FebruarOC Day 9: Io
Io had known about the stranger for months now. Despite their best efforts at staying out of sight, it was noticeable when the same figure appeared in every single town Io visited. But after so long, Io hadn’t expected a head-on confrontation, which is why it came as a shock to find the stranger standing in front of Io, their hood casting deep shadows where their face should be.
“Io Andrade.”
“Yes?” Io replied, more wary than curious.
The stranger pulled down the hood, and Io took a startled step back before rationality caught up. The man appeared older than Io, with unfamiliar pale blue eyes. But his hair, while going grey at the roots, was a deep wine-red that Io had seen on very few other people, one of whom was dead now, and the other locked away for her murder.
“My name is Martin Kotter,” the man said.
“Yavin’s son,” Io finished.
Martin grimaced. “Yes, I suppose that fact would be obvious to you.”
Io gave a slight nod. “Why have you been following me?”
“I have heard many stories of the atrocities my father has committed,” Martin said carefully. “And while I know it is not my place to try and atone for him, I would like to try. And if nothing else, I would like to offer my help to stop him from causing more chaos.”
Europa’s blade was a burning ember of guilt pressed up against the small of Io’s back, a reminder of Yavin and Europa’s fate, and Io’s role in it.
“You are too late,” was all that Io said. “He has been dealt with.”
Martin frowned. “But there is no way to kill a Celestial. Unless…” He trailed off, a strange mix of curiosity and horror painted across his face.
Io scoffed. “You are correct, there is no known way of killing one with the blood of a Celestial. But Yavin and Europa have been dealt with. By the time they discover a way to wreak havoc once again, you shall be long gone.”
“No, I won’t.” Martin held Io’s gaze steadily, as if challenging Io to call his bluff. “I may have aged more than you or my father, but I still have the blood of a Celestial running through my veins.”
“Oh.” Io didn’t know how to feel about the news. Pity for yet another cursed with this immortality in a land of mortals? Anger at the brother who had never cared about anybody but himself and Europa? Apathy, because Io had never asked for any of this, and every day the allure of following in Jupiter’s footsteps and disappearing forever grew even stronger?
“So, when the day inevitably comes that my father is loose upon Astral again, I would like to be prepared to help stop him,” Martin said, and for a moment all Io could see were echoes, of Pandora and her determination, of Calipsa and her conviction.
Europa’s blade burned dully against Io’s skin. Io was tired.
“Do whatever you wish.” Io turned away from Martin. “But not here. Not with me. Calipsa has taken up residence in Silvervale once again. She will appreciate your help far more.”
“But what about you?” Martin asked as Io began to leave.
I do not need a little duckling following me around to remind me of my sins, is what Io didn’t say. I do not want to face the future head on like you and Calipsa. I want my sister, my life when we were young. I want to be mortal. I want—I want—
“I’ll live,” Io said. “I always will.”

Gavin’s “I’m Your Jupiter” -An Astronomical Analysis
Tumblr media
Been wanting to this analysis for a long time and here it is! I also did a birth chart reading for Gavin here so you can read more on the astrological background context on his character before proceeding onto this analysis! Please enjoy :) By the way, the photo shown is the most recent photo of Jupiter! Jupiter is very beautiful, right, Gavin?
Even though the game has so much intertextuality, I had finally encountered a discrepancy. I had to triple check to make sure, but now I have to break it to everyone that Gavin's Jupiter astronomy statement is factually not that accurate!
However, there was a conjunction on the 31th December, 2008 with the Moon and Jupiter.
Tumblr media
Other than this, there was no information to reinforce what Gavin says.
UNLESS...
The writers weren't talking about our Moon, but one of Jupiter’s. Although, they still didn’t specify which Moon. Jupiter actually has (what now scientists think) 79 moons in total, some that have been still unnamed. There actually may be a hundred more.
From what I strongly feel from my research, they might have been implying Callisto, Jupiter’s second largest Moon.
Callisto is also known as Jupiter IV, and is the third largest moon in the Solar System, discovered in 1610 by Galileo Galilei.
Tumblr media
As it’s the fourth Moon from Jupiter by distance, it’s not in orbital resonance (orbiting bodies exert gravitational resonance with one another) with the other Galilean satellites (Io, Europa, and Ganymede), thus not tidally heated (tidal friction dissipates as heat).
Instead, Callisto’s rotation is tidally locked to its orbit with Jupiter, resulting in the same hemisphere facing inwards, making Jupiter appear directly overhead.
Because of its more remote orbit algorithm, it's less affected by Jupiter’s magnetosphere, as it’s just outside of its main radiation belt. Callisto has even been considered a suitable place for human life!
Still, whatever Moon it may be, we can analyse how this is an effective metaphor for Gavin and MC!
“Have you noticed that Jupiter is very bright today?” -Go Meet Him
Tumblr media
Jupiter, as the largest planet in the Solar System, is the fourth brightest object in the sky (after the Sun, Moon, and Venus).
Keywords for this planet are luck, law, honour, hope, and morality. This would represent Gavin.
It’s also the planet of expansion, long distance and foreign travel, authority and knowledge. Wherever it appears, it’s going to elevate and expand that certain aspect of your life. It can also rule astronomy and astrology, philosophy and religion. It’s known to bring more luck, fortune and prosperity in life.
To say the very least, Gavin would always follow his morals and strive in the direction towards proper justice without the interference of others. He is also a straightforward but deep thinker, allowing his heart to guide him instead of his head, which sometimes brings out a more philosophical side of him.
MC: You haven’t answered me yet. Do you believe in stars too, Gavin? Gavin: Can’t say I do. But sometimes I do feel like some things are destined, like... -Gacha and Destiny Call
The Moon represents the feminine, birth, death, intuition, creativity and change. If this was presented in the main storyline, this would also mean MC’s QUEEN equivalent.
“See that brightest star in the southeast? That’s Jupiter, the biggest planet. You know, no matter how far apart they are, Jupiter always shows up at a set time right next to the Moon, standing guard over her...”
(The Moon exerts a feminine energy, therefore, we use the pronoun “she” for the Moon.)
As QUEEN, she would be the one to influence worldly events. Like how the Moon can influence oceans on planets due to their gravitational pulls, as well as migration, navigation, light and time. As such, the Moon would also be influencing Jupiter and vice versa.
Imagine, Jupiter, the biggest planet, hovering over the tiny Moon of Callisto- this would be the imagery of Gavin’s intended meaning of relaying protection for MC.
In return, MC would always guide Gavin towards pursuing justice and influence him with the pure goodness of her heart- being within each other’s reach, as it seems like they’re orbiting each other, their worlds revolving around each other, rather than one to the other.
As Callisto is independent from orbital resonance unlike other Moons, this further sets MC apart from others. For Gavin, it has “always and always will be MC.” Like how the officers would throw themselves at Gavin at work, while he would coldly eject them out of orbit.
“Hmm, what type of girl are you..? I would say... you are very brave. Very kind. And you look very soft outside, but inside... very stubborn. What about me? In your opinion, what kind of guy am I? Am I reliable? Do I make you feel safe? Just you know... if you think I’m handsome, you can stare at me all you want.” -Accompanying You ASMR
This kind of interaction and display of trust and love between the two with the use of Jupiter and the Moon from Starry Date is something we can always look up to, nonetheless!
Before I had figured out what he meant, Gavin had taken my hand and jumped into the sky. I looked around and saw that we were flying in a blue sea of stars. They seemed almost within arms reach. He smiled and raised his hand, whipping a gust of wind, and grabbing tightly onto my hand again.
I turned aside out of shyness, but the arms around my shoulders gently pulled me closer to him. He tilted his head and looked me into the eyes. His eyes were glowing, seeming to say to me, “don’t run”.
I tried to meet his gaze, and as we made eyes contact, even the surrounding stars seemed to go dim.
Tumblr media
“Just trust me. I’m your Jupiter.”

