Anyone else find it simultaneously HILARIOUS and also extremely heartwarming, the circumstances under which Sevro married... rich. Like RICH rich.
Not even well-to-do, highly privileged "she can afford to support me and any kids we may decide to have without me having to work for the rest of my life 🥹🙏" rich.
Like, "this woman is the heir to a capitalist empire that, directly or indirectly, owns something like 80%* of ALL gross product found and created on Mars."
We're talking the kind of match a primo gold digger or trophy husband would DIE to make.
And Sevro... literally could not give two shits about the money. Doesn't give a fuck about the wealth he married into.
Motherfucker likes scaring people and being gross and hiding inside dead animals to surprise attack his foes... dude is A) unhinged, B) feral, C) couldn't give less of a shit about accruing power for himself, and D) has no desire for any form of general social acceptance.
Like, obviously, and especially after his daughters were born, the money meant more to him bc it was a means to keep his children safe and give them the best life they could possibly have.
But before his girls were born? When he married Victra? Mid-war, after nearly fucking killing himself to prove a point and unite an army? He did that solely and purely bc he loved her.
And like... that absolutely fucks, my dude.
Goddamn, I love my son.
*I made that number up. Idk how much of Mars the Julii own and control as opposed to how much Quicksilver does. I'm just trying to make a point here. This is out of a fictional sci-fi novel, I don't feel bad presenting what may be inaccurate statistics. Bite me.

I finally finished Light Bringer. Here's my thoughts (obviously, spoilers incoming):
-First and formost, RIP to the king of my heart, Cassius Bellona. The worst part about his death is that you know it's coming the whole book. You don't take a character like him, a former enemy, give him a solid redemption arc, make him the most ABSURDLY likeable character and source of all humor in the book, and then not kill him off. But still, I held out a tiny bit of hope. I really dreaded getting to the end of this book just because I knew it would be coming. But, you had to respect the way he went out at least. Dude's gonna be legend if that counts for anything.
-So, The Abomination was WORRYINGLY absent from this book, aside from a couple of mentions and that (maybe) he's Virginia's mysterious source of intel? Like, everyone is worried about how Atalantia is sitting around building up her power while everyone else is duking it out, but what about the Abomination? I know he's not anybody's most immediate threat in this book, but is anybody else extremely worried about what he's going to get up to in Red God?
-I was happy with the Virginia chapters we did get, but I hope she gets more time in Red God. Also, same to Victra. She was awesome in this book, as always, but like, I want to see you do even more destroying, girl. We love you. I also missed Electra.
-The Bromance in this book was next level, even by the standards previously set in this series. I loved having a little break from the relentless battles and death in Dark Age, to just get the dudes (and Lyria) hanging out and trying to work out their differences. This also helped get back some of the old humor I missed from earlier in the series.
-This was Lyria at her best in my opinion. She was great. I only wish we got to see more Lyria and Cassius because they were just so heart warming.
-Sevro is back! I loved getting to see the old Sevro make his triumphant return for the last third of the book or so. Sevro walking up to Gaia au Raa and just going, "shut up, crone," really made my day.
-Lysander has killed my favorite character of the book two books in a row now. And both times with a gun. I love how this dude talks about how he's secretly really good with a razor, but every time he's confronted with someone who's actually good at using one he just shoots them point blank. I know I've said this before, but seriously guys, fuck Lysander. I mean, even Atalantia is becoming more likeable than him. She may be an evil, power hungry tyrant, but at least she's pretty much honest about it. Everyone knows she's the worst and she barely bothers to pretend otherwise.
-Admittedly, it's been a few years since I've read the other books in the series, but this might be my favorite of the bunch. Pierce Brown really hit every emotional note and character perfectly in this one, and it felt a lot more balanced compared to the (necessary) bleakness of Dark Age.

I know you’re on the red rising subreddit and I have to say your mental strength is immense, I scrolled through there for like 10 minutes and the sheer amount of brain dead takes is astounding. People thinking Lyria is pregnant with Cassius’s baby?!? Somebody said darrow didn’t have any development in LB? Saw someone else say sevro wasn’t affected by Ulysses’s death? Genuinely what book did these people read cause it wasn’t the one I read lol
Firstly, thank you for complementing my mental strength even though my reading of the red rising subreddit is mostly due to a huuuge Red Rising addiction lol. I just like seeing lots of people talk about the books (even though the bad outweighs the good sometimes.)
No, but seriously, these takes are so questionable that I wonder if the Light Bringer copy, I got was wrong because there's just no way. When I saw that multiple different people made posts about Lyria being pregnant, I was shocked and appalled. Even if that was the dynamic of her and Cassius' relationship (which it wasn't) that literally wouldn't work DNA wise within the Red Rising universe.
"Somebody said Darrow didn’t have any development in LB" Basically the whole book centered around character development. I am failing to comprehend how their line of thinking brough them here. Once again, I must have gotten the wrong copy. The talk between Darrow and Sevro in chapter 48 tells you so much about Servo's grief and the way it changed his way of thinking completely.
Every once in a while, there's a good take but in conclusion, reddit sucks most times sometimes. But I bare it somehow...for some reason.

