As I sang the last few lines of the bridge I scanned through the crowd until my eyes laid on a certain blonde in the crowd. I could see Yuni silently cheering for me as she danced lightly to the song, Beomgyu was holding his phone probably recording my performance. My eyes landed on another blonde haired, Huening Kai.

For a moment I was in awe by his face expression - there was a look of adoration and awe in his eyes, was that a blush I see on his cheeks? I felt my own cheeks warming up, I quickly looked away.

Somehow my eyes directed me to the blonde who sat at the back row - Kang Taehyun was here. I gave him a nod, acknowledging his presence in the crowd and he nodded back with a lopsided grin.

Still into you!

The song was coming to an end. I put all my all into the last few lines. Beomgyu and Yuni cheered, singing along, catching my attention. I strummed the last note and pointed at their direction. My eyes closed as I sang the last line.

Still into you!

Little did I know I was pointing at Huening Kai. As a result from this and the coincidence of the last line of the song sent the crowd into a roaring of "Oohhh!" and "They're a thing!?". Joshua clapped, seemingly impressed and the crowd calmed down as the girl in blue hair spoke, "Thank you for that performance, please take a seat. We'll be moving on to the next candidate. Mr. Huening Kai?"

I quickly returned the guitar back to its stand and get off the stage, halfway meeting with Huening Kai. His eyes were not meeting mine, no smiles on his face even though he was just smiling just minutes ago. Nervousness was eating him alive. Bumping into his shoulder purposely I whispered, "You'll do great, I know you can."

Huening Kai jumped a little bit but composed himself quickly, giving me a smile, "Thank you."

He adjusted the mic stand's height before speaking into the mic, "Hi, I'm Huening Kai. I'm a self-taught guitarist and I can play the keyboard." His voice was shaking as he began to look around, feeling self-conscious that all eyes were on him. His eyes landed on me. I gestured him to take a deep breath to calm his nerves and he did it before continuing, "For today's audition I'll be singing a song by Green Day."

Joshua gasped, "Green Day!? I love them oh my god. Shimizu, what's his song- 21 Guns?! Oh my, I can't wait- Alright, the stage is yours Huening Kai!"

Joshua clapped enthusiastically as the girl next to him - Shimizu - pushed a button on the portable speaker next to her and the instrumental version of the song began to play. Joshua seemed to like the song and the band, seemingly fit with his black leather jacket and black hair appearance. The intro of the song filled the room and Huening Kai started to feel the rhythm, starting to gain focus.

Beomgyu nudged me in the elbow, leaning near me to whisper "He's been practicing hard, you're gonna be surprised how well he sings," he said, his tone was rather giddy with excitement. And true to what he said, Huening Kai's voice was like honey, like a breath of fresh air. His singing skills clearly honed and not amateur-ish.

He can sing so well, why did he kept this hidden?

Why was he so shy about it when he's obviously talented?

"Wow," was all I manage to say as Huening Kai sang the last verse of the song.

Is it possible to like someone for their singing? It's not weird right?

Perfectly normal, right?

Yeah, of course. He's my friend, of course I'd like him. His singing, I mean, especially if he's this good.

Yeah, that's it.

huening kai likes to sing while showering. save for kai's roommate, nobody actually knows who's been singing in the dorm's shared bathrooms and they never actually tried to find out who. instead they just vibed to it, did their things and be like "oh, the singing dude is here". it never even crossed kai's mind that other people had heard his singjng....

10 - flustered thanks

"You killed it, dude! I told you it'd be a nice choice to sing that song," Beomgyu exclaimed, pulling poor Huening Kai into a headlock.

The audition was over and we were told they'd contact us once the results for band recruitment has been made. As for right now, the attention was on Huening Kai. "You never told me you could sing that well!" I nudged his shoulders playfully once he was released from Beomgyu's headlock. "I mean, pfft, I knew you were gonna pull something out of your sleeves but 21 Guns?!" I chuckled, unable to hold back the awe I had for him after witnessing him sing for the first time.