Part Three
Virgil ended up dosing Gordon as the aquanaut turned positively green after the second jump.
He dragged his brother to the infirmary and made him lie down for the rest of the ion pause. Gordon protested the anti-nausea injection, but Virgil wasn’t willing to risk airborne innards. He was barely holding it together himself.
John, surprisingly wasn’t much better. Not that the casual observer would be able to tell. His space brother was the master of self-control. But Virgil could see the tightness around his mouth, the slightly pale cast to his skin…he kept an eye on him.
By the third jump, Virgil was dosing himself with anti-nausea meds.
It was the oddest feeling. His body wanted to register it as a g-force, but it wasn’t quite the same. It hit his stomach and his head and it was like spinning in both directions at once.
Ergh, even thinking about it was nauseating.
John didn’t need any medication. Or so he claimed. As far as Virgil was concerned, it came damned close. He kept an eagle eye on his space brother anyway.
As for the rest of the crew...Scott and Alan didn’t appear to even notice the issue, their Dad grunted a little and Uncle Lee made several salty comments.
Michael just arched an eyebrow when Virgil queried him.
Before the fourth jump he forcibly dragged them all through the tiny sickbay, just in case.
The whining was extensive.
But this was new technology. A threat to call back to Grandma was all it took to shift both his father and Uncle Lee. Who could have known their uncle was mildly terrified of their grandmother.
His father was rather amused. The story behind that one was not fully divulged, but it lightened the atmosphere a little.
Michael worshipped Mrs Tracy, as he called her, and was out of his seat so fast, he created eddies in the artificial atmosphere.
Virgil was not going to question that one at all.
Ultimately, Virgil didn’t find anything wrong with any of his brothers or the others, but he did record all observations. Perhaps the reason could be found and negated sometime down the track.
In the meantime, Gordon and himself were suitably drugged up and Alan’s smart-ass comment on the matter stamped on by Scott.
Finally, thank god, they emerged from the fifth jump and Alan was able to shift to more familiar spaceflight permanently.
Beside Virgil, Gordon let out a relieved sigh.
The ship shuddered as the ion engines were once again engaged. Alan’s skill was ever so prominent and Virgil felt nothing but pride for his little brother. He must remember to mention it to the squirt later on.
John, still looking a little green, ran his fingers over his board and brought up their forward view on the main ‘projector.
“Well, I have to say that is quite a sight.” Dad’s voice was suitably awed.
Virgil’s jaw dropped.
Jupiter.
It was massive.
And far more impressive in person than through a telescope.
The huge gas giant was still distant, but the sun behind them lit it up in all its glory. Its brilliant swirls of colour were in such contrast to the black around it, it was like a hole in the fabric of space-time, a window to another dimension.
Its iconic red spot glared at them like an eye.
Virgil knew the planet well from both photographs and Five’s telescopes. Its colours were fascinating and inspirational. He’d done a few pours in acrylic to emulate the gaseous agitation with mixed results. One hung in John’s room, even. But nothing compared to this.
“That is one honkin’ great big ball o’ gas.”
Virgil flattened his gaze and glared at the back of Uncle Lee’s head. Beside him, Gordon snorted.
Typical.
On the hologram, labels suddenly appeared identifying each of the features in the space-scape. Ganymede coasted slowly on the left, Io was a tiny dot casting a shadow on Jupiter’s surface and an arrow pointed out where Europa was obscured by the giant planet.
Jupiter’s ring was located, along with several of its seventy-odd asteroid moon hoard.
A glance at John had Virgil smiling. The expression on his space brother’s face was a sight to behold. It was as if he had discovered the holy grail…which, considering the importance of the Jovian system, was a good analogy.
This was John paradise.
“Receiving recognition signal from Callisto.” His space brother’s expression shifted to one of quiet amusement as his fingers poked his console.
“How the hell did you get here so quick?!” The hologram that suddenly appeared in the middle of the cockpit was energetic to say the least. Graeme Walters was a bald, heavy-set man in his fifties. Fiery eyes set deeply below steel grey eyebrows were striking by themselves, but it was the extravagant moko that was the dominant feature of his expression. The black etched design on the entirety of the right side of his face spoke of his mother’s Maori ancestry.
Those dark eyes didn’t wait for an answer as they glanced around, only to fixate on Virgil’s father. “Jeff?”
“Hey, Gray. Long time, no see.”
The man stared for a long moment, lips pressing together. A drawn in breath. “Good to see you, Space Jockey.” The relieved smile that infused his face was a big one.
But it didn’t last long.
Scott spoke up. “Mr Walters, we are responding to your distress call. What is your situation?”
Dark eyes flickered to the commander, a frown forming between them. “Ju and Kate were exploring the caves beneath the Base. They extend for hundreds of kilometres in all directions. They took three staff and one of our spelunking crawlers towards the north. Kate is fascinated by the Asgard impact zone and in particular Burr crater. They had planned to be gone a week. We lost contact yesterday, only two days in.” A map appeared in the hologram. “We think they made it to Burr, but we are unsure as our sensors are swamped with interference.”
“Interference?” John sat up straighter. “Send me a radiological profile of the area.”
Walters blinked and gestured at something out of range. “It’s yours. Though I’m hoping that big fancy rocket you’re riding has more bang for its buck than our orbital.”
John’s voice was calm. “I can assure you, Mr Walters, we have plenty of bang.” His brother was intent on his console, frowning at whatever the Base commander had sent him.
“Good.” He turned back to Jeff. “Looking forward to a beer in your honour, Jeff. Park your rocket in orbit and I’ll see you down here asap.” A curl of his lips. “Watch the Jefferson. I’ve just had her waxed.” The hologram blinked out.
“The Jefferson?”
Nobody answered him and the cockpit was suddenly quiet.
Virgil wondered if it was pure accident his father didn’t know or if Scott and John had left the name out of the briefing on purpose. Hell, why hadn’t Uncle Lee told him? Perhaps they had meant to approach Dad later in private. Perhaps Virgil should have done that himself, but the rush to leave…
Damn.
The massive space hauler that had brought the Callisto mission to the moon had left Earth in 2056 a year after their father had gone missing.
Virgil sighed internally. ‘Gone missing’ was a euphemism for ‘died’ that they all used. They didn’t name spaceships after people they thought might be coming back.
“On approach.” Alan’s words snapped him out of his thoughts.
His little brother tweaked the view on the main projector.
Dad was tight-lipped as he stared up at the scene.
Jupiter still hung in the distance like a massive Christmas ornament, but its second largest moon was swelling in the foreground.
Callisto was a moon of rock and ice. Unlike her sister, Europa, the surface was not one continuous blanket of white. More a cratered wasteland, the moon’s ancient crust sparkled like it was dusted with glitter. As the Excel powered into orbit, that glittery surface turned its eye towards them.
And it was an eye. Not like the red spot that continued to stare at them from Jupiter, but a single massive crater outshining the millions of smaller ones, glaring up at them from the surface.
Words appeared on the display yet again. Valhalla.
“Wow. Something hit hard.” Gordon’s voice beside him was little more than a whisper.
The Excel swooped past and around the moon, turning away from Jupiter as she caught the curve of a new orbit. Virgil’s attention was focussed on Callisto, so he didn’t see the approach of the other ship at first.
“There she is.” Alan’s voice was awe itself. “The Jefferson Tracy.”
“You let them name a ship after me?”
Again that silence enveloped the cockpit.
Scott sighed. “It was a sign of respect, Dad.” His eyes were sad as he looked up at the display.
Jeff stared at the commander for a long moment. Scott simply stared back, the expression on his face enough to clench Virgil’s heart.
Uncle Lee was either oblivious or strategic in his words. “Jeff, she is a beauty. Just look at those engines. She hauled the entire base all the way out here and didn’t blink.” He grinned at the ship as she slowly floated past. There were enough similarities in design between the Jefferson and Thunderbird Two in the way the hauler carried chained ‘modules’ and sported a massive rocket on her backend for Virgil to admire. But she was many times the size of his ‘bird, had never seen planetfall and never would, having been built in space.
Zero X technology had been the next step in space exploration.
The Zero X had failed.
The Jefferson was the result. Alternate technology named after the man the original technology had taken.
Most of her modules were missing and no doubt deployed on the moon, but the hauler was still massive, her giant hull decked out in blue and silver.
A splash of red on her bow completed the illusion. While she was built more like a giant Thunderbird Two, she drew her paint job from a much smaller craft.
“Well, that looks familiar.” Gordon murmured beside Virgil.
He had to agree. Even the white lettering down the side of the huge craft that spelt out their father’s name was an echo of the Thunderbird lettering down One’s flank.
“Why?” Their father didn’t specify who he was addressing, but it wasn’t necessary.
Scott sat straighter in his seat. “As I said, they wanted to show their respect. I couldn’t see the harm. Tracy Industries was a major sponsor, after all.” And they had been hurting.
Bad.
Virgil remembered far too well. Scott had received the request after a long and hard day. He had been vulnerable and had sought out Virgil’s counsel.
It had been like declaring Dad dead and it had hurt so much. But the opportunity to see their father so recognised, so esteemed by the planet he had sacrificed himself for…in the end there had been no question of giving permission.
It was what their father would have wanted.
They hadn’t expected him to actually see the Jefferson Tracy.
Again Uncle Lee spoke up, this time his voice was unusually quiet. “Berry and Ju just wanted you to keep them safe, Jeff. You were our lucky charm, after all.”
Virgil’s father frowned at the engineer.
Jeff opened his mouth, but Alan cut him off. “Orbital stability achieved and locked in.”
The Jefferson passed them at a respectable distance on its own orbital trajectory and sailed off towards the moon’s curved horizon. Below them, another very large impact crater slowly rotated into view.
The word ‘Asgard’ appeared on the display.
Scott’s voice was sharp as he unstrapped himself. “That’s our target. John, what are the specifics?”
The astronaut turned his seat around to face them all. “The Base is contained within Doh crater, part of the Asgard complex.” An arrow appeared on the display pointing at a tiny shadow at the centre of the massive crater. “The docking facilities are large enough to support Thunderbird Three. Alan, I recommend a rear landing. Let’s not drill a hole in their hangar.”
“Well, yeah, derrr.”
Gordon piped up. “No, it’s D’oh, little bro.” The aquanaut grinned.
John did not roll his eyes. Not quite.
Virgil had no such control and just groaned.
“What? I’m right, aren’t I?”
“Gordon.” Scott’s voice was firm, but Virgil could see the slight crinkle around Scott’s eyes and appreciated Gordon’s effort to break up the atmosphere a little.
John ignored both of them. “Gravity is only 0.126g, even less than Earth’s Moon, so no stupid stunts.” Virgil wasn’t going to argue with the glare John sent in Scott’s direction, but when Uncle Lee picked up on it, the snort was a big one.
“It will be like being home on Alfie again.” The whack Lee planted on their father’s back was a solid one. “Hey, Space Jockey.”
The glare Dad shot at Uncle Lee was scathing. “Don’t you start.”
“Oh, it’s all coming back to me now.”
Virgil’s father grunted in disgust.
Uncle Lee only grinned more.
“We have a mission here, people.” Scott glared at all of them.
That shut up everyone and Virgil felt like throttling his brother. They were on pace. The break in tension was worth the moment.
Virgil straightened. “We have a number of pods available. I recommend a combination of all-terrain. We have the Dragonfly geared for low gravity environment, but it will depend on the size of these caves. John?”
“I’ve only just begun analysis, but as the Commander Walters said, Base sensors are badly compromised. I’ve tapped into the Jefferson with similar results. Using Thunderbird Five I hope to locate and negate the issue. Eos is working on it as we speak. My focus once the last communications buoy is connected, will be finding lifesigns and assistance with mapping the reported caves.”
“Thank you, John. Alan, you’re in Thunderbird Three. Virgil and Gordon, you’re with me. Dad-“
“I’m going down with you, Scott.”
“Me, too.” Uncle Lee was virtually bouncing in his seat.
Scott’s lips pressed together. “As I was saying, gear up and I’ll see you in Thunderbird Three.” The commander’s eyes flitted to Virgil ever so briefly, but the medic got the meaning immediately.
Medical supplies would be fully stocked.
Scott pushed off from his chair.
“Thunderbirds are go.”

World Wide Web
Hello darlings! Here's another of our $5+ Patron stories! I'm delighted to dedicate this one to Jon, who has been here almost since the beginning, and is always a delight. Thank you so much darling! Here it is! Vree's first visit to Earth.
+++
It was an opportunity offered to almost none.
An letter, on real paper, clearly hand-written and sealed with a single white scale pressed into iridescent deep blue wax.
An invitation to the most heavily-guarded place in the entire Human Galactic Empire.
Earth.
The invitation came by Imperial messenger, and the man seemed to know what it was, if his awed stare at Vree was any indication. Vree, having absolutely no idea what it was until he opened it,
But when he read the letter, the shimmering blue ink on crisp white paper that smelled of snow, his hand started to shake.
“Is this real?” he had asked Human-Nerea that evening, and had his answer when her face went pale. “I thought Earth was a sanctuary.”
“Amir told you that when one of the First Dragons want something, they usually get it,” she had told him, and patted his shoulder tentatively. “Lady Hoshi must really like you. I think you’re the first non-Human to ever be invited to the Great Library.”
And so Vree, tail puffed and ears twitching, stepped onto a ship, flew from one end of the galaxy to the other, and met with Carrier Caribbean, on her way back to her own Empire.
From Caribbean, he boarded a second ship and, for the first time, flew into the little solar system that had birthed an empire unlike any that could be imagined.
“That’s Neptune,” Human-Nerea told him as they came out of the Jump in the shadow of a great, blue gas-giant. She smiled and pressed her hand to it, inexplicably fond. “One of the many names for Posideon, the father of my kind.”
It looked much like any other gas-giant to Vree, but he took it in silently. It was rare to see the tradition, the ancient history of the race that, for all their openness about themselves, rarely spoke about the small planet they began on.
“That’s Jupiter,” Human-Nerea told him when another planet blurred past, this one even larger, and bright red. “His moons were some of our first real terraforming efforts. You can’t see Io or Callisto from here, but there’s Europa. These days, Europa is one of the most prestigious research stations of the Empire. I hope to teach there someday. And we’ll be going through the Kuiper Belt next. I don’t know if you can see it, but Kuiper Base started life as the same sort of ship as the Carriers. It was anchored long before the Carriers were Forged, though.”
There was a story there. Vree could smell it. But now wasn’t the time, and he gazed out of the wide windows as a distant orb came into sight, surrounded by smaller orbs, like a cloud of bubbles all linked together by thick walkways and smaller expansions across smaller asteroids.
It was smaller than Caribbean, but larger than Golfo de Mexico, and Vree wondered which of the human Seas it would have been named for, if it joined the Seven Carriers.
Before he could ask, it was gone, and space blurred around them as they closed the distance between them and the Human Homeworld.
“There’s Mars,” Human-Nerea said when they passed another red planet, this one glimmering with heavy colonization and a hive of activity. Mars is the stop-gap between us and Earth from here on out. No one gets close to Earth without getting clearance at Mars first.”
“Including us?”
“Our ship already has clearance from Lady Hoshi. We’re going straight to Luna Base.”
Luna was the human moon. The one that was nearly the size of Carrier Pacifica. The lone satellite of Earth. Vree had read about Luna Base, and knew that it was the final stop between him and Earth.
Their ship was not permitted into Earth Airspace. No ship was, except the Flyers that left the base itself. Earth was surrounded by devastating protective satellites, all designed to protect Earth herself. Only the Lunar Flyers were permitted past the blockade and down to Earth itself.
At first glance, Vree through that Luna Base was, in truth, Carrier Pacifica. For the first time, he understood the magnificence of the grand Carrier, the biggest of the Imperial ships.
But nothing could have prepared him for his first sight of Earth. It shone blue and green, with glints of silver here and there, the bones of cities long since abandoned but for historians and conservationists dedicated to keeping their homeworld as a sanctuary.
“I’ve never been here,” Human-Nerea said softly, her hand on the window. Her eyes were wide and wondering. “It’s.. it’s so beautiful. I’ve seen pictures, but nothing… nothing could have prepared me…”
“It is indeed beautiful,” Vree said, thinking of the deep red-gold sand of Ha’reet. No wonder the humans were so varied, and so many. To come from a world lush with water was an image of bliss. “Will you be coming to the surface with me?”
“I can’t,” Human-Nerea told him with a regretful smile. “Lady Hoshi didn’t invite me and no one lands on Earth without her permission. I’ll be staying on Luna Base.”
Vree didn’t like that at all, but there was no arguing with dragons. He knew that by now.
And so he boarded Flyer Perseverance, alone but for a single pilot, and fell like a tear from Luna Base into the rich green-blue of Earth.
The Great Library of Earth was an immense complex that sprawled across the entire planet. Domes and buildings rose in each little city, connected by fast-moving trains. Around the central library buildings were smaller buildings, the living quarters for the staff and scholars who lived on Earth.
The original Library, however, was high in the mountains of what Vree understood to be the continent of Asia.
It was a small building, at first glance, but when Vree looked longer, he realized that the temple that nestled on the cliffs was part of a much larger structure that, like the rest of the Library, was connected into the great web.
“We’re down,” the pilot, who had called himself Plato, said as he brought them down to a small landing pad. “Lady Hoshi knows we have arrived. She will signal for me when you are ready to depart.”
With that, the doors slid open, smooth and clean, and Vree took his first breath of Earth’s air.
Lady Hoshi, as Plato promised, was waiting for him. Her scales were bright in the yellow of Earth’s sun, and she rested her head on her front paws as she waited, content to bask until Vree arrived.
“Lady Hoshi,” Vree bowed as soon as he was clear of the little Flyer, and it lifted off, back to Luna Base. “Thank you for the invitation.”
“Dear Vree,” Lady Hoshi said, her deep voice a rumble even considering her comparatively small size, where dragons were concerned. “Welcome to Earth.”