Spoilers for Red Rising Saga #5 : Dark Age
I just finished reading Dark Age and wow it was amazing. I liked it way better than Iron Gold (which was still really good) so here some random thoughts :
- Ephraim really had the best chapters. I already liked him before but with that volume he became one of my favorite character in the series and then... 💀 I really wasn't expecting that lmao
- Same for Victra and Lyria, I liked them before but now I absolutely loved them. Let's just wish that they don't meet the same fate as the one mentioned above.
- It was really nice to see that Olga that much and it's quite a pity to see so little of Sevro
-Victra/Lyria/Olga and Ephraim/Pax/Electra were the duos I didn't know I needed
- The tension that whole volume was no joke... especially in the war chapters
-It was an amazing surprise to have Virginia's POV. I wonder if there's also a new POV in Light Bringer ?
- Poor Darrow was already messed-up enough, he definitely didn't need all he get in that volume 💀
- I've seen that everybody hate Lysander sooo much after Light Bringer, I wonder what has he done ??? (Actually I get spoiled so I already have an answer for that 🏃🏾♀️)
- I was expecting to see Cassius alive, so I wasn't that much suprised but it is nice to know that we'll see him again
- I was also sure that something was going to happen to Ulysses but no that it was going to be that violent 😨
- Lyria's chapters came quite late but omg the wait was worthy because they were absolute fire
So far I've read all the Red Rising books in French and I want to continue on this path but there's still no news of a Light Bringer translation. I don't how much time I'll be able to wait but I do know it won't be long

"Be proud, motherfucker!" - Modern!AU Sevro&Victra
Summary: just Sevro and Victra meeting each other at a pride parade.
Word count: 497
Another onsehot about Red Rising characters in modern-days. The first one was about Reaperstang. Hope you like it! And feel free to share your comments in my askbox ♡ Happy Pride Month 🏳️🌈
They were welcomed by the colourful crowd singing a Madonna song that Victra hated. Cassius convinced her to come after knowing of a fight between her and her sister Antonia. She wasn't the type who likes parades, but his persuasion had worked. She wore a t-shirt saying I put the BI on BITCH. Cassius was shirtless, obviously, with a bisexual flag tangled on his neck.
Cassius flirted with everyone who passed by them, but Victra was just walking by like she was a goddess among mortals. Unlike her friend, she didn't share smiles with everybody, but once she had found someone who picked her interest, there was no mercy.
An exalted conversation captured her attention and with a good look around she could see better. A couple was sitted on a sidewalk. One of the girls were as tall as Victra herself, with a wild white hair falling down her back. The other were much smaller with red hair making a beautiful combination with her dark skin and seemed about to cry while listened a guy in front of her who gesticulated a lot. Victra searched for Cassius, but he had found a group of stiletto dancers and joined their Born This Way choreography. Where did he found the high heels, she'll never know.
"What happened?" she asked the tall girl, the only one who noticed her approach.
"Just a few people saying shit to us." she sighed. "Always happens."
Victra put a hand on the girl's shoulder and focused on the guy's words. He was small too, hair painted with the colours of the trans flag.
"You shouldn't let a bunch of a-holes bother you, and not be ashamed of holding hands!" his tone was rasp but his eyes were soft. "C'mon! This is a Pride Parade! If we don't feel free here, where else should we?" he grabbed the smaller girl by her collar. "Be proud, motherfucker!"
He catched Victra's laugh when he turn around. Blush took his cheeks.
"What's up?" he raised his eyebrows. "D'you got something against the things that I've said?"
"Easy!" she lifted her hands up. "I'm laughing 'cause I like your vibe, shorty."
"Yeah, I'll show you what's short..." he gave her his middle finger.
"Oooh.." her eyes glowed. "Is that a promise?"
He blushed a little more when she winked at him.
"Women don't usually like small men." his words were cautious.
"Well, that's because they're dumb." she grabbed his thin. "I assure you, baby, that I'm one of a kind."
"And I'm Sevro." he frowns. "Fuck! It wasn't what I meant to say! I just-"
"You're nervous, I know." she approached and whispered in his ear. "Why don't we just get the hell out of here and go somewhere I could make you relax, sweetheart?"
He cleared his throat and turned to the couple behind him.
"So, Lyria and Volga, really nice to meet you, but I gotta go, okay?" he flirted with her this time. "I'm gonna give this girl a reason to be proud."

