How I Created My Silent Hill Nurse Cosplay
Tumblr media
I wanted to share the process I used to create my Silent Hill nurse cosplay. It required a month of prep, and several days of intensive work to pull off. Below, you can find step-by-step pics and descriptions of how it all came together.
The first step was to purchase the cheapest, all-white dress, hat, tights, and shoes I could possibly find. No reason to spend lots of money when you're about to destroy all the garments.
Tumblr media
These are the four colors of fabric paints I ended up using to create the "rusty" look on the clothes. These colors were entirely guesswork on my part. I don't usually paint, so I wasn't really sure what I was doing.
Tumblr media
I found that adding water and letting the four colors bleed together created a "randomizing" effect on the fabric that looked the most natural.
Tumblr media
The first layer of fabric paint on the shoes. I really didn't know how to create a rusty look, so this was a lotta trial and error.
Tumblr media
First layer of fabric paint on the dress. This wasn't nearly dark enough, so I had to do several more layers. To make it look as realistic as possible, I also made sure to paint darker shades into areas where things rust/get dirty in real life, such as the area around the buttons, the seams in the dress, etc. I did the same thing with the shoes and hat, too.
Tumblr media
Painting the nurse hat.
Tumblr media
To create a realistic, 3D rust effect, I sprinkled ground cinnamon on the fabric and let it dry, then painted over it with watered down paint to seal it in.
Tumblr media
Since the cinnamon worked so well on the hat, I worked it into the shoes, too.
Tumblr media
Painting the tights. This also required a few layers to get them dark enough. They were kinda disgusting to work with, but that's okay. It's a disgusting costume, after all.
Tumblr media
For the mask, I created a plaster cast of my own face using plaster wrap. This was extremely difficult, and I was constantly worried the entire thing was going to collapse and fall apart. I had to wrap a plastic bag around my head (don't try that at home, kids), cut out where my eyes and mouth were, then wrapped the wet plaster bandages around my face while leaving the thinnest layer around my eyes and mouth so I'd be able to see and breathe okay-ish through the mask.
Tumblr media
I painted the mask and then did a test run of the entire costume without body paint. I wasn't happy with how the mask looked, however, so I knew I had to repaint it. I also had to go back in and use acrylic paints on stubborn parts of the dress, such as the buttons.
Tumblr media
Repainting the mask. This time around, I added a lot more red and ground cinnamon, especially around the edges, to make the mask as creepy and gross as possible. It was really hard making sure there was absolutely no white plaster showing anywhere on the mask, even in the tiniest crevices.
Tumblr media
The cheapest crowbar I could find was also a really hideous shade of blue, so I spray painted it black myself.
Tumblr media
Did a makeup test run to try and match the colors as close to the costume as possible. Also tested out a little bit of fake blood, but I wanted to use it sparingly, since I was going for a Silent Hill 2 nurse, specifically, which is more about dirt and rust than blood.
Tumblr media
Applying the body paint. The entire process took almost two hours.
Tumblr media
Aaaand done! The final step is to stumble around a lot in order to make sure you can see through the mask, and that the mask stays on. I'd consider this cosplay a huge success!
Tumblr media
Make sure your Silent Hill nurse walk is as creepy as possible! I thought the nurses in Silent Hill 2 moved a lot like wind up toys, so I tried to channel that energy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed! Doing a Silent Hill nurse cosplay has been a dream of mine for a long time, and I’m so happy I finally made it happen!

Do you have any tips on for people starting a comic and wanting to post to tumblr? Like pacing ect. Or well any experience you’ve had with your comics? Love your content as well ❤️
If it’s simply for fun, and you’re just trying to gain experience, my biggest advice would be to just START. Don’t worry about it looking perfect. Don’t worry about comparing it to other’s comics. Just try something, and if you find it’s not working, you can always change things up. I have gone through several styles and page layouts since starting. Do I wish those first pages of EW looked just like what I’m doing now? Yes, but if I’d waited around for perfection I would have never started. And I wouldn’t have had nearly as much fun creating it! If people like it, that’s great, but your art is for you. If you’re growing and learning and having fun, then you’ve accomplished something!
Now for some less preachy advice 😂…
—If your comic is gonna be hosted on Tumblr specifically, I would say, make sure you keep the 10 image limit in the back of your mind when you’re pacing things. That can definitely cause some headaches down the line. If you don’t plan ahead, and end up hitting it, you’ll have a sudden cut in your flow. This last update I knew it was gonna be long, so while I did plan, but I could’ve planned better.
—Variety is key!!!!!
Composition changes keep your viewers from getting bored. Sometimes I’ll find myself falling back into the bad habit of just doing the simple back and forth with two characters talking straight on, but changing the camera angle, making establishing shots when you change locations, and over the shoulder shots, etc etc…All these will make for a more interesting viewing. You may think a character needs to be in every single panel to make it interesting, but if you have a lot of dialogue, a simple plain shot—either in top of a solid background, or just over something boring, like a glance at the set, etc—this will let people focus on the words rather than splitting their focus.
Variety applies to shading as well—whether you’re using color or black/white. Variety in values are SO important for comics. You’re shoving a ton of information in a limited space, so try to keep your values different for items that are close together….it can make things very confusing and turn your line work into indistinguishable blobs if you shade without this in mind.
(Using this panel as an example….)
The top two panels have a variety of darker values and a halftone background—so the next two with Venus, I kept rather simple. I could’ve colored the buildings behind her, but then, she might’ve gotten lost amidst all the grey. There’s not really any trick or solid rule to this, but once you develop your creative eye, you’ll make these choices without even thinking about it.
Tumblr media
A few links to helpful tools (they’re all procreate centered I’m afraid 😅)
Outline brush — a free tutorial for Procreate users. This brush kinda mimics the CPS feature that lets you create panels with a nice black outline. I used this brush very often, and it really gives your panels a professional look. Fair warning, it can be glitchy, but it’s free…
Manero Comic Bubbles and sfx — These brushes are not free, so I would recommend maybe getting in your groove before you try them out. They’re by no means necessary, but I’ve just started using them, and they save me so much time. There’s a HUGE selection of shapes, and they go on with a solid white background, so you don’t have to worry about coloring around your dialogue balloons.

