I still think about Miles watching the Monkeys play 505 from the side of the stage in Dublin Night 2. It's important. It should be present! Him not getting there but rather softly vibing and looking kinda melancholic. And that night meant a lot. A LOT happened. What even was Dublin?

Pro-Palestine Brands That You Can Support!
In the spirit of the BDS Movement and other boycott attempts done across the globe, here is a thread showcasing brands that are pro-Palestine (or at least unaffiliated with Israel as of October 2023).
Tumblr media
Worth noting is that someone on the thread above mentioned that Ben & Jerry's are pro-Palestine. This is partly true as the FOUNDERS of Ben & Jerry's, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield filed a lawsuit against Unilever to stop all sales in Israel. Unfortunately, they lost the case and the brand instead has stopped all sales in Palestine while still being available in Israel.
I have seen a lot of beauty brands being mentioned such as e.l.f, Pat McGrath Labs, Charlotte Tilbury (whose brand ambassador is Bella Hadid, famously known for being pro-Palestine and is half-Palestinian herself), Fenty Beauty, and even Dior (09/11/2023 edit #1: Dior is no longer on this list as they replaced Bella Hadid with an Israeli model, along with Fenty Beauty as Rihanna is also a brand ambassador for Puma and they had released a collaboration with the brand on September) but besides from Huda Beauty and Delhicious I have yet to see any explicit showcase of support from any other major brands so please take any information regarding beauty brands outside of the ones we are boycotting with a grain of salt.
You can also help by ordering Krispy Kreme (side note: this excites me because I love Krispy Kreme) from this link as it is for a fundraiser by students at the UCLA. Krispy Kreme may not be directly involved, but it is still good to know that this is a viable option. (09/11/2023 edit #2: corrected some missing info)
Here is also a list of ten Palestinian-owned brands that you can support.
May I also add, if you live in a country that is for the most part if not 100% politically supportive of the Palestinian cause like Ireland, Indonesia (where I live), Malaysia, etc., chances are your local brands are pro-Palestine, at least in spirit, so you can opt for them instead. If you also know any local businesses owned by Palestinians in your area, support them as well!
That is all for now, may your watermelons taste fresh and sweet.

Situated on a dramatic limestone cliff in the Golden Vale, the Rock of Cashel is a breathtaking symbol of Ireland's medieval era, boasting an unparalleled collection of historical sites. Here, you'll find everything from an ancient round tower and a towering high cross to a Romanesque chapel, a majestic Gothic cathedral, an abbey, the Hall of the Vicars Choral, and a 15th-century Tower House — easily the most impressive set of medieval structures you can find in Ireland.
The Rock of Cashel has a rich history as the stronghold for the kings of Munster, adding layers of myth and legend to its already fascinating story. It's believed that St. Patrick made his way here to convert King Aenghus to Christianity, marking a defining moment in Ireland's spiritual history. Moreover, it was on this very ground that Brian Boru was declared High King in 978, highlighting Cashel's significance as a political powerhouse.
In 1101, the Rock underwent a significant transformation when it was handed over to the church, quickly becoming a key religious center in Ireland. Among its surviving structures, Cormac’s Chapel is particularly noteworthy, home to the only Romanesque frescoes left in Ireland, showcasing the deep historical and cultural impact of this site.

The fact that Derry Girls did have the adults reacting sadly to the violence and death facing Northern Ireland while showcasing the girls out their living their lives and trying to figure themselves out as the main plot and the violence as a distant secondary plot, showcasing just how young the girls are and how you still have to live through difficult times, without it being overhanded or moralizing?  Absolutely amazing.

