hackearney fic exchange ideas
a few people seemed interested in it, so here’s how I’m picturing it playing out! if enough people are willing to sign-up (like >5?) I’ll go through with it and set up things up? everything I’ll list below are just suggestions though & I’m totally open to changing things!
completed works only with a minimum word count of 1000 words (no maximum)
anonymous prompt assignments until final author reveals
2-week sign-up period from around September 19-October 3
assignments out within a week after the sign-up deadline (October 9)
final deadline submissions by December 5 (this gives people about 8 weeks to draft & edit)
author reveals on December 9 or 10
since it’s a ship-specific exchange, I think participant matching will be fairly straightforward! in the sign-ups, you would include at least two different prompts (and you can interpret ‘prompt’ however you’d wish—missing scene, an AU, a dynamic or vibe, but just keep in mind that a super specific prompt might be difficult for your assigned writer to fill). you’d also specify what you absolutely do not want to receive or write (in your offer section for what you’ll write). I think if at least five people sign up for it, I’d be happy to proceed, but obviously I’d love to get more people to participate!

Really upset about seeing people not reblogging my best friend's art ngl
#not about anyone here since most of you guys don't share fandoms with them#but I am upset at the people in the tag who just leave a like and move on with their day#I'm biting maiming killing then#also because I remember the fucking pain of nobody engaging with my art on here#and sure I'm drawing for myself and so are they but it still really sucks when you show people a part of yourself and they reject it#+ I was selling my commissions for $1 and most people didn't even bother signal boosting lol#idk man it's been uears but it still really hurts I don't want my best friend to suffer like that#my self esteem was completely ruined by that whole ordeal and so I will never post art online especially on here#I don't want this for them#(also it made me realise that no I don't have art as a backup in case I'm starving I will starve and that's final)#(meanwhile people will get commissions for $80 but I'm not worth a dollar lol)#(not on them btw it's a me problem)#but anyways I want to strangle pepple who just like art instead of reblogging#especially when they reblog art that is way worse in quality I'm sorry for being mean but my best friend doesn't fucking deserve this

Calling All Catholics!
Weird thing for a Jew to post I know I know but hear me out here.
I would like to hear from Catholics (current and ex/raised),
what do you feel separates your religion from others (both other sects of Christianity and other religions as a whole? what feels unique or specific to you/your culture/your beliefs/your church? this can be theological beliefs, practices, or even aesthetics
what things feel "inherently Catholic" or "Catholic coded" to you?
if you don't mind, would you also include what subset of Catholicism you are/were raised in (Roman, Byzantine, Irish, Opus Dei, etc)?
As you may have guessed, this is for research, and I personally only have experience with Roman Catholicism (and limited experience at that, more cultural than truly religious). I would love to hear from a larger subset of people. My family is extremely Italian Catholic but that's just one very specific version, and I don't have much/any experience with any others. I'm curious to see what the common ground is.

My art summary for the year of 2023!
I definitely felt my art level up this year after that March fanart. Found an ink brush to line with for that piece and it made my art look a lot cleaner and bolder so I started using it more. Admittedly, it takes a lot of creative energy for me since it's an extra step in my process but I think the end result feels worth it. 😅 Funny that it's always the personal pieces that inspire me the most to grow somehow (but not unsurprising of course.)
I think I am leaning overall happy with my progress this year. I am very pleased with my professional/commission works but I won't lie, I had a LOT going on financially where I could not step away to really draw for myself. I am glad my commission work has more appeal but it definitely came at a detriment to my personal relationship with my art. I have more commission works in my folders than I do personal pieces which is depressing to me lol but it is what it is!
With that in mind, I am so extremely grateful to everyone who has been so supportive of me this year. To everyone who left nice comments and reblogged my art, enjoyed my ocs, signal boosted my commission posts especially when times were tough for me, etc. It means the world to me. And I want to thank my commissioners especially who have been absolutely wonderful people to work with. I had some amazing prompts and characters, got to expand my portfolio and offer new types of commissions (reference sheets and couple commissions!), and even had opportunities to try new things I never drew before! I even made new pals/mutuals drawing from new commissioners which brings me joy 🥰!
I hope going into 2024 I can focus a bit more inward towards my personal art. I don't have any real art goals, I think. I just want time and energy back to draw all my little ocs, all the ideas and doodles in my head that I was too exhausted to do in 2023. Touch 2022 backlogs I hoped I could get to in 2023 but couldn't in 2024. I'll still be taking on commissions throughout the year but I hope I can find some balance in my art journey in 2024. & maybe a potential art rebranding of my handle?