Huening Kai's face flushed red, averting his eyes to the ground with a sheepish smile on his lips. "It was nothing," he muttered. "Nothing you say?" this time it was Yuni who yelled, almost offended by Kai's humbleness/shyness. "You literally sang the vocals, backup vocals, the drums, the bass - THE WHOLE ENTIRE THING!" Yuni emphasized her points with dramatic waves of her arms.

"Okay, that's a exaggeration. He only did the vocals," Beomgyu raised an eyebrow at her which ensued the two bickering with one another. Huening Kai chuckled, amused. "Yuni's right though," came my reply but only Huening Kai heard me, turning his attention to me with a quizzical look.

I smiled, "You're talented."

"Oh," he muttered, eyes widened slightly. For a moment, he seemed like he forgot to breath before he composed himself.

"Oh! Yeah. Uh- um, yeah. Thanks," Huening Kai nodded, one hand behind his neck as his neck and cheeks grew redder. Eyes fixed to the ground in a flustered panic.

His reactions intrigued me but I decided not to say anything - he already seemed like he was struggling with his confidence to sing for this audition so I didn't want to comment further. At least, he acknowledged my compliments I gave him.

"Oh, right!" I exclaimed, having remembered something. Someone. "Taehyun was here while I was on stage earlier," I stated, Yuni and Beomgyu's attention immediately on me. My eyes searched for Taehyun among the crowd who came but found no traces of the blond. "Taehyun? I don't see him," Huening Kai said. Being the tallest among us, he easily scouted the place.

I let out a huff, disappointed that I couldn't greet him properly and curious why he had come. Did he know that I'd audition today, because the only people who knew were these three friends of mine and my brother. "Odd, but never mind," I shrugged.

Huening Kai's eyes lingered on me for a while but he didn't say anything. "C'mon. Let's go, everyone's leaving," Beomgyu said, leading us out of the audition venue.

taehyun watched her sing. her talent was no doubt honed and her charisma evident. then she pointed at that blond guy she always hand out with. his brows raised, the corner of his lips tugged wider in a grin - interesting, he thought to himself. he left right after her turn was over. after all, his focus was solely on her. for her.

I- just reinstalled the app and saw so many of you wanted to be tagged for the next update of my sk8ter boi Hueningkai fanfic..... I AM SO SORRY FOR BEING INACTIVE I PROMISE I'LL GATHER MY SHIT ASAP AND UPDATE A NEW CHAPTER.

It's been a hard couple of months -almost moved, had several job interviews and whatnot- and I'm finally in a better state of mind. tbh I thought no one would want to read the fanfic, last chapter was in May??? so like I didn't think anyone would still read it BUT I FEEL BAD CZ THERE ARE SOME OF YOU WHO STILL READ THEM.

3.5 - getting recruited

“Yuni, you-!”

“It was you, wasn’t it?” Beomgyu stared back and forth at Huening Kai and the girl who literally just screamed. “Earlier today, the one who bumped into me? With boxes?” Huening Kai asked.

“Please, I’m so sorry! I know I’ve apologized to you but let me apologize again. I wasn’t really looking where I was going! Please don’t be mad or hold a grudge on me, it’s only been a day I’m in this university I don’t wanna have any enemies-,”

Seeing the way she apologized so regretfully, Beomgyu couldn’t help holding back his laugh. Yoongi, who was surprised at y/n’s apology outburst, also chuckled in amusement while Yuni felt bad for not realizing how loud she was talking. She blamed it at the loud crowd in the ramen shop that she couldn’t clearly tell how loud her voice was.

“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to talk out loud like that. Please forgive us,” Yuni said.

Now, it was Huening Kai’s turn to feel flustered and surprised.

“Oh? Oh, no! I’m not mad, I was actually going to apologize to you too because I thought I was the one who bumped into you! I didn’t really noticed that I was in your way because I wasn't looking straight,” he explained to the girls. Yuni and y/n both muttered “Oh, I thought you were gonna…,” and seemed to calm down after hearing the explanation.