We Want to Be Caitríona Balfe Reading Poetry on the Beach Right Now
The Outlander actress recites W. B. Yeats in a short film by photographer and director James Houston.
In a new video, Caitríona Balfe is spending her day the way we'd like to be spending our time social distancing: on the beach, alone, reading poetry. The footage of the Outlander star was filmed back in February, months before the concept of quarantines and lockdowns had even crossed our minds, but now, the clip of Balfe in solitude is even more relevant.
The short film was shot by photographer and director James Houston—an old friend and frequent collaborator of Balfe's—in L.A. In it, the actress runs barefoot on the sand, laughing with the wind blowing in her hair.
"Shooting Caitríona is always such a wonderful and rewarding experience," Houston tells BAZAAR.com. "She is a dear friend and a true natural beauty. Even though her star has risen over recent years as a respected actress, she has remained the same grounded and humble girl I met years ago. I loved this shoot of her because it showcases her timeless beauty. I chose to take her to the ocean with minimal styling, hair, and makeup to capture an intimate, raw portrait of her."
In the background, Balfe narrates the poem "He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven" by W. B. Yeats, which was a collaborative choice made by both the actress and director. "After I directed this piece for Caitríona, I was thinking about what to put behind the visuals," Houston explains. "I know Caitríona is well read and loves poetry, so rather than just use a music track, I asked her to send me a few of her favorite poems. I chose W. B. Yeats as it just felt right for Caitríona and the visuals. After recording her reading the poem (which only took two takes), we added the sounds of the ocean and birds. I really love the result."
Watch the full video above, and read Balfe's interview on last night's Outlander Season 5 finale, featuring more photographs from Houston below.

i actually would love sweden to win after they didn't last year when in my opinion they deserved too, tattoo is an amazing song and i love the staging she had for it at melofest.
Sure. It’s not that Tattoo isn’t a great song or that the staging isn’t impressive and of course you want your favorites to win. While I’m not a huge fan of the live performance, it does look like Eurovision winner. I really enjoy the studio version of Tattoo, it’s powerful and catchy and has nice lyrics, and currently Sweden is sitting on the sixth place in my personal ranking of this year’s entries.
I also get why some of the fans are very eager to see Sweden catch up on Ireland with their number of victories, make Loreen the first woman to win Eurovision twice and get Sweden to host exactly 50 years after their first victory. I'd want that too if I were Swedish.
What bothers me is that I’m just so tired of Sweden doing well year after year. Them being our neighbour and eternal rival only makes it worse. When Finland – with more last places than any country (11), qualification rate of 50%, three times kicked out of the final by juries, average placing of 43 out of 50, and only one placement in top-5 during 55 years – finally, finally seems to have risen from the ashes and actually might have a shot of even winning, of course Sweden is the one who is there in front of us.
Winning and hosting Eurovision is a great opportunity to showcase the host country’s history and culture to the world and giving a spotlight to the places around Europe that may not get much of it otherwise. It is a great way to grow tourism and interest in the host country at large, but also to strengthen the country’s brand, national identity and self-esteem.
Sweden doesn’t need any of that. They are already great, liked and well-known. They’ve hosted twice within the last decade and it’s not like many people weren’t familiar with Abba, Ikea, H&M and Swedish meatballs before that either. Not to mention the grip Sweden has on EBU too and how there have been recent changes in Eurovision that were modeled after Melodifestivalen, such as the new voting system, allowing pre-recorded backing vocals and producers deciding the running orders instead of it being random.
To use a school analogy, Sweden is the one student that constantly is one of the best in their class (most top-5 results of the 21st century) without seemingly putting much effort into it, but they are also the teacher’s (EBU’s) pet (always a great place in the running order) and from a rich family (can afford 1800 kg heavy led screens and other fancy technology). They get picked first to the sports teams in P.E. class (always qualifies to the final) and have a fawning court of other students (the juries) admiring anything they do.
Wouldn’t you start to dislike them at some point?

