I thought, ok, he can get a cat since he loves cats so much, and I guess I’ll pet it a little too. But it turns out little Sushi is just the greatest little kitty friend! This is my favorite photo of Benny & Gracie. She was so disgusted by his huge slobbery tongue, and he enjoyed every moment of torturing her! 😹 Still no sign at all of Gracie anywhere. There was a very similar cat that had been brought into the shelter yesterday but was no match. It's absolutely disgusting/absurd that out of 3 full cat rooms, they only have less than 12 stray cats listed on their website! It's the easiest way to reunite cat and owner. Wtf. Their special cat room where they can run loose has only 4 cats in it. Empty cages at Petco once again. No more kitty yoga with the public, it was replaced by puppy yoga. Adoption specials apply to dogs only, even though they have very few dogs. How can you treat cats in such an appalling way? Humane Society of the Black Hills needs a serious reorganization. We would prefer to send him to a straight out adoption as he is in good health, FeLV/FIV negative and blind. Getting used to a new home is stressful so we aim to alleviate that stress. He loves dogs. My hubby's black cat, Gracie, slipped out the door last Saturday night and hasn't been seen since. 😔 In searching for her, we learned that both our park AND the city FINES people for caring for stray cats! They trap them and either inhumanely dispose of them, or they're taken to the humane society. Humane Society of the Black Hills has little interest in adopting cats, as proven with lack of adoption programs (dogs only!) AND the fact they rooms full of "stray" cats that'll never make it to the adoption floor, much less their website. The local Petco does adoptions, except their cages are hidden behind merchandise and typically remain empty. Someone has to call put Rapid City for the absolutely ATROCIOUS and APPALLING way cats are treated here. Zero TNR programs, no professional rescues, little attempts to adopt homeless cats. Just SHAME ON YOU.