Lunar Landings
A drabble that was written for the Kakashi Lounge Discord Server moon prompt!
Tumblr media
Rated: G; no archive warnings apply
Pairings: KakaMei (Background Kagumo)
Summary: “Dissatisfied with the moon, Kakashi seeks a colorful and lively alternative elsewhere in the cosmos.”
WC: 1945
Read: AO3 or below the cut:
Lunar Landings
“What is it, my love?” Kakashi felt his mother’s fingers weave through his cowlicks in a soothing gesture meant to coax honesty from him. “You seem so listless lately,” Kaguya added.
Kakashi sighed through his nose as he stared at the blue waters of Earth before it disappeared from the horizon of the moon.
“Are you so unhappy here that you want to return?” She urged and ran her open palm over the top of his head.
“No, no, that’s not it at all,” he answered quickly, but quietly. “I’ve no desire to return to such an unstable place as Earth. Ever since father passed, it hasn’t been home.”
“Then what’s troubling you?” Kaguya asked again, more gently at the mention of her late husband.
“I love you, Mother, and I enjoy your company,” Kakashi began with two truths before he stated a third, “but there is no atmosphere here.”
He turned his head to look at her. “I miss the effervescence of life. I miss how colorful it is, most of all.”
Kakashi tilted his face and lifted his hand to the infinite space above them. “Here, the sky is always black, whether it’s night or day, and everything looks dull and grey to my eyes.”
Kaguya hummed and nodded her head in understanding. “I thought that Earth was bright and lively, but I admit that it overwhelmed me at times. I am more accustomed to the muted tones of the moon, and so I brought you here after we lost Sakumo.”
She lifted her eyes to her son’s. “Perhaps I’ve been too selfish and kept you to myself for too long,” she humbly admitted. “You’ve grown into a strong and intelligent man; of course, you’d want to seek your place in the cosmos.”
His excitement at the prospect of such an adventure must’ve shown through Kakashi’s eyes because Kaguya smiled warmly at him. She trailed her fingers across his forehead, brushing his hair to the side. “If not Earth, where would you want to go?”
Kakashi glanced to the side as he thought for a moment. “Jupiter has long held my interest. It’s the largest and most colorful planet I have ever seen,” he replied.
“It’s a dangerous beauty, I’m afraid,” Kaguya cautioned her son. “The entire planet is nothing but clouds and storms. There’s nowhere for you to stand. However,” her hand stilled as inspiration struck, “Jupiter claims the most moons in the galaxy. There would be plenty for you to explore near it,” she smiled.
Kaguya called on Sirius to bear and protect her son, as well as Procyon to guide him through his journey. As soon as the shining dog stars arrived and Kakashi’s destination was decided, they set out for the moons that orbited Jupiter.
Procyon proved his knowledge of the short cuts through space, and their first destination came into focus, an ancient moon easily identified by its many multi-ringed impact scars. In nearly no time at all, Sirius lit down upon the battered surface of Callisto.
Kakashi was too impatient when he hopped off of Sirius. He lost his footing and tumbled down to the center of the nearest of countless craters that covered the surface. He stood and dusted himself off as Procyon barked a warning to him.
Alarmed, Kakashi looked up in time to see a meteor hurtling towards him. Before he could react, however, it was encased in a translucent cube and pulverized into dust.
“Who are you?”
The cranky question came from behind him, so Kakashi whipped around. He found the cantankerous-looking old man that had asked it hovering above the surface of Callisto.
“I am Kakashi,” he hesitated when the old man’s eyes narrowed dangerously at him. “Son of Kaguya,” he offered, aware that his mother’s name would be better known than his own.
“Ah,” the old man relaxed his scowl. “I am Ōnoki, and this is my moon—”
He was interrupted when another meteorite whizzed past him, disrupting his balance in midair. Kakashi could see that Ōnoki shouted angrily as he righted himself, but the loud crash at impact drowned out his curses.
The ground shook beneath Kakashi’s feet, and he toppled over again. “If you’re going to be here, make yourself useful!” Ōnoki hollered down at him.
Hard rock encased the old man’s fist, and he pummeled another meteorite before it too could crash into Callisto. “Is it always like this?” Kakashi shouted as he got to his feet.
“Yes,” Ōnoki growled as his eyes scanned the sky for the next projectile that dared to mar his moon.
Kakashi tensed and looked around as well. He spied another space rock approaching fast, and coming dangerously close to Sirius.
Lightning crackled in the palm of his hand, and Kakashi wielded it like a sword as he leaped to meet the meteorite, shattering the massive rock before it could do any harm.
“I might risk my safety, but I won’t risk yours,” he assured Sirius and Procyon when he dropped down on the back of the larger dog star. Procyon yelped his approval and bounded back into space, guiding the others once more.
“Tell your mother that she’s welcome here anytime,” Ōnoki called after them without looking away from the next massive meteorite that bore down on Callisto.
“Remind me to forget that message,” Kakashi mumbled to his companions once they were out of earshot.
Their next destination was impossible to miss. Ganymede, the largest moon in the solar system, was bigger than the planet Mercury. As they neared it, Sirius and Procyon stilled their limbs and allowed the magnetic field that surrounded the moon to pull them in. Kakashi marveled at the auroras as they drifted down, encouraged by the color that hovered high above the surface.
They touched down, slipped, spun, and finally skidded to a stop in a layer of frost. As soon as they stilled, booms as loud as thunderclaps came from below them, betraying a hidden layer of ice which they’d cracked on landing. Kakashi gently eased himself onto his feet as his eyes frantically searched the surface for solid, secure ground.
Before he could find it, however, something broke through the ice. A burst of water shot up and rained back down in icy droplets.
“Who are you?” A menacing voice cut through the spray, and its question rang more like a threat.
Kakashi wiped the saltwater droplets from his stinging eyes as Sirius and Procyon growled on either side of him.
A man with sharp, spiky black hair and grey skin bobbed in the hole that exposed Ganymede’s subsurface ocean.
“Who are you?” Kakashi responded by hurling the same question back at him.
“I am Kisame,” he said through the most dangerous smile Kakashi had ever seen, “and you are trespassing on my ocean, and my moon.”
Kisame turned his attention to the snarling dog stars. “It’s been a long time since anyone dared to challenge me; this should be fun,” he could barely contain his enthusiasm as he pulled himself as well as a massive sword out of the water.
Kakashi didn’t have much time to react, and he hoped rather than assumed that Ganymede’s ocean would behave like the ones he remembered on Earth. He wove hand signs quicker than the eye could follow, and the alien waters obeyed him, taking on the form of a dragon that engulfed and dragged Kisame back below the ice.
“Let’s go,” Kakashi commanded his canine companions. He ran to keep pace with them, mounted Sirius, and the three raced to the safety of the stars above Ganymede. As the immense moon disappeared below him, dismay caused him to second-guess his adventure, and for the first time since setting out, he considered that perhaps, what he sought in the cosmos couldn’t be found.
Kakashi’s apprehension grew as the lines that crisscrossed Europa came into focus. Procyon guided them toward the equator, where the distant sun shone the strongest on that moon. There were no mountains or craters to avoid, but landing proved problematic just the same.
As they neared the surface, great pillars of ice almost ten times Kakashi’s height rose to meet them. They were arranged in rows and, although gigantic, appeared like a crowd of humble, penitent figures.
“Who are you?” A voice reverberated.
Kakashi looked around him as he dismounted Sirius, and found the reflection of the youth that had spoken.
“I am Kakashi,” his answer bounced off the ice that surrounded them. “Who are you?” He asked when he discerned the boy amid his many reflections.
“I am Haku,” the youth replied, his eyes still captivated by the ice mirror in front of him, “and this is my moon,” he finished his introduction in the same emotionless tone.
Kakashi turned to the side and, in so doing, caught a glimpse of himself. He approached his mirrored image, astonished.
The ice reflected the bleak greys of Europa’s eternal winter, and how flawlessly he blended in. He looked as colorless as the moon that he’d left from the start.
“What is your purpose?”
The youth’s monotone voice was barely audible through the hypnotic trance that Kakashi had fallen into. “My purpose,” he repeated, so quietly that only his reflection could hear.
Suddenly, his odyssey seemed ridiculous to him, and his goal unattainable. The longer he stared at the dreary prospect in the ice mirror, the more convinced he became that he ought to give up and remain there, numb and frozen like Haku.
Procyon whined as the dog stars strode in between Kakashi and his reflection, momentarily breaking the spell. “Take me away from this place,” Kakashi let himself fall forward as the last vestiges of hope fell from his lips.
Sirius caught him on his back and carried him far away from the desolate wasteland of Europa as swiftly as he could. Kakashi nuzzled into his companion’s back as he sought warmth and shivered from doubt. He raised his head, blinked his eyes and curiosity and craving flared in his heart once more.
Io had risen before them. Volcanic plumes painted the moon yellow and orange. Jupiter loomed large behind it, providing a backdrop of swirling clouds in shades of pink and rose. Kakashi smiled at the spectacle, breathless at finding a place in the cosmos that not only met his expectations but exceeded them.
He scanned the surface as they neared it, and saw a woman with long, red hair that flowed like lava behind her as she ran to meet them. Sirius and Procyon touched down, and Kakashi hopped off when she approached. He stared, entranced as she caught her breath. Her cheeks were flushed from running, her deep green eyes sparkled with vivacity, and he thought he’d never seen a lovelier creature.
“Who are you?” He asked eagerly, coming near enough to touch her.
“I am Mei, and I’ve been waiting for you. I mean—” she blushed deeper, “I’ve watched your journey, and I hoped that you would make it here. I knew that you could.”
Her voice rang gentle, melodic, and suited her perfectly. Kakashi’s hand lifted of its own accord to cradle the side of her face in the palm of his hand. Warmth flooded into him at the touch and spread all the way to his extremities. “Welcome to my moon, my shining soldier,” she cooed and leaned into his touch. “I hope that you will find whatever it is that you seek, here.”
“Call me Kakashi,” he said, pulling her close in an embrace, and initiated the first of what he knew would be countless kisses. “I already have found it, Mei, and more.”
The End