For the headcanons, can we get the first letter of their names? Like K for K, M for M, etc.
Kade/Kara:
K = Kiss(Are they a good kisser? Do they like to kiss? How often do they try to kiss you?)
They are a good kisser, yes. Though kissing isn't something they actively think about liking or not, they definitely don't mind it and find it one of the easiest ways to showcase their affection for you. How often do they do it? They tend to bestow good morning cheek kisses every day, and a forehead kiss when they get home from work, with a bunch of other ones littered throughout, so it's truly up in the air.
Michael/Margot:
M = Marriage(Do they want to get married? If so, what kind of ceremony?)
Most definitely. They truly wish to get married and have everything that it entails. As for the ceremony? Or should I say ceremonies? The first would definitely be a low-key affair, meant for close friends and family, and the second one would be the definition of a Steele Family Event. Something that would more than likely happen at one of the Estates that the Steele Family owns (like in France or Ireland).
Blaine/Blaire:
B = Breath(What could their s/o do to take their breath away?)
If you want the B answer-- if you surprise tackle them. That'll definitely knock the wind out of their lungs. If you want a different answer? Teasing/flirting with them will definitely cause their breath to catch at times. It just reminds them of how different things are now.
Wren/Wynn:
W = Wild Card(Get a random domestic headcanon of the character of your choice)
When spending time with their nephew, Scott, W will dress up in Star Trek costumes. It's something they're super protective about when it comes to spending time with him, and it's something they don't let just anyone lose, so when the MC is first invited to do so? It's definitely a special moment. (Because the last person that was invited was Heather.)
Nicholas/Natalie:
N = Night out(What type of dates do they like to go on? How often do they like to go on them?)
They really enjoy low-key nights. Not that a night on the town is completely out of the question, but a picnic underneath the stars, a hike in the forests of Aurora, or a day on the lake, is what they naturally gravitate towards. They'd try to go on them as much as they can because it combines their love for nature with their love for you.

just saw a british person complain that a fic featuring characters from a thai tv show was too 'american' because a character said the word 'totally' in it. then they said that they hoped they weren't including too many british terms in their fic, because that would be a point of embarrassment.
what a sad way of looking at the world! as though chinese fans writing mcu fanfic aren't doing their best but will inevitably get things about the usa wrong--as though thai fans writing fanfic about american tv shows are doing their best but will inevitably get things wrong. you've talked about this before but I guess I still want to harp on it bc I think it's a real joy-stifler in fandom.
it's one thing if someone who knows nothing about ireland tries to write about the troubles with no research, or someone who knows nothing about thailand tries to write about the thaification process of the mid 20th century and its treatment of racial minorities with no research. but that's not usually what people are complaining about. it's characters saying 'totally' or saying 'so and so went to the shops' instead of the 'store.'
who cares! who cares if the characters went to the 'shops!' there is no default version of any language that isn't the result of large corporations trying to sell mass quantities of shit or coercive government standardization efforts. every bit of writing, throughout history, has been written by a person living in a particular place and time. I think there's real joy and experimentation in fans showcasing their own place and time, rather than being ashamed of it.
--
Writing in English about things not originally in English always means a bit of a translation process. I find my own dialect the most neutral... just like most people who speak other dialects also do.
Being too uptight about all this definitely stifles the creative drive.