“Yeah, I’m not really good with maps and direction so I was actually too focused to look for my dorm building that I didn’t notice you. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to sound angry at you,” Huening Kai laughed a little to make the situation less awkward than it already was.

“It’s alright. I’m sorry too, for overreacting,” y/n replied with a smile, “I’m y/n by the way and that’s my roommate, Yuni. We’re both first years too, why not we become friends?”

Huening Kai beamed at y/n’s suggestion, “Sure, why not! I’m Hueing Kai, but you can call me Hyuka or just Kai is fine. This is my roommate, Choi Beomgyu. He’s a second-year.”

“Oh I remember you,” Yoongi suddenly spoke.

“Huh?” confused, Beomgyu looked at Yoongi who was sitting next to y/n. Yoongi’s face was indeed familiar but Beomgyu hadn’t had a clue where he saw Yoongi before.

“You played the guitar for the winner of my faculty’s talent show last year, didn’t you?”

“Yes, I did. How did you know?”

“I was one of the judges,” Yoongi smiled at Beomgyu’s facial expression as he finally recalled last year’s talent show event. “You played so well I thought you were a student from my faculty,”

“Oh, that’s too much flattery,” Beomgyu said, feeling flustered for suddenly receiving a compliment.

“You should consider joining the band for clubs, I heard they’re opening for an audition for new members. Some of them are graduating soon. Y/n here plays the bass and she’s gonna audition too.”

“No!,” y/n yelled before laughing awkwardly, “I’m not, Yoongi here is just in his silly goofy mood.”

“You play the bass? That’s so cool!”

“Thank you, Hyuka, but I’m gonna audition. I’m kinda scared to do it.”

Yuni, who has been too quiet, rolled her eyes at my words and said, “Oh please. You’ve been playing the bass since forever. If you need company to the audition, I’d be glad to do so.”

“Actually, Kai and I were planning to attend the audition too! Why not we go together?” Beomgyu suggested.

“Wait, me?" Huening Kai pointed at himself, "But I can’t even play the guitar-,”

“Just join us, Kai. We’ll figure it out when we get there," Beomgyu was determined to get him to audition, until....

“Hmm, it’s kinda difficult to join the band if you don’t know how to play an instrument,” Yoongi said. Huening Kai was starting to doubt his roommate’s plan and himself. Sure, he can play the guitar, just a little but his skill wasn’t polished enough to be in band or even to perform live.

That’s what bands do, right? They play instruments like the drum, bass, guitar, and the keyboard. They perform live on stage right in front of people.

Huening Kai had a taste of performing on stage once, and he liked the feeling of it.

He wanted to feel that adrenaline rush again, the buzzing in his ears as the crowd cheered and the tingling feeling on the tip of his fingers as he strummed the string of the guitar.

“Well maybe if Huening Kai can sing, he can try out for the vocalist’s position,” y/n said.

A glimmer of hope.

That’s what Huening Kai saw in y/n’s eyes.

The memory of him performing at the first ever talent show he participated in his final year of high school played at the back of his head.

“I’ll try my best,” with a smile he said and everyone cheered at his decision.

That night, Huening Kai not only gained new friends but he’s also gained two more thing – a sliver amount of self-confidence and a ton of uneasiness.

yoongi ended up paying for everyone's dinner that night, including beomgyu and huening kai. he pretended to act like he was forced to do it but there was good in him. he just wanted to mess with his sister. yuni had looked extra pretty lately in his eyes. wonder what she did, maybe a new hairstyle? yoongi also noticed his sister has been glancing at the blonde boy quite often...

a/n:- almost 1k words... I planned to only limit below 0.6k of words for written chapters... anyways, please excuse if there’s any grammar or spelling errors. I haven’t properly proofread the written chapters. let me know if there’s any grammar or spelling errors, I’ll fix them. what do you think of the chapters so far? :)
