his room. And his probable boyfriend.
Aelin expected to feel…something. Instead, she just felt numb. She walked back to her dorm, sat down on her bed, and stared at the wall. She didn’t know how long passed until voices sounded in the hallway and she snapped back into reality and picked up her phone, pretending like she’d just been casually scrolling through Instagram when her roommate walked in.
The next day–it was a Saturday, she remembered it like it had been yesterday–she got up quietly, made her bed, got dressed in comfortable leggings and an oversized Nirvana t-shirt that had once been her dad’s, picked up her car keys and her purse, and slipped out the door. On autopilot, she drove into town, pulled into the clinic parking lot, locked up her car, walked into the building, and went upstairs. The receptionist at the desk was a sweet-faced, middle-aged lady with graying hair who only asked a few check-in questions before handing Aelin a clipboard with a few forms and telling her where to sign. In moments, she was being escorted into the clinic, a nurse in vibrant purple scrubs at her side. The nurse sat with her through the whole thing, squeezing her hand, and wheeled her into the recovery room, saying something about how someone would come by in half an hour to discharge her.
She remembered exiting the clinic feeling tired, ready to go back to her dorm and have a good long nap. She remembered walking back into the waiting area and suddenly having the need to sit down, a wave of lightheadedness washing over her. She remembered how she all but collapsed onto the floor, waving off the staff who came to check on her. I just need a moment.
She remembered a tattooed hand reaching down to her. Hey. Do you need a lift?
She remembered looking up into pine-green eyes filled with concern. She remembered the sticker on his t-shirt: VOLUNTEER. She took the outstretched hand, let the young man help her to her feet, and took a deep breath, steadying herself. When he asked her again if she needed a lift, she shook her head and started walking. Her legs quivered and buckled, betraying her, and he was right back at her side, gently insisting that he at least get her out to her car.
She was much more stable by the time she got to the parking lot, stable enough to wave at the guy before driving herself back to campus, heading upstairs into her room, curling up on her bed, stuffing her face into her pillow, and releasing a long, stifled scream.
The tears followed immediately after that, bursting uncontrollably from the depths of her being. Aelin tucked herself into a tight little ball, clutched her pillows, and sobbed, her whole body shaking with the force of her tears.
Until now, she’d spent the last two years deliberately forgetting that day had ever happened.
~
She was sobbing by the time she’d finished speaking, slumped onto Rowan’s bedroom floor with her arms wrapped around her knees, overcome by every broken feeling she thought she’d locked away. She didn’t even realize he was kneeling next to her until he said her name, softly at first, then a little stronger. Aelin. Aelin. Aelin. “What?”
He faced her, close enough to touch but not wanting to reach for her lest he frighten her, lest she pull away. “You don’t have to hide yourself from me, Aelin, I promise.”
She sniffled. “How can you say that?”
“Because you deserve to hear it,” he murmured. “It’s true. That asshole–he never deserved you, not for a godsdamn second.”
Despite herself, she managed a teary chuckle. “He never fucking did.” She looked up through a film of tears, finding muted rage clouding Rowan’s face. “Don’t.”
“Don’t what?”
“He–he’s not worth it.” Chaol wasn’t worth it. She’d failed to see that for so long, still clinging to the hope that he’d come back to her, that he would change into someone who cared. He’d left her broken on the floor, left her without a care in the world.
Rowan had started to pick up the broken pieces of her the moment he held out his hand in the clinic.
“Okay.” Rowan’s whisper was gentle. “I…Aelin?” Her brows lifted in question. “Can I–” Words failed, so he just held out his arms. She all but fell into his embrace, clinging to him like a lifeline. Hot salty tears dripped into his shirt, her shoulders shaking as she cried.
When she raised her head, a hint of a smile curled at the corners of her lips. “Hey.”
“Hey.” His tentative smile was everything she needed in that moment.
She’d fallen for him so fast, so hard–like she always did. Like she had with Chaol. And with her handful of high school boyfriends before that. This time, though, it was different.
This time, it was Rowan.
The wooden floorboards creek and croak under the clickety clack of your newly acquired gilded leather boots as you make your way up to the deck, over vast hordes of fortune, past engorged piles of gold and spice, doubloons and silks, navigating mazes of stacked chests brimming with books and boundless scrolls. You tip- toe around your comatose crewmates, satiated by plunder and ransacked stores of rum, to the mast of your ship, and look out onto the horizon.