Saartjie (Sara) Baartman was one of the first black women known to be subjugated to human sexual trafficking. She was derisively named the “Hottentot Venus” by Europeans as her body would be publicly examined and exposed inhumanly throughout the duration of her young life.  Moreover. her experience reinforced the already existing and extremely negative sexual fascination with African women bodies by the people of Europe.
Sara Baartman was born in 1789 at the Gamtoos River, now known as the Eastern Cape in South Africa. Baartman and her family were members of the Gonaquasub group of the Khoikhoi. Baartman grew up on a colonial farm where she and her family most likely worked as servants. Her mother died when she was aged two and her father, who was a cattle driver, died when she was still a young girl.
By her teenage years Baartman married a Khoikhoi man who was a drummer. They had a child together who died shortly after birth. When Baartman was sixteen, her husband was murdered by Dutch colonists. Soon after, she was sold into slavery to a trader named Pieter Willem Cezar, who took her to Cape Town where she became a domestic slave to his brother, Hendrik. On October 29, 1810, although she could not read, 21-year-old Baartman supposedly signed a contract with William Dunlop, a physician, who was a friend of the Cezar brothers.
This contract required her to travel with the Cezar brothers and Dunlop to England and Ireland where she would work as a domestic servant since technically slavery had been abolished in Great Britain. Additionally, she would be exhibited for entertainment purposes. Baartman would receive a portion of earnings from her exhibitions and would be allowed to return to South Africa after five years. However, the contract was false on all details and her enslavement continued for the remainder of her life.
Baartman was first exhibited in London in the Egyptian Hall at Piccadilly Circus on November 24, 1810. Her public treatment, however, quickly drew the attention of British abolitionists who charged Dunlop and the Cezars with holding Baartman against her will. The court ruled against Baartman after Pieter Cezar produced the contract that had been signed by Baartman. Baartman also testified that she was not being mistreated.
The publicity generated by the court trial increased Baartman’s popularity as an exhibit.  She was taken on tours throughout England and by 1812 as far away as Limerick, Ireland.
In September 1814, after staying four years in Great Britain, Baartman was taken to France and sold to S. Reaux, an exhibitor who showcased animals. He put Baartman on public display in and around Paris, often at the Palais Royal. He also allowed her to be sexually abused by patrons willing to pay for her defilement. Reaux garnered considerable profit due to the public’s fascination with Baartman’s body.
Sara Saartjie Baartman died in Paris on December 29, 1815 at the age of 26 for unknown reasons.  Even after her death, many of her body parts would go on display at the Musée de l’Homme (Museum of Man), in Paris to support racist theories about people of African ancestry. Some of the body parts remained on display until 1974.
In 1994 South African President Nelson Mandela formally requested that Baartman’s remains be returned to South Africa.  On March 6, 2002, her remains were returned and buried at Hankey in the Eastern Cape Province.

There's something about earthbound I've been wondering about and i think maybe you can weigh in as the local expert. I keep seeing fans interpret jeff as British but to me that's not fully right because winters is this super cold snow country "up north" as the game says. So i always imagined him as something norse, y'know Swedish or Norwegian or Finnish maybe (heck even russian could be fun). But it's just a vibe on my end while the way Fans call him British feels like there's some canonical proof i missed somewhere? Sooo do you know if there's any big proof that jeff would be British or is it just a fanon agreement thing?
Howdy! Well, the British allegations are not unfounded. EarthBound is somewhat like Pokémon in which different areas are clearly based on real world areas based on their positioning, parallels to real world landmarks, local food, and so forth. Eagleland is the U.S., Scaraba is Egypt, and Winters is no exception!
Our first little bit of proof can be found in the Japanese manual, where it contains a rough world map. Here it is (this time, a different version to the one previously posted!) for reference and a zoomed in version including Winters in as much detail as I can provide with what I've got. I had to stitch this from a double page scan, so please forgive some artifacting issues.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Id: A scan from the Japanese Mother 2 manual, showcasing a planet much resembling our own in real life but with different regions and towns marked. The zoomed in portion reads "Foggyland" in big text with "Winters" and "Stonehenge" written in a smaller font below, descending vertically in that order.]
There appears to be a little island in the general area of Winters and Stonehenge, just like the U.K. in real life!
But here's the question: is Winters there? I know this map is a little unclear with its huge text, but hang in there. Even though Winters looks like it might be on that rightmost landmass, take a look at the full map of Winters (which I am only linking and not embedding because it is very big), and you have Winters and Stonehenge in the same landmass; just cross the Lake Tess on Tessie!
For reference, the American manual confirms it's a lake, so either they're both on the landmass, or both on the island.
Tumblr media
[Id: A scan from the American EarthBound manual. It is a plain text paragraph reading "The South Shore. If you manage to catch a ride with Tessie to the South Shore of Lake Tess, you'll find more woods and some animals that you've already met like the Goat. Follow the path southward, defending yourself as you go. A short hike will bring your to a fascinating artifact and another amazing challenge."]
So, here's where we get to real world parallels. Lake Tess and Tessie are clearly analogues to Loch Ness and Nessie (located in northern Scotland just above England), and Stonehenge literally shares its name with its real world counterpart located in southern England. So, if we are to match these locations, then Winters would logically be on the island, meaning that Jeff would be from the EB equivalent of the United Kingdom, which encompasses England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. He could really be from any of these! Therefore, your options here would be British, Scottish, Welsh, or Irish, but it seems like British is the most common interpretation.
Hope that helped!