Seven Minutes : George Weasley x Reader
Tumblr media
A/N : I felt bad about not updating, so here’s a piece I wrote a while ago.  It’s originally published on my Quotev account, wingsofglass, which you can go check out if you'd like!  I have other stories I’ve written on that account on the book “Harry Potter One-Shots”
I’m currently working on another Tom Riddle x reader request so that’ll hopefully come out next weekend!  Sorry again, my week’s been really tough, and I unfortunately haven’t had any time to write.
Warnings : None, Fluff
Requests are open!  Reblogging is always appreciated!  Thank you for reading!
"Come on (Y/N), it's a party!  Loosen up a bit." Katie grins at you, nudging you a little in the shoulder.  "Besides, it's a new year.  Time to try new things."
You shake your head and roll your eyes a little.  "Please.  Spending seven minutes in a cramped closet is not how I'd like to waste my precious time, thank you very much."  You yawn a bit and stretch out your arms.  "Want anything to drink?  I was going to grab some pumpkin juice."
Katie nods.  "Sure.  Grab me a cup of that too."  She looks at you with a straight face.  "You're going to have to give me something of yours.  That way I'll know you'll come back."
You look at her with an exasperated stare.  "Really?  I'm a Hufflepuff, I'm the most loyal person you'll come about!" You sigh and unclasp the stone necklace that hangs around your neck.  You drop it into her palm. "Be careful with it."
Katie shrugs and returns to chat to one of the twins that sits next to her.  From this angle you can't tell who it is.  You walk over to where the food and refreshments are, and pour yourself two glasses of pumpkin juice.
"(Y/N)!"
You hear your name being called and you look up, quite startled.  It's George.
"You going to put something in the bag?  We're getting ready to play."
"No." You smile.  "It's not my thing."
George almost looks a little disappointed.  "Pity."
You shake your head and look at him with a teasing expression.  "Oh no, not you too?" You scoff.  "It's a stupid game, I don't quite see the whole hype about a make-out session in a stinky closet."
George only smirks at you.  "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were," he pauses in to lean closer to you for dramatic effect, "jealous."
Your eyes widen.  "Jealous?"  A laugh escapes your lips and you smile at George.  "Why's that?"
He only shrugs.  "I wouldn't know."
You rock on your heels and grab onto both drinks.  "Well, as fascinating as this conversation is, I've got to get going back to Katie." You look back down at the pumpkin juice.  "I told her I'd bring her back something to drink."
George grins.  "You Hufflepuffs are too kind for your own good."
You nod and return a matching grin.  "Hufflepuffs are the best."
"Wait."
You turn around once more, one of your eyebrows arched questioningly.  "Yes?"
George sneaks a frantic glance at something or someone behind you, but he soon retains his normal countenance.  "Can you help me with something?"
You look at the two drinks in your hand, and then turn around to look back at Katie.  "Well I really have to go -"
George takes the drinks out of your hands and sets them on the table.  "You know, Katie doesn't much like pumpkin juice anyway."  He grabs a hold of your hand and drags you towards the different areas of the Gryffindor Common Room.
Your eyes widen at the unexpected contact and you smile a little to yourself.  George's hand is warm, a nice sort of warm.  You tell yourself to enjoy this moment, as it's hard to spend time with him considering the two of you are in different houses.  You shake your head and continue following the tall ginger twin.
You both finally stop.  You look at George with a bewildered expression.  "What?"
George sits down on a couch and you take a seat next to him, still unsure to what this is all about.
He looks down at his feet and sighs a little.  "I need help with Astronomy."  He rubs the back of his neck and his ears turn a bit red.  "My mum's gone mad this year, she says if I get another," he grimaces, "well let's just say anything less than a Dreadful, I'm grounded for the summer."
You bite your lip.  "You mean a Troll."
George looks at you with an annoyed expression.  "Yes, (Y/N).  A Troll."
A smile suddenly lights up your features.  "Of course I'll help you!" You feel especially happy inside, knowing that you'll get to see George more, and suddenly you can't help but tease him a little.  "I never thought I'd see the day you'd come crawling to ask me for help."
George glares at you and his ears turn even redder than before.  "It's not like I wanted to.  I just need to pass the bloody class."
The comment strikes hard, and you can feel the smile slipping away from your face.  That hurt, probably a lot more than it should have.  You knew he didn't mean it, but at the same time you can't help wonder if this is what your friendship means to him.  Nothing more than passing a class.
You cover your hurt with a laugh, but it ends up sounding a little more fake than usual.  "Well, I'll see you around Georgie.  You'll be passing Astronomy in no time, the sooner the better.  Less time we'll have to spend together."  You punch him lightly in the arm, and grin at him.  The grin feels strange, it feels foreign on your face.
George's ears begin to return to their original color, and he looks at you with a strange look in his eyes.  "I didn't mean it like that-"
You laugh.  "It's okay.  It was funny." You wave at him and begin to head back to Katie.
You sit down next to her, your body sinking into the plush velvet cushions.  You lean back and cross your legs.
Katie turns her head to look at you and she smiles.  "There you are!"  She points at Fred.  "Shush now, we're about to start."
Fred is tossing the drawstring bag between his hands, and he turns to look at each person with a devilish smirk.  "Last chance, last chance?"
Katie nudges you.  "Sure you don't want to play?"
You roll your eyes.  "Sure. One hundred percent sure."
Fred catches the bag in his hands and his mouth turns up into a grin.  "Seven minutes in heaven.  You know the rules.  Seven minutes with you and a certain someone, in the closet." He winks and strides over towards a girl with blonde hair.  "Ladies first."
The blonde shakes her head.  "I think not."
Katie smiles and turns to look at you with amusement in her eyes.  "That's Alicia.  She's on my quidditch team.  She's super sweet."  Katie turned to whisper something in your ear.  "Rumor has it that Fred has a thing for her."
You frowned.  "But I thought he liked Angelina."
Katie shrugs.  "Yeah.  Just a rumor.  I'm not quite sure what's happening with the Weasley boys."
Fred sighs and digs his hand into the bag.  "Your loss." He picks something out of the bag.  It's a galleon.  Fred rolls his eyes.  "Whose is this?"
George perks his head up and grins sheepishly.  "Mine."
You snicker to yourself.  "Since when do we put coins in the bag?"
George walks into the closet, but not without clapping his brother on the back and winking.
Fred reaches into the bag again and pulls out something gold.  It's only a small flash, but you move your head, trying to get a glimpse of it clearly.  You feel for your necklace, and your stomach plummets.
Fred holds his palm up and he dangles that familiar gold locket in between his fingertips.  "And the lucky winner who gets to join my dear twin, is?" He searches throughout the rest of the people in the room.
You scowl and your eyes narrow.
Fred frowns at the lack of a response and he looks a little amused.  "Is George really that awful?" He laughs a little to himself.  He tosses the locket between his palms.
You stand up.  "That's mine." Your hand stretches out and you look at Fred blankly.  "Give it here."
Fred whistles and tosses you the necklace and you catch it, attaching it back around your neck.  "I expected more of a reaction, to be honest." He says, his freckles dotting his cheeks.  "We're identical, and I'm pretty attractive."
You roll your eyes.  "Well I didn't put my necklace in the bag."
Fred shrugs.  "Sorry.  We have exactly the right amount of people now so you sort of have to go."  He turns to whisper something under his breath, something only you can hear.  "Plus a little birdie told me he has a bit of a thing for you."
Your cheeks flush and you glare at the ginger twin.
He raises his eyebrows and his voice returns to it's normal tone.  "So what will it be?"
You scowl and clench your fists. "Fine. I'll go.  But this has nothing to do with anything."  You walk towards the closet with a wrinkled nose and heavy breaths.  You pass by Katie and glower.  "Traitor."
She waves at you.
You grab onto the closet door and pull it open, shutting it with a slam.  The room is dark, and you take a step towards the left side.  You bump into someone, George, and he mutters an awfully loud "ouch".
"Oh please.  That didn't hurt at all."
George's eyes widen and he squints his eyes to see in the dimly lit room.  "(Y/N)?"
You sigh and move him to the right so you can stand somewhere to his left.  "Me.  Surprise!"
George rubs the back of his neck.  "I thought this was a quote unquote stupid game with snogging in stinky closets."
"I was tricked." You run a hand through your hair.  "I thought we could get to work on that astronomy tutoring." Your voice is cool and you look anywhere but George.
You can feel his gaze burning against you and you can just feel him urging you to look towards him and away from your feet.
"(Y/N) -"
"Astronomy is a natural science that studies celestial objects and phenomena.  In the case of Jupiter, we're studying the moons."  You bite your lip and your fingers tremble a little.  "Europa's surface is mainly ice -"
"(Y/N), listen."
You shake your head and continue.  "Europa's surface is mainly ice, water ice, and it has twice as much water as we do.  On Earth.  Io -"
"I didn't mean to hurt you," George murmurs finally, interrupting you.  "I didn't mean to snap."  He looks at you with eyes that are soft and vulnerable.
You shut your eyes.  "Io is the innermost moon and it's very volcanically active -"
George's fingers come to rest on your shoulder and he shakes you, just a little. "Shut up."
You finally look at him, and you struggle to keep your face calm.  "I wouldn't want to waste any of your time.  We're being forced in here together, we might as well start learning."
"I don't want to learn about astronomy now.  I want to learn more about you.  I want to be with my friend."
Why did he have to be well, George Weasley?  George Weasley with his perfect ginger hair and warm eyes and voice that melts off his tongue like molten honey and soft touches like little bundles of clouds.  You try to forget about the way you feel when you meet his gaze, like everything around you blurs into little bits of color and all that matters is just you and him.
"Is that what we are? Friends?"
George looks at you with bewilderment.  "I've known you since we were little.  Of course we're friends."  He turns to look down at the ground, and his voice comes out quieter.  Laced with hope.  "What did you want us to be?"
You can feel your pulse rising, but you shake your head.  "I-I... I'm afraid you're becoming a little too cool, Mr. Popular." You force a grin.  "It sounds like I'm not cool enough for you to hang out with anymore." Your voice is teasing.
"What're you getting at?"
You sigh.  "George, we're two different people than who we were when we were younger.  We've both grown.  I've changed.  Hell, you've changed."
George shakes his head.  "That's not true.  I know you're still the same." He steps closer to you.  "You've just gotten better at hiding it."
You look up at him with large eyes.  "That's, that's not -"
George only nods. "It is.  You're still kind.  And caring, and loyal.  You've gotten so much more funny and sarcastic, don't know how that could have happened," he grinned, "and you still have that temper that only comes second to my mum's." His grin softens into a smile and his eyes meet yours.  "And you're sensitive behind all that.  Still."  The way he looks at you, the way it feels as if he's searching through you, makes you look away and close your eyes.
"Since when did you become such the sentimentalist?"
George looks like he wants to say more, but then the door to the closet opens and you turn to squeeze his hand.
"Sorry Georgie.  Time's up." You walk out of the closet and escape the Gryffindor Common Room.
George chases after you and he finally catches up to you as you walk up a moving staircase.  He grabs onto your hand and pulls you a little so you turn to face him.  He's a little breathless, you look beautiful.  The candlelight from the castle illuminates your skin and your eyes seem to sparkle.  He loves the way you smile and the way you laugh, and he knows that although you don't understand, you're the most gorgeous person he's ever had the privilege to like.  To love.
You bite your lip and stare at him softly.  "George," you sigh.  You walk up the rest of the stairs and try to not feel the obvious warmth that travels up your fingertips from your hand that is clearly grasped in his.
George steps closer to you and suddenly you are very much aware of the golden flecks in his eyes and the freckles that dance across his cheeks and nose and forehead.
"I wanted to do this earlier, but I know you don't very much care for closets."
He leans his head against yours, and you suck in a breath as you realize what's happening.  You can't form words, you can't move, you can't breathe.  But then again, you don't quite want to move.  You can feel his breath against your face and your heart is pounding and beating frantically.
When his lips meet yours it's like something of your dreams.  His hands are cupping your cheeks and you can feel the cool stone against your back as you step back towards the castle wall.  His lips are soft and slightly chapped, and you can feel everything.  He smells like mint and late nights by the fireplace.
He pulls away and your eyes flutter open lazily.  You smile at him shyly and look down at your feet, your fingers flying up to fiddle with your necklace.
George looks at you with fondness, and he wraps his arms around your waist.  You look up at him and he leans down to kiss you again.  But this time you are ready.  You bring your hands around his shoulders and kiss him back, softly, moving your own lips against his.  You can feel him smile and that in turn makes a grin spread across your face.  You shiver a little as the cool stone presses against your back even more than before and the kiss seems to become just a little more real.
George's nose nuzzles against your own.
"So what does this make us?" You ask curiously.
He shrugs.  "I don't know.  I'd like for you to be my girlfriend.  But I don't mind just going wherever this takes us."
You grin.  "I'd like for you to be my boyfriend."
George laughs softly.  "Of course you do.  I've been told I'm incredibly irresistible."
You pull out of his grasp and grab his hand.  "Of course you have."