Heliotrope hues of dusk creep up behind the melting sunset, calming the raging gusts of the sea to caresses of the breeze. Wisps of ghostly silver swirl hazily amongst sporadic speckles of spangling starlight like a stewing soup in the sky, its delicate marbling mirrored on waves that twinkle under the moonlight. Skull and crossbones whip in the wind and the ship rocks lazily as if lulled to sleep by the cradle of the sloping sea. You sigh, contented, and pray to avoid a watery grave for many moons to come.
In sacrosanct meadows on lush green hillside
courtyards of
evergreen and lily white snow, sits
The Jester
holding cards
She waits there with a sheepish grin. Her wild eyes staring from lunacy beyond the grave of his long dead burned out mind.
Nothing
was there
rattling through his skull like a rats cage
set on fire
fleeing rodents wrapped up in disguise of "Ideas"
That thunk himself brilliant and yet
SAID he was humble which meant borrowing his neighbors coat to drape over mud holes waiting for the first fool to partake of the plastic.
The slipknot goat-head wheel turner
could have been but a single shot
transfixed into a photograph hung center in
The Museum Of Cretin.
Oh …shake the haze from the glare. There are no cards to read here, realize now as they are
just four blank mirrors void of a decent worthy expression.
Only an echo from years previous this short track roller coaster is out to lunch.
Permanently imitating chatty Kathy in a make-believe world.
….
Whilst the Thief laughed, merriment began to rise and bloom in iridescent array that "smoke screened eyelids"*
from ever knowing the secret
of unlocking beauty’s door…
When the moon made an appearance from the dusk of a cloud
barren soldiers were fighting in the cosmic dust
of infinite spiral layers
of possibilities. Love was
at the door step
opening gates
so inviting. This is the part of the story
Wise fear to tread…
Lets "talk" about love shall we?
Here, take my hand I will guide you now through the hallways of truth.
Love is always an open door speaking songs of forlorn angels and battle scars of internal injustice. It screams out as though it was not a biological drug life induced
that heart of being…
not just this falsely believing.
I myself am Wrapped up in nothing
short of insanity, sleepless, penny brained, every word:
"Yes" as in "Yes my Love Yes!"
mind babbling beggar... using only first dimensional communication.
A day spent in concrete stoic
Are now failing words
spilled in marbles
at loves door.
No now now baby,
you will never shake
this off.
No not the
real deal.
Your going to change
rid anything left insulting your
soul
your gonna wash your face
and look square
in the eyes. Your gonna smile now
"goddamit"
Smile.
Show me baby what loves all about.
Did you think it was a white picket?
Now.
holy un-roll all the fears your momma and your poppa force fed.
Stop gagging on the stew passed around this old cross for generations
You really think you know what loves all about?
Is it about jealousy
for the testosterone forgiven
from lily white to crimson dilate
clothes from every other sister
as she passed by.
Do you love em honey when every drool felt like nails into the coffin of self esteem.
Love feel safe like the choking flavor of chapstick
and gum
strangle-holding
dignity on a silver plated fork three-prongs that I swear looks just like a bird.
A fuck you
flip
this
switch bird.
a book now …
Like chapter one "first verse same as the first"
where slave driver poet lords bang minds door with words hung across arms
whilst fur is trading in dark caves of fog
Where old gathers together hand and hand to die.
or Bleed
sometimes you take a break to let it bleed.
Love is ruthless a two edged sword
for polarities balances a spinning pirouette effortlessly.
Love has a few freckles
sunspots on oceans of sea green, evergreen in redwood forests
where it flourishes a dream within this dream.
A voice always a little above or below the wave
where a dance-floor joyously
announces
heart & soul
though the train finally came home to stay…
Love walks with
or a step ahead for it is always there
freely
When you finally come home stay
love walked with you all the way
My media this week (1-7 Oct 2023)
Tumblr media
📚 STUFF I READ 📚
🙂 Under Alien Skies: A Sightseer's Guide to the Universe (Phil Plait, author & narrator) - The Bad Astronomer paints pictures of what the sky would look like standing on the surface of other planets, asteroids, etc.
😊 Initiation (Sex Wizards #1) (Alethea Faust) - erotic BDSM fantasy - actually a bit more plot & worldbuilding than I was expecting tbh, entertaining
😞 Miss Aldridge Regrets (Canary Club Mystery #1) (Louise Hare, author; Georgina Campbell, narrator) - This isn't a mystery the MC investigates, it's a mystery that happens TO her. She was tediously passive, seeming really rather naïve & foolish (esp given her age and life experience) and entirely in denial about pretty much everything that happens to her (since she's being actively framed for murder). However, the very short interval chapters from the killer's perspective did hook my interest and left me genuinely curious about the mystery. At about 44% I jumped to the end to see how the mystery resolved. I'm counting it as read since I did read over 50% of it.