headcanons for the characters from Bodies going out on halloween except they're all in modern times
Shahara, Iris, Karl, Alfred, and Henry all go along to take Esther and Jawad out trick-or-treating mostly just so Shahara can show them all what Halloween is
Alfred is very happy to be able to wear his whole Victorian suit gettup without being stared at weird (he feels naked in just one layer of clothes)
Him and Henry go as Sherlock and Watson
Henry takes his old-timey camera partially as a prop, partially to take photos of everyone
He loves seeing all the costume, while he's developing them he tells Alfred something about the costumes people choose to dress up as being reflections of their inner selves finally brought out
Esther becomes obsessed with being able to get the most candy possible
She forces Karl to wear a matching costume in hopes it'll get people to give them more
Karl has to stop her from swiping more candy from little kids passing by
She hasn't seen this much candy since the rationing started
Iris isn't as into all the halloween decorating and stuff but she decides it would be fun to dress up like Defoe's body (except clothed of course) so she watched a bunch of sfx makeup tutorials to make it look like her eye was shot out
whenever anyone asks her about her costume she tells them the full ghost story of no exit hole, no bullet found, no one heard a gun go off, "some say the body will keep appearing until his murderer has been brought to justice"
She tells some of the little kids "do you want to know a secret... I shot him"
Shahara always has to calm to the kid down after that but Iris keeps on doing it
Shahara is exhausted by the end of the night taking care of the whole group
Karl lets her go to bed early and babysits Jawad
When Jawad gets upset about how much more candy Esther got than him Karl forces her to share some but it turns into a big argument
"there's not rationing anymore, we can get you more treats later" "but I earned this fair and square"
eventually he gets her to give Jawad some but she steals it back in the middle of the night

Devlog #120
Hi-ho, Wudge here. Early devlog...!
Tumblr media
This week I drew a blush just for Warden and nobody else. There are two very specific ways to see it, and only in this office location. So... good luck!
Tumblr media
I playtested the game enough to get allllllll 26 achievements. I actually... had to reference my own walkthrough to get one of them. ;;; But I was able to do it!!
I also had a small.. incident where Griffin promised he'd talk to everyone to help fix their negative opinions of me (aka, reset the approval points to a more neutral zone after I thoroughly antagonized everybody).... and then he didn't. It's fixed now ;;;;;; But woo that would have been an awful lil mistake hahaha.
I finished the 'updating ur mc pfp' tutorial - seems to be intuitive and working seamlessly enough!
I converted converted alllll the pngs into webps, and converted alllllllllll the mp3s and wavs into oggs...
...and deleted all unnecessary files and notes from the development process. This is usually the stage where I'll end up breaking something from accidentally nuking an important file... but so far so good.
I put in a cute, special lil sfx for the reward you get after the credits.
Finish designing and coding my SECRET NG+ screen, and wrote a personalized dev note to put in it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And - we've finally updated Mr Whidden! Wahoo!!!! Remnantation did an amazing job as always!
I thought about putting in some animated smoke coming out of his cannon arm but I had to tell myself No... No Wudge....stop.. ......I did add a lil ember and smoke at the very edge of the gun but THATS IT I restrained myself there and did not animate!!!
So, what else is left?
Thanks I'm glad you asked.
Test my email subscription service to see how much I can customize those emails.
Film and upload the Griffin CG video.
Finish and import a few final pieces of in-game art (1 bird sprite, 1 background, some food art).
Review some sound effects in a final, final dev playtest.
Schedule out some social media release posts; wherein I might do like, a week of counting down until the game's release.
Finish updating my itch page (adding the final few lil graphics, putting up the new Content Warning, linking to the new video, then finally, uploading the game files and walkthrough).
Decide how I'm gonna update my pinned post. I should save a link to the old one bc most of its information should be quite relevant, but I'll want a temporary, shorter pinned post for new players who aren't familiar with this blog and are looking to troubleshoot or say hi or something.. Should still have fun attention-grabbing gifs and stuff from the itch page though. <_<
.... So yeah, mostly like - social media promo stuff. That should be it. Fingies crossed. Whew.
By the way?
Tumblr media
Super Demo comes out December 2nd. Mark your calendars <3
Stay safe and keep warm,
Wudge.