Eight Tracks Home: Jupiter
A story of eight personified planets, some moons, a ghost, and one way home
The Milky Way has been turned into ‘embodiments,’ spirits of each planet put into a living breathing humanoid vessel
Here’s everything you need to know about their leader: Jupiter
Jupiter/Geegee
Embodiment name: Geegee (which stands for Gas Giant)
Personality: rough around the edges, larger than life and pretty damn grim after all these years, tough as nails and twice as fierce
can come off as rather bullish or even mean to her other planets, but would run in front of a bullet for them all (literally), is the leader of the group, can crack jokes but mostly Dark Ones combined with Dad jokes
Big Hero Complex + BIG Butch Energy, a force of nature unto herself she is trying very hard to hold everything together
Appearance: true to her planet, she has orangish skin and various scars leading up and down her body, huge as hell and built like a freight truck she is the most powerful and RIPPED of the planets
Has short brown crew-cut hair and dark orange eyes
she has several piercings including snake bites and an eyebrow piercing, she wears a grey tank top and cargo pants with black boots, her arms are covered in colorful impact tattoos (multi-colored stellar circles)
Relationships:
Earth- Geegee is technically her guardian and will do anything to make sure that earth continues to thrive, sort of lovingly bullies her to do so; silent but ever present for the young earth
Saturn- HER EX, Saturn and Geegee used to be in a long-term marriage but it ended when they couldn’t get past their own stubbornness and isolationist tendencies; Saturn sometimes reverts to off-highhandedly (sometimes knowingly) flirting with her which sends Geegee into a momentary Gay Stupor
Io- Jupiter has a lot of hecking children, both adopted and her own, Io is one of the most prominent ones, she feels like Jupiter puts the needs of the universe and her own hero complex above being there for her many damn children
rebellious and often feeling like she’s being pulled apart, she is the most active of the children
Europa- also has complicated feelings toward her mom, but is more soft and patient, most notable for her ability to possibly sustain life and Jupiter dotes on her a little more than the others
Others- Jupiter has a general ‘get your shit together’ attitude towards mars (she considers him a slacker) and a very tired/weary relationship with Venus who keeps flirting with her daughter Io to spite her
Religion- Jupiter is a strong believer in the Sun and the idea She will guide them home in the end
Send me asks, prompts, or questions about my silly planet AU!

Partners In Crime
Pairing: Peter x OC
Summary: Peter puts himself in trouble for defending his classmate in class from transphobic teacher. They both get detention, and some churros.
Word count: 1.3k
A/N: This is a trans boy Peter x non-binary OC story. Not particularly romantic but just some casual fluff. The OC goes by ze/hir pronoun :)
“Y’know you didn’t have you drag yourself into this.”
Peter withdraws his sight from the small television on the desk, slowly turning to his classmate on the left, who isn’t paying attention at Captain’s speech about responsibility at all. He blinks his drowsy eyes, struggling to support himself up.
“Uh,” he shrugs, “s’not a big deal. I mean- it is a big deal though. The way Mr. Crawson talked to you was simply awful. Anyone who saw that situation would speak out for you.”
“Not everyone.” Hir voice fades a bit, but the smile on hir face widens. “There were a full class of people, but here’s only you and me.”
Peter grins back, but looking away as he immediately feels silly. “Sometimes people just, well, need some more courage… I guess? Like, it was very badass of you… ‘gender isn’t real and you’re free to suck my ass!’ you really snapped him there.” He recollects, doing a cutting throat gesture.
“Ah-ha! You should look at his face!” Ze burst into laughter, then quickly hides it with a few coughs when ze spots Mrs. Lambert raising her eyebrow. “You’re not bad yourself. ‘Gender is as fake as that toupee on your bald top.’ Shots fired, Parker.”
“Ha, call me Peter though.” Peter straightens his spine, doodling absently on his notebook. “I just realized we never properly talked to each other before? S’kinda crazy. You’re—uh…M-M…”
“Mneme. M-N-E-M-E. Nee-mee.” Ze writes down the letters on the corner of the desk, “Or you can call me Jupiter XL, I won’t mind. Sounds like a code name.”
The topic of Captain’s speech has changed to about respecting the elders. But neither of them are listening. “Woah, it’s a moon of Jupiter?” Peter whispers with excitement, “I only remember Io and Europa—sorry that I sound dumb. There are like, uh, 60 of them?”
“69.” Mneme winks, “I discovered the name from Greek Mythology—the ancient Muse of Memory. I love it. Better than my dead one.”
“That’s dope. I love names with stories” Peter coos, starting to doodle the solar system. Mneme extends one hand to draw a Saturn that is twice bigger than Peter’s Sun. “So, what about your story then?” ze says, coloring the planets with glitter pens.
Peter’s hand stops, hesitates, “uhh…” his pencil hovers above the Earth, “I’m not really a guy with a lot of stories.”
“Oh c’mon, Pete, you got the most amazing internship that makes every kid in the school wish they were you.” Mneme throws the eraser at his direction, “You’ve probably had after tea with Tony Stark, just right by the window of his office, you talk about schools and he calls you son.”
“Actually he calls me under—ugh, actually I don’t see him often. The CEOs don’t come down from their office to talk to the interns, y’know—”
“But you’re friends with Spider-Man aren’t you?” Mneme interrupts with an excited tone, “The hero of Queens and the Star of Midtown? I saw it on the news, the accident in the monument. You were there too, weren’t you? I keep imagining what if I was there, in the broken elevator, ready for my death, thinking ‘bout what if they misgender me on the newspaper… then suddenly this tight-suited fella appears and save the day! That’s like the most dramatic plot twist ever. I’d probably be so excited that even give him a kiss—if he’s comfortable with that, o’course.”
An awkward smile appears on Peter’s face, but Mneme is too concentrating on drawing a Spider-Man mask to notice. “Well… yeah, yeah he’s really a cool guy.” Peter mumbles, rubbing his eyes, “I think… I just think it’s cool that he uses his power to… you know… like… save the little guys, and do good things. It’s-it’s really nice I think.”
“Yeah? A brave guy with a big heart. I love that guy.”
“Haha,” Peter lets out a dry laughter in a weird pitch, “he wasn’t really that brave though…he was actually pretty scared when he was on the top of the monument. Uh, I mean, he told me so...”
“Bravery doesn’t equal to being fearless.” Mneme takes a break from the drawing, tilting hir head. “The real courage is that despite your fear, you still choose to face it because you know you’re doing the right thing.”
Peter beams a shallow smile, “Woah, you should sign that on my yearbook.”
“Definitely will!” Mneme chuckles and points at television with hir pen. They aren’t even quite sure what Captain is on about now. “Look at that guy. I dunno everything about his story, but m’sure he got his reasons to choose his own path. I don’t think he’s a criminal. At least I don’t believe so.”
“Yeah.” Peter nods, and swallows the ‘except he kinda beat me the hell up’ down to his stomach. “I wish I could be like that because… I feel like m’just scared and can’t even tell what exactly is the ‘right’ thing to do.” He leans backward to the chair, staring at Captain’s smiley face. “A few months ago, I tried to impress Mr. Stark with my hard work. I thought as long as I put enough effort in it, he’d see my ability eventually… But all I did instead was mess everything up. And I even lost my internship temporarily… luckily he decided to give me a second chance. Yet still… it makes me wonder if I’m really ready for the bigger challenge.”
The confession is followed by a moment of silence that makes his stomach strains. But then he hears Mneme’s voice again. “Pete, you’re only 15. And sometimes you just gotta allow yourself to make mistakes. You really think Stark or Captain America don’t make mistakes like yours?”
“I understand that. But it still feel pretty much…defeating when it happens.” Peter sighs, “I don’t know, I feel like m’kinda eager to get approved. Maybe that’s where it goes wrong.”
“Eh-eh, you gotta stop right there, baby boy. There’s nothing wrong with expecting approval from others.” Mneme pouts and wiggles one finger, “You just have to remember that no matter how people see you, you’re still valid. Alright? Anyone who disagree owes you 5 billion, and they better turn on their locations.”
That finally makes Peter laugh. He presses his fist against his lips to cease the giggles, “You’re such a gem, Jupiter.”
“Jupiter XL, get my code name right, Spidey XX.”
“Spidey XX? Seriously?”
“Why not? M’sure your wall-climbing friend will appreciate that.” Mneme throws hir hands up, “Picture this: you’re sitting in the Avenger’s headquarter, giving orders to your crime-fighting partner. ‘Wall-Climber, this is Spidey XX, there are 10 bad guys on the east side of the building, you copy that?’ ‘Spidey XX, this is Wall-Climber. 10 bad guys, east side, got it. Over.’ ”
“That’s literally not gonna happen!” Peter’s cheeks redden, “Because I—”
“Kids! You’re here for punishment, not for parties!”
Mrs. Lambert’s holler almost makes them jump from the chairs. Neither of them notice that she has been standing by their desks for a while. “Apparently this is too easy for you kids and y’all haven’t really learned from your lesson yet. That only means—” she starts writing rapidly on her clipboard as the two kids exchange looks with each other, “—one more week of detention. Don’t give me that look! And think about what you’ve done wrong. Now finish your assignments and I don’t wanna hear any noise again!”
As soon as she turns around, Peter quickly glances at his partner in crime, who’s sticking hir tongue out behind hir notebook.
“Pssss,” Peter whispers, taking a peek at Mrs. Lambert’s direction, “Have you tried the best sandwich in New York? Delmar’s sandwich? We should totally get some later.”
“Hell yeah, Spidey XX.” Mneme gives him a peace sign, then narrows hir eyes. “What were you gonna say earlier? Right after you said, ‘it’s not gonna happen’.”
But Peter only replies with an innocent smile, “It’s classified, Jupiter XL.”
Ending note: Thank you so much for reading! This is my first Peter fic, I hope you enjoy this small piece I attempt. Also apologies if there is any possible mistake since I clearly haven’t beta’d the fic yet haha. If you have any idea, I’ll really love to hear from you :) Xx

Watchmen Episode 5 Easter Eggs Explained
https://ift.tt/2QsFTwo
Detective Looking Glass' origin story is revealed, and Adrian Veidt's plan becomes more clear in Watchmen episode 5.