Golden Son tier list + review! :D
These books are so fucking good, I want to continue with book 3 already. I have never read books this quickly, but DAMN that was good. You can see my live thoughts while I was reading from the tag "#sam flynn reads red rising", but here are my post reading thoughts below the cut.
Characters: 9/10, everyone served their purpose well and was great except for Antonia, who SOMEHOW still disappointed me.
Plot: 9/10, I have no clue if there was anything for me to complain about.
Personal Enjoyment: 10/10, I was unfortunately spoiled to 2 events within the book before I started reading, but I had so much fun regardless. I wish I had come in 100% blind :(
I have NO CLUE where to start. I guess I'll start with Fitchner. His identity as the founder of Ares was no secret to me when I came into the book, I strayed too far and accidentally got myself spoiled. Despite that, the reveal was still fucking brilliant. I'm surprised by how far he shot up in my tier list, from close to the bottom to being top 5. Wish he didn't die though 😭
Another character that shot pretty dramatically up the tier list was the Jackal. I knew he was gonna betray Darrow from the start based on intuition (thankfully not from spoilers) but DAMN HE DIDNT HAVE TO DO ALL THAT 😭 He's so sociopathic, I love that. I am no longer disappointed by him, and are excited to see what this little fucker has in store next! (Unlike with Antonia. Maybe I hyped myself up too highly for her, I expected her to play a larger role in everything but she feels so much like a pawn, it's embarrassing. She is my unironic least favorite character because of how plain disappointed I am in her, and it's not a fun hatred, it's a "oh she is here again. will she do anythin- nope. okay.")
Roque. Sweet Roque. I thought you were eh in the first book, just a cool voice for darrow to talk to I guess. But after the ending, fuck you 😍 I got spoiled by his betrayal, but honestly I saw his betrayal coming when Darrow kept being unable to reconcile with him. Either that or Roque dies, but uhhhhh I got spoiled anyways so it was going to be the latter. yeah I wish he had died instead of this! 🥰 but honestly and to be fair, yeah Darrow kind of deserved some of it for being such an ass of a friend, but:
Cassius went down the tier list because the gala fight was AMAZING but he doesn't show up after that again until the end, and that made me feel sort of hesitant? BUT HE IS CLEARLY STILL BEING SET UP FOR THE FUTURE SO HE BETTER NOT PULL AN ANTONIA AND DO NOTHING BUT BE A PAWN.
Sevro is half red, cool! I am so glad he's still such a lovable scamp. I got excited every time he showed up, I love him.
Darrow is still an amazing protagonist, and I am so glad we are past his angsty "I miss my wife" phase, but I can guarantee I will see more of it after the ending. At least I will be mentally prepared for the whump this time.
Mustang is at her prime here. The scene with her in Lykos was so... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH i fucking hope she returns for darrow because these two are awesome and they deserve all the happiness.
Oh yeah, the scene where they revisit Lykos? As I said in a previous post, it watered my crops and cleansed my skin. I am so glad we finally got to catch up with Darrow's family. AND HE GOT TO HUG HIS MOM AAAAAAAAAA- I hoped we would see Darrow talk with the rest of his family, but just everything about this was comfort enough. Rest in peace uncle Narol though. 😥 Even if the meeting with darrow and his mom was cut abruptly short by Kieran's kids, but my heart... 🥹
Ragnar spawns in and just gets to business, and I love him. I love stories where people raised for only one thing learn to break free of their mold (that's why i was so interested in this series in the first place). I think it's so iconic that every time he speaks, the text becomes bold, that instantly endeared me to him somehow.
Victra was good, but her insistence on Darrow was weird. Could be because I'm a hard Darrow × Mustang shipper.
That's all the characters I feel like talking about. Onto other things like the plot! The plot was SO much better than the first book. We're finally out of that fuckass academy and doing actual rebelling finally! I don't know what else to say, the twists and the plots were phenomenal. The fight scenes here are even better than the ones in the first book. Overall, y'all weren't kidding when people said book 1 was the weakest of the series because I am flabberghasted by how good this book is.
I don't know what else to say, all of this has just been rambling. Darrow better break those god damn chains at the end of it all.