Its November fucking first, Halloween is over, the ground is covered in snow and I've been rehearsing for the christmas show for a month so there will no longer be any stopping me
Ok so best laid plans of mice and men yadda yadda I did not in fact complete whumptober in time, but fear not, I'm still filling all the requests, I've got a lot written, just be patient and it'll all come hopefully by the end of November.
Related to that, I promised that since whumptober was to be all batman related, I'd run something with similar rules for all the non-batman fandoms I'm in when I had time to refamiliarize with those source materials. Originally I said December, with Winter Whumpterland in mind, but as much as I love everyone's ideas, I need to return to my own creative roots for a while after this batch, so instead I'm looking at taking those requests for either Januwhump or Trop-A-Thon (run by amonthofwhump), based on my school schedule. Januwhump would have 15 days of prompts + Alt, Trop-A-Thon is one week with 4 optional prompts per day. If y'all want something more like whumptober, 30 days with a theme and 3 options per day, you'll have to wait for June of Doom. Please drop me a line here or on AYW 31 to say which option you'd like best
Between now and whenever that is however comes my favorite holiday (like literally 10% of my fics are christmas themed... oops) along with HOLIDAY BREAK FROM SCHOOL WHICH MEANS WRITING TIME! Now I usually dabble in some amount of Winter Whumpterland bc I can't help myself when it comes to hurting the batboys it seems, BUT.
Last year (and the year before, only I chickened out lol) I sort of tried to make my own start up event for Christmas called Christmas Countdown Playlist, because music is my favorite thing about my favorite holiday. This time I wanted to reach out (since I... know people? Am tumblring?) And ask whether anyone would be interested in me making an annual Thing of this event. The gist would be

Thursday Thoughts: On fandom and a sense of belonging, pt. 2
second part posted on a Friday lol
A few additions to yesterday's Thursday Thoughts, especially since that post seems to have resonated with a lot of people (btw, thanks @ao3commentoftheday for both your "overthinking" that inspired my original post and the signal boost!) — and a lot of people added some really important perspectives that I wanted to consolidate here.

On validation:
First things first, some clarification on my terminology: When I use the term "validation," I understand that word sometimes can be misconstrued as praise, fame, widespread recognition, etc. — especially on the Internet and in fandom. To clarify: when I say that people want to be validated, I specifically mean that they want to be affirmed and recognized as worthwhile. Sometimes, it's a matter of just being seen, full stop. Of being recognized that they exist (because sometimes people enter spaces, online or offline, and their existence isn't even acknowledged — and that is inherently a disheartening and dehumanizing experience. How can it not be?). On that note...
When I say that people seek validation, I definitely do not believe that means seeking validation or recognition at scale. I think, for most people in fandom (including me), validation through one or two readers/viewers who say, "I see that you did this work, and I think it's good and/or I appreciate that you did the work" is more than sufficient. I'm not saying that there aren't individuals in fandom who seek fandom fame or "cult status" — I have seen some and have observed them. I do, however, think those who seek fandom fame are the minority, rather than the majority. Basically, I do not think that, for the most part, artists/creators truly desire high volume of engagement — I just think that, psychologically and neurologically speaking, engagement metrics are the only things our brains can hinge on when we're trying to find authentic emotional and social connections via the zeroes and ones on the Internet. And volume feels like authenticity when we're looking at a screen.