This episode contains Watchmen episode 5 spoilers.
About halfway through Watchmen episode 5 "Little Fear of Lightning," you should know that we've officially hit and surpassed the midpoint of the series. HBO's Watchmen only consists of nine episodes (not twelve), so it's time for the pieces to start falling into place and for some mysteries to be revealed. In this case, the mystery is why Wade Tillman/Det. Looking Glass is such an odd guy and why he behaves the way he does, while we also take giant steps towards untangling the mystery of Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias and whatever the Rorschach-influenced 7th Kavalry have been getting up to. If you spotted something I missed, let me know in the comments or hit me up on Twitter, and if it checks out, we'll get this updated.
Now, let's get to work. The clock is ticking...
HOBOKEN
- The episode opens in Hoboken, N.J. minutes before midnight on Nov. 1, 1985. You can hear a radio broadcast announce that the Doomsday Clock has been set to 1 minute to midnight, just as it was by this point in the book.
- Hoboken is located across the Hudson River from Manhattan and lines up almost exactly where the giant squid materialized, died, and detonated a psychic shockwave that killed millions. Hoboken’s proximity to Manhattan means it would be right in the path of that blastwave, just as residents of that city can often see and smell fires on the big island.
read more: Why Does it Rain Squid on HBO's Watchmen?
- Overall, this looks like a reasonable forgery of Hoboken in the 1980s, the buildings are all roughly the same height, and it feels like they’re roughly halfway up Washington St. As the camera pulls back from the carnage at the fair, you can spot Frank Sinatra Drive. Hoboken was the birthplace of Frank Sinatra, and his music features prominently throughout this episode.
- Hoboken was a haven for record shops back in the day, but I’m not sure if ZigZag Records ever existed there. However, the sign for that record shop here bears a strong resemblance to the defunct, departed, but beloved ZigZag Records that used to be located at Brooklyn...two rivers away.
- The pseudo-punks we see in Hoboken (and who terrorize poor young Wade) are the Knot-Tops subculture who featured in the book. One of them is wearing a shirt that says “katies” a reference to the street name for a drug called KT-28 which was used by many members of the gang. I guess they couldn’t get tickets to see Pale Horse at Madison Square Garden that night...not that it did them any good.
- You can spot a poster for the Pink Triangle benefit concert that was also hung on the side of the newsstand in the book.
- The bus that drops off the crew of young Jehovah’s Witnesses, including young Wade Tillman (the future Det. Looking Glass), is #486, but I’m having trouble finding any significance to that number or the numerals it consists of. Similarly there’s a license plate that reads BHS463, but I don’t see any greater significance there.
LOOKING GLASS
- As quickly becomes apparent, this episode is the origin story for Detective Looking Glass. That’s young Wade Tillman (played by Philip Labes) who gets humiliated in the funhouse hall of mirrors right before experiencing an excruciatingly traumatic psychic tragedy. It’s no wonder he’s a little bit off back in the present. His mask is more than just a convenient affectation, it’s made of something apparently called “reflectatine,” a material believed (probably just by crackpots) to protect from psychic blasts. It explains why we’ve seen him eating with his mask on at home. It’s also revealed that he lines his baseball cap with the stuff. It’s basically a “tinfoil hat.”
- Wade’s trauma has informed every aspect of his life, and keeps an alert system from a company called “Extra Dimensional Security.” Incidentally, the fact that they still deliver comprehensive print catalogs is another fun little reminder that the internet isn’t a thing in this world.
- Looking Glass is fond of eating cold baked beans right out of the can with his mask half rolled up, a habit he shares with Rorschach.
- Wade’s ex is named Cynthia Bennett, but she is an original creation for the show. Their relationship lasted seven years, and Wade makes the obvious mirror joke.
- Wade runs a support group for survivors dealing with trauma after the squid attack (there’s a pamphlet called EDA and You, presumably that stands for ExtraDimensional Anxiety). He greets new members by asking if they’re a “friend of Nemo.” Captain Nemo was a creation of seminal science fiction author Jules Verne and appeared in the novels 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and The Mysterious Island. He was notorious for doing battle with giant squid.
- It sure seems like Wade is probably gonna be taking ye olde dirt nap after this episode, but we’ll have to wait to find out. But we do hear the ominous ticking of a clock during the part of the episode when he’s exploring the warehouse, and we last heard that in the leadup to Judd Crawford’s death. So it might be a tell that if you hear the clock ticking, someone’s gonna die.
- Is anyone able to make out the newspaper headline on the wall of Wade’s bunker? It seems like it has to do with 11/2 and Manhattan, but I can't quite nail the specifics of it.
ADRIAN VEIDT
- On the streets of Hoboken at the start of the episode you can spot someone reading a copy of Tales of the Black Freighter (presumably the same one the kid is reading all through the book), and on the back of it you can see an advertisement for “The Veidt Method.” The Veidt Method was a self-help program “for physical fitness and self-improvement” launched in the ‘80s by Adrian Veidt that was dedicated to “creating a new you” by combining mail away exercise, nutrition, and bodybuilding techniques with philosophy and new age thinking. The letter that greeted applicants contained Veidt’s “all best wishes and encouragement” sign off we heard him use in the letter to the Game Warden in episode three.
- As we see several times throughout the episode, Veidt’s philosophy about getting the world to believe there was a greater threat absolutely worked. It’s brought up in casual conversation, and you can see it in the philosophy espoused at the EDA support group, where they take the squid attack as proof that there are other dimensions.
- Veidt’s “confession” video was recorded on Nov. 1, 1985, minutes or hours before he unleashed the squid attack on New York City (and Hoboken). Redford was shown this video on Jan. 21, 1983, the day after his inauguration (which lines up with the day Bill Clinton was inaugurated in 1993 as well). HBO’s Peteypedia supplemental materials revealed that Veidt was also a major public player in the election of President Robert Redford, although the knowledge of his role in the squid attack never caught on publicly, despite the publication of Rorschach’s Journal.
- Within that video, Veidt refers to using “fear” as a weapon and says “and I am its architect.” This is more than a mere turn of phrase. “The Architects of Fear” was an episode of sci-fi anthology series The Outer Limits. It’s basic story? Scientists decide that the only way to prevent nuclear apocalypse is to convince humanity that we have a common enemy from another world and thus need to put aside our differences. Sound familiar? This story was the source of great friction between Watchmen series editor Len Wein and writer/co-creator Alan Moore, as Wein felt it was too similar to what Moore delivered in the book. The book, however, does reference the intro to The Outer Limits at one point, perhaps as Moore’s way of paying homage to the source.

Veidt also confesses that he has engineered “additional small scale extradimensional events” to keep up the illusion. In other words, the squid rain we first saw in episode one and that has been referenced throughout the series now has an official explanation.
- Veidt appears to be wearing the hieroglyph for the Eye of Horus on his makeshift spacesuit, a symbol of both protection and power.
- Is Veidt (and his prison) on a moon of Mars or Jupiter? While Mars is the obvious choice, there appears to be ice on the surface of that moon, and neither of Mars' moons (Phobos and Deimos) have them. On the other hand, two of Jupiter's moons, Io and Europa contain both oxygen and water in sufficient quantities that you could imagine Dr. Manhattan successfully synthesizing the environment necessary to create life. The music playing during his little lunar adventure is Claude De Bussy's "Clair de Lune."
- Veidt appears to write “Save Me” or “Save Me D” using the bodies of his servants. “Save Me Dr.” perhaps?
- The “memory pills” are called Nostalgia, which was also the name of a perfume line by Veidt in the 1980s. Are these a later creation by Trieu Industries rather than Veidt?
DR. MANHATTAN
If there’s any doubt lingering in your mind, it almost certainly appears that the bizarre environment Veidt has been imprisoned in is something of Dr. Manhattan’s creation. His outburst (and the Game Warden’s agreement) that “your god has abandoned you” would seem to be a reference to that. Specifically, right before he left Ozymandias (and our plane of existence, seemingly) in the book, Dr. Manhattan speculated on the possibility of creating life of his own.
RORSCHACH AND THE 7TH KAVALRY
- That giant red eye symbol we see painted on the wall of the warehouse that Wade explores will probably be significant later on, but it does also kind of resemble the squid eye in the book, doesn’t it?
- When Senator Joe Keene talks about being taken aside and shown a tape that reveals the truth about the world (in this case Adrian Veidt’s “confession” to President Redford), it feels like a bit that legendary comedian Bill Hicks used to do about the Kennedy assassination. OK, to be fair, Hicks did LOTS of bits about the Kennedy Assassination but this one from his Rant in E-Minor album is the most relevant…
“I have this feeling that whoever is elected president...when you win, you go into this smoke filled room with the 12 industrialist capitalist scumfucks who got you there. And you're in this smokey room, and this little film screen comes down ... and a big guy with a cigar goes, "Roll the film." And it's a shot of the Kennedy assassination from an angle you've never seen before ... that looks suspiciously like it's from the grassy knoll. And then the screen goes up and the lights come up, and they go to the new president, 'Any questions?' 'Uhhh...just what my agenda is.'"
- It would appear that Judd Crawford was legitimately involved with whatever nonsense was going on with 7th Kavalary based on his relationship with Joe Keene. But neither he nor Keene seem to actually be part of the 7th Kavalry nor their generally racist mission statement. But also note that we learned from HBO’s supplemental materials that the painting in the Crawford home was actually gifted to Judd’s grandfather as a token of esteem within the order (from an ancestor of Senator Keene's it would appear), so it’s still possible that the hood and robe discovered at the conclusion of episode two belonged to his grandfather.