😍 A Most Agreeable Murder (Julia Seales, author; Fiona Hampton, narrator) - comical pastiche/parody mashup of: Jane Austen (specifically), regency-set/gothic novels (in general) & Agatha Christie/country house mysteries - funny & entertaining, deftly done. Very Nightmare Abbey vibes in the absolute best way. I enjoyed all the caricature characters but 'overlooked tedious (but secretly a [redacted]) sister' Mary was my fave, absolute gothic queen
💖💖 +94K of shorter fic so shout out to these I really loved 💖💖
I'm dating the least inquisitive man in Ottawa (GlitterCity) - Rachel Reid's Game Changers: Troy Barrett/Harris Drover (but really mostly gen), 4K - cute, really nailed the character voices
Tinder Is the Night (rohkeutta) - MCU: stucky, 6K - hilarious, forever fave [reread]
Stay (fandomfluffandfuck) - MCU: stucky, 31K - silver fox/old guard Dom Steve subbing for newbie Dom Bucky - great character voices, hot af sex!
bitten hand guides best (frankoceansmoonriver) - The Witcher: Geraskier, 33K - lovely little fic with werewolf!Jaskier & witcher Geralt
He just needed to get through tonight. It was manageable. One show, one hour, a handful of songs. Then, they go backstage. Where the reason he's still breathing is waiting for him, probably fast asleep now while latched onto her mother's tit. But just holding her would be enough; just taking in her milky scent and letting her hold his pinky like she usually does in her sleep would be enough to center his world and make everything okay.
He just needed to get through tonight.
In front of that large crowd, too pissed with bottles of champagne and beer to care about the cold that eats into the bones. Why aren't they home? Why aren't any of them home? Was celebrating with family and friends too damn boring for them that they needed to come here and make him dance like a monkey to ring in the new year?
God, Peter hates them!
No, no...
Peter squeezed his eyes shut. He doesn't hate them, he just hates two people. Both whom are long dead and sure as fuck not within that crowd, but still tormenting him from beyond the grave.
"Peter, open your eyes."
He did, and blinked. The first thing he thought was, "Don't look at me like that", when he was greeted with Tarsha's assessing scowl, thick lips pulled into a sort-of thin line as his crew mate held a mascara brush aloft.
"I need to do your lashes," Tarsha said, seated in the director's chair across from Peter.
"Right, sorry," Peter said, leaning in a little closer. Tarsha leaned back in, too, and coated the makeup on Peter's eyelashes.
"Sweetie, I think you need to talk about it."
If it weren't for the chatter of the production team around them, and the clamber and cheer of the audience outside, the air would have fallen silent between them.
"...What do you mean?"
"I mean whatever is eating you up inside." Tarsha worked on the other eye's lashes. As she worked, Peter noted the stenciled snowflake he had put on her left eye, wishing that he had opted for that for himself, too.
"There's nothing eating me up inside."
"You say that, but have you looked at yourself recently?" Tarsha stuck the mascara brush back in its tube and grabbed the palette and angled brush, coating the soft bristles with white and silver blush to dust along Peter's cheekbones. "You're starting to look like before, when you--"
She stopped, her hand pausing it's blush application, before starting again as if not missing a beat.
"When I what?" Peter prodded. But he knew. Smashed glass, gashes on hands. White flashes. When all Tarsha did was sigh, Peter said again, "When I what, Tarsha?"
"I'm just saying that," Tarsha tried, setting the palette back in their bag and looking Petee straight in his eye this time, "we're your friends. We're your family. I know that none of us are Naseem, but--"
Peter patter his knees and started to rise. "Yeah, I'm not gonna--"
"No, wait!" Tarsha grabbed Peter's wrist. When he made no move to fight her off, she gently guided him back down, still holding onto him. "I know it's hard to share what's going on with you, but holding it all in like this isn't going to help you. You can open up to us!"
Peter let his eyes fall to their linked hands.
"You do trust us, don't you?"
His gazed flickered back up, and he knew he was an open book, because he could see in her face, the shock, the sting, the sunken disappointment, that she read every single reply that came to Peter's head.
It's too much. It's too heavy.
You're human. You wouldn't understand.
You wouldn't know the first thing about helping someone beyond repair!
The last time I trusted people with my secret, they saw me as a slut to fix their failed fucking marriage.
And ultimately
No.
"Yeah..." Peter nodded weakly, hoping he sounded convincing. "Yeah, I do."