On community:
In the tags, @rowenabean made a really great clarifying point about seeking community: "looking for connection is important and valid; needing it to come from one specific person or place is unhealthy." To which I say: YES ABSOLUTELY 100%. In my initial reflections, I'm definitely not saying that fandom is the only place where people seek connection — instead, I'm saying that people inherently seek connection ANYWHERE they go. This is also where my allusions to "individual responsibilities" come in...
We owe it to ourselves and are ultimately responsible for not only navigating online spaces based on our needs, but also honestly calibrating our expectations within ourselves when we navigate online communities. If we're seeking connection, we must constantly ask ourselves: "What am I actually looking for here?"; "Am I being clear with myself and with others on what I want and/or need?"; and — most importantly — "Am I being honest with myself with the fact that I cannot control others and if/how they have the capacity to connect with me?" Answers to that last question, in particular, get blurred because of the chaos of the Internet and the inability to effectively interpret others' intentions through a screen. I also think it's fair for us to get disappointed when misinterpretations happen in our attempts to build connection online — we're only human, after all. We can and should grieve loss, even if it's "just" a loss of a potential online friendship/connection.
Side note: this is all about healthy boundary setting, and I think that the work by Nedrata Glover Tawwab — including her book, "Set Boundaries, Find Peace" — has some really helpful tips on how to navigate this. She even provides some insights and advice on setting effective boundaries on social media and in online spaces, generally.
But, going back to diversifying the different containers in which you pour pieces of yourself: I fundamentally believe that fandom shouldn't be the only place you find a sense of belonging and that fandom can be one of a multitude of places in which you find authentic connection. I know there are some people who look down on individuals who try to seek authentic connection and a safe space in fandom — and I think that is both a problematic and privileged take. For some people, fandom can sometimes be the only place in which they feel safe enough to share certain parts of themselves. And that is a valid, understandable, and reasonable approach.
Finally, my good fandom + writing friend @onwriting-hrarby made a great point that, more often than not, we internalize the blame when we are unwelcomed because it is easier to see what's wrong within us instead of looking at the way in which the community/space we're entering is not set up for us to participate, let alone to belong (this is where my allusion to "systemic changes" comes in).
In her own words:
Sometimes we blame ourselves for not having found the community, or still finding the way we feel ourselves comfortable with it, without giving full thought that we are not taught to navigate communities that don’t want us, or neglect us because it is easier not to rebel against them and just feel shame or guilt over it.
When Oedipus gets exiled by Creontes, the choir sings about the great “fall of man”, and we’re introduced a human that couldn’t navigate the community where he was shove in. But we hardly see the same amount of criticism to Creontes, the king, for whom is extremely convenient to have Oedipus exiled.
Forming part of a community implies vulnerability to let this community hurt you or welcome you. There is no sense of belonging without opening yourself to it, and pour your feelings onto it. That’s why it hurts when we are not welcome: it is not only that we feel like we don’t belong but that, ultimately, they are saying “no” to who we are, after bearing ourselves open.

for protecting sanity reasons (OCD) i don’t signal boost donation posts on social media unless it’s someone i know (or a friend of a friend, a group organization, etc) but i do try to donate a few bucks if i can when i see ‘em in hopes of still helping a little and one i sent a few dollars to last month is sending me paypal requests now? i. don’t know how to feel about that.
certainly not gonna fault anyone for using whatever channels they’ve got. & it’s not a large amount (actually it’s a cheeky $13.12 so that’s fun). the requester probably just pinged everyone in their recent history, and i don’t mind donating again i just? idk this feels very weird to me. as is, like i said, i don’t signal boost because it’s a big trigger for OCD (for myself and others) and now i. just. have a couple donation requests sitting directly in my email and my financial apps and i can’t get my mind off it. do i send the money? is it safe to? will this person keep asking me if i don’t? will this person keep asking me if i DO? am i a bad person if i don’t? am i a bad person for being so anxious about this? repeat and ruminate until i’m sick. this has never happened before but it’s opened a new can of guilt worms and now i’ll always be wary of donating via paypal because. cool my info is just there for anyone i donate to to hit up now huh. which i KNOW is what happens with paypal yeah but usually there’s a bit of an honors system lol like don’t look at my government name and i won’t look at yours, take my money and don’t perceive me etc etc

look. @modmad’s webcomic The Property of Hate is… ridiculously good. so good. that is some top tier content and i love it to death. and right now there’s a crowdfunding campaign to get volume three in print, and it is so goddamn close to meeting the goal. volume three contains my favorite chapters, and i’m a collector at heart so i can’t help but want to snag it, so ig this counts as a promo piece? a self-serving promo/signal boost? …is that just fanart? idk.
anyway if you like comics (hi crew) give it a read on the website <-there. i swear the whole concept changed the way i look at art. even if you can’t contribute to the campaign, it’s a super fun series that you can binge for free! gotta love webcomics.
also i’m like 90% sure RGB qualifies as a tumblr sexyman, which is hilarious. so if TV-head guy sparks your fancy, he’s in it a lot. go wild.
this is the longest description i’ve ever done for my art, and it’s legit to promote an inspiration of mine. probably shows how passionate i am about it.