- The Kavalry are experimenting with teleportation, which uses some of the same energy that Dr. Manhattan gives off, hence the blue glow you see when basketballs materialize. They’re using a CX924 Teleportation Window from The Institute for Transdimensional Studies, also referenced in the book.
- Anyone else think our actual real world President thinks it’s called “squid pro quo?”
- Can anyone name the country song in the bar? This isn't trivia, I'm seriously asking.
HOODED JUSTICE
This week’s episode of American Hero Story: Minutemen offers a graphic depiction of the romantic relationship between Hooded Justice and Captain Metropolis. The pair were indeed lovers in the "real" world of Watchmen.
MISCELLANEOUS STUFF
- That’s HBO’s The Sopranos star Michael Imperioli in the New York City tourism company’s “Why We Came Back” commercial. We haven’t heard much about what happened to NYC after a disaster with a body count the size of ten 9/11s (and it’s worth noting that throughout the episode the squid event is referred to as “11/2”). Needless to say, it seems to have not yet recovered, even 30 years later. It does make me wonder how different a show like the New Jersey-set The Sopranos would be in this world.
Within that commercial you can see folks waxing about Broadway shows while holding a Playbill for something called “Oppenheimer.” J. Robert Oppenheimer was a key figure in the development and design of the atomic bomb. I wonder if Oppenheimer is the Watchmen universe’s Hamilton.
- Another product being focus grouped at the company Wade works as cover is a breakfast cereal called “Happy Harry’s Smiley-O’s.” Happy Harry was the proprietor of Happy Harry’s Bar and Grill, a dive by any standards and one frequented by members of the underworld. It was a favorite place for Rorschach to beat information out of suspects and their associates.
- What is the name of the genetics company? Their slogan is something about offering “the splice of life” which is hilarious. And of course, the field of genetic experimentation was greatly advanced by Adrian Veidt in the book, as evidenced by his super-pet, a genetically engineered lynx named Bubastis.
- In this world, Steven Spielberg won Oscars for a movie called Pale Horse, about the tragedy in New York City on 11/2 and its aftermath. The scene described, with the little girl in the bright red coat in a movie that was otherwise filmed in black and white, means that this may have replaced Schindler’s List in Spielberg’s filmography in the Watchmen universe.
- Each episode gives us another little glimpse at what happens when every liberal hobbyhorse policy is enacted. To that end, tobacco is now contraband in this world.
- This isn’t a reference to anything in particular, but it’s worth pointing out that Red Scare eats Cheetos with a fork. On the surface, this may seem ridiculous, but if you don’t want to get orange powder all over your fingers and everything else, it makes perfect sense. I once saw someone eating Doritos out of the bag with a pair of chopsticks on a New York City subway, and that all makes so much more sense now.
- Panda is overheard saying that churches are “basically all the same.” This could be another sign about the low regard religion is held in the Watchmen universe, similar to the casual atheism Cal displayed in episode four.

Note
Kind of tangentially related to your Jupiter's army post but I hc that Jovians lived on the Galilean moons and people from each moon were known for a different Jovian trait. Io for strength and the others for beauty and elegance, generous hospitality, and leadership skills. Sailor Jupiter was supposed to embody all four but esp strength, being from Io. Question is which is which. Any ideas? What do you think of my hc? What four traits (or 67) would you assign to Jovians?
A couple of things first, 1) I am greatly enjoying that some people already have done stuff with Jupiter’s moons or want to take the idea and run with it. And I say, RUN FAST.
2) I decided I should do more than just my normal shit posting ‘cause I like this idea enough for it to go somewhere, but I am tempted to say it somehow involves a intermoon bake off to determine what traits Jupiter is bestowed. :>
3) Thank you for asking so we can talk about this more! Seriously guys go write some fic and draw some drawings~ ♥
Right now I’m back and forth on structure and if I want any past there are 67 female warriors lining up behind their princess. But I think I like the idea of the Galilean moons being her main retainers…handmaidens…whatever terminology suits best, while the remaining 63 are her personal guards.
I like the idea of embodying a trait that each of the Galileans represents and I’m wondering if they are selected for their posts based on who exhibits that trait best or who looks most like Jupiter. I greatly enjoy handmaidens being used as decoys and the deep sisterhood usually depicted between them, but I also think it would be kind of unnecessary to give Jupiter a decoy. I think she’s a warrior foremost, with a presence that can’t be replicated, so it makes more sense to me that instead of having a decoy, she has the Galileans visible at her side and 63 women waiting in the shadows.
Using Mako as a base, even though she may be nothing like her past self, I’m going to pick Strength, Loyalty, Elegance, and Generosity as the four main traits (but seriously anyone chime in here).
Io - I’m inclined to give Io strength as well, primarily because Jupiter’s castle is named Io and Io was the first moon discovered, and strength is arguably Jupiter’s main trait. Her mythology links her to cows or ox, so Io could have a reputation of being a charging ox on the battle field.
Europa - So Europa’s story has her being ferried away by cow!Zeus for touching his cow butt, so I have decided she and Io are lovers. Her story is linked to the constellation of Taurus, so I’m using the astrology traits of Taurus (reliable, patient, practical, devoted, responsible) to associate her with loyalty.
Ganymede - Most of his story is him being so beautiful that Zeus gave him lots of stuff and made him the constellation Aquarius. This in mind, Ganymede is the most popular of the 67 and receives many affections from her fellow warrior sisters. The astrology traits for Aquarius may not be best for representing generosity, but whatever close enough.
Callisto - Her basic myth is she’s very pretty and was turned into a bear. I love the idea of a being chased down by an elegant bear (seriously she pulls a bear mask over her face and elegantly flies at you), so she gets to be elegance.

FebruarOC Day 3: Calipsa
Calipsa could count on one hand the number of times she had been at a loss for words.
The first: When Eric had kissed her. Admittedly, they had been close since childhood as the children of the queen and one of her advisors. But even as they grew up and duty tried to pull them apart, they stubbornly clung together. Therefore, when Eric finally kissed Calipsa under the moonlight, it only came partially as a surprise. At the very least, it was a pleasant one.
The second: When they had finally learned who exactly their father was. For years, the rumors had been circling about Jupiter; The general consensus was that he was too strange to be human, even looking past his golden eyes. But even the rumors couldn’t prepare Calipsa and her siblings for the news that their father was the last of the Celestials, the ancient race of immortals who had ruled Astral before they were born.
Hand in hand with that announcement was the revelation that, since Pandora and Jupiter didn’t know if their children were also immortal, Yavin would not inherit the throne after Pandora. Instead, Pandora would choose Eric as her heir, to ensure the throne would not be in potentially immortal hands.
Calipsa wished she had understood then the ugly look on her brother’s face when he whirled out of the room.
The third: Yavin’s assassination attempt. Calipsa had known Yavin and Europa were plotting something. She never saw her brother anymore without fire in his gaze, and Europa hardly left his side.
One night, she woke to Io by her bedside, golden eyes wild. “You have to stop them,” was all that Io would say. Even when Calipsa pressed for details, Io just repeated the same phrase before abruptly darting out of Calipsa’s room.
But even with all the warnings, Calipsa could have never guessed just how far Yavin would go to reclaim what he thought was his birthright. She never thought Europa would poison their mother while Yavin attempted to murder Eric in his sleep, or that Io would disappear the same night leaving behind only a note apologizing for being unable to tamper with fate.
Calipsa thought she had known her siblings. But standing in the aftermath, she had to admit to herself that maybe she had never known them at all.
And now, the fourth time: Eric proposing to her, in the same gardens, at the same fountain where he had first kissed her. Calipsa wished the question didn’t feel like he’d taken a knife and driven it into her.
After a long moment, when Calipsa showed no sign of responding, Eric spoke again. “Cali?”
Calipsa tore her gaze away from him, instead focusing on her hands, twisting in her lap. “I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I—I can’t.”
“Okay.” Eric stood from his crouched position and sat next to Calipsa on the edge of the fountain. The ring was quietly slipped back into his pocket. “May I ask why? I thought…” He trailed off, hesitantly reaching out as if to take Calipsa’s hand but second guessing the action.
“I do. I do care—I do love you Eric, I just—” Calipsa paused, taking a moment to breathe and compose herself. “Do you know why Mother chose you as her heir?”
“I don’t,” Eric answered. “She never told me, and I never wanted to push the issue. Especially not after Yavin…”
“Tried to kill the both of you,” Calipsa finished. “So she never told you about Father.”
“No.”
Calipsa nodded, keeping her eyes focused on her lap. “My father is the last of the Celestials. Or was, I suppose. I believe he left Astral after Mother’s death.”
“Oh,” Eric breathed. “And you…”
“We don’t know.” Calipsa shrugged. “But Mother didn’t want to take the risk of us inheriting Father’s immortality and Astral’s throne.” She let out a humorless laugh. “She was probably right to deny Yavin, at any rate.”
“Is that why you can’t? Because you don’t want to go against your mother’s wishes? Because you don’t have to be queen if you marry me, if you don’t want to.” At Calipsa’s startled glance, Eric finally committed and grabbed her hand. “I love you Cali. And I’m willing to work out whatever loopholes necessary so you can keep your promise to your mother and marry me.”
Calipsa felt once again like something had driven all the air from her lungs. She looked at their joined hands, then squeezed her eyes shut. “I can’t,” she repeated. “Eric, if I am immortal, I refuse to pass that curse onto my children.”
“Cali.” Eric’s free hand cupped Calipsa’s cheek, turning her to face him. “Cali, look at me.”
Calipsa opened her eyes. She was glad that tears were blurring her vision, because she didn’t think she could handle seeing Eric upset.
“If your mother could get away with announcing me as her heir, ignoring her four children who should have had more right to the throne than me, then I’m sure nobody will bat an eye if I adopt my niece as my heir.”
Calipsa blinked, her vision clearing just enough to see Eric’s honey-brown eyes watching her gently. “I—What?”
“You don’t have to be queen, if it means obeying your mother’s wishes,” Eric told her. “We don’t have to have children, if you’re afraid of cursing them with immortality. But I still want you by my side as my wife, not just because you think you need to protect me from your brother.”
Calipsa let out a strangled laugh.
“Think about it, okay?” Eric turned her hand palm-up in her lap. He pulled the ring out again and set it in her palm, then curled her fingers around it. “Just take some time. If you think of any other objections, let me know so I can try and figure out another loophole to make you more comfortable with the idea of marrying me.” Calipsa laughed again at that and was rewarded with one of Eric’s brilliant smiles. “Just promise me you’ll think about it.”
Calipsa nodded. “I will.”
“Okay.” Eric pulled her close and kissed her gently on the forehead. “I’ll leave you to it then. I love you Cali.” With that, he stood and walked away, heading for the entrance back into the garden maze.
Calipsa looked down at the ring in her hands, turning Eric’s words over in her mind. She supposed she shouldn’t be surprised that he had countered all of her arguments so easily. He’d always been like that, determined to solve every problem he could, and over the years Calipsa had found the trait to be equal parts endearing and exasperating.
This time, endearing won out.
“Eric,” Calipsa called.
Eric paused and turned to look back at Calipsa.
“Yes,” Calipsa said. “Yes, I’ll marry you.”

