I feel like trigun maximum just hit that perfect sweet spot of bad DID representation done right. like yes the classic small system, blackout split, with one of them being the stereotypical crazy murderer but there's more to trimax before and after their introduction thats so important. they took all of the DID villain movie tropes, put them in a dying word + a murder cult, and shouted the same thing they've been shouting at everyone for the past 80 chapters: THEY'RE STILL HUMAN, THEY DESERVE A FUTURE!! the same volume they introduce him in is the same volume they get thrown on their redemption arc, because it wasn't DID that was his problem it was their abuser and the thing he made them do. trimax just hits you over the head with all the themes with one character and they're well written and well loved in the rest of the series. they get a cowboy hat and they both purse the cowboy way! the main take away wasn't that razlo needs to be put in a cage, it was hey this protector is trying his best, he has his own emotions, be kind to him. it was really refreshing to see in media and I didn't expect it to come from this.
im afraid that trigun stampede is going to miss the mark. not in a sense that I think they're going to change the ending, but how the story is building up is different. we haven't been shown several instances of the average joe having to kill for personal gain to survive on no man's land, so it makes livio and razlo feel like an individual crazed threat looming over the horizon. it also leans into the horror of episode 6 and 7 and ends up having a demonizing way of depicting disassociation. when wolfwood is in the cell pleading for him and livios just standing there with his eye mysteriously glowing, it gives me the ick. not that there can't be a narrative where both livios and wolfwoods feelings are being recognized in a meaningful way, its more that there's too much time given to ruminate in wolfwoods pov, that the audience is going to see them as threatening longer duration. manga readers know whats coming but a majority of viewers do not. [I did absolutely enjoyed wolfwood pulling him out of disassociation with smell the smell of smoke and calmly saying wake up old friend, it melted my heart. I also thought it was funny when livio shot himself but thats just me and a whole other tangent lmao]
do I think this is going to be better when the series is finished and everyone has all of the pieces? yes, absolutely. its just that the years inbetween their redemption undos what made trimaxs good
TLDR: trimax makes you feel like a fucking idiot for even doubting for a chapter that they were going to stray from their core theme of "everyone deserves a future" just because these guys are a DID system with blood on their hands. meanwhile tristamp finds its faults in the time it takes to get livio and razlo to their redemption arcs because it paints them to be a looming threat more than 2 dudes in a lot of pain.
other systems in the trigun fandom please tell me your thoughts + we should be friends

I spent the weekend scrolling through the D20/Matt Mercer drama-discourse and it was amazing to me how many people fully admitted they don’t know anything about Matt but still find him sus. And maybe this is what caught the twitter people off guard too because they had taken this weird personal preference based off LITERALLY NOTHING and took it as gospel, so when actual friends of Matt came to his defense, those twitter people didn’t understand how they could be wrong because to them, thats how they believe everyone feels.
But it’s not even about the weird Matt bullying! Like if you don’t like Matt or his DMing, then whatever! But truly I was blown away by how many people were like, I don’t know anything about him but I know he sucks. Like one person said he gave off Ivy-Hopeful-Reject energy. Like this person doesn’t even know that Matt never applied or had any intention to go to college cause his family couldn’t afford it. Him and Marisha come from a working class background. And again that doesn’t make them morally superior! There are working class people who suck! But let’s be real, the lack of curiosity or investigation into this speaks so much to how this discourse came about. Those who attack people without knowing anything about them are ultimately projecting their own shit.
Look if you want to be a hater, I can’t stop you. But remember if you post a public comment on a public forum and someone publicly responds to it in a way you don’t like, you have no one to blame but yourself. If there is one good thing to come out of Ted Lasso it’s this line, “Be curious, not judgmental.”

McIntosh County Shouters: Gullah-Geechee Ring Shout from Georgia
The McIntosh County Shouters is a ten-member Gullah-Geechee group that began performing professionally in 1980. They have educated and entertained audiences around the United States with the "ring shout," a compelling fusion of counterclockwise dance-like movement, call-and-response singing, and percussion consisting of hand claps and a stick beating the rhythm on a wooden floor.
African in its origins, the ring shout affirms oneness with the Spirit and ancestors as well as community cohesiveness. The ring shout was first described in detail during the Civil War by outside observers in coastal regions of South Carolina and Georgia. Its practice continued well into the 20th Century, even as its influence was resounding in later forms like spiritual, jubilee, gospel and jazz.
By the late 20th century, the ring shout itself was presumed to have died out until its rediscovery in McIntosh County in 1980; thus, the beginning of the McIntosh County Shouters.
The group was awarded the NEA National Heritage Fellowship in 1993, and were selected as Producers of Distinction and Founding Members of the "Georgia Made Georgia Grown Program," in 2009.
Their performances include the National Black Arts Festival, of Smithsonian Folklife Festival, World Music Institute, and Sound Legacies at Emory University. The group has been featured in magazines and documentaries, including HBO's Unchained Memories.

In the Kajudo: Rise of the Duel Masters X Trollhunters Crossover, does Aaaarrrgh find out about Mighty Shouters ostracization from the village because of his "madness" of battles in the human world? Does it remind him of his time when he first joined back with Troll society after leaving the Gumm-Gumms?
Yes for both. Aaaarrrgh definitely isn't the type to share his story with strangers but Mighty Shouter is like a fellow brother when it comes to such familiar trauma. The two have formed a pretty powerful friendship that the idea of teaching Toby to summon him crossed his mind multiple times.
Nature Creatures will come to the aid of those they see as kin with Mighty Shouter being no different.

Pro-tip for people who get depressed in dreary or stormy weather: CRY IN THE RAIN
I’ve found that the best way for me to not hate rain and storms is to just become part of it. I will go on a walk, and instead of fighting the losing battle of trying not to get wet, I just make sure I have a few layers for warmth and then accept the rain as it comes. As someone with a lot of sensory issues, this is actually easier for my brain to handle then trying not to get wet. So long as I know that the MOMENT I am inside I can change into warm dry clothes.
Just the feeling of the wind and the stinging cold and the sounds and the water, it is kinda nice when I’m feeling very emotionally numb. And a lot of time it allows me to actually feel emotions that I’ve been pushing down or not had the energy to feel. I’ve shouted with the wind, cried with the rain, and sat with puddles and just allowed myself to exist.
I just…highly recommend going out into a rainstorm and getting completely soaked and sobbing about your broken heart. No one listens better then the hundred howling voices of the wind all wailing along with you.

Song of the day
Lloyd Price-Question
youtube
An incredibly well written and fun song about some of the great questions on life. While it isnt as evocatively story telling as Stagger Lee (also by Lloyd Price), it is still incredibly clever.
But the melody is also very catchy, and the performance by Price, the band and the backing vocals is stellar in the way they almost...punctuate whenever he sings "Question"

SOME CATS: meow sweetly but insistently at bedtime, giving their caretaker a beseeching stare, wanting you to take care of yourself and come be a snuggle friend
MY CAT: is he- yes he's clawing up the couch again to let me know it's bedtime