"Okay," Tarsha said, sounding just as weak, and definitely not convinced. Peter decided that that was not his problem for thr next hour. "Just, uhm, remember that we love you."
"I know."
They were called onstage. Lined up side by side, barely getting warm by the heaters situated in the corners of the erected stage, The Mizfists waited in the dim lighting for their cue. Although Peter stated down his mic to the crowd packed into the square, what he saw was Sadaf, swaddled and warm in Ashira's arms.
The bass came, felt first from the bottom of his feet and sparking every nerve in his body on the way up. He just needed to get through tonight. It was manageable. One show, one hour, a handful of songs.
Peter grabbed the mic off its stand and stepped up, hand raised high in the Stortorget.
He craned his head back, shouting to the whole world that he knew was listening, "What is up, Stockhoooooolm?! Happy fucking New Year!!"
--inspired by @writeblrcafe's "cheesecake“ prompt
I've always desired for the wise man to point his hand, and guide me through the stars. They die and resurrect, time after time, and let their frantic light scatter across the winter skies. But when morning arrives on an aborted sunbeam, tinged with dust, bloodied with the drops from a slaughtered god,
I open my eyes, streaming with scalding tears.
The sky stretches out like a map unfurling, for an empire burning, a kingdom gone. Ashen clouds make their way toward me, lunging, obscuring those who want to face me. I only knew them through their shouts and their silver bullets, shooting at my cold heart.
Yet it has broke before, gushing out blood like flooding rivers, overwhelming the gates of paradise with how acidic it's mutated into. To dissolve a pearl is a coup d'etat against God, who wants nothing more than His children to realize that dying for something is less mature than to master a craft in the shadows.
But who would know me inside a jail cell? Name written in blood, body marked with dark tattoos telling cryptic stories through barbed wire and desecrated verses.
But who would know you when you are hung up? Staring at the sun with glazed eyes, nobody laying lillies at your feet, spitting at your grave when your corpse arrives at the abyss, your name only used to sing drinking songs.
I've worked to avoid the thorns of this world, but I only find myself lost amongst goldenrod and tarnished silver wheat. I smell cologne and feel flower pedals caressing my face while caught in a breeze, but the only rose that I will receive Is that which is placed between my white teeth. --Elda Mengisto
what monster from folklore protects you?
Tumblr media
Succubus/Incubus
Temptation is the sweetest of poisons, my dear. Breath it deep into your lungs and allow yourself to surrender to your desires, if only for the night. The incubus, or it's female counterpart, succubus, is a type of demon that tempts its prey in darkness. Though it typically is, it does not have to be sexual in nature. These demons have an uncanny grasp on manipulation. The mask of a pretty face conceals the horror lying beneath, talons curled, ready to pounce. They coerce their victims with sweet words and hollow promises, lulling them into a false sense of security. They whisper in the prey's ear, subtly guiding their movements like a seasoned puppeteer until the moment arrives to strike. Then they disappear without a trace, leaving behind their broken victims, merely a shell of the person they used to be. You aren't necessarily evil. After all, what is good and evil but simply a construct of the human imagination? You have a way with words and a silver tongue to boot. Perhaps you are an author or a singer. Maybe the subtleties of both verbal and nonverbal communication just come naturally to you. There is no denying this: you are highly intelligent. No, I don't mean in the academic sense. Though that could be true as well. Your intelligence spurs from your guile. It is your wit that connects the incubus/succubus to you. It is intrigued by your mannerisms. It would simply be a shame to see such an interesting human go to waste. Just be careful how you treat others so you don't make unnecessary enemies. You never know when the hunter might become the hunted...
Banshee
"Far, far away something made a single ghostly howl, like a banshee in the dark." -Lucy Christopher The banshee, is a creature from Irish Folklore. Though not inherently malevolent, it is said to be a dark omen. The ghostly cries of a weeping woman drift in the air, warning any unfortunate soul who hears of impending death. Following her like the train of a morbidly beautiful wedding dress, a thick fog envelops her skin as she croons a sorrowful, haunting song which is filled with concern and love for her family. This song can be heard a few days before the death of a family member and in most cases the song can only be heard by the person for whom it is intended. Some even go to argue that it is the banshee's unwitting song which kills the person. You care very strongly about your family and friends. Your loyalty towards those whom you care for is unconditional. You are an excellent and reliable friend, trustworthy enough to bear even the darkest of secrets. Secrets which you would gladly carry to the grave unless of course, they harm your loved ones. You will fight tooth and nail to protect the ones you care for, restraint left abandoned. The banshee admires your reslience and passion. It desires to aid you in protecting those you love and to help you navigate a harsh reality just be warned and keep a close eye on the people you love,Your undying loyalty may just become their undoing...