Celestial Bodies Are Magic and They do Magic Things Together
Ganymede von Sparklefuck sat at her space computer, thinking very deeply about the implications of eternity and the tight glove of fate the universe is enclosed within. But those sorts of thoughts overloaded little Ganymede’s thoughtrealm and she had to make an emergency shitpost on a My Little Pony forum in order to calm down. She made a rude comment on some dude’s commissioned ponysona drawing, stating that she didn’t know whether she should burn down his house or just call the Space Patrol on him. She had clearly owned that suckah. It only took a few minutes before the Original Poster, LARGEm00n, replied. He stated thus;
“I’m going to get you, space girl. You better watch your night-side.”
“Whatever, LOL!” Ganymede said out loud, amused by death threat #4096. Jupiter heard her shout and his voice boomed from downstairs.
“Get to bed, you lot! It’s Thursyear night!”
Ganymede begrudgingly complied. She couldn’t ignore her father’s girth. After checking under the bed for any black holes, Ganymede went to sleep while thinking about cute little ponies. She wished she could be one of those little ponies one day…
On Friyear morning, Ganymede was awoken by her little brother, Io. Ganymede pushed him back into orbit and went downstairs for some brekkie. She took the last of the Coco Comets™, which upset her satellite siblings and a brawl ensued. Europa teased her for liking that pony shit and that was the last straw. Ganymede took her space spoon and shoved it so far up Europa’s ice cap, she felt the impact at her opposite pole. Europa ran away, crying. Ganymede resumed her morning as though nothing had happened. She packed her stuff and spun outside to catch the space bus.
At Solar System High, Ganymede headed to her first lesson all alone. She had no friends at school, even Luna the Loony Lunatic didn’t talk to her. Her only friends were the bronies online. For this reason, she lacked motivation to study and often fell asleep during class. Sitting at her desk and trying to pay attention to the lesson in futility, she glanced across the room. To her surprise, a moon roughly her size was staring back at her. She pretended not to notice, but a few minutes later she looked around again. The other moon was still staring at her, unflinching. This moon had an atmosphere, strangely enough. This was a trait usually reserved for planets who already graduated. Perhaps he was held back a decade or two? The fact that she didn’t know really went to show how little she interacted with her peers. The lesson continued, but Ganymede started to feel uncomfortable. What did he want?
The year carried on until lunchtime. Ganymede still felt nervous and went to the edge of the Kupier Belt to eat alone. The sky was super nice looking all the way out here. The constellations were locked in a heavenly war, but they were so many parsecs away that Emperor Sol couldn’t do anything to dissuade them. Anyway, the battles were effectively a free fireworks display. Ganymede liked to insert her ponysona into her little head cannon of what was going on out there. Her ponysona was a fair, compassionate maiden and her beauty could cause entire kingdoms to rise or fall. Much unlike Ganymede herself, who saw herself as only a dirty little ice-covered rock who lived out in the sticks.
Ganymede felt a bolt of lightning strike on her crusty face when she noticed someone coming her way. She had come here to be left alone, but now someone was heading straight towards her. As they got closer, it became apparent that it was that student with the atmosphere. That guy was probably a creep, but he was also quite the looker. Ganymede decided not to run, just in case.
“Yo, I finally tracked you down, loser.”
“A-actually, Io’s my brother. He’s not here…” Ganymede responded, looking away.
“Io, wha..? No, I mean you, SparkleDreams8888. Don’t fuck with me!” The stranger shouted. Now Ganymede was scared. NOBODY online knew her real identity.
“I don’t know who that is!” Ganymede lied.
“You insulted my ponysona last night and now you need to pay!”
“I… I’m sorry… I didn’t mean it.”
“Do you know who I am now?”
“…No…” Ganymede said. She had flamed so many losers that she couldn’t remember any single victim.
“You can call me Titan.” The moon drew closer to Ganymede, his atmosphere getting dangerously close. “And I still want payment.”
“W-what do you want, exactly?” Ganymede asked, knowing exactly what Titan wanted.
“I want us to share.” Something sparkled on Titan’s surface. Maybe it was pure magic. Ganymede fell for his charm and willingly orbited with him all the way over to an Oort cloud, which was out of bounds. There, they shared a passionate kiss, and Ganymede received some of Titan’s atmosphere. Then, she allowed Titan to impact her crust. The first and second impacts were but fleeting moments of pure ecstasy, while the third impact lasted a lot longer. It was truly a magical de-flowering. Titan was so wild and unrestrained and passionate. The fourth impact never came, for Titan was finished. Both moons collapsed from exhaustion afterwards.
Unfortunately, a passing Space Patrol scout had decided to enter the Oort cloud to take a piss. He spotted the delinquent activity and called for reinforcements. Then he ordered Titan to stay put so the Space Patrol could arrest him. However, Titan had built up some magic and he blasted a ray of simply fabulous energy at the scout. The scout exploded into rainbow crystals, which showered the two lovers and they kissed again. More Space Patrol cadets interrupted the kiss by shooting their space Tasers. Ganymede seized up and couldn’t move. Titan fought against it and blasted some more magic, killing another Space Patrol cadet. The rest of the law enforcement now felt justified in using lethal force. They pulled out their space TAR21s and riddled Titan full of holes. His time was up and he knew it, so he gave the last of his magic to Ganymede.
“SparkleDreams8888, I love you!” Said Titan, his core revealed to the vacuum.
“Ganymede! My name’s Ganymede!” Her ice started to melt and run down her craters.
“I love you, Ganny!” That was the last thing Titan uttered before he scattered into Oblivion for eternity.
Ganymede roared with enough emotional pain to cook a star egg. Her first lover had disappeared all too soon. The magic that Titan donated began to manifest itself on Ganymede. She grew four pink legs and sprouted a long, silky tail. Near the tail, the number eight burned itself into her crust. Ganymede’s dream of becoming a full-blown pony was ever closer! She used the powers of friendship and love to obliterate the Space Patrol forces, sending them to the abyss with her High Impact Sexual Violence attack. Then she made a cute pose as the corpses of her enemies converted into brilliant rainbows. After the space dust settled, she returned to Solar System High and got teased for having weird appendages. Oh well.

The Moon and Planets
The full moon, traditionally known as the “Corn Moon” and “Barley Moon”, will occur worldwide on Monday evening at 10:52 pm EDT. The September full moon always shines in or near the stars of Aquarius (the Water-bearer) and Pisces (the Fishes) – but the modest stars of those two constellations will be all but hidden by the bright moonlight. Full moons always rise around sunset and set around sunrise. They are fully illuminated because, when we turn and face a full moon, the sun is shining on it from behind our head – like the projector in a cinema.
This full moon occurs closest to the equinox this year, which occurred yesterday (Saturday), so this full moon is also the Harvest Moon. On the evenings around its full phase, the moon usually rises 50 minutes later each night. But the shallowly sloping evening ecliptic on the dates around the equinox causes Harvest Moons to rise at almost the same time each night – only delayed by as little as 10 minutes per night, depending on your latitude. This allowed farmers to work into the evening under bright moonlight. It also means that if you drive home from work, or walk the dog, at the same time every evening, you might notice the full moon for several days in a row.

(Above: The waning gibbous moon will pass close above Aldebaran on September 30, 2018, as shown here at 2 am EDT.)
After Monday, the moon will wane and rise later every night. It will continue to move eastward in its orbit, passing through Cetus (the Whale) on Thursday and then crossing Taurus (the Bull) through next weekend. When the moon rises in the eastern sky at about 10 pm local time on Saturday, it will be sitting less than 2 finger widths to the upper right of Aldebaran, the brightest star in Taurus. This will be their second close encounter this month. The moon and star will cross the sky together while the moon’s eastward orbital motion will slowly carry it just above the star. Their minimum separation of 0.5 degrees (a moon’s diameter) will occur around 2 am EDT. At that time, both objects will fit into the field of view of a backyard telescope.
When the nearly full moon rises in the west after dusk, bright Venus will be setting in the west. Those two objects will anchor a chain of bright solar system objects that allows us to roughly define the plane of our solar system arcing across the evening sky. From Venus, jump east to white Jupiter, then yellowish Saturn, reddish Mars, and the moon. The ecliptic, which represents the sun’s path through the stars due to Earth’s orbital motion, also passes through the objects. But the orbital inclinations of Venus, Mars, and the moon have caused those three objects to sit 4-6 finger widths below the mean solar system plane. The sun is on the same plane. During the summer, the very high elevation of the daytime sun results in low night-time planet (and moon) positions. Let’s run down your planet-viewing opportunities for this week…

(Above: The full moon and the bright planets will trace out our Solar system’s plane this week, as shown here on September 24 at 7:50 pm local time.)
Only Venus’ brilliance is allowing us to continue to see it while it sinks into the western evening twilight every night. Tonight, it will set at 8 pm, less than an hour after the sun. In a small telescope, Venus’ disk will resemble a crescent moon, lit only on the sunward side (although your telescope might flip the view). The planet is growing larger in apparent diameter because it is travelling towards the Earth right now.
Jupiter is being carried towards Venus by the westerly motion of the sky, but Venus is outpacing him as she swings towards the sun – so they won’t meet. This week, the two brightest planets are only about 1.4 fist diameters apart.
We are nearly finished with decent telescope views of Jupiter for this year. By the time the sky gets dark at 8 pm local time, the mighty planet will sit only a fist’s diameter above the southwestern horizon. It will set in the west-southwest at about 9 pm local time. Using binoculars, try to see Jupiter’s four Galilean moons (Io, Europa, Callisto, and Ganymede) forming a line to either side of the planet.
Medium-bright and yellow-tinted Saturn will pop out of the darkening southern sky shortly after dusk this week. At that time, it will be about 2 fist diameters above the horizon. The planet will set in the west at around 11:30 pm local time. This summer, the ringed planet has been 5 finger widths to the upper right of the “lid” star of the Teapot in Sagittarius (the Archer). As the sky darkens, even a small telescope should be able to show you some of Saturn’s larger moons, especially its largest satellite, Titan. Using a clock’s dial analogy, Titan will move counter-clockwise this week from a position at 4 o’clock (lower right of Saturn) to 11 o’clock (nearly above Saturn). (Remember that your telescope might flip and/or invert the view. Use the moon to find out how your telescope changes things and keep a note of it, since that will always be the case.)
Mars is the very bright, ruddy coloured, star-like object sitting over the south-southeastern horizon after dusk this week. It reaches a maximum height in the sky of two outstretched fist diameters at about 9:30 pm local time. Then it will set in the west a little before 2 am. It’s still well worth a look, even in a small telescope. Look for a small white oval near the top of its disk. That’s the southern polar cap!
Distant Neptune recently reached opposition, so it is visible all night and almost its closest and brightest for this year. Using a decent quality telescope you can see the very blue planet among the dim stars of Aquarius (the Water-bearer). Look for the magnitude 7.8 planet sitting midway between the modestly bright star Phi (φ) Aquarii and the brighter star Hydor (Lambda Aquarii). It will highest in the sky (best viewing conditions) at about midnight local time, but the bright moon will make it tough to see this week.
Blue-green coloured Uranus is visible from mid-evening until dawn. You can see it without optical aid under very dark skies, but binoculars and telescopes work better, especially with this week’s bright moon. During late evenings, the ice giant planet is located in the eastern sky, about 4 finger widths to the left of the modestly bright star Torcular (Omega Piscium). That star sits a generous palm’s width above the “V” where the two starry cords of Pisces (the Fishes) meet.

Touring Some Small Constellations
Four very small constellations sit high in the southern sky on late September evenings. The easiest one to recognize is Delphinus (the Dolphin). It is composed of four modest stars that form a small, elongated diamond. Two more stars beside the top edge of the diamond form a tail that bends to the lower right of the critter.
About a fist’s diameter to the lower left of Delphinus sits Equuleus (the Little Horse). The constellation only includes his head. It is composed of four stars arranged in an elongated box that is wider at the bottom (the horse’s ears) and narrower at the top (his muzzle). By area, there is only one constellation smaller than Equuleus; that’s Crux (the Southern Cross). But it’s only visible from latitudes south of 25° North.
Sitting about a fist’s diameter to Delphinus’ right is the next smallest constellation in the sky, Sagitta (the Arrow). Its straight line, a palm’s width long, is formed by a line of stars. The arrowhead star is to the upper left, and a close-together pair of stars forms the feathers at lower right.

(Above: The constellations Equuleus, Delphinus, Sagitta, and Vulpecula are high in the eastern sky during evenings in late September. The official boundary lines show that the fox actually extends far to the left.)
Finally, look a palm’s width to the upper right of Sagitta for the bent-stick shape of Vulpecula (the Fox). Although most star charts show Vulpecula as a short constellation, its official boundary actually extends two fist diameters to the upper left, all along the eastern wing of Cygnus (the Swan). Vulpecula includes a famous deep sky object known as the Dumbbell Nebula. It resembles an apple core. And, just a fist’s diameter to the upper right of Sagitta, or three finger widths beyond Vulpecula, sits the dim, but visible coloured double star Albireo, the beak of Cygnus.
Except for the slightly larger fox, each of these small constellations will fit within the field of view of binoculars. Let me know if you spot them!
Keep looking up to enjoy the sky! I love getting questions so, if you have any, send me a note.