hi babes, first *big fan big fan*. i used to write a bit on here and honestly just got too out of it but your works high key kinda inspired me to get back into it. i've had this idea for a whiskey fic and like started an obnoxiously detailed outline but since i'm not rly in the fic space, i'm hoping to find someone that i could bounce ideas off of. could i ask what you did when you first started? i want to be able to continue to motivate myself, and obviously while external validation is not the most important, it is a part of it lmao. i appreciate you and hope you're enjoying your august, you talented thing, you!
Hi lovely! Thank you for your kind words, I'm seriously blushing so hard and so happy for you that you're getting back into writing! I got a bit nostalgic looking back at my Tumblr journey, but here it goes -
I started off on Tumblr the same way many did - by lurking 😂 Coming from FF.net and a few years away from fic in general, I was amazed by the community I saw. It took me a few months to work up the courage to reblog and comment on the fics that I was silently reading, and I was amazed when writers replied! It was such an adrenaline rush, being part of a community, which I've never experienced before.
When I posted my first fic, a Din oneshot, I didn't have any friends or mutuals. The fic got mostly likes, and I was so happy about it because I used to get so little interaction on FF. Everything changed when I posted Consent. It gained a readership thanks to all my wonderful readers who reblogged it, and I was very fortunate that a couple of established writers very very kindly read and reblogged it.
One thing that I've always done from day one is to respond to every single person who interacts with my fics. It's so important to me that my readers know that I appreciate them so so much. It's through interacting that I met my first friends - both fellow writers and readers - most of whom I'm still friends with today.
So what I'm trying to say, very ineloquently, is that I got started by getting involved in the community, and I still do my best to be as active as I can. I (try to) read fics (sorry time is so tight lol), I reblog fics/art/gifs, I signal boost fics that I don't have time to read, I chat to my friends. Interaction is the bedrock of our community, and especially for creators, it's the way to meet like-minded people. And in building your community, hopefully you'll find people who will become friends who will cheer you on, and you will cheer on.
Having said all that, everyone goes about Tumblr differently, this is just my experience. MU$IC FAIRY: discontinued
TW: stress, a long post, venting
For those of you who read Mu$ic Fairy, I made the difficult decision on Friday to discontinue it. There are several reasons why I made this decision, but I’ll only list the few I am comfortable with sharing:
1. Lack of reader interest

I’m woman enough to admit when something has flopped and Mu$ic Fairy definitely flopped lol. I tried my best, but I don’t think most readers liked where I was taking the story. My numbers declined significantly despite so many requests for a continuation. I gave 3 updates from June to July, within a month exactly and this is how it turned out. This is one of the main reasons the updates stopped coming. I should mention also that absolutely no one has joined the taglist since the original post dropped. So, yeah...
2. Lack of feedback/interaction
As always, my crew of readers did their thing and I am forever grateful for them. They always support no matter if they like the story or not. Signal boosts mean just as much as review reblogs. I got a few feedback/review asks here and there but the numbers just don’t match the form I dropped. Mu$ic Fairy was voted #1 by readers, yet it’s doing worse than the least voted.
3. Lack of motivation
I should state that while I do write for me, I only made Mu$ic Fairy a series because so many people asked for more. So to see my numbers and interactions decline so much it really made me feel insecure about what I was writing. There’s no way I can dish out 15 more chapters(that’s an estimate of what I had planned) with things declining the way they are. With loss of reader interest came loss of author motivation and as I’m reading this update I planned to post next month, I can see the toll this has taken on my writing itself.
Conclusion:
To the people who read this story and leave feedback, I apologize. I tried to keep it going but I have so much more to work on and this series is just holding me back. I keep stressing out over it because I have no idea how to carry on with it.
I will not delete the WIP and outline. Maybe one day I can revive it or make it better. Maybe I’ll move it to ao3 some day... who knows? I really enjoy what I have and I think it’s a beautiful story so I can’t throw it away. But I can’t keep leading myself or you guys on. Thank you for the support you’ve given and the 3 chapters that are up will stay on my blog.💕

Update 2022!
Hello and Happy New Year!
I wanted to update you all that I just got signed on with a publisher! This means that I’m going to need a little extra patience with updates on my fanfics because publishing takes a lot of work and I’m new to it. I will update fanfics when I have time to, so don’t worry. :)
This being said, I want to thank you all so much for supporting me and reading my writing! Without you all I would have never had the courage to post my fanfics online, self-publish myself, or try for a publisher! Because of you all, I conquered my anxiety about posting my writing and my art! You are all amazing and I appreciate you more than you all know! <3