Untitled Poem # 10595
Well, it has been some time. So I shall summarise the recent events, first, Dr. Vaughan managed to relay a message through the mirrors sooner after I met with Mr. Fires. Clara was giving birth. It was a long, arduous process for all involved, but Clara's sister, the music hall singer, got it worst. That song, patently impossible for a human, and with the power to disperse parabola itself, if only for a moment, and birth the impossible, it burnt her, badly. I had thought she might not recover, but parabola allows for stranger recoveries. It would be some time before the hybrid could leave parabola, so I have spent the rest of the time bringing it food, it has a taste for amber among other things. I have also grown much better as a silverer; amid all of this day to day life I took an interesting series of commissions, which ended in building a palace that may hold hope of curing surface sickness from an unfortunate woman. these new skills became handy just this night. It was like any other recently, working as a silverer, guiding bohemians through parabola, and then, I myself sat down to sleep. It had been relatively calm, and I thought nothing ill would come to visit. I was wrong. At first, I was at a party of tomb colonists, then one of them began unwrapping himself. I saw glints of red, a frowning face, blond hair, Edward. "Beloved, It's been too long." after that, he fished a bell from some pocket, its ringing was like thunder, and the world moved around it. This was not something of Mr. Fires.
He mentioned that he had a new master, one that would let him vex me as much as he wanted. And vex he did, after the confusion cleared up, I found myself somewhere familiar. Everything tasted like grave dirt, darkness surrounded, and walls of pine hugged rather closely. But, love, I am alive, and while Edward seems to think he's in control, I know how to escape. After all, I'm a silverer, this is a dream, my domain. I have a certain seed, one that grows where battles once were. It likes blood, and well, I have a knife here. I ride the monstrous plant to freedom and command it to snare Edward. It even starts to choke him. His air of command turns into cursing, and his cursing turns to pleas for his new master.
Pleas which are answered. He is spirited away, but it cost him greatly.
His fingers ache. It's nothing new. He wonders if it is an occurrence for all young pianists or if he simply has not yet adapted deftness. Cushioning does not stop the edge of the stool from digging into the flesh and marrow beneath his knees -- he's sitting incorrectly. George shuffles to perch uncomfortably on the edge of the stool. His feet can reach the pedals with ease now. There is no room for faults.
Residual notes of Chopin's Nocturne dissipate and his hands are moving again already. Guiding chords into an introduction before the silence can fully settle, pushing every key with reluctant precision. Holding his breath as he holds the notes. He wavers like the strings within when the keys are released again. There are no pages before him; Beethoven's Pathetique is etched into the darkness beneath his eyelids.
Behind him, silver and glass clink. Cutlery scrapes against porcelain plates and he scrunches his nose at the scent of honey-glazed gammon. Somewhere on the table, his plate is untouched. He cannot touch his seat at the dining table until his piano stool cries out from holding his weight for so long. Cannot bring utensils into the warmth of his palm until black and white keys burn from his touch. No one drags their trophies and achievements along with them, after all. They're admired from afar. Even if they are living.
No one is watching him, but eyes of the past bore into his back. Burn through an uncomfortable blazer that is too tight around his wrists and watch to see his soul break apart when he merges with song. Narrowed judgement hidden in the glint of pupils and sharp tongues with too much to say. They keep his posture in check, his head up and eyes straight. Staring at the morbid reflection of someone in the polished, painted wood. He is not the person he should be. Empty stare and blank expression. Formalwear and slicked-back hair that has been brushed into perfect position like a doll. Inanimate, save for gliding fingers.
Is that all he is? Background noise? An unnecessary addition to obnoxious conversation? They are entertainment. Like a circus animal.
Ten bars have never felt so agonizingly slow. Grave. George finds that they loathe Beethoven.
They bleed into the exposition.
Smearing red along white keys until vermillion is dripping onto an expensive fur carpet. They wish it was real. They cannot count the amount of mistakes made on their fingers, but it doesn't matter. Their audience does not know what they are listening to. George could butcher every chord, ignore every modulation. They could slack on the tempo, misread the mordents, weigh on the peddle until it snaps off and no one would bat an eye. Because as long as dainty notes echo throughout the dining room, that is good enough for them. Why does he pour himself into music that people do not care for?
He only knows how to play the first movement. Ten minutes of an hour's worth of song. Yet, seethe as he might, he cannot bring himself to destroy the rest of such an ancient darling sonata. Repetition will have to do.
