Accès au cinéma invisible et le festival Hip Opsession vous donnent rendez-vous, le lundi 26 février, pour découvrir un film sur les débuts du hip-hop : Krush Groove, sorti au cinéma en 1985 aux USA, mais jamais sorti en France.

Au début des années 1980, dans une chambre d'étudiant à New York, Russell Walker et Rick Rubin montent un label indépendant, Krush Groove, destiné à faire connaître les jeunes artistes d'un genre en plein explosion : le hip-hop. Pour pouvoir financer la distribution d'un disque de Run DMC, Russell emprunte de l'argent à un mac. Il va devoir aussi affronter les querelles d'ego et  la pression des majors qui flairent la poule aux œufs d'or.

Version très romancée des débuts du label Def Jam dans les années 80, Krush Groove actualise l'esprit des films de rock’n’roll des années 50 et 60, des comédies légères prétextes à des numéros d'artistes prisés de la jeunesse, en le transposant dans l'univers du hip-hop. Dans son premier rôle, Blair Underwood incarne un pendant fictif du producteur Russell Simmons, entouré de pionniers du rap jouant leurs propres rôles : Run DMC, The Fat Boys, Kurtis Blow, les Beastie Boys, LL Cool J... ainsi que Sheila E, future batteuse de Prince. Le film est aussi une curiosité dans sa manière de traduire, en traitant le scénario sur le mode léger, l'esprit juvénile de son époque, avec d'amusants effets de montage qui retrouvent la fraîcheur et l'énergie des beats et des scratches.

The third season of Physical, the TV series from Annie Weisman, is out today.

Set in the idyllic but fragile beach paradise of sunny 1980s San Diego, Physical is a half-hour dark comedy following Sheila Rubin (Byrne), a quietly tortured, seemingly dutiful housewife supporting her smart but controversial husband’s bid for state assembly.
